I highly recommend this vet. We have never had to use an emergency pet hospital and was a little nervous. So thankful for this new place being so close. They were so helpful and gave our little dog great care. They were very easy to work with on a cost effective treatment plan.
My dog Ivy had became very ill on a Saturday and by Saturday night was so lethargic I didnt think I could wait until Monday when my vets office opened. I was dreading trying to find a place to take her, and was surprised to find this new animal hospital so close to my home. I was very impressed with the online registration, so I did not have to sit there with a sick dog for hours waiting to be seen, they just texted me when they were ready for me to come. The doctors and staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. They would call or text me with updates and phots of how she was doing. I also could text anytime I wanted an update. I truly believe they saved my dogs life and will be forever grateful to them. The cost was higher than seeing my regular vet, but that was to be expected and was actually less than I thought it was going to be. I cant recommend this place enough!
We unfortunately had to bring our dog, Dierks, to the emergency room earlier this week and it didn’t end how we hoped it would. The staff there was so kind, especially Dr R, Kali, Rose, and the nurse who came in and told us she had been cuddling with our boy and wanted to give him one more kiss before he left this earth. They were very compassionate, his nurse even went above and beyond giving us a few paw prints and nose prints as well. I worked at MSU’s vet ICU/ER so I know how hard it is to be working in that setting and also have the short staff every vet clinic has been dealing with, so I really appreciate them taking the time to let us process everything and go over every option with us. While we are still heartbroken we are grateful that our boy had excellent care in his last hours. Thank you all so much.
The staff at AEH work tirelessly to provide excellent and compassionate care to any pet that comes through their doors. They are the only 24/7 emergency animal hospital in West Michigan as of right now so please have some respect and patience.Trust that they are professionals and are doing the absolute best they can do amid staff shortages and a mental health crisis in veterinary medicine nation wide.
Wonderful service and fair pricing! I am so happy to have an emergency vet in the SE area. Out first visit was needed because my absolutely dumb af lab ate a dish towel.... They were quick and proper to help. Online check in is VERY well coordinated, I was able to check in at home and they let me know when they were ready for her! Thank you Vet team!!
Staff is kind and patient. Know if you travel a distance and need to wait, that wait is around 8 hours easily. My pet was there 6 1/2 hours before he was examined because he wasnt dying, they told me. No one gave me any updates. I finally called after 3-4 hours to find out the vet hadnt examined him yet. Once he was finally examined and treated, then I had to wait another hour for the paperwork. So, a simple ear infection took my whole day, since it was too far to run home, and cost $620. As a healthcare professional, Ive never been in a human ER that long for much more serious issues. The care they gave was through but I will look for other options for non-lifethreatening issues when my vet is booked.
Tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because they claimed to be busy but waiting 4 hours for any sort of information as to what was going on involving my puppy’s incident is a bit ridiculous. Needless to say they seemed like they didn’t know what they were talking about and we ended up walking out of their office with no clear answers as to what was truly wrong with our puppy. We brought our puppy into our regular vet the following Monday and sure enough there was an obvious fracture in his leg. How did they miss that? Anyways, not a great experience.
My husband opened the door to let our dog in & noticed a beautiful Pomeranian sitting on the other side of the fence. He scooped him up & brought him into our yard. We discovered he was limping pretty bad & it was almost 11PM, so we opted to take him here to scan for a chip. We didn’t call prior, only when we were outside the door. Someone came out to scan him, nothing & invited us in. We explained that we didn’t want the pup to be in pain, couldn’t bring it in due to our cat and dog (it would’ve made for a chaotic night), and didn’t want to leave him in our yard. The vet advised they could take him in on a hold and make sure he’s taken care of for the time being. If nobody comes forward during the hold, they have a contract with a shelter (can’t remember which one) that would take him in. We just filled out a form explaining where he was found & our contact info (we requested to know if he was going to be sent to the shelter if that time came). Luckily I had posted on Kent County Lost/Found pets and the owner reunited with their sweet pup the next morning!
We were visiting from out of state when our dog received a serious bite from another dog. The staff and vets were incredibly kind and professional and our dog received excellent care. We also received a recommendation for where to get follow up care when we continue our travels up north.
We brought our pug here yesterday with an injured dew claw and were amazed with this hospital. We were very nervous of dealing with an unfamiliar emergency hospital but they answered all of our questions without seeming annoyed, and they were very up front about price from the very beginning. Emergency visits are always understandably pricey but we found the price to be very fair and the vet even made the choice not to fully sedate our dog since she was calm enough which we were incredibly thankful for since she is a pug and at higher risk of complications, and it also saved us quite a bit of money at the end. I had so many questions about the procedure but by the end of the phone call with Dr. Brink I didnt even have to ask because she answered them all and was very kind which definitely eased our minds. Overall great experience, fair pricing, kind staff, and Dr. Brink was amazing. Will definitely be back with any emergency needs!
Had to bring our cat in to be seen. I believe he had good care, but how would I truly know because they dont allow you in the exam room. This was an all day event. We started the check in process at home at around 11:30am online and they called us to bring him in around 4:30pm. We didnt get out of there closer to 730pm. Whole day was shot! Finally got home and noticed staff forgot to give us the steroid our cat needed. Now we have to go out again out of our way to get the med. When calling the Hospital, staff seemed to not really show any sort of care or compassion that this was their error. Didnt even seem to care that we were inconvenienced by their error. No apologies were given. Good care is great, but customer service makes the overall experience and Im sorry, we just didnt receive that.
The circumstances leading up to having to use an emergency vet are stressful by nature. Dr. Gerbers and the office team made this experience as smooth as possible. From the online checkin system telling you the wait times, to the thorough treatment of my super scared not so vet friendly dog, to the open communication throughout the process. I could tell they sincerely cared. Hopefully we have the best outcome with this initial treatment but at least we have a diagnosis, treated his pain and have steps to wellness. Thank you again!
I cant thank the kind caring staff of Animal Emergency enough for the way they handled the care of my Shi Tzu Jax and I . We dont live in the area and it became apparent it was time for him to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Was referred to these amazing people and they made a incredibly tough time bearable. Highly recommend this amazing crew!
Super nice place just not very welcoming. Had my bill slapped on the table before i even walked in. wanted almost $400 upfront to look at a possible ear infection. i understand policies are policies but maybe go about it in a different way. Customer service wasn’t that great, since i wasn’t able to pay bill i asked if there was anything we could give him over the counter for pain and i didn’t really get any answer and they didn’t really seem like they wanted to help once they figured out i wasn’t able to pay. the workers whole attitude towards us after we couldn’t pay completely changed. can’t say much on the care they provide but their customer service wasn’t up to par.
Byron Center Hospital graciously kept our Nala after she passed until the next day and did all the corresponding and arrangements with Sleepy Hallow. The facility was very clean and the staff was very friendly. They were quick and made the process easy. Probably the most heartfelt thing was we received a sympathy card about a week later saying sorry for your loss and they also provided a cute heart with wildflower seeds that we could plant in memory of our pet.
Staff was extremely helpful, and friendly! They were extremely thorough and were quick to look at my dog, very satisfied would highly recommend. Glad to have a great facility closer to home! Hope you dont have to use them but good to know theyre there and theyre great at what they do!

