We head into Cafe Rica 3-4 times a month, typically Sunday’s & Mondays! They have the best area to sit outside. We recently discovered you can order online and do curbside pickup where they bring your coffee out to you, which is huge when I have the baby.Thank you Cafe’ Rica for the best lavender lattes and caprese wraps around!
A true gem of a cafe in battle creek! The espresso martinis are delicious, as are their coffee drinks and seasonal lemonade (especially if you like it tart!). The toastadas are unique and well crafted with a good balance in flavors from all the ingredients. Staff is friendly and accomodating, bringing us several water cups for our hot pups. I look forward to coming here any time I am in the area :)
The pour overs were delicious, cookie was perfect, and we even got some cold brews for later. The owner was kind and so helpful, taking the time to help us out, even though they were closing for the holiday. We were bummed they were closed for breakfast the next morning, but our brief experience was the best.
I’ve ordered iced coffee from this place twice on Grubhub. Both times the coffee was really disgusting in water down. The coffee I just got is literally transparent. This place is literally two minutes down the road from me. It seems like they just prepare the food and throw it in a bag and don’t care about how long it’s just sitting there before it reaches the customer. I won’t be ordering from here ever again because I was very disappointed in both the cold brew and the waffle sandwich. I honestly am not sure how this place has such good reviews considering it’s highly overpriced for the quality.
Ordered the Breakfast Waffle Sandwich, the Rosti Pollo, and a cafe miel. The cafe miel was very good with light honey and cinnamon touches to already good coffee. The waffle breakfast sandwich was also very good. The Rosti Pollo is quite possibly the best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had. The red chili sauce and peach jam knock it out of the park.
This place has a lot going for it. The atmosphere, the employees, and the creativity in the seasonal menus. With that said Im subtracting 1 star based on the ingredients. The cheese on their quesadilla and other items is a major detractor from what could be very good dishes if higher quality cheeses were used.
One of THE gems of Battle Creek. Legitimately, never had a bad meal or bad service. Seems like staff enjoy working here and it shows. Alcohol drinks are high quality, not cheap heavy syrup based. Their coffee has spoiled me to the point that starbucks is no longer the treat it once was. Atmosphere is exactly as a coffee shop should be. Well done Bredehofts!
Cafe Rica’s quality is beyond your typical coffee shop. The staff are phenomenal, the food is incredible, and the coffee is to die for. Big city quality in a small town. My lunch time go-to of a kickin’ grilled cheese +steak and a manhattan with oat-milk is *chef’s kiss*.
I remember this cafe from its days in the shipping container. I havent gone back since, because I didnt particularly enjoy the coffees they served. I get it, they were limited with what they could do in a shipping container. I am kicking myself for not supporting this company since their move, and I apologise for that. My order today was a decaf caramel latte and a breakfast quesadilla. They were both delicious. The cafe itself is stunning, with real plants all over, and a selfie wall, which I regretfully forgot to take a picture of or with. I guess Ill just have to go back.
Ive had the pleasure of watching Tristan and Jackson grow from an e-commerce store, to a popup coffee shop at trade shows and events, to their first location in a modified shipping container (very cool btw), to a legit brick and mortar location on W Michigan Ave, to a soon to be opened permanent location in the heart of downtown. These two have been through a lot along their journey and they never once thought about quitting. They embody the Battle Creek drive and spirit. I will continue to support them until my teeth decay from too much coffee!
This is my absolute favorite place in Battle Creek. During the COVID pandemic while my schools were all virtual I would sit in their cafe for hours to do school work. The staff is super friendly and works to get to know you. Ive been a fan of cafe rica since they were in the cargo boxes and it is super exciting to see how much theyve grown.
I love how spacious this place is. It is bright and welcoming. I tried seasonal apple pie latte and it was delicious. I also had the seasonal Cider Mill Waffles - extremely good. This was my first time here. I have been wanting to try Cafe Rica for a long time. Hopefully next time I can dine in and enjoy the nice outdoor seating. I also love that they aspire to be as earth-friendly as possible.
Cafe Rica controls and curates the culture in Battle Creek. Tristan and Jackson are doing a great service to the local Battle Creek area. These brothers are next level community builders.Edit: I cant believe I wrote this entire review without mentioning how great the cold brew coffee is. Its seriously the best coffee Ive ever had. Highly recommend Cafe Rica in Battle Creek.
Very nice service and a nice atmosphere. Pricing is similar to other coffee joints, but the coffee here is great! I dont like it when youre coffee is so sweet with sugar and flavorings that you can hardly taste the coffee. Thats not the case here. I got the Maple Latte, and I could actually taste the maple and the coffee. Good Job Cafe Rica!
Absolutely fantastic drinks, people and atmosphere. Locally owned as well, which is a plus. Very friendly, accomadating and inviting. They have patio seating as well as indoor. Theyve got a cute little to-go section of crafted canned drinks you can take home, also merch for the store. Will continue to come here as long as theyre open! Their chai is great, get the iced chai for a surprise twist in the drink, works really well. :)
Cute place. Good decor good vibes. Ample parking (on account of lack prnpopularity of downtown battlecreek...). Polite staff.Had a turmeric latte, son had a gingerpom drink. Came back for a bagel.Could use a revisit to try some more items on menu but five stars from me for now
Café Rica is one of those places where you walk in and just get a good vibe. And thats just walking in the door! Everything about Café Rica rocks, from the food to the coffee and even the way its decorated, its very aesthetically pleasing. I especially love how they incorporate local artists work as part of their interior decoration. How it doubles as a way for those artists to make money (cause you can buy the paintings right off the wall) and get recognition for their work. Last but certainly not least, yall gotta snag some of their merch. Its legit, everything from the stickers to the clothes to the water bottle.
