Comment: My fiancé and I had a rental car booked for months through Costco Travel. We show up to get our vehicle and the truck they originally have for us needs to get serviced and inspected, and is therefore unavailable. They only had 1 truck left for renting and no other sedans/SUV’s. If you go online, it says there are cars available but when Javier at the Rancho Bernardo location checked his system, they are all out of stock. This truck available however had little-to-no tread on the back tires, putting us at risk from a safety perspective. We were not comfortable driving the truck in this condition but they said there’s nothing else they can do. Their best option was us driving to Orange County as we were told this was the nearest Avis with an available car. Javier was super helpful and none of this was his fault, and instead it was due to poor management by his higher ups. Thank god for Cindy at the Avis Palomar location who saved us. We reached out to her and she had a truck being delivered as we spoke on the phone with her. By the time we drove 15 minutes to her location, our original truck’s low fuel warning and service light came on. Cindy was amazing and got us an incredible vehicle for our 6-hour drive up the California coast. Would not recommend Avis, but they’re saving grace is how amazing Cindy was. All of Avis’ management employees should take a pay cut and they should give a huge raise to Cindy and Javier.

Comment: Avis quoted an ‘estimated rate’ for a one-way trip and then charged me 3 times that amount when I arrived stating that there was a mileage charge even though the miles driven were known at the time of their estimated rate. Bad look Avis. Very shady business practice. A follow-up call to Avis resulted in some relief in the form of a 20% credit. However, the credit never appeared. Oh and the Camry that I rented was instead a Chevy Malibu which was pretty much awful.

Comment: It is a small counter on Carlsbad airport. I got a great one way rental for a great price from decent staff. But wait time was longer here. Additionally you need to walk far away to pick up the car. I had to go back to the counter to report a scratch on the car body after picking it up.

The interior was completely covered on dark stains, it smelled of cigarettes, even the keys were dirty.When I went back to the desk at Palomar airport to ask for a new car, I was basically told by Kim, a surly lady at the desk, that there were no other cars available, even though I had seen plenty. When I said this to her she told me it would be two hours before they could give me a new one. When I said that I would be back in two hours she then changed it to they probably wouldn’t have another car for me even if I came back in two hours. Disgraceful. I will never again use Avis.

Comment: I have to say that the girl that works the front desk at the Palomar airport office in Carlsbad, CA is absolutely awful and so not helpful at all! I booked a rental to be picked up at 1:30 and got there at 1:00. She made me wait a half hour and told me to come back a the time scheduled. I did that and when I returned she said she couldn’t really rent me a vehicle because you have to wait 24 hours before you can rent…but, it allowed me to pick the 1:30 pickup time when booking the appointment…didn’t make sense. Then she said I had to wait for all the people that hadn’t arrived prior to my appointment and who knows if they were ever showing up! They had plenty of vehicles in the lot to rent so she was perfectly able to do so…I think she was just trying to make things impossible to rent a vehicle. The girl working the Budget desk next to her was rolling her eyes in disbelief of her behavior.So, she finally decided to allow me to rent and gave me a downgrade and wouldn’t adjust the price. Absolutely ridiculous. I really needed to vehicle for the day so I agreed and was on my way. I called customer service to share my complaint and they adjusted the price/bill and confirmed there was no policy to wait 24 hours when renting. You really need to consider getting rid of that employee because she is not helping your business at all!! Just an fyi…

Comment: DO NOT RENT FROM HERE...CAR INFESTED WITH ANTS! We rented a car for a day & soon realized during out trip that it was infested with ants. The insects were crawling all inside the car (and on us!), coming out of the vents and doorjambs. We finally were able to find another Avis rental and exchanged the car for a different one. Called the manager at Carlsbad Car Rental who said THEY KNEW they have an ant problem, with ants getting into their cars, and basically tried to say that it was not their fault they have ants, that the Carlsbad airport is the one at fault and is not doing treatment. Told us to try running the heater for 20 minutes - as if that is even possible in this heat on the way up to LA on the 5. They know they have a problem with ants in their cars and are literally renting them out anyway. The manager was trying to make it seem like all of Carlsbad has ants which is categorically untrue. Yeah, we have ants in the ground but Ive lived here for 6 years and havent once had ants inside my car. Maybe they need to do pest control inside their vehicles or treat the property where they store the cars but simply renting out ant infested rental cars is not only GROSS but totally unsafe and a poor business practice. Even after we switched cars, we still had ants crawling on our belongings that had been stowed in the previous car. Its unbelievable management would think any of this was remotely acceptable. But no, she wanted to argue that it just happens. Meanwhile we were late because we had to find another Avis dealer and switch cars. She credited us 1 day for the car but frankly they are lucky we didnt get in a car accident with all the ants crawling all over us. Absolutely unacceptable and gross.

