Comment: Paid for a Mustang convertible when walking up to the car someone was driving off on it. When we Confronted the driver while they were trying to exit. The woman in the exit lane said its not a big deal just go get another one instead of arguing I went inside asked for another car of the same because thats what I paid for and unfortunately they didnt have one. I was on a business trip so I had to take what I could to get to my destination however I was not happy especially after paying 200 plus and not getting the car that I was supposed to. I will not be returning to this location!!!

Comment: Long lines. Two agents. I prepaid, email said to go to precheck at 3rd floor, no one there, back to 4th flr, waited over 1 hr, and they didn’t have a mini van that I reserved. The issue is Enterprise owns all the car rental companies, Avis, hertz, Alamo, budget. There’s no incentive to do better. There’s a word for this; oh yeah, monopoly.

Comment: RENTERS BEWARE! FRAUD AND SCAM. We rented a car 10 months ago. The attendant walked the vehicle upon return and there was no damage. Today for the first time I received a text saying there was a claim for damage in the amount of $2200. 10 MONTHS LATER?? I was shocked and when I called they sent me pictures of damage that was clearly not there when i returned the vehicle. Go somewhere else to rent a car. I have reported to the Federal Trade Commission, next stop SF Authorities and BBB. You barked up the wrong tree, Budget.

Was able to trade it out for a new car, but then received a bill 2 months later for a damaged mirror on the original car. I did not damage the car, but because I didn’t purchase their liability coverage, there was no getting around their accusations. Will never be renting a car here again.

Comment: Budget charged $450 because of sand on the floorOn June 8, my card was debited for $450 after two weeks of renting the car. The Budget did not provide me with any explanations.I called several times, but after my identification, the managers just hung up. When I made an official request through an intermediary, they sent me a photo with sand in the cabin. But charging $450 just to vacuum the car is too much. Having low prices, the company thus earns on clients. For representatives of the company, the booking number is 753915978. I do not recommend the company, because in the end it will be much more expensive than the competitors.

Comment: Just came back from our trip. We had reservation of another car rental company but it was closed to get the car because our flight was delayed. So we went to budget they are 24hr open. The agent names Allen helped us with all the paperwork and the process was really quick(like 5 min). Allen was so responsible and he helped us to choose the car type that perfectly fit our needs. Thank you a lot for saving us from staying overnight in the airport :)

Comment: The whole flight was two hours, the wait time to get the car was one and half hours! Why is that so hard for Budget to understand more people are needed to make the wait time shorter? Comment: My friend and I needed to rent a car for 1 week, so my friend reserved a car from the Budget Car Rentals at San Francisco International Airport. Well when my friend reserved the car from them he used his debit card to pay for it and ask the representative 2hat else he would need to pick up the car. The representative said just his drivers license and the debit card he paid with. When we got there the person working wouldnt let us pick up the car because we did not have a credit card to use as the 2nd form of payment. Well long story short, we couldnt get the car and missed our trip. Wish I could give them negative 5 stars.

Comment: Absolutely abhorrent company. They gave us a known lemon car and had the audacity to charge us for assistance when it broke down. The car was an absolute beater with over 60k miles on it and a poorly erased chalk note on the window saying engine trouble. We should never have accepted it, but it was dark in the garage and we couldnt see the note. The car broke down on while my wife was alone and they came out to tow and replace the car, saying we would be compensated for the inconvenience....fine. Over a month later we have not only not received a reimbursement and but get a bill in the mail for the tow! I call and they tell us that is standard for any roadside assistance and that we must have done something to damage the car. Absolute disgrace or a company. I will never use them again.

Comment: Terrible returned a Hyundai sonata after filling it up at the arco right outside the airport. (Next to In-N-Out) the man asked if I wanted the receipt email or printed I said email. As I’m at the airport they charged me $80 for fuel Services!!! Called customer service and they wanted a receipt from arco even though I paid cash and threw it out. Now I paid an extra $100 total for the car rental. I’m military as well and do lots of traveling. I’m telling you STAY AWAY FROM BUDGET! There are better companies out there who won’t hit you with hidden fees and make you fight to get the false charges off.Overall bad company and the sfo worker’s mistake cost me :/ double check and get that receipt printed right then and there

Comment: Just returned from SFO where I was very disappointed to see another junk fee added by Budget. We filled up our car 8.4 miles from the airport. Budget said the tank was 0.8 gallons less than full and charged us $8.81 ($10 per gallon plus tax). We had a Malibu, which gets 36 mpg on the highway. At 9 miles, at most we would have used .25 gallons, not 0.80 but this is just another junk fee that you cant dispute because there are no gallon indicators on the car dashboard. I thought there laws against price gouging on gas, I guess they dont apply to Budget.

Comment: Wait lines up to 5 hours. I have never seen anything like this. This place is a joke. There were about 350 people in line and only one employee. Youd think that, based on car reservations, a rental agency should be able to properly staff for high demand times. They probably destroyed several folks vacations. Completely unprofessional. I will never rent with Budget again.Addendum: Per the below request from Budget I did send them an email with the reservation details...and never received a response. Obviously, Budgets aim is to appear responsive and to move criticism away from a public forum. As a basic courtesy, if you (Budget) request an email for further details, have the decency to actually respond to it. Otherwise its just fake.

