Comment: Employee named Kyler told me he would comp. me a tank of gas because I waited for an hour past my appointment to actually get the rental car and was almost late for work. He told me, and multiple other customers in line, that we could return the cars with empty gas tanks. After doing an after hours drop, I found an $85 charge on my card. I was charged $9.99 a gallon!!! I went back in to the branch after seeing this charge, but was unable to be helped and advised to call corporate. If the charge is not reversed, I will be filing a fraudulent charge claim with my bank.

I received the receipt charging me $120 more than I suppose, I returned the vehicle on the 22nd but the receipt stated that I returned on the 23rd, als the rate is also more much higher than what it supposed to be. I tried to call customer service twice but there were closed.

Comment: Picking up at Modesto airport is a plus because drop off is anytime on the weekend. The process is a bit confusing so ask before you take your car. We had a 40 min wait on a weekday with reservations so go early. Only one person at the counter . A long wait for a small airport. No help with deciding what vehicle so do the research. And they mentioned no dogs in the car so inquire about that if that might be a concern. The radio was awful and difficult in the Mazda mid suburban. I would recommend someone from Avis go over the features before you leave the lot.

Comment: Ive been renting car from Avis for years I switched from enterprise because Avis has a drop box which was way more convenient for me but I think after these last two experiences with Avis Ill be going back to enterprise. The first was I reserved a car 11/21 it was a one day rental to be returned the next day at 1630. I picked up the rental ran a few errands that night of pick up and had an early appointment in Stockton the next day. On the way to Stockton the engine light came on so when I got back to Modesto I filled the gas up and went straight to the Airport to return it, I got there two hours before my return time and they had a poster saying they closed at noon and would be open again Friday morning, cool day before Thanksgiving I get it they wanna be off early. Friday afternoon I get my e-receipt they were trying to charge me for keeping the car from 11/21-11/24, absolutely not I called the customer service and it took a while but finally got it handled. Then I reserved a small compact car for 12/2 also a one day rental when they gave me a car it was a challenger which I was like oh cool free upgrade so I went to the store and was heading to the freeway and as I was driving down claribel I noticed the car kept pulling to the right and I would have to keep straighting out the wheel and pull it towards the left to straighten out the car I realized the alignment was WAYYYY off so I just about to get on the freeway when I was like no Im by the Palendale location I dont feel safe driving this on the freeway lets see if I can trade it out there, the lady at the front desk was really nice but couldnt help me so I had to go alllll the way back to the airport location where they did end up trading the car out for me it took about 20mins but finally got done, the gas wasnt full it was almost half a tank whatever no biggie i was already late. So I filled the tank up returned the car this morning at 8AM and got my e-receipt about 10AM they tryd to charge me $140 for a one day rental I spent over an hour trying to figure out why on the phone with customer service, finally got it handled. Its frustrating because like I said Ive been renting with Avis for years Im going to try the palendale location or just got back to enterprise because its becoming a lot for no reason.

Comment: I had a very bad experience with AVIS. I reserved a car online using my employers benefits. My employer provides benefits covers the LDW (Loss Damage waiver) insurance. While I booked it online using my companys email-ID it allowed me to confirm the booking. However, when I arrived at SFO airport the AVIS rep discarded my booking. She said she would not be able to provide the LDW since its not a business travel. This rule is something that the rep came up with by herself. I checked all the possible documents available from my employer, nowhere does it mention that the booking is contingent to the business travel ONLY. Another thing is we had to wait for >1 hour before we got the rental car at the airport. I have never had such bad experience with any other car rentals. Finally, we got our car and we drove maybe around ~150 miles that is when the car started acting up. It was disengaging the gears and returning to neutral whenever we had to pass a car, which means we had to throttle the gas pedal a bit before overtaking. This was so dangerous since the car was returning to neutral every now and then we had to slow down our speed and this completely messed with our travel plans. After experiencing this we immediately looked for any nearby AVIS car rentals. The closest we found was in Modesto.Specific to this store:We called the store before arriving to see if they have any available cars, since we had full-size SUV. Person on the call confirmed they do have one. We immediately went to the store and were Horribly greeted by a lady who seems to run the entire store. She was rude and didnt at all empathize with our situation she also asked us to fill up the gas (although we had trouble with the car that was provided by AVIS). She said she has no cars available at the shop and no matter what anyone says over the call she would not give it. We really wanted to get the car as soon as possible since our next travel plan was at stake, we didnt argue much downgraded to a regular size SUV. While leaving the shop we did spot multiple Full-size SUV in the parking lot.At the time of checkout while returning the car I was asked to checkout at the counter since there was some issue with their system. I had to run and catch my flight because of their system issue. Akk in all- never going with this car rental company.