She contacted me personally and said they close soon but would wait for me before she left to make sure I got it back. Comment: Cynthia would not rent me a car (that was already paid for) because my driver’s license is “Temporary” notice is a full on driver’s license issued in Tennessee, with Real ID, accepted everywhere including the airports, and your company (I’ve rented in multiple occasions before with Budget) I just have to renew it in 2 years vs 10 like a citizen would.But for an unknown reason, Cynthia just wouldn’t take it and was kind of rude about it.Luckily I was with a friend and she accepted to rent it to her instead, but my friend wasn’t in conditions to drive. That was our only choice so we did it.Then they gave us a dirty car, that was due maintenance, also the USB port was malfunctioning making it impossible to use our gps since it kept disconnecting and the buttons to use the media display were stuck so once it disconnected it was impossible to get it to show again.We had to miss an appointment and go to the San Diego airport to exchange the car and add me as a driver, guess what? They did add me, since my license is completely valid.So no, I am not gonna recommend it, actually gonna ask everyone I know to stay away from that location at least.

They have absolutely no capacity in thinking along with their clients.Long story short: I am here with my girlfriend because she will be following a 3 months long rehab program for her spinal cord injury. We came al the way from The Netherlands and we arrived last Friday. Last Saturday we were planning to rent a car at Avis / Budget. Unfortunately, they didn’t had any cars available so we went back to the hotel. Right after we arrived at the hotel I realized that I lost my wallet with all my cards and driving license inside the Uber. I called the driver but it I was already too late. Someone grabbed it.My girlfriend is in a wheelchair so without a car we are not able to travel long distances / to the rehab facility.I did everything in my power to collect important documents for a car rental including a police report, a copy of my driving license and a document from The Netherlands that is digitally certified and signed with a verifiable digital signature by the Dutch Vehicle Autority.Even though Avis / Budget didnt want to even think of helping us out!Were so so disappointed in your service(!!!)

Comment: Avis rented a car to us that had a dent in it and a crack in the windshield. The car also had a self-driving feature that steered the vehicle unexpectedly, which created several dangerous situations along the highway. The car reeked of smoke so bad that my wife had to bring the car onto the driveway at our house with all the doors open for an hour just to freshen it to the point where it became driveable. Extremely poor quality when it comes to vehicle selection and no clear customer service help. I can see why Avis loses customers and money.

Comment: I got a car with a damaged tire. They declined to change it or fix it. Roadside assistance was useless, they declined to help because my driving license does not have a state on it. There is none, as it’s not from the US. I have no idea what would have happened if I don’t notice the damaged tire and it blows up in the middle of nowhere.I understand many things, putting your customers’ lives in danger is not one of those.

Comment: The customer service agent was very helpful. The service counter at Palomar Airport had no line. Additionally, the service agent upgraded me for free to a mustang. All the preceding are great. However, the quality of choices of vehicles were limited, and there was no owner handbook in the car to assist a new driver in dealing with all the features in the mustang, such as the back windows, which dont always roll all the way up. So, I would very likely recommend Avis for customer service and efficiency of service, but not choices of cars.

When extending for 4 hours (same day) the total online billed at approx $54. Then the website crashed after I confirmed the change. Tried again - way more $$.So that began my ordeal of hours and hours trying to get someone on the phone to see what was up. Two days and 5 hours late, and after speaking with everyone but the right person, I gave up. Went to the airport location and got everything sorted out in 10 mins. THKS ladies!p.s. This is obviously frustrating especially while Driving at night, its unsafe, please teach you people how to clean properly and have some pride in what they do. Secondly, my bill was a pay in advance and it ended up being more, the lady at the front desk was less than helpful and pointed me to your corporate phone number. Great service there, thats all I need another 30 minutes out of my life dealing with more potential headaches. If this is your master plan, well thats wonderful, I have a ton of travel plans coming up and may end up switching to Enterprise, the proverbial straw is about to break. Comment: While it wasnt a perfect experience (which are rare as hens teeth to begin with), it still was very satisfactory, primarily due to the friendliness and helpfulness of the man at the desk, who was prompt and efficient in getting me on my way. It would have been perfect if 1) the vehicle exterior had been cleaner (there was mud residue in all the crevices--again, not a deal breaker, but not perfect either) and 2) if the fellow who drove me down to the vehicle had been friendly and helpful--again, its just a matter of personality, but he didnt seem like the kind of guy who would welcome my questions. He just pointed the vehicle out to me then walked off to stand at a distance. A language barrier may have been the issue.

They say they have no hidden fees but they do. He didnt apologize for giving us a car with maintenance issue and gave a rude attitude when he gave us the new car.The new car was extremely dirty and smelt so bad my wife felt she would threw up. It took three cars, three locations and a nice man from the Vista, California location to replace the car.The only reason we are giving one star is because of that man helping us.Honestly recommend against Avis.