Comment: Crooks! This should be a 0 star review - our advice is to avoid Budget at SFO airport. We were served by Justin and he performed his script word for word - “Here’s the thing - we have no cars - you could kick a football around down there. We can give you a mini van….”. After pointing out this was unacceptable he said he would “go and have a look to see if there were any cars down there”. Two minutes later he returned with the keys for the exact car we booked. Went through additional cover options which we declined. Then we return the car in pristine condition 44 hours later, and get a “Non Pkg” charge for $111 for fuel, the car having been fully refuelled within 9 minutes of drop off and checked in at the return airport on our receipt as a full tank. This has been billed to our card (currently being contested by the Credit Card provider) and is in full breach of consumer rights. This is nothing but a scam operation run out of SFO airport.

Comment: I owe a huge shout out to the team at Budget at SFO - when a delayed flight on April 30 turned in arriving in the wee hours on May 1st no one was at the Rental Car office except for the Budget team. I was tired, stressed and in need of a car since the other company I rented from wasnt around. Alan at Budget was amazing, getting me set up and on the road (even after having to go through the process 3 times after computers kept rebooting). Im extremely grateful for them being there for me (and the other passengers). Thank you Alan - you have no idea how much I appreciate it!

Comment: 30 minutes line, employee not explaining that price is ‘per day’ vs whole rental period, dented smelly car, these were all expected. What was not expected is having 2 front tires on the Chevy Malibu Budget gave without any thread left on them. So when it started pouring on May 4 the car became completely undrivable on a highway. I absolutely not recommend this company due to poor car maintenance and potential safety issues.

Comment: I rented a car from SFO yesterday. Service from Robert was pretty good however the car i got isnt the best. I got a honda crv and its really grotty. Cigerette burns on the driver seat and armrest and stinks inside. Wasnt cleaned either and has sell written on the front and back window so I guess its the cars swansong before going. After a 20 hour journey to get there i really couldnt be bothered walking back to the office to complain but now stuck with the car for 2 weeks...dont expect a brand new car when renting but check the car is respectable would be nice!

I see a charge of $450 on my credit card statement.TL;DR: Always take photos of the cars interior before returning it to Budget so you dont get hit with a $450 cleaning fee.Heres what happened:I rented a car from Budget and got hit with a surprise $450 cleaning fee for smoke smell – even though I dont smoke!I called customer service, explained the situation and requested proof. I was given photos that looked like dust, not ash. They also had incorrect mileage and the wrong drop-off date on the report with at least 90 unaccounted miles (and thats with me being generous about how much I drove).After a frustrating 38-minute call where they initially offered a 50% discount on the fee (which I declined), they finally waived the entire $450 charge due to it being a one-time incident.Budget, do better! These false claims waste your customers time and create unnecessary stress. Lets keep things honest and transparent.

We returned the car, no inspection done by staff for us. An hour later we get a revised receipt with an extra $23 - what?A call to customer service and they eventually confessed to it being a gas charge - took a bit but was dropped - wil be examining my CC statement.Even though we get 3x miles on Alaska card will not risk Budget again - had issues prior time also and hearing more of this bogus smoking charge cements it.

In spite of having a reservation, we waited over 90 minutes in line at the counter to get the keys. Pricing is also on constant flux; while waiting I checked online and could reserve another car (at the same time) for less than my current reservation. Budget seems to have saved money by taking it out of the customer service.

Comment: I rented a luxury SUV for $1000 today but was disappointed to find it lacked lane keep assistance and Android Auto. The booking agent promised I could swap for a Grand Wagoneer at any Budget location, but the Infiniti I drove didnt meet expectations. Customer service directed me to a nearby location where they offered to exchange the QX80 for a Honda Pilot with Android Auto and lane keep. Im frustrated because I expected a Grand Wagoneer but got a different car instead. The wait time was also long. I called multiple budget agents and local locations but no use. I hope Budget can address this issue and make it right.

Even after reserving car budget made me wait more than hour as they were as no car which I booked.2. Finally they gave some other car but car was. It cleaned at all all bread and thrash right there on all seats.3. opted carSeat but did not found car seat there for my 6 year kid, where problems became more critical.4. Just be careful to check the rental vehicle BEFORE walking away when returning the vehicle! Lesson learned on my part! :)Old Post:BEWARE! If you leave any personal belongings behind, you may not get it back! Unfortunately, I left a bag in the backseat ( I know its my fault, but Im human) and I have been trying to get it back. I had a friend go the same day to get it and the CS Advisor was rude, unhelpful, and condescending. I filed a lost report and it takes 5-7 business days to start the process. Wow, ok then! Comment: I typically like budget, but I had fastbreak set up on the rental, we arrived at the counter and a sign said to proceed to level 3 for fastbreak, we went downstairs and there was no one there and the sign said to go back to level 4 for fastbreak. During that time not only did we waste time going back and forth, but 10 other renters jumped in line ahead of us. While we waited one of the workers went over and turned the fastbreak sign around. When I brought it up, they didnt care. The entire point of fastbreak is to save time, instead it caused me to lose an extra hour of my time late into the evening.

