Comment: My wife and I had our guest wedding room block at Cape Rey in and everyone was blown away by the beauty of the property as well as the great service from all of the staff. We worked with Kristen, the hotel event coordinator, to host a welcome reception at Cape Rey for our guests to kick off the weekend and everything went great! Kristen was incredibly responsive and made us feel welcome from the day we inquired about availability.Our guests especially appreciated the ability to use the free Circuit shuttle to get around the Carlsbad area from the hotel!My wife and I are so glad we chose to stay at Cape Rey during our wedding weekend and we can’t wait to come back.

Comment: I had a wonderful time staying at your beautiful facility. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I love the complementary use of the bikes. The only thing was my room was above a docking or delivery area of some sort so I got waken up very early almost every day for 3 days :( I was unable to change room because it was not available. Also, I couldn’t use the hot tub as there were so many little children every time I went. The pool foods were acceptable, at best. I was served raw chicken twice. However, I was not charged. Overall, I had a positive experience at this resort and would return perhaps during the weekdays and not the weekends.

Comment: Prime location we enjoyed our stay. Aesthetically pleasing property, a quick 5 minute walk across to the beach, oceanfront restaurant on site with amazing food. This hotel has a robot that will deliver snacks to the room. The kiddos will love this one. I know mine did.Kid friendly property, I loved the beach bike amenities (free for guest) perfect location for a morning beach ride. Close to legoland and strawberry picking. A short distance to Oceanside which is a must for brunch and fish and chips.

Comment: Hotel was at capacity we were told. As a Hilton Honors member no upgrades were offered or available. Room was quiet and functional. No early check in either was allowed. Theres a restaurant on site, we went down for breakfast at 9am, the whole restaurant was about 90% empty and the hostess said she can only seat if you have a reservation. Ridiculous!! Ive never stayed at a hotel where you couldnt enjoy their restaurant. Lovely location but they need to seriously rethink their dining options for guests and/or make reservations for you as soon as you check in. Parking was also difficult, they have an overflow lot thats across the street and down a hill. Hard to roll luggage up a hill. Overall not an easy hotel experience.

Comment: I just want to say I love this hotel. Michelle and literally everyone at the front desk, pool, restaurant, housekeeping, valet and more are so nice and full of great energy. I had an mis hap with my bill when I stayed 2 days ago but stayed patient because I know they always take care of me. When I came back in when I had time after work and talked to Michelle she was right on it and fixed the issue. I wanted to leave this to show my gratitude for being one of the few facilities that care about people still in this world. Thankyou again everyone for always being awesome. 10 stars.

Comment: Understaffed and it shows. Currently sitting under a PAPER THIN duvet cover in our room writing this review. We arrived on time for check in at 4pm. Stood in line for the front desk behind 8 people, waiting for 15 minutes to check in to be told our room wasnt ready even though it was well past 4pm at this point. Had a watery drink at the bar while we waited. Finally had our room ready around 4:50, which we had to go check on, she hadnt called us yet, but we came back because we were going to miss our dinner reservation and needed to change. Got to our room, the toilet was not clean. There is a $35 resort fee…. for a very average hotel, not resort by any means. And its $30 to park your car yourself across the street. We also called 10 times (not an exaggeration, actually 10) to get an extra duvet brought to our room because this bedding is made of cardboard. They asked if a blanket would work…. and now we are just waiting to see what shows up, if it shows up at all. For somewhere that claims to be a resort, beyond the fancy lobby, it feels like a low budget hotel.

Comment: We recently had our wedding at Cape Rey Hotel in Carlsbad (May 2024). Our experience was fantastic from start to finish. Both Karla and Sydnie from Cape Rey were outstanding to work with. The whole team consistently went above and beyond for not only us, but all of our guests staying at the hotel for the weekend. Not to mention their manager Greg was buzzing around checking in on each guest as well as helping out his waitstaff run food. Not often do you see management heloing their staff out. Comment: The hotel is clearly understaffed, we stayed two nights and tried to have dinner when the restaurant was 1/2 full, we were told that we needed to wait 45 mins because the kitchen was backed up,since there was no other option we sat at the bar, ordered a snack and after 1.5 hrs asked the hostess what was going on as the restaurant was 1.4 full only, they said that since we ordered something to eat the didnt contacted us,and by then the kitchen was closed and we couldnt order a main, so we didnt have dinner and we had nowhere else to goso we asked for a reservation for our second night so this didnt happen, they said they had no tables available. so there is not enough staff to serve the paying guests at the resortnext morning, we tried ordering room service for breakfast, there was no answer, after calling for desk, we got a call and we were told there was no room service at the moment (we were never told when we checked in there wont be room service) so we had to order take out, we ordered take out and the order was wrong, so we have to wait again for them to correct the order, so we can eat breakfast and we were late to our meet updefinitely the hotel has to plan their staffing better.

After checking in on day one, we were sent to the front desk the next morning for over an hour while the staff embarrassingly told us several times that we aren’t supposed to be there. After calling Hilton grand vacations “the error” (as the staff at the hotel calls it) was somewhat straightened out. My family and I checked out soon afterwards after several remarks from staff. I think they want it to be a whites only resort.

Comment: Great hotel. Not inexpensive. Quiet. Nice pool. Nice restaurant. Seems to be on the safe side of the street. (Rv state park has (according to where you check in) a high rate of crime. Just be aware of your surroundings and you are fine. You do need to drive (or bike) to non hotel locations for the most part, so be aware. The employees seemed to enjoy their job so that was nice.

Comment: We had our wedding at this venue and it was perfect! Kristen Prigatano and her staff were very attentive and helpful leading up to our event and the days of. They worked so well with all our vendors and made sure everything was covered. They went out of their way to make sure we and all our guests were comfortable and taken care of. In addition to the helpful staff, the venue was able to accomodate comfortably our total of 175 guests and allowed outside catering, which was very important for our wedding of American and South Asian traditions. Highly recommend this venue!

Rooms we were on bottom floor and wanted to open window to get sea breeze, but windows wouldn’t open. That was the first big bummer. Then the hot tub after getting out I smelt like straight bleach. Comment: Hotel and resort was great! Area was amazing and service was 4/5 stars.My only complaint was the extra service charge of $22 per day to use the pool and work out facility. When booking my stay I was aware of the parking fee and cost of my room plus taxes etc. However it was never disclosed online or at check in for the extra cost. I like to provide all companies an opportunity to resolve my complaint so I contacted customer service and they told me there was nothing they can do. I realize it is only $22 per day but it is the principle that I was not only notified of this fee but that the fee was for utilizing a pool and work out facility. Something that you would just “assume” would be included when spending $330 per night.

Comment: This property is an above average hotel, definitely not a “resort” as other reviews have noted as well. The pool is nice. Rooms are generally clean but definitely need some upgrades. Our bathroom sink fixtures had green rust on them. We had to change rooms once since the first room’s AC was not working properly. The area around the hotel seems more industrial than anything. There is a railroad track nearby. You can see the ocean from certain rooms, but also a road and an RV park located between the property and the beach. The front desk staff were polite but not super-welcoming. Overall, I think we paid too much for what we received.

You definitely can’t beat the beach views and relaxation.Michelle at the front desk is absolutely amazing and represents top quality customer service along with the valet staff. She explains everything thoroughly and even made and suggested last minute arrangements for a special weekend. She definitely makes the visit much more pleasant as she went above and beyond!Only downside might be pricing but otherwise an amazing place to stay. Definitely plan on returning visits.

