Their fish are very well taken care of in very nice conditions. If they have anything that they think could be sick they are put in quarantine tanks and taking care of. They also had a very good selection of freshwater fish and if they didnt have anything they would order it for you on their next order and you didnt have to pay until pickup. The employees are very helpful and very friendly. They really seem to know a lot about fish.
The staff is amazingly helpful for ALL of your freshwater, saltwater, and reptile needs!! They will walk you through every detail of getting your tank set up and cycled. They will test your water for free. They have a great selection of livestock, aquarium plants, tank decor, and a section for your furry baby. Patty and Taylor are A+++
A nice store for those looking for all that is involved with the hobby of tanking. I would say the one star deduction is for the lack of knowledge by staff. I have had better luck researching needed info on my own then getting quality answers from the staff. Now dont get me wrong staff is friendly and willing to help. You should do your do diligence in being informed prior to making any purchases anyways.
With so few good quality aquarium shops around these days. Its great to have Blue Fish here. Huge selection of fish both fresh and salt. Same goes for live plants. The staff is top notch, none of the, let me find someone routine. If you have questions, they have the answers!
Wow, this has got to be the best all around Pet store in the state of Michigan. Saltwater and freshwater fish and supplies, freshwater shrimp ( many varieties), reptiles and supplies. Prices are great and staff is very, very knowledgeable, friendly, and caring about your experience in their store. Put this one on your bucket list.
The associate that helped me today was amazing! She was extremely knowledgeable about my fish and the issues they were having, offered several solutions so we could choose one that would be best for us and the fishes, and was completely non-judgmental about our lack of knowledge. Im never going back to a regular pet store after this amazing experience!
This place has an amazing variety of fish and reptiles. Every time I visit blue fish it is a wonderful experience. All of the staff that I have delt with are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. If you have specific fish you are looking for but they do not have them in stock topically the staff will put you on a wait list.
This is the nicest aquarium/reptile shop Ive ever been too. So clean and organized. Beautiful display tanks with the fish, etc. in them. They take covid restrictions very seriously. You may have to wait if the section you want to look in is at people capacity. We waited 5 minutes in the car and they called us when there was space. I went for snails and they all looked very healthy with beautiful shells. Knowledgeable staff. Im impressed.
After being referred here for reptile lights, I got way more than I bargained for...A rep there took time to explain exactly what my bearded dragon would benefit from in a light, and even gave me tips for his diet. My lizard has been thriving ever since, and I got valuable knowledge. Would highly recommend!
This store is amazing! I dont have any aquarium stores near by, so I came to this one, because it had really good reviews! It wasnt surprising that I had an amazing experience. 3 separate staff members helped me, one short haired brunnette woman in particular. She was so sweet. I, sadly, never asked her name, but she did tell me she has a fish named Mr. Banjo, so if yall read your reviews, thank you for all of your patience and help! This was my first time setting up an aquarium with more than one fish so I had a ridiculous amount of questions and they gladly answered them all! I successfully got my first aquarium set up thanks to them with a bunch of healthy fish, because the big chain pet stores do not take care of their fish the way these people do!They have such a wide variety of not only fish but plants, tank decorations, food, and cleaning equipment/supplies.And I am very appreciative of the safety precautions they take for COVID, unlike others who have negatively reviewed them simply for following the mask mandate, causing their ratings to go down for no reason. This is something they have no control over so they shouldnt be reprimanded for it! Plus I appreciated the extra space.I greatly appreciate yall and will certainly come back for anything I need for my aquarium!Yall are amazing! Thank you so much!
Love this place. It was our first visit here and I was very impressed with it. They have a great selection of fish and supplies and are also very knowledgeable. We were able to bring in a fish for a trade situation that wasnt working out in our tanks which was also great. Very friendly and helpful staff also.
This place is AMAZING! I can’t believe I’ve never been there before. The staff was so amazing and helpful and answered all of my questions. I spoke with Damon quite a bit and he was so awesome and really helpful. This place is so cool to walk through that honestly even if you’re not planning on getting a fish or reptile it’d be a nice trip to just walk through there for a couple hours and look at everything. Thanks for the great service! :)
Almost always.somewhat crowded, perhaps.because they dont open until noon. The Reptile Specialists, Pat and Damon, are awesome and know what they are doing. Pat helped me solve an ongoing eating problem with my bearded dragon. Shes all about keeping the critters happy and healthy.
