Comment: Two times I have used Avis from Santa Maria CA to LAX. Both times they were beyond amazing, helpful, positive and patient. The 1st time we had rented a car from another company who had left santa maria airport location but never informed us so we didnt have a car. We went to Avis and asked for help with a last minute rental and they gave us a great price and my sons dream car!! The second time was another last minute rental due to american airlines canceling my flight and having me drive 3 hrs to lax. They didnt lower the price this time but did upgrade me to help turn my day around. Kindness helps kindness. I will forever rent from Avis when possible. They have been amazing and helpful and really helped add a positive spin to a bad day.Thank you Avis

Comment: The las y time I rented a car it was not ready for rental not stank like cigarettes and was dirty inside. Coming from working in the business, I know what is expected for a car to be ready. Also the representative seemed to not care about the concerns as she was just going to document and had no clip to write anything down. How sad it is that this is the way they represent their company. Not happy with Avis this time.

Comment: Terrible Service! I reserved a full size Chrysler 300 months ago to travel to LAX. Three people, overseas for three weeks. I needed the luggage space. I called the day before to first make sure they were going to be open and had my reservation. Yes open until 4:00pm. Good, they have a habit of closing before a reservation time as agreed to during the reservation process with you company. I arrived in time to pick up my rental and they didn’t have the size car to fit my luggage. Recall 3 big suitcases? The option was a Mustang or a Camaro. Each has a trunk that would fit one suitcase, Maybe! He did come out while I was looking at the Two. The other option was a bit larger, but cramped on our trip. He said the car he rented us was out of service, but it was ok. It was dirty and only had a 1/4 tank of fuel. I called your customer service to ask what to do and it took three people, the first agent, then her supervisor, then another agent to get one problem addressed. So I filled up the car, $78, and needed to send photos and explain again for the fort time about just the fuel issue. Let alone the uncontrolled reservation system. The thing that really pisses me off is the totally Un-sympathetic conversations ant the total lack of ownership your company placed upon me, the innocent customer. The Franchisee needs to have his chain yanked and brought into line. He’s the same person who has the Budget Franchise. Piss poor customer service on both your company and his Franchise.

Comment: I rented an SUV for 5 people on 8/26/22 with Avis to start they sent me in search of a white Chevrolet Equinox that was not where they told me it was parked, I had to go back to the counter where they told me it was elsewhere 20 minutes lost.When I finally found the car I started my trip because I was running late, thats when I realized how dirty the car was, more inside than outside, the back seats were full of potato crumbs and apparently cookie crumbs, the windows were dirty and some sticky, the dashboard looked like they tried to clean it but what they used it looked like is was dirty too cause when the liquid they used dried looks bad.I had to take it to a car washes and cleaned because it even had a bad smell.Then I went back to the freeway and a light came on that said “ Change the engine oil soon” and I have photos to prove it.I dont know much about cars but a car with 7500 miles shouldnt have those kinds of problems so for me the maintenance is not being done regularly.For all this I give it only 3 stars because I am aware that these are things that can be 100% better.

The interior of car was fairly clean however inside windshield was not in good shape, lots of streaks and looked dirty. Service was great all questions were answered. Overall I would use Avis again very pleased with the experience.

Comment: My Initial review was a one star. I had rented a car from SM airport, brought it home and parked it. I had to leave super early the next day which is when I started to notice the interior odor, and how dirty the car was inside and out. I shrugged it off, until when I was far into my out of state trip and the check engine light came on (no-one’s fault). I received another vehicle for my return to CA. Upon return to CA, I was not pleased with the reception by the young lady who I returned the car to (no apologies for my negative experience). However, I am now pleased with the way the SM AVIS Mgr. and the Territory Mgr. have responded to my complaints to the point I have changed my rating. I also appreciated the customer service from both gentleman I dealt with picking up my vehicle at SM, Airport and Michael (Prescott, AZ). I would use AVIS again.

Comment: Car interior was dirty and not clean prior to renting it to me especially with current covid pandemic, very unprofessional I basically had to wipe down to whole interior prior to driving the vehicle. The vehicle was also not well maintained, as I was driving i can feel the steering wheel vibrations due to unbalanced wheels and also clunking noises coming from the vehicle. I was afraid I would not make it to my destination which is approximately 268 miles away.

Comment: I choose Avis because per website and agent when I picked up I could drop off after hours. I said it would be at 3 am which she said was fine. I was told to drop keys and paperwork in drop box inside airport. I arrived at 230 am to return car and all the doors to the airport were closed and I had no access to the drop box. I called Avis spoke to 2 agent the second who said he was only in reservations and couldnt help so he would transfer me. Which just unhung up. I then called back and spoke to Michael (the first agent I spoke to was Alex) who told me he couldnt help. I asked what I could do, leave keys in the car, if I could get my reservation extended at no cost because it was not my fault and I was told I only had until 9:30 am to return car or be charged an additional day. I had already driven for about 7-8 hours and was exhausted. I didnt like that fact that I was told very rudely that they were not in Santa Maria California and could do nothing for me. I didnt like the fact that I had to get up early on my only day off to return keys to car that I had left parked at airport at 230 am. Agent should have told me the airport closed so I would have gone straight home and not spend 30 minutes walking in cold at the airport and dealing with rude Avis agents on the telephone. False representation on your website and in person. Train your agents better!