Front desk dont explain that each night you have to pay 40 dollars per night for valet and 30 per night for self parking. Very frustrating having traveled all day with 2 kids. They didn’t even offer us anything to make up for it! In general the desk help was not helpful. Comment: Spent the night at Cape Rey to celebrate my birthday. We had the Oceanview Balcony Suite. It was very cozy, lots of Balcony space and access from living room and bedroom. Huge spa like tub and shower. Had wonderful view of pacific ocean at sunset. Lots of light in the morning, went for a walk down to the beach. Which was a 5m walk. Well rested and had a wonderful breakfast with my son at Chandlers.I loved the 12pm check out..gave us plenty of time to enjoy the morning. I will certainly keep it in mind for future trips. The staff was very friendly and offered to help if anything was needed. Just one neighbor near our room, they opened doors and slammed shut, threw luggage, and made noise late at night....but that was not issue of the hotel..its inconsiderate guests. Hotel was great and close by to so many attractions and restaurants.

Comment: We stay here all the time when visiting our families so we are very familiar with the property. Check in was easy and we were able to choose our room using the Hilton Honors app. The staff is friendly and greets you when you are walking through the property. We used our Hilton Honors benefit at the restaurant but needed to wait both mornings to be seated even though the restaurant was not full. Also, since the last time we stayed at the property, the complimentary coffee in the morning stops at 8 am. This seems a bit early, especially during the holiday time when people are on vacation and enjoy being able to sleep in.

Comment: Do NOT waste your money here. This is the most ridiculous place we’ve ever stayed. It is a shame they call this place a “resort”. I have had much better service at Hampton Inn during Christmas week. The most friendly and helpful staff is the valet people even though we didnt use valet parking.The most ridiculous part is that the breakfast place is more than half empty but you still need to wait for 30 minutes. At the gift shop, more than half of the shelf is empty, you could not even find an original Lay’s chip. And again, they may blame it for the holiday season. But we always travel during Christmas, this never even happened at a 2-star hotel. At least you have food to eat. What a shame to call this place a “resort”. We saw many people ended up walking away from the restaurant———A place pretends to be upscale then fails.Plus, front desk staff gave inconsistent and unclear messages.Overall, Will not recommend anyone stay at this place. Putting up decoration on the front desk cannot cover the fact that the quality of this place is unacceptable.The only good part is the location and the closeness to LegoLand but there are other options in the area and will definite go somewhere else when we are back in the area.

Food is fine, waiting staff are fine, but the fact that only 20 minutes after opening you are told you have a 15 minute wait just to get seated is unacceptable. Especially given that the seating area was barely a third occupied! A colleague had a 40 minute wait fir coffee and one croissant! This resulted in our being late to meeting business colleagues .Also - The breakfast hostess had a particularly poor attitude after I gave feedback to the manager on the front desk about the long waits. The following day - at breakfast - I was completely (and continually) blanked by her, which is completely unacceptable behaviour. Even the other waiting staff seemed embarrassed by it!These events happened more than once across a 10 day business stay. Will absolutely not return to this hotel when I am back in the area.And the policy on dogs is questionable too. Seems to be acceptable to bring a dog, leave it on its own in a room for hours on end to bark and howl. Nobody seems at all interested. Poor!Updated: All of my concerns were fed back to the hotel management in detail. The response about dogs made no sense at all! Dogs being left in rooms to bark and howl for hours means that the dogs are in distress!

Comment: I recently stayed at a Hilton Cape Rey resort hotel in Carlsbad and unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The room I was given was not properly cleaned. The bathroom was particularly problematic, as the bathtub was not working properly and the water wouldnt drain properly. This made it very difficult to take a shower. The bathroom floor was dirty with hair. When I brought up my concerns to the staff, they were not very helpful and seemed disinterested in addressing the issues and they mentioned no other rooms were available to change. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay and I would not recommend this hotel to others. Being a long time Hilton Honors customer...never came across any Hilton property ...with such a bad maintaince ..

Comment: While this does have the resort moniker in the name, its nothing more than a hotel with a spa and some rental bikes.With that out of the way, this is a really nice hotel and the pool is definitely a place to hang out all day if you can. The proximity to the beach is nice and you can get there with a short walk.Chandlers; my food (house salad and Poke) was really tasty, crisp and fresh. Over the course of the week I stayed, I had heard several times from other patrons that their food was either under cooked, soggy fries or not what they expected. So buyer beware.Overall, the hotel was clean, staff was nice and the location was ok. I would stay here again, if work was paying for it, but not in my own dime. Theres a Hilton Garden Inn up the street that offers essentially the same amenities or another down south a bit on Carlsbad Parkway that is more of the resort status the name expects.

Comment: Beautiful Resort and Spa overlooking the Pacific Ocean in beautiful Carlsbad, California.We attended a lunch Holiday party at the hotel and Kristen, our event manager, was wonderful. The event was outdoor, and we had an amazing view of the ocean. It was well planned, and everything was ready when we arrived. The staff in attendance was available for any needs. The food was delicious and there was enough for everybody.After the party, we stayed for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, the attendants were very cordial and attentive. Comment: I love staying at this property. The gym is large and includes a Peloton bike. There are the shoe cages so dont have to bring your own cycling shoes. Theres free coffee in the morning starting at 6:30 am, bikes you can rent, and a large pool area. The property is extremely clean and the staff is helpful. Some of the bathrooms have some wear and tear but are still clean. The rooms range from $166 - $275 most week nights.

Comment: Watch out for THEFT and the bad customer service. We have stayed at this hotel multiple times and on my last visit I accidentally left $1000 Louis Vuitton bag in the room. Called them within 30 min of leaving. They couldn’t figure out who even cleaned the room.Took 45 min on hold to get someone to even look.By that time it was “gone”Also the restaurant is not good and way overpriced. I suggest going into town and getting food.So beware with all your items at this hotel. It was shocking that the person that answered the phone did not seem surprised that it was stolen. Seems to be a common theme at this hotel. No matter how nice the hotel is, it’s not worth going there if you don’t feel safe and need to watch every single item as the staff seems to have sticky fingers.Don’t go ! !!Try the Hyatt Carlsbad or four seasons.Ten stays and no theft at those hotels.Update. ! 3 years later and still nobody even called back.Sad.

Comment: My wife and I was celebrating our 25 yr wedding anniversary. The location is perfect and the facility is really nice. The room upon entering was very hot 80°. The bedroom AC was broken and it took them 3 attempts to fix it mainly because the staff was very dismissive when I engaged them multiple times. One staff member lied to me which speaks to a major cultural issue with the Frontline staff. The maintenance crew had exceptional customer service, best in the building which is a bad thing. I spent about 4 hrs with the maintenance team making sure the AC was fixed. The first night was horrible due to how hot the bedroom was. The remainder of the stay was very nice. My wife and I had to clean the bathrooms due to the amount of hair left in the room. Im disappointed to see that exceptional customer service was offered to other guests but not my wife and I. That ruined our 25th anniversary celebration.

Comment: So I will say that I find it interesting that when you get an e-mail asking if you enjoyed your stay, it directs you to a Google Review, if you answer No, it takes you to an internal survey, so balance the reviews. The below is based on an experience in September, which was obviously not the busiest time and a room upgrade was provided prior to check-in without asking as part of having status.That said, we had a family of four with two younger kids and were on property for five days. They thoroughly enjoyed the stay and the ability to quickly get to other places. This part of Carlsbad was very low key and easy to get from point A to point B. Shopping centers are around the corner and the hotel does have bikes you can use to get there.Reading through the reviews, I realized we never got to the valet portion of the beach, but had a wonderful time exploring the state park beach across from the hotel.We were probably the reason for the complaints about the walls being thin, apologies, but didnt notice it ourselves :-).We did spend a considerable amount of time at the pool in the evenings and the lighting was amazing to see the vistas right across the road. The pool had some sand in the bottom, but it is right across the street from the beach, Im not clear whats expected.Chandlers, the on-site restaurant, is about what you would expect for a resort restaurant on price, but was very filling and while the menu was limited, it was obvious that it was so they could focus on making sure these dishes shined. That was not expected and made it easy to come back each day and spend well above the Hilton Honors F&B credits.Wed booked with points, so were very pleasantly surprised when we checked out that they waived the resort fees. Much Appreciated!When your seven year old asks on the way back to the airport, can we come back here again after 5 days, thats a 5 star response.