I stopped in to checkout aquariums, and found myself a little put off. A young man behind the counter seemed very unconcerned with my business. Almost as if I was bothering him. He put zero effort in selling me on a particular tank I was interested in. It was just over $500 and I decided to pass literally because of the employees disinterest in my business. Step out from behind the counter, and sell me for crying out loud. Sorry I interrupted your me time.
Great selection of fish, good prices, perfect place to come get inspired.Unfortunately I have gotten mixed information from staff. It really depends who you talk too. They are pretty covid safe. But the store is very tight and its hard if you want to look in multiple departments.Deffently worth stopping in!
Shameful that this company would turn away paying customers who choose to not wear a mask or cannot wear a mask due to health reasons. Not everyone is made the same. This company should give their customers the choice instead of forcing their will onto them. I now feel like a second-class citizen. This is no different than turning me away because I dont have the right skin color. Instead of supporting a local business I had to take my money to a big box store that wouldnt turn me away. This horrible policy will ultimately hurt the business more than it hurts me.
I was beyond pleased to see that they are requiring masks and keeping the door literally locked to those without, who are being willfully ignorant during the pandemic.Thank you for the precautions for your employees and customers! They have a great selection of products & healthy fish, plus a friendly and knowledgeable staff. One time someone even took the time to explain to me how to build a flow restricting valve for my pump, what parts I needed, and where to go get them.Keep it up, and Ill keep shopping there for all my aquarium needs.
I’ve been there twice now and can’t say enough about how great the selection is and how helpful the staff is. However, with covid they only allow so many folks in the store at a time (which I can completely understand). My first visit I waited about 15 mins, which I would consider an acceptable wait. The second visit, I was told 15-20 mins but waited almost an hour. I probably would have left and come back but we drove about 30 mins to get there. I will definitely go back but might stick to my local fish store until the pandemic clears up.
Great selection of guppies, shrimp, snails, plants, turtle stuff, and fish supplies i haven’t seen elsewhere. Fish and plants looked healthy. Staff was helpful. My only complaints are that the limit on people (COVID restrictions) in the store and line outside kinda makes u feel rushed. It’d also be nice if they had bigger tanks for the bettas even 2 gals. But besides that it is a great place
Cool place. Good prices. Staff was kinda rude. One guys was awesome but when we said we wanted to purchase a tank, the girl helping told us to grab it, as we were walking up, holding a big tank, we got yelled at for “cutting” in line and the girl helping us started helping a new customer and told us to wait while the guy came in and helped us. Ridiculous that when we were being helped first, she dropped us and made us wait.
If your looking for fish this is the place to go in Grand Rapids. They have a huge selection of fresh and salt water fish available. Along with tanks and decorations.Reason for the 3 stars is because the aquatic plants from here are contaminated with snails (trumpet snails) which will spike ph and ammonia. Plus they reproduce like crazy!Edited 2/24/21 Before buying the fish in the store, make sure to look up the fish and compare the colors. I bought some ember tetras for there nice orange body. The ones that i bought were transparent when i got them with a little orange on there tails. I acclimated the fish before putting them in the tank. Couple days went by and they are still transparent. Either they sold me the wrong fish or the quality of fish are not as good as the reviews say they are.
They have so many different salt water fish, corral, and fresh water fish, and reptiles its alot more than normal store would have!! We went inside and a gentleman helped us get everything we needed to set up a 65-gallon salt water tank! From the tank down to the water and stand for it. We r so glad to have what we got from there!! Thanks so much everyone at Blue Fish Aquarium you were so awesome!!!!!
The only place I go now for any fish supply, or livestock. Wide variety, easy store navigation and pretty much any and everything you need aquarium wise. Also have some supply for your puppers and meowers! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful and super knowledgeable on pets, supplies, waters and treatments ect. Open Monday-Sunday. Limited people in store at a time you can wait outside in line or get put on a call list and wait in your car. Ive never waited more than 10 minutes and frankly you can blame covid for the wait times. Store is always clean and organized. Highly recommend shopping here for your swimmer friends and aquatic needs!
