Comment: If I could give zero stars I would. When I picked up my rental after ordering online, I had asked for no additional charges besides what I paid for base thinking everything was good. I signed for almost $150 of extra charges trying to fix the issue as well is less than enjoyable. The rental car was still dirty. Had boogers on stickers and a hair clip was left in the vehicle as well. Beware of the shady practices and think twice about driving with budget.

Comment: I rented from Budget Rental in Sacramento in August 2023 for a business trip. After I arrived at night, the next morning I noticed a blemish on the front bumper. I took a picture of the blemish and the next day when I returned it I told the attendant. After that, I received a damage report claiming it is my fault!! I am never renting from Budget or Avis again, ANYWHERE.

Comment: Budget was wonderful! They got me into a beautiful Chevy Tahoe. Pick up and drop off very quick and easy. Pricing was very competitive compared to other rental agencies I checked into. I highly recommend and will use Budget again when I need a rental.

Comment: Renting with Budget will be one of the biggest regrets of my life.I pre-paid for a “Compact” car. I was under the impression that the vehicle was gas. The confirmation stated a Kia Soul or similar NOT Kia Soul EV or similar. No where in my selection or the confirmation were there any mention of an EV / electric vehicle. When I arrived to pick up the car, I was told that all their compact cars are electric and that if I wanted a gas car, I would have to pay to upgrade to an SUV.I rented this car to drive down to a wedding from Sacramento to Los Angeles, I didn’t want to drive an SUV (I own one, I could have just driven my own SUV at this rate) and purposely selected “compact.” Never have I ever received an electric car after selecting compact at any other rental car company.I have zero experience with electric cars. The only thing the lady told me was to download an app called ChargeHub, I wasn’t informed of where the charging port was (in the front of the car which I had to figure out on my own), what type of charger it needed…nothing.I was over two hours late to the wedding due to all the stops I had to make / all the waiting I had to do to charge the car.My 6.5 hour drive down to LA took over 9 hours. Similarly, my drive back from LA took over 9 hours + an additional hour before returning the car to charge once again.Instead of enjoying my trip, I spent the bulk of it planning my route to ensure I would have enough charge on the car and coming up with contingency plans. I went to over 10 charging stations and at every location there were broken charging stations, long waits, or you would have to download an app to be able to charge.There was zero transparency on Budget’s part and it seems like from other reviews they force electric cars on their customers with the hope that they’ll pay to upgrade. If I knew that driving an electric car would have been such a logistical nightmare I would have eaten the cost of upgrading to an SUV.Renting with Budget literally wasted hours of my life & charging the car costed just as much as gas except you pay for it with hours of time and energy wasted. Avoid renting with Budget at all costs.

Comment: The pickup was OK other than I got a huge gas guzzling van instead of a compact. When I dropped it off they never sent an email receipt like they said they would. I had to call the next day and they added a prepaid gas charge I didn’t ask for.They fixed it on the third call. What a waste of time. Avoid this location. National is much better at SMF.

Comment: Me and my husband have always rented from budget and weve always turned down the insurance because we are covered with our insurance. But this last trip they said my husband accepted insurance. They show where he signed it but if they were more clear and they actually asked him do you want insurance he would have said no. So something real fishy is going on. They didnt care they didnt ask to help they just said too bad. Probably ruined avid budget rental customers!!!!

Comment: When I arrived I was told only electric cars were available or I would have to pay more for a different vehicle. I explained I had never driven an electric car before. The associate told me it’s really easy, no big deal. It was NOT easy, nobody helped me with any instructions for use and the time spent trying to figure it out and planning around necessary hours of charging RUINED my vacation. I guess I can say it was a learning experience but Budget should have provided more information up front and honestly, if they didn’t have a car available for me they should have upgraded me for free before forcing me into the electric.

Comment: Decent car and smooth pickup/dropoff process but will not be using Budget again. The promised amount was very different from what was paid. Huge lack of charge transparency and you have to go hunting for a receipt after return. They really try to upsell you on extras and corner you in the discussion. The automated customer service was very unhelpful too. Better to spend a little more and know what you are paying for.

Comment: My reservation 38205373US3 was confirmed on 9/30. when I booked said reservation, I took time reviewing the options to ensure I Was getting a car that would provide what I needed for my party while at the same time considering what I am comfortable driving as well as staying within my budget. I had rented an intermediate SUV.I arrived at Budget counter at 12:05pm to pick up my 12:00 rental. Upon arriving I was told they did not have my vehicle and I could wait 45 minutes or more for another car or take what they had. I had ONLY 2 options. 1. A Jeep Wrangler or 2. a Ford 150 pick up. My sister in law was also checking in and she was given the same option. I got there first I chose the Wrangler, Ive never driven something as large as the Ford150 and shuddered to think of the expense for the gas. I was also told either car would cost us each an additional $10.00 per day. There was no choice. When I inquired about the car I had reserved, the agent albeit polite reiterated you can wait 45 minutes or take what we have for an additional charge of 10. per day. He also did not ensure our car would be the one returning in 45 minutes if we waited.We had a schedule to keep, so we proceeded with the rental.My fellow passenger has a bad hip, so I hope you can empathize the difficulty he had getting into the boxy jeep as well as the lack of comfort riding in this vehicle, there was hardly room for 2 large suitcases, 2 backpacks and 4 carry-ons. I also paid for insurance I didnt need, fearing what they may charge me upon return.Simply put, it was a classic case of bait and switch. Here is what you get, and now you will pay for it, no questions asked. I will tell all of my friends and colleagues about this experience.After flying 4 1/2 hours this was what I walked into.In addition, the Ford given to my sis in law had a filthy bed containing gravel and rocks where they were supposed to store their belongings. Why bother making a reservation at all?Because I had to give a 1 star I did. That star will be for the ease of returning to the airport. Pull up, leave keys in car, agent outside checked us in and wished us a pleasant day.

Comment: Horrible now that I just got a text they are trying to blame Me for a dent that was on car when ai got it. It had a white pen arrow but barely can see it, also registration ran out in feb and I got it late march. They Are not going to put that dent on Me. Bad enough I got it with both exp tags and a dent. They never checked it ut for Me. They were closing gave Me the keys and paper work and said its in row 11 and it was dark and late. Im furious!

