Comment: Ive been living here for a few months now. The units are practically soundproof as I dont hear any of my neighbors. The apartments themselves are nice and everything about the building feels pretty safe and secure. The office management is always super helpful with anything I need, and have been a great help. Every single restaurant Ive been to within the area has been delicious, not to mention that basically every fast food chain is within 5 minutes. The amenities like the gym and pool are incredible. There are smart thermostats as well as auto locking door locks which is very nifty.The first downside is parking. Guests need to park across the street as the guest parking spots in the garage and outside the front office are always full. With the 2 bedroom apartment, youre only given one parking space and need to pay $150 a month for another parking space, which is very odd.The 2nd downside is that the living room and bedrooms of the apartments, or at least mine, dont have ceiling lights. There are ceiling lights around the apartment like the bathroom and the kitchen just not in the aforementioned rooms. Whats even odder is that the wiring exists and is setup ready to go for those rooms, its just that the lights themselves dont exist.The last downside is that its $75 to be let back into your apartment if you forget your key once the office closes which is pretty steep, and there is no 1st time warning.Update: Management seems to be actively trying to improve the guest parking situation. There is a new app that must be used and people are towed when they improperly parked which is great to see.

Comment: Amazing office staff.The fire alarm goes off at least weekly and they are almost always false alarms. They are loud to the point of pain and their frequency is such that no one takes them seriously, which is beyond dangerous. I usually wrap a pillow around my head and wait for them to stop.The people in the leasing office are really nice and helpful, however the trash chutes are permanently overflowing, there have been repeated mistakes from the office during move-in where I was given keys to another mailbox for a current resident. Guest parking is a joke, normal parking is stressful.Alright place the units themselves are clean and comfortable, the area isnt great and it might be more expensive than its worth, but not bad. The apartment itself is pretty good, the neighbors are okay. A few units make a lot of noise (theres a few dogs that have separation anxiety and make sure we can hear it every day, all day).

Comment: As nice as the apartments and complex may seem, the management has been horrendously inconsistent. Before I even moved in, they gave me the wrong parking spot, incorrect mail key (that actually went to someone elses mailbox that contained mail), had an ant infestation that they refused to deal with (prior to beginning my move), trash chutes are constantly overflowing and they blamed the residents. *Edited to update that the front office staff are kind and helpful.As helpful as the office people were about fixing their own mistakes, management also removed assigned parking, which was promised at the beginning of move-in. Not only did they raise the price of parking, but now its first come first serve. For an apartment complex of its size, parking has become a nightmare. *note, review has been updated to reflect the change in parking back to assigned spaces. They also have zero security cameras (poor decision for the area were in) and floodlights that will stream directly into your room, without an easy option to put up blackout curtains. This led to a license plate being stolen as the garage gate has been broken for years.You will actually get hearing damage if you live here because of how frequently the fire alarms falsely go off at all times of the day and night. They also go off enough that no one takes them seriously, which is dangerous.

Comment: My husband and I toured here today and the leasing consultant, Charlie, was absolutely awful. We showed up late to the tour, and despite calling and texting to inform the office of our delay (both went unanswered) Charlie was sure to greet us with a loud, sarcastic, and rude “Oh, you had a tour scheduled at 4:00? And you’re here at 4:31?! GREAT!”, then proceeded to rush us through a tour while yelling at us in a completely insufferable and condescending voice. I was ready to walk out before the tour started, but my husband wanted to see the place (which was too small anyways). Even if I liked the place, Charlie alone would have kept me from giving this place a dime.Charlie, if you’re reading this, either deliver better customer service or just refuse the tour if you’re going to act like a fool. Or perhaps consider a different line of employment altogether.

Comment: New management: “Sunrise management” is AWFUL.Living here was a lot better before new management came in.Do not live here if you want your car broken into and management to do absolutely nothing about it.We pay monthly for gated secure parking and the gate to the parking complex has been broken for 8 months and counting!Someone broke my car window and stole things inside my car because the gates been broken, I called and told management and did everything they asked me to and they have done absolutely NOTHING about it.Save your money, look elsewhere for a place to live.