They have a knowledgeable staff as well as a decent variety of reptiles and fish! When I was last there they were very helpful not pushy to make a sale witch is important to me! My only reason for 4☆ is because they are VERY pricey! Seems that aquariums and habitats and what not is marked quite high! But with that said I would definitely recommend Blue Fish to anyone interested in snakes, fish etc just be prepared of costs!
Great pet store of animals that live in glass cages. They have some cat and dog stuff as well but I dont go in for that. The freshwater fish collection is great as are freshwater plants and supplies. The reptiles and amphibians are nice. The saltwater fish collection is great as well. Although I feel like lately the number of corals have been down. This place doesnt carry small furry animals.
We had to wait 30 minutes to get inside due to social distancing, which I understand. We specifically wanted the reptile department to look at the turtles. We found a tortise we were going to put our names down on a wait list for, but one of the employees asked if we needed help and when my daughter and I answered we were all set she informed us we have other people waiting so if youre just browsing keep that in mind. Since we waited for 30 minutes we should have been able to spend at least 15 looking at the department!!The employees were all grouped together, no one was even at the register to give our information to. Would not waste my time in line to be treated like that again.
The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Prices were on par for a local specialty shop, and I have no issue supporting just that. This is my new go to for all things aquatic! Of course they also have exotic reptiles and spiders, and was the only store that had turtle stone substrate. Their product selection is the most eclectic Ive seen. Thanks Blue Fish Aquarium!
What a great place!!! It’s well stocked and the employees are super nice, friendly and knowledgeable in everything... the girl that helped us, unfortunately i forgot her name, said she’s been there 5 years and could not have been more helpful... i will be back often for my fish and aquarium needs.
Largest selection Ive seen in West Michigan. Hundreds of fish species and excellent customer service. Im amazed at how knowledgeable the staff is about each fish, plant, product, and the many elements which go into a healthy tank. A great place to learn and be inspired. If Im looking for something they dont have, they can order it for me or offer to help find it.
Employees are knowledgeable and if they are busy then youll have to wait a little bit to be assisted but they are very good at getting to you when its your turn. The prices here are more fair than other places in town but still more expensive than online. They have a large variety of livestock and they have saltwater equipment/livestock for sale here unlike other stores. 9/10 will continue giving them my business.
Unbelievable customer service. I was having a major issue with my 120 gallon tank and I contacted them. They promptly got back to me and within days I had a replacement tank. They put the customer first. In today’s modern corporate culture of policies and procedures this is a breath of fresh air! The owner is great and personable. I am a life long loyal customer!
Very pretty! Fish and other animals were curious and lively. Im not a professional nor a hobbyist, so I cant vouch for the condition of the tanks - but nothing seemed wrong from a first glance. Everything is carefully labelled and the staff is usually around to answer questions or provide conversation about the animals. Got to see a chameleon feeding by absolute chance. Wonderful place!
I’ve had mixed experiences with Blue Fish. The employees have, for the most part, been friendly and helpful. They have decent prices for most products and a great selection of reptile supplies. They have a small selection of dog stuff, but what they do have is high quality. I’m surprised and impressed at their selection especially since they specialize in aquariums. I was a bit disappointed to see lettuce (not one of the many recommended dark greens) being fed to their juvenile bearded dragons, as well as sand in the enclosure, as these are both inapporpriate care for these lizards (especially as babies, because it puts them at risk of impaction which is deadly).
Ive been shopping at Blue Fish since they moved to their Wilson location, so thats quit a few years now. I will say that they are a great store overall. Im giving them one star because of my experience there last Saturday. I went in just after 5pm to get drift wood and a plant I picked out my drift wood then started looking for help for a fish tank plant. I looked for about ten minutes and couldnt find any one free to help me so I walked up to the register and waited in line for another ten minutes. They were busy so I wasnt too offended by the wait. When it was my turn I asked for help getting a plant to rubber band to the drift wood (so it would attach itself to the wood over time). The woman at the register said that she didnt know how to do that, but I was in luck because the guy in charge (the manager or owner or something) was standing there. I asked him for help and he told me that they were to busy to help me and that I would have to come back another day. I waited twenty minutes for help just to be denied service. Im not sure why its so much work to put a rubber band around a small piece of wood and not around a bag of fish but I am sure that I will not be returning to that store.