Comment: If you have a trip planned and are on a timeframe, dont rent from here. Your PRE RESERVED vehicle at a PRE RESERVED time, may not be ready and an upgraded vehicle that IS READY comes at a cost of $50+ a day. When most rental companies waive upgraded fees due to the inconvenience caused by not having your vehicle ready on time, this budget could care less. You wait an unknown timeframe or pay extra.

Comment: All reviews should be what the business would like to hear, as all reviews are addressing ones experience with the said business. But it appears that only the GOOD reviews are whats being sincerely embraced. Except and fix the concerns at hand! My experience was horrible, staff was unethical, falsifying customers request for self gain (bonuses). I have coverage twice over, and confirmed that with the front desk staff. I have no need for insurance with the coverage I already have, I not only confirmed with the staff, but she still put me down for insurance (bonus for her). There were a few other things that were very concerning as well, I addressed them all to the company who replied very nicely that they will fix things for me pretty much. Its not personal, its business!I PREPAID and booked prior to getting there as I wanted to ensure time management once there. The lady (staff) asked for my card and drivers license, and I provided it as I thought perhaps she needed to confirm me. Out of nowhere the lady swiped my card real fast, and thats where it started, I went off! She didnt ask, she didnt say anything, she just swiped. After I started in she apologized and said she normally communicate prior to swiping ones card, and she didnt know why she didnt that time.Im sorry, but this is something the business should embrace as well, not for just me, but for anyone coming up in there. You HAVE to have permission to charge someones card! Beware when doing business with the staff they currently have . They drive the cars (staff does), and you will foot the gas bill if not paying attention as well. They gave me a car a quarter off full, but requested a full tank upon arrival. The keys for the car I had was nowhere around, finally after so many issues I wanted a refund, and just leave. The lady (staff) stated I already rented the car and couldnt get my money back, I guess she hadnt met Judge Judy yet, smh. The other employee had the keys. Beware unethical proctices

Comment: Beware when renting a car from budget. Upon arrival We went directly to a budget Rent-A-Car and the price everything was just like we were expecting. However, I never in 1 million years expected to get an electric car . This was quite disturbing for myself, and my daughter, as we had numerous visits lined up and we’re basically on a time line. The lady we dealt with, at the counter was not very cooperative, but in the end, we finally got a card to our liking. I think it should be made very clear when you rent a car from a rental car company that the car will be an electric car and I know that in advance I would’ve never rented from budget

Comment: Worse rental car experience ever. Car was damaged a lot on back end with dents on the side. Seat warmers didnt work. Tires rattled - should have been rotated/repaired. Car had been smoked in (marajuana) so stunk. Had to walk in the rain to find car, with no help (and i am a member) . No one around anywhere to check the car with me.

Comment: Customer service was professional and helpful. The issue was with the vehicle. The outside of the vehicle was filthy, windshield cracked (didnt notice as it had rained that morning and water was streaking down the windshield) and the interior reaked of marijuana. My poor kid got nauseated due to the stench a few hours into our trip - even after spraying with fabreeze. Will not commit the same mistake in renting from this location again!

Comment: I recently had a great experience renting from Budget car rental. The Dodge Hornet I received was almost brand new with only around 700 miles on it. The all-wheel drive with brand-new tires was perfect for my needs. Despite arriving after midnight, the check-in process was smooth, efficient, and fast once the counter opened at around 5 am. Additionally, the lady at the rental desk was friendly and accommodating, enhancing the positive experience. Overall, I highly recommend Budget for their excellent service, and I wouldnt hesitate to rent from them again in the future.

Comment: First the good: customer service was excellent. Catalina was friendly, helpful and efficient as she moved through the many steps required to get a customer into a car.The bad part of this experience is that the only cars they had in the category I reserved were electric. I am renting a car at an airport and don’t have any idea how or where to charge the thing. As it turned out, charging would have been a huge problem as the chargers where I went were either broken or the wrong kind of charger. So I had to upgrade and pay more for the only gas vehicle available, which had one side of the front bumper detached from a previous accident, and was dirty. But it did get me around nicely and let me know I never want to buy a Mitsubishi vehicle.I should not have been charged to upgrade since the car I reserved was not available. Or maybe you should make electric vehicles a different category so people who want one can get one.Plus, electric vehicle batteries are built with elements mined by people who are basically slaves, and the batteries cause enormous damage to the ecosystem when they are no longer in use. The added weight of the cars also causes more tire shedding which is massively polluting our ground and air. They are not very eco friendly at all.The attendant when I dropped the car off was busy elsewhere, but signage and directions were good and made the 4 AM drop off experience painless and quick. So one star for that, one for Catalina, and one for the car getting me where I needed to go.

Budget gave me an inoperative GPS and would not swap it out for one that worked. Of course, they billed me for the GPS. I no longer trust Budget Car Rental.

Comment: Great guest service! Samir went above and beyond to get me a car after I came back and said that I didnt feel comfortable driving the one that they had given me. Wayne McMahon, was also great to make sure I was okay while I was waiting outside to get another vehicle, due that they were six people short where they bring the cars after people bring them back to get them clean. They both know what guest services about!!!! I didnt mind waiting because I know it wasnt their fault but yet they both was trying for me. Thank you to both of you!!!

Comment: DONT use Budget! Very deceptive. They call a Toyota Corolla the equivalent to an EV! No gas vehicle is equivalent to an electric vehicle. We were going to areas that never heard of charging stations. We ended up having to pay more to upgrade to a gas SUV. Then 10 min out of the airport we get a flat tire, but thats a whole other story.

Comment: I waited in line an hour for a car reservation I had set up a month ahead of time. When I finally got to the counter. Sam the agent, told me I could pay more more money and upgrade to a car he already had the keys for but I said no thanks. He then had me wait another 20 minutes at the counter to finish his paperwork with my credit card in the cc machine. It seemed like he really wasn’t doing anything other than keeping me waiting. He then asked again if I would like to take the available car for the additional price before he ran my credit card. I said no thanks again and he had me go wait in a waiting area for another 30 minutes for my original car of choice. When he finally decided enough time had passed, he called me back over and gave me the keys to a car that had been sitting outside in my view waiting for me the entire hour and a half. Really horrible customer service. Due to this experience, I will never choose budget rental car again. I travel a lot for work and have never had an issue like this with Avis, National or Enterprise.

