What an amazing stay I had! I arrived greeted by two innkeepers, checked in seated on comfortable chairs and then was given all the information I needed for my stay. The Innkeepers were so warm and welcoming! They happily recommended places to go and see while I was there. The room was so comfortable and elegant, just like the pictures, I loved that there were numerous notes around the room, explains things about the room and how to use things like the tv, Keurig, etc. The Breakfast was delicious especially the scones and the blueberry muffins ! Everything felt luxurious with cloth napkins, tablecloths and the preset tables. The music was perfect for the dining atmosphere. Thank you for a wonderful time, I look forward to returning again!
We have stayed there twice, both times everything has been great. Only wish we would have stayed during better weather so we could experience the whole grounds for walks and kayaks ect... Breakfast there has been excellent both times. Staff has been exceptional. If your looking for a nice weekend getaway I would highly recommend it..
We had a very relaxing weekend stay! It is a very peaceful location but still close enough to several towns for whatever you need. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We chose the package to have breakfast delivered to our room, a picnic lunch, and a couples massage and we loved all of it. It was the perfect combination of fun and relaxation. The Grill House restaurant just down the road and Salt of the Earth in Fennville were great for dinner also!
The jewel box room should be called the shoe box room.It is smaller than any hotel room we have ever been in.I would compare it to an attic space. The ceiling is also on angle and low in many spots of the room so you have to watch that you don’t hit your head. When we arrived at the castle we were told that we would have to go to a separate house on the property to get our breakfast. The whole point of a Bed and Breakfast is not having to go outside, get in your car and leave the house your in but instead of our breakfast being in the same house we would have to go to a different one to get our food each morning. We had the option for our food to be brought to us but it was an extra 20 dollars for each day! The bathroom in the room doesn’t have a bath fan in it and the bathroom walls don’t go all the way up to the ceiling so there is no privacy when your using the bathroom. There is also stained glass windows right in front of the toilet so you can see when someone is in the bathroom sitting on the toilet. When your looking at pictures of rooms on their website it shows a fireplace in the jewel box room. There is no fireplace. Why is there a fireplace in the picture when you take the virtual tour of the room? Charging that much money for that small of a room was very disappointing. The TV in the room was also very tiny.
This was our second visit at this beautiful Bed and breakfast n would highly recommend it to anyone that is searching for a Awesome romantic getaway. The owners Ruth n Herb are amazing n the food is 4 ⭐ gourmet! The staff are out of this world friendly n so curtious! They really do love their job you can tell! Me and my girlfriend will be returning next year!
We normally stay at B and Bs near water. Excited to find out that the castle on the country has 2. It was a special weekend getaway. Enjoyed a room with a fireplace. The food was terrific and they were able to help accommodate my picky palate. Follow the recommendations for nearby restrictions, they are spot on.
I would first like to say what an absolute, wonderful experience, from beginning to end. Castle in the Country Bed and Breakfast exceeded our expectations. After reading other reviews, I felt like it would be a great choice. However, our experience was even better. We arrived at the castle and were very satisfied with a greeting from Ruth.I can not thank them enough for making this one of the best getaways ever. My fiancé and I decided to elope before the New Years, and have a private ceremony between the two of us. They made it to be such a relaxing, romantic, peaceful, and comfortable experience. It was a wonderful, intimate setting. Ruth did an amazing job coordinating, Cailyn did a wonderful job helping me get ready for my wedding, making sure I was flawless, Tom did a great job with the ceremony, and of course Meg was a fabulous photographer. I can’t wait to go back. Thank you all for such a fabulous time!☺️🥰
We have been coming here for years! We just celebrated our 20th anniversary at the Inn. The food and accommodations are always excellent! The staff and Innkeepers are very accommodating and friendly. If you are coming in the winter check out the igloo they have on the property. It was very romantic. ❤❤
My wife and I stayed here October 26 through the 28th of 2021.First I’ll start out with booking. It was very simple and they were very accommodating.Upon arrival we were greeted by the sweetest girl named Kaitlyn who has been there for two years. She was very informative of everything that was offered, and she even gave us tips on different places and wineries in the area.We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet room. Was beautiful, the bed was awesome, in the hot tub was amazing. We were served our amazing breakfast in our room both mornings. I was telling my wife that I would never order this at a restaurant, but because I’m not afraid to try different things, I would now do this! The trails are beautiful on the property. A quick 10 minute walk to the far end of the lake. We met the owners and they were very nice and sweet. Everybody that we met that work there was amazing. Looking forward to our next day. Andy and Andrea B.
We wanted to find a cute place to recharge after our wedding and I’m glad we selected Castle in the Country! It was our mini-moon (just two nights) as a getaway and I’m must say, this place surpassed all of our expectations.Even stay on a rainy day, the amenities and local wineries made up for it.If you are looking to disconnect, enjoy a wonderful breakfast and simply relax in a small town, there’s no better choice than this place!
