This was the most unprofessional location I have ever seen. Where do I begin? I could start with the White Denali that was missing the rims and tires or my Rent car had warning lights on from the low tire pressure. I ask could I receive some air and was told its just does that sometimes. Or the fact that they have no key return box for every Airport departures. Or the fact they NEVER answer the phone. I had to leave the keys under the seat to return the car so I could make my flight. I would have returned the car to the Airport location 7 miles up the street but I was told Ill be charged $700 extra for a one way rental.
Didnt have car I reserved. Had to get a full size. Gave me a car with 1/4 tank of gas and service light was on. Battery light blinking saying it needed to be charged. Was made to return the car to the airport since Livonia closed shortly after I got the car. I was on the phone with support for 2 hours to resolve the issue and get a refund. DTW team was extremely helpful in resolving the situation. First time Ive had a problem with Avis. Returning the vehicle I got from the airport will be the last time I visit the Livonia Branch.
Where to start. I rented a standard car as a preferred member with this location for 4 days. The first am on the highway, the car would not accelerate past 50mph and the engine light was on. Within a min or two it slowly recovered. The car also reeked of Marijuana and was never cleaned. I realized this after picking up my fiance who worked narcotics. Upon inspectiom there was obvious remnants of Marijuana in the backseat. I called for a replacement car, but the owner stated he didnt have a car and Id have to go to the airport. With the engine light still on, I attempted to drive again othe next day. While getting on the highway, the car wouldnt go above 45. At this point I called the Avis owner and was told again, go to the airport. Its taken me the 30 min drive, an hour at the very busy counter, and then finally I was given a replacement. On leaving, I was given the wrong contact and car. Back to the counter. I wouldnt recommend Avis.
Pros: staff was niceCons: Car was barely cleaned. I had to wipe down the car myself the same as I picked it up. Dash/controls were not clean, windshield was dirty. Staff couldn’t offer a car to exchange in the same car class, which was shocking considering the number of vehicles in the lot - they just wanted me to pay for an upgrade
This place is a scam stay away!!!!I rented an intermediate car through my Concur account at work. The vehicle was for business trip and I was given a corporate rate of $34 a day for 2 days. When I picked up the car I was given what I thought was an economy car (Kia soul). I didnt say anything as it was brand new and didnt want the hassle. My trip didnt take as long as originally expected, so I returned the vehicle a day early. When dropped the keys off I asked for a receipt and to charge the vehicle to the card on file. Without a word I had my receipt and I was on my way.....so I thought. When examining the receipt I was charged $383.99 far off the daily rate of $34. Storming back in furious I asked why I was charged so much and showed the rental agreement that stated the $34 a day. It was explained to me because I turned the car in early I lost my discounts. I asked for a refund and the keys to the vehicle, so I can turn it back in the next day with the discounts. The attendant refused stating the vehicle is back in the Avis system and I would have to re-rent the vehicle again if I wanted it back. He informed me if I had an issue with how much I was charged to call the 1-800 number. Upon calling the 1-800 number I was informed the system defaulted to the original rate of $299.99 when I returned my vehicle in early. I informed them their rental agreement states a daily rate of $34 and that it shouldnt matter what day the vehicle was turned in by. The best they could do was charge me $50.70 and issue a refund for the difference. I excepted the new rate spending enough time arguing with them. After receiving the new receipt, the receipt itself says a daily rate of $34, but I was charged mileage instead for $50.70. The franchise owner of this store is out to screw you and the company itself is also out to screw you. Stay away if you can, if not expect to pay more the your agreement states. First and last time I will rent through this company.
UPDATE: STILL NO REFUND WELL PAST A MONTH!!! Id say stay away from any AVIS rental place! They are scams and lie!!I rented a full size car because I need the extra space in the trunk. There was only one person working and when he finally was able to wait on me and get me the rental car, it was smaller than I thought it should be. I asked him if he was sure this was a full size car I rented online through Costco. He assured me it was. I asked 2 times and he assured me it was. I was still not convinced so when I got home I contacted Costco and she gave me the website for Avis that shows what cars are in which category (intermediate, standard, full, etc.). He DID NOT give me a full size car, rather an intermediate! I went back and told him and he said he would change the difference in price when I returned the car. I returned the car today and not only did he NOT change the price, he raised it! He said his system was messing up and he couldnt fix it and I have to call the 1-800 number! On a side note also: I cant prove this, but Im pretty sure he rented me a car that a woman just dropped back off when I was there. I pulled in next to it when I got there (red car w/ OH plates) and while I waiting my turn, he told her she could go and he moved the car to the back and then brought it out to me about 10 minutes later! So, that meant it wasnt cleaned or even checked out before he rented it to me! Needless to say, I wont go back for all the hassles. Now I get to call the 800 # and try to get my price adjusted!
I personally want to thank Abdul and Hassan for their professionalism and their outstanding customer service to me. I rent cars monthly (for business) from different locations (secret shopper). When I spoke to Abdul on the phone, he was polite and courteous. He provided me my quote and the size of vehicle to expect. When I arrived, my vehicle was clean, freshly washed and filled with gas. It was closing time, yet Abdul had patient and he gave me an option if I wanted to upgrade or not. Hassan was working with him and kept going back and forth to see what car for upgrade was available for me and now it is after 6:00pm yet they never rushed me or lost their politeness. I was very impressed how they did their best to try and satisfy me. They kept me laughing and smiling while they were assisting me. It felt great to have experience their kindness and to be treated as if I was a dignitary or sort. Well thank you both and continue to give all of your customers the same VIP treatment as you have given me. Much appreciated! I will be back.
Walk in and the staff had know masks on!I made it a point to ask if the car was COVID sanitized. THEY YES IT WAS!(a complete lie!)Got in the car, open the door and the smell was horrendous and the car was filthy. I mean filthy! The passenger mirror was cracked down the middle.I started headed for my destination and called them said I was wanted another car and not to mention i had issues with the key. Went back they did nothing. Acted like I was taking up there time.We had to sanitized the rent a car ourselves! One the way back from Indiana the service light came on.We have a very successful business in Livonia, Mi its success is because our customer service is number 1 for us.Guess Avis doesnt believe in that way of thinking for the clients!We will stay with Enterprise if we ever need to rent a car again.
Second time in 3 weeks they didnt have a car to give me even though I had a reservation. In the latest instance, the staff at this location told me to go get a car from the Avis at Detroit Airport and said my existing reservation and pricing would be honored. The Avis at the airport did eventually give me a car but I had to talk to the manager and they charged me additional fees. When I returned the car at this location, they refused to refund the additional fees that were charged because these people didnt have a car for me. I am hoping Avis corporate will refund the additional fees. This location is always relying on on people returning their rentals so they can fulfill other reservations. Save your time, money and hassle - just book from the airport.
RUN FROM AVIS! Absolutely Terrible! Reserved a vehicle, showed up to PU and the car.After waiting a half hour in the lobby with no assistance I got the vehicle, it was filthy, especially on the interior of the vehicle. The guy at the counter said it only has 5/8 full tank, just return it with the same. What? I had to clean the inside of the windshield just to drive the car. On my way to return the vehicle I ran into a traffic jam that was going to put me behind schedule. I called their office to inform them and was put on hold for 10 minutes until the system hung up on me. I called back, again same thing. Third call I refused to be put on hold and told them that I was running behind. For being 30 minutes late I was charged $196.36! I have contacted Avis corporate and am currently being told that they can discount that by 30% (case# 27434706). I told them that this is unacceptable and that I would like to speak to a supervisor. They told me they would call me back with 48 hrs. Are you kidding! This has become a matter of principle for me at this point. I will come back to update this post as the situation evolves. RUN FROM AVIS!
