Comment: We had a horrible experience getting shown an apartment by Maureen. She gave us lots of incorrect information about the apartment (including telling us and indicating on the listing that cats are allowed when they actually are not, and didnt correct this until after we had paid the application fee). She talked far more about herself, her vacation home in wine country, and her retirement plans than the apartment itself.She made several racist comments including talking about illegal people and making offensive racist comments about various neighborhoods.She was emotionally volatile the whole time and difficult to talk to. We tried to be upfront and give her our timeline as we had another lease application on the table, and she seemed to be personally offended and threatened to reject our application just because we werent exclusively applying to this place

I had a pretty limited budget and really strict wishes in regards to area and parking, and we were able to find my dream home. He walked me through the whole process, sent out so many apartments and really had my best in his mind. After the walkthrough we heard back from my favorite place and he helped me with application and later lease even outside of his working hours. Comment: I spoke with Barbara regarding a house I was interested in Berkeley hills. As she was explaining the property to me I had a question regarding something she mentioned and she raised her voice and started with I said!! As if she was frustrated she had to repeat herself. If I have question and I am an interested party; who should I go to to get my questions answered from someone who is going to display courtesy and professionalism??? Is that you?????She raised her voice as if the property was free, im her child and she is doing a favor for me. On the contrary the property is not ready and In Need of repair and its been sitting on the websites for quite sometime. I drove by it and there is a tarp at roof level waving in the breeze. The bathroom needs a heavy cleaning the grout is jet black the kitchen has no top cabinets. I have never seen that before coming here. That’s an incomplete kitchen. On top of that she tells me that there will be another creep living on the property with my family in a separate building while I’m at work. For that price I have a creep on property. lady tells me the property needs repair so its not ready to rent and has me questions why its even posted and Im here saying lets negotiate. She tells me Nice backyard but it’s wouldn’t be mine because it belongs to the deer and they don’t want them disturbed. What if I want to have a family barbecue? Do the deers pay rent? If I were in that profession and a property was sitting and I have a party willing to negotiate and make a deal I would not act unprofessional because I had to repeat an answer to a question that makes no sense but it does make sense now why that property is sitting because interested parties have to make that call to speak to her and shes rude. Gustavo Lopez agent texts me saying contact him with any questions. After speaking with her I text him questions and he didn’t even attempt to answer any of them he said I will inquire with Barbara regarding my questions and left it at that. Why do you say contact you with questions only to not attempt to answer any of them. So he told me he is going to ask Barbara why HE sent a text asking me to contact him with any questions. (WOW)

Comment: TLDR: They canceled my lease, which was signed by all parties, prior to move in. I have taken this issue to the tenants union and talked to lawyers. This is ILLEGAL.First of all, this company has places listed way over market that they let sit empty for months before finally dropping the rent to reasonable levels. When people do this, it makes apartment hunting very frustrating and inefficient. Luckily the rent for the apartment I wanted finally dropped right before I needed to move.However, my agent, Jules, was completely incompetent. I submitted my application on Friday, January 4. I was in a hurry because I needed to be out of my apartment on January 6 and hotels were going to be 750+ that night due to a conference. She told me I would be receiving a lease by Sunday, January 6. But my father needed to sign it first because he would be co-signing. She told me she sent it on Monday morning at 8 am. But he did not receive it. I was calling her all day trying to figure out what was going on. She finally sent it to him at 6:30 pm Monday night, at which point he signed it immediately. I didn’t get my lease until Tuesday at 2:30 pm, by which time I was sleep deprived, sick, and in Monterey, as I had to leave the city for a place to stay.I had questions about my lease that I needed answered before signing, which I told Jules. I followed up multiple times. And she kept just saying the owner hadn’t answered her yet and that they were showing the unit to others because I was being “flaky.” Flaky? No. I was being careful. I wanted to make sure I understood the terms of the contract I was signing. I didn’t get an answer until Wednesday at 8:30 pm, at which point I signed immediately.No deadline for submitting my rent and deposit was ever given to me. I said I could drop off my cashiers check when I got back. But I stayed in Monterey to see Big Sur. At first, Jules had told me I could just send a wire, so I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I thought I had a binding, executed contract.I thought wrong. On Saturday morning when I wanted to drop off my check, I was informed they had given the apartment to someone else. According to my lease as written, I was never in breach of contract and this is illegal.As a result, I am homeless. I am talking to lawyers about what I can do, but they tell me all I can do is sue for damages. In order for there to be damages, I would have to rent a more expensive apartment and be able to demonstrate that I somehow had to do that. I don’t know how this would possibly work.

I recommend having AMSI manage your property in San Francisco, especially if youre subject to a No rentals less than 30 days stipulation from your homeowners agency. Having a minimum stay length of 30 days also puts your neighbors more at ease.