Well there are definitely lots of things to do, unfortunately we didnt leave our room except to go downstairs and out side to smoke, but we had a blast. Sat by a fire, watched Michigan beat Ohio state, if we needed anything, we would text them and boom stuff is outside our door. The 2ppl we met are extremely nice. They have rooms in 2 separate buildings on the property, 1 building is the Victorian house right by the road and another building is what looked like to be nestled in some woods behind the house, paved drive. I would love to go back again, and it would be when Im working my normal 5days and not 6 just to enjoy some outside amenities.
This place is something from a fairytale! We went here on our honeymoon and I absolutely did not want to leave. From the breakfast in bed, to the grounds, or the many shops and cities all around. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you to all who made this trip so special
If I could give 0 stars I would. My boyfriend and I booked a vacation for our anniversary on February 17th so it was for the weekend right after. I had an email that we were confirmed. Then weeks later I had another email saying we were confirmed for a few weeks later closer to march. Someone else called to change their reservation and they changed ours instead. They didnt even try to fix it all they said was well you can still book for the weekend towards the end of February it was or you can book for the weekend before which we couldnt because we had booked this at least a month in advance and my boyfriend took out vacation time. They said we could rebook it in the future and use the picnic as a plus but why would I ever even want to come there now!? They should have fixed their mistake considering we had booked quite in advance and we ended up not going on vacation for our anniversary because it was too late at that point and everywhere else was booked so thanks for that. Save your money and go somewhere else.
We are here for our first anniversary, and I can’t imagine us going anywhere else. It is so peaceful, beautiful, clean and wonderful. Our service has been excellent, and our room is just lovely. We have enjoyed our breakfast each morning! I hate to leave. We walked the grounds, stopped by the lake and retreated back to our room for a cozy night. This is a beautiful bed & breakfast!
My partner and I had a wonderful time. The staff was super sweet, very personable, and the grounds were beautiful. What really has me raving was the breakfast. It was phenomenal. I was actually a bit hesitant as the options definitely took me outside of my comfort zone. The crepe gallete we had our first morning was something I wouldve never ordered on my own. It was SO delicious. Our breakfast the next morning, royal eggs with cheese, was even better. From the pastries to the breakfast potatoes, the balance of flavors and quality of ingredients were top notch. All in all, I highly recommend a visit. I know we will certainly be back!
We can not say enough about this B&B. You will not be disappointed with your stay. We stay as often as we can and when we plan a getaway for the weekend, this is where we go. Every single time. The inn keepers are amazing, attentive to needs, responsive to requests, and it’s obvious they want your stay to be as ideal as possible. We love the dinner we find at our door soon after checking in and breakfast in bed each morning. We opt for the 90 min massages with therapists that are personable and accommodating to our needs. The grounds have great trails, places for lunches by the lake and kayaks for a peaceful escape with nature. If you don’t want to leave your room, the jacuzzi tub, fireplaces, and multi head showers will not disappoint. Really, there’s no need to leave your room because you’ll find an escape from reality so fulfilling ❤️
This was our first B&B experience and definitely not the last. From checking in, to the rooms, to checking out was always beyond expectations. Even down to the little things like having a pathway shoveled out to get to a bench in the snow or having complimentary cookies (and other goodies). Will definitely be going back.
A beautiful, peaceful, and friendly place! Went away here to propose, and I couldnt have asked for better. The rooms are luxurious and cozy, the staff is friendly and very helpful. They set up a surprise lunch picnic in the gazebo- my girlfriend never saw it coming! They made the weekend perfect for us.
My wife and I stayed for our 10 yr anniversary. It was such a great trip. We stayed in the Camelot suite and it was amazing. The attention to detail was great and the staff was professional and courteous. Loved the in room breakfast each day. We will definitely We returning.
We can not say enough about our recent stay. My husband and I wanted a getaway to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Everything was perfect. Each and every detail at Castle in the Country did not go unnoticed. Our room was absolutely perfect and we loved the grounds. We could not of asked to go to a better place. I can not rave enough about our stay. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for everything.Mr and Mrs Edwards
It wasnt just great communication, friendly informative staff, the cleanest B&B we have ever seen....did I mention the amazing meals, beautiful grounds & rooms? There is something to be said for kindness. Every single person we encountered was wonderful & helpful. Right down to the vendors they work with for their weddings. Not many brides can say their wedding was perfect. We are so incredibly lucky to be able to only because of Ruth and her staff. I forgot the cake - delicious, the photographer - Megs love her & Tom! This is not wedding glow, it really is a wonderful experience. You would be wise to let Ruth handle your wedding so you can relax & enjoy every second. Ruth, we can not thank you and your wonderful team enough.
