Books-A-Million in other cities:
My 9 year old and I decided to stop in this store and see what it was all about. I couldnt get her to leave! I didnt want to leave either. There are so many great books for great prices. They also have so many fun gifts, toys and collectibles. My daughter is already begging me to go back. There was also plenty of helpful and friendly staff around the store if you needed help.
Came here for the first time to buy some books. When I came to the cashier he asked if I wanted to join membership in which I did (I had no problem with this since I thought it was a good deal) but then insisted on me to pick 3 magazines that I would get for free. I didn’t want to and he kept insisting and made it seem like it was required for the membership only to find out it a subscription that will automatically charge my card a VERY pricy cost. So now I have to stress about canceling this subscription I NEVER ASKED FOR. So please be careful anyone if they try to make you get it because the way it was explained to me was so that I would get scammed. I looked up and a lot of ppl have been scammed this way. I’ll be canceling my membership too because this is not cool.
Great selection of books! They have a wonderful selection of books, vinyl and etc.If you are looking for books this is definitely the place to go.Also, you can finds some really good deals in the 1/2 off (I. E. Clearance section). They also have a try the book program. My daughter love having that option.
Great book store! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. If youre looking for specific topics or subject matter and cant locate it in store then theyll help you out, and will make a real effort in locating the desired items either within their store or through their in-store order/shipment to your home service. Great deals, plenty of gift ideas for children and adults, all things for booklovers, outdoorsy types and techies.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Unlike other bookstores where I sometimes struggle to find anything interesting when just browsing, here the layout is setup in a way where I find too many books that pique my interest and I want to read.I recently joined their rewards club and have quickly saved more than the annual membership costs ($25).
Bookstores are even better when visited together with family. There are so few left they are like national treasures to me. While I do occasionally order books online, it is so much more fun to find hidden gems in person. I can get lost in a good book for hours. I was very good today- I only bought 1 book and 3 matching bookmarks for my mom, my sister, and myself. My husband was shocked. Usually I will find a big bag or two of books. I had to confess I had left my booklist at home. I did take pictures of numerous books that looked interesting so that I could look up the titles and authors later to make certain I hadnt already read them. The staff was very helpful. The bathrooms are open for use again which is always a plus! Especially after we had tried to eat inside at several restaurants only to discover they were take-out, pick-up, or drive-thru only.Thank you again to BAM for another pleasant time spent making new memories while browsing books.
This is a pretty decent place. Its a standard bookstore so you know what youre going in for. They really dont have very good bargains and their sales are moderate at best. They are pretty well stocked though so thats good. They claim to have used books but they really dont have any at all. Maybe five in the entire store and theyre not in their own section but hidden with the rest of the books. They have a sister store called 2nd and Charles which is where they send all of their used books so if youre looking for cheaper books then that is where you want to go. the store itself is pretty difficult to navigate because you walk in and the aisles themselves are just sort of thrown everywhere. You have to already be in the aisle before you can see the sign that tells you whats in that aisle so you have to walk around and around and around and around and around to try to find where anything is. They do have a website that you can order from which is nice. You can also order items that are currently out of stock and on back order and they will just send them to you when they get to it but shipping is pretty stupid because you end up paying a flat fee and then you end up paying more per book as well so they can cover the cost of them sending every single book individually which is on them and not on the buyer but the buyer is one has to pay for it anyways. The employees seem pretty nice and helpful but they could use with some better prices in sales and they really need to redo the layout of the store or have signs hanging from the ceiling or something. Most of us generally know what were going to look for and dont want to spend the first 2 hours trying to find the section.
This is a really cute place. One you can walk in look around and find things you arent even looking for. Its quaint, clean and very well organized. The staff is usually friendly and they seem to be following covid protocols. The only reason I am giving them a 3 star is because they are public place and they currently have their restrooms closed.I was there the other day and had time to browse, but I needed to go the the restroom, so I just got what I needed and left quickly. If I would have been able to go to the restroom, I probably would have had more time to purchase items I wouldnt have normally been looking for. It makes me wonder if they realize all the business they are losing because of this.I was at Barnes and Noble several times recently and I enjoyed going there because I dont feel the need to be rushed in case I need to use the restrooms.Just use caution here and know before you go. I bet sometime in the near future this will probably change.