This store is so awesome. So many different species of fish, it was awesome. Great pricing, and we love their trade in program! The only reason I knocked one star off is because we were told Endler Livebearers were friendly with Guppies, which they are, but not advised that they will breed and create very weak and sickly offspring. We found that out through Google. Well be back for sure!
This place is great! We have no prior fish experience and Tyler was very helpful when we went to buy fish for our new freshwater tank. He and the rest of the staff go above and beyond to make sure customers know how best to care for their fish. We will definitely be going back!
Absolutely love this place, come here for all my aquarium needs. Great, wide selection at great prices. Everything you need. Amazingly helpful staff. I try to go as much as possible!Edit: made my first post about them almost 3 years ago, still upheld. Extremely knowledgable and personable staff. Very lucky to have such a great store near by.
Connor helped me get a couple cichlids the other day, he was very knowledgeable of compatible species and gave some suggestions on rocks and substrate that would suit the fish well. very good experience, very good employee. Collin offered fantastic advice in the salt water department and encouraged me that setting up a salt water tank is not as difficult as it seems.
Beautiful store. Im the fish person in my family but they are still impressed. Some of the employees have a great talent in aquascaping. Everyone is very helpful and very knowledgeable. They also have a good selection of exotic reptiles. They care more about the animals then the profits, which is how all pet stores should be like. Over all, it is my favorite pet store yet!
This place is awesome! While they do have some supplies available for reptilian and mammalian friends, the focus is definitely on our fishy friends. They have a huge variety of fish to choose from, and all the supplies you might need to care for them. They have a fair refund policy if a fish dies within the first week after purchase, and they have limitations on what they will sell in order to insure the healthiness of their fishies. And, for what it is worth, their fish all honestly seemed happy.
The one and only place to purchase fish, plants, and ANY other aquatic supplies. Great staff and fish. I personally love the new setup and love the direction the store is heading. They also have reptiles if you are interested. If youre in a rush for time dont expect to get in and out quickly.
After being on the call list for close to a year for a fish I have to give up on this place. I had been called once that my order was in, I went to pick it up and they had sold it to a different customer. Since then Ive been in and have seen the type of fish for sale twice with holds for other customers.Extremely helpful in helping me plan the needs of a fish. Even though they were out of stock of what I needed, they were able to get me the dates things would be in and still get my plan going.
A great new facility for a great business. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They have a significant and varied selection of fish / aquarium related products. They have many unique selections as well. The facility is very clean and presented well. The aquariums are always very clean and the animals in great condition.I would highly recommend this business to any fish / reptile lover.
This is by far my go to aquarium store. They have the best selection as far as I know. Most of the employees know the bare bones of aquarium set up info and there are a few that I go to if I need specialty info because they are quite knowledgeable. They also let me bring my Dane there and he absolutely swoons over all of the attention he gets from not only staff but customers! I have spent so much money in this place!
One of the best aquarium stores in the west michigan area that i have found, they generally have all of the specialized equipment, substrates, plants, fish, ect. that i am looking for. The staff is friendly, helpfull and knowledgable. If your looking for something special they will order it for you
This store used to be so great. I used to come here since 2010. I was into ro whatever water tanks with their water and everything, loved my plants!. Last year I set up a salt wate tank and it was great with great service spent a lot there over the last year but haven’t been in in a while well i bought a fish two weeks ago and it died but when I come in they keep saying to talk to someone else I never get a straight answer everyone wants me to come back to talk to some girl I never seen!!! i wasted enoug time been in multiple times I won’t be back preusses pet in lansing would never do this or scan me out of my fish money big shame you think they want to keep what little customers they have left this virus really shows the difference between the two stores!!,
Good variety. The staff Ive been in contact with either dont know or dont care but their betta display is awful and stresses the fish. Betta prices are outrageous and the set up they reccomended was about 2 gallons smaller than the minimum amount required. Do your own research and know what you need before you go in.