We were here to celebrate our anniversary. Found the overall ambiance of the rooms, the setting with scenic woods and a small lake a great place to relax and unwind. The service staff were very helpful and accommodating to our needs. The room was well laid out and was a great haven after each days activities. If you are in need of a place to get away and enjoy nature and center yourself, I would highly recommend the Castle in the Country.A great experience to enjoy more than once.
Amazing experience. Took my gf for a surprise romantic birthday weekend getaway and she absolutely loved it. The Romeo and Juliet room is adorable and she loved it. Very secluded and romantic. The breakfast was brought to our door each morning and the staff massage themselves sparse but available if we needed anything. Everybody was extremely helpful and friendly. The couples massage was also 👍👍. Highly recommend and will certainly take her there again sometime in the future.
Who needs to fly to some exotic, far away destination? We found a wonderful gem out in the beautiful Michigan countryside, not terribly far from the Lake Michigan shoreline. The friendly innkeepers immediately welcomed us and made us feel at home and comfortable. Our spacious Kingdom Suite balanced gorgeous, modern conveniences with ornate, vintage charm. Our stay was relaxing and the food was fantastic!
My husband and I have stayed two times. Once for our Honeymoon (2019) and again a year later for our 1 year (2020).We enjoyed our stay both times and will be back again. Our stay was in November but it was really sweet and lovely. The celebration package is wonderful.During covid, we were nervous to stay but the staff and managers did a great job of adapting to the restrictions and we felt safe. Highly recommend the Lancelot Room and the Camelot Suite.
We had such a fabulous experience here! Spencer is amazing and made sure everything was perfect for our stay! Our room, Lady Guinevere was pretty and cozy. We mentioned the shower didnt have good pressure and they changed the shower head the moment we left the room. The breakfasts were delicious. Way more than we normally eat for breakfast, but so tasty. We didnt need lunch any of the days we had their breakfast. The screened-in porch by the lake is really relaxing. The little lake is perfect for kayaking or paddle boating (both are there for your use). Its a quiet lake with only a few houses on it. We were the only ones on the lake when we went one afternoon. The mosquitos are fierce! Put on bug spray before you venture back into woods to get to the lake or take a walk. The grounds are lovely. If youre looking to get away and just relax, this place is perfect. Or if youre looking for some relaxation and some places to visit, this place is perfect. We spent our anniversary wine tasting, going to a cheese store, and getting pie at Cranes. Modales was our favorite winery. Careful at Virtue if you go back into the woods. I got a tick! We suggest Salt of the Earth for dinner. The Castle is also close enough to Saugatauk to spend the day there too. We have already raved about The Castle to our friends. This was a great find!
We very much enjoyed our stay with you. It was so relaxing. The scenary was stunning. We loved hicking to the lake and using the paddle boat. We found this too so relaxing. The recommended steak restaurant was so good. Loved the breakfasts but my husband would like a little more options. I didnt care for the pillows as they were very flat for me. I also wish I had brought my blanket. Im just picky that way. We often stay at Hilton properties and love their bedding. We would definitely recommend this place to others amd come back. Oh and absolutely LOVED the jacuzzi and the peaceful setting in the bathroom. We loved the Camelot suite!!
Everything from check in to check out was amazing. The staff checks in with you a day before to finalize your plans which was really great. We felt so welcomed and taken care of. Breakfast every morning was so tasty and perfectly portioned. During covid times i felt everything was clean and sanitized. We stayed in the King Arthur suite which had an almost floor to ceiling window that looked out over a pond and the lighted gazebo at night. It was so peaceful just to sit and have our breakfast looking out into nature. Bedding was comfy, maybe add another blanket or bring your own if you do the blanket struggle with your spouse, ha ha! We took a hike around the property and that was by far my favorite part, the terrain was mostly flat just had to watch out for some tree roots. It was so peaceful. The staffs recommendations for food in the area was spot on. I think it’s a great value for the money. 10/10 would come back again! We stayed here for our anniversary and the staff payed attention to that and helped us celebrate! Thank you so much for having such a beautiful, peaceful place to relax in!
In these uncertain times The Castle was the perfect spot for our almost local staycation Anniversary celebration. We loved The Camelot Suite especially the private patio area and enjoyed the wood burning fireplace each evening. The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and we enjoyed a leisurely hour on the paddleboat one afternoon.Ruth and staff made us feel very welcome and safe.Oh, did I mention the breakfasts...delicious.Thank you.
Stunning property, professional staff, experienced masseuses, great orientation to the stay. Room (Kingdom Suite) was well equipped, spacious, and exceeded our expectations. Much care was given for privacy, while still feeling very welcomed. Everything was clean and in great working condition. Highly recommended for couples. Be sure to sport the bug spray in the summer (provided onsite) - Michigan mosquitos are huge! Worth it, though, as the landscape warrants exploration.
