Comment: My experience as a CMA student with CALRegional was very impactful for my future. The program stayed on track during the expedited schedule but thanks to the support of the instructors I was able to keep up with the material. Its very apparent that the instructors (I had the pleasure of being instructed by Ms. Maria and Ms. Maria) have the students wellbeing in mind, and are very oriented in the success of the future medical workers.The material that we learned was thorough and I feel a lot more confident starting in the medical field than I probably would if Id gone to a different school. I decided to choose my own externship and communicating with CALRegionals coordinator was easy and helpful. Each classroom was stocked with supplies and rarely lacked, which allowed us to practice more efficiently.The online/lecture portion of the class was a bit less organized, my class experienced a lot of instructor turnover which slightly impaired my classs progress but with the help of the amazing Ms. Nina adopting our class with open arms, we were able to all pass the class.I would recommend CALRegional for anyone looking for a future in healthcare. Im very glad that I chose to attend this school. Thank you to all of the staff for providing assistance and care of the utmost quality for the students.

Comment: I took the billing and coding class two years ago. I got my certificate through NHA with them. I haven’t been able to get into coding because I was told the certificate is worthless. The only two agencies that are accepted are AHIMA and AAPC. The class was informative if you’re new to hospital billing, which I wasn’t. I definitely do not recommend this class.

Youre only given six months to complete the externship, and the school isnt accommodating enough to help students maintain a job while doing the externship. Unfortunately, it seems like their main priority is to get several thousand dollars from you and leave you with a loss of time and money.

Comment: I took the medical assistant course in Vacaville and the phlebotomy course in Fairfield. Both programs were great. I just wish they disclosed how difficult it is to get a job after. All jobs want at least one year of experience and I didn’t know that until I was desperate for a new job. I completed both courses in October and I still have not found a job because I don’t have any experience. The other day I got a phone call from CalRegional asking me if I wanted to take another course and I would get a $500 discount instead of asking me hey have you found a job maybe I can give you some tips on how to get one. Nope they just wanted more money.

It felt like the focus at Cal Regional was solely on payment rather than providing quality education. Despite voicing my concerns about an instructor, they seemed indifferent. The recommended books werent fully utilized, with Kelly suggesting her own summaries over the prescribed reading. The learning environment relied heavily on student-created forums, essentially leading to self-teaching. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and I wouldnt recommend it.

Comment: I graduated from CalRegionals phlebotomy program and was lucky enough to be taught under the guidance of Ms. Monina and Ms. Jody. They were so kind, patient, and encouraging; I wouldnt exchange my experience here for any other instructors. They made me feel comfortable to practice and were patient with me and my classmates when there were comprehension or technical issues.Ms. Monina was a little strict and very straight-to-the-point with the things we needed to learn, which I appreciate because we only have a little under 3 months in the program, so every minute here COUNTS. She was very determined to ensure all her students scored high and would never hesitate to hunt you down if you were missing an assignment. She wants us to succeed and her actions made that very clear without causing any discomfort or discouragement (at least for me). Dont be afraid to ask questions, because she and Ms. Jody are more than happy to assist your learning.Advice for everyone considering the phlebotomy program here: try your very best to get over 100 draws. Its really intimidating at first because its a big responsibility that has plenty of room for error, but you never know who youre competing against in the work field, so you want to get as much practice in these two months as possible and acquire the highest amount of draws as you can manage. Think of how youll appear on your resume and how youre going to impress your potential employer.

Comment: Ms. Monina was my evening class instructor for the Phlebotomy program. After having my daughter in 2019 I decided to take step back from school to dedicate my time to being a mother. Being out of the classroom for almost four years I was very nervous about being in the classroom setting again. The first week of school Ms. Monina made it very clear that she loved her job as teacher and ensured us that she will be there every step of the way to help us accomplish not just our personal goals but ensuring us that she will not allow us to leave without being confident in our knowledge over the 6 week course but as well as our skills. I can honestly say that Ms.Monina absolutely was a woman of her word and I felt more than prepared for my National Exam and my skill set. Considering that the course was at an accelerated pace Ms.Monina made sure to cover all bases of learning styles throughout the six weeks. We had daily reviews, powerpoint slides,kahoots, and we even played various games to make sure that we understood the material. Because of Ms.Moninas dedication and organization as an instructor my worries about returning to school quickly diminished and not only did I gain confidence in my learning abilities as a new Certified Phlebotomist but I will be continuing my education by applying to a Radiology program in December. Thank you Ms.Monina for your kindness and dedication as a teacher!