Never been inside, no need to do so! Ive called twice now. They provide ZERO routine-medical care. No booster shots here! This place is for uppity folks, one can assume! Lots of Audis, BMWs and Lexus vehicles parking there. This place isnt local-community focused whatsoever! Go to Byron Center Animal Hospital or Red Barn Vet Clinic.
They wont see my puppy because of a previous balance that I owe to a different location how are you going to justify a dogs well-being and life over $200 vet bill that I couldnt afford to pay due to COVID this place is an absolute joke I hope they get shut down for animal cruelty this wont be the end of it
Brought my pup here a few months ago after he had a bad reaction to his first heart worm treatment (was a Saturday when our primary vet was closed). Was as descriptive as could be about the situation but was still told they wouldn’t do anything unless they performed a parvo test which was nearly $300. And that I wouldn’t hear back until the next day or day after about results. For being an emergency center, there is literally no urgency. Decided to take my pup home without care and he did recover the next day normally.I understand the contactless situation, but I was not allowed to talk to a vet first hand to explain why and talk more. They make you fill out a lengthy online check-in only for them to seemingly ignore it. As a first time dog owner, it was a scary situation but was absolutely not helped by this place. It’s a shame because this company has the only two 24-hour emergency vet clinics in Grand Rapids. Avoid this place if you want timely care for your animal because you absolutely WILL NOT get it here. They operate on their time (which as a business, it’s their right) but not a great business model when they are supposed to be an “emergency” vet clinic.

2022-03-21There is a new Animal Emergency hospital in Byron Center! This facility has recently opened and features a beautiful new building and an all-female veterinarian staff. They are open 24/7 and offer mobile check in and registration. You can bring your pet in immediately if they are in critical condition, or you may be invited to wait at home and receive notification on when to bring your pet. Updates are given on your pet via phone and text, as they are currently practicing Covid-19 protocols. In this emergency setting, they treat pets based on how urgent the cases are. Average wait time may be 3-4 hours or more, depending on your pet’s treatment and how busy they are.I really liked how I was offered options in the treatment plan for my pet. The prices were also reasonable. All of the staff I met were great. I highly recommend this facility.

2022-03-31These vets at this Byron Center location are true heroes. The work they do here is spectacular! I had to take my cat Charlie here for an emergency visit because he wasnt eating or drinking. We couldnt wait for the weekend to be over as he was so weak so we took him in on a Saturday. When he was diagnosed with his illness we got the proper medication, diagnosis, and instructions on how to nurse him back. He is now making a full recovery and is meowing, eating food, and playing just like his normal self. So thankful for the doctors knowledge and care in these stressful situations. Highly recommended!