Ruth and Herb have created a romantic getaway which provides a relaxing escape for any occasion from birthday celebration to anniversary - or simply time away to reconnect with each other and nature. The customer service was warm and friendly. The inn was clean and the attention to detail beyond measure- from the flowers hanging on the porch, the shelves of books, the Adirondack chairs near the lake, the well marked walking trails, and of course the delicious breakfasts. Herbs homemade bread was delectable, and strong hot coffee was readily available. Our picnic prepared by the inn which included a bottle of wine from a local winery was a lovely addition to our weekend. Thank you, Herb and Ruth, for giving us a much needed escape to Castle in the Country for a weekend of relaxation and romantic bliss.
Castle is the country was the perfect place for our mini moon getaway. It was so secluded and peaceful. The grounds were absolutely beautiful. I feel relaxed and refreshed after my weekend here with my new husband. And they took so many measures to keep everyone safe during covid. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast and will be back again!
The rooms were very clean and comfortable the breakfast was good and well served, the paddle boats and kayaks were a great experience, however we had a terrible situation on the paddle boat, a man had stated that the water area near his house was private property and he threatened our lives for being on his property, however there were no signs saying private property or no trespassing in the water. For people who are not from the area we should no what’s off limits, so we won’t get killed . Especially with being black.
We had the recharge that we needed at Castle in the Country. The staff was very helpful in suggestions for where to explore and we also spent most of our time at the castle because it is beautiful. If you want to get away from the city and enjoy kayaking, hiking and relaxation you can do it all right there. There are also wineries and cider mills nearby that you can enjoy. They accommodated my husbands gluten free allergy so well with all the bed and breakfast meals customized for him he truly appreciated that. Highly recommend relaxing at this beautiful B&B.
Initially, due to COVID-19 anxiety, we thought we were going to have a shut-in, super regulated stay. However, we understood that businesses have to adjust and give all precautions and new rules to their facility. On the up, we came with two other married couples, who are family. We thoroughly enjoyed our rooms and outside the premises. There was a beautiful area outside where we were able to relax, laugh, sit in a gazebo, and even play corn toss with only each other. Very appropriate for comfortable social distancing. We only ran into two other couples there, and everyone wore masks while inside the common areas. Ruth, the owner, and her assistant were altogether lovely. We would recommend a comfy getaway. Let me NOT forget about the delicious breakfast that was delivered to our room, prompt each morning. The presentation was everything we expected. Kudos to the cook.Out only suggestion would be to add mini-fridges to the suites. We so used to have one in every suite or bed and breakfast weve gone to so far. And also extend the Jet use time to at least Mid-night. We are still delighted and happy customers.
The Castle in the Country is an amazing experience that every couple should have. The innkeepers were very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable about the area, the room was beautifully furnished, the food was amazing, and the couples massage was mind-melting. And all of this takes place on beautifully maintained grounds with nature trails, floating docks, and screened in enclosures offering beautiful views
This was our first stay in 2021, as usual just like our visits over the last 6 years, it was perfect! Since finding Castle over 6 years ago we have never had anything but a perfect stay. Every visit, every time has been great. Ruth and Herb are the best hosts, the staff is always friendly and helpful, the rooms and grounds are absolutely gorgeous . We try to make it up at least twice a year (sometimes more if possible) and enjoy our stay every time. Thanks to Castle for a amazing 6 plus years of great memories and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Our room was very well decorated and cozy upon our arrival. My wife loved that the bathrobes were provided for our use. We definitely felt special. The fireplace adds a nice touch as well. The part that really blew us away was the service. Ruth and the staff really go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect and provide extra little amenities that you would never find in a hotel. Breakfast was exceptionally good and the staff does a great job waiting on you. We will definitely be back during the summer time where we can walk the trails and use the outdoor fireplace and kayaks.
My wife and I eloped here recently. The atmosphere and the scenery is perfect. We stayed in the Lancelot suite. It was very comfortable and the view was awesome. We found ourselves sitting and appreciating it more than expected. They took care of the wedding day and ceremony from A to Z. The bouquet my wife asked for is exactly what she received. Tom the officiant made us really comfortable. The photographer was super cool. The food was delicious. Everyone was breaking their necks to make this a great experience. Even after I broke a glass. Even the restaurant they set up forOur wedding dinner was crazy good. It was great!!!
This was our first experience together at a b&b and it was even better than we expected! We stayed in the sir Lancelot suite and it was beautiful. The shower and tub were both amazing and relaxing and the indoor fireplace was really romantic. The breakfast they provide was so amazing I could’ve stayed a whole week just to try everything. The grounds were very well kept and romantic. The staff was super helpful about things to do during the day in nearby towns as well. The couples massage was a very relaxing experience and the picnic basket we had was amazing. They truly made our anniversary memorable and more romantic than I could’ve ever imagined. Would definitely stay here again.