I wont even go into the nightmare of dealing with Candy at the counter in SFO.The main issue is they left me stranded at night with zero help when I got a flat tire. I had one day left of rental and needed to visit many clients.The options they provided were ridiculous, buy a new tire (!!!), get towed with the car back to SFO for a tidy sum of $600, or pay for a tow truck to fix the tire. It was complete flat and there was no spare!! How could they fix? At 10pm???This was a brand new 2024 Dodge Hornet with just over 2000 miles on it. Because it was an EV the battery takes the place of the spare 🙄.Needless to say I told them to just take it away and I would rent from another company.The next morning I noticed the car was still sitting in the hotel parking lot (valet had key). But I thought it was not my problem so I took an Uber to Enterprise locally and got a car for the day. About mid-day I decided to check in with our friends at Budget to be sure they had the car. Nope!Despite having a case number and speaking to two people who required I provide the car number and fully verified me as the renter, they had no record of any problem or roadside assistance request!!I spoke to a very nice woman who both apologetic and appalled at the way they had handled this. She immediately got a tow truck going and they picked it up within a couple hours.The only thing I have to say to budget isNEVER AGAIN YOU JERKS!!You are cancel from my life.Do not call me, do not email me, do nothing to made this right.Because you cant!!

Comment: I was given a very old car with almost 80000 miles on the odometer. It smelled bad in there and part of the carpeting was falling apart. Also, when driving the speed limit (65mph) the vehicle shook. My guess is it was out of alignment. On top of that, the rental was $100 more because of hidden fees. The counter agent didnt mention the extra fees at all. Never again, Budget!

Comment: After arriving in SFO at 1am, both my husband and I were tired and just want to quickly rent a car. We reserved an intermediate SUV, and would like a AWD or 4WD. The receptionist didn’t mention if they have AWD/4WD intermediate suv, but requested extra $50 per day. We were hesitating because it’s too much, he asked what airline we were flying. We told him Delta and then he asked for extra $35 per day. I don’t know if budget has such policy to offer discount for airline passengers or he just wanted to charge us more. The total experience is doubtfuland all about charging extra. Our bill ends up with extra $300. Now I am worried about any additional/hidden fee when we return the car.

Comment: Budget at this location needs to work on their management and accommodations for those who become delayed because of their inefficiencies. I was delayed for over an hour waiting in line because my FastTrack slot sent me back to the counter. This delay caused me to be late to checking in to my hotel, almost to the time where I would have been charged twice for my reservation. I arrived on a red eye, and only chose Budget because it offered a FastTrack pick up and what I thought was the only car rental opened at that time. Several FastTrack customers with kids also had to come back upstairs and wait in line. There were three agents working, and the one I approached told me to wait in line with everyone else when the line was about 30 people deep. This same agent told another customer (who was able to get his car but it would not start) to get back in line, which by that time started to wrap around the next section. I dont know what happened, but then two of the three agents disappeared for a while. The worst part of the process was that when it was my turn in line, I was simply handed my rental agreement with the slot number it was in. I could have waited in line from the get go instead of trying to retrieve my car in the FastTrack queue only to come back upstairs to wait in line.

Arriving after 11pm after a delayed flight and being told they didnt have the van we reserved because we were supposed to pick up yesterday. It was 12:05 on Friday at this point and we had scheduled to pick up at 7pm on Thursday. They had no vans available for us or another family. They wanted to make it right and upgrade us to a luxury vehicle that wouldnt fit our family of 6. After some complaints they finally found two vans and sent us downstairs. Where we only found one van for 2 families. After 10-15m of taking and going back upstairs they finally showed up with a van for us after 1am.

No line when picking up the car, friendly staff that wasn’t pushy about upgrades. And our drop off at the end was super easy. I also want to mention that we absolutely loved our vehicle. I thought we were just getting a small car but it ended up being a small SUV, brand new, smelt good and drove great. I’ve had a lot of stinky cars in the past. We had a great experience!

Car was broken into and we had to pay the repair cost which was way over the normal price of repairs. Car they replace it with was a mess - had to go back to the Budget to have the key fob battery replaced. Customer service on the phone was terrible. They kept telling us to call the number on the key fob, but that is for a tow. Look somewhere else for a rental car!