And the instructor being in a different time zone didnt help because the communication was spotty. If I could redo it, I would go through the community College.

I took the Medical Billing and Coding program, passed, and now almost a little over 5 months and I still have not found a job that needs this certificate. Such a waste of my time and MONEY! I STRONGLY recommend you go elsewhere for a different certificate. Comment: Horrible horrible experience. I tried the online billing and coding. Instructors are all over the place. Tonia Phipps is extremely rude and not helpful at all. All cal regional cares about is if they get paid. They are also beyond unprofessional. I paid all but the last payment of the 2 thousand ( only because the last lady was overbearingly rude) and they could care less that I said multiple times I dont want her as an instructor. I did get a different one which she was a bit better but still not able to explain things clearly. Some things happened and I had to take a break and when I went back again to START OVER COMPLETELY they sent me right back into Tonias class. Also they tell you what books to buy before it starts and then you find out they dont even use all of them. In fact Tonia says DO NOT READ THIS BOOK OR THAT BOOK BUT INSTEAD READ HER SUMMARY OF THE BOOK. In every class I was in all of the students made their own discord or other forum to help eachother. But it wasnt just help. It was like we were all basically teaching ourselves. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Comment: I took the Phlebotomy Technician Program at Calregional, El Centro, CA and had a great experience. My instructor was Danette Dunkin and she did an great job at teaching our class what we needed to know when it came to phlebotomy. I was able to learn quickly and improve upon my venipuncture techniques thanks to Dannettes constructive suggestions when she evaluated our performances. The learning expectations when it came to quizzes, the midterm, and final were very clearly laid out and there was nothing that came out of left field. We were completely prepared for any examinations that would be ahead of us and we were not left confused. Danette also answered any questions that we had and was happy to help. The learning environment was not overly serious/cold, nor too laid back/unconcerned, it was perfect for me to learn what I needed to know and still have some fun or relax. Danette was also aware of her surroundings and made sure to act fast if there were any complications such as syncope. I would recommend this course to anybody who wants to learn Phlebotomy and earn their certification.

Comment: I am in my last week of the phlebotomy technician program at the Fresno location. I am taking the night class with Ms.garza as the instructor. It is an accelerated program and definitely fast-paced but she made it easy to understand, and always made sure to set aside time to help people individually when needed. I cannot speak for the day class because that is a different I can definitely tell you that my instructor was very versed on all of the topics and has years of experience. I definitely feel prepared to take the national exam and I recommend this course for anybody who is looking to learn a skill and to advance their career quickly

Comment: I took the ccma course with Mrs.Kizer! She is a great teacher! I am sure she hears this alot but she was one of the most caring teacher I have had. She gave us many chances to succeed. She made sure we all understood everything and no one was left behind. She always encouraged us to learn beyond our comfort zone. At times, I was frustrated for not understanding something sooner, but she always remembered what we needed and how we could improve. Even when talking to a screen of slides, she never lost her enthusiasm. Its one of the only online class where I didnt need in person class to learn my best. It wan interactive and fun. I learned alot more than I imagined. Many things piqued my interest and hopefully I will get to see them through. I am glad I got to have her as a teacher:)

The instructor Mrs Dunkin I had for phlebotomy needs to improve her teaching skills and note that it is not very professional for students to get away with being absent on finals and take the test at home. She needs to work on neatness as well, because it is not ok to be eating while students are taking finals either. Mrs Dunkin needs to learn to accept the quiet and serious students instead of holding it against them and giving a poor grade for not trying to be her best friend.