My wife and I stayed in the Camelot Suite at Castle in the Country for 2 nights in December. We could not have asked for a more relaxing and refreshing weekend. The suite was just fantastic. The king size bed, TV, and fireplace were great but the shining feature of the room was the bathroom. It was gigantic and included the largest tub weve seen, a fireplace and TV above the tub, and a 15ft tall waterfall shower. When we decided to venture outside of our room, we took a wall around the surrounding land on the groomed walking/running trails. And I also have to mention the complementary breakfast served each morning. A++ service and food quality. We are vegetarian and it wasnt a problem at all for the chef to change the meal to our liking. For dinners, there were plenty of options within a 20 minute drive. Our weekend at Castle and Country was perfect and we will definitely be going back one day.
My wife and I stayed at Castle in the Country for our 5 year wedding anniversary. I was trying to find a nice resort or hotel close to the neighboring wineries and this looked to be the best option. The price is a bit high compared to a regular hotel, but I was hoping the amenities made up for it - and they really did! The service was excellent from Ruth, the innkeeper, as well as all the other employees. We stayed 2 nights and enjoyed a small happy hour under their gazeebo, and there were carriage rides offered through the estate (extra reasonable fee). The rooms were really lovely - antique country feel. And the breakfast was fantastic. I loved that not everything was in one building and there were plenty of walking trails along with kayaks and a 2 person paddle boat you could take out on a small lake, which we did on our last day.Would definitely stay there again!
Beautiful property, our room was charming and very clean. Breakfast was great, we only stayed one night but there is a different menu each morning and it is customized to your preferences/allergies. Chocolate chip cookies, popcorn and other snacks freely available were a nice touch. We were there at the end of winter so there was less to do with the lake frozen and trails muddy in some parts but still enjoyed walking around the grounds.
The most phenomenal bed and breakfast experience! Staff was amazingly kind and courteous. The walk through the trail was beautiful. Paddle boating was so much fun. The 65 acres of scenery was beautiful. Gourmet breakfast was light and delicious! Fresh air and sence of peace. Castle in the Country was the best place to go to get away from the city and to be private and romantic with someone you love.
Stayed a few nights on our honeymoon. Really gorgeous place, loved the woods on the property. We were by far the youngest couple, and unfortunately folks werent really social in the evenings around the fireplace pit. Thats not really on the owners or anything though. Cool grill your own place to eat right down the road, nearest town is a little sketchy. Wonderful winery nearby too!
My husband and I stayed here for the 2nd time this past weekend. We got engaged on the grounds when we stayed here last fall, and decided to mark the one-year anniversary of our engagement (and 4-month anniversary of being married) by staying here again!Overall, we were very pleased with both our stays at Castle in the Country. Both times we opted to get couples massages and were incredibly relaxed after receiving them. Good ambiance in the room (music, lighting, smell, etc.) and friendly, knowledgeable masseuses. The breakfasts were also very tasty, although at check-in the woman asked about our dietary preferences and we stated no tomato, but there were tomatoes on our salads. Because they were halved, they were easy enough to eat around/pick off, so it wasnt a problem for us.Our room was also very nice. We stayed in the Sir Lancelot and, aside from the pilot light going out in the fireplace twice, it was a very modern, lovely room with a great view of the rolling hills and pond. Both times we couldnt get the fireplace turned on, Herb was very quick to fix it, so it wasnt the best of situations but also not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. We thoroughly enjoyed the Jacuzzi, robes, and how big and comfy the bed was.The grounds are just beautiful. My husband proposed to me by the lake, so we made sure to go back there this time around. Its so peaceful out by the water. Although it was too cold to take advantage of the kayaks (which we knew when we booked), it was perfect weather to lay on the chaise lounges in the gazebo/boat house and just enjoy the scenery.Overall, we had such a good stay the first time that we came back a second time - no better compliment than that!
We had a wonderful time at Castle in the Country! My wife and I have never stayed in a bed and breakfast before, so we were not sure what to expect, but it was just lovely. We stayed in the Sir Lancelot Suite, which has a beautiful view of the grounds and pond, and a super comfortable bed. All of the suites are really unique, so you can find one that suits you. The most amazing part about this bed and breakfast was the breakfast! They were unbelievable! The chocolate cherry scone is one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life! The innkeepers, were just wonderful and very helpful. Ruth provided us with information and a map of activities and recommendations for wineries/restaurants and anything you could do in the surrounding area. We had a wonderful time at Castle in the Country, and hope we get the chance to go back soon!