I had the pleasure of working with Kristen Prigatano for a wedding and her presence made such a difference to my client and coordination team! When we had last minutes changes to the whole timeline she was quick to adapt and make my clients feel good about the venue they had selected. Comment: I booked a room for a night out celebrating my wife’s Birthday. Took the time to select a King room at this location after consideringother locations. The view was great just across PCH from the ocean.When I went to check in things seemed smooth, gave my ID got keys and was given directions, we drive to the lot park and carry all of our items in. Open the door and realize we have a room with double beds, leave walk straight down to the check in counter. I re wait in line and tell the same person I have the wrong room, to switch he does not seem shocked. He says they are probably sold out, and since I chose to use a third party to book they disregarded what I selected. Talk about being told you aren’t valuable to a business, like my hard earned money isn’t good enough since I used a service to save with. I expressed that that wasn’t reasonable I had booked a particular room and he handed me off to a second person working the desk. She told me they were sold out of what I booked but could offer me an upgrade if I was willing to pay for it. I knew this higher end rooms were there and available but the extra cost wasn’t in my budget which was why I selected the one I had booked. Again I told them I felt lied to and under appreciated as a paying guest. At this point I asked for a supervisor as I had now wasted 25 minutes going no where with them. The supervisor came out and was after a few minutes able to locate a room equivalent to what I paid for, what a scam. They went so out of their way to get me to take the thing that I booked and paid for, Lied about it not being available and tried to get me to take a lesser room or pay more under the stress. This hotel is supposed to be a 4 Star location, the view may be amazing but the customer care and service was horrible. They need some training on how to take care of guests spending hard earned money to stay with them. And if they are going to look down on people using 3rd party booking services maybe they shouldn’t offer them. Very disappointed

Comment: This hotel has so much potential but lacks service and competence on most fronts. The room was disgusting upon arrival with hair in the shower and big yellow stains on one of the bedsheets. Housekeeping took almost 2hrs to come back and fix the issue. Housekeeping would continue to be a disappointment for the remainder of the stay. We requested room clean up after day 3 and they didnt even take out the trash.Front desk gave us mixed messages and wrong information all the time. It was exhausting to deal with them. Our key stopped working. They charged us $120/night for incidentals instead of $100 as their posted policy states. They sent housekeeping to the wrong room more than once.The beach they set up at is South Ponto which is rocky and not family friendly. It is also about a mile drive out. We went to North Ponto and the beach by the village and those were better but were denied beach chairs by the Ramon the Valet. He took them out and then took them back in when he found out were going to a different beach.The pool was not clean with leaves and dead bugs that stayed from day to day and did not have enough beach chairs for the amount of people there. And people were reserving them early with towels but not showing up for hours later and the staff just shrugged.The winning and shining spot is their Valet team, with the exception of Ramon. The rest of the valet team more than made up for those shortcomings, they were friendly and very helpful.The other star I give is for the restaurant. They are super friendly, good food, and great view.Overall, I would not recommend this property. There are better options in the area. The cleanliness and the poor training of the front desk staff made for a frustrating experience.

Comment: This is a very nice hotel and resort but it lacks a few things to make it a full five star. The rooms are nice, but the walls are thin and noise is an issue between rooms. The cleaning staff need to pay more attention to detail. When we checked into our room, there was a very dirty clothe in the bathroom, leftover food in the mini-fridge and a visible layer of dust on the tables. The pool is great and the food service is efficient. A well equipped gym is available. The restaurant is good and has top notch dishes. Their chef staff is obviously well trained. While it is close to beach access, without a car you are quite isolated at this location. The valet service is very good and can take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius. The little villages nearby are worth exploring.

Comment: Beautiful resort property. My son loved taking a bike ride down to the beach. Employees were stellar. However, there was one hitch in our one night stay.We were staying on the 2nd floor, and at about 10pm there was galloping, jumping and parkouring off the floor/ceiling/walls somewhere above us. I figured it was a couple of kids left to their own devices while the parents enjoyed the hot tub, and it would end at 11pm. Was my hypothesis correct? Nope. Not at all. I called the front desk around 11 to let them know about the Riverdance convention on the floor above. The poor employee couldnt believe the Boots Are Made For Walkin guests hadnt stopped yet, which implied she had already had many complaints and tried to deal with the top floor Running of the Bulls event. She informed me that she was going to call security and apologized profusely. Does my story end there? Of course not! After another ten minutes of ceiling drywall now becoming my dry shampoo, it was obvious our lead-footed friends were directly above our room. With no end in sight, I took matters into my own hands and went upstairs. Boy, am I disappointed in myself for not packing my tap shoes. I knocked on the door of the Pogo Stick Roller Derby neighbors, and to my shock, I saw a small toddler.... a human child, and his parents watching him wear down a spot in the carpet with his best drunk horse moves. Thats right, a tiny human sounding like a giraffe learning how to roller skate while his parents idly sat by like Helen Keller. I actually had to explain to them that there are guests in rooms below them that dont appreciate not being invited to the furniture pushing contest above.When I was finally able to brush the ceiling tiles from my hair and turn down for the night, I did notice a security guard standing outside, apparently not brave enough to face the tiny tormentor of the third floor.

Comment: We noticed that A/C didn’t work. We called the front desk. They sent a technician. He told us that we should set the fan to ‘auto’, not ‘on’. He also set the temperature to 50 degrees. He said after 20 minutes or so, we can change it to 70. The thermostat showed the room temperature as 80 although It wasn’t quite that bad. After a while, it seemed working. So I changed the temperature back to 70, but it got warm again. So, for the whole night, it was set to 50, but the thermostat still showed 80 in the morning. It was too warm for the whole night although it wasn’t quite 80. I think the thermostat and maybe A/C are broken.

Comment: Very excellent stay at this resort. I was there with my son for his work event. The staff was Ultra helpful . The first night we ordered from the restaurant, and my son had a shrimp zoodle with an Indian peanut sauce on it. It smelled divine, and he loved it! Every meal that I had from the restaurant at the resort was excellent! I was charged nothing by the valet for the ride from the resort out to the lets make music museum. The drivers were very personable and extremely helpful about where to eat, where to go next, and how to get around. I had no clue about them since my son was otherwise engaged all day. Very clean rooms in the bathrooms are big and spacious on the first floor. Loved it! If you travel outside of about a 15-minute radius, then an Uber or Lyft is required. San Diego is about 30 minutes away.

This “resort experience” was mostly sub-par.Lobby was nice and renovated and that helps with marketing and convocations may be.I care most about my room and it was dated, bathroom shower in poor condition, furniture and carpet worn out. Bath towels were flimsy, hard to touch and worn out too.Hospitality aspect also lacked otherwise I could have overlooked other aspects.I could have got better room and hospitality at a place like a Comfort Inn or Holiday Inn.I don’t care if Hilton management spent millions of dollars renovating lobby area at this specific resort. Comment: As a Hilton Honors Diamond member who vacations and travels for work and recreation in the San Diego area, I can assure you, this property needs an update.July 2023 Update: There are ABSOLUTELY ZERO Tesla or EV CHARGERS ON SITE IN AN ENTIRE TWO STORY PARKING GARAGE AT THE RESORT. If/when you stay here, be prepared to go elsewhere to charge your vehicle. The grocery store around the corner only has two (2) L2 chargers available (Volta Network) where you take your chances of having to wait TWO (2) hours plus per each charger for another person to charge their EV, like I did, assuming another person is not waiting in line.Other Cons: $30/per day parking fee PLUS $30/per day Resort Fee just to sit outside by the pool.I have stayed at this property a total of three (3) times, now, mostly due to its location of being situated directly across from the ocean.The propertys suites are but one example of Hilton corporates failure to maintain brand consistency, with what they term a suite. The suites at Cape Rey are not suites at all in comparison with the suites at the Homewood Suites or Home2Suites by Hilton that are priced at nearly half the cost.There is no kitchen area in any of Cape Reys suites, but only a wet bar for starters; they give you a mini fridge thats barely large enough to keep food chilled (cool) for more than two 2 people for a day; the lighting is very poor in the suite rooms; and the decor needs an update.The restaurant continues to offer a limited menu of items, and the pool area is very small in relation to the number of rooms at the resort.The location and overall experience of the resort could be great, but for now its similar to other Hilton properties along the coast in California that are severely neglected and somehow overlooked by aloof (oblivious) corporate management, who couldnt care less about the resort experience along the California coast.I rate this property 3 Stars average at best until Hilton decides to get their act together and to provide their guests with a world class experience, at a heavily over priced and a now neglected resort.