Comment: Due to the pandemic, I unfortunately lost my job; with my office closing for good. I had developed a career in Office Management for over 15 years. But after weeks/months of looking for a new job and not being successful in finding one. I decided to go back to school. I was happy to begin my education finally in healthcare. I’ve always wanted to work in the health field but because I had children early I put my dream behind me. I found Cal Regional and was afraid to start Pharmacy Technician. But with a push from my children and family I made that extra step signed up, attended classes, aced it, passed my quizzes both on modules and NHA.Of course none of this would happen if I did not have an exceptional teacher.Mrs. T (Heather Thornton) has an exceptional background in pharmacy technician. She has the best curriculum in filling, compounding, SIGs, pharmacy calculations, PT laws, drug classifications & safety, insurances, etc. She made the class very educational but fun. She welcomes hands on training, grabbing, cleaning laminar flow hoods, compounding, counting and measuring medications. Mrs. T is very patient and caring, she makes the class feel like a family atmosphere. If there was review class or an option to return as a refresher class I would definitely come back to her class.I’m sad that Tuesday is our last class. But I can’t thank her enough for helping us learn and practice for our certification in Pharmacy Technician. I know I’m leaving this program with new friends. Thank you Mrs. T.Cal Regional (Fairfield Adult School) has one of the best Pharmacy Technician teachers!

Comment: The 5-Star review is redeemed due to my experience with my instructor. From start to finish, CalRegional had a ton of advertisements that displays their programs and schedules available. (Seems great) I decided to call and get more information on their EMT and pharmacy tech program as I was undecided. The woman on the phone was nice, but didnt tell me much more information than I could already find online. I finally decided I would just put the deposit down on the pharmacy tech program instead of second guessing it, and from there my experience seemed to flow decently well as far as what was expected of me before my first day of class (uniforms, materials, school conduct book) Day 1 was okay, as far as introductions and what we would learn about over the course of the next few weeks, however my instructor was setup for failure in the beginning by the school in my opinion. There was some sort of scheduling issue the first week and a half, so our program got delayed which changed our end date. The communication on this scheduling issue was not really conveyed until it was forced out of administration after several calls from students. I went to class for 2 days and then I didn’t have school for the next 5 days, waiting to hear something from staff. That wasnt good enough for me as there is a 7 day period to cancel or you have to payout the rest of your tuition whether you come or not, in addition we had assignments we were trying to stay on top of and no one could answer if those still needed to be submitted by the deadline we were given. CalRegional did decide to credit us $300 off our tuition for this inconvenience, which was an upside to a frustrating situation. However, we continued after that week and a half of being off. Mrs. T seemed more prepared and we just kept doing a ton of assignments. (Background: This was her first teaching gig with CalRegional and her all her books that are to be provided by the school werent there on time, and when it finally did get there it was the same workbook she already had and not TEXTbook she needed -3 week delay- ) She was going by the schools older curriculum of slide shows/modules when she was assigning work for us to do at home, which was a massive amount of chapters due in under a week. It made it near impossible to absorb the information because you already had to move on to the next chapter or youd never finish in time. It made it difficult to balance at home life, work life, and school. She finally received the correct book and she was mortified she had been assigning us so much based off of PAST instructors material (which btw the slideshows were absolutely terrible-should delete them) She decided to redo the remaining time of the class how she wanted to transfer the information to us and what our individual expectations were for work assigned at home. We found a happy medium where we were able to breathe with the work assigned at home, gave us time to study for quizzes and do NHA modules. The atmosphere of the class changed at that point. Everyone was able to share their struggles and classmates/teacher would offer solutions, change assignment focus based on these struggles. The labs she would put on were fun and unique! She made sure that no student was left behind (some were on the quiet side, so she always made sure to ask them what they needed help on so she would go over it as a whole) Shes always on time ready to go, in the classroom and online. If she has ever been any other emotion other than happy, shes great at hiding it. Mrs. T is always wearing her smile. She created a great dynamic with everyone and having Mrs. T as my instructor made me feel like I was in good hands and I can trust her with my education and my future in pharmacy. Thank you Mrs. T!