After completing check-in for a car we had reserved in advance (which always takes a bizarrely lengthy time), we were assigned a vehicle and told to go sit down and wait for our name to be called. 20 minutes later, I went back to the counter and was told our vehicle had been assigned to someone else and they were waiting for another one. Coupled with the lethargic demeanor of the guys managing the vehicles — the antithesis of “hustle” — the disorganization and miscommunication among staff was mind-boggling. No more Budget (or affiliates) for us.

My only concern was that it appeared to be only one shuttle bus going from the terminal A to the car rental building. There was a long line of folks waiting for the shuttle and people just kept coming out of the terminal. Maybe next time, get two shuttles going so that folks are not waiting outside.

Comment: Truck was covered in scratches and was dirty. The bed had some dirt in it. The inside looked like 4 or 5 people were transported daily and used as a construction vehicle. The cracks in the dash were full of crumbs. I had to clean it twice because it was so filthy. The inside windshield looked like it was wiped down with a wet rag, I couldn’t even see out the windshield and had to pull over and clean it. An old sticker square was still on dash from maybe a cell phone? Several areas of the interior had some sort of white glue. When I saw the vehicle I videotaped it and filled out the paper sheet with all the scratches, then took it back up front for verification. The poor staff were so busy and short handed, I had to wait for them to sign off on it. Good thing I did as they took pictures when I came back. Out of state plates from Florida and I was in California. It definitely was a USED vehicle not taken care of.

Further the person did not tell me this and would not tell me the final bill nor print one out when I asked. Be sure to check your bill. Better - dont rent cars from Budget.

It was such an inconvenience because we were driving long distances and we were always needing to plan time (at least an hour) to charge the car. We’re not from the area so it’s not like we could just charge it at home.

On top of that I was issue a vehicle that had mechanical issues that cause the vehicle to make loud noises when driving. i was told that i would have to swap out the vehicle at another location which i got an attitude from the worker there due to them saying that it was a reoccurring issue with them having to swap out their vehicles for once with issues.

Comment: This time renting was not as bad - after renting from them for 1/12 years I come to expect never to get 5 stars for the price I pay. This time check in was great - but the car I asked for was a mid compact like a civic and I got an SUV gas prices is bad in Cali and it cost me 100.00. Check in was scary for they were screaming at me and others I understand that everyone was coming at the same time but they should understand we all have flight about the same time and should be ready for that.

Comment: I had an exceptional experience with Moosheen Ali from Budget Rental. He was incredibly friendly, accommodating, and went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. When my initially reserved car was not available, he personally took the initiative to find a car that I absolutely loved. What impressed me the most was his understanding of how important it was for my sons and mothers dance date, and he made sure everything was perfect. Not only was Moosheen professional and attentive, but I also discovered that he shares my passion for the Patriots, which added an extra level of camaraderie. I highly recommend Moosheen Ali for his outstanding customer service and dedication to making every interaction memorable.This is my experience and my experience only.

However, the last car I rented over the holidays from the Sacramento California airport location, from the car to the customer service, was a total disappointment. The prior renter of the vehicle had obviously smoked in marijuana in the car with the windows closed. So my family and I had to deal with a weed smell for almost 2 weeks. Every single time we got into the vehicle and we do not smoke. That weed smell is not for everybody. The air filter had not been changed or cleaned. So we had dry throats, continuous sinus infection and post nasal drip every single time we got into the car. In addition to that, the car had not been properly vacuumed because there were Cheetos. Underneath the 2 front seat, the door handles were sticky.And there were red stains, like bloodstains, on the driver seat. It was ridiculous. We picked up our car at night. So we didnt notice any of this and when I called customer service. The couple of days after I picked up the rental. They would not offer me any options to exchange the vehicle. And I had to stay with a long term rental for the whole two weeks. Lastly when I turned in the vehicle. I left my sunglasses in the center console underneath the Gear shift, I open up a loss property report. And I checked the website to see if lost and found had reported my sunglasses and they never did so whomever. The team is at this location that washes the vehicles. They dont report all the property that they find in the vehicles. I will never rent from this location again.

Comment: The vehicle I got was extremely dirty there was no vehicle inspection before I left The car also had Florida plates and in California thats not good at all because people break into vehicles without a state plate constantly. If you went over 75 in the vehicle I got it also shook and the traction on the tires because of low tire tread was a little ridiculous to say the least. Car had over 65k miles on it as well. At least pick up and drop off were ok. Didnt have any complaints about the customer service either. Wouldnt use them again.

When I told him that this was the first time I had ever had to wait for a vehicle to be prepared for a preplanned rental, he turned downright rude and insisted that this happens with every rental - this while all of the other agents at the counter was getting people into cars right away. I have never seen this while renting over the years across the US and Canada and in Europe. After about 40 minutes of waiting, the same agent came back with keys and brusquely told me that he had upgraded me because I had been forced to wait. He seemed aggrieved about...something. The upgrade turned out to be for an intermediate sized vehicle, exactly what i had rented. And it had not been washed! All of this After I had done the pre-checkin online at the Budget website. They asked if I could take another car, I said I could take a large SUV or truck, they didn’t have those either. I called to trade out the vehicle, they sent me to a local location about 30 minutes away. They will not tell you you have to wait for the car until you are ready to get the keys. Also, make sure you check your receipt. I filled my tank and had a receipt and they still said the tank was a fraction of a gallon less than full and charged a premium ($9.99) for a gallon of gas along with a fuel service fee of $18.99 along with the taxes and fees that go with those extras.

I was on a tight schedule, and was offered a Mustang hybrid and when i asked about the mpg, I was told that it was a vehicle that did not have its mpg listed in the system. Through a google search i was assured it would get 90+ mpg. After signing the contract and getting my keys, i came to find that the real mpg was 26mpgs. Very frustrating! This cost me extra in my rental contract ($25 a day) and in gas (I paid over $120 in gas). Both the inside and outside of my rental this past week was filthy and to make it worse, a gross smell came out of the vents every time I turned on the air conditioning. The customer service is usually okay but this last time, the representative tried to trick me into purchasing the extra insurance coverage. He said “do you want the car coverage or the total coverage?” and did not say the extra costs. It was not until reviewing the cost breakdown on the contract on the screen before signing it, that I realized he added the extra $25 a day coverage without my consent. I asked him to remove it and he gave me attitude that he would have do my contract over again. I certainly will be choosing another company the next time I am in need of a rental car.