My first car shut down due to full electrical failure, we lost time with my elderly family due to having to go pick up another car that did not suit what we needed, had horrible gas milage, and was nearly impossible for us to use. The staff were nice and tried very hard but everything about this process was terrible and I am never using this service again. Between hidden fees, a system that sent me around in a circle for hours, and the literal breaking down of the product, I am never using this service again. I dont even ever want to rent a car again, let alone use this service.I got home and they charged me nearly 200 dollars on top of what I was told was full payment. I told him specifically NOT to have insurance coverage and any other extra features except three days toll coverage for $39. Yet he deliberately and furtively added all the expensive coverages I dont need. Not only this, he then wrote down on the rental agreement the location of the parked car as V. ##, and READ IT ALOUD TO ME AS VEE ##.. But there was NO ROW V in the garage as all Budget cars end at Row U!! The guy clearly meant to jerk me around and deliberately mislead me. Two parking workers tried to find the car for me to no avail, until we finally by accident found it in row N, wasting more than 20 minutes of my time and I almost missed my appointment at Stanford.I returned the car the next day due to change of travel plan and found out what he did to me--I was charged $280.01 for ONE DAYs car rental! And that he had jacked up what was supposed to be a three day rental cost of $90 to $409 (!!!). Arguing with the lady manager at the desk was no use as she refused to change the wrong charges to my card.This kind of employee behavior at SFO budget has harmed Budgets reputation as a national chain. Employee 2 proceeded to process the vehicle exchange .While I was at the counter doing the vehicle exchange, my husband calls me from the rental car garage and says, Someone is putting their belongings into the new Tesla. I explained that is impossible as the employees told me to retrieve the keys from the car prior to doing the vehicle exchange; and they were completing the request to switch cars. Employee 2 informed me to tell my husband to tell the customer that the car is already rented out to us.My husband and I begin to put our items into the new Tesla Model Y. Another employee pulls up in a Tesla Model S with his manager standing outside the car. I informed employee 1 what was happening; and he informed me that he gave the Tesla Model Y to the gentleman(the new customer). His manager was confused as I explained what had happened on my husband and Is end as well.The manager explained that the situation is not our fault; and the customer was given another car.All in all at this location:I felt disrespected and like my time was wasted(walking back and forth to a parking garage just to have an employee tell me the car was in the system; and I didnt have to walk back and forth to obtain the key).This location lacked proper communication between employees(Employee 1 says the car is available, I can inspect it to see if thats the car I will exchange with the current car I have, then gives it to another customer without informing me.) Comment: Avoid Budget. I’ve used them 3 times in the past 4 weeks and every instance I’ve had one issue or another. I had to call customer service to get my charges adjusted. Come to find out instead of giving me a credit, they charged me the amount they were supposed to credit. Charged me $19 in tolls for an HOV vehicle that got a flat and had to get tow back on my own dime. How I got $19 charged is beyond me, because the next day I had to return to the bay (because of the flat on the first day) and took the same route and got a $7 charge. I took a one way rental from SMF to SFO, and they charged me 12.99 for eToll that I never signed up for. It should have been $7. Then I’m out of the country and I got a fraud alert on my debit card (which I never provided) where they tried charging me out of the blue for idk what. It was declined but then somehow they successfully charged my cc associated with the same account. I was not even in the country to make a reservation! Yesterday I got a one way rental from SFO to SMF now that I’m back in the country, and returned the vehicle within 24 hours. I called customer service and also informed the guy when returning the vehicle to make sure I wouldn’t be charged extra. I was assured not to worry and I was all set. But of course when I got my receipt, it has a charge for an additional hour. Now I’m going to have to continue to deal with all of the above over the phone with customer service, and escalate the issue until I get a resolution.Pay the few extra bucks with a rental company that won’t hassle you and cost you that much more in time, energy and headaches.

It cant be that hard to make sure you allow customers to leave the lot with safe tires, not 2 front tires with absolutely zero tread. Especially when the forecast for weeks around our trip was rainy. We had a blast being scared hydroplaning across the highway on our honeymoon... Comment: On our rental (2/26/24) we had two problems, perhaps related. First, at SFO we were assigned a vehicle in space W23. We had four pieces of luggage which we wheeled to that space. Upon arrival we encountered another customer who had been rented the vehicle in W23 by Avis. So, we wheeled our luggage back to the Avis pick-up counter and the agent assigned the vehicle to the Avis customer. She then changed our booking to another vehicle. When my wife asked what the rental rate for the new rental was to be the agent was miffed and dismissive. We got a revised rental receipt and moved our luggage up to the Avis rental spaces and picked up the car. At the auto exit there was a delay while the rental apparently had to be verified with the Avis counter. We drove to our destination in Reno. We unloaded our luggage at home, filled the rental car and drove to the Rental Return area at Reno International Airport. I turned the car and key fob over to the agent in the garage and we drove home.Two days later we were reviewing our credit card statement and noticed that the charge for the car, originally $159 was quoted as $359. That was upsetting, especially given the mix-up at SFO. My wife called and was informed that there was a $200 fee because the rental car hadnt been returned yet. After additional discussion of our steps returning the vehicle, the agent said that the $200 would be credited in 5 to 7 days. It was actually removed in about two days.None of this goes to encouraging our interest in further renting from either Budget or Avis.

Comment: Dont rent an Electric Car and definitely not from BudgetMy flight landed SFO at 8:10. I left budget in my car about 9:40. There were no budget personnel on site. I rented an electric car, and the conditions for level of charge at return were not discussed except for in a very general way. The electric addendum was not part of my contract documents (though I was to be held to them) and I was unaware of the fees until the following day. It took 9 hours on my home charger to get to 70% charge, the required minimum (that unit will charge my Honda in 3 hours). I contacted the Fulton Ave Sacramento Budget and they informed me that I would have a $70 charge fee if the car was returned with less than 70%. I contacted customer service to find the rule since I was not presented with it and it was not on the web page. The real fee was $35 according to the rule. When the car finally achieved 71% charge, I returned it to the Fulton Ave Budget, where I waited 1 hour and 20 minutes to return the car. At check out, my $98.43 rental reservation plus $12.99 prepay toll cost me $115.62. No explanation for the $4.20. Ive invested way too much time into this. Transparency, disclosures and just customer service should have been much better.

Comment: DONT GO! Ive been waiting for a full refund for about 3 weeks for a car I DIDNT EVEN RENT.First, they were not aware that a second driver must be over 25 years old. My friend and I, both under 25, found out about it while reading the terms of the contracts that we DIDNT sign.Before that, they made us pay for different fees such as insurance, young drivers, and others.So, we had to cancel because the second driver was not legally allowed to drive a car rented by Budget. Let me add that the employee, who took care, of our case didnt even look at the age on our drivers licenses.He told us we would get a full refund within 48 hours.We called and emailed customer service many times since sending proof of billing. Rented a standard minivan and associate suggested the hybrid version for $5/day more, which we took. Fuel mileage difference was significant - more than covering the higher rate. We arrived to the counter after midnight and was told they do not have the vehicle we reserved. They gave us the next sized down vehicle which we used to shuttle our party to a hotel near by to sleep for 5 hours. We returned the vehicle after 5 hours and rented the appropriate vehicle from a different company. I was still charged almost 150$ for the 5 hours at the hotel and hope to have that reversed. Lesson learned, even though Budget is one of 2 rental companies opened after midnight at the airport, they do not have large sized vehicles they promise. We used National Car Rental in the morning and had no issues getting the size needed.

