Comment: Remarkably terrible customer experience here. Dozens (!!) of customers bonded over the course of waiting for 2hrs (still haven’t gotten our car as of this moment!) over our similarly disastrous experiences—waiting HOURS, then getting the wrong car or a super dirty car. It wasn’t the fault of the staff—they were clearly over worked, under resourced, and the systems are effing everyone over. These companies (Avis, budget, and payless) chronically overbook their vehicles and leave employees and staff to duke it out when it’s no one here’s fault. Total garbage companies that need disruption! Do anything but rent from these companies! Hertz and National were much better for another family we were traveling with. They had no issues at all.Edited to add: Avis replied to this review as you can see below (which was a step in the right direction). When I reached out with all the info they requested, I received this response: “I am sorry that you had such a long wait to pick up your vehicle. To help make up for this I adjusted $60 from the time and mileage charge already. If you have any other questions please let us know.” $60 is about 15% of the cost of renting their car for the week, and it was only extended when I created negative publicity for them (my goal was to warn others, fwiw, not get money). Idk. You be the judge of whether you want to do business with this company in the future. For me, this doesn’t communicate that they’re a company that values my business and is worth the hassle next time.

I was first scammed into additional insurance, the gal at the counter would only say it is recommended in the state of california but wouldnt even say what we were getting? Second, they never checked my car in? I had to call THEM to check my car in? My car had additional days added - absolutely NOT! THIRD - now I am dealing with a cleaning charge. Excessive Sand is their sorry excuse. We left the car in a reasonable state and they are charging us $125 for it? This has been the WORST Avis experience I have ever had, and if I could give them zero stars I would. I would rent anywhere else before I rented with them again.

Comment: We reserved an intermediate SUV for our trip to Yosemite. After landing late at night, we thankfully found Avis still open past their stated closing time (we arrived at 11:15pm and their closing time was 11pm). However, our reserved car was not available and the only car type left was a huge pick up truck. It was difficult to park even in Fresno and just was not going to work well for trailhead parking & would not be comfortable for our passengers.We were advised to go to one of the other Fresno locations the next morning, which we did, and were told they had no vehicles available to rent, nor could they help us contact the other locations to find out what might be available. We returned to this airport location and were able to switch the truck for the one we reserved. We easily lost two hours of our trip trying to deal with this.There was also no separate line for Avis Preferred so we waited 30 minutes at the counter.

They also charged me for an extra hour when I returned it early. Again photos saved me.This is in addition to the lengthy time it took to rent the car as the desk was dramatically understaffed.

Comment: I rented a vehicle at the Fresno airport. The woman working the counter was efficient and friendly but they definitely needed a second person to accommodate the line. We then waited 30 minutes for them to clean the vehicle. We didnt open the back doors but when we got home to load up, discovered the back was filthy, with dog hair and dirt. We needed to get on the road or we would have returned the vehicle. What a disappointment in a company that usually gets things right.

Comment: I would like to rate this lower but the staff on location was fantastic but the over the phone representative when I called to discuss this charge (Jonathan, that’s all his email signature says) was absolutely rude and as often as I rent vehicles and travel for work I have yet to be charged a cleaning fee for any vehicle. Stood in line (no Avis Preferred desk at this location ) for 35 minutes, then was sent outside to stand and wait for an additional almost 30 minutes waiting for my car to be delivered curbside. Contracts for Avis Preferred (and especially Presidents Club members) should be pre-printed and cars / spots assigned in advance - thats why we provide flight information. Many other frustrated customers standing out here as well. Our only plan is to help you keep yours well not at this location.