Terrible service with the man named Cal. Called to say we would be late, was told it was okay, then he gave away our car but said we could get a different one. There was an extra 200 dollar fee (not for the dif car tho) and because the person who was over 25 didn’t have the extra, he tried to charge us even more for me being younger even though I wasn’t driving. Continued to be rude, then gave away the other car he promised us while we were sitting right there trying to figure out the money situation.Also- he said he would not give us the veterans discount because we were “already getting a discount.” The only reason we would have got a discount is because they gave away the car we reserved and weren’t going to charge us extra for the diff car.
The absolute best customer service. The young man behind the counter was so sweet. They were out of cars due to an event and family vacations. He was answering a non-stop ringing phone and waiting on each customer. Patience even when others would have none. I dropped off the SUV today and he was there still smiling.
Go anywhere but here! This is the most horrible place to work with!! After renting a car, I called them on the day I was due to return the car, letting them know I was going to bring it back a few hours late. When he told me how much it was going to be, it was almost half of the price I paid for three days! For only 6 hours! I asked him why and he put me on hold for 20 minutes so I hung up and called again, and he immediately put me on hold for another 10. I called from a different number because I knew he was purposely avoiding me, and he answered the phone and asked how he could help me! He is such a liar and will nickel and dime you as long as he can. His receipts show nothing and the truck it was DIRTY, inside and out.
I will never use this company or this location EVER AGAIN.To start I had placed my order online and had it paid for. Once I arrived they couldnt find my order so they redid it, charging more than I had originally gotten from the internet price. They said there was nothing they could do. At that point I just needed to get on the road so I paid the extra (nearly 100 more) and left. I asked where I could leave my truck for the weekend and was on my way. Once on the road the car was junk, even for a rental. Nothing to dramatic but it was a very clunky beater of a car that had obviously been smoked in and recently. Once I returned from my trip I went to drop it off before work. The woman behind the counter was obviously in no hurry to help me. After rudely checking my vehicle back in and telling me if I ever parked in the area I had parked again (where they told me to leave my vehicle) she would have me towed. After explaining that they told me to park there she basically called me a liar and said it didnt matter and that I was lucky she was in a good mood. One of the most unpleasant people Ive dealt with. about 60 days after I returned the vehicle I received a letter from a collection agency saying I damaged the vehicle. There was no information about the damage such as a description or pictures or an invoice from the repairs, nothing. Turns out that AVIS has a history of sending out false claims. I am currently fighting this claim since I turned the vehicle in exactly the same as I received it.I am struggling to think of anything decent to say about this company or location. I guess its in a convenient place? Honestly Id rather pay twice as much to avoid this place. I will never use AVIS rental car again.
Since the new management took over the service has been terriable. Cars not cleaned properly and most times the staff is only 1 person. Also the agent upsales you for insurance but fails to tell you most credit cards carry coverage for rental cars up to 50,000 and has their own road service and accident number to call. This location is struggling to provide service that represents AVIS the reason being its independently owned and the Avis standards are being disregarded. They do allow you to leave your vehicle on grounds and use the drop box depending on your customer status. Trucks are never availableAs the reservation is still made. The only reason i gave 1 star is because you have to to leave review.
I know this place has had a few bad reviews recently, but honestly, I’ve rented from this location about 4 different times this summer and have had good experiences each time. There was one time that the shop wasn’t open on a Sunday 1 hour after their stated opening time, but I guess it was because a staff member overslept (he probably got fired after that), but either way, the manager came in himself to open the store and take care of the line of angry customers. Kudos to him. Other than that small blip, each time I’ve rented have been positive. I rent from here rather from the airport because it’s so much cheaper, even when you calculate the round-trip Lyft cost. Those airport taxes and fees are insane!
Wish I could give them NEGATIVE 10 STARS!Crooked, lying, dirty, rude, mean. They cussed out my wife for a screwup on theyre part. Didnt have the vehicle ready @ the reservation time even though it was scheduled a week in advance. Didnt have to courtesy to call and say that the vehicle wasnt in or ready even when they knew the day before. When the vehicle was returned it was just put out front for the next renter, NEVER CLEANED. That would explain why it was dirty when my wife picked it up. Will never rent from this location again and strongly recommend the same to everybody else. When I tried to ask them about the way my wife was treated upon picking it up the gentleman behind the counter got rude and told me that he wasnt going to discuss this.
AVOID THIS AVIS LOCATION!!!!!I would give this Avis Rental Car location 0 stars if it allowed.I originally rented my car from the Detroit Airport Avis location which is corporate owned. This location is independently owned and does not abide by the Avis corporate rules & regulations.I received a damaged car from the airport Avis, and when calling Roadside Hotline, they told me to go to the nearest Livonia location to exchange the car. When I pulled up into this location, the lady, Marylou denied my car exchange. She said that she could not take this car in this condition nor does she have a car to exchange it with. I then called Roadside again, and they spoke to Marylou directly, and she claimed that she was the Manager of the location and again denied the exchange of the car. Roadside reported her to corporate for her indecency and rejection to exchange the car rental. Roadside Assistance had to call managers to speak to their real store Manager, Jim, and FINALLY let me exchange the damaged car.The entire exchange process was terribly unbelievable. Their system kept crashing while trying to juggle multiple customers at once. The second person over the counter, Joe was useless. All he did was stand there and shook his head. He didnt bother to help me or other customers waiting. The most he did was take returned keys and checked the mileage/gas. Joe and Marylou clearly have a non-working relationship going on.After spending 1 hour just to get this situation cleared, they gave me a car that was dirty with bird poop, and mirrors had water marks.Marylou and Joe are really bitter people who clearly hate their job and people.Avis Custom Service also refused to give me any to compensation for the inconvenience and safety of my life. 1 day off a rental and a coupon...yay....
The most helpful staff ever... Hassan was very professional, knowledgeable and was able to find me a rental car right away... after a bad experience at another rental company I was relieved to finally find someone that knows how to do the job right!I highly recommend this office!
I was in a bind because my flight from Detroit Metro was canceled and that’s where I originally picked up my rental vehicle. I wanted to just drive the same rental vehicle to my destination and was told that I could only do this by paying a relocation amount for thie one-way rental that was more than it cost to rent the vehicle! The closest Avis location was this one in Livonia and I called and spoke with Hassan. He was really helpful and said he would be able to swap my vehicle for another to do the one-way rental, without all of the extra charges, etc. When I got there he and Abdul were very friendly and eager to help and in fact I ended up taking the same car to my destination! Thanks to Hassan and Abdul! I would use this Avis location again.
I will never rent from this location again! The staff seemed friendly in the beginning but I had a terrible experience. The communication was terrible and I was over charged. When asked about the overcharge they told me that I had to call customer service but because I walked in instead of making a reservation, customer service couldn’t track any payments so they couldn’t help me. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
When I arrived, ten minutes past my “pickup time”, they told me they gave my call away and could only give me one a much higher rate. The owner spoke to me in demeaning manner which was meant to intimidate me. As a professional woman, I am sadly used to speaking with garbage people like him. Stay away!
This is the best Avis as far as fast service and always has and Accommodated my every need and want I would suggest that if you want good service great prices and a friendly Atmosphere this is the place to go and the cars are great clean and well taken care of if I could give this location 10 stars I would thanks for the great service and I will always rent threw you and will advise friends and family
Not happy with service. Tire pressure low indicator at pick up. Fuel was half tank but agreement showed full tank.A dent on the front right corner marked but without description of dent. This caused problems at destination dropHad booked standard suv like Ford Edge. The only car available was much smaller. They said they had no other availability even at an upgraded price. Very dissapponted