Comment: This place seems like a great place to live at. The management responds to you promptly at the beginning, but once you sign the paperwork, they completely change in behavior.Back in August, I visited the Charlie and signed the paperwork for my apartment. I was charged $198.5 in total, $45 of which was for the application fee, $3.50 of which was for the service charge, and $150 of which was for the administrative/holding fee. The $48.50 was non-refundable; however, as stated in the addendum, the $150 was refundable, should the Charlie not approve you. I was in a weird case because I was accepted at first. I submitted all the paperwork as requested, but the Charlie wouldnt accept them because they were in SGD, not USD, although I clearly had enough funds to pay rent for multiple apartments simultaneously. The foreign currency was because I am international. I have never had this problem at any other location, and I have lived at the University Town Center (Irvine Company), Kelvin Court, and Toscana (Equity Apartments).I asked them to refund my $150 because they were not only making it virtually impossible for me to move in, but they were also starting to avoid my calls at one of their numbers and were barely answering my emails. Every time I talked to them in person, I would be told that they had to confirm with management first, but never got any response. I decided to take it to the bank and set up a dispute. Unfortunately, all the documents were in their favor because I had no evidence that they wouldnt approve of me. Im not sure if this was a way to scam applicants, should they not approve their paperwork. I lost $200 and gained lots of stress, especially since I was on the verge of being homeless (thankfully, Toscana took me in like a day). Not a huge amount of money, but definitely money I would not have wanted to hand to this company.Definitely do not recommend this apartment for internationals, if your funds are from abroad.

Comment: I come here to make clear my dissatisfaction with the service provided by the Leasing Office.The new team apparently doesnt care about helping to solve problems, they answer emails every 10 days (if they charge for the answer), they rarely answer calls and when they answer they say they will return and that doesnt happen. I moved buildings precisely for these reasons, more than 25 business days have passed and I have not received the deposit amount back. I would not indicate the condominium unless they improve the administration.

The guy at the reception desk was very rude to me and accused me of having an attitude with him. I barely said anything, and then he told me I could leave the customers order on the curb outside. If this is how they do business, Id never live here.

Comment: The new staff of the building are constantly leaving early and not helpful at all. When I first moved in the old staff was amazing and kept the building clean. But I choose to leave due to the elevator always being dirty, the halls smelling awful constantly, not enforcing parking rules, and the staff never addressing any concerns I had. The fire alarm also goes off constantly (at least 2 times a month) and its extremely loud. I moved out 4 weeks ago and still have not received my security deposit back . I have kept calling constantly to check where it is. This building is nothing like it used to be and the new staff are just unpleasant to interact with.

Comment: Staff: Amazing even before moving in.Sarah explained exactly what was needed and streamlined the application process and even stayed late while I was stuck in traffic to make sure I could pick up my keys to move into my unit. Sarah continues to be quick to respond to emails and resolve anything I may drop by the office and inform her of, from a busted key fob to getting the IT guy to fix an ethernet port, quick same day fixes to issues that may pop up.Glenn has been just as helpful and quick to resolve issues. When I informed him that I didnt have a mailbox key, he took me to check the mail, ordered a new key and the next day it was ready for pick up.The cleaning team is fantastic! Every morning while im in the gym and several times throughout the day I see them in action cleaning around the apartment complex.The gym is great, the amenities such as the business bar, pool, several outdoor lounges, grills, and fire pits are all amazing... the guest parking situation is atrocious though. HOWEVER the staff was honest and upfront about the parking situation before I even started the application. Id suggest turning some of the spaces on the side and back of the building into uncovered parking.

Comment: This is my opinion. Very unprofessional. (Almost lived here, glad I didn’t) but I was visiting a buddy and parking in future resident parking since they don’t have ANY guest parking whatsoever. I get this ticket stating I had been there since 9am when I got here at 5pm. Untruthful with how they conduct business. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Just putting my opinion out for others.