Additionally they billed another 10$ for refueling although I returned the car fully filled.We did a wide tour around the west coast and Hawaii and had several rental cars. Either the car I reserve is double-booked, the check-in process usually fails, the person at the check out gate seems like they do not have the same information as the people at the desk. Ive never had an experience where I just get the car and go. I wish Budget had an experience like Hertz where I can just get the car and go. This is especially painful when I fly in late and I need to go to the hotel - the last thing I want to is go to the front desk and get the reservation sorted.

Comment: I arrived about 30 minutes before my reservation time. There was a long line. We spent about 30-45 minutes waiting in the line for only 2-3 customers in front of us. The issue was that they were out of cars and everyone was angry. Admittedly the customers were tired and rude, but the employees needed to have someone acting as a firm leader directing the customers away from the counter once they were given the bad news that there wasn’t a car available. I am tempted to give higher stars because they miraculously did have a car for me and the man at the counter was polite and helpful to me. But part of the customer experience is standing in a line for 40 minutes because the employees weren’t able to be polite, but *firm*, with customers ahead of us who stood and argued for so long. When I finally reached the front of the line, one of the argumentative customers cut again in front of us to keep arguing. I asked if it was his turn again and whether something different would happen compared to his previous ten minutes at the counter. To make the experience better don’t worry about me and my particular car, since it worked out. Worry about the process and training. What are employees supposed to do to prevent people from getting stuck in line for 40 minutes (even if unfortunately some will inevitably get bad news when you are out of cars). And I guess the other bad outcome on my particular reservation was that no car seats were remaining in the bins, despite us reserving those as well.For the record, the guy who helped me was competent and polite.

I asked for a change of car and wanted a Nissan Murano, they promptly switched the car and updated my rental agreement without any hassle. Also when I dropped the car at LAX Budget location, I was charged an extra $157 in my rental closure although I had a Prepaid rental. But when I went inside and spoke to Andrea she promptly made the corrections and dropped the extra charges and honored the prepaid amount. Kudos to Andrea for her wonderful customer handling. Comment: I’ve had the ABSOLUTE WORST experience with Budget Car Rental!! I recommend NOT renting your car through them! Even if another car rental company is a little more expensive, it would be way worth it to not have to deal with the hassle of Budget Car Rental. The car I was rented had multiple mechanical issues with it and became unsafe to drive. The CHECK ENGINE light came on, along with other lights on the dashboard saying to pull over and turn the car off. (Which is hard to find a safe spot to pull over in the middle of Bay Area traffic) I called Customer Service that day and told them about the issue and they said to call back after I’ve returned the car and they’ll check into it. It was very scary driving the car back to the airport and worried about breaking down and missing my flight. I called back after the car was returned and the CSR I spoke to said ‘sorry for your experience’ and offered a 20% refund. I said that was insufficient since it was a safety issue and asked to speak to a CSR manager. The man I was speaking to, then started being rude to me and said he’d transfer me but I’ll have to wait at least 4 hours on hold before anyone answers. Then the CSR manager that I spoke to kept saying she would only offer a 10% refund. I told her I had pictures of the dashboard and would be contacting Corporate. She then put me on hold for a while and returned saying she would give me a full refund. I had to follow up and call back 3 more separate times and each time I was told the refund had been processed, when it actually had never been processed. After the 3rd time calling back, the CSR processed the refund right away while I was on the phone. So I had been lied to multiple times. Then 2 days later, I had another mysterious charge on my C.C. from Budget. When I called customer service again to inquire about the charges, they said it was for the tolls. I had already been charged and paid for the tolls I went through right after the rental was returned and asked if I could get a receipt explaining the first charges for the tolls I paid and the second time I was charged for additional tolls. The CSR said she couldn’t give me a receipt, so I asked to be transferred to someone that COULD help me. She said she would transfer me to a manager and then hung up and disconnected the call. I’ve now had to contact my cc company to dispute the charges and block Budget from my account!! This is the worst company, and customer service I’ve ever had. I don’t know if they train their employees to just lie and disconnect customer when they inquire and are looking for answers or what but I definitely will NEVER USE BUDGET again!

Comment: I am not a fan of the E-Rental Agreement aka Rental Dashboard, being emailed to me. In order to access it, I needed to go to a local Starbucks where I had internet access, as I did not have it in the garage, to open the email, then download the Rental Dashboard. My question, what if I got into an accident and could not access this document? Customers should be given a choice hard copy rental agreement or digital. I know that hard copy costs money for you, but think of what works best for the customer. Sending the receipt via email at the conclusion of the rental definitely works, but not the rental agreement.When I booked my rental, I asked for a Toyota Corolla or similar. I received a text message the day of the rental to go to Zone 1 for Budget/Avis. The signage for Budget was poor but Avis was everywhere. When I think of Zones in this manner, I picture a choice from many vehicles in a row. There were 5 cars and no Toyota Corollas or similar. I had to go to the Fastbreak desk where one of the associates who was off duty went out the lot and found a car that he delivered to me for which I was grateful.