Comment: Students beware! This school is horrible. No accommodations with covid, the director was so unprofessional and rude. The instructor behaved quite juvenile for her age. This was horribly overpriced and overrated. When I talked to the office assistants about joining this program they falsy made me believe I would be able to do the program with accommodations (such as externing at night, postponing the externship, work accommodations) and none of which are true. Also little to no information was provided for me until the first week of school and now that I am done with the program, and after providing all my volunteers in order to certify for the hours provided, (another example of no accommodations that went unmentioned) Im left without $3,000 (not including supplies such as books, scrubs, shoes, stethoscope, watch, and bp cuff) and no job placement. Extremely disorganized, only learned the skills for medical assisting but not the actual testing for the NHA certification, everything you learn is counterintuitive compared to what the test holds.

Comment: I did the Medical Assistant program there and I really enjoyed the classroom aspect, the externship waiting period, not so much. Here is my experience.Right from the start everyone was very kind and supportive of each other. The program itself was very educational but very fast. I was getting all good grades but I noticed other students struggling and I did feel bad that instead of helping them understand the material, we just moved on to the next section. It was disappointing, the way the externship was handled. I finished the program January and passed the NHA the following week. I was called by the school about 2 weeks after, saying I was going to be on a list to be placed somewhere to go. I waited like 2 weeks to be placed. They gave me a location and told me they would get a hold of me to start. I reached out to a few classmates and it turns out one of them got the same location and was toold the same thing. We called to see if we were both going to be there and they said it basiclly like an interview, we would be competing for the spot. I checked in with the place many times and left messages after weeks of not hearing from them. I never got an answer, or a call or email nothing. The school called them and nothing. They told me they can potentially send me to Healdsburg but its not for sure and they dont know when it will start and it would be the same an interview. So I took it upon myself to send my resume out call every local medical office/ hospital. Within 2 days I found a place to go. I followed up with the school and kept in touch every week until I received the email with a start date and location. I began March 31 at begging of Covid-10. My experience at the facility was amazing. I was encouraged by my preceptors to start applying for a job. Half way into the externship I got an interview and got my first MA job! If I never took the initiative to reach out and be persistent, I think this would be a completely different outcome. All in all the down part to the program is that they dont tell you about the difficulty with getting your externship. Also they dont tell you most companies do not accept the NHA as a qualifying certificate. I am currently studying to be state certified, through the CCBMA that one is accepted everywhere.

Comment: I am a recent high school graduate planning on attending medical school following my time as an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame. Shortly after graduation, I decided to take the two week phlebotomy course to get exposure to the medical field. It was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Danielle, my instructor, was extremely passionate about her work and made the class exciting and fun, as well as educational. She did a fantastic job preparing us for the NHA exam by giving us an abundance of review materials and practice tests. All 25 of the students in my class passed the NHA and are now CPT1 certified. Everyone in the class was invested in each other’s success which made it a supportive and caring environment. After just two weeks of training, I feel confident drawing blood from any patient that comes to me. I can’t thank CalRegional enough for giving me such an awesome experience in the medical field before I go to college!

Comment: I have taken the phlebotomy as well as the medical assisting program through this school in the Santa Rosa location. I dedicated myself to this school and spent hard earned money here. The phlebotomy program was very good with mrs rachelle and Ellen, however the medical assisting program was not worth my money nor my time. I highly recommend looking into doing it through the srjc instead. The communication when trying to be place for an externship was very unprofessional, it took over 5 months to be placed. When I was finally placed in an externship, a girl that finished the program three months after me had been placed in an externship 1 week prior to me. Absolutely unprofessional. I was told if I turn everything in on time got good grades and did well in class it would determine externship placement. I had one of the highest grades for my class, turned everything in early and did everything I was supposed to and the school did not hold up to there end. Not only was I placed so late for my externship, but the externship they placed me in at audiology associates in Santa Rosa was a joke and obviously not looked into by calregional. For 160 hours of my externship it included moving boxes and cleaning out theirChart room, and scanning files because they were going paperless. The only thing I was able to gain from this place was how they do a general ear exam, because they spent roughly 30 minutes doing the exam on me to show me. I am highly disappointed with this school because they obviously do not want to help teach people. Please do not waist your hard earned money here.