Comment: It was my first time ever taking a mini vacation this year and Cape Rey in Carlsbad Beach was the right getaway. The highlight was watching the sunset from the pool area, it was like a Luis Miguel La Serie episode. Another great highlight were the bike rentals, I took the bike by the beachfront during the sunset while listening to Luis Miguel and it was a once in a lifetime experience.The rooms were fine, the options for showering were nice. The location was perfect because it was quiet and you had the beach right in front of you, I can’t recommend enough watching the sunsets from the pool area or the beach. Don’t forgot that you can takeout their bikes or surfboards.

The presence of mold on the shower tiles gave the impression of a lower-rated hotel, rather than a supposed luxury establishment. It was disappointing to encounter such subpar towels and a lack of toiletry amenities in a supposed 4.5-star property.The Mothers Day brunch reservation we made turned out to be a letdown as well. The lackluster enthusiasm displayed by the chef and restaurant staff raised doubts about the quality of the dining experience, leading us to cancel our reservation to avoid a potentially disappointing meal.Adding to the disappointment, our balcony room overlooked a state park with a view of a motor home parking lot. The constant traffic noise disrupted the expected ambiance and relaxation that should come with a higher-rated hotel. Although the cleanliness and comfort of the beds and pillows were satisfactory, Cape Rey Hilton failed to deliver the level of service and amenities one would anticipate from a 4.5-star establishment.In conclusion, considering the issues encountered during my stay, I cannot recommend Cape Rey Hilton as a true reflection of a 4.5-star hotel experience. Very slight knocks with the room with not emptying one of the trash cans in the room(didn’t smell so no harm no foul), and the fridge wasn’t emptied and had some old grapes, Chardonnay and cranberry juice that did smell but we didn’t need to use the fridge so again, no harm no foul.Incredible service all around with the valet always greeting even though we didn’t use them, the front desk making checking in fun and helping out when we needed them, the help at the pool and great wait staff at the restaurant.Overall a great stay and we will definitely be back.

Comment: Id avoid the rooms in the back of the hotel, away from the water, as the service vehicle noise was terrible. After moving to the water facing side, the view, the room, the ambiance were all amazing. Great poolside experience as well.Room service was reasonably priced but drinks we overpriced and in my experience, not very well made.All that said, Ill likely not stay anywhere else when I come to the Carlsbad area.

The bed feels comfortable, the pool was so big, and hopefully the water feels warm. I’m so glad to be here in the hotel and it’s going to be one of my favorite hotels to stay in.

Comment: This is a nice hotel in Carlsbad but not a resort in the least. They charge you a $35 / day resort fee and $30 a day to self park and they dont even have a concierge. Very understaffed and not worth the 80k HH points per night. Would recommend the Hilton Garden Inn up the street a mile that is newer and more economical. Staff is just out of touch, kidding themselves if they think its a resort.

The entire hotel and staff are very family friendly too - our boys had a phenomenal time.Location is outstanding: by the water, Carlsbad village, Oceanside and Legoland. I ate at Chandler’s twice and it was good on both occasions. The room was bland. Nothing remarkable at all. I didn’t try the spa or gym opting for the beach and visiting around the area. Comment: To start, I am very picky and very rarely give Excellent reviews for hotels, especially since Covid. Sorry to make this to long. I usually do not make it past the first paragraph when reading reviews. But there are so many good details I would like to share, if you are interested read on. Otherwise, bottom line, this is a well managed hotel. The employees are ALL so nice, and helpful, and accommodating, which is a reflection of management. Nice work!Now for a few details.1. Weather was crazy, I ask to extend my stay because I was fearful of driving in bad weather, then I ask to leave a day early because the weather changed, I had a small window to get on the road. All the people I talked with were so nice and helpful.2. Room service was easy, and not expensive, my room was a ways from the restaurant and the room delivery was extremally helpful. And it was all done cheerfully. Never once did I feel like an inconvenience, as in other hotels I have stayed at last year.3. Cleanliness, wow, this is the cleanest hotel I have stayed at, ever. (even the Ritz Carlton). The housekeeper even stopped by, with out my need to request, to see if I needed a refresh. It was just nice. If I did not want to be disturbed, I left my door sign out and no one bother me. When my room was refreshed, she changed all the towels, emptied all the trash, refilled coffee. And it all seem to be done cheerfully, you can tell she took pride in the hotel.4. Well maintained, everything worked.5. The room had everything, and well placed. It had a microwave, refrigerator and the Krieg coffee pot (I bring my own pods) . It had a luggage rack, large closet and a nice desk. All lights were easy to find out how to turn on and place in perfect spots. I usually need rearrange rooms to work for me and some of my health equipment. I did not need to do any this time. And it was spacious.4. The photography pictures were beautiful. The ones in my room were of South Carlsbad beach. I was sad that I could not make it physically to the beach, because of the crazy weather. But I looked up from the desk and the picture of the stairs down to the beach took my breath away. I felt like I was there. Everywhere I looked there were the beautiful pictures. Definitely an exclusive for this hotel.5. Finally the price was reasonable for my oceanfront room, with a full view. I was going to stay in Huntington, but decided Carlsbad, because it was more central to some activities I was doing. Cape Rey was fifteen hundred less than where I was going to stay, and I think the room, the view and definitely the service was much better.One tiny con, which I believe was not in the hotels control. I miss the old days when room service meals were served on nice trays with real dishes and silverware. Not just in a box. The food I received tasted so good :), the fruit bowl and vegies were amazing. I am just not a fan of eating out of a box. Maybe I will ask for a plate on the side next time :).Otherwise, perfect stay. I wish I could have stayed a bit longer. Thank you for giving me a well needed rest and vacation.

Comment: The valet parking, check in, rooms with a great view and Chandlers bar/restaurant were great! The valet shuttle us in a beautiful BMW to the Blue Ocean Sushi restaurant in town. Recommend to get their by 5pm as the Blue Ocean restaurant is fully packed from 6pm-8pm. Stefan and Katelyn (Manager) who turned out to be hero by finding the customers Credit Card and saved the day. She was focused and always tried to give us options for the different types of beer. The resort has a heated pool which was amazing! There is a beautiful beach across the street. Lots of people biking, running and enjoying the ocean side. Great place!! They really made us feel welcomed!!!!

