Comment: If I could give 0 stars, I would...I booked a 12-passenger transit van on January 4th, 2024 for my June 22nd, 2024 wedding. The van was to be used for round-trip transportation for my 70 guests for the bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. I was called a week prior to my wedding by the Fresno CA Downtown location to inform me that a transit van would not be available for my booked dates because it was overbooked. I was offered a 5-passenger vehicle instead. I was told to call customer service to address the issue.I called customer service to explain the situation and was told that a manager would contact me in 24-48 hours. I called the branch to discuss this with the manager and was told that I would receive a callback from the manager. I have yet to receive a callback from the manager after over 24 hours. I have called the branch multiple times after waiting 24 hours for a return call. I either get placed on hold immediately and remain on hold with no pick-up or sent directly to the Avis directory.I called customer service again today, where I was told that the local branch had canceled my reservation. I was again told to call the local branch to address my concerns. Ive tried, but again, they do not pick up.Ultimately, this experience makes me concerned about renting from Avis Budget Group again. For a company with over 75 years of making plans and keeping them, I have been very disappointed with their actual ability to keep plans. This experience has not only been impactful for my trip but also for the 70 guests in attendance for our wedding.

Comment: They dont even deserve a star, in December I made a reservation online, it didnt show up in their system, they treated me like I wanted to do something bad to them. The ladies are not friendly, particularly one of them with the Mexicans. Then I went out to look for the internet, I made the reservation again and they didnt want to rent it to me, bad service, bad customer attitude.

Comment: This downtown Ventura st. location is the worst. I highly suggest never to rent from them. Had amazing service at the airport location. The downtown location tries to punish customers for using third party apps like Expedia, and for one way trips. They tried to force us to take a car 2 sizes smaller than reserved, and then charged the same price and told us they would mark our reservation so we could not swap at another location for the correct sized car. Completely unprofessional and downright rude to us about the entire situation. Never again.

Comment: Worst car rental experience of my life. Was assured multiple times by the staff that my rental had unlimited miles. When I returned the car, they charged me $150 extra for the miles I drove, and showed me the clause buried in the fine print of my agreement.Caused my total to go from $30 to $180 for a 1-day rental. Would never have rented from here at that rate.

Comment: This place has the WORST customer service- and that’s a feat for being in Fresno. I rent once every couple of months for work and leisure (when I don’t want to add miles to my own car). But every time I come here, something is always wrong. Reading the other reviews, it’s apparent that there are always customer service issues and this is because the people at the desk OBVIOUSLY have no prior work experience. I appreciate Leo helping them out, but can you give them proper training- like on the rules?! Those girls can never offer a pepper answer or suggestion and I’m usually dealing with these people raising their eyebrows at me when I ask questions, shrugging their shoulders, and literally telling me there’s nothing they can do. They even had the nerve to say she couldn’t look up my history because “once it’s closed out, it’s closed out”. So you’re telling me that your franchise isn’t capable of seeing if someone has been there before. At this point, I asked her to then just cancel my reservation. She’s looking down and not acknowledging my request and when I ask again, she looks up and and with an attitude says, it’s done. Here’s a FREE customer service tip: If you’re not making eye contact with me or speaking to me directly, I don’t know what’s going behind the counter. This place is used to making their own rules and doing what they want. I am calling corporate to inform them as well.

Comment: I was quoted by Sasha one price, then was charged an extra $100 without notice. Apparently it is an extra deposit for using a credit/ debit card however they do not have this posted or communicate this to their customers. When brought to their attention, was told, I was training & doing my job at the same time.When I spoke with Leo (the owner) was rudely told to bring the car back to get the extra $100, while out of town. I asked Leo how am I suppose to get back he replies Not sure. Leo was extremely happy to tell me hes the owner and no one else can make this right.Unprofessional, insensitive to customers, condescending and altogether disgusting at doing business.This was my second time renting here and this rule wasnt applied the first time, nor is it stated on my reciept.I will tell EVERYONE about my experience and recommend they rent from anywhere else but here.

Staff at downtown location were helpful, I did eventually get a rental (much higher$ than my reservation) but they were overworked and overwhelmed. Took over an hour to merely drop off.

Comment: I have had pretty good luck with Avis over the years but when you drive for 2 1/2 hours nonstop to get to their downtown Fresno location and they tell you they do not have a public restroom for paying customers it makes you a little upset. I am there waiting for the old man to get the paper work done and then the printer messes up and I swear it reminded me of a Tim Conway comedy routine going on while I am about to burst from my bladder being so full. He apologized for it taking so long but that did not help my bladder one bit. I finally got my rental vehicle and left so I could take care of my business and went to the gas station across the street and they did not have a public restroom either. Next time I think I will just go to a different location like Merced where I know they allow their customers to use their restroom. It is a shame...

Comment: Hopefully I won’t need their services anymore. They demanded a full tank return when I didn’t get the car w a full tank I got it w 3/4. Then when I returned the car was short from $3 full but still even more gas than what I got it and they still made me leave the place to go fill it up and it was so close to being full it was almost touching the full line. $3 away. Ridiculous. I would understand if I got it w a full tank but it was not full. I thought I had discovered a great place to rent cars but I rather not deal w them.

Comment: The worst car rental experience ever. They didnt have the car rental on time. They then demanded we put a deposit on a credit card and that it matched the driver, so we switched drivers around, charged a fee for that. Then we go to return the car, they accused me of smoking cigarettes in the car and I dont even smoke. I refused to pay $250. I told them that I could pay the fees of the rental on a debit card (as my credit card didnt have sufficient funds, only used for deposit as they demanded), but they still proceeded to charge my credit card card and with the $250 fee even though I am not a smoker nor did I even have anyone in the car that is a smoker. The manager, Phillip, was rude and unwilling to help in any way. After he told me that he will not help me or continue to talk to me, I asked for his supervisors number, he refused. So I called the customer service number. The gentleman I spoke with was nice, but unable to connect me to a supervisor, just documented the situation. And thats it. So not only did I have end up having to pay the bank overdraft fees for them charging the wrong card, my account is in negative, but there is an unwarranted $250 fee that I dont deserve. I have rented from so many rental car companies, and never have I had such a bad experience. I will never be going with this company again, nor will I suggest it to the many people I know in this town.

I went back the next day to return the car and the old man owner was rude, called me a liar and stated that his location wasnt closed. While on the phone with corporate filing a complaint due to his behavior he proceeded to laugh at me. I will never be coming back to this location and i would advise everyone else from coming here as well. To this man all customers are just money and he thinks he can treat you as such.

Comment: Avis owns Budget & Payless car rental and theyre all horrible. They charge exorbitant fees for $2-$4 tolls that somehow turn into $70-$90 by the time they send you a bill. Even when you already have your own toll device and have paid through your own system. This has happened to me 3 times. And theyll take your money then try to come back SEVERAL MONTHS later saying you own more tolls. Crazy. All the so called cheap car rentals are under the umbrella of one of 3 major companies so be careful who you choose. The greed feeds into 1 pot.