So were are now out $450 for hotel, $741 for the rental and both adults missing a day of work. Horrible experience with this company.

One of them then said they could help me but required I walk down to where they were. I wanted a small suv similar to my Subaru Forrester. Instead, I was first given a three row monster. After I walked all the way back to the office/center, I was given a smaller, not small, but smaller suv. It was acceptable but showed a message that it needed a filter and oil change. Both cars were from Florida and both had a lot of minor damage and were dirty. Your people said that was normal and they didnt consider it a problem. I spent a lot of time photographing the damage. Bottom line: the customer service at the Sacramento location is awful. The guys would obviously rather visit with each other than help a customer. I should at the very least have been given a voucher for a car wash.

The agents at roadside assistance were helpful and eventually the car was towed. Budget did get us an UBER, but we missed our flight and got a later one. Had the agent at the Budget counter written the correct identifier number on the tag with the fob, the process would have gone more smoothly.

The car was fast when it needed to be and easy to understand and use upon first sitting in the drivers seat.There were two things that I would check:1) if I tried to turn the car off and the drivers door was closed, the radio/media kept running. To shut that off as I exited the car, I had to open the drivers door (at which point the radio did shut off).2) I know it rarely rains in Sacramento so I’m guessing this aspect of the car was not checked. The windshield wipers were really worn out and didn’t clean well when it rained on my way to the airport to drop the car off. The blades need to be replaced.

Comment: On Tuesday August 29th I returned my rental car and keys to the airport, and I asked the attendant if I needed to go to the counter to check it back in and he said no, that he had done that and that I just needed to take the shuttle to the airport. Then, on Friday, September 1st I get a text reminding me that my rental was 3 days overdue. I called customer service and they said they would take care of it. Then, I got an email with the final billing, and they still charged me for the three additional days. So, I called customer service again and they said they would take care of it. Comment: I wish there was a way to give zero stars. We arrived to Sacramento and requested the car to be available at 6:30. We arrived up to the counter at 6:35 PM with four hungry children and there was no car available for us. They told us they were cleaning one. It would be available in 15 minutes. 30 minutes later I asked to speak to a manager and he told me he would go check on the car so I watch Amanda slowly over to the cleaning area and about 10 minutes later the clerk at the counter tells me that they have another car available for us hands me the key and tells me the spot that it’s in. Why would they not just give that car at 6:30 to begin with?Then, upon returning the car, we stopped at the airport gas station and filled up the gas tank. Not thinking, because we have four children that we’re traveling with to ask for the receipt there. I received the receipt through email when we got to our gate and they charged us an additional $140 as a fuel surcharge. Then, when I called the company, they had no one to help me and were extremely rude, and not at all empathetic on the phone. One of the guys even refused to give me his name and told me I didn’t need it over and over and over again. This is the second time that we’ve had a bad experience through budget… So it’s probably time to consider paying a bit more for a rental car in order to not have to deal with this.

Comment: Our rental experience at SMF was terrible. A Jeep Wrangler was substituted for our requested SUV. We are both 74 years old and it was almost impossible to get in and out of. We were not told about the substitution and didnt find out until we walked out into the lot. The lines were too long to go back. We got between 15 and 18 miles per gallon and ended up spending a ton on gas. If your car is being substituted, they should inform you so you can accept their decision. This car was just terrible. Very, very unhappy about it.

Comment: We landed into SMF the night of 8/11/23 from a delayed flight. One of our baggage pieces was missing and still lost to this day. Rental car shuttles were slow and appeared to be short staffed. There was a mob of people waiting for it and no one to maintain the line on the curb. When the shuttle arrived the crowd rushed it and politeness ignored. The same scenario occurred with the next shuttle bus. We finally made it on to the 3rd bus. The driver was friendly and easy to chat with. This was all feeling like a setup for a bad experience but i’m telling you, Budget turned that whole night around.The rental car line had maybe 5 people ahead of us. The guy at the counter handled them all with ease and the line dwindled down quickly. When it was our turn, he was friendly without being overly chatty(thanku). He was efficient, knowledgable and quick. The truck was fairly clean and handled smoothly all week.Upon the return, early in the morning, the staff was again very friendly. Not in the talk your ear off kind of way but in their manner of assessing my need and approaching with a solution. The man who met us showed extraordinary kindness in helping us find our way to our airline curbside with all of our bulky luggage pieces. We kept talking about it in the days that followed our trip how much we enjoyed our rental experience with SMF BUDGET folks and look forward to the next one. It was so good on every level. We ourselves work in the customer service industry and give as much of ourselves to the company. We recognize genuineness in others and we saw it in these people at SMF BUDGET. The caliber of people on this team is special. They care about your customer experience and it shows, or maybe they’re just the kind of people who empathize often with their fellow humans. Either way, it shows and I was on the receiving end of all that positivity. They made me believe I deserve good things. How could we not return for a repeat good memory? Comment: There are many other car rental options at Sacramento airport. DO NOT USE BUDGET RENTALS. I arrived at 11am, I stood in the pick up line for over an hour to get the keys to my rental. Many other others were beyond agitated as well. I dropped off at 3 am and accidentally left a key on the rental car keys and it has been absolute chaos attempting to retrieve that. 1. There is no way to call and contact an agent at this location. The number customer service provided does not work. When I came in person to retrieve my item the individuals at the desk told me they don’t know what that # is .. + they do not answer phones.FYI about the lost and found process … they don’t label “car rental agreement # … lost item description etc.” No, that would make too much sense to organize lost items for quick retrieval. They just put everything they find that day into a bin. The bin goes to an administrative office off site. I have to submit a request, wait for the key to show up on their lost and found list online. Then I can drive back and sort through a BIN OF KEYS to find my key. Y’all I am in town working for a company. I do not know what this key looks like amongst other keys lol! When I viewed the list and my item was not on there they told me my car was rented out 3 hours after I dropped it off so they said my key may still be on the rental car ring and I have to wait for the car to be returned. When you’re a RENTAL car company… you would think priority would be to make every step of renting seamless… from a quick pick up to an ease with any issues such as forgotten items.+++ I filled the tank up at the airport gas station and I noticed a $20 gas charge when I received my billing summary several hours later. When I called customer service to dispute they said I would have to wait for the rental ticket to “close out” in approx. 24-48 hours ( gas charge + rental charge hit my account and everything). Then I could go online and submit a claim for the $$ back. Why did I even put the $12 of gas in the tank to fill up if I was going to have MORE work to do essentially such as call / online claims etc. to get my money back? It’s bad business they operate this way.and in my eyes a way to scam their customers.0/10 I’d rather Uber next time.