My first trip to this store was magical, and I truly believe it’s a fun place to stop in. It has so many things that my kids and myself enjoy. I also love that there’s discounted books, used books & brand new ones! You really can’t go wrong, and as a writer myself, I love to support bookstores (and I do support this one!!)I thought I’d found my home away from home, but during my first trip, the cashier was very aggressive about a membership that at the time, didn’t seem wise because I didn’t know how often I’d be in that area. My second trip, the same cashier, saw my children with toys in their strollers and wanted receipts for them when I told her I’d purchased them at the Tjmaxx next door. I get the logic in double checking to protect your merchandise, but you also should be aware of your merchandise - I don’t even believe the toys my children had were sold at the store. When I told her we’d need to go to the car to find the receipts, she instead checked the toys for tjmaxx stickers. I told my husband that we wouldn’t be returning, because those experiences together just didn’t feel right. I don’t think she handled it well & instead of politely asking me, stopped what she was doing with a customer because she freely assumed I was leaving with stolen things, and had no intention of trusting anything I said without proof. Also note, she saw us walk in with those same toys, so again, it wasn’t a pleasant experience for me and I won’t be returning.
I really liked this bookstore, actually it was better than Barnes and Nobles. They had a greater selection in the things I was looking for. The customer service was fantastic and my Daughters loved the kids area with tons of toys and books for them (which drove me nuts, lol). I am definitely going to become a regular. Awesome experience.
I was driving around to kill time before my appointment. I saw this place on the corner of 13/Southfield Rd. I wandered into a hidden gem with helpful, friendly attentive staff members. Huge selection of books as well as gifts, games, collectibles, and stationary stuff. They had an Alice in Wonderland display table filled with goodies! I bought a couple of books, signed up for a 1 year membership, and got a good discount with coupons! I will not be going to Barnes & Noble anymore. This place is way better to experience.
Big Book Selection, Small local corner shop feel, excellent customer service, great atmosphere, friendly & knowledge staff, reasonable prices (Even BETTER than you would expect to see at the larger national chain discounted or bargain or value shelf). This location should be in every town. Wish I had discovered this book retailer sooner in life.
My absolute favorite store on the face of the planet. Ive been here sooo many times, countless hours and still havent reached the far corners of the store. There are always new things to see and such a wide variety of items, not just books, for literally ANY interest you could possibly have or want. Gifts, toys for babies/kids/teens/adults, playing cards, tarot cards, birthday cards, mugs, Fandom collectibles, socks... the list is endless. I feel like theres magic in every little nook and corner I turn. The employees are always friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I did 75%+ of my Xmas shopping here and found something for everyone on my list. I love this place and often wish that they had more locations. Also have a very valuable rewards program!
Customer service: 1Very kind customer server peopleWait time: 1Not a long wait at all!Product: 1I loved all the items at the store!Location: 1It wasnt busy and they are placed in a good areaPrice to product: .5The price on the products is a bit much actually. Majority of the items I saw were very overpriced
Amazing selection of literature. Very organized and signage that makes it very easy to find what you are looking for. Very friendly staff that were more than happy to direct you to selections you request. Also have kids section right up front that makes it very easy to draw kids attention to learning. Prices are reasonable. Great to see not everyone has gone to technology yet! Nothing beats a good book in your hands!
I love this bookstore so much. The employees are obviously treated well as they always seem genuinely happy. Weve gotten great book recommendations here. My 11-year-old has no idea what to read after spending a year on the Harry Potter series, and the young man with the deathly hallows tattoo was the perfect person to ask for spot-on recommendations. Also, the prices here cannot be beat. They are the best prices on books Ive experienced anywhere.I cannot say enough good things about this store.
Good place to go for leisure or for quick shopping visits. Good, friendly service as well as a decent book selection. You can also find movies and toys/ collectables here. The only issue I can find is that they arent great about replacing/ restocking the books that get bought. However if the book is not in the store, it is online. The online service works smoothly and products in my experience have always arrived on time if not earlier.