Had to sign an electronic rental agreement for $397 which the check-in agent told me $200 was for deposit to be refunded when the car returned in same condition. Comment: We rented a pick up truck from Budget. The car smelt awful when we got it, extremely moldy. We were on a time constraint and had to leave, so we just dealt with it. The steering wheel was extremely heavy and difficult to drive. I drive a pick up truck back home, so I know this isnt the norm. To top it off, it poured our last day in San Fransisco and when we turned on the wipers, they didnt work. Technically they moved across the windshield, but they were just making it worse and blurry. I couldnt see. I actually had to keep getting up so I could see out the windshield. Technically the car worked, but was not worth the price we had to pay for it, they obviously werent cleaning or maintaining the vehicle.

I would rather spend a lot more money elsewhere than go to budget again. In my range (4) there were two cars parked there. One with no key and the other was definitely not in the large suv range which is what I needed since I had kids traveling with me and it’s what I paid for. After FINALLY getting someone to help me, he brought over 3 separate cars that all needed oil changes. I was there for an hour and a half and he finally brought me one that didn’t need maintenance but had expired tags. Comment: Ive used Budget before but they let me down this time.The car was dirty outside, inside and under the bonnet, there were discarded items inside the car from the previous hire.Worryingly the tyre pressures were obviously not checked as they were visibly different one side to another, the screen wash reservoir was bone dry and it took a whole gallon to fill it, which I paid for.By law in the UK this vehicle would be deemed unfit and a driver could be given a ticket, I would assume there would be a similar situation in the USA where we hired. It took over a week of calls to even get in contact with the correct department, and now I need physical receipts for each of my belongings that was stolen to maybe get reimbursed. Ive been unfortunate enough to have this happen to me before while I was renting from another company and the process was much easier and I was able to replace my belongings.

Comment: Entire experience was sub-par. The rental agent told us the class of car we had reserved was not available (full size Camary), so we would be receiving either a Malibu or Altima. When I pointed out that those are both mid size cars and we were being charged full size rate, she insisted they were full size class. She became quite rude when I disagreed and said that generally a customer would receive the next HIGHER class when the car they had RESERVED (several weeks in advance) was not available, certainly NOT a downgrade for the same price.The assigned car was at the absolute farthest position on the lot. we walked past several cars of the same model (Chevy Malibu) while walking to the furthest back corner of the lot.The car we received had NOT been cleaned. There was still trash in it from the previous rental. The car was NOT full of fuel. The gauge indicated 3/4 tank.When we returned the car FULL of fuel, we were charged a fuel service fee, on top of the rental charge.This is the first time I have used Budget. I utilize rental cars 3-5 times a year. I realize this is a small # compared to some of your customers, but this still represents $1200 - $1500 of revenue (or more) per year.My experience with Budget this time assures that you will be at the bottom of my list for future rentals.

Comment: It was an overall positive experience renting our car from Budget in San Francisco, CA. I only have a few qualms:Pricy for a basic 4 day rental booked way in advance. It cost me $475 for a basic little four door car. The car we got was nicer than we were told we were getting, but did smell like smoke, which was a little tough for me as an asthmatic, and also hoping we don’t get charged for that because there were stickers all over the car saying “$450 smoking fee.” My final qualm is that the gas situation is such a rip off. There’s so fair option for fuel which is frustrating. We were only going to use half of a tank for our four days and our two options were that you HAD to buy a full tank of gas from Budget, which they were charging $6.50/gallon for but we wouldn’t need a full tank, so regardless you don’t get your money back. The second option for fuel refill was that they’ll just refill it for you at $9.99/gallon. I almost had a stroke!But overall, they gave me a car that worked. Picking the car up was easy as was the drop off, which we always appreciate when you’re trying to catch a flight.

Comment: Be aware of hidden fees and branded vehicles offered at the counter.First of all, I rented a car through the website, and the total cost including tax was less than 800 US dollars (for eight days). They had 11 attendant spots with only 3-4 filled depending whether they were taking breaks. It took us 45 mins of standing in line. It wasnt til we got to the counter that the lady told us that we were Fast-Break members and could have avoided the line by going straight to our car! They should have someone checking with everyone in line to see if they have this feature. There was nothing that told us that we did... But afterwards, everything was great! Comment: The staff at the counter were very rude. I was traveling from the east coast on a late arriving flight due to a hurricane. I had an issue with my credit card and the gentleman checking me in was very rude and impatient.I had a separate interaction with another lady at the counter after I came back from the car depot to ask for a different rental car. She was also very rude and suggested my choice in using the cheapest rental site was the reason I didnt get the car I wanted. She offered no solution and even went so far as to print out my reservation and highlight the discounted rate I paid. Awful experience.Lastly, I cant think of a worst city to drive a 4 door pick-up truck in the San Francisco. To make matters worse the vehicle was an older model and didnt have GPS turn by turn capabilities. I had to navigate tight, narrow and dangerous sharp turns on bad roads while holding my phone in one hand. The care was also dirty (stains all over the fabric and the outside hadnt been washed).

