Comment: I am so thankful for the work Broadway Auto did on my Subaru. Id been having issues with the check engine light and AT oil temp lights, and when I had a mechanic in the area look at it, I was informed I would need to replace the entire transmission. I called a few transmission shops, and Paul was the only one who offered to take a second look at it because a full replacement might not be needed. He was right and this saved me a lot of money! I only needed the valve body replaced. Throughout the whole process Paul was super informative and patient especially with my scheduling needs. My car is back up and running with no issues! 🙏

Comment: This was my third attempt at getting my transmission repaired, twice by the first shop in Berkeley that left me with failures 6 months in so you might say I was on guard. Paul and Reese did an amazing job, my truck, a 22 year old ford with 321,000 miles came back to be sounding like it did when it was new, smooth transitions between gears, what an amazing difference. It was money well spent, they really did replace damaged and worn parts and it both sounds and shows the difference. I’ve been driving it for 4 days and not a hiccup! Wish I’d have found these guys my first and second go around.

Comment: These guy’s are simply the Best at what they do. I was in a pinch and my Car was giving me a lot of Grief. I thought I was going to need a new Transmission or Differential. They figured out that I recently had some tires replaced and they were the wrong size. Sent me back to the Tire Store who sold them to me and they Admitted the mistake and all is good. Comment: My BMW engine light came on. I called Paul. Paul told me to bring in within a few hours. They got a reading of misfiring cylinders. When I returned for repairs Reece was able to problem solve the engine wanting to send more oxygen. Reece cleaned a critical part and the problem was solved. It only took an hour of labor that required no new parts. My bill was very reasonable. It takes a while to get get an appointment because this shop is very busy. However I think it is worth the wait.

Thanks guys.The best thing about this shop is they don’t do repairs that aren’t necessary. I thought I needed new rear bearings on both sides and they found I only needed one. They recommended I not replace the struts due to the high mileage and lack of immediate need. Really honest shop, that does great work.

Comment: I was referred to Broadway Automotive & Transmission by my regular mechanic, who does not work on Transmissions. My mechanic suspected my Mazda5 would need a new Transmission or a Rebuild. Paul at Broadway knew that model has a history of problems with a specific computer, replaced that and the car is running fine, without the more expensive work. Communication was clear and consistent, and the car was ready earlier than the initial estimate.

Comment: Having car problems is never a fun experience. Even worse is finding out your mechanic has closed. Thankfully, my old mechanic recommended Broadway A&T. They were very accommodating even though their schedule was booked (always a good sign when a shop is busy). They quickly diagnosed my 02 Nissan Xterra (they work on older cars) cooling system issue and replaced my radiator and some other parts on my appointment day. Most importantly, my dog Gretel appreciates that they are dog friendly. Thank you again!!!

At 72 this will be my last truck, unless a centurion i become. Everything else done in the normal professional manner, “>50% on the pads rotors just fine”. Comment: I called and spoke with Paul. I told him that my car was at the dealership and they quoted me some outrageous price to fix the transmission. Paul suggested I make an appointment and bring the car in. I took the car for the appointment. I shared with Paul the printout from the dealership. He said he will have the techs look at the car. He called me in the afternoon and said the transmission was fine but I needed a wheel bearing. That’s what I hearing. He gave me quote and I said you go ahead fix it. I also asked about the spark plugs. He said he would get back to me. He kept the car for one day. I went in the next to pick up my car and pay the bill. The will was not outrageous, it was within reason. It’s been almost week and I feel like riding in a new car. Thanks again Paul for looking at my car. You definitely have gained a new customer. I will be back if I have any other issues with my car. BTW, my car is 2010 Honda Accord.