Rented a car from here in August, returned it spotless and even washed it, 2 months later they send me a letter claiming I damaged the windshield and needed to fix it for $450. The vehicle was in perfect condition when I dropped it off and nobody inspected when I arrived or asked about the condition.For all I know, someone could have damaged it as it sat in their parking lot, very unprofessional staff!I called and told them this and they removed the charge, but then they secretly bill me in November without a notice!Will never rent from here again

Comment: The initial car we were issued had a bald tire...to the point that the thread was exposed. We were already packed and loaded when we noticed and had to contact Avis to get a new vehicle. The issue was resolved but there was a couple hour delay and it was a big hassle. We were not too upset about the situation but the response was disappointing. We did get a replacement but not once did we get an apology. If anything, it felt as if we were a burden. I’m not sure we would choose Avis because of this customer service experience.

Comment: My drop off location was not available and customer service was awful. I had to take the car to a completely different location and purchase an Uber back to my hotel. The only reason I went with avis was for the convenient drop off location. I paid an extra $20 choosing avis over Hertz, but with the Uber cost it ended up being more than $40 more and without the convenience.

Comment: The car was filthy. There was a decent amount of scratches and chips on the outside and also a chipped windshield. The car was not washed before I received it. There was bugs all over the front of the car. Once we got inside, the car smelled bad from the previous renter smoking pot in it. The customer service lady was nice but said she couldn’t give me another car and that I’d have to pay more if we changed it. I feel like I should’ve been upgraded due to the poor quality and cleanliness of this vehicle. She ended up spraying some air freshener in the car to help with the smell. The inside of the windshield was filthy and made it difficult to see when driving at night and other people’s headlights are shining through the windshield.

Comment: Worst customer service! Girl at the counter 1/05/19 approx. 12:00pm would rather scroll on her iPhone than assist me and make a phone call to find me a car to trade out my previously rented truck for, even after I called ahead and was told they had sedans available to rent I show up and explain to her the situation and what I was told over the phone. Yet she claimed she had nothing to rent to me and wouldn’t even find me a vehicle at another location nor let me know when she would have something available for me. I guess they had already gotten my money so I didn’t matter anymore. Total waste of a drive from Lompoc. And a bad taste is left. Bad business AVIS....

Next day took to tire shop person there said all tires were showing a lot of wear . Tire was no good $300 later because size

Comment: Rented an SUV for few days. SUV was filthy, dirty, food particulars all over and ants all inside SUV. Ants were biting us so bad we had stop and exchange vehicle. AVIS Santa Maria only gave us a modest discount for our troubles and will complain further up chain. Do not rent from AVIS, Santa Maria.

Comment: I had called and made a reservation 1 week in advance of my pick up. the agent was very kind and polite, I made my choice of vehicles I preferred and when I arrived on the day I was to pick up, it was all set and ready, all I did was show Identification which is normal and i was set. The vehicles I rented was a CHRYSLER PACIFIC A, that was the most comfortable and smoothest ride, my kids who were bouncing around in the back all of a sudden became silent, when I turn to see why they were all asleep,thats how smooth the ride was, that impressed me I would recommend Avis to all my friends when they need a rental car, the price, choice of vehicles and the cleanliness and comfort cant be matched as far as Im concerned, way to go Avis!, nice job indeed..

Comment: I’ve been renting at the Santa Maria Airport Avis location for over 10 years. I just realized that in all of that time I have never once walked up to the counter and wasn’t greeted by a friendly and engaging smile or laughter. I have 3 Avis locations that I love. At the top of that list is Santa Maria, followed by Baltimore, and Albuquerque. They are all great locations but Santa Maria tops them all. The friendly nature of the Santa Maria Avis staff is contagious and you often find that the smiles and laughter extend beyond the Avis counter over to Budget which also has a very friendly rental staff. However, this review is about the Avis staff. Although the staff is very efficient and responsive, you never come away feeling as if you were a number or rushed. As a loyal Avis customer I have grown to expect great customer service and I oftentimes judge other Avis locations using Santa Maria as a standard. Some locations have come close but none have ever surpassed the great customer service experience that you will have at the Santa Maria location. The best way to describe the Santa Maria Airport staff is “family friendly” and the service gets 5 Stars!

Comment: I really have enjoyed the ease and speed of the Avis rental facility at the Santa Maria airport. It is a small airport, and SO easy to get in and out of quickly. The Avis agents there are quick and friendly! Would highly recommend them.