It seems like its really hard to find a brick and mortar bookstore these days. Books a Million is staffed with friendly people, and has a great selection of books and toys. My son loves it here, and any time he gets birthday money he wants to spend it here. If youre not an ebook reader or if you just want to check out some cool trinkets with your books, this is the place.
Friendly staff, and great selection of books in stock. There are always books on clearance, if youre looking for a bargain buy. They have a bunch of tat up by the registers, just like any book store does. Great selection of vinyl figurines, pop culture merchandise, and even some good records (you can get a halfway-to-decent record player too if you want). The comic book section doesnt seem to get the most recent issues in all that much, but they do have a wide selection, if youre looking to pick up something different. They even have some board games, movies, and toys for kids, so its much more than just a bookstore.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and an excellent variety of books and sundry items. My last visit I went for a HP Lovecraft anthology and left with a graphic novel HP Lovecraft anthology, an Alien figurine, and two Godzilla figurines.10/10 will continue to support physical book stores
My daughter devours book series, and books a million is right around the corner from our house so its a first choice for us. The staff here is friendly and very helpful. They have a wonderful selection of books, and a large table with activities to keep the little ones busy.
I’m pretty happy with this store. Obviously in this day and age with the many books available it’s not possible for a brick and mortar store to carry everything. But the titles offered here are good, the atmosphere is inviting, magazine selection is good as well. As mentioned by others the employees seem genuinely happy to be here and it shows in their customer service.
Love this place. Not nearly as big as Barnes and Noble, but a great selection of all types of books. The staff is always extremely helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. I visit regularly and take advanced the discount plan. I do wish the audiobook section was larger and contained more books in the mp3 format, which is significantly cheaper than books on cd.
Went to buy a book here last December. Very high prices. Cashier demanded I purchase a (very expensive) membership. I declined, and the cashier became almost unhinged, demanding I purchase a membership. I explained that I do not go to this bookstore very often, but the cashier would not let it go, holding up the line. Recently, Ive had several unauthorized charges on my debit card--magazine subscriptions I apparently purchased at Books-a-Million. Ive had to spend several days unsubscribing/calling vendors to get refunds for the unauthorized purchases. All for buying one book here. Never going back.
Great book store. Not crowded early in the morning. Kids section so I can let my oldest explore toys while I look for books. A large magazine section. I got lots of magazines for less than $10 to my surprise. Most of the books on my wish list were available including Outliers.
What a variety. I spent way too much time here but found a pile of books that I cant wait to dive into. Cookbooks, magazines, and poetry just to name a few things I left with. Prices are a little steep but they have to pay the electric bill I suppose! The only thing this place is missing is a coffee shop with a comfy couch I could snuggle up on!
Fun place to buy books with all sorts of unique treasures. Unfortunately they do hound people relentlessly about their discount card that you have to buy for $25(might be more now). When you do the math it really doesnt save you much unless you purchase thousands of books.
I ordered off their website, and it took two weeks for my book to ship, when it said it was in stock online the entire time. I attempted to re-order the book to get it to ship faster, but couldnt even cancel my original order due to the status it was in, so I was forced to wait for the original order to ship. I cancelled my second order within 5 minutes of placing it, but my card was still charged for it. Ive emailed their customer service twice now, and have yet to receive a response from someone. Once I get this book that was supposed to be here in time to be a Christmas present for my dad, Im never using this service again. What a joke.
Given Barnes & Nobles well reported troubles and the closure of their West Bloomfield location a couple years ago, I am happy to have this Books-A-Million location nearby. It is on the smaller side with a somewhat restricted collection. They are always happy to order items online for you at the register but that misses the thrill of instant gratification. Yes, many brick and mortar stores are dying but I think bookstores have a place in the hierarchy of retail that makes them a social experience and part of the community. I hope Books-A-Million execs will recognize this and continue to invest in their stores. One new thing that I noticed today is that gently used books are being sold as part of the stock. Rather than mixing these books in with new books I feel they should be segregated.
Stopped in to buy a book pertaining to the stock market. A nice male cashier asked another male cashier to assist me, the cashier refused, suggesting he would call a female cashier to assist. Because Ive seen this movie b4, I asked the initial cashier who was busy with other customers, in what direction are the books regarding finances. The second cashier was standing @ his register assisting no one upon the request. Customer Service was ZERO that beautiful day!!