Very poor communication, a 2 month accelerated course turned into 5 and there was no accommodation for the students what’s so ever. Very money driven. I waited a month before checking in for my certificate of completion only to find out that I was never in progress because my status was not changed to “payed in full” although I payed all in one before the class even started. I now have to wait another 14 days. I did exceptionally well in class grade and skill wise and I’m not one for bad reviews but wow.. I’ve been very patient but they continue to surprise me with how unorganized they are. It’s very very frustrating as you can tell.

Even though it was a 1 month online lecture oyr teacher was still able to be there and teach us, and I still learned. I have now completed my MA successfully and got my Certification. I will now go on forth with Phlebotomy!

Comment: I absolutely loved taking the Phlebotomy course here. I would give 6 out of 5 stars if I could. I took the two week course which met 8:00 am to 5 pm each day, and had an included externship at the end because of their on-site lab. I think only the Fairfield location has the included lab, otherwise students have their externship at other locations.The instructors were passionate, knowledgeable, and kind/understanding. They were also hilarious and actual human beings who I definitely look up to. I felt that the skills I learned were accurate, up-to-date, and very detailed. I was really looking for that sort of quality because Im a technical person. We were also exposed to several different types of tools and equipment, and learned how to do urine analysis, used nasopharyngeal swabs to practice testing for strep, and other non-blood specimen tests. My instructors made me feel confident about what I was learning and the skills I was using every day even though using needles can be really daunting at first.I overcame my fear of needles and got so used to being poked, and eased my anxiety about drawing blood from others. It really is a rewarding feeling to get successful draws. I also didnt expect to make friends and bond with everyone so well but it really felt like a little family at the end. There was a great deal of trust established early on as we practiced draws from each other.Overall, a super valuable experience. Worth the $3,000 hands-down. You even receive help with resumés and prepare for your NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam so you can pass successfully.I already miss being there and perhaps I will see if I can volunteer in the future. Do it though guys. Take the course, learn these skills, especially if you want to go into nursing because many nurses are cross-trained poorly in phlebotomy. Its just the reality. Be that nurse that knows exactly what they are doing and can locate veins even in difficult patients. It will make your career so much easier and open up more opportunities than just working in a hospital setting.

Comment: I enjoyed the course. I passed the course with an A+ as well as my NHA certification for medical assisting. My BIGGEST problem is how disorganized they are when it comes to the externships. They dont seem to know where they are sending you and put it off till the very last minute of their required deadline. I live in santa rosa and all of my externships laurie has tried to send me to are all the way in napa. You would think a professional school would be able to at least find an externship closer to where the class was actually held or at least where the students live especially considering the fact that there are so many places that can qualify for an externship opportunity. The course just obviously doesnt have that much credibility to obtain that many externships which I wish I would have known before, especially considering the higher price I had to pay.

Comment: I took the EMT class at the Fairfield location. Our instructor was Sarah Porter, she was awesome. I would absolutely recommend this course. Its an accelerated course, so a bit intense, but I loved it. I plan on taking an additional course in March.

Comment: I was very scared going into this program for many reasons but the moment I stepped foot in that class room I knew that this was going to be the one of best experiences. The teacher I got was Jeff Fixel. If you can request him as your teacher! He loves what he does and he has a lot of experience so he knows what hes talking about. The class goes by so fast. I am there about four hours and it feels like 30 mins.

The most amazing part was that there was no waiting list (lottery), and you can choose from a weekday or weekend class. But what you would like most is that the Instructor Mr. Fixel and Staff are the most knowledgeable and attentive in their field (there with you from the beginning – to end of each draw), improving each successful draw with an extensive variable of safer techniques tailored to you. The sweetest part is that you can personalize your externship with the personal volunteers that some of us came here in the first place to help. Its nice to minimalize a trip for a loved one to the laboratory when you are now licensed to draw from the convenience of their homes.