I came back 1 hour later and was told vehicle was already cleaned and rented out again within 25 minutes and no items came to lost and found. I spoke with management and they checked video and stated nothing was taken out of car as it was on video surveillance the entire time of 25 minutes it was there. I asked to see the video and they would not let me see it. I find it highly unlikely the entire time the vehicle was driven and cleaned it was on video and the management declined any request to just let me review it with them. Basically, I had $800+ worth of items stolen from their employees and when I asked management to reimburse the $300 rental amount, which wouldnt even cover part of what was stolen, they declined as well. Comment: Budget was much better than Hertz Rental . We reserved a 7 passenger car with Hertz and found out the one they have available does not have enough trunk space. We asked for an exchange since the equivalence vehicle was not big enough. They would not give us an equivalent car without extra charges. So we cancelled the transaction which was not convenient neither. We went over to Budget and got a 7 passenger minivan with lots of leg room and trunk space that we needed for $500 less out the door. We regretted our initial reservation with Hertz. Should’ve reserve with Budget and saved all the headaches. Service was fantastic and we got our car in less than 10 minutes from the time we started talking to them to when they handed us the keys. Comment: I love Budget. I love FastBreak. But, in 45 years of renting cars, the Nissan Altima that I received with my reservation at the Sacramento International Airport was the WORST prepared car I’ve ever received! The car was filthy! The entire back end exterior of the car was covered with a thick, opaque layer of… who knows what? I’m guessing it was dried soap suds/film. It was like someone started to wash the car, lathered up the entire car and then decided to rinse off just the hood and front windshield. It was so bad that after, leaving the airport, anytime I was driving with the sun at my back, I could not see through the rear window (or use my rear view mirror). I might as well have been driving in the wintertime with an inch-thick layer of ice covering the entire rear window. It was terribly unsafe... The irony of all of this was that there actually was a postcard-sized sticker attached to the inside of the front window right in front of the driver seat that proudly proclaimed how clean the car was! What a joke! On top of this never-before-experienced problem, I found myself driving a vehicle with more miles than my own car back home. The car had over 40,000 miles on it. Thankfully, I never needed to use the windshield wipers. As I was driving the car, the airflow passing over the front of the car kept kicking up loose pieces of the deteriorating windshield wipers. I could only imagine what my view out of the front window would have been if it had started raining... Though, come to think of it, at least I would have likely finally been able to see out the rear window if the rain had successfully rinsed off the thick, white residue blocking my rear view... Crazy!!

Comment: My experience with Budget was extremely disappointing. After traveling only 52 miles in the Camry we were given at the Sacramento airport, the front drivers side tire exploded on the freeway. This was NOT a flat. The tire disintegrated. We were stuck on the shoulder of a very busy freeway, waiting for assistance. Finally CHP arrived, and called a tow to get us off the freeway. The damage was such that a flatbed was required. After being towed to a local Chevron station, Budget Roadside Assistance told us that they would send their tow truck to take the car back to the airport, and deliver a new car to us, which never happened. We spent the entire afternoon waiting for a tow, communicating with RA frequently and texting with THREE different two companies who were supposed to come get us. The RA program is terrible. They were of very little help...apparently just reading off a script. When the third tow company arrived to take the car, the driver told us there was no room in his cab to transport us back to the airport to get a new car. Eventually this was resolved, he took us back to Sacramento airport (with the car) and a new car was given. We lost an entire day waiting for help with YOUR defective car, and lost a days activities at the hotel in San Francisco that we had already paid for. We ended up returning the second rental car early, as it had been broken into in the hotel parking lot and the rear window was in shreds. Again, Roadside Assistance was of very little help. We did make a police report of the damage, and decided we would just return the car a day early. Also, as an aside, BOTH cars given to us had a very odd filmy residue on the windows and side mirrors; not noticeable initially, but as the days wore on and the sun was lower in the sky, the film made it difficult to see behind us to change lanes. Very dangerous! The final bill reflected no credit for early return or for major inconvenience. I would never use Budget again.

I was trying to get out as quickly as possible and although I initially said I would fill the tank before returning the car, the agent blatantly lied and said a special deal was being offered and the gas price Budget offered was much cheaper than what was available in the area. Since I flew in from out-of-state, the agent likely assumed I did not know better (and he was right). Additionally, he did not tell me I was getting a hybrid and would use very little gas over the 3 days I had the car. In fact, he lied again and assured me, based on my destinations, that I would likely use a full tank of gas. I barely used one-quarter of a tank. I feel Budget defrauded me and I will let everyone I know aware of this.

Comment: I reserved an infant car seat for my 4 month old 15 pound grandson. I did this over a month in advance. Upon arrival at the Sacramento Airport we waited in line 90 minutes to get a car and when I inquired about the infant car seat I was told they only had a booster seat and that a booster seat is fine for a 4 month old baby. After insisting on an infant seat somehow they found one. I was charged $167 for a dirty car seat with the infant insert missing. I checked online and a brand new car seat of the same model costs only $79.99. Why is Budget doubling the charge of a legal requirement for safely transporting an infant? Terrible service and bad business model. I had to immediately use the rental car to drive to a Target to purchase a safe car seat for my grandson.

Comment: I was happy to rent a Tesla Model Y, However Budget did not supply an adapter for Non Tesla chargers, nor a basic 110 charging cable. I did not realize this until I went to charge the car up. I was in remote areas on my travels and there were no Tesla Superchargers available. I would have been willing to pay a deposit on these items, but was not offered such a thing. I ended up going to a destination charge station that took 10 hours to charge up. The people were very kind to help me out as it was at their cost.

