The trail through the woods is fantastic! Great views the entire hike. If you do the entire loop you should allow yourself at least an hour. Steep uphills and downhills with exposed roots, so watch your step! The view of Lake Superior and the beach at the mouth of Black Creek makes it all worthwhile.
One of the most beautiful 2 mile hikes I have been on.....and I saw my first Pileated Woodpecker just above my head.....STUNNING! And the bonus was ending up at what was a huge private beach for beach combing. Love the intimate nature of the trail and twisting and turning, steep creekside views. The signage is very clear and well marked.
Astounding beach, once you hike in along the 2+ mile trail! One of my favorite places to visit. The trail is kinda long and winding and no longer loops at the end when the bridge got washed out. However, once you meet the lake it is quite wide and has rocks, sand, and plenty of space to spread out to enjoy yourself.
Mixed feelings about this. I remember when I was free to ride my old Yamaha Enduro down to the beach through this land. Cerebrally, I know this is better for everyone, to be able to share this beautiful place, without the beer cans, and toilet paper everywhere. Still, I have nostalgia, for how truly wild it used to feel.My advice, get you butt down onto the trail, take your water shoes and bug dope, and go look at something the rest of the world is only seeing in virtual reality.

2022-06-25We took the superior trail to very nice rock beach. Fairly strenuous at times. Roots to trip on but also act as steps. Poison possibly sumac along sections of trail. Lots of very pretty rocks on beach, very few people when we were there.

2021-07-0436 minute walk from the small parking lot to vast beach! Need to be in good physical condition to manage the trails few steep areas, navigating the tree roots that serve as steps on very narrow sections of the path. Saw kids about 7 years old, folks in their seventies as well as a couple of dogs...so most people should be capable to make it there and back with confidence.

2022-06-01A nice, not to long of a hike, to the shoreline of Lake Superior! A decent spot for agate hunters.

2020-08-31One of the best trails i have been to. The end of the trail is a beautiful beach full of crazy stones. If you go at the right time, you can have the whole beach to yourself. No waves and still water feels calm and peaceful. Good place of you plan to camp here.

2021-10-05Fave hike in the area. Some very brief steep stints might pose a problem for people with severe mobility issues, but overall pretty accessible hike.

2018-05-24Easy trail. Well marked by Blue Diamonds. By taking the main trail and shooting for the Superior Trail (Yellow) it is 1.5 miles out to the beach. On the Superior Trail, part of it has eroded away as it edges along the creek. Also, only 6 miles from Calumet Township and going out mid week should place you as the only person out there.

2020-12-29First time visitor. 100% totally worth the drive even in winter. Great for hiking and trail running. So pleased to have visited during winter. Quiet. Peaceful. Trail markings are superb.

2021-07-25Great place to visit if you are interested in a quiet and secluded beach day! While it does take about 40 minutes to hike to the beach, it is well worth the gorgeous Lake Superior views! The beach has some sand near the top but close to the water it is larger pebbles. Not sure what other days are like, but the waves were huge today and it seemed like there was an undertoe so we avoided going more than knee deep in the water. No bathroom.
