Picked up a dog from here awhile ago. process was easy enough. had a dog introduction area outside for an existing pet. Seems like some dogs would do better in different kennels kind of loud in the back with the barking. But the office kid didnt have issues pulling the dogs out for me to interact separately away from the other dogs
Was there looking for a furry friend nice lady showing me a dog and then a man walks in and snatches the paperwork out her hands and says I will take it from here...just plain rude to her I looked at my husband and he was like that was rude and not looking good for the company... As we was leaving seen the same lady talking a dog out and the young man that was rude to with blonde hair and glasses was yelling at her again to hurry up cause he wantsHave you thought about what you want me to get from the store when I go to go sit down in the office...come on now I thought it was a team environment not a bully one in our eyes he needs to be fired for bullying or something but... She looked like she was ready to break down and cry...hang in there girl...
Ive dealt with this location several times leaving kittens to stray cats. Im assured from them that they are a no kill shelter, which is the only reason why I trust leaving any animal there. In the past they have taken in many animals that i taken in there who have no other place to go.
My 1st time actually adopting a dog from a shelter; for dogs in the past Ive raised from puppies. I drove about an hour to see a dog I saw on pet finder. The staff was very informative and helpful helping me through the process. Everyone was so happy to see Copper go home with me and had to say goodbye for the little guy was really cared for and loved. It was a wonderful experience and when we are ready to take on another pet I will definitely be looking here 1st.Its a animal shelter ran as a non profit and with that said; Ive seen some bad shelters. This was not one of them. Its hard to care for just one or 2 animals. Imagine doing as many as they do. I say they are doing the best with what they are given. We are all only human; doing the best we can by these dogs and cats.
People who are running this place are extremely nice. Both to animals and the visitors. And they are doing a great job on getting all the right treatment/shots etc. to the animals there. The conditions there are not great, this is one of the “old style” shelters, with very little space. You will definitely feel like you are “rescuing” you new animal friend.
We visited during spring break and the staff was very friendly. I absolutely love how they have treats for the dogs! There was one dog in particular that had the whole obedience and treat thing down! She was awesome, I hope she finds a home soon. Because she was amazingly obedient and soooo loving!
I got a 5 yr old Pit Bull mix 3 months ago from here and I am happy with the dog and the process. I lost 2 dogs to cancer this year and I saw this dog on the website and went down to inquire about him. They took me to a room and introduced me to the dog. They were not in any hurry and let me visit as long as I needed. When they found out I had other dogs they wanted me to bring them back so we could have a meet and greet. My 12 yr old cannot get into the SUV anymore so I took the other. He too was older and didnt want to play but there was no fighting or growling. I wanted to get a new dog while the others were alive so they could show him the ropes. It worked out great. I read one review which talked about a sick dog and I am surprised as they list several vets on the adoption papers that will do a checkup for free and they will take the dog back if the checkup is done in the first 5-7 days and dog is sick. I took the dog to my vet, who did the checkup for free because he was a rescue. The shelter gave me the medical report of what their vets found when they examined him and everything that was done for him. He already had all his tests and shots so it was just my vet confirming that he was a fine specimen of a dog.The shelter is older but it was clean and the staff was great to me and love the animals.
Hi, I personally think they are a great place to adopt from. Although the conditions are not up to par for most people. But I do not have a problem adopting a pet from there. I have a rescue kitten who is now 4 and is and has been a very healthy cat. Also, we have rescued a Beagle from there. He is a delight and has always been healthy. If there is a smell in there when you walk in, give them a break, there is a lot of dogs and cats to take care of and they try their best. The people that work there are fantastic and are very caring of the animals. Good luck to anyone looking for a kitten, cat, puppy or dog there. Great animals!!!!!!!!!
I initially gave 5 stars and the wonderful people taking care of the animals truly deserve 5 stars! They are amazing.I reduced my rating because you definitely are doing a disservice to the pets needing homes by not having ANY weekend hours. Seriously, some weekend hours are needed for people who work to get in there!!!
Very helpful staff. This is a no kill shelter. The cat I adopted had ear mites and infection. Since I went to a participating vet within the allotted time, my office visit was free. Had to pay for testing and meds. I plan to go back to adopt another cat soon. If you adopt 2 at the same time, there is a discount. They keep the litter boxes and area clean, but still smelly. Kittens are in cages in front office. Cats are free roaming together in an enclosed room.
Staff very friendly & compassionate! Stop in & give them a pat on the back. Their job is tough & emotionally draining! I donated items after losing my 14yo 4-legged bbf. Always SO appreciative of much needed donations!! If you are able, participate in Clear the Kennel Day in your neighborhood. There are so many pets that need their forever home.
Recently had to put our pet down. Rates are cheaper here than at the vets office. But sadly thats the only thing you get are cheaper rates. If you want friendly, compassion from staff than go to your vets office because it didnt happen here. Was not a pleasant experience. Will never recommend or go again.
I liked this place because everyone was very friendly. They expedited our adoption of our dog so we could have him home for Labor Day weekend since they were going to be closed. I have to say though, the place was run down looking and smelled awful which surprised me. The other shelters we have visited were much cleaner and smell free. But to be fair they rely solely on donations which Im sure makes it difficult to keep up with things. Micro chipping is automatically included in pet adoption fees, along with spay/neutering and vaccines. They also include the first year of premium service with the microchipping company Home Again. We adore our new fur baby and we couldnt be happier to have him.
First off I found my second born from Petfinder. He was listed hours before I drove out to pick him up. They said they estimated him to be 8-12 weeks which seemed weird because he didnt even have half of his teeth. It was hard to believe he was eating hard food fully which they explained to me he was doing. I signed the agreement to obviously not hold them liable if the animal becomes sick and such. Well about a week after taking him home he got pneumonia so bad they Emergency Veterinary clinic told me he wasnt going to survive overnight. They gave him fluids and suggested we dont take him home. I stayed up all night making sure he was breathing. I took him to our primary and they said he severe pneumonia and be stayed 2 nights at our vets on fluids, antibiotics. A week goes by and I reach out to the shelter to find out the exact day and time I take him in to get neutered since I dont have a copy of that form which is odd because I paid $250 to get the second set of his shots, rabies, and to get neutered. Yet after speaking to them they didnt even give me the date or time. Acted OBLIVIOUS to the fact I was calling with these questions. After going to our follow up I find out that when I purchased him he was only 5 weeks old. They sold me a 5 week old puppy and thats just normal for them. I say its normal because I spoke to the head guy Tom who didnt seem concerned by any means. They hire trained technicians who are supposed to be trained in the knowledge of animals and they simply cant get the age range correct? They hire a manager who has no experience or background with animals to think and have the best interest of these creatures. They just want their money and dont even care for the animals. Im not bashing the workers who do the grunt work and create bonds with the animals because the guy who took my puppy under his wing I could tell really genuinely cared for him and his sister. But oh my gosh someone look into this place. These animals need someone to care for them and care where they end up! What if I didnt have the resources to get him back on his feet? I had him for only 3 weeks when I spent $1200 to get him back on his feet. Theres so many people who dont have that kind of money laying around when emergencies like this come up.
Adoped a dog from this shelter paid $270. We had the dog for one night and it kept us up all night coughing and sneezing. We were told if the dog was ill we could return it and get a refund. When I took the dog back the owner was very rude to me yelling at me telling me there was nothing wrong with the dog that I was the problem. She told me I could come back in 2 days to pick up my refund. When I went to pick up my check she said she changed her mind and she was not giving me a refund. She told me if I did not leave the property she was going to call the police and have me removed. HORRIBLE shelter. DO NOT recommend. There are many other awesome shelters that do not rip people off.
Its not a great shelter, the animals only get fed once a day, they only go outside twice, once if its hot or cold, all the animals are sick and no one helps them. Its depressing and the prices are way to high, and its entirely based off of if the staff like the animal or not. If they all hate it, you can walk home with a dog for a 100$. If they love it it costs 800+ plus dollars and multiple background checks. I volunteered there and no longer do.
The employees here are inconsiderate and insensitive. I had been trying to adopt a dog that I was more than qualified for, but they kept pushing me through ridiculous hoops and red tape when I was trying to SAVE a dog. Yes, they call themselves a no-kill shelter, but theyre not. I was finally able to get the stupid forms they required and came to find out they adopted her out to someone else. When I began crying on the phone. The woman was very rude and tried to make it my fault, and said they refuse to hold a dog for someone. This is wrong, and they need to get their act together.Wish I could give way less than one star
The staff are horrible. They do not have the best interest of the animal in mind. Two of the managers breed dogs in their private time, which speaks volumes in my opinion. Most importantly, this is a KILL SHELTER! Not a no-kill like they claim! They need to be investigated!
We adopted a little wired hair doxi. We came from Columbus, Ohio. Although the shelters physical set up is not the best, the folks there were caring and helpful. Any dog you rescue from the Calhoun County animal shelter would be very grateful. Thanks to all the shelter workers who helped care for Millie before we could adopt her.