Comment: When I called to verify that they accept debit cards instead of credit they did not let you know they run a credit check so you may not be able to rent a car. I got dropped off at the facility, gave them my reservation number, went through the whole process then at the very end they tell me they denied me the car because of my credit. I work a full-time job, my income is over $100,000 a year and because of covid-19 and out of work my credit suffered and because of that I could not rent a car. My biggest biggest complaint is when I called to verify they did not give me the information about the credit report which in turn left me stranded at their office.

Completely unsafe vehicle that I discovered had no working wiperblades or washer fluid when it started to rain at night after 6 hrs of driving. No working high beams & a low tire pressure sensor going off. When I called roadside service, I was told the nearest location for help was 97 miles away! I paid for new wiper blades & they refused to reimburse me, or give me any refund for the HORRIBLE RENTAL! CROOKS

Comment: If you look at the total of my reviews, I NEVER GIVE A 1 STAR. I always try to give benefit of the doubt, but this? This was too much.I had never had a problem with these guys before until I went to pick up a car the other week. Any other time Id been able to do earlier pick ups, but this time I wasnt able to.In their defense, I booked my pick-up time through AAA who apparently cant see closing times and assigned me a 5:00 pm pick up and I was supposed to be leaving town early next day.I get there and everything is shut down. You know what, if it was just a matter of oh darn, the place is closed it would have sucked but been okay.What I DO have a problem with is the attitude. They werent even nice about it. Just brushed off with a nothing we can do and proceeded to walk passed me with the whole *dont make eye contact* approach, Im talking about like how majority of people walk passed and ignore a homeless person. Totally humiliating being in the situation in the first place, but their treatment was dehumanizing on top of that!Before you come at me with a youre supposed to call for details spiel, THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE. Ive been there before and saw people back there helping no one and just letting it ring away, so you get transferred off to an AVIS customer service rep who knows ZIP about the actual location.Not even worth the money I might have saved if Id decided to show my face here the following day. They sent my anxiety through the roof and frankly, renting a lousy car isnt worth my peace.I wouldnt reccomend them if you need an afternoon pick-up ever, they clearly arent afternoon people. Or people people for that matter. Great model for what AVIS wants to be known for Im sure (not😒)Enterprise trumps this place hands down. Just a couple miles away and much better service.👍 They will be getting all mine, my friends and familys business and referrals in the future. Ive notified AAA of the fact that they dont answer phones so we cant contact them to confirm details or ask questions. Maybe theyll add enterprise to their list instead!People may forget you, but theyll NEVER forget how you made them feel.Yikes AVIS Modesto.....

They dont have enough people so the cars arent cleaned between users. Fingerprints on everything, previous rental agreement, etc. Car itself was great. Nissan Rogue with gas mileage in the 30s from Modesto to San Francisco and back.

There is a no smoking sign clearly posted inside the vehicle and on the contract when you rent. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I thought the smell would go away but when I turned the AC on the smell got worse! If I wasn’t desperate to go where I needed I would of turned around and asked for a refund. This place use to be a good place to rent but I will not come back to this rent from them again.