While other rental companies had short lines and efficient processes, Avis left me thoroughly disappointed.Firstly, I waited in line for a staggering 45 minutes just to get to the counter. This was a baffling start, as other rental agencies had minimal wait times. As an Avis Preferred member, I expected a smoother experience, but it was anything but that.When I finally reached the counter, I was informed that my reserved car, which I couldnt select through the app as a Preferred member (unlike other locations), was ready for me. However, the promised curbside pickup turned into a nightmare. I spent an additional 30 minutes waiting at the curbside while everyone else behind me effortlessly collected their vehicles. It was a frustrating and baffling situation.Realizing that something was amiss, I decided to return inside the terminal to address the issue. Unfortunately, I had to wait for another 20 minutes in line just to inform them that my car was nowhere to be found.This experience left me deeply dissatisfied and bewildered. Avis operation at this location was nothing short of horrendous. Given the numerous negative reviews, one would expect the company to take corrective action. As a Platinum card member, Ive decided to stick with Hertz Presidential Club, as Avis appears to be out of touch with the needs of modern-day customers. Its a shame to see such a renowned brand fall short of expectations in todays fast-paced world.This is the quality of car I recieved. It appears to have had 0 maintance looking at all the red circle. The car is not even safe with all the mismatched tire pressures and the maintance lights that have been ignored.DOT and highway safety should look into the practice of Avis at this location that jeopardize customers safety.

I prepaid for the Tesla and they said bc of that, they can’t refund me the difference. So I put hundreds of dollars into gas for the Wrangler all weekend instead of charging a Tesla and paying a little for that.FYI, they said they hardly ever actually have Teslas. So why offer them????

Won’t make that mistake again if I rent again with them. Took my $45 dollar one way rental to over $500. Albeit they’re refunding the mileage, the surcharges and fees still have the rental over $150 for a one way. It’s absurd.

I left a pricey pair of sunglasses in the sunglasses compartment of my rental car and did not receive any notice back. I tried calling for days but no one picks up the phone!! Comment: Arrived on 9/8 to pick up my prepaid rental. App would not allow me to pick up a car, so I had to go to the counter. No preferred lines and 30+ people in line. Even worse, no cars! After 40 min wait and only 4 people in front of me getting a car, I went elsewhere. Avis has assured me in 3 emails that my prepaid amount has been fully refunded but my credit card company says there has been no attempt. Avis continues to point the finger and has taken zero accountability for their poor operational performance and customer service. I would not rent here, but if you do, good luck!

The ONLY reason im giving this a 4 instead of 5 is because of 2 reasons.. at the fresno airport for pickup i did the perferred pickup but still had to wait in a literal 2 hour line because there are 3 car rental companies at 1 counter. the second reason is because a few hours after i got my car, the light came on that all 4 tires were low which i had to find somewhere to fill up with air late at night. Othwrwise great experience and would rent from avis again.

When I finally got to the front counter, I was informed that I was not able to get the SUV or any SUV which is what I reserved. It was so frustrating because if I had known, enterprise had no line and I could have cancelled and rebooked with them. If I was able to book the reservation, then an SUV was reserved for me, and an employee gave it to someone else. So many people in line booked SUVs and the front desk staff could care less about the situation. It was a nightmare to be doing all this at midnight. I had hoped to check in on the app and walk straight to the car or a quick check in process. Instead poor service, poor staff attitudes, and when we returned the car, no one is even outside to take your keys. Terrible experience from start to finish.

The line was pretty long, but the staff got us through as quickly as possible. Compared to the other rental companies, the line went much more quickly and was much shorter. He ended with a curt: If you dont return the car full well charge you $9+ ZERO customer servie skills.Later I confirmed he overcharged me because I didnt need the extra charges.GASBetween the rental experience and the condition of the car, I had a bad feeling about Avis. So, I arrived early for my flight to return my car and have time.I asked the Avis employee to please confirm that I am returning a full tank. She said, no you are 1/4 tank low. I turned the car on and had her look inside. This woman who helped me was polite and did take care of the charge. I wonder what would have happened if I did what customers next to me did: We are running late. Can we just leave the car?