Ordered through Grubhub.I was confused by the quality of the food we received, based on so many good reviews. The churro pancakes were dry and burnt. The only thing differentiating the churro pancakes from regular pancakes was a heavy dusting of cinnamon on the top pancake. It doesn’t specify on GH that the pancakes don’t come with syrup, however it did come with a Tbsp of icing. I’d hope that had we been dining in they’d serve decent pancakes. But these seemed to have been forgotten about on the griddle and packed to go anyway. Honestly, McDonald’s hotcakes were significantly superior. The bagel sandwiches would have been great had they not made a mistake on the toppings. The avocado sunrise was requested to add onion while the ham bagel doesn’t come with onions. They put onions on the wrong one, resulting in my fiancé not consuming it due to the onions being mushed into the cream cheese. It was a total waste. Should we be in the area, I may consider giving CR another try. But clearly whomever was expediting to go orders today was not paying attention to details.
The coffee was absolutely amazing i had the vanilla nitro cold brew with an espresso bomb and their classic chicken sandwich is to die for. Im completely in love with the atmosphere and all of the employees were amazing. Bonus they use sustainable materials to serve their food and drinks including paper straws!! I will definitely be recommending them!!
The place has a nice welcoming atmosphere, so I thought the staff would be similar, but apparently I was wrong. I came here two weeks ago and I had to stand at the counter for like 5-6 minutes before anyone addressed me (even though I was the only customer standing at the counter). Not even a simple hi or “I’ll be right with you” type of thing, which isn’t much to ask for. Also, there were 3 people sitting right by the workers that had no masks on, and maybe they had been drinking coffee/eating before I got there, but it didn’t seem like they were still currently having anything when I came in- just sitting around maskless. The girl who brought my coffee over to me also had her mask down. This was 2 weeks ago, prior to Michigan’s mask regulations changing. I felt very uncomfortable and unwanted here!Edit: I do appreciate the cafe reaching out and apologizing for my experience- I hope to give them another shot in the near future and see if I can have an enjoyable experience!
Absolutely love this place!! Such a cute atmosphere and has VERY GOOD FOOD AND DRINKS!! It’s a bit expensive but it’s rightfully so considering their food is very healthy and natural!! Their strawberry lemonade is amazing!!! I appreciate their priorities such as being a sustainable business and supporting vegetarian options!! 💓🌿
Wow! Found this gem during a road trip. So glad we stopped in. Amazing coffee menu choices. My partner and I inhaled our breakfast. I ordered a monte Cristo, it was perfection! Made fresh, perfect sweet and savory combo. Bf had a steak and egg quesadilla. Baristas were attentive and very helpful when I was looking to take home a bag of coffee beans. Cant wait to share this at the next family gathering.
A very nice atmosphere, very friendly and customers were friendly as well. A very kind gentleman, baught my daughter a got coco!😊 Will be going here more often! They also serve food, but unfortunately, I did not look at their menu. I will next time and order something, as well!
If you dont know, you should find out. Outstanding coffee from outstanding people. The cold brew and pour over are great but I especially LOVE the espresso. They feature Costa Rican coffee and stand out from other coffee joints with their own unique style. They also do a lot to support the community. I HIGHLY recommend.
The BEST coffee in Battle Creek! The punch cards and mug club specials are added bonuses. Tristan and Jackson are very knowledgeable about the coffee and products they offer, as well as always adding new items and trying new brews! The personalized service you get is hands-down, the best. You will not be disappointed with anything you get!
I went to this charming Cafe for the first time today. They have been open for a year and this was my first time hearing about them. The staff was lovely and super friendly. They were very helpful with ordering and seemed genuinely happy to help. Rachel and Hannah both took the time to help me and were both incredibly sweet. The decor of the Cafe was very interesting and cozy. They have a large mural of a flamingo, local artists works, exposed brick, vibrant tile, as well as very cute seating. I also adored how they had little succulents and other plants placed around the restaurant. My favorite was the little Coffee Tree up by where you grab your food to go.I got my food to go. I chose the Tico Tosatadas and added egg. The homemade tortillas were so good. I also bought a tall Apple Gingerbread Tea Latte with coconut milk. The food was delicious. I meant to take a picture before I took my first bite but couldnt wait. And I absolutely love the tea latte. It wasnt overly sweet and it tasted delicious.Im very impressed with the quality of the ingredients and the overall experience.I greatly look forward to getting food to go again and the opportunity to dine-in eventually.Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful staff, and wonderful food.
As a tax paying citizen in the city of Battle Creek, I found myself one afternoon at this coffee shop. Customer Service was friendly, timley, and efficient. Price for a black cup of coffee was reasonable enough, three dollars. I sat and drank my java at the out door seating area offered, basking in the sun, listening to sounds of the city. As I finished my first cup I wondered, contemplating the refill policy at Café Rica Co. Uhh... Half off. Was the response to my question in regards.I payed three dollars for a 16oz cup of coffee, why not let it be four and a half, after all, it is good coffee .UPDATE - Upon further consideration to my overall experience at Café Rica USA this service was good, the price was not. Even considering the centralized location, overall pleasnt and enjoyable atmosphere , three dollars for one sixteen ounce coffee seems like a large corporate price point. Maybe my want for a warm cup of coffee was obtuse, however, I went back two more times for a refill , (it was that good) and still seems as seven dollars (with tip) for forty eight ounces is just not financialy considerate to the consumer.