Perfect place for a romantic getaway. Everything about this place is delightful. The staff and the innkeeper are extremely helpful and accommodating. Each room has its own theme and is decorated beautifully. It’s located on 65 acres of forestry which makes it perfect for taking hikes to the nearby lakes and ponds. Everything we ate was made from scratch and was so delicious. Each amenity was thoughtful and planned. This place is extremely detailed. I’m so impressed with the service and the staff’s knowledge of the area. They gave us great recommendations for dinner, day trips, and fun things to do. We loved having hot cocoa in the twinkle light gazebo on the pond and walking the grounds. We are so happy we stayed here and we will definitely come back. We loved staying at the castle! Would recommend!
We had a lovely two-night getaway in January before the arrival of baby #2! We loved our room (Golden Tower) - it was tasteful and comfortable and very charming. Everything on the grounds was very beautiful, from the house itself to the walking trails. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and definitely hope to come again in the next few years!
I came here with my husband for our honeymoon, and I wish I could give this lovely B&B more stars. The hosts are wonderful, the food is absolutely delicious, the grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are cozy. The chef kindly accommodated our dietary restrictions, and served incredible food. Our only regret is not staying another night, we couldnt have chosen a better slot to celebrate our honeymoon.
Im a bit late to writing this but me and my wife stayed here the night of our wedding and a couple nights to follow. All I gotta say is WOW! This place is beautiful and the rooms are great. We were able to walk the grounds and enjoy nature and be very romantic. The staff is what set it off, they are the nicest people and do everything to make sure your happy. There food was amazing, her husband ( the lady who runs it) really knows how to cook. Thank you castle, yall know what youre doing
The service was outstanding, and the food was so delicious! They have coffee, tea, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and popcorn available 24/7. They really make your stay feel luxurious! We got to have breakfast next to a big window overlooking the pond and the breakfast was nicely displayed and tasted amazing! Our massage was wonderful, and our breakfast in bed was so fancy and scrumptious! I can’t say enough good things about this place! As we terversed the castles property and kayaked the lake it was as if we were living out a fair tail due to how beautiful the whole place is.
If you’re looking for a beautiful and quiet getaway, this is the place to be. The Innkeepers were incredibly helpful but gave us all of the privacy one could ask for. The walking trails, scenery, and all of the property are very well maintained and provided a scenic, romantic ambience for the trip. Will definitely be coming back!
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at this cozy bed and breakfast. We enjoyed the trails, complimentary kayaks and a warm fire under a gazebo. Sarah was friendly, accommodating and made sure we had a delicious breakfast before heading back home. Certainly recommend staying at Castle in the Country.
Beautiful place! Clean! Quiet! Nicely decorated! Comfy bed (weve been to many Bed and Breakfast, finally one with a super comfortable bed!)! Gourmet breakfasts! Very friendly staff! This is by far one of the nicest Bed and Breakfasts weve ever been too! We will definitely be back! Beautifully done! A+!
My fiance and I had a great little getaway here. We stayed during the middle of the week and the only other couple there (staying next to our room) at that time had a huge fight the first night we were there. However, the owner, without any hesitation, offered to upgrade us to a nicer suite the following day. The breakfast is phenomenal as well. Definitely will be back!
My husband and I stayed in the Castle and had such a relaxing and amazing weekend. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the area and was so helpful in sharing with us good area restaurant options and activities to do. And breakfast was delicious! We have an annoying amount of food allergies, but Herb and Ruth were so accommodating and gracious. The room was beautiful as well as the grounds. We highly recommend it and hope to return in the future!
This was our second visit to the beautiful Castle in the Country, and it certainly will not be our last! The gorgeous facilities and the woods in which they are located make it the perfect place for us to stay to enjoy hiking, biking and paddle boating, as well as some much-needed relaxation. One of my best memories was sitting in the gorgeous gazebo, viewing the surroundings, while crocheting and reading! There were great places and restaurants nearby to visit during our trip, too. We have stayed in the Camelot suite for both visits because we love the privacy. The staff is so very helpful, while still providing you with the privacy that you need. I cant say enough about the great breakfasts and appetizers we enjoyed during our visit. Thank you, Ruth, Herb, Brian and staff! You are all amazing! Hope to see you all again soon!
My wife and I were fortunate enough to come across this gem. We took a few hour drive to unwind, and couldnt have been more pleased. We spent two nights with Ruth and her professional and accommodating staff. The rooms are the perfect combination of modern and old world charm. Breakfast is a gourmet meal created with local ingredients served overlooking a beautiful pond. One morning we were treated to observing a doe and her fawn playing as well as a sand crane and her baby frolicking about the pond. We also were able to, with Ruths guidance, enjoy a few local restaurants and breweries. Holland was a short drive away, and a beautiful town to spend the day in. Five minutes from your front door at the castle us a place called the Grill House where you can dine from their menu or pick your own meat and, with the assistance of a grill master, prepare your own main course. If youre looking to relax or provide a romantic experience, this place is your destination. We will definitely be heading back soon.