Comment: Update: Moved to 3 stars, which means no one will ever see this because we all look at 1 and 5 start reviews mostly, but AVIS did reach out to us after my initial 1 star review and refunded me about a third of my $2K. I had prepaid in advance for a premium SUV for a 2 week trip that was dropping off at a different location than I was picking up, but there is no value in doing so, as it has no impact on whether they will have your car there anymore than if you didnt prepay. You may get a discount for prepaying, but then if it isnt available, the people at the counter cant adjust your price if you get downgraded. I think if you prepay, there should be some additional measures to make sure that your rental car is available. I know many make a reservation and dont bother to show up, but Im pretty sure the person paying $2K in advance is going to show up, so you need to make sure that car is there. Maybe that means the previous renter has to turn in much earlier than the day of the next rental, but people are jerks and will just keep the car past the date they have to return it because they want to. I think there should be a hefty penalty for that so that people will bring it back on time. But thank you to AVIS for making it right in the end.Previous: Rented an SUV 10 months in advance and was given a mini van after being laughed at and told yeah thats not going to happen.

I rent from Avis for business and leisure numerous times a year at similar sized airports, this was the most unorganized rental counter Ive ever encountered.Rental contracts, regardless whether you booked ahead of time, are all completed at the counter making the process very time consuming.No Preferred line is established. There is no ability to Skip the Line even with the Avis App. Of all the other rental car companies at the Fresno airport, Avis was the only one with a line, the other companies seemed to process their customers far more rapidly.Overall a very frustrating experience.

We visited the other counters renting cars and it seemed like many of them didn’t have cars and they didnt seem very focused on customer service.Gail was very kind, helpful and went above and beyond to help my family who was traveling with 3 small children (including a 1 year old) and had already taken 3 flights that day before ending up at the Avis counter. I’ve read down the list of negative reviews but we had quite the opposite experience. We rented a newer model ford explorer which was in great condition and experienced no issues with the car for the 8 days we had it -while driving from central CA to Santa Barbara and then to LAX.

Comment: Like many others I have always had a terrible experience renting at this particular Avis. Most recently representative Rose Delora was unprofessional, rude, and unreasonable. It’s safe to say that they have a culture of being extremely rude to their customers. Hence the many one star reviews. I will for sure be reporting this to their corporate office, but I doubt much will be done as it seems like they are okay with this kind of behavior towards their paying customers. The first car I got, the key continued to get stuck in the ignition. When I called customer service about the issue and ask what to do, the rep asked why I bothered calling, that I should just take it and return it. I asked if since the car was basically inoperable if I had to fill up the gas (it was missing less than 1/4 of gas), she said no just go. When I get to the airport, the rep there not only laughed in my face about the car issue, but told me that she was going to charge me $9.99/gal for the missing gas, even though I was told different and treated quite poorly. For the other car I was to get, she just grabbed a key on the desk, not one off the wall like everyone else usually. I thought nothing of this until I saw the car I had received. It was incredibly dirty inside and out, it was dented and scratched everywhere, took forever for the heat or defroster to work, and the windshield wiper fluid was empty, and tire pressure light constantly came on. So yes, I came to the conclusion that this car was just turned in. I had half a mind to go back inside, but could not deal with being ridiculed again. I called customer service again, the man this time took down notes of the car’s condition and that I would not be charged the $9.99/gal for gas. Also said he would give me a $100 credit on my bill for my whole experience. Do you think I got that? No. Screw you Avis. I have told everyone to stay far away from your company and I for sure will never come back to Avis or Budget, especially at the Fresno Airport location.

Go to the back of the line and wait until the lady from Cincinnati found her license and the family from Newark got the car seats they needed.Got my contract and keys, but there were no maps available. No sweat, I thought, since the car I reserved was supposed to have GPS. Wrong again. No GPS. Rather than go through the whole registration process again, I brought up Google Maps on my phone, and proceeded to my destination while racking up data charges on my Verizon plan, which I will continue to do, by the way, as I find my way around this part of California.The check-in clerk, festooned with smart phone and mobile printer so as to speed me on my way, didnt. Had there been a turtle on the hot tarmac, he would have beaten her to my car which, by the way, she made me go back to and move to a spot more convenient to her.This was Fresno. Normally Avis is really good.Fortunately, the car meets the expectations that keeps me an Avis customer. By the way, the Enterprise counter was clear.