Comment: My BF and I have been living at Arte West, formerly known as the Charlie OC, for 18 months! Our lease is coming to an end soon, but we will definitely miss living here. Everyone on staff is very kind and willing to help whenever you have an issue. The gym has to be our favorite amenity here because it is huge, fully equipped and very clean. The community is super dog friendly, which we love! It is always nice seeing fur friends around. My BF and I have an electric vehicle as well and it’s a great perk that the community has charging stations. Overall, our experience here has been great. We will miss calling this place our home.

Comment: My fiancé and I have been with the Charlie OC since early-2020 and we havent had the need to move out because of how great our apartment has been. To be honest, weve had different management that wasnt really helping out the residents but ever since theyve been changed to Jose and Tanya, they have been on top of everything from security cameras to updating parking with tenants. Maintenance has also been on top of things as well and Id like to give kudos to our housekeepers who help clean the gym/sky deck!

Comment: They recently enacted assigned parking here for all guests, which is fine, with the exception that they towed my vehicle which was charging!I specifically called in and asked if we could still park in the only two parking stalls to charge our cars, which they said we could. I go out at 3 am to unplug my car now that it completed charging and it’s gone!Come to find out they did not let the tow yard know that charging stalls are ok.Now I’m an hour late to work, just had to come out $410 for the unjust tow, wow!Would not recommend this place as they have not tried to resolve this yet. I’ll keep you all posted if that changes!

Comment: Moved into the apartment earlier this year and were very happy with the place.The maintenance staff has been superb, they address any of our questions or fix requests within a day or two.The apartment itself is very nice, includes w/d in the unit and also has dishwasher. the gym is very well equipped, one of the main reasons to consider moving. the other amenities are kept clean and feel very modern.the building can get a bit noisy due to the proximity to harbor blv, but the rooms were built in a way that we sleep very well! no complaints during the night when you try to sleep

Comment: Love living at the CHARLIEOC. Been here a year and my housemate and I both decided to renew our lease for another 15 months. The apartments are modern and clean and the amenities are also very enjoyable. Especially during the pandemic, having a gym onsite was very nice and the gym and rooftop clubhouse are great for hosting parties. Greatest part about living here tho is the location as it’s on the borderline of Santa Ana and Garden Grove which is great for my work (in Costa Mesa) and also such good food in GG. Def recommend!

Comment: After living here for a year, i can say this is by far the most professional and safe place Ive ever lived in. People are very kind and pet owners are very responsible with cleaning up after their dogs. They often have fun little events for the community to get together and enjoy a movie night, brunch, or a wine evening. I havent had a problem with parking which is great. The maintenance team is very quick to fix any problems that may arise. The people in the office are the kindest and most patient people youll ever meet. I would highly recommend this place if youre looking for a safe, friendly, calm place to live.

Comment: Just moved in June 2021. Management has been amazing. My experience is that it is very tranquil where I live. Very quiet. I’ve had the unfortunate luck of have a very loud neighbor above me who stomps it seems all day and sometimes all night. The issue seems to have been addressed by mgmt, it’s improved slightly. Trash situation needs improvement. Guest parking is really bad. Another issue I have is that some people MANY guests to our amenities at one time. Kids in the gym that I know do not live here, How did they get in? A family of 20 at the pool running around and tossing a football around and almost hitting other residents. These are isolated incidents, but again goes to question, How did they get in? Policies are constantly shot out in emails but doesn’t seem like they are enforced. Would I renew my lease? Still to early in mine to tell. If I do I’d have to determine cost and incentives for a bigger unit since I have a one bedroom. Gym is Legit!!! Maintenance is on top of it! Same day repairs and very courteous and helpful. This place does a lot for its residents, movie nights with refreshments, brunch, halloween activities for pets, food and toy drives for homeless and in need, so thank you for all that!