The instructor we had (Mr.Fixel) was very patient, knowledgeable and most of all, passionate about his career and helped us with all the questions we had. He went into details with every chapter in the books and helped us prepare for the NHA, which we all passed. Starting the first day Mr Alexander made the class feel very comfortable and at ease. Comment: Enthusiastic to do their phlebotomy program I put down my deposit of $400 with the understanding that it is non-refundable. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I can no longer attend the course. It has been one week since I put down my deposit and the class I was in does not start until June 17. I understand the deposit is non-refundable but that is a lot of money to lose for nothing. My placement in the course has not affected their ability to fill the class, therefore I should get my money back since it is so soon. I emailed them and received a call just to be told I cannot get my deposit back. As some of you may know being a student is expensive and a struggle and losing that deposit hits hard. It’s unfortunate I can no longer take the course but life happens and it is out of my control. Keeping that deposit seems very greedy on their part.

Comment: Im a student of the Pharmacy Technician Program and after graduating from here I have to say I have learned nothing. Yes, I said and you read it right, NOTHING. Heres my compliment / complaints in the different area of the program.* The instructor was nonetheless awesome but have not teach a class properly before. Therefore, the instructor was a bit lazy to really even run through the class presentation to let your mind process the information. The instructor will only ask if you have any questions from your homework and move on to the next chapter. Do keep in mind you are reading a 1-2 chapter a week, sometime you are even 1 chapter a day. Yes, 1 chapter a day.....and you are also required to turn in the workbook in which the instructor DOES NOT EVEN CHECK! I even tested if the instructor even grade the workbook...I purposely mismatched my multiple choice answers and still passed for the workbook portion of my homework....* Tests/Midterms/Finals: Youll pass this without knowing a thing because 1) its open book, 2) you are allowed to use your workbook, and 3) youll have a partner. Oh you failed? Dont worry the class will have a second test just because the class didnt do so well. On top of that, how could the instructor let you failed if they didnt even teach you to begin with? Lol.* Labs: There are multiple labs that are SUPPOSED to be set up for you after the WORKBOOK in which the instructor is supposed to run it through to you so you could get the EXPERIENCE(S) you need when you graduate and go on about in a pharmacy. However, the instructor neglects this and because there are cameras in the room he/she will inform you to go to the team rooms. In which she will then instruct you to do your homework and go home afterward... You will hardly do any labs and this is a must if you need the experience! Throughout my time there the only lab we had ever did was 1) count pills, 2) use/dispose syringe(s), and 3) use/dispose plastic gloves.* Externship(s): WOW YOU MADE IT THIS FAR? HURRAY! You made it, but wait! You are going to be thrown into the Lions Den now. Do expect to know nothing other than the name of a FEW DRUGS because the instructor had rushed it through your head. However, your nightmare doesnt end there cause now the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician at your extern EXPECTS you to KNOW ALL OF THE DRUGS and how to OPERATE the computer machines at their location in which you have NO KNOWLEDGE OF! But wait, all of those times that you were SUPPOSED to be doing lab and lectured on something important were not properly taught. So now youre left in this little pie in which you hope to find a job after the 2 weeks of extern...Ultimately... what they have to offer for you is their EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM at the end of the 3month... other than having YOU go home to read a book and come to class to elaborate what YOU LEARNED (BY YOURSELF). The instructor is just there to answer your questions...Listen to me and save yourself $3000 along with 3-6months of time and go to a different school.Matter of fact, if you are interested in becoming a Pharmacy Technician do yourself a favor and start at ANY local pharmacy as a CASHIER or PHARMACY CLERK. Youll slowly learn how the system works, and youll learn the name of the drugs by yourself just by looking at them...You dont need this program to take the PTCB to be certified.Goodluck and thanks for reading.
