Service was unacceptably rude due to no reason on my end. They came in with a huge attitude stank face as if a customer coming in to order is an issue for them. Slammed the cup on the counter. It was awful. Moving onto my drink. Absolutely atrocious, ordered Matcha latte. Received a cup of straight up green foam…. No latte in sight. I wanted it replaced but they were so mean and rude I left. What an absolute WASTE of 5 dollars and my time during my first visit to Ann Arbor. That was my first interaction in this city of the day. Let me tell yall its not a good look. I see im not the only one who experienced terrible service here. I would avoid this place wholeheartedly
What a lovely space! I like my coffee rich and low in acid. Theirs is delicious. They have homemade gluten free bakery items. The light on all the potted plants throws beautiful shadows. I think if you want a peaceful zen experience or a coffee and great conversation, check this place out. ITs original creative and adult like.
Stopped by to visit my granddaughter and wanted a cup of coffee. The staff was really helpful and knowledgeable about thier products. Staff was really helpful and friendly. Probaly one of the best cups of coffees I have had in a while. I also tired the Blueberry muffins and the sauce in the center was a nice touch. Great place to stop for a few minutes and catch up before exploring other things around town. Was also surprised to learn they make almost all the baked goods in house. Over all great experience and product. Excited to see where this place goes! Granddaughter has 3 more years at the university so we shall see and hope to become regular visitors to this shop!
Cool vibes. Good coffee. Friendly staff. One of the workers opened the door to go in the kitchen (?) and the person back there making something was looking like he was enjoying himself while mixing something and vibing to his music. The smell of whatever came out the oven while I was sitting in the back was amazing and made my mouth water!
Coffee was good, but I wish they had hours like Espresso Royals had. This is the perfect late night spot, and was honestly often busier at night than it was during the day sometimes. Espresso Royale was the only downtown coffee shop open late (after 7pm) to cater to students up studying late. I wish Ann Arbor Coffee Roasting Company would capitalize on that open market and stay open late too.
I am sorry to write this review, but as a long-time Espresso Royale customer, I was thoroughly disappointed. After entering, the first thing I noticed was the outrageous prices. Previously, a latte at Espresso Royale was well under $4, now the lowest price for any espresso/milk combination is $5. There were also $2 medium latte Wednesdays which made their coffee very reasonable. Finally, I was looking forward to trying the blueberry white chocolate scone, having been a fan of the previous raspberry white chocolate and dark chocolate cherry scone. The scone was wayyy too sweet, too leavened and left a gross sour aftertaste in my mouth. I forced myself to eat it having paid over $3 for this baked item.As someone who spent many hours in Espresso Royale and was eager to have them back, I can say that without significant changes to AARC, I do not plan to return. However, if they take into consideration customer feedback and make necessary improvements, I might just try again.
Ive been going here often after it opened. The service is okay, coffee is good but dont order any baked goods here. There were like 10 fruit flies flying and crawling on top of the baked goods when I went there to get a scone. You guys should really do something about it. I have been eating there for twice a week and I regret ordering anything there.
Mixed feelings on A2 Coffe Roasting Co.Drinks- The pricing of drinks are on par with a drink you might get at sweetwaters or starbucks, however they do have an interesting variety on their menu. Im not a coffee aficionado by any means, so this could all be the naming and marketing. I tried the cortado and was satisfied with the quality. The space- I assume its because they are so new, but there are not enough tables for the space nor outlets. Given that this is a cafe in the middle of campus, thats a huge drawback to the space. Lastly, the wifi, at least when I visited was poor and probably shouldve been posted somewhere near the front as the barista told me the wrong password. It also is a little confusing which part of the counter is the pick up area.I would like to see this place thrive as its clean, aesthetic, and bright even on a gloomy and rainy October day. Their staff are personable and open to questions. A2 Coffee Roasting Co. definitely has their work cut out for them, but I plan to visit again when theyre more settled in to try more of their menu.