One of the technicians looked at my transmission for a second and gave me a full report of why I couldnt get it back together and gave me information on how to get the job done myself (I bought the wrong part).When I went to go pay because information is worth a ton in my opinion Paul just said the cost was a fist bump.10/10 on every suit. definitely found my new mechanic

Comment: Customer service was good but I feel they misdiagnosed the issue with my Lexus RX 300 and estimated ~$5000 to replace the transmission. I am glad I got a second opinion from dealership because it turned out that my transmission was good, and I just needed my CV boot & axle replaced. I dropped my car off the previous day as I could not make it in the morning. I was told I would get a call back probably in the late afternoon the next day. I was surprised when around 11am on the following day I had several missed calls as by that time my car had already been thoroughly. diagnosed. When I made it in to pick up my car I was given a breakdown of the transmission diagnoses as well as provided other info pertaining to my check engine light and max airflow sensor as well as a cost estimate to fix these things. This allowed me to confidently and quickly move forward knowing what each specific issue was and how much it would cost to fix them all. Paul seems like genuinely nice guy and is easy to talk to. He gladly answered all of my questions and told me to feel free to contact him if I have any more questions or concerns. Although I received bad news on my transmission and the other issues, I left the situation feeling confident and relieved knowing that I had received a thorough and fair analysis and was not ripped off, dismissed, lied to or disrespected in any way. This type of positive experience, especially when it comes to automotive repair, is so rare now days and so I really appreciated it. This is true value IMHO. That said, I would HIGHLY recommend Broadway Transmission. I now know for certain that if I ever have any transmission problems in the future I wouldnt have to think twice as I know that Broadway Transmission is the place to go.

Comment: The 5 star reviews led me to Broadway and at the beginning, I was indeed impressed by Paul’s politeness and patience in answering questions and all of that. I left my Acura SUV(with apparent transmission issues) with them and they ran some codes, following which they told me the fluid looks good but is low (and filled a half quart) and took it for an “extensive” test drive (and I was told no symptoms remained). Great, or so I thought — I was able to replicate the issues almost immediately after I got the car back on second gear. A bit odd but sure, maybe just a fluke. HOWEVER, two days after I get the car back, another mechanic showed me how the fluid’s already semi-burnt (pictures here) and damage appears clear. So, what was the inspection fee and the supposed refill all about? Just does not add up one bit. I cannot help but feel they were just eager to send me packing.Paul was still answering my follow-up questions but all of them now seemed to lead to a reman replacement which would cost xxxx dollars. Of course okay if needed but wait, based on what!? I asked about a rebuild (since the issue appears to pertain to a certain gear) based on some great success stories here and I was constantly told that they don’t do that and only do replacements with remans. Also apparently no warranty on the replacement I was told, unless I got my own reman from an aftermarket vendor and dealt with that myself. I won’t leave a one star review because I don’t believe in doing that to businesses but there was an element of evasion here (and false “inspection and refill”) before tossing me out for whatever reason. Maybe the only want to work on new or expensive cars and that’s a good business model for them, but was a total waste of time for me. Don’t understand why the semi-discriminatory behavior after getting their inspection money but guess that’s that.

I knew I was paying more for services than I would have at an independent mechanic, but I was never able to find an independent mechanic who seemed competent, trustworthy, honest, and friendly. However, I think my days of dealing with upselling middlemen at the dealerships are over. My truck was recently due for its 90k service so I called Toyota of Berkeley to schedule an appointment. Without even looking at my truck, I was quoted $1,500 for a variety of services that apparently would keep my truck running for hundreds of thousands of miles and that all of the Toyota of Berkeley mechanics do on their own cars. Wanting a second opinion and after hearing good things about Broadway Automotive & Transmission, I decided to give them a call. Unlike the dealership, Paul at Broadway A&T would not give me a quote until he could actually give my truck a thorough inspection, which I thought was a good sign. After he was able to do so, he carefully explained everything that he felt needed to be done to the truck, all of which came to less than a third of what the dealership quoted me. I asked about a few of the services that the dealership recommended, and he talked himself out of a sale by saying that he didnt think the truck needed that particular work done. At this point I was sold so I decided to let Paul do the job. When I picked my truck up, Paul was very generous with his time and walked me through everything that had been done to the truck. Although the shop was clearly very busy, Paul took the time to answer all of my questions in terms that I - as someone who is most definitely not an auto mechanic - could understand. Long story short, I highly recommend the friendly, trustworthy, and professional folks at Broadway Automotive & Transmission.