2022-08-10If I could put zero stars, I would. This place is awful. The car that I rented was absolutely disgusting. It smelled VERY strong like cigarettes and weed. There was glitter all over the car. There were feet marks on the dash, and finger prints everywhere. The outside of the car was filthy. The car was at 1/4 tank, and the girl argued that it was at 3/4 tank. I had to point out everything that was wrong with the car, the girl that filled out the damage sheet didnt mention anything was wrong with it initially. Never, ever again!

2022-06-29TERRIBLE location! Do not ever go here!!!This is the worst run car rental agency I have ever dealt with before. I called their office 3 times today to let them know I was going to be picking up the car 2 hours later than originally planned, but the phone just rang and rang and nobody ever answered any of the times.I assumed it’d be okay anyway when I arrived since I had already pre-paid for the reservation in full. When I got there, they had given the car away because I was 30 minutes past my reservation time. When I told them I had tried calling 3 times to let them know and nobody would answer the phone, they said “I’m only one person.” Fine, but why give away cars that have fully pre-paid reservations when you know you’ve had multiple missed calls today and it’s probably people with reservations calling. Meanwhile, you’re giving away the cars that the people trying to call you had reserved. Unbelievable.To top it off, you can’t get through to the 800 number because their phone lines are down. And, they can’t refund your reservation at the agency location, so you’re out of luck.Such a joke of an office and a joke of a company. You’ve been warned.