The baked goods and coffee are absolutely delicious and you can taste how much thought went into everything. Ive noticed alot of people complaining about pricing, but I think its pretty fair considering the level of quality. Also I noticed someone else comparing them to espresso Royale that use to be in the same space, they are no where near the same type of coffee place. Espresso royalle was garbage coffee.
Had the Ethiopia yirgacheffe pour over and it was amazing!Staff was super fast and friendly. They where a little busy but they seemed to have it down and a steady flow. The blackberry Scone was really good probaly one of the best in the area (scones in general I mean). Was please to find out that they try to source as much as possible from local vendors and that they make almost all the baked goods in house.I read the other reviews and noticed that a major complaint was the lack of plugs to charge devices and seating:This is good it means that there is a steady flow of business to the location. I was able to sit down and write my some of a research paper for about an hour before I decided to leave. Seating was adequate for the space alloted and the fact that they are still doing construction. As for the complaints about the music, it was the perfect volume for me. And, the songs where relaxing while also being energizing. . Its hard to find a good middle ground with everyone having a different taste and volume preference.Yes the name is long but at the same time this sets them apart from the normal places. Everyone could simply just say a2 coffee and the nick name would probaly catch on. I dont see this as an issue. Since they plan to roast coffee on site sometime next year which will be an amazing thing to see.Environment 8/10 (only because the construction kinda takes away from. The overall relaxing feel)Service 10/10Quality 10/10Taste 10/10price 10/10 (a little expensive but it is ann arbor so everything is.)
Lack of seating is a big problem. Significantly less seating in the back & front for studying than the old place after remodel, half what was in the back right than before, the entire left back seating was removed and replaced with apparently some sort of office? (-2 stars) but better bathroom setup (+1 Star). Lighter vibe than before. Unfortunately for some inexplicable reason like most coffee shops they feel the need to play old music justa bit too loudly which is both cringe (for being out of date) and annoying (for being too loud). Luckily most of us regular coffee shop goers know to wear our noise cancelling airpods to help cut this nonsense down. The feel of the place is definetely more of a come in get your coffee and leave and walk around town place than before. That seems to be the audience which the new owners are targeting. But unfortunately that is not at all the customer type that frequents this location in over 20+ years I have known the area. People want to come to this location to get a coffee and study at a table then either go to class or get some food nearby before heading out for other stuff. Your customer base is college students, and location feeds in right off of Diag. With now too few tables it means customers will have to find other places to go instead. Tips for new place: Add more tables, and dont let anyone over 27 pick the music if you insist on having music. If you really want to play music than, play Lofi chill music so we can snack, drink, and study with our friends for hours on end. And your company name is too long, you need something much shorter and easier so we can discuss it often, no one is going to say, hey do you want to go to Ann arbor coffee roasting company? but students passing each other in the diag will say hey meet you at A2 coffee later?
Very overpriced and not that great. The wifi is also terrible. They cant even be bothered to have trash cans inside. The employees are nice and the service isnt terrible at least. Do yourself a favor and just go to Comet or Lab, which are also local, significantly cheaper, and have better options.
Decently clean, serviceable coffee, BUT poor seating layout and almost no outlets in the whole shop.I’m visiting from out of town and I like to support local coffee shops, but this place makes me wish I’d visited the Starbucks nearby instead. Not a good place to get work done.