Very dissatisfied! I ordered a book for my daughters summer coursework that she needs to turn in on the first day of school (August 28, 2017). In the meantime, I got a new debit card but the store had my old debit card information. I dont order from Booksamillion very often, if at all because we usually visit the store. WEEKS went by and I finally got online to look at my order and it said there was a problem with my debit info. WHY didnt they send an email straightaway like other companies do to let me know this?! Why did I have to sit for weeks thinking that my order had been processed when it hadnt?!I corrected my debit info and the order went through very quickly only for me to be told it would be delivered at the end of September! I promptly cancelled the order. I wish to support my local book stores. I understand if they didnt have it in stock but if there is a problem with processing a payment, the payer should be notified IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!! I have wasted weeks with these people!!!!!!!(I also have a gripe with the school district for sending hundreds of students to get a book that there are so few copies of...another story for another day...)
Buyers beware, if paying with credit card. Double charged my card. Once I Saw the double payment I called the store. Manager later called me back saying that they did not see record of double payment. Was told to call corporate finance department. Called them and was told that they would research the issue and call me back. 2 months later no call yet. I did wait a week and filled a claim with my bank. Not once while talking to corporate or the store did I ever receive an apology for the inconvenience.
Nice bookstore. Has a large variety of books, novels, etc. As far as the eye can see. As far as I am aware though, there isnt much of an area to sit and read. Nice array of books and toys in the kids sections. From Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and toys from as far as the front door to the back wall. (Which isnt that far tbh...)
I love the store but went for the book buy back. Wasnt looking for cash but trade credit. It wasnt offered or discussed and the cash amount was offensive really. I had already looked up the titles to see possible value and offer was so far below it was an insult and waste of time
As with all bookstores...I lose all sense of time and place for hours...as melt into the world of books. This particular store has everything from the world of books and calenders and datebooks and everything interesting and beautiful for us writers to use to produce that most unique and special thing in todays world ...the long and friendly hand written letter to a true and timeless personal loved one.You really come out of this place ready to get to reading and get to writing...quite inspiring.
Because they have just about any book you want it may be hard to find what you want at times which was the case this time and they helped me out I found exactly what I was looking for, Then wait to check out was not long either. The bonus was I was checked out by the person who helped me out to find the book! Point made in a busy crowded place, what you cannot help yourself to they personally help you with.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. Have never been here before tonight and between (I think he was a Manger) talking down to his employees, horribly and loudly, (nevermind the fact that there were customers in the store) and another employee shoving past me without an excuse me...needless to say this was a first and last visit. I was going to make purchases but I was so disgusted that I left empty handed.

2022-05-05Fantastic amount of books, especially at discounted prices. Not as big as other Books-A-Millions Ive been to in other states, and they had fewer magazines, but childrens sections and book sections are huge.Great prices on everything. Even new wrapped books, such as a few car books I looked at were cheaper than even Amazon. There are handicap parking spaces available and plenty of parking. Its in a strip mall, but the entrance away from any high traffic areas which is great. The staff was very kind and corteous when we were checking out. Highly recommended bookstore and if youve never been to a Books-A-Million before, I really recommend to visit.

2022-07-17This is such a great book store! They have an excellent selection and a good membership program. If they dont have what youre looking for the very helpful team members are always happy to assist and may be able to get it ordered for you. Andreas has helped me a few times and he goes above and beyond for the customer.

2022-04-23This place is like a mini Barnes and Nobles. I wish they had more used books but its good if youre looking for specific newer titles. The staff is super friendly and helpful.

2022-07-29I called to check on a book for a birthday gift, after going on their website. The young lady I spoke with advised I order online for in store pickup since it would save me some $. 20 mins later she had it at the cashier stand ready to go. With good old fashioned bookstores closing by the day, Im thrilled with this Books-A-Million and the thoughtful service from both clerks

2022-04-19Stopped in to purchase a gift card. I was greeted when I walked in. There was a wait @ the register. Orher associates came to help out. The lady that assisted me was very pleasant. Will return. The place looks amazing!