Comment: This apartment complex is so nice for Santa Ana! The city is definitely up and rising so this place takes the top spot for moving in. My sister has been here for over a year now and she has said nothing but good things about this place! The office is super friendly and the best part about this place is the pool and amenities. Also, they have taco Tuesday here and local food trucks that come out so it’s pretty amazing how much they find ways to cater to the residents. In the future if I ever move and stay close to home, I’d consider this place for sure! Until then, visitations are always nice here.

Comment: I’ve been living here for about 9 months now and have to say, it’s a great place. It’s very modernized and the amenities are fantastic. The pool and jacuzzi seem nicely sized, and so far have been holding up well with the amount of tenants it’s received as of lately, however I can’t say there have been very many tenants there at one time. The gym is definitely one of the better gyms I’ve seen in apartment complexes, but not exactly with the durable equipment of a commercial gym like the pictures may seem. The sky deck could be bigger as well, but it does give a nice view to the San Bernardino mountains and casts pretty well over city views. Parking for visitors, PLENTIFUL thus far, but of course that may change as tenant occupancy rises. Visitor parking is horrendous and makes you not want to have visitors. Management so far has been attentive and professional, but I can say the notices distributed to tenants can seem a little less friendly and more business professional. Altogether, I’ve had a great stay here at The Charlie and plan on re-leasing depending on rent pricing, which is why I can’t give the community 5 stars yet. At a close rental rate to luxury style living, The Charlie falls JUST short of that title. I can not call it luxury. It’s in a high traffic area of Santa Ana/Orange County, multiple accidents and a less exquisite night life lurk outside the community. On site security has been changed multiple times in efforts to keep proper supervision of the gated community. Homelessness has definitely settled in this side of town too. There is a new management crew on hand, and things have improved during my 9 months. I look forward to spending a few sun filled summers here.

Comment: During my stay here at The Charlie, it had it’s normal up and downs like any other apartment complex out there, but the leasing office and the neighbors are what makes the place so livable and so fun! I’m sad to say that our lease is ending and we have to move elsewhere due to work but if those changes weren’t being made, my bf and I definitely would’ve renewed. The pandemic tested us all being at home for the most part but everything else that’s happened here at the Charlie has been nothing but the best. Tanya and Jose have been our saving graces for the past couple of months and I’m going to miss them so much!!! These two have done an exceptional job and making our stay here enjoyable and aside from the struggle of finding guest parking, it wasn’t a big issue at least for us. You’re gonna find this anywhere but I have to say, this spot is the best spot in Santa Ana when the city itself is up and rising, don’t miss out for an experience yourself.

Comment: The Charlie is a very well kept environment! Staff is attentive to requests. One subject that may need improvement on is the parking due to the limitations here, hopefully that changes soon! All in all its been a pleasure here.

Comment: As I mentioned in my previous review, The Charlie Oc, has definitely won 5 stars along with my comfort and love. Where to even begin? Lets discuss what 5-star staff and costumer service is, because youll definitely find that here at, The Charlie. They have quality staff running the community who are the most caring, patient, and professional office members - from the managers and office staff to the maintenance and cleaning crew. Through my process of applying the office was very helpful and thorough with ANY and ALL questions I had. (Literally). The ambiance throughout the community will brighten your day because of the great office staff who stay on their toes to accommodate their residents in the most effective ways; (including maintenance and cleaning crew who work everyday to keep a clean and functioning community). From the outstanding and clean amenities, to the fun virtual classes they provide for residents, to the fun community events held (summer pool party, art classes, etc.), to the private dog run park that feels safe for not only pets but kids as well; with gates at every end. Its a nice little walk to take after dinner even for oneself. And check this out - security circulates the premises everyday during AND after hours. One thing I would like to highlight is that the residents living here need to be more thoughtful and throw the trash in the their own trash bin if they see the community trash bins are full (maintenance cant throw out trash every hour so residents definitely need to step up their game in this aspect) - I am pointing this out since I viewed other reviews complaining about trash when Im sure they are the same ones who stack their trash on top of full trash cans. Lets not forget the food trucks that are brought out for the residents, its a perfect touch for those who need a day off from cooking for the fam or those with carvings. Yum!