I spoke with a gentleman who said that sometimes, vehicles don’t need all the work that’s listed on the checklist so they’ll need to check it out and see what needs work. I scheduled an appointment, dropped my car off the day before, received a call about the work that needs to be done, and a few hours later, got a call to pick up my car. The whole process was easy and efficient. The gentleman that helped me when I was there picking up my car told me what work was done, answered the questions I had with my brakes and tires, told me about how much life I had on those and sent me on my way. He didn’t try to upsell me in any other services, which I really appreciated. Overall, I am very pleased with my service there and will definitely return in the future. Comment: Paul and Rhett are awesome. My new rebuilt trans now has over 100k miles and runs and shifts beautifully. Really feel that Paul makes every effort to be fair. He had my car for 2 days checking out the repair - multiple fuel line issues on my 1993 MBZ - and felt it would be overly expensive to repair so didnt charge me a dime. Not saying they can always do that but for a long time customer, it was really nice of them not to charge me for the shop time.

Comment: A truly great car repair local business. Started taking my family cars here a few years ago. They have always given me prompt estimates, completed the work on time, and done a great job. Special shout out to debugging some weird vibrations that they managed to isolate, fix, and give me the car back in 2 days. I was expected weeks and weeks of dont know where its coming from. Instead, I got a honest answer from them about were gonna try this first, and then go here 2nd if that doesnt work, they did the work, got it right (on the first try!) and yeah, Im bringing them all my business. Additional note - the folks (Paul?) who runs the place is super nice, approachable, and just a joy to talk to about cars. 10 out of 10. Theyre truly great!

Comment: Time will tell if they fixed the problem I went in with. But somehow I left with A NEW problem that I never had. They chalked it up to, that it is an old vehicle. BS. This vehicle is a powerhouse, till I brought it to them. Shame on the two owners by not being accountable for their major mistake. I will not go back their to get it fix! They said it may take hours ($160. A hour) hmmmm Makes me wonder . Dont even want to give 1 star

Comment: After reading many great reviews I decided to bring in our old car and was not disappointed. Paul and team were very friendly and welcoming. They heard my concerns and checked them out. I was greatly satisfied with their work and recommendations. With an older car, it was refreshing to hear that they wanted to take a more observe and take action approach instead is replacing parts left and right. They checked it out, told me it needed replaced (quote was $1,300).I called around to three other places in the area and got quotes for the same amount or higher.Of all the places I called, Broadway Automotive and Transmission (Paul and Reece) were the most kind, clear, warm, supportive, and helpful. Comment: I had my transmission replace here on my 2013 Nissan Versa. They do great work and they work fast. Although I do feel like you pay a good amount for the work they do...I still think its worth it. On a side not, dont by a car with a CVT transmission they are a pain and supper expensive, you will have to replace it at least ones in 6 years of owning your car.

Like they said I had a heater core leak to why there was water in my car... false rubber seal around door. The suggested new transmission.. i got a service And they had to clean sum parts but all fixed. Guess my old car 06 wouldnt bring them the high repair price so they didnt have the time...

Comment: Paul was awesome. I took my 1997 Honda CRV because it was having up shift issues from first to second gear and felt like there was lack of power. Paul got back to me that same day and told me that he disconnected the oxygen sensor and drove the car and the engine performance was better and the up shifting issues didnt occur. He said that a new oxygen sensor should fix the problem. He also told me that he wanted to keep my car over night so he can diagnose it on a cold start, I gave him the ok. The next morning Paul calls me and says that there is a problem with some internal transmission components. The up shifting does not occur when the vehicle is warmed up and has been driving around for a while thats why he didnt experience the up shift issues the day before but was able to experience them the following day while the car was cold.I know I got some bad news from Broadway Automotive but hey, what can you expect? It is what it is. I really like how Paul was honest with me and how great costumer service he gave me. They are very organized and their shop is very clean. I will fgor sure take any future business to Broadway Automotive.

Comment: A little more than a year ago, the transmission in my 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid failed. Accordingly, I started researching the best way to proceed as every transmission shop, from the dealership down to local shops and mechanics wanted thousands of dollars to replace it. And when I started looking at the reviews for the shops, I was very disheartened. You see, I have one of those new-fangled cars, that have special equipment, my transmission being one of them.