My husband and I enjoyed celebrating our anniversary at Castle in the Country. The room was very nice; we liked the jet tub. Breakfast was delicious - especially loved the pumpkin pancakes. Innkeepers were very friendly and gave great advice where to go wine/cider tasting and shopping. We would stay here again but would not purchase the WINERY TASTING ROOM GETAWAY - $189 plus tax did not seem like a very good value for a $60 dinner voucher, $15 bottle of wine, 2 wine glasses and some snacks to take with us on our tasting travels. I think we got extra tasting at Fenn Valley with our visit but still cant see how this adds up to almost $200.
My husband surprised me for our Anniversary and we stayed 2 nights at Castle in the Country. It was a beautiful B&B, the food was delightful, the staff was more than accommodating and friendly, and we will absolutely be back. This was by far one of the most relaxing atmospheres we have been surrounded by yet. We highly recommend staying if your looking for a laid back type of vacation.
I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in hopes that you would refund my money for a gift that my parents dont feel comfortable using, and you did not even respond to the Better Business Bureau. Very disappointing that this is how you handle your customers.
Our room at the Castle in the Country was just what the doctor ordered! We were in need of a quiet weekend, and thats exactly what we got. We were able to sit in our room in front of our fireplace, read, nap, and snack on cookies, tea and coffee if the mood hit us. The owners and staff were amazing,...professional, helpful, friendly, with their main aim being to please. They succeeded! Breakfast was delicious the two days we stayed. Dinners were a beautiful drive into a neighboring town with the fields covered in snow. Thank you so much for being there for us!
Beautiful property, wonderful accommodations, delicious breakfasts, unique and romantic rooms, perfect location, very kind and welcoming owners, beautiful scenery for wedding. I gave four stars because I asked ahead of time if I would be able to take pictures with my family after my wedding ceremony, and I was told yes. However, when the day actually came, they pushed my family out almost immediately following the ceremony. My family brought professional cameras, and the owner would not allow them to take any photos. Then the owner who took photos of my husband and me did a less than great job. The pictures were off-centered, lacked originality, cut off body parts, so on, so forth. The owner should have let my family take photos. They would have come out much better. I loves her as an inn keeper and as a person, but photography is not in her strengths. I cries when I saw my wedding photos for the first time, and it wasnt because I was happy. Believe me, I would return to Castle in the Country again in the future, and if there hadnt been so many issues regarding photos, I would have given 5 stars.
Castle in the Country thought of everything! We very much enjoyed our stay. Ruth was very welcoming and professional. The room was very clean. The whirlpool tub was wonderful!! We had a little trouble with the lock on the paddle boat and kayaks, but were still able to take the boat out for a spin. We will definitely return!
Castle in the Country was our choice for our wedding and we could not have been happier with our pick. Ruth & Herb made our special day a day we will never forget and catered to our every need. They have a ton of experience in hosting these types of events so they were able to blend many of their own experiences with our ideas and delivered a picture perfect event. We rented out all 10 rooms and invited our families and closest friends and had an unforgettable weekend with all their glamour we wanted and none of the stress. All of our needs were tended to and everyone had their own private space while being able to enjoy the charm of small town Michigan. If youre looking for a weekend getaway or a place to celebrate your wedding or other special occasion, Castle in the Country comes highly recommended by us.
We wanted our wedding to be small and Castle in the Country provided us with that and exceeded our expectations. We did the elopement package and what a wonderful stress free idea this was! Ruth and Melina arrange everything for us and made our special day so amazing and beautiful. We were blown away on how nice and attentive they are to details. The property was amazing, exactly what we wanted. We wanted quiet romantic getaway and we did not want to leave! The food, WOW! Our favorite, so fresh and made to order. The rooms were so beautiful and if quiet and relaxation is what you need, this is the place. A definite yes for those couples wanted to get away for a weekend or more. We were satisfied with the Innkeepers and everyone involved in our special day.The photographer they suggested for us, Owen has done an amazing job with our pictures thus far.We will definitely be coming back for our 1 year anniversary.Thank you for the hospitality.
The property was beautiful. Every want/need was taken care of. Our meals were unique and DELICIOUS. The Innkeepers and staff were attentive and more than helpful when suggesting nearby activities and restaurants, and supplying us quickly with anything we needed to make this the best couples get away it could have possibly been. We didnt want to leave!
My wife and I have stayed at several bed & breakfasts but the Castle in the Country stands out! Ruth paid special attention to us to make sure we had everything we needed. Herb cooked a really delicious breakfast. Loved the views of pond and the trails through the woods. Will come back in the warm months to take advantage of the kayaks! We dont repeat many B & Bs but this is one of them!