Really like this place there is really no where else to go for fish or aquarium related items that compares. My only problem is that every time I go in they have yellow post it notes all over the aquariums that says the fish are spoken for. What about the people that drive 25 miles to buy fish and all I see is those annoying yellow notes all over that says the fish are spoken for. I even put my name on a list and have never gotten a call back. Not sure how this will keep me going back. The staff does know there stuff, I will give them that.
They should of gotten a 5 star but customer service is everything. The girls Monday through Friday, open until about 4pm get the 10 star! They are so helpful and awesome! But I bought a 26 gallon Fluval setup from them (on the weekend) and tried to add on to the lights (which come with the setup) and they know NOTHING about them. Which is fine but when you go talk to them for an hour and they take your phone and name so they can have a few days to research what you need and never call you back thats not right! In fact they have some of the nicest looking tanks, fish, corals, plants ect... They should of got a 5 star but when the top dog wont call you back or even come out of the back to help you... Again, customer service is everything. Especially when you buy your setup from them. I would of been happy if they called and said they didnt have a clue but no call isnt right. Id buy a different light considering I cant find bulbs anywhere for this light but I thought since they sold it they could at least order me another bulb.
This is our go to place for anything related to fish or reptiles. They really seem to know their stuff. Our last two visits we were helped by a very surly young man that made us feel like we were idiots for asking questions and taking up his precious time. Sorry pal - you may know you some stuff but that doesnt make you automatically better than us.Otherwise - I would highly recommend the place.
The setup is nice and there is a massive selection. The staff is knowledgable about the shear amount of tanks is a bit overwhelming. Unless you know what you are doing I recommend talking to the staff as fish are expensive and there is a lot of information to take in to take care of the fish, reptiles, or insects properly.
What an incredible store and staff. We have been traveling there from Muskegon at least once a month for a year now. They are one of the only places Ive gone that wont sell you something youre not ready for. They are BUSY, thats a good thing. We have never gone there and been in a hurry. Everyone deserves to be helped and theres enough entertainment to keep you occupied until its your turn. Keep up the good work!!!
I have been out of the aquarium hobby for 10 years but stopped in at Blue Fish Aquarium to look around. It renewed my interest in fishThey are well-stacked with supplies but are especially impressive with plants and the number and variety of fish for sale. They have a lot of good staff on hand too. Very helpful for me. I recommend.Blue Fish Aquarium highly.
Honestly I feel its the best aquarium store in the Grand Rapids area. Brackish, fresh, or salt water they got it. Need a more specific fish, they can aquire it. You can also find reptiles, amphibians, spiders, and scorpions. There is a newer section in the front devoted to dogs.
Have always enjoyed their store and selection. I have a 135 gallon tank with around 20 cichlids. I have had a large fish tank for 11 years.I bought 4 fish a week ago from them and one died within 24 hours. I called about their 7 day return policy and they said to bring the fish, receipt and water to be tested. The fish wasnt beaten up by other fish and the 3 other fish I bought are still alive and well. I drive an hour each way to come to this store. I have a filter meant for a much larger tank. I made all of this known and they tested my water and said it was off and that they couldn’t replace my fish. It seems to me that this water test is a scapegoat to ever replacing a fish or giving a refund. I just wanted another fish. Needless to say I will not be returning to Blue Fish Aquarium, ever. And I will make sure my fellow friends that enjoy fish aquariums will also know my experience.
We waited for 45 minutes when we were told 20-25 minutes and when we finally got in there was not one person besides the one worker in the freshwater section! They were letting people in for other departments that did NOT stay in that area! The way they are handling it is wrong! It should be so many people in the store not based on departments!!
Definitely the best aquarium around. Cant beat their selection and prices. They want to know what your putting in your tank and are very knowledgeable. They wont let you buy something your going to kill. I go here weekly for scape ideas and to see whats new in stock. To the guy who said you have to wait a half hour to get acknowledged, yes sometimes you dont always get asked if you need help right away and thats because their always packed. If its something as easy as pulling a fish out sometimes the salt water guys can do it too.