Comment: We will never be using Avis again. We rented a car for 6 days. Upon our return we noticed a toll charge which was surprising to us since we never use toll roads. We called Avis twice on Sunday (April 21st) and were redirected both times to the Avis toll number which didn’t seem to be working that day. Called back twice on Monday (April 22nd); the first agent gave us a partial refund and also sent us an itemized toll receipt. After I ended that call, I looked over the toll receipt and saw that we were charged for using a carpool lane. I called back and explained to the second agent that at no point were we told we couldn’t use carpool lanes and I also told her that we had verified before we took the car that there was no service fee for the toll box in the car. That agent said she would process an almost full refund. Today (April 25th) we noticed we only received the partial refund. Upon calling back today (April 25th), they said they could only see the first agent’s notes about the partial refund. I asked to speak to the supervisor and she said that she could also only see the partial refund. The fact that they would lie about not seeing the almost full refund note is ridiculous and deceitful. We will definitely not be using their services again.

Comment: The Avis in Denver Colorado was terrible. It took almost 2 hours to get my car. Avis stated the computers were slow, however I could see employees clearly going to a corner of the counter and just talking. Only one representative was doing most of the work. Then to leave the parking lot only one attendant, so again long wait. Maybe they could have took some of those people who were talking in the corner and opened up a few more Lanes for people that waited two hours for their car.

Comment: Very disappointing experience trying to rent from Avis recently.After securing a reservation, I received a voicemail stating that the Avis location I had selected had no mid-sized cars. They had one SUV, but they were going to charge me more per day, even though I had not requested an SUV. A second call revealed that the SUV had a flat, so they had no cars.I called the 800 number to move the reservation to a different location. That location also took my reservation despite not having any cars wither.I called to 800 number again. Changed locations again. The price went up again. And when I finally went to pick up my rental - surprise - they didnt have any mid-sized cars. The gentleman working offered me a Nissan Versa or a Ford Fiesta. When I refused, it turns out that they did have one Ford Focus left, but instead of the $114 reservation (up from $102) it was going to cost $153 plus taxes and surcharges. For a smaller car.I have had trouble renting from Avis before (cars not clean, or not fully fueled) but the agents in those cases were helpful and were able to make it right.Not the case this time. I left without a rental car at all. Thanks for nothing, Avis.

Comment: I rented an SUV at our small airport location for a one-way to Phoenix. I usually rent from a neighborhood location, so thought it might be a hassle. However, process was speedy and fine.The agent had to give me a full size SUV instead of the intermediate I ordered, and I was afraid gas mileage might be an issue, but it was no problem--gas mileage was about the same as a smaller SUV. Car was in good shape and performed well. Return at Phoenix Sky Harbor was easy.I find that Avis is usually the best agency to rent from--best prices and choice of cars.

Comment: How wonderful are these people? My son was going to be attending his high school prom and a group of them had coordinated to share a limo, but at the last minute those plans fell through. I contacted Alfredo at Avis and he assisted me along the way to try and get a luxury vehicle without having to pay through the roof. The limo company wanted $800.00 just for 5 hours. Alfredo not only had a car set aside for me, he told me that if on the day of the prom, we wanted to have possibly a better choice, to contact him and he would see what he could do. I loved the fact that the day prior, he had a 2016 Black Lincoln Navigator standing by for me and my wife to serve as a Chauffeur complete with dressing in all black for our son and his date to take pictures at a nearby park in Carlsbad, Dinner at Benihana in Carlsbad, and the prom at Paradise Falls in Oceanside. Thank you Avis and especially Thank you Alfredo, you totally saved us!!!

Comment: I love this Avis Palomar Airport location. The staff is friendly, the car pick-up/drop-off system is the best. I have rented from this location numerous times and have never had an issue except this time. (2/2016) When I got the car it seemed clean as it should be. However, as I drove away west towards the sunset, the sunlight exposed the dirty windshield. It was obvious the wipers had been used and the area outside the wipers had water spots. There were also two rings, as if someone placed two drinks on the windshield. That couldnt be possible without them sliding so not sure what they were from. OK, no biggie. Maybe the guy ran the wipers after he washed the car. But then when I opened the back door, there was a Carls Jr bag on the floor. That told me someone didnt clean the car. So then I inspected the car closer and I started noticing little dirt signs on the car exterior. My take from this was that the guy who cleans the car may have seen that it was pretty clean and figured it was good to go. Other than this, everything was fine. I will still be getting my cars at Avis from this location. This incident is isolated and has never happened before.

Okay thats not to say that the other employees arent great as well, but Richard is the man!Whats not to love about a rental car location where you can pull up and be at the front counter within 1 minute with no waiting. Unless youre unlucky and someone happens to be ahead of you. But usually theres no one in line.Great selection of cars, most are one-way drop offs from other locations and states.Ive rented here more than 30 times and always get upgraded from the cheapest economy car to either full size, SUV, or sports car, depending on what they have available.Very rarely are economy cars in stock so keep that in mind because if you absolutely do not want an upgrade because of the possible extra gas cost, then this might not be the rental location for you.There are 3 gas stations within a couple of miles so you can wait until you get close to fill up (Chevron - right off the freeway, Shell - 1 block east of the airport, and another Shell - about 3 blocks east of the airport).