Our Chrysler Pacifica (hybrid) took us to the Muir Woods, Baker Beach, and Yosemite National Park with ample space, leg room, comfort, and economy. Comment: Disappointed from service at pick-up, condition of vehicle, to difficulty in dropping off (no signs where to drop off car). No floor mats; carpet worn all the way through; windshield wipers were so worn out they were useless (dangerous when we hit the rain outside of Folsom); & lots of dings on the body. Saving grace was the awesome shuttle driver that helped us with our bags from the drop-off to departure terminal.

Comment: I was pressured into buying insurance coverage that I stated I did not need. The car had some sort of bodily fluid all over the center console and front part of the passenger seat/floor. I did not notice when I first entered the car with my daughter. When we arrived at our destination I exited the vehicle then turned back to grab something and noticed it. Totally disturbing. We had to ride back with me sitting in it as it had been baked onto the fabric and plastic console. I reported it when we got back and they did not seem to care.

Comment: The car model I rented at Budget was not available. The car that was offered to me reeked of cigarette smoke and my children and I are strongly allergic. When I returned to the counter and asked for a smoke-free car stating that the car I was offered was a smoking car, the salesperson made fun of me, asking if he should call 911 and report a fire. Only when I strenly repeated my request and told him I am allergic to cigarette smoke, did he stop laughing and got serious, but did not offer any apologies for making fun of me. I did not think this was funny at all. The car I eventually got had 43000 miles on it. It had bad windshield wiper blades and on the last day of my rental the emission control system malfunction warning came on. When I returned the vehicle, the agent who accepted the return never asked me anything about the cars performance. I can not recommend Budget to anyone.

Comment: Rented a car from the Sacramento Airport location. Inquired into what I needed to do, to go on the toll bridges as I had planned on going to San Francisco for the day. Woman at the counter told me I had to go online and apply for some sort of a pass linking the license plate on my rental to the toll system. After a half hour of trying to do this and been repeatedly denied because the plate was registered to a rental car company I went back to the counter to ask for help and she was very rude in her response pretty much stating that Im on my own. As it turns out, I didnt really have to apply for anything and that the plate on my rental would be linked to my rental contract and I would pay at the end of my rental term. Surely, you would think that this wasnt the first time someone would rent a car in Sacramento and want to drive over a toll bridge into San Francisco. Employees at this location should try to educate their selves a bit better on this. Also my rental car had expired tags from Washington. Maybe it was insured, maybe it wasnt. Just fortunate that I wasnt pulled over by the police that would have added further stress to my holiday.

Comment: I was enjoying my vacation when all of a sudden the coolant level lamp came on. I had to calm my womenfolk first, then troubleshoot, then look for an auto parts store in the mountains. Found store, bought coolant, brought level up, which satisfied the engine light but not the womenfolk. While performing Budgets maintenance for them I noticed evidence of a past boil over and oil spray on the engine. Got back to the house and parked the car that night, keeping in mind I would have to check the coolant level in the morning. It was at minimum again, so its leaking. When I moved the car there was a sizable puddle of oil on the driveway, which got me in trouble with the homeowners association of where I was staying. Had to go buy degreaser to clean driveway and street so they would not hold it against my host. On the minor side, the windshield wiper was too long for that car. It was irritating to hear the constant banging on the side of the windshield. I called Budget to come get this lemon, but they had nothing available close to me and made a resolution difficult. I made numerous phone calls and finally told them to just forget it, I will leave the car parked until I leave. Needless to say I lost money and confidence in Budget. This did not just happen... They are not doing their maintenance!!!! Also, after traveling cross country I had to wait uncomfortably in line for about an hour and 20 minutes to get the darn thing. Only Budget had a huge line at Sacramento. Other customers were in and out.

Comment: I have rented from this location plenty of times and never had an issue or problem. Due to a consistency of delayed flights by Spirit Air, my arrival time at budget was an hour and a half past expected. This most likely lead to the absence of the vehicle I had reserved and hoped to procure. The staff seemed a bit out of rhythm, but after some shuffling were able to secure a rental that would be adequate for my journey. Whilst upon the road it was soon discovered that this vehicle may have missed some steps in the cleaning process as well as some minor maintenance, a topic I planned to address when returning. Overall the car did everything I needed and provided safe comfortable passage to and fro my destinations. After leaving the formidable form of transportation in the hands of its caretakers, the staff at Budget, I whisked off to my shuttle and another chance of redemption with Spirit. (no surprise, late again). With the extra non requested stale minutes, I checked emails. Discovering quickly that the modest expected charges for rental had become nothing short of astronomical. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing and decided to write a strongly worded review, knowing that my next morning would be vastly spent effectively communicating with someone in the Budget corporation. Thankfully I never was burdened the time taken task of dealing with customer service as the manager Zavier was already on the task. I was sent an email of how truly disappointing it was for them to hear about my dissatisfaction and opened a line of communication. After some brief correspondence and a detailed timeline of my journey, Zavier made everything right and sent me the correct invoice and an apology. He even gave me a follow up call which I appreciated greatly. People make mistakes, computers have glitches and sometimes things just go awry, that’s life. What does truly make the difference is how it is handled aft, and you Mr. Zavier are a true professional and an asset to Budget.

Comment: I left my AirPods in the vehicle when I returned it. Went back to get them and couldn’t get a straight answer where the vehicle was. I told the employee I could see exactly where it was on find my phone then all of a sudden they told me my AirPods were in the lost and found. They were not. All I got was a stupid phone tree, two miserable representatives, one of whom gave me the wrong information about the hours. I could have picked up my car because the location was still open. Shouldnt a customer service representative know the correct hours? Instead, I spent $50 on Ubers going to my hotel and then to pick the car up the next day. However, at pick up at the Sacramento airport the line had to have 50 folks waiting to pick up their vehicle. There were only two representatives processing this crowd. Drop off was easy, just drove up to a drop off area and there was an attendee there scanning the car to finalize the return of the vehicle.