2022-04-12The staff their is extremely knowledgeable about coffee, how it’s made, and where each brew comes from. Everything I’ve ordered from them is fresh and tastes excellent. Atmosphere has an upbeat and fun feel. You can sit inside or out, both have a great view. I would like to see them get a customized open sign to better fit their unique feel.

2022-04-08The honey cinnamon latte, breve, half sweet, extra shot of espresso… soo good. Blueberry muffin on point! I asked for toast and got half a loaf of the freshest bread! AND IT WAS HOT! when was the last time you got hot toast anywhere other than right out of your own toaster? 🤔 😋

2022-02-27A couple friends and I got brunch here. None of us had ever been and I want more. Small little Cafe set in the city of Battle Creek and just oh so adorable! The Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese was to die for and the Mimosa tray was absolutley worth it with the variety of fruit and juices, you could mix it up just how you want it. Im going back for the Waffle Sandwich next!

2022-07-14Fantastic place for tea, food and drinks. I’m normally a huge fan of the mimosa trays, but the French 75 may be my new to-go drink with friends. And their Lemonade gets 2 thumbs up from the under 21 crowd.

2021-12-01Placed a group lunch order for the company I was working with in Battle Creek; Here was the grilled cheese I had personally ordered, made in an obvious rush and burnt; my other colleagues orders where sad to sad the least; The most appetizing of all was the cut up fruit;Everything (of a 14 person order) came wrapped in only thin paper that leaked and became greesy ; Instead of being stacked in proper boxes it was all placed on top of each other and thrown in a paper bag; We ordered 4 drinks aswell; While ordered to-go they came in unsealed largely opened cups with lids that spilled the drinks before I even had them loaded into the car; please Don’t take group orders in the future if your kitchen does not have the appropriate capacity to make the food with caution within the time frame request and with the correct transportation and packaging materials for your menu iteams: Would not recommend for group orders; Would not recommend customer service which seemed rude and unhelpful; And would not recommend the food for its quality or taste, various iteams sounded good but when ordered and received came out small and not appealing; As the old saying goes “the food here is terrible.”“I know, and such small portions”