It took approx 2 hrs to get through the line with only 5 people at the desk. It was terribly hot and the customer service person I got was rude. She said that the vehicle I wanted was not available but she did offer me a brand new SUV plus lots of upgrades, if I would accept it. I politely explained that the reason I wanted the hybrid was because of the gas prices in California. I then asked if I could get a fully electric vehicle and was rudely told NO! That’s when I asked for the Supervisor. The Supervisor offered a Toyota Prius Hybrid that had 50k miles on it. That was totally fine, as long as it was mechanically sound! Budget Rent a Car, YOU NEED TO DO BETTER! I paid almost $800 for a rental car for 1 week. The vehicle was 3 times the cost of my car payment and more than the cost of my flight plus….I might have been able to buy a new car for the amount of time it took to rent this car. SMH!!!

The only downfall was that we wanted to extend our rental by 6 hours to fit better with our departure time - I tried to using the automated phone service but they wanted an additional $1000USD for the 6 hours of rental, which is ludicrous - that is almost the same amount we paid for the entire 2 weeks we had the car. Comment: I rented a full size sedan from Budget last week at their San Francisco International Airport location. My intention was to drive to Sacramento to go on a date as my personal vehicle is not in the best condition. I was initially pleased that my Fastbreak membership enabled me to pick up my rental agreement and proceed directly to my car, skipping the main lobby check in line. I saw my Nissan Altima rental sitting way out at the very end of the last row in the parking garage. Right away, my enthusiasm waned after noticing a large paint scratch pattern on the right rear door. This car’s paint job suffered from various dings, scratches, door dents, and cosmetic damage to the right front bumper. Even worse, the interior smelled like a combination of cigarette smoke, vape, and/or weed. The car’s windows were rolled down and I believe the cleaning staff skimped on their duties. The front and rear floor carpets were dirty and had not been vacuumed. A large discolored caked dirt/dried mud smudge was evident on the center-right portion of the rear passenger seat. I needed to get up to Sacramento and begin the two hour drive at that moment and did not have time to return upstairs to the rental counter to exchange cars. The Altima ran very well. But upon returning the vehicle back to SFO the next morning, I complained about the above conditions to the return lane agent. She listened empathetically for a moment then proceeded to walk around the car, pointing out the blemish not being in her records (I forgot to purchase the LDW because the Budget app is very quirky and freezes up. I did not see an option to add an LDW during the online checkout process). Fortunately, I’d snapped a few pics of that scratch as well as the aforementioned cosmetic faults. They featured the date and time. Rather than acknowledging the authenticity of the pics, the agent took my phone number and warned me that her supervisor would likely call me. Just that passive aggressiveness began to stress me out. So I left the facility, hopping on the Airtrain people mover that runs from the rental car center to the main terminal where my personal vehicle was parked. Just then I noticed my emailed receipt in my inbox. But a few minutes later I received a second receipt informing me that my charge was over double the cost of my rental! I began feeling an adrenaline rush of anxiety because I thought that the shift supervisor decided to double the charge on account of the paint blemishes! I’d activated a toll payment on my personal Fastrak account to cross a local bridge and wondered if their computer had erroneously charged me Budget’s toll crossing rate. So upon examining the second email, I was shocked to discover that Budget had emailed me another customer’s receipt! This adobe acrobat receipt detailed his address, partial credit card number, and other personal and confidential account data! Naturally, I began wondering if my account data and receipt had been sent to someone else!I work in customer service for an airline at SFO and am well aware of the various trials and tribulations of the post-pandemic travel experience. Every time I’ve rented from this outfit in the past, I have encountered musty and cigarette/vape/marijuana odors, cosmetic dings, lack of cleanliness, and availability issues. This is by far the most unpleasant encounter I’ve had with Budget.

Awesome employee! Easy pickup and advice about sights to see and traveling around SF and Oakland. Overall great car and experience.Only negative was that I was an hour late for my drop off and got charged an extra ~$60 for it. I think this is a silly policy designed to squeeze a few extra bucks out of travelers. They couldnt even figure out why the engine light was on, so we had to trade it in. The support tech was helpful, but we had to go out of our way to get it taken care of because the 2 budget locations within literal walking distance didnt have replacement cars. Then the 2nd car had mold in it, like fuzzy growing mold! It was extremely nasty. The 3rd car was newer and had no problems but they they overcharged me on the gas refill option. I was told about $70 for the option to bring back on E, for an economy car even though it just cost me $68 to fill up my Ford F150 - but they had the audacity to charge me over $150.00.The only saving grace was their customer service agent Gabi who processed a refund immediately without any question.I would really have to think hard before renting from Budget again

Comment: Rented this car from SFO while on vacation with my wife and son. After having the car a short time, it became clear the car was in poor shape. It had over 40,000 miles, and it was simply not maintained. It had dents and scratches all over it. The driver seat trim was broken and falling off. The tire light come on and found that the right rear tire was bald and had chunks of rubber missing. I took the car to the MRY location to swap it, but my impression was that since they did not rent the car, they were not that interested in helping. Poor brand management at the very least. I rent a lot of cars- Ive never seen one this bad.

