Comment: A car rental should be simple: get car, drive it, refill gas and return it. What to do when the car will not start on the last day of the rental period? Should be as simple as calling Avis and getting them to deal with it. Not the case where all I needed was a battery boost (58k miles on car)! Called the 1800 number for road side assistance and all I got was a voice mail run around. 10h until my flight was leaving and Im 2 hours away from the drop off point, a slight panic sets in as Im traveling with family. After ~15 minutes in the voice mail run around I hang up and call Avis at the SFO location. All I need is a boost but they put me back into the automated system again. Avis, you cant even get one of your rentals a boost! Thats not customer service that I could ever recommend. They always say so sorry but do nothing, so their customer service is a 0. Avoid Avis as they cant even get a battery boost to their rentals.

When I mentioned that I never authorized this charge, the customer service just apologized for the inconvenience? There wasnt even an indication of reversing the charge.-Ive always held Avis in high regard due to its reputed service, which is why I chose you without hesitation for my recent trip, especially this is our honeymoon..From October 6th to October 10th, I rented a vehicle from Avis. My usage of the car was routine, having rented cars in numerous countries without any issues in the past.However, on October 9th, we stayed overnight at Crater Lake National Park. While it rained that night, the temperature was a mild 32°F (0°C). On the morning of October 10th at 6:30 AM, when we were set to head to Medford Airport, we found the car wouldnt start.It became evident that the cars battery was at fault, through no wrongdoing on our part. We watched as other visitors in the national park departed without any issues, yet we were stranded.I even saw other travelers with the exact same model of car drive off without any issues, clearly indicating that the battery of the car assigned to us had problems.This unforeseen event disrupted our entire schedule. We spent nearly 7 hours, from 6:30 AM to around 1:00 PM, waiting for a tow truck. By the time we reached Medford Airport, it was already 3:00 PM. We had missed our 1:00 PM flight to Salt Lake City due to the faulty battery provided in your vehicle. Unfortunately, there were no other direct flights available that day, forcing us to reschedule our tickets, incurring an additional cost of $618. On top of that, we had to find accommodation in Medford, adding another $107 to our expenses. This incident not only caused financial strain but also significant stress.I genuinely believe we deserve compensation for the losses endured due to this incident. Not only do I request the rental fee for this trip to be waived, but I also believe Avis should cover the additional expenses incurred, including the flight adjustment of $618 and the accommodation cost of $107.This is a deceitful and irresponsible company. Unless they are willing to genuinely address the issues and offer solutions, I might consider adjusting my review.Its unfortunate that they caused such significant losses, showed no willingness to compensate, and even deducted an extra $178 from us post-rental for additional services. Instead, they just kept repeating their apologies for the inconvenience. Its baffling. Did I rent from a scam company or what?🔥🔥 Unless Avis they are willing to genuinely address the issues and offer solutions, I might consider adjusting my review.

Comment: On vacation from UK, San Francisco Counter staff Josh was amazing and really helpful. He upgraded the original booking of a Ford Edge as it wasnt ready. He offered a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon which I knew nothing about. He explained in detail the vehicle and allowed us to go see it and come back if we didnt like it. We loved it and it was perfect for our roadtrip from San Franciscoto San Diego. He advised there was no like for like fuel and to not worry about refueling. Unfortunately I took this advice but was later charged over the top price for the refueling. Drop off at LAX was easy. All good except for the unexpected costs.

Comment: This is NOT the Airport Avis location. The best part about this location is that the prices are way lower than the airport location, the service is quick and friendly. The cars are parked right in front of the location, so you can select whichever you want without having to walk through the parking lot

Comment: There is a mile charge if you return your rental car to a different location. I found this on my invoice when I was at the counter and the guy told me that no worries I can return to the same place and change the drop off location when I return the car so that I don’t have to pay for mile charge. However, he didn’t inform me that my drop off time is 2pm but their office close at noon. I ended up with still returning my car to a diff location and being charged $0.25 per mile I drived which is really ridiculous. I tried to call the office before 12pm and no one answered. This is very unprofessional.

The car they provided was completely filled dirty and stinking with smoke smell.They were not providing any replacement vehicle too.I had to clean the vehicle myself again.Also, there was just one person on staff, and was extremely overwhelmed with the demand there. We couldnt add any additional drivers at this location too as thier systems were slow and outdated.Also when we returned our car the following day, the guy behind the counter didnt log our return for an additional hour and we were charged an additional days rental charge.Overall it was a pathetic experience.I will HIGHLY recommend just visit the AVIS at the SFO Airport, the staff there is well trained and cars are very well maintained.

Comment: If your planning on renting a car from the Avis Airport location, I suggest you choose the South San Francisco location instead. Its cheaper than the airport because its a smaller branch and doesnt charge all extra fees like the airport. Even though its a small branch, their cars are new and lots of variety. Moss was my representative, provided a fast and friendly service. Only downside is theyre not open on weekends, but you can drop off your vehicle to the security guy anytime you choose on reservation.

Comment: Had a good experience here. Within walking distance from Embassy suites and the Garden Inn, saves about 15-20% in taxes compared to the airport. Paid for a full size car and was given the option to upgrade to a midsize suv for no charge. Only downside is no after hours dropoffs so ended up having to wait 15 minutes until 8 AM when I came to return the car, but process was very quick as soon as they opened.

Comment: These guys were great. They picked me up at the south city BART station, drove me to get my mid-size SUV that was way cheaper than the other rental companies through the web. I drove the SUV to Coachella and back. The car looked like I drove it through the Sahara with the windows open. The guy checked the car, did not charge me 1 cent extra for cleaning, even when there were hundreds of leaves inside the car and tons of dust. Get your next car rental at this spot and drive with ease.