Comment: We cannot rave about Cape Rey enough! We were blown away from the prompt accommodations, customer service, and cleanliness of the hotel. We felt so special right from the beginning all the way till the end. The Valet and Front Desk always greeted us with a warm welcome and smile. Everyone made us feel VIP. Our room was absolutely perfect, LOVED the view, blackout curtains and the hot shower : ). Housekeeping did a phenomenal job cleaning our room everyday and stocking towels. (P.S The beds were heavenly! ) We honestly do not have one compliment. We ordered food to go daily from the restaurant and ate inside the restaurant a few times (breakfast and dinner). Food was delicious and staff was so friendly! We enjoyed the daily coffee in the lobby, rode bikes to watch the sunset, swam in the pool and utilized your business center near the lobby. We will highly recommend Cape Rey to our clients and friends. We will for sure be back! Thank you for an above and beyond experience! Huge shout out to Sales Manager, Colleen Cosenza for her exceptional customer service and help. Her prompt reply was incredible. Cape Rey is lucky to have her! Comment: The restaurant is nice, but the rooms need an update. They want this touted as a luxury hotel, but the facilities are far from that.Further, as others have mentioned, the balcony view is not at all worth the additional money. All you hear is traffic, and all you see are cars and RVs.Lastly, they automatically add parking to your bill, and then good luck getting it removed! They make money off of adding parking and assuming people dont check their bills (which, admittedly, I rarely do anymore because I trust most Hilton Hotels). Ive called multiple times, and they now refuse to answer or transfer me to a person who can help. Ill be working on this through the Hilton Diamond desk - in the meantime, I have left a vm with the hotel requesting to speak to a General Manager, but given my experience with the front desk and accounting not responding, Im not hopeful. Hilton Corporate will get my complaint instead.I have a trip scheduled in the area again next month, and I would never even consider this hotel as an option based on the room conditions alone, but certainly never now due to the mismanagement of my account.

If you bring the family, there is no real beach access across the street, but they have a shuttle that takes you to the beach. You can rent bikes too.

Comment: We paid for an upgraded ocean view room with a balcony and it didnt disappoint (3rd floor). I even saw dolphins. It was quiet. We couldnt hear our neighbors at all. The room was spacious. Bathroom was nice. Although I wish they had given us an extra towel or two. It is not technically beachfront as advertised. It is across a busy street (yes, a crosswalk with a stop light so thats nice) but the rv/camping area is actually what is beach front. I did not mind this but you should go there knowing this so you dont expect to leave the property and have to cross and street, go through an rv/camping area and then down some steps. My biggest complaint for it being advertised as a luxury resort is the bed was really terrible. I tossed and turned. I always travel with my own pillows so that helped but had I slept on that bed with the awful pillows, it would have been worse. Parking is either self park ($26/night) or valet ($31/night). The self park is across a little side street. Its gated and you get in and out with your room key but a little inconvenient moving bags in and out. And if you have kids, youll definitely want hubby to pick you guys up by the door. Would I stay here again? Maybe. IDK if Id want to sleep in that uncomfortable bed again.

Our 1st day we went to the restaurant and it took about 15min just for the staff to get us water and a server didnt seem to be coming in the near future, so we went into town to grab a bite. When we got a room there were a few things missing so we called to get that fixed and it took a little over 30 minutes to get anything. Once room service arrived he knocked and I asked that he wait and that I was coming to the door. Before I could even get to the door he opened it up and I had to run and close the door on him because I was not dressed. Quite an unpleasant experience for a one night stay in a 300$ hotel room.

Comment: It was beautiful and well maintained, right by the beach. the pool area is definitely worth the extra money. really my only complaint is whenever we tried to call the front office or the restaurant to get food, our call was seldom answered. we had to go down to the front desk or the restaurant to order or get help. frustrating when you need to request more towels for the bathrooms. although the food was good. i recommend a charcuterie board. we also took advantage of their “beach butler” service, which was very nice. all of the beaches in Carlsbad are rocky but they take you to one that is tolerable. they are also within walking distance of a Rite Aid if you need to grab any necessities or snacks.

From the point we drove in and were responded with a Smile and good morning from the Valet, to checking in with Katy at the front desk, to getting to our room which was a 3rd Floor Double Queen, Balcony OCEAN VIEW! Everything was great! The View is incredible even with the cars on the road below. The Room was very clean! If you are using the Valet, there is a valet button on the phone to allow you to call them ahead of time and they have the car waiting for you! Self parking is fairly close, but for the little bit extra, I recommend the Valet! Such a great place and although several guests said the beds were uncomfortable, we were very pleased. This hotel is fabulous, better than in the reviews...The pool is beautiful, the area around the pool is great for day and night gatherings. The restaurant is wonderful, it is super cute and the food is great. The employees are all so friendly and helpful.Some things in the room could be updated, its not the four seaons but pretty darn close, but if you want perfection you would have to pay much more...I am so very happy with our choice to stay at Cape Rey. We brought 20 people and everyone is having a great time. I would highly recommend and will be back.

Comment: The worst Hilton I have ever stayed on. Spend weekend there about two weeks ago and I cannot recommend this place at all. There was a wedding there which is why I think they were low on staff and maybe impatient but that does not excuse the room and the front desk.The first night of staying there, the water would not drain in the tub. We called but we were told all the engineers were busy and needed like 30 minutes. We waited but no one came, called again and were told they needed more time. We had reservations so had to leave. They supposedly worked on it when we left but in the morning, we still had issues.It is really bad service. I paid full price for a nice weekend and even more because every room was booked. Not a good experience and I highly recommend going elsewhere.

Comment: I had a terrible experience at my stay here, involving very unprofessional employees.Let me start from the beginning:My boyfriend and I came here to spend some quality time for our anniversary and his birthday. While checking in, we were asked if we’d like to opt in or out of cleaning services, and we decided we wanted to opt out.The next day comes around and my boyfriend and I were getting ready to leave for the beach. For his birthday, which was a few days prior to our trip, I bought him a hawaiian beaded bracelet and for security and safety reasons, my boyfriend decided not to take it to the beach with him, but to place it carefully on our room’s TV counter (rather than the safe since we had opted out of cleaning services) before he began spraying SPF. When we came back from the beach, we noticed the bracelet was gone and also noticed our room was cleaned by a hotel staff. This was made very obvious (& later confirmed by Supervisor checking the cleaning log) because we had IN-N-OUT the night before and our takeout bag wasn’t there. Of course we were upset but this was the last night of our trip, we came back late, and had dinner reservations to get ready for so we decided we’d worry about the bracelet as we checked out tomorrow at 12PM.The next day as we were packing, we looked relentlessly and every crevice of our room and unfortunately didn’t find the bracelet. We went to front desk and told them the situation while also checking out. Cleaning supervisor comes out, we repeat the situation to her, so she goes and checks our room, also unable to find the bracelet. She then tells us there’s practically nothing she can do but her manager and the worker who cleaned our room would be there tomorrow, past our check out day, and that the manager will call us.Our interaction with the manager, Rene was extremely unprofessional. First, he was never the one to call us, my boyfriend called 2 times until Rene finally decided to call back. Second, he accused us of lying, which we aren’t nor do we have the time for, while saying multiple lies himself like he heard we left the hotel and came back to report the bracelet missing (lie) and then mocked us by saying if it were him in this situation, he would’ve reported it the day it went missing and things could’ve potentially been different (also lie). The timing of which we report something doesn’t change the hotel’s policy, which is the reason they claimed to be so helpless. We didn’t want to ruin our stay and we didn’t think we’d have dealt with such negativity and unprofessionalism. We were certain we’d find the bracelet with the help of professional staff but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. He also accused us lying about opting out of cleaning services when he never checked with his own front desk employee; clearly the woman helping us clicked the wrong button and opted us in even though we made it very clear we wanted to be opted out.All in all, my boyfriend’s bracelet is still lost and stolen and not one person from this company/team tried to offer us a solution even as simple as checking their lost and found. I’m extremely disappointed with my stay and the situation we were put in that could have simply been avoided had the staff been more diligent with their customers and had opted us out, and if the staff were apologetic and helpful in finding the bracelet that I had JUST purchased for my partner. Not to mention being accused of liars rather than offering an apology for their own mistakes.