Comment: For what its worth, everything is decent, not luxury level but no major complaints. Saw one homeless person once in the 8 months living here, security guard was already looking for him.Gym is amazing, management seems generally responsive communicative. Safety though I can see how thats a big problem for others since checking reviews on Yelp & here, people still report car break-ins and seeing homeless people without much thats being done. (Not sure what can be done other than hire security agency thats willing to confront/forcibly remove non-resident homeless).Guest parking sucks. But theres at least fall back option close by you can work around.

Comment: I am a resident here at The Charlie. Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting the new Manager Tanya and her Assistant Manager Jose. Can I just say I love them! They are so friendly and professional. My original plan was to stay short term now I feel like I definitely want to stay long term and look forward to the summer months. Looking forward to using the pool! I highly recommend this property!

Comment: This complex is horrifically managed. Between the 3 month-long gate repair, rampant ants, homeless people sleeping in RESIDENT’S PATIO’S, constant theft of packages, car break-ins, overflowing trash chutes, people speeding in the garage, cars double parked, the absurd amount of false fire alarms, and PLENTY MORE, moving here has been nothing but the most regrettable decision I’ve ever made. The management would rather spend their time attempting to arrange food trucks to upkeep the appearances of a “luxury apartment” than spend their time spending any time on changes that residents have been BEGGING FOR. A quick glance at any of the reviews will tell you things like cameras, security, & cleanliness are things that residents have been asking now for over a year. It seems to me that the Charlie seems to think that these requests are absurd & unfair given that there hasn’t been ANY sufficient progress made around ANY of those items. I’ve lived here for 7 months now and nearly every interaction Ive had with management has been negative given that I receive the same response with no changes or aid whatsoever. I’ve lost complete confidence in their capabilities & competence. The actual price is living here is about at minimum $200-$300 + rent because you’ll be spending that money on either replacing broken car windows, replacing your stolen items, packages, car parts, or if you’re unlucky enough maybe you’ll have your vehicle stolen. Do not live here, you will have a bad time.

Comment: There is almost no security at this complex, Ive lived here for 7 months now and my room mates and I have all gotten our cars broken into. 3 separate break-ins, months apart. We reported all 3 of them to the office and they have done nothing so far for security. They said we cannot guarantee security of the parking lot. There is only one camera in the parking structure on the 1st floor, there are 6 floors total???Dont live here unless you dont care about security.

Comment: When we first had moved in the middle of September everything seemed fine but at the end of October we had found a homeless man sleeping on our patio. We had called the safety patrol thinking that theyd be there within 15 minutes like the dispatcher had said. An hour and a half goes by with this man snoring and talking in his sleep before the patrol had finally came and yelled at him to leave. The next morning we had brought the situation to the managers attention and all she can do is say you shouldve called the cops. If that were me I wouldve called the cops. MANAGEMENT DOES NOTHING!Just this morning my boyfriend goes to leave to run errands and he finds his passenger window broken into. I used to think that all of the bad reviews were just people who got their application denied. We went to let the manager know and before saying anything she already knew what we were going to tell her. She goes youre the one with the window broken? I was just going to call you. After complaining to her about not having proper security all she can say is we never guarantee safety for anyone. MANAGEMENT DOES NOTHING! They never have solutions to any problems. They only have them filed for record. Planning on moving before the lease is up. DO NOT RECOMMEND MOVING HERE!!!

Comment: Tracy, Karina, and Linda should not work for this complex. They are unhelpful in any situation pertaining to problems within the complex even though it should be handled by them. Will not be renewing my lease when it is over. Guys avoid this place at all costs!

Comment: I recently moved into an apartment here and have been very pleased with the facility. The pandemic has limited our use of the amenities, but overall it’s been great so far. Our maintenance guy Luis is really friendly and does everything he can to make sure we’re comfortable. As far as the office is concerned, Tracy has been exceptional. Since day one she has helped us transition into our place and we’ve been very happy with that. Any questions we’ve asked, she’s addressed promptly.I recommend giving this place a shot, it’s new and very nice!