2022-05-30Gotta say, the literal spatters of blood left drying for hours in the lobby were a nice decorative touch and really made me feel like my dog was in good hands. The wait times to be seen are ridiculously inaccurate (it’s been about 6 hours longer than what we were told so far) and God help you if your pet is actually having a medical crisis. Go ANYWHERE else—Blue Pearl is a great alternative in the area and they aren’t any more expensive. To add insult to injury, they don’t even say what services you’re paying for on the invoice! Is it normal to not question why you’re going to be $916.28 out of pocket?!

2022-04-11I had a great experience with Animal Emergency and Specialty Hospital of Byron Center after my cat developed an eye infection over the weekend. My vet was fully booked and recommended I take him to an animal hospital immediately but no other hospitals in the area had room to take him in. They were ready for him within a matter of minutes and had him evaluated and treated within a few hours! The staff there was so friendly and did a great job explaining their treatment plan. I could tell they took amazing care of my cat and really care for the animals they treat. Their prices were completely fair and in 48 hours my cat was almost completely healed. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area and they will be on the top of my list if anything comes up again!

2022-04-26My husband and I took our dog into the hospital just a fewnights ago, and although we lost our beautiful Quincy, I cant say enough of the care that he received and the kindness and compassion shown to us by all employees on the Midnight shift. They couldnt have been nicer, and I can highly recommend this facility to anyone with a pet emergency! If I lived closer I would want to have them as our Primary Vet! Thank you so very much for all you did for us!! We were more impressed with your care compared to Blue Pearl. Thank YOU!!!!

2022-05-10This place was amazing. Last night I came home to learn our dog Vincent figured out how to roll down a car window and jumped out of a moving car! We were terrified since he is only 5 months old. We were sure he had broken a paw so I immediately called here, they answered promptly and were very helpful over the phone. It was around midnight as I work 2nd shift and they took him in. I was immediately comforted by the treatment I overheard them giving him in the back room. They told us to leave him there and go home while they examined him as well as giving us a price upfront. We were a bit nervous to leave him but was ultimately a good choice as we hadn’t even eaten yet and it took a few hours. The price was so much better than I was expecting which was also a comfort to my wallet. We couldn’t sleep and around 3am the doctor called us, surprisingly enough there was no fracture that could be seen! We were ecstatic and they gave us the option to pick him up then or get some rest and pick him up in the morning which was very considerate on their end:) we chose since we already couldn’t sleep and made the drive to get Vincent. We made the payment and they gave us all the medication we needed for him as well as follow up care if needed. I was very impressed with this place and in any future emergencies this is where we want to go!

2022-03-18Our cat was in a fight or hit by a car, and we took him to this animal hospital. We werent surprised that we had to wait 3 hours to get a call from the vet with a prognosis and run-down from an external examination. However, we were shocked that we had to wait two and half hours before our cat was released to us, even after being told that it was OK to come in and pick him up. TWO-and-a-half HOURS!Even worse, they didnt even clean the wounds. Our cat was still full of mud when we came to pick him up seven hours after dropping him off initially. And even worse, we had to pay $100 for amoxicillin and pain medication, and the pain meds they gave were in pill form! The vet even said that the cat most likely had a broken jaw, and it was obvious that it couldnt close its mouth. Pills?!?! Really? My daughter had picked the cat up, and when I arrived home from work, I saw pills and called back and asked how in the world was the cat supposed to take pills when it couldnt even close its mouth? The response? They knew we were concerned about money, and the liquid form was more expensive. So, the logic is, you dont even give the option of a more expensive form of medication and, instead, assume that the client wont pay, and so its better to give a medication that the cat cant even possibly take? Very bad service.

2022-07-09There is nowhere I would have rather gone when my sweet boy was not doing well. The staff at AESH were amazing - they updated me along the way and showed me so much kindness on what were some very difficult days. I did end up having to euthanize my cat after an overnight hospitalization but it couldnt have been handled any better. I highly recommend this hospital and while I hope to not visit again for a long time, this is the first place I would take my pets in an emergency. Thank you to all the caring staff who helped me along the way - the receptionists, assistants, techs, and doctors who helped me when I needed it most.

2022-03-14My family and I are forever grateful for the care and compassion provided to our family. Unfortunately, we did not get the outcome we had been praying for but every staff member was so caring and understanding. We are grieving deeply but know that our dog was so loved and well cared for at end of life and they allowed us to hold her while they provided a peaceful transition. Thank you to everyone that took part in our family members last days and guided us through one of the most difficult times in our life.

2022-06-13So thankful for the team there! Our sweet Evolette was dealing with the not so fun parts of being a bulldog in the summer and we need help asap. The team got her in right away and helped work out a treatment plan so we could get her home. They assisted us to stay within our budget (cause no one ever plans on an emergency) and give Evie the best care possible. Dr. B and the vet techs made themselves available if we needed updates or had follow up questions. We are happy to say Evie is doing so much better and we are beyond grateful for this office. 💚💚💚💚