There was blood in the bedding and sheets appeared to not have been changed, there was some hair etc. When I was out I asked them to change bedding, they changed the sheets but not the bloody one so I had to keep calling to get someone to come bring me new bedding. Went to get coffee in the morning and the front desk simply stated they were out and you could go to the restaurant and get some. No towels at the pool at 9:30am. Went to front desk and they stated they will be out be 11:00. Check out is at noon so no time to enjoy the pool! Front desk stated go see valet and they will give me a towel if I couldn’t wait. Comment: We spent 3 days at Cape Rey. The resort itself was clean and inviting, and our room was spacious with an amazingly large balcony. The location of the resort was also conveniently located for our trips to San Diego, La Jolla and Carlsbad. Most importantly, the employees in the valet department were extremely kind, helpful, and informative. Those gentlemen are certainly the gems of the resort. However, the employee who checked us in had no personality, was perhaps a little on the snobby side, and told us nothing about the resort offerings except for dining times. The views of the ocean from our balcony, although still nice, did not completely resemble their advertised pictures. Unfortunately, there is a large RV park that obstructs most of the view. Additionally, the check-out time is 12pm, but the employees were already knocking on our door at 9am to clean the room for the next guests. The cleaning service then came back knocking at 10:20am, and we let them in even though we were still in the process of getting our belongings together for check-out. We thought that it was exceptionally rude for management to allow such a thing before their customers even check-out for the day. Therefore, although Cape Rey has some really nice pros, the cons make it not very worthy for a costly 4 star resort.

Comment: I will start with the pros: Restaurant removed the cost of the nasty oatmeal from the bill. The pool is nice and large.Cons: When we arrived in what was supposed to be an “ocean view” King, with a balcony, it was actually a poolside/right next to the hot-tub view. Had we known this, we would not have chosen this room. Not to mention, they leave out the fact that it’s a pool view first, then a busy street, then an eye soar of trailers and campers and then the ocean. Your so-called “ocean view” is grossly obstructed by a trailer park.Other minor negatives: No blankets on the bed, had to request extras, non-hotel guests brought kids to the pool (this didn’t bother us, just an fyi for the hotel), we were charged for parking even though we said several times we didn’t have a car, and we were charged for cancelling, even though we clearly stayed 3 nights. Also, the breakfast at the restaurant was mediocre. I ordered oatmeal that was nasty and mostly liquid.One of our bigger disappointments was the coffee and water in the lobby, or should I say, lack of. Even the cheapest of hotels offer water and coffee all day in the lobby. Every time we went to get water, the container was usually empty, and they only offer coffee for a little while in the morning. The worst part is the physical set up of the coffee station. Only one person can get coffee at a time due to where the table is placed. I will attach photos to my review. Big disappointment in Hilton for all the money Hilton has and they limit the coffee in the lobby.All in all, I am not even sure why this is considered a resort. To us, it was a very over-priced hotel that we will not be returning to.

Comment: I had a great experience at Cape Rey Carlsbad . The service was great all the way around. I suggest to please remember to tip valets and shuttled busses personal and the workers that set up the beach area for you. I did not see any of the above getting tipped and they were courteous and hard workers. When booking a reservation before booking under kayak or anything else call the hotel direct to see if military, AARP.. or senior citizens discount are excepted for a better rate through the hotel. Other wise you will not get it once it is booked. I had a great stay. I highly recommen this place. The only thing that was not top notch was house cleaning. The house cleaning did not fully supply with towels and toiletries, However the front desk gave us everything we needed.

Comment: I am a regular visitor to this hotel,which I love for its location and amenities. But this stay, which was a special one to celebrate my mother’s 65th birthday was very disappointing. Our initial check in was marked by pretty rude service which was later fixed by Michelle at the front desk (who was great). Service at the pool was incredibly slow (only one attendant so it wasn’t for lack of trying). Then when it came time to order room service, delivery to the room was unavailable, one of our food orders was cancelled because the restaurant ran out (but no one asked us what we’d like as a replacement) and the food itself was cold, overcooked, and bland at best. The rooms also left a lot to be desired on cleanliness this visit. Overall, very sad to see the hotels level of service drop.

Comment: I’m always excited and nervous when choosing a hotel for vacation. Not sure what it will be like and I want it to be super fun for the entire family.FORTUNATELY, this place was off the hook so wonderful. In every sense. The family absolutely loved it! A sigh of relief for daddy. :)Ocean view is what you get for over half of the rooms which you get full sunsets, the restaurant on site is VERY good, parking very close to specific room, pool is perfect size, they were VERY kid friendly which was a MAJOR plus for us. staff…. everyone was amazing. they have a little robot that can deliver things to the room which is super fun for the kiddos. It unfortunately broke down while we were there but hopefully next time we come it will be working. Wife loved the room, cleanliness and view. Daddy for the win! :)Come hang out at this hotel!

Comment: Service was fantastic, spa was heavenly, ocean view from the first floor was spectacular, and for being a fairly busy resort, it was still quiet enough to enjoy a good nights sleep! The pool is also a great place to hang out - towels are provided, wait staff available, outside mini bar to avoid going inside, and plenty of room to pick a chair to relax in without feeling overcrowded. I ended up extending my stay and couldnt be happier!

Rooms and all areas were very clean and well kept. Free coffee in the mornings in the lobby. Shuttle access to South Ponto Beach too. Only suggestion would be to allow the Surf Ride store to open earlier. As someone who wanted to rent a surf board, it was never open by the time we left for the beach.

We loved the pool area, water temp was perfect, the view was amazing and we even took a quick walk across the street to play at the beach. I want to highlight that we were very pleased with how the manager handled one small issue we had with a food order (hoping the kitchen opens a little earlier than 12 in future for poolside) and because of his professionalism and kindness we will certainly recommend this hotel to all our friends!! I wish I wrote down his name because he really deserves recognition. He did speak about how he has plans to improve things even further in the future and we look forward to another visit to this fantastic vacation resort! PS the robots were a major highlight as well!

We didnt have free beach towels or even pool towels available to us most of our stay (at a beachfront hotel...). The free bikes to take out were pretty sketchy and didnt include helmets. We also got called 3 times this morning (Sunday) to come downstairs and put a card on file when it was their mistake for not doing it right when we first checked in. We are in town for a funeral so this trip has already been hard enough and we were really hoping for a soft spot to land. This hotel has NOT been it.

Comment: This is the worst luxury hotel my family and I have ever stayed in. The workers are wonderful, but the management is absolutely absurd. They claim to be a 4 star hotel, but it leans closer to a 3 star in my opinion. This is supposed to be a popular hotel, but I don’t understand why anyone would willingly spend so much money on a place like this. The hotel is not clean, the view is mediocre, the pool is underwhelming, the architecture is basic, and the service is terrible. Upon first arrival, we noticed a 3 mile long RV park across the road, which blocks access to the beach and was not clearly marketed on the website. The hotel does have a shuttle that takes you to the beach, but the beach is not pleasant. It is incredibly rocky and has 10 foot waves, which might be great for a surfer, but the average person coming to this hotel is looking to relax. The hotel markets itself as beachfront. It is not beachfront, more like beach-adjacent. The hotel didn’t have towels for us for the entire day. We asked multiple times if we could get some beach towels and we were sent to the beach without any, for the entire hotel ran out. What kind of beach hotel doesn’t have enough towels? The restaurant in the hotel is mediocre at best and the service is incredibly slow. Maybe my expectations are too high, but I have never been treated so poorly by a hotel in my entire life. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Comment: Wow! What an awesome vacation! My husband and kids had a wonderful experience at this hotel. We were warmly greeted immediately outside at our car from bell hop and check in staff upon driving up on a busy Saturday. The hotel is a beautiful property, even nicer than the pics. Next stop restaurant and bar-also great! We were able to easily walk across the street every day to the beach b/c the location is conveniently located at a cross walk from the beach.I liked that the beach was populated by families camping and surfers as well as helpful beach rangers that really keep the beach park beautiful and safe feeling. Directly on the beach there is a little cafe we ate at with good food and band playing Saturday night.The hotel is located in a really fancy resort neighborhood surrounded by beautiful gardens and luxurious shopping. Convenient parking lot, luxurious cozy-comfy beds with light down comforter & pillows, daily food allowance with gold membership. I loved the patio in our room with beach view across the freeway. Despite the freeway, still really nice to sit in the beautiful patio at sunset surrounded by beautiful gardens and visits from a few cute bunnies hopping through the gardens. I will post pic to show y’all how pretty the view is. Obviously, we will be back here again. Can’t wait to return to paradise 🌞 🏖 🌺 wow!