I understand that most of the time, they won’t have the car you reserved, but in typical Jeep fashion it quickly started throwing Check Engine lights and overheating. After taking the shuttle to the rental building I waited in line for service for over an hour and 20 minutes even though I had completed everything online and while only one of several agents helped customers (and that agent seemed in no hurry). Finally two other agents decided to help as customer and their children got impatient. When I finally got to the counter I was told the car I reserved was not available and that the car that was available right then without further wait was over double the cost of what I reserved! I was already running late and couldn’t afford more of a delay so took the car offered and paid the ridiculous price, but will never use this rental car company again, nor recommend them. This was a horrible experience!

Comment: I rented a car at the Sacramento Airport office for 3 days last month. I was grossly dissatisfied with the service that was provided in accepting the vehicle. The clerk acted in a very snippy and curt manner, unable or unwilling to answer most of my questions (e.g., general driving directions to my destination) and providing only the most basic info. The Garmin GPS she provided had a dead battery requiring an exchange at the outset. No apology was offered--only a shrug of the shoulders. The new GPS did not have any audio, but I left the office as I was running late. Upon returning the vehicle, the attendant did not initially note that the gas tank was full, so I had to spend time reversing the fuel charge. The service was by far the worst Ive ever experienced at a car rental agency.

Comment: I would not recommend Budget Car Rental to a friend or loved one, however, I would recommend them to a person I didn’t like very much if I wanted them to have a bad car rental experience.We took a trip from Sacramento, CA to Peoria, AZ and booked a rental with Budget.The first thing I should mention is that no pre-trip inspection was ever done to look for dents/dings/scratches, etc.When we received the car the first thing we noticed was that it was very dirty (on the inside and outside).There was a strange substance in all the air vents in the front which blew a white/powdery residue on us.The car smelled strongly of smoke, so I guess the $450 smoking fee does not go to cleaning/smell removal.Worse though was the fact that the air pressure in the tires was very low and uneven but the TPMS was not indicating that there was a problem or that any of the tires were low. The air in the tires was 20/20/21/45 (should have been 35 PSI) so we fixed that ourselves.One of the license plates lights was out which we also fixed so we wouldn’t be pulled over.One of the reverse lights was out.Just for fun we checked the oil and it was about a quart low.When we returned the rental I asked to speak with a manager so I could report the safety issues we had but there was not a manager on duty. They said they would get a shift lead to speak with me but after the worker went into the office to get them she just came out with a Budget brochure with the customer service number highlighted and told me to call them, which I did.The customer service rep said they would pass along the issues but really from start to finish in this whole process it didn’t seem like anyone cared.Will not be renting from Budget again and would not recommend them. Pay a little more and go through Enterprise.

Budget at Sacramento then charged me $1134.31 even though the rental was for one day less. I had called them the night before as soon as I found that we would be delayed and I was told No problem and that the contract was good for 24 hours, the people at the Budget counter said that since we did not arrive on the contracted date, their computer would not let them honor the original contract price.

Comment: All of the cars on the lot looked to be pretty banged up. The car I was given was covered in dents and scratches. The inside was so dirty like they never bothered to clean it once. Seats all had stains, dirt all over the floors. The entire car smelled like cat urine and the ac unit smelled even worse. When brought to their attention they didnt really seem to care at all and just shrugged it off. Prices were also way over what was quoted with all the hidden fees they tack on. Comment: I was able to reserve a certain vehicle during my trip to Sacramento. When I arrived not only the vehicle was not available, not even the same style vehicle was available. Why allow a person to reserve a style of vehicle, if you are just going to hand you the keys that you have laying on the counter, because it is convenient. The vehicle I did receive didnt have the windows washed, it was driving through a fog until I could get products to clean the windows. Comment: Tire Blow Out caused by pure Negligence for allowing a balding tire with the metal strands showing to be rented from Sacramento International Airport. Alignment was out to cause this and another tire was almost at the legal limit on the tread markings. It took over a day to receive a new vehicle which took away valuable limited time I had for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. Avis Budget put my family and others lives at risk. You have caused severe stress on my wife who is expecting and it was a slap to my face for customer service to offer me a $200 refund for the trouble and then when I said I wasnt satisfied I took it to Customer Escalation they said the best they could do was a $300 refund. Double check your rental car tires before you drive off with it because apparently Avis Budget doesnt really seem to care about routine maintenance or customer satisfaction along with your safety.

Comment: Rental counter experience was reasonable. Neither good nor bad per say. There was no customer service beyond the counter. Difficult to locate actual vehicle and vehicle itself was absolutely filthy inside and out. Trash and yard debris from previous renter. There was no checkout point either to sign off. Vehicle had not been washed or vacuumed. Windshield was covered in bugs. I stopped at the nearest store to buy disinfecting wipes to try and at least clean off steering wheel, door handles and shift knob. But it was pretty gross. In addition I had rented a midsize vehicle hoping for fuel economy and enough power for navigating bay area traffic. The only vehicle they had available was a crossover that did not have enough power to change lanes safely in busy city traffic. The engine would whine and spin but no power response to actually move the vehicle forward at acceleration. I returned the vehicle cleaner and with more gas than I had picked it up with. Theres really no excuse to not deliver a clean, well maintained rental vehicle.

Comment: Worst car rental experience ever! Prepaid and chose Fastbreak to save time since we were landing at 10:30pm. Called Budget location earlier that day to confirm that the Fastbreak would be open when we arrived - ensured it would be open until 12AM. When we arrived told Fastbreak was closed and had to wait 30 minutes for a car - this while getting the stink eye from all the other customers who did not choose Fastbreak and had to wait on line for 1 hour (we have a friend who was in that unfortunate situation). FIRST car I received, yes FIRST, was provided with marker writings all over the windows stating cracked windshield repair needed. It also was smaller than I reserved. I refused that car. The SECOND car provided came with an empty tank. See photo. That car also had to be returned. Glad I checked the tank since Budget clearly did not upon return. The THIRD car was provided with only three-quarters of the tank full. At that point, I was so frustrated and the kids were so tired, I drove off. I regret not taking a photo of that tank! With gas prices what they are now, that could easily have tacked on another $10-$15 on my rental. SUCH POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Very disappointed with Budget.