Comment: DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!I needed a rental today to drive to my sister’s who needs help because her hubby is in the ICU. Thanks for nothing Avis. If I could give NO stars, I would. Today at 1pm I made a prepaid reservation online for a car rental to be picked up for today (3/25/2022) at 5pm. I received an email and text with my confirmation number and Avis even charged my card for the whole rental.I arrived to pick up the rental, the one I already paid for, and the two female employees (one was really short and they both looked Hispanic) behind the counter ask for my info. I give it to them, then they quickly say that I am not in their system and ask when did I make my reservation? I told them when and showed them my confirmation number and they told me that they do not have any cars available. Then I tell them that their online website says that they have a few cars available and even rented one out to me which I already paid for. They were not willing to help me and quickly said they do not have anything available until Monday.Then gave me an Avis brochure with the reservation 800 number and told me I should call corporate to report the problem because they keep getting yelled at by angry customers. So I called the 800 # and speak with someone who tries to tell me that there are cars available at the location I am at. I tell her I am at the location, and if she would like to speak with the employees behind the counter, I’d be more than happy to give them the phone.The rep on the phone ended up giving me my full refund but now it will take 3 to 10 business days to be put back on my credit card and now I am stuck without a car and cannot rent another one until my money goes through. Avis needs to fix this problem and have someone investigate this location. They are loosing money and just lost another customer.

Comment: I drove 2 hours from Twain Harte to pick up my rental car reserved for 12 noon. Arrived between 5 and 10 minutes late. The woman at the Avis desk informed me she shut down the computers and couldn’t give me my rental. All the employees were still there, the SUV I was going to rent was sitting right out front. I stood there baffled, never in my life have I had an experience like this. I’d been planning to drive my family to Oregon for our one vacation this year. My 2 children were so excited to ride up there in an SUV. We are not wealthy people so this was going to be a treat. If you could only have seen the looks on there faces when there father returned without a car and had to explain to them that we had to delay our vacation.Please, someone tell me how this could even be possible. Is there no humanity left in this world. Are the computer systems that operate Avis so rigid that no flexibility is allowed? If so there are dark days ahead for all of us.I’ve never left a review on any platform, but this was to much. If I could leave negative stars I would.

Comment: The Owner Candice is absolutely the rudest customer care representative I’ve ever encounter. We arrived to the location a few minutes before they close, and she was so unwilling to help us. She said “GET OUT, We’re closed” I don’t care who you are, you take care of a customer. Especially when your company provided a defective car. She is a terrible representation of the company, and it’s values. I will never do business at Avis ever again. Negative -5 starts for you Candice. 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

Comment: I needed to get a car for a quick weekend trip. I called the direct line, booked a vehicle and picked it up the next day. The two ladies (Candice and the blonde lady) were oh so very helpful and caring of my rental needs. The atmosphere was casual and friendly. A cohesive team took care of all my needs and I was off. Returning the car took very little tome. I was in and out quickly and professionally. I recommend this place to rent a car. Shout out to Candices team. You will have all my reservations in this area.... thanks.

Comment: So i was actually at budget rental, as walked into Modestos international airport, I felt taken back into the seventies. the furniture was sharp and bold and it all looked used, there werent many customers but surprisingly, Im told modesto has no more commercial flights, but yet theres a little hub bub at the terminal and all those darn people are renting cars like its an airport, the staff was great, they showed me a few vehicles i might like to suit my needs and put me in the one of my choice. lets just hope my vehicle is in one piece when i return the rental car. hmmmm can we edit a review??? so far so good.

The lady who was helping us, and I won’t say her name to save her face out of embarrassment, yelled at us 100% of the time when trying to rent a car. I don’t know where she got her retail experience from, but the fact that she said, “are you legal?” made us feel less than a human. Yes, we are legal and we wanted to rent a car. The lady who helped us should not set that kind of customer service example to the employees working for her. I plan to report her for her unethical treatment to us. After we rented the car, we were TERRIFIED to go back inside to ask what number our car was parked. When I did, the lady yelled at us the number where our car was parked. I could not believe how humiliating and dumb we were for choosing to rent a car from this place than simply walking away and choosing a different location. My father returned the car next day but not to her location because we plan to never return there again. So to all people of color, beware of the main lady...and be prepared for the question, “ARE YOU LEGAL.”

On top of that customer service rep wanted to charge me a fine of $150 for not picking up my rental. So long story short, a supervisor cleared the fine and now I must wait five business days for them to refund me....they should pay me interest for holding my money!