Property is in good condition and location is excellent.The BAD: I have had a myriad of billing issues that started at check in. The young, nice girl who assisted me took a $2K charge at check in, to be refunded upon check out (against any incidentals that I charged). The incidental authorization should have been $100/nite. Huge screw up, but I couldnt sit there and argue with her and the manager was nowhere to be seen and I was traveling with young children, eager to get them to bed.My check out process was equally disastrous. Even though I pre-paid my entire stay (cost ~$2500) prior to check in, I was charged 1 extra full night at check out. This despite my visiting with the desk prior to check out.I worked with the front desk to resolve this problem and am apparently waiting to hear from mgmt. At this time, I am still short approx $600, no fault of my own. I even showed the hotel evidence of my pre-paid receipt!!!Further, as a Diamond Club Honors member, I should have received an upgraded room and also $30/day credit to be spent at the hotel. I was not provided with any sort of credit or an offer to upgrade.I would expect a lot more for being a Diamond Club member.Buyer beware.

Had to deal with moving rooms twice, first because of constant noise from upstairs, and the room i was put in had vomit on the carpet, and was very obviously not cleaned at all, and had broken screen doors, and a nasty odor. The third room i was put in had a musky smell as well, and again noise coming from other guests, very poorly insulated building. It got so bad that I had to depart early as I was not able to relax or even hear the TV in my room. I had to depart at 10pm at night and after complaining at the front desk i was told I wouldnt be charged for the night i left early, only to be billed for the night anyways. Still trying to get my money back at the time of this review, absolutely unacceptable. They just tried to get me to shut up without the intention of following the through on the promise. Terrible experience, skip this hotel if you value a relaxing time and good service.

First time due to noise and second time was because the room they moved us to was disgusting there was dried vomit on the floor on the side of the bed and smelled like body odor! Disgusting. I think they rushed to clean the room so they could move us because they told us we had to move by 12pm because they were so busy. We booked a 3 night stay and actually left at 10pm on our last night because it was just ridiculous, more noise really bad. It was really a shame, I’m currently 7.5 months pregnant and was really hoping to relax and enjoy a small getaway before baby’s arrival. Then it gets worse, while checking out they let us know we wouldn’t be charged for the last night and of course.. 4 days later we are charged in full for all 3 nights!! Shuttle run to beach is scheduled but they can take or pick up in between if not swamped with bell duties. Beach Butler will set up chairs and umbrellas on demand and has water and towels (but, sadly, no bar). Rooms and facilities were clean. Mattress was too soft (for me). They charge for $26/night for parking - a money grab really - but can validate through restaurant. Menu items are about the same cost. Noon check-out which is appreciated but no speed check out which was a pain since only limited desk staff. Overall, it was good though Ill probably rent a condo next time.

Comment: We stayed 5 nights for RnR. We really did enjoy our stay, would recommend to anyone. As to why 4 out of 5: The concierge seemed a bit disconnected with the rest of the hotel staff in terms of things like saying supposedly having morning breakfast complimentary but that not being the case (its just coffee!), and they didnt really take any time to welcome us and explain any amenities we had to find it out ourselves on our own. Pool/hot tub super nice, but their choice music was so out of touch with times and not even classics. We heard a few good songs but they should reconsider their play list it takes away from the otherwise sweet pool scene. The rooms were overall fine in terms of cleanliness but tip to cleaning staff of 4 star hotel, the TV table/dresser drawer had lots of goop on handles and food particles in cracks of glass top. Its something that could be more regularly cleaned given the high touch area it is and the price of the room! We did book dog friendly room as we have a small dog but were surprised by the number of blank/brown stains across the carpet. We fortunately used slippers (they were not initially provided you have to ask, same with robes), so we avoided walking directly on floors altogether. But still carpets maybe need more regular clean. The noise was minimal in the hotel, they have really good noise reduction in place, likely good doors. The campgrounds across street generate regular smoke at the hotel so if youre tired of smoke in your life, close the windows in evening. We just closed window from about 6/7pm-10pm. After that it markedly improves! Highways busy out front of room but its not a huge issue, you have a nice ocean view, like the smoke, the noise drops a lot at night. Despite those rather minor issues I would recommend it!! Nice spa massage for two, was great, by the way!

We had originally booked a different hotel for our one night stay and found out the day of check-in that we couldn’t check-in due to some repairs being completed at the hotel. Scrambling to find another hotel on Easter wasn’t ideal, but the team at the Cape Rey made us feel welcome. When we explained what had happened, they made sure we knew that we had a room there and shouldn’t expect any problems. They even put us in an ocean view room when we only requested/booked a standard room. It was a nice surprise after the stress of trying to find another hotel. We will definitely stay again and for more than one night!

I think that a hotel resort of that small size that it is possible to have a cleanliness that is absolute. There was a lot of dust behind furniture that you could tell was a accumulation of years and decades. The fact that I had to breathe that was disturbing. I was congested despite the ocean air. The second thing I saw was the floors were not vacuumed and had a lot of hair on the carpet. I stayed two days and never heard housekeeping vacuuming the floors even though I seen multiple maid carts with vacuums on them. On a more positive note, the ocean view was amazing and the staff was attentive and helpful.

This hotel is a great place to stay in the San Diego area.The most salient features are the pool, the ocean and the low key vibe. The ocean is just across the street. The pool is zero entry, large and there is a hot tub people can enjoy. Food and beverages can be ordered at the restaurant and enjoyed pool side.Need a low key day? Start with breakfast at the hotel (kids insist on it) and then spend time at the pool, walk to the beach, repeat with dinner and sunset poolside.When you need to explore the city, its an easy 30 minutes away. Comment: My family stayed there and were impressed with the level of service. My niece has small children and her smallest daughter had a small accident and was crying and we couldnt find the key. A maintenance employee happened to ve right there and let us in the room. We also had an issue with our vacation rental and the staff was accommodating in allowing us to stay another night. There is a nice on-site restaurant and a nice shop as well. The hotel is right across the street from the beach, but also has a great pool. Great hotel, great location, great staff

Comment: We had the best time in this Resort. The property is well maintained, all services are available and the staff is very welcoming. We had the best check-in experience in years.A highlight worth mentioning is the excellent breakfast menu. Somehow Hilton used the pandemic as excuse to severely downgrade on breakfast quality as well as benefits for status members. Not so in Carlsbad, they offer a well crafted breakfast menu that goes well beyond eggs & bacon and with diamond food credits you can actually get more than a cream cheese bagel.Can only recommend this place for a get-away or when traveling through Southern California.

Comment: Nice hotel but had to walk way too far to get to our room. Housekeeping woke us up with knocking and trying to enter room early in the morning. Luxury bath amenities were a mismatched pair of shampoo/conditioner and soap, no moisturizer, etc. No slippers as mentioned on website. Restaurant looked like a coffee shop, food was average but overpriced. Service was not the best, not at all what we anticipated.

Michelle at the front desk always makes me feel welcome and delivers phenomenal customer service every time Ive stayed here. Highly recommend this awesome place :) and Michelle deserves a raise!!!