2022-04-25I wanted to give Ann Arbor Coffee Roasting Company 4 stars but the expensive nature of this coffee shop is going to lose it the fourth star.Leaving the price aside, Ann Arbor Coffee Roasting Company is a 4 star coffee shop -- good atmosphere, ample seating, nice aesthetic, and of course, the great location. If the prices were reasonable, Id say itd close out the loop and would be happy to recommend it. Especially considering the staff is friendly and the coffee is pretty solid!However... that dang price. I was a little taken aback when I ended up spending 7+ dollars for my coffee... I expect this kind of thing from major coffee chains, but not local shops! Some people may come for me saying that you pay a premium for the location, which, fair. But... weve all seen local college coffee shops done well (I wont name names), and without the exorbitant costs.Im still going to give Ann Arbor Coffee Roasting Company another shot... Im open to having my mind changed, and hopeful that feedback helps drive the prices to a realistic amount.

2021-11-19I was super excited to try this place out after seeing it on Tiktok and Insta, but have to say was pretty disappointed. First off, let me say that my Coconut Creme Latte was really delicious- expensive (medium was $6.25?) - but good. As someone who also works in a higher-priced coffee shop in AA that didnt bother me as much. What was frustrating is the extreme lack of tables/outlets in the place. It is a HUGE coffee shop, there are so many empty walls/lonely chairs, but very few tables. In the pictures you can see the empty wall space and a section of just chairs they had with no tables. People were using their laptops bent over on their laps or bent over on the bench seat. Not really sure why all these chairs had no tables to go along. There is a section in the front with bar stools, but the counter is WAY too low for the height of the stools they bought, so you pretty much have to bend in half to use your laptop there- and no plugs around. For me, the biggest frustration was my computer dies quickly after doing some homework, so I asked the barista where the outlets were because I could not find one. He said there are two outlets in the entire cafe- a HUGE design flaw for this place. One of the two was in use, and the other (in the back by a pile of boxes and garbage can) he suggested I could pull a chair up to. I worked with my laptop on my lap here for 20 minutes before I decided to go to Stray Hen cafe, 5 min walk away- TONS of tables and TONS of plugs. I really do hope they are in the process of getting some more tables/outlets somehow because would love to come back for the vibe/coffee, just not the seating/work situation. Also- very friendly staff!! Really appreciate that

2021-12-01First time here to check out the coffee and space...not too many tables...open bench with some chairs available. Lots of space that seems under utilized.Coconut creme latte was delicious! You could smell the coconut and taste it in every sip...well done! Ordering this again!$5.75 for 12 oz / $6.25 for 16 ozWhiskey latte...this tasted like a regular latte, a bit on the sweeter side. No whiskey flavor... its been boiled down to sugar. Nothing special.New Orleans iced coffee was super yummy too! Reminded me of a Vietnamese coffee on ice. Also a bit on the sweeter side but in a good way.Would go back again! Customer service was great! The guy on the register was super patient and helpful in explaining the different drinks. The girl making the drinks was quick and knowledgeable too. Both nice and friendly to customers! 🙂

2022-07-12Friendly and quick service, very clean overall including bathrooms. They have vegan baked goods, which was nice to see, but the vegan scone left a little to be desired flavor-wise. Overall a nice experience though.

2022-01-22Drinks: 3.5Staff: 4Environment: 4Flat white was decent, staff were efficient. This is renovated from the old espresso royale decor and the coffee is an upgrade, but it’s still a terrible study spot since there’s no outlets and the wifi is almost unusable.

2021-12-31What an awesome place! First off, the interior design is gorgeous. I like how open it is. The drip brew was excellent, which in my opinion is how you know a coffee shop’s coffee is good. But the best part about being there are the people! They are super kind coffee pros who made my weird day a lot better. I’m glad Ann Arbor Coffee Roasting is here!

2022-02-23Pros:The baristas are nice and the batch brew is better than Starbucks.Cons:You can’t tell where the line is supposed to start. The baristas don’t know much about the coffee they serve. This is on management, not the baristas. Just wanting to know where on the world the coffee is from and how it’s processed. Should be part of the training to be able to answer those kinds of questions, especially at the price point. The price point. For espresso and espresso based drinks, it’s overpriced. I’m not some curmudgeon used to unlimited pots at diners. I’ve worked in specialty coffee for a number of years. I believe in paying for good coffee. 3.75 for an espresso (a roasty blend) is not standard. I’d pay that much if it was really great. But it’s not really great. It’s an average espresso blend.I don’t like leaving reviews. Especially not negative ones, but I really care about coffee and this place is kind of wack. Worse than wack, it’s a little criminal to ask this much for espresso drinks for they give you and how they train their staff.

2022-02-12The only good thing about their coffee is the variety of milk you can choose, and the soy milk or pistachio milk are good brand.Staff and baristas are very cold and impersonal. Whenever I asked something, they pretende not to hear or just have me very short and abrupt answers. The store should train the baristas to be more passionate about their work.I don’t understand why they have such big space but lack napkins or drying paper after hand washing.Lastly: I understood they are still training barista but the latte art was disapproved…Cheap and very commercialized pastry

2022-03-17Great latte! I travel around Michigan and find joy when I discover a coffee shop that understand the art and science behind coffee.Out of the hundreds of coffee shops I have visited in Michigan this place is in the top 10 in my opinion.