I live quite a distance from Blue Fish and there are other aquariums closer to me - but when it comes to purchasing my fish - Id rather drive the distance to Blue Fish for healthy stock.Their staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have a wide selection and if you havent been there in a while - drop by and check out their new African Cichlid room! Beautiful! If they dont have something in stock that Im interested in, theyve always been able to find it for me.Their fish are healthy, their tanks are kept clean and are tended by staff who know exactly what theyre doing to keep the fish healthy and happy.Unlike many other pet stores that sell aquatics, the staff at Blue Fish are well versed in the requirements for each fish & plant that they sell, as well as their equipment.I wont purchase live stock anywhere else - okay, with one exception of a tiger oscar and thats only because Im notoriously impatient :)
Blue Fish is the BEST place in Western Michigan for fish of all kinds. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, the fish are very well cared for and your satisfaction with them is of utmost importance. One of the most beneficial policies that they have is putting new and/or potentially ill (or stressed) fish under quarantine. That might sound like a big downfall but as a fish lover with several tanks I can tell you from personal experience that there is NOTHING worse than bringing home an infected fish and not realizing it until all the fish start getting sick and you are in Emergency Mode trying to save them all. Blue Fish gets this and does everything they can to prevent this from happening to you, that is awesome. Seriously, whether you are a total fish newb or a long time salt water vet, Blue Fish is where you want to be. Its also a really awesome place to just look at fish, even better than the zoo 😉.
What do you want?? A fish.? A coral.?An aquarium? Let them know they are there for you. They teach you about the pet the condition it needs to be in and also help you to set up and exquisite display at home. The best per store that I have ever been to so far. Go Bluefish Aquarium.
Great place for any aquarium hobbyist. They also have a lil reptile section if youre into that. Blue fish will order in stuff for you, fish, sand, aquarium, meds, the works. Every time theyve done it for me its always been a quick process. I was searching for a 33 long aquarium for what seemed like forever, I finally just asked the people of Blue Fish about it and had one in my living room within two weeks. Its always hard to choose driftwood or rock pieces here; not because the selection is lacking anything, but because there are so many quality pieces available. I was told that all of the driftwood and rock decor pieces are hand picked by some of the staff and I think theyre doing a wonderful job.Have a fish you can no longer care for? You can surrender live fish for store credit! I had a couple of medium Angels and a rubber lip pleco and they gave me I think $20 store credit to use on any livestock. Got a flame gourami and plants. ;) I think trade in days are mon-thursday before 7pm.
We at Apogee Therapy Center love Blue Fish Aquarium! we have a 45 gallon and a 75 gallon fish tank at our facility and they are a huge part of the atmosphere. Blue Fish has been extremely helpful in providing us with excellent fish and with information on how to maintain our tanks. We Highly recommend Blue Fish Aquarium!!!
They killed over half my fish! I bought 1 fish and 2 assassin snails and the next day my fish started dying. After the 3rd day half of my fish had died! All they had to say was well the fish you bought from us is still alive so it wasnt our fault... Seriously?! My tank hasnt moved in 6 years and one of my fish is 8 years old (many others are several years old). Ive never even had 2 fish die close together, let alone half of my tank in 3 days... 3 of them were angel fish, which are my favorite. I will NOT be going back. Not to mention that their prices are too high...
Take my word for it, just come talk to Ben, Jeff, and the others at Blue Fish. Ive been to all the other shops in this area and they all pale in comparison to Blue Fish. The advice and answers they give you here are worth the ride. They always have a nice selection of nice, healthy fish (salt and fresh water) and will help you select one to fit in your existing system. Other places will tell you what you want to hear or what it takes to sell a fish, but Blue Fish will give it to you straight!EDIT: Since my last review, they moved locations so it is not difficult to find at all (next to Grandville Post Office, right off the highway). Same great selection, prices, and advice in a better/bigger location!!
Managers and some cashiers will follow you around the store and harass you. Is that a way to treat customers ? Maybe you should watch all people, instead of assuming someone going to steal because they do not look like you. Very poor customer service. I will let friends, family and others know about this experience. I came from Vietnam when I was 15. I did not know it was so much prejudice in America.