Comment: Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach is located next to the state park with quiet beaches and amazing sunsets. We had an ocean view from our balcony, the pool area, fitness center, and the restaurant. The staff is friendly and attentive. We were able to check out beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, and even beach cruisers. The property and lobby are kept pristine. There are professional photos of local beaches, waves, surfers, etc. throughout the hotel that were nice to look at. Chandler’s restaurant on the property is reasonably priced with great food and fresh fish. Carlsbad Village is just a short drive with shops and restaurants. Beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. Our family enjoyed our stay and will choose to stay here again.

Comment: Amazing experience! The view was excellent, the staff friendly, and the rooms highly clean. The view of the coast was beautiful and we even caught a rare glimpse of orcas from our balcony on the day we checked-out. Over all, we had a perfect stay!

Comment: The view of pool and ocean was great! Our ac wasnt working and one point maintenance came in to our room with little to no warning and were not fully dressed. We were moved to a different room and an upgrade was made per my request with no extra cost which was nice. Front desk staff were helpful but when called there was a sense of annoyance in their tone. Overall stay was nice but not 5 star worthy.

Comment: Hotel front desk staff was underwhelming. I felt they were under-trained. They had no idea how to welcome a customer to their hotel. I never saw a front desk staff member smile. My room was clean, but the bed was uncomfortable (hard mattress). Breakfast was great. The food was amazing. The swimming pool was clean and warm. The hotel location is fantastic. Its very close to the beach. The valet people up front were the best. Those guys smiled -- and they were super friendly. I would have given this hotel five stars if the front desk staff were better trained (and more professional, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, etc.).

Comment: Customer service fell short:1) Check-in process: the two check-in representatives did not deliver the same quality customer service. One was a lot more welcoming than the other. Unfortunately, I had the less welcoming one.2) Shower flood: we informed the staff of the leaking shower head early in the day. When the night came, the issue evolved to the shower head not shutting off at all. We had to be relocated at 10 p.m. because they did not want the maintenance engineer in the room at the same time we were going to be in the room. We initially had an ocean-view room away from the pool. We were moved to a “ocean-view” pool side room where we had to deal with the bright blue light from the pool. We expressed how we didn’t like that and had to justify our request to being oceanfront where we didn’t have to deal with the pool light and noise. We finally settled into an ocean-view room, comparable with our initial room - almost 1 hour later.3) Breakfast order: the following morning, I went to order breakfast and had to wait several minutes to be acknowledged by the waitress who was on the phone and had to be told by her co-workers to take my order. I checked back on the status of my order after several people, who were after me, received their orders. It turned out that the order had not been inputted by the waitress! I just had to walk away instead of making a scene.4) Lastly, minimal but the ‘last straw’: on my last morning there, I ordered an Americano with my breakfast (which they inputted as a latte and later had to clarify), and received a half-full cup. I inquired about the amount I received and the waiter apologized and made it right by giving me a full cup.At the end of this experience, I would not stay in this resort again. Having other options in the area and the customer service quality/consistency they lacked I will be exploring other resorts in area. Do better Cape Rey.

Comment: Obviously you can’t beat being oceanfront, however, I was really disappointed that this didn’t feel like an oceanfront property unless you were standing around the front of the pool area, or had an ocean view with a balcony. I opted to spend less on a king with a window, expecting I would still be able to open the window and maybe hear the waves. This wasn’t the case at all. Despite the lack of customers on a Sunday and Monday night, I was placed in a room with frosted stickers on the windows. I wasn’t terribly bothered until after I got my luggage and dog settled, and opened the window. There was no screen, and I immediately could only hear loud air units, which were on the roof outside of my window. Hence the frosted glass. The only positive there was that I couldn’t hear those abominations with the windows closed. There was no indication of being near the water. Even while outside at the pool, you couldn’t hear the ocean over the traffic out front. There’s also an RV park that runs along the water, between the ocean and hotel. Overall, if I knew I’d be put in one of the very few rooms with zero window access, I would never have booked. I’ve stayed at other beach hotels in this area and it would have been worth spending more at a different hotel for an oceanfront experience. However, I think it’s most disappointing that the staff didn’t consider a room across the hall for me considering it was so empty and I was still paying over $300/night. Similarly, the patio dining at Chandler’s has a beautiful view, but the staff were reluctant to seat guests where they preferred based on their seating charts. So, a good affordable place within a short drive to the beach and village, and a beautiful view from the sidewalk.

Comment: The hotel itself was cute, more of a boutique feel. Hotel furniture was a bit dated. The layout was not ideal, far to walk from lobby to our room which had a balcony but it faced the street so ALL we heard was road noise. They had bikes we could borrow but the location wasnt really close to anything to ride to as a destination.With diamond status, I was charged for parking and breakfast drinks + tax + gratuity (the entree was comped if you choose a specific one). Very different from my previous stay with Hyatt where status there gave you free parking and entire breakfast buffet completely comped.

Comment: Lovely view in our room. The room is very clean and the sheets are not itchy. The blinds are perfect! It blocks the sun 99%. The gym is open too. Oh! And you borrow bikes and boards for free. Pretty awesome hotel.

Comment: This is a fantastic hotel! The location is beautiful! The walk to the beach is easy. The gym is open. The pool is open, and heated. It was a very cold day and we still hung out in our swimsuits beach side. The service was wonderful, they even let me borrow a phone charger because I forgot mine at home. The room had a mini fridge, which is a huge plus!

Comment: This is a super stunning gorgeous hotel with top top notch service. The views are stunning and a wonderful getaway. Everything from the pool and hot tub to the food, live music, or decor of the restaurant and lobby. Wow wow wow!Our room was facing the pool and probably the best location in the place. It had a balcony which made it even better. They even had free bikes to use and a path alongside the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Comment: What a beautiful location! I took my sons here for a day pass to the pool and it was really lovely!We spent a couple of hours and I liked the gal that helped with out lunch and drinks order. She was friendly and helpful!The music wasn’t too loud but it was nice to have some atmosphere!My only complaint: the restrooms are only one stall. There’s no changing areas. And the men’s bathroom toilet was running so violently the floor was flooded and my sons clothes got drenched when he went to use the restroom (I didn’t know this until it was too late and his clothes were wet).But, we would be back, if we’re in the area again!

Comment: I spent three nights at your resort and it was the worst experience I had at a hotel facility in my 40+ years of my adult life.1. I was given a room in an area so close to the bar and pool that the noise level was quite high and if I opened the balcony door to enjoy the sea breeze the noise at times was unbearable specially traveling with a 9 years old grandchild. No attempt was made as to change rooms etc. I was told it was all you had available.2. The screen door to the balcony was stuck, maintenance came but was unable to get it working citing broken parts. I was happy there were no bugs!!!3. I was traveling with a 12 1/2 years old 6 pound dog that has been diagnosed with lymphoma, probably our last trip together, I brought her bed and also a lockable carrier. on Sunday morning I requested that my room will be cleaned in the morning that I will leave the dog in the carrier so that the person cleaning could leave the door open and not worry about the dog. I was going to come around noon and put the dog in her bed for a more comfortable afternoon and night as she is used to. My room was not cleaned until 5:15pm needless to say I was really disappointed, not only because the dog had to stay in very confined space most of the day, but because it cut in activities my wife and I wanted to do with our granddaughter. On Monday I had the same request at about 8 am. The room was never cleaned that day.Although every person I talked to, from the counter agents to the manager I talked to Monday afternoon, was very polite and looked very helpful an concerned, at the end all was fake. When you expend over $1500.00 on a place for a three day stay, you expect better than NO SERVICE....

Comment: Fantastic experience at this resort! All the staff were extremely accommodating and very friendly. We loved everything from the ocean view balconies, to dinner at Chandlers.Cape Rey also comes with access to a private-ish beach area where they have umbrellas and towels for the guests.We loved our time there and would absolutely go back!
