Chuck was a big help when my car broke down near Kalkaska. Figured out what was wrong within ten minutes and worked tirelessly to find the parts needed even around a holiday. He’ll do anything he can to fix your car in a timely manner and get you back on the road!
Chuck is a hard working, retired Certified Mechanic whose business is in a 2 storey cinder block garage on his property. When my VW Bug broke down and I was desperately searching for someone to fix an electrical problem in my non-American car, and not take advantage of my situation, Chuck was the one who promptly answered my call. He saw to it that I wasnt left stranded and got my car back to me promptly, even working around my time constraints. I dont know enough about cars to judge the quality or price of his service, all I know is my car is running this morning, with no surprizes dramas or delays. From the other reviews for Rapid City, Id say there are lots of good, honest mechanics in these parts but maybe Chucks availability and personal attention sets him apart.Several days later, I continued my vacation and drove a couple hundred miles home. My car continues to work beautifully. Thanks, Chuck!
Chuck was amazing! We had the part before arriving, he had everything installed and ready to go in a half hour. Very personable! Helped us when we were in a bind having to drive back to Grand Rapids the next day. Thank you Chuck!!!
Absolutely Call these people. Hardworking , Honest , Accommodating and Professional. Broke down on side of road, 131 North of Kalkaska, Rear wheel about to fall off , on our truck, pulling camper with my family.From out of town , traveling home 11:00 pm at night. Chuck rescued us. Got us off the Road, Safe and Fixed up in a Flash. He towed our camper. Way beyond the call of service. And the charges were fair and honest . Great People !!!!
On a camping trip are Breakline blew we looked for someone to fix it and he was more than willing to help and got it done fast supper supper nice respectable AND professional! Very very welcoming he also took the time to show my husband how to do the whole break job i would highly highly recommend chuck hands down !

Amazing service! Chuck helped us when our starter went out. He explained what he was doing and how he was doing it. He wanted nothing but the best for our vehicle!
This place will do the trick if theres nobody else available. I didnt care for the Ill tell you how much itll cost you, AFTER Ive fixed it attitude, but like I said- if nobody else is available...That being said, Ive seen worse. Cost me about twice as much as going to a normal shop, but it was after hours around 9pm.If it can wait until the morning, you might want to. Otherwise, this place isnt bad as a last resort.

I got a flat tire on a Sunday night before opening day of deer season. .. He helped me out. .
I arrived safe back home late night Sunday after a trip to traverse City , my minivan start to make a lot of noise from the front wheel bearings last Sunday night , luckily I found help from Chuck a retired experience mechanic that open his repair shop 24h he found the problem and fixed on Sunday morning , highly recommend if you happen to need help!

2022-01-02My fiancé and I came up to Traverse city for New Years weekend, we were set to leave on Sunday and right when we left our hotel room to start our 3 hour drive home to the city, my check engine light came on and my car was shaking upon accelerating. We went and had the car diagnosed at O’reily auto parts and asked if they knew any shops open and they just said “No not on Sunday, good luck” we’ll luck was absolutely on our side when we called the only 24 hour place open and Chuck came to our rescue with no hesitation! We received some of the best service from any mechanic we have ever had and impeccable hospitality. We were very far from home and instead of being stranded, chuck & Karen welcomed us into their home and kept us warm and even gave us a hot meal at their table. I would have never expected this kind of hospitality and friendliness that these beautiful people graced us with today. Chuck was kind enough to go pick up parts with us, and fix the issue we were having in no time! Although, there was no rush because we enjoyed every minute being there! Thank you for everything! 10/10 would definitely come back!

Helped us when local shop Kalkaska Car Care had no customers and turned us away because they might get busy while helping us, lunch hour. This gentleman at auto express, top notch.

2021-02-12Traveling through Kalkaska in the middle of a frigid night we blew a tire. After limping to a hotel I called around for help. All the local shops told me it would be days before I could be back on the road. Chuck went above and beyond to get my family of four on our way. Within a couple of hours he had us fixed up and was super friendly to boot. Highly recommended!

2021-06-27On a Sunday afternoon I found a screw in both of the rental cars rear tires. Chuck helped right away and made things happen. His shop was clean and he can handle whatever you need. Give him a call and hell take care of you.

2020-10-05Like most of the people who left a review, I needed work done after hours. Chuck did things a normal mechanic would not do to get me back on the road on a Sunday night. He also charged less than the nearest shop quoted me. He actually cares about helping his customers as much if not more than he cares about making money. Truly a good and caring guy.

2021-06-13Chuck toke my car and changed my tires and taught me all about the process and basically hand taught me how to do everything even about the tire sensor and different types and just really friendly and he drove me home because it would take a day or two and he even picked me up when my car was done. He has great storys and is like a dad I never had.

2019-07-25Absolutely the best service all around!! We were at Elk Lake this weekend when my wife ran over a curve in my Handicapped lowered Dodge Grand Caravan. Our exhaust pipe was completely crushed & the exhaust was not going through the pipe. We called the 24 hour service station which happened to be Chuck at Auto Express. He was a Godsend!! He was very courteous & knowledgeable.We dropped off the van at his beautifully equipped business late Saturday night. He cut out & re-soldered a new piece on the exhaust pipe & did an oil & filter change and was done by Sunday afternoon. He even straightened a dent on my hood from a previous time as a courtesy. He also checked over the van & made sure that there werent any other issues. He took his time explaining & showing my wife everything he did & gave her some advice regarding our tires. 2020-07-07Chuck made it possible for my brother to make it back home to start his new job Monday. We were camping and his starter went bad, then just after getting his car back he ran over a rock and busted his oil pan. The day before the fourth of July. (Friday at 4:00pm) Chuck happened to be out and about and saw my brother on the side of the road and pulled over to help him. Talk about a big hearted man, you can’t find people like this. Chuck quickly ordered a oil pan before the parts store closed AND took his holiday weekend to fix my brothers car! You cannot find anyone to work on your car like this gentleman. It was a pleasure to meet someone with the knowledge this guy has!