Comment: Made my reservation to pick up my rental car at 2pm and it’s currently 2.30pm. There was 3 agents by the kiosk and now we’re down to 1, when the line barely moved. I’ve been queueing since 1.40… This is just ridiculous. Judging by how slow the line moves, it probably would take me another 30+ mins to get my rental.I also would like to emphasis that it’s not this one agent’s fault. Im sitting here at the airport with a long line of customers and Budget has one inept representative with that not so bright look on their face who couldnt hit the floor if they fell on it. On December 7th, 2020 I received the following letter:Unfortunately, as we processed the vehicle that you returned to the Budget location at SACRAMENTO INTL APO,6420 MCNAIR CIRCLE on 11/17/2020, we discovered Pet Hair in the Interior of the car.In accordance with our rental policies, when our vehicles are returned with excessive soilage, we must assess customers for the cleaning service required to return the vehicle to a tidy and sanitary condition that will meet the next customers expectations.The credit card you used for this rental will be billed $479.00 for the required cleaning service.Initially when reading the letter and seeing the amount they wanted to charge I thought maybe I violated some terms of service by having a pet in the vehicle. After thoroughly reading the Rental Terms and Conditions there was nothing that indicated any such violation, in fact the specific verbiage they are hanging this charge on is as follows:8.2: You will also pay a reasonable fee for cleaning the cars interior upon return for excessive stains, trash, dirt, soilage or odors attributable to your use.That same day I called their Customer Care team as the letter instructed if I had any questions or concerns regarding the fee. The call resulted in a dispute being submitted to which I was told I would receive an email response within a few days, which I received later that evening. After several email exchanges they continue to dodge and avoid providing any reasonable explanation as to how they arrived at $479 and refuse to provide a copy of the receipt for the detailing performed on the vehicle.As I indicated in my initial email response, this is not only the first time, but will be the last time, I will ever conduct any business with Budget or a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group.

Comment: To try and save a few dollars I end up paying way more. When i return the car I end up with aditional charges and no one has been able to explain what are the charges for. Then a week later they charge the credit card $250 for cleaning. I will never use this company ever again you can judge if the cleaning is worth $250 here are the pictures they provide

Comment: I would give no stars if I could!!!!! First off the guy who made my reservations (didnt speak English very well..) & messed up my reservation!! I ordered the car for 3 days & ended up getting it for 2, to where I had to pay an extra day!! Then they told me (the location I picked up from..) Would be open on my return date (Labor day..) but it was closed so I had to drop off 11 miles further, & be charged an extra $50!! I was given a grace period for drop off (30mins..extension because of the new location distance from me..) & I ended up being charged for that as well $78 for the hour (which I shouldnt have been..)!! I paid $383.56 in total & this was without insurance, because my AAA covered me!! The next day Budget charged me ANOTHER $383.56!!!!!!!!! I called immediately, & the first 2 customer service reps tried to tell me its because the new drop off location & the extra hour (which I shouldnt have been charged for, & I already paid in my total..)!! They are taking their sweet time crediting my account that is now overdrawn & sending me through hoops!!

Comment: Everything was perfect, except the line waiting to get the car. We waited for almost an hour in line. However, when I got to the front, the employee was very sweet. Since Budget had been so busy and cars were going quickly, they only had two options at the time. She said we could get a slightly lower grade car then we paid for or we could get a Mustang Convertible for $10 a day more. After hearing it was a convertible, I decided to pay a little more to have that car. Well worth it! When I dropped the car off in the morning, the man that inspected it was super friendly and outgoing. He made being up so early much more enjoyable. Thank you for a great, fun car and a good experience. We will definitely be back.

Comment: Long lines and workers work at 2-3 different rentals. Car we got was dirty. Didn’t want to come back and exchange due to long lines with them taking so long

Comment: On February 20, 2019 I spent an hour and a half waiting in a line that stretched and blocked the next rental companies line. I asked how long some of the folks towards the front had been waiting, and they said better than an hour. I could not happen but to notice them running keys in as people were signing contracts. They had no additional cars to rent. People who had reservations were leaving and going to other counters to rent cars. My reservation was pre-paid, so I assumed my reservation would be met. as after an hour and a half in line, I finally got to the counter, only to find out my prepaid Escape, or like car per their ad, ended up getting me offered a mini van. Really? A mini van? I chose to wait what I thought would be a few minutes to see what might drive back into the lot. After an additional hour of additional waiting on a bench waiting for keys, The counter clerk looked over and asked if I was still waiting for keys. I replied, yep, Im still waiting. So when I did finally get my keys, I looked at the clock and noted how much of my hard earned vacation time had just got wasted by Budget. A total of 2 1/2 hours. Oh, and when I drove off the lot, just in time for late afternoon rush hour traffic. I had planned my time off to maximize time spent with family. Man the start at the rental agency was the worse. I would steer clear of Budget, as this was my second bad experience with Budget. The other time was at Denver Internationals Budget agency. I will not subject myself to a third round of waiting in line, and not having a car that was pre-paid for. Their business model is dysfunctional at best. I really enjoyed the part when one of the Counter people had had enough, and went into the back room and hid. My frustration now is being vented on Social media to warn other future customers what kind of nightmares may be waiting for them at the Budget counter. What a sad company. I would have given it 0 stars, but it would not let me post until I marked at least 1 star....

Comment: The Prius was nice, even had adaptive cruise on it. The problems came after the right, rear tire exploded on the freeway... In the middle of nowhere. This in and of itself was scary, but I understand these things happen. The problems came from Budget customer service. They told me it would be at least an hour, and someone would only come to change out this tire for the spare tire, leaving me to travel the rest of my trip on a donut, at 55 miles per hour. As soon as I mentioned I could change the spare tire sooner than they could get there, the representative hung up on me. I changed the tire in a pencil skirt and began a series of seven to eight phone calls two different Budget rental agencies to trade out the car. I finally found one 2 hours out of my way, and this was during normal business hours. After arriving at my destination 4 hours late, and missing my business meeting, I thought my worries were over. Two weeks later, surprise!... I received a bill for roadside services rendered! I calmly called and explained the situation, and they very quickly reversed the charges, but this just further confirmed I will never, ever, ever use Budget again!

Comment: Quality car, clean. But line took an hour, much longer than any other rental companys line. Very understaffed, while the few tellers are laughing and chatting. Line overflowed into other section of terminal. Probably will try to not use Budget in the future, but hard to choose sometimes on Priceline etc