2022-05-27Please visit your local animal shelter, Animal control, Humane Society or rescue to adopt your next pet. These are not damaged animals that are not worth anything, these are sweet and loving pets that would be happy to love a family, and be loved in return. They have many beautiful animals there waiting for adoption, cats dogs and otherwise. Please consider opening your home to one of these recycled pets.

2022-05-26We went to deliver a stray cat from our neighborhood. Very sincere and caring. William gave information without hesitation. Dogs $100 (month of May). Spay/neuter, shots, heartworm testing & microchip. Said they may keep adoptions of dogs at $100 as so many are getting forever homes. They take donations of cleaning supplies, paper products, puppy pads, blankets, towels, toys and food for all the animals and Im pretty sure they will take cash donations. Overall a very pleasant ☺ experience. Thank you Willam

2022-04-28We didnt end up getting a dog there but we went and looked and they had a lot to choose from they were very nice and helpful and the place was clean and well kept. I would definitely go there to look for a dog in the future they just didnt have the kind of dog we were looking for at the time

2022-06-27Its an okay usually clean shelter, but they lie about being a no kill shelter. On Wednesdays you can see people bringing dog body bags out the back full of dead animals. They do kill. And its disgusting to lie about it. Overpopulation is an issue. Being honest is better.

2021-11-15Friendly and helpful volunteer staff. Adoption fees are reasonable. I didnt know until my first visit that they accept financial donations and usually need food & supplies. Lots of animals looking for homes here. Got a new kitten from the shelter, and he is healthy and active.

2018-10-24We just adopted our beautiful dog from here and our experience was nothing BUT POSITIVE! Our dog was healthy inside and out...VERY well cared for.As far as any negitive comments I have seen regarding this organization here is my takeaway.... I do believe this non profit could benefit from a fundraiser and donations of $ to support these VERY caring people...the money could help them create spaces that are updated and pet friendly ! BUT that is financial due to their non profit status versus a lack of desire! Fundraiser anyone? Day of Caring location? Amazing non profit!!!

2018-05-17Im a little biased on this review. After looking at multiple shelters and pounds for a dog to adopt into our family, we found our buddy here. I do have to say, the staff is really nice and helpful plus its really awesome they have land to allow the dogs to get some air.

2022-03-01What a joke lmfaooo didn’t get approved from a charge that’s over 5+ years old. Not to mention that is already taken care of. They never even mentioned that they were doing a back ground check either.