Blue Fish Aquarium is truly unparalleled when it comes to fish and reptile quality and supplies. I come here roughly 2 to 3 times a month for help, and to pick up sustenance for my fish, snake, and now for my new Leopard Gecko Pickle. Everyone is incredibly polite, personable, and genuinely fun to talk to. They give you accurate advice and instructions for you and can break things down without being condescending if youre new to fish or reptiles; they also have highly knowledgeable employees for some of the more Expert tier questions. They are not trying to just sell the most expensive stuff to you to make a sale and they back up their recommendations with actual data and examples. If they dont know the answer to a question you have (mind you, its rare) they simply get someone else who knows the answer. To be candid, I would be devastated if they ever went out of business. I have friends that make special trips from Dowagiac, South Haven, Muskegon, Detroit, and in the UP to just visit Blue Fish Aquarium for supplies and additions to their homes. They surpass any other Fish and Reptile store in Michigan I have been to, and will always have my business as long as their doors are open. I would recommend Blue Fish to anyone.
Dont take this place for granted. I moved to Atlanta and there is nothing even close to this. Other places do not have the same love for freshwater fish that bluefish has. This is a place that is better than any mega store both in price and in service. If you have an aquarium of any size you should stop in if nothing other than to chat about fish.
Found the salt water tanks filthy, looked like no one did any tank maintenance during the lockdown, after calling to see verify they were open at 11, got there only to find out they were open at 12, staff kicked me out cause my mask was not covering my entire mouth, couldnt hardly breathe cause it was so humid in there,. This used to be an awsum store! Not anymore,.
I wanted to put a recent review in here. Plain and simple, there is no other place near Grand Rapids that even comes close to Blue Fish. It is no longer in a house, now it is right off the wilson ave exit on 96.Go in on a weekday if you can so you can spend some quality time with their staff. Kyle spent an hour with me one day, tested my water, and gave solid advice.I knew it was a great place when the lady there tried to talk me out of a certain shrimp because my tank was too new..I am into saltwater fish, and there are 2-3 specific reasons salt keepers should go here:1 - Quality, Name Brand Hardgoods (Foods, Pumps, Lights, Test kits)2 - Clean, well kept tanks with good selection of fish and corals, including what they are eating.3 - Their advice holds up. So often I have been give bad advice by a fish store just to find out about it on Reef Central later.
I wish I good give a good review, but after my experience, its just not possible. I have been going to Bluefish Aquarium for awhile and I went to buy some Corydoras catfish. One of the workers there told me they have never had any of their fish die after being brought home from the store. That sounded too good to be true but I bought six corys anyway. HUGE MISTAKE!Three days later velvet breaks out in my tank. I knew the corys had infested my tank because I had been doing large water changes ever three days and my water quality was pristine. I immediately preceded to treat the velvet, or gold dust disease. I darkened my tank and dosed with malachite green. After several days I thought it best to return my sick corys before the seven day guarantee expired. When I tried to obtain a store credit in exchange for my sick corys, the workers tried to convince me that they were perfectly healthy. I am very experienced with freshwater fish however, so the false information they provided me with sounded ridiculous. They said that freshwater velvet is the rarest disease and is rarer than 1 in 10,000! Any website on the internet(I have read them all) will tell you the exact opposite. They said they have never had velvet in any of their tanks in their entire store ever which is preposterous! They probably just didnt realize it was velvet whenever it occurred. The employees then proceeded to make every excuse for why they could not possibly return my fish. I ended up having to leave with my sick corys to fight the problem myself.I would highly recommend going to a different store because the workers at Bluefish sound like they know everything and thats why I started going there. However, I assure you that they do not know more than anyone who has put forth even a small amount of time into researching freshwater fish would know. The employees there do not have accurate knowledge about fish. Please dont fall for the misinformation you will receive at bluefish! The internet is full of information and I recommend highly researching everything yourself beforehand.