This was never mentioned on the rental quote online so I was surprised when the rep told me I am paying for mileage. I only when over 100 miles even if I end up using 150 miles and if each miles was being charged .22 it should not be that much. Also, the car was scratched all over and it wasn’t even reported to corporate. Good thing I told pictures while I was in the parking lot and called to make a case number because I will not pay for damages before I even had the car.

My flight lands after this location is advertised as closing (why they dont stay open until after the last flight lands, Ill never know). That was Tuesday around noon. Its now Saturday at 6 PM, and none of the customer representatives know whether Ill have a car. Ive called the number advertised, and every option transfers me to a national call center, and none of the Avis reps, to include supervisors, that Ive talked to can tell me how to contact this location directly. Everybody I talk to says they cant provide me an answer, always saying that its up to the location, and then tell me to contact the location directly, but cant tell me how to go about doing so.This Avis location obviously doesnt care about its customers. It had my request for over 96 hours, and hasnt responded, just left it in limbo. Im traveling for business, and I cant afford to fly in and hope that I have a car from a company that is completely unresponsive to my needs.I shall not be a future customer of Avis, I can assure you that. Moreover, my company has a relationship with Avis, and they will be hearing of the terrible reliability and negligent customer service Ive received.Hertz, on the other hand, was able to guarantee an after hours pickup in 5 minutes. We asked for a replacement and requested that they check the new tires, and all of them were over 60 psi. We also talked to an employee who mentioned that they had other rentals with tire issues that were being sent out, and the only time they checked the tire pressure is if a light came on. We did not see a light on either vehicle that was way overinflated! If you rent from the Fresno Airport, or any AVIS do not expect them to check simple things like tire pressure. It only takes a minute, but if your tire blows out on the freeway, it could be very dangerous.

Comment: I was on a family vacation to Yosemite and hired a Toyota Camary in Frezno.My flight has issues and I had to drive to San Jose. The car in Frezno was dirty, even down to the glass. A maintenance warning kept coming up on the panel. I called 2 times to your customer services number to ask how much extra it would be to drop the car at SJC airport. Both times I was told that the computer was not coming up with a price. The second agent told me it could be $50 and to go ahead and drop at SJC. In SJC I was charged $150 and when I went to speak to the customer services agent there, he told me to call Frezno orthe customer service number. Working in the airline industry I found it odd that a customer service agent would tell me to call another customer service agent.

Comment: Budget stated the cost was $343, as it was on my PC and my cell. When I booked it, it was $457. 5 MINUTES later, when I called to find out why, I was told, If you dont to pay the $457, you can cancel, but it will cost you $150. 5 MINUTES>>>> later. I asked for a manager. They gave me a guy, who refused to help saying too bad. I called back to get a different manager only to be told that there is no manager on duty after 6:30 CST (This was 9:30 Arizona time, so they had been closed for a few hours). She also said I would have to call back then to discuss it. AND, BTW, your rental is still valid, it was not cancelled. So I cancelled it again. When I got to the terminal, I walked over to the Budget/Avis counter and spoke to the guy there. Very nice, but couldnt do anything. I tried to go ahead and do the rental since I was already out the $150, but their system was acting up so he took care of me on the AVIS side. The car I got kept giving me a Maintenance required immediately the whole time. It also pulled to the right. During times of this pandemic, they should try and take care of the people who are traveling and using their products. So sad that they are this bad.

