American Red Cross Blood Donation Center in other cities:
Staff was very rude. Woman at the desk couldnt find my name, I had to point it out to her. Sat in the waiting room for an hour past my appointment time before the took me into the room to ask the questions. When I finally got to a bed I realized it took so long because the staff was spending so much time chatting and complaining. I warned them that my veins were always difficult to find but I had 85 oz of water in the last 24 hours. As soon as they started feeling for a vein they immediately started lecturing me about not hydrating enough. They nurse them said screw it, jabbed me with the needle and said theres nothing she can do when I dont hydrate, left the needle in, went to go chat with another nurse, came back and pulled the needle out, and went back to talk to another nurse before giving me a bandage and asking me to leave.
Good staff, nice volunteers. Must make an appointment, but even if you do you should plan on at least 45 minutes before they even do the pre-screening questionnaire, as the RNs there seem to treat this activity as a secondary priority. Its too bad because the pre-screening should be done by a dedicated person who is not an RN, which would make the process more efficient. The donation time itself goes quickly, but unfortunately because of the lengthy wait for pre-screening, the total experience time there is at least 1.5 - 2 hours, although it should take no more than 1 hour.
Made an appointment online this morning before I came here. Was excited to donate blood as I heard on the radio saying their inventory was short. Got here on time and signed in. Waiting for 45 mins and a staff came to me said they dont have my name on the appointment sheet and they are not going to take my blood today....really? I made an appointment. I even have a screenshot saved for the confirmation. And it took them that long to let me know I am not on the list? And the staff there was not so nice. Wasted my 30 mins drive here and 45 mins wait. I probably will try another place next time.Just read another review about this place and saw that they said staff was rude. Should have read that before coming here. Disappointed and very and experience. Wont come here again.
I made an appointment to donate blood but they couldnt find it in the books, so I sat in the lobby for an hour before a rude woman took me in a room for questions. I ended up walking out because of the way this woman was talking to me. Disorganized and not personable.
Had an appt, they said I wasn’t on the list (after I checked in and waited 20 minutes with no one talking to me). Finally asked someone and they said they could still get me in. However it’s an hour past my appt time and I’m still not in the chair. No one has come to give me an ETA. This is not a good way to keep donors.

2022-06-04The second time I donated platelets was totally unlike the first time, and it will be the last. Not once did anyone check on me the entire two hours and eleven minutes I was there. While theyre avoiding making eye contact with you, theyre yelling to each other louder than your headphones. Very uncomfortable experience.

2022-01-07Check in process took way too long, went to do power red donation. Apparently the worker didnt hook up the machine correctly so after being there 90 minutes i was told my donation wasnt usable. Have a nice day

2019-07-03My first time donating at this location and it was a wonderful experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and truly do show gratitude to you for taking the time to donate. Makes you feel the need for donations and thank you for being there. I had scheduled an appointment for a Saturday and it was not extremely busy. I waited maybe five minutes and then we were off.

2020-02-27Ive been coming to this location for almost three years to donate whole blood and platelets, I visit about 15-20 times a year. The staff has always been extremely welcoming and happy to see people filling the chairs. Id like to think Im easy-going, but sometimes my veins are not, but Ive only had one truly disappointing experience, the rest have been wonderful!

2017-01-12Last week was the third and final time I attempted a donation at the Red Cross facility in Livonia. My wife and I have been long term donors and used the mobile app to schedule our appointment. Three times weve been rescheduled because after taking time from our day and showing up(on time) for appointment, we were informed the wait would be over an hour. The staff responsible for scheduling DONORS needs to have their capability carefully reviewed before being dismissed. Is this the way Red Cross wants to treat people who offer their time and a part of themselves? I cant tell you how bad I feel that they treat people this way.We will continue to give blood because we recognize the value it brings to people in need and because it makes us feel gratified to give of ourselves. We will not ever schedule an appointment at the Red Cross facility in Livonia.

2016-03-27Great staff all around. My first time donating platelets so I didnt know what to expect. I had some complications and the experienced nurses handled it like pros. They also did a great job keeping me comfortable through the whole process. Ive donated blood before at an on site location for a blood drive. Being able to do it at a dedicated facility was a much better experience. I wish I remembered the nice ladys name that took care of me. Hats off to her, thanks!

2019-07-05I had a great experience. The nurses were very friendly and competent. Even though I was running late they were very accommodating. The whole plasma donating process took no more than an hour and it was quite painless. I would definitely come back again.

2019-05-23I couldn’t find a blood drive near me that worked with my schedule, so I gave this donor center a try. I had a wonderful experience. All staff were friendly- front desk, nurses, and the volunteers at the table afterwords. I will definitely go back.

2017-06-29I have been donating blood religiously for 30 years. My experience with the Red Cross is the thing they do best is pester and guilt me into making an appointment. They also do a good job once Im in the donor chair. Everything in between is pathetic. Those stupid booklets are a 100% waste of my time, then they abuse my time further by making me wait 30-45 minute more to get in the donor chair. It seems the only purpose of an appointment is to get the donor to show-up, because history proves it in no way means a reservation. Heck, even the Michigan Secretary of State (not exactly known for exceptional service) has put in a system that allows its customers to get in a virtual line. That said, my 2017 commitment was to give blood regularly, but only if they respect my time and have me in the donor chair within 15 minutes of my appointment. After six appointments this year, I still havent given blood.Red Cross: if you want people like me to keep giving blood, get this fixed.