Comment: We rented a Mustang/Camaro convertible in San Francisco to drive along the coast from Fort Bragg to San Diego. We got a Camaro (wich I personelly think looks better) that didn´t disappoint us, we where more disappointed by the overall state of the car.1. The last time the car´s wer cleaned was 2006 on the inside and 2012 on the outside. The inside had sticky leftovers from the pre drivers and the outside was just dirty and not cleaned.2. The first car had multiple dents and scratches, so that it wasn´t presentable on pictures or in the public.3. The first car hat the steering wheel pointing at 10 o´clock4. On the second car the tires where worn outOverall I have to say, the staff in your stations are all very kind and tried to help us in the best way they could (thats why you get 2 Stars). But the overall state of the vehicles I had was poor. The worst is, it would have only taken 30-60 minutes of extra work clean the car properly and check the technical state of it. I had to drive 200 miles back to San Francisco to change the car, just to get a technically nearly ok car with worn out tires but nearly just as dirty one. So clean the cars and look that they´re in a technical state that someone who´s paying a lot of money for the rent, would actually appreciate it. With those 30-60 minutes more work, you would have gotten 5 stars.

I am not rating them 1 or 2 stars only because they upgraded me to a better car for the same price as my original booking. On the first occasion I was stranded for several hour by the roadside and had to change the gyre myself with the help of San Mateo Sheriffs - so I was NOT happy at all about using Budget, after this experience. I do want to recognise how fantastic the Avis / Budget Operations Manager - Autumn Poti was at SFO in helping me change the car. I would absolutely book using Budget / Avis again and this is largely down to dealing with her. Both cars were excellent - but it has been the fantastic work of their customer team that would convince me to use them again.

Recently, I decided to give them a second chance, and what you see is the end result. There are probably 50 to 75 people waiting to be checked in, and two people are behind the counter. Unbelievable! People have been waiting in line for over an hour, and I believe thats how long it will take me. If you ever think about renting from this company, think again. Its a mistake that you will regret.

Please stream line the process.We came for a 2 days vacation in SFO, but that doesnt mean I need to spend 1 day in rental pickup????!!!!

Comment: I had a reservation and told directed to Level 3 and the counters were closed telling people to go upstairs to Level 4 customer service counter and told had to wait in line 3 hours for a car…only two agents working the crowd in the pictures. Cancelled reservation and they have the nerve to charge me the entire balance. Avoid using Budget like your life depends on it.

Comment: 20 customers in line and one person at counter. They got 15 counters and no one at the counter. Standing from last 30 mins and line did not move. After 5 hours of flight you just need to stand. It is frustrating. My flight landed at 7:10 PM, I got car at 9 PM. It’s better to either get if from Hertz or Enterprise.

There is no app or there is no kiosk to pre print and proceed. Never go for budget or this location againStaffs are really worst.

Comment: They didn’t have what we reserved but provided similar vehicle. We reserved minivan but they only had Suburban. Overall no complaints, service was great but when we returned the car at LAX they charged us $300 or so for fuel (Fueled literally two blocks away from their LAX location and I made sure it was really full before I returned it) after phone call they returned $ so always take pictures and keep receipts when dealing with rental car companies so you have proof!

Comment: I havent even gotten my rental yet and I have been in line for an hour with two more hours to go. There is only two people working the desk and a manager. The manager could very well get on a computer and help with this long line to get people moving. No. He found it more important to leave and get iced coffee for the agents. I get it nice treats and all but while the line is 3 hours long isnt acceptable. Everyone is short staffed. That shouldnt be the excuse for a three hour long wait.

Comment: Under staffed and did not have the 15 passenger van we reserved. What is the point of reserving a vehicle if you dont get what you reserve. We had already paid in full before starting our trip.The line was ridiculous. There were only two people working. We waited over an hour before getting to the counter. Then I was told they didnt have what I reserved. The only option offered was two separate vehicles, which sucked for our vacation plans and cost more in tolls, parking and gas.

Comment: Easy in and out. Very friendly staff. Good prices too through Costco. Lost a star because the only cars they had left were trucks. We reserved a midsize sedan. Sure, technically we got a serious upgrade in terms of price. Trucks are WAY more money to rent. But they are also significantly less comfortable and worse on gas. My aunt has mobility issues and had a terrible time getting in and out. Also no place to put luggage out of sight. Made for some long, uncomfortable rides. Over all it got the job done.

Comment: I’m rating 1 star because the vehicle I rented was in unacceptable and poor condition. When I was asked “how was everything” upon returning the car I made my complaint and was told to speak to a manager, that was it. I couldn’t speak to a manager because my priority was not missing my flight. Long story short, I was given a sports car with extremely low tire tread on the rear tires (rear wheel drive). I rented the vehicle on 04/15, and that afternoon it started to rain, the car was drifting on the interstate at 50 mph and was hydroplaning. If it weren’t for my Wisconsin-winter weather-driving experience I’m pretty sure I would have lost control of the vehicle and caused an accident. Do not rent the Nissan 370z! Inspect the vehicle’s tires! I will look elsewhere when renting vehicles, Budget is not worth risking your life. Here are pictures of front and back tread for comparison. What will management do to prevent a scenario like this again?

Comment: Budget Car Rental - SFO. Understaffed at the pickup counter. Long line, 12 counters with only 3 staffed. The longest rental car line I have ever waited in. Any rental company. Any city. This in the epicenter of world technology. But tech cannot replace good management. Or can it?

Comment: Check in is obtuse and confusing. The signage indicates the wrong floor. Once you get to the correct floor it is a slow process. Would be nice to separate people who have a reservation from those without.Car provided was excellent. Only complaint is that for a plug in hybrid, the car was not charged when we picked it up. Not a major issue but as more cars are battery powered would be good to be full of both gas and electricity