2022-08-14Extremely bad service and lack of professionalism from the staff. Did not care about the Customer. Overcharged me for a vehicle reservation they did not honor and gave me a more expensive one to pay with dirty interiors, broken wiper rubber blades and dents in the vehicle (plus no gas in the tank). Extra charges for services you don’t need and they don’t ask you upfront. Only one agent with no knowledge and decision making (she relies on some chat to talk to the supervisor who is available). After a week I am still waiting for their call to follow up on the extra charges and vehicle overcharge. Will not recommend this location at all.

2022-08-15Had a very good customer service experience here from start to finish. The car I received was a different story. Interior was filthy. Washer fluid was empty. Bumper was cracked & hanging. Alignment was way off.

2022-07-27I showed up to pick up my reservation and they had no cars. I understand this happens, but the woman at the front desk proceeded to ignore me instead of trying to help me find a car.If I have a reservation and there are no cars, at least have the courtesy to call? Idk.

2022-05-25Do not ever go to them. I repeat don’t ever go to them. They will take money out your account and claim they were extra fees from out of nowhere. The manager is also terrible. Never had I ever had to go to the BBB in file a complaint. It was a never awful experience and I wouldn’t recommend it on my worst enemy.

2022-06-08A friend prepaid for a 3 day rental while her car was in for repairs. They finished her car early so she wanted to turn the car in early but they said she could but since she prepaid she wouldnt get a refund!!!!

2017-09-26First time with Avis, in a while.The airport office directed me to a row/car that didnt exist, so I hadta go back to the office and have them take me to the car.Its not red, not in row S, and not space 16.My car had an issue with its key not communicating with it, consistently.Since it was a 10-day rental - It seemed best to exchange it.They offered to swap it out, so I drove in and got another, slightly smaller vehicle.I appreciated the service, and Weston on the phone, his assistance was great.Mary Lou at the Livonia office took care of me, but was not fully convinced of the problem... Until the lot guy had the same results.Overall, a decent experience... So far.

2021-12-22I absolutely would not by any means recommend this location or Avis at all. I paid in full for a rental vehicle. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle they had only one vehicle left which was a more expensive option than I had chosen. I then asked how I could get a refund and was given a phone number to call for the refund and I wont get my money for 3-10 business days.