Customer service is horrible !! Very arrogant crew must get it from the managers !!!They sell sick fish and when you return them theyll find ANY excuse to NOT return your money !!!!My guess to why theyre arrogant is because its a private business and theres no competition.Only place in west michigan that has that much of a variety unfortunately...VERY EXPENSIVE !! IF YOU BUY FROM THERE AND THAT FISH IS SICK YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT THEM REFUNDING YOU LOLTHEYLL FIND A REASON TO NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY, FACT!!!!!V.I.P. pets probably the best place to go...speak to the manager and order yourself a fish you like , its not as convenient as picking one from a tank and bagging it up but Blue fish is a rip off and there taking advantage of people
My mother wrote a bad review on this company’s Facebook and they posted security images of my minor child and myself (as well as other customers with their children) without my permission. Personally have never done business with them but be careful of writing a bad review they don’t seem to take them too lightly!
I love this store! This is the only store that was able to know what an Axolotl is. I have been looking to buy this type of fish for the pass 2 years. But the only place that I was able to find them was on the internet. When I went there for the 1st time they knew what I was talking about. Now I have 2 happy little Axolotls. :)
This place is the place to go if you want to find Salt Water Fish. It may be intimidating to pull up to a house, but the store in the back is awesome with tons of tanks and well maintained fish. Salt Water to Fresh Water, skip the chains and go to Blue Fish. The staff is super nice and can help you with anything.
Thank-you for your FANTASTIC customer service....it is rare to find people who care...the prices are reasonable and the whole experience is GREAT.Sean is awesome as is Damon and the rest of the staff ...I will sing praises to all of you for your outstanding and caring service....LUV the Fluval and the fish....and your store Blue Fish Aquarium is like entering another amazing world of water creatures....LUV IT....!!!!!
Bought some salt water, aquarium water filter supplies. The filter did not even work, was useless. They would not take it back or even give us store credit. To top it all off, the crabs died after using the salt water they sold us ! We were told the water was ready to use. Evidently not. Never returning again.
Brother and I bought 2 total betta fish from here about a month ago. My brothers died within a week. We figured it was just sick up there but didnt want to drive all the way to Grandville to return his $5 dead fish. Now, the other fish which my boyfriend has, has ich. And its bad. She looks like she is being eaten alive and hasnt eaten for a week. I can not believe this could happen. Maybe they need to tend to their fish better. My poor baby is suffering and I dont know how to help. Very dissapointed in this aquarium. The interior set up was amazing but at this point it all I care about is neither fish we purchased being healthy.

2021-11-18Unlike most pet stores, they take very good care of their animals. They didn’t have any sand boas so they ordered me one & will take care of it for a week to make sure it’s not sick. & the reptile manager is great. I’m intimidated over how much he knows about many different kinds of reptiles.

2022-04-26The fish, plants, and invertebrates I bought here are still living and thriving two weeks after purchase. I was beyond impressed with the cleanliness and upkeep of the in-store tanks. The employees were very helpful and happy to talk aquatics. The prices are very good. Previously I drove to Lansing for quality live specimens and I was very grateful to find this store closer to home and with great practices.

2022-04-11Large variety of fresh & salt water fish, plants and invertebrate! They also sell reptiles and amphibians and get some really cool ones in. Plus the employees are very helpful and nice. Some products are a bit pricey, but its worth just going and viewing what they have even if you dont buy anything. Its like a mini trip to an aquarium 😅

2022-06-29Zero stars. Spoke to the owner about shipping an item out of state, and got the OK. I purchased the item and provided the shipping label as arranged. Days later told me it’s not gonna happen with no reason or explanation. They have yet to refund my order. Will have to escalate with CC company. Put me in a horrible situation with no stand for 400lb aquarium. Very unprofessional & horrible customer service! Please take your business elsewhere!

2022-05-28Blue fish has a great selection of all aquarium related items. Damon was very knowledgeable and helpful, even asking how long of a drive we had home to make sure our fish was in the proper size bag.

2020-02-10This is a great fish store. Their selection is great. They have a billion different types of guppies and a good plant selection! If you are in this area it is a great place to go for supplies. They also have some beautiful display tanks. They also seem to do a great job at rehoming fish!

2019-11-08I spent $100 here because I found so much stuff that I need for my turtles and aquarium. They have so many fish here. They have most of what you would need for salt water aquariums, fresh water aquariums, reptiles, amphibians, and they even have some things for cats and dogs as well. I highly recommend checking this place out even if it is just to look at all the animals. I will be back at some point to buy some shrimps 😁