Comment: I was pleased with my reservation and the cost/value of my rental car, but was not happy or comfortable with the level of Covid-19 safety measures in place while picking up my car at the Fresno airport. It was very concerning that the person at the desk where I picked up the car was not wearing (and apparently didnt have in her possession) a mask, despite the fact that she was sitting right in front of a giant sign that said that Avis employees would be wearing masks. It was made even more disconcerting that she continued to tell me to stand closer to her and the desk. There was a plastic shield installed, but there was a large gap right at face level that was made for the credit card scanner, so the plastic shield didnt seem adequate to protect either of us from virus transmission. A second employee came to chat with the person that was helping me and she had a mask, but was wearing it below her nose, rendering it useless. Additionally, in order to complete the transaction I needed to use a touch screen multiple times that may or may not have been cleaned recently: there was no indication that it was disinfected between customers, and I didnt observe anyone cleaning it after I used it. When I eventually got to my car, I had concerns about some body damage and the operation of the vehicle, but decided that I didnt want to risk going back to the counter in order to have my questions answered. So in the end I got my car and got to where I was headed, but the experience left me concerned for my safety.

WhenI arrived, there was no board posting my vehicle location When ai went to the yard, there was no Preferred customer board or representative. When I called Avis they could not tell me the location of my vehicle and told me to go to the counter. After returning to the terminal and waiting at the counter, the assigned car had not been washed, and then showed a low tire pressure warning light. I then had to return to the terminal and get another assignment. Horrible customer service for a Preferred customer.

For some reason I still dont understand why the price went up and I was charged the higher price than what was the original price I took the car at. I couldnt cancel it because I would have been charged $250. I will never use Avis again for this reason. I thought by pre-booking and prepaying I locked in my price. Which was not the case. I was concerned and needed to have a four-wheel drive because I was going into a Park area and I tried to call at the Fresno office to request that. And it could never speak to anybody nobody answered the phone when I would call the 1-800 number I spoke to some guy in China who said he would send an email and let them know Im requesting that. When I got there they said they never got the request I dont know anything about that and I was charged again even more $10 more a day as a upgraded giving me a four-wheel drive. Very very disappointed and dissatisfied. The car ran fine no problem with that. The service guy was kind of doing his job he couldnt be helpful in making any adjustments other than advising us we have to pay more for getting what I thought I ordered for and prepaid for. I will tell my friends not to order the car with Avis and dont pre-pay it. Because that doesnt lock in any price at all.

Comment: Two different issues. First, my reserved vehicle (reserved a full month in advance) was not available. I was upgraded, at the same rate, to a larger SUV which ate more gas. I was in too much of a hurry to wait for anything else. Once on my trip I experienced a tire going flat. I called for help but the numbers listed on my paperwork were only to extend my rental. I had to take care of it myself. Have always used Hertz and Enterprise and was only trying Avis because of our corporate agreement (ADT). Had same issue with Enterprise rental and they handled quickly and professionally. Very poor experience with Avis. I doubt Ill use Avis again.

We are open until 4 AM.After changing 4 flights and flying across the entire continental US, I have finally arrived in Fresno just to find that Avis is, in fact, NOT open until 4 am at this location. Unapologetic, uncaring.I will never, ever, so help me GOD, trust this company again.I joked prior to arriving that Ive had worse! They created a new member ID for me and let me know that I can plug that in when reserving a car online to have everything printed ahead of time and speed up the pick up process. Returns are quick and easy here too--Ive rented from them a few times, and it always takes just a minute or two to complete the return and be on your way.

Comment: When my family and I rented the car, we had no problems and enjoyed our experience. Once I realized that I had left my wallet in the vehicle, Avis did absolutely nothing for me. I even spent two hours waiting on the Friday that the vehicle was due back to have Bryan or Brian however you spell his name, flat out refuse to look the car up for me to see if it had been returned or not. Mind you, I waited until nobody was in line so that I didnt disrupt business for them and he still flat out refused to assist me when I asked if he could just check in the computer and give me an update as to what was going on with the vehicle. I will never do business with Avis again because of this one associate. I mean, why would he not take 2 minutes to give me, the customer who is out a wallet and who had been waiting 2 hours a little update so that I could move forward in trying to get my wallet back! Horrible service...