Perfect Christmas gift for my husband. A very special weekend getaway. The Castle and Castle Keep are beautiful and unique. Room was comfortable, cute, and not old fashioned. Loved the real fireplace! Loved the jetted tub. Breakfast was delicious! Herb is a great chef! The property is AMAZING. Next time well do an easy run or bring our cross country skis. Want to come back and kayak, too. Great dinners at Grill House and Salt of the Earth. Well definitely go back to both restaurants. Great couples massage at the Castle Keep. Cant recommend Castle in the Country highly enough!
The staff at the Castle made our long weekend mini-vacation all the more memorable. We were well taken care of in all of the usual amenities found at a B&B: Comfortable room; gourmet food; clean, well-cared for surroundings; excellent service; along with a really well-restored Victorian mansion. However, the thing which stood out as the single-most plus were the local restaurants recommended to us by our host, Liz. Not being from the area, we had no idea where to have lunch and dinner. She recommended three superb local restaurants which helped make our weekend getaway more fun and memorable. Sure, we could have gone on our cell phones and found a place to eat with which we were familiar. But, why go all the way to a weekend getaway and eat the same food you can eat when youre home? We enjoyed local, fresh fare and enjoyed it immensely. The Castle staff were professional, courteous, and attended to our every need. Thank you, Herb, Ruth, and Liz!
We really loved our stay here. The grounds were beautiful and immaculate. The room was elegant and clean. We felt right at home and so much attention was placed to detail. Breakfast was delicious. We also loved leisurely riding the paddleboat on the pond. We will definitely be back!
When I write a review, I typically like to comment on hits and misses, but there were literally no misses during our stay at Castle in the Country. My husband and I stayed here for three nights as part of our honeymoon. We arrived earlier than we had previously arranged with Ruth (one of the innkeepers), and we had forgotten to call to let her know, but it was no problem at all. We were welcomed and taken care of right away. Ruth made several recommendations for restaurants, shopping, and other activities. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet Suite at the Castle Keep, and we loved it. It was so romantic. The bed was so comfortable I didnt want to get out of it for breakfast. The food prepared here was outstanding. Im pretty sure the food was prepared by Ruths husband Herb, and he did a fantastic job. We had breakfast at the inn three days and a picnic lunch that was part of our Royal Treatment Package, which I highly recommend getting. Its so worth it! The picnic lunch was fabulous - we couldnt finish it, and my husband is a big eater. The Royal Treatment Package also included a couples massage (and much more) but the massages are so worth mentioning in the review. They were very relaxing. Wed totally go back to the therapists if we lived in the area.On the grounds we were able to go hiking and use the kayaks and paddle boat. There were beautiful swans on the pond and a family of geese. We saw turtles, several birds, and a mother doe and her two fawns. The grounds were gorgeous and we loved being in nature. It was therapeutic just being in the woods on the grounds. If you leave the area, my husband and I highly recommend heading to Salt of the Earth for dinner then driving a little west to the beach to watch the sunset. Its a bit of a drive but totally worth it. It was so peaceful and beautiful, and the food at Salt of the Earth was excellent. Were still talking about it! Its also worth it to drive to downtown Holland and check out the shopping and breweries there.A final note - the innkeepers and their staff truly made our honeymoon special and memorable. From the gift for us in our room, to the romantic setting - from the pampering, to the cookies in the cookie jar - we just cant say enough good things about this place. We cant wait to come back for our anniversary. Thank you to Ruth, Herb, and all of the staff.Anna and James
My wife and I stayed here after our wedding day. It was exactly what we needed after the crazy day. The rooms were lovely and large. Everything had a very at home feel. The staff at the castle are all so polite and make sure to accommodate your every need. Breakfast every morning was delicious, hot and ready to be severed. We did the picnic basket and took a 5 hour lunch by the lake. That is a must into I stay at the Castle in the Country! The lake is beautiful and the trails were so peaceful. We cannot wait to return for our next visit!
My boyfriend and I stayed in the King Arthur room for a couple of nights. Our experience was nothing but wonderful. The room was absolutely beautiful with a breathtaking view overlooking the frozen pond/lake, gazebo, and wooded area. The bed was comfy and the sheets felt amazing against your skin. After sleeping on their sheets, I am on the hunt to find sheets just as soft! The room was spacious, warm, welcoming, clean and well-prepared. Both the fireplace and giant tub were some of my favorites! The gourmet breakfasts were divine and never short of tasteful. The inn keepers were approachable, sweet, and truly took the time to get to know you and hear about your stay! They were easily accessible if you needed them. The Castle is nearby several towns, which is nice as well. My boyfriend and I checked out Salt of the Earth in Fennville (our new favorite restaurant), Butchs in Holland along with all their unique stores, and a comedy show and breweries in Grand Rapids. There was definitely plenty to do! We hope to return, perhaps in the summer next time for a different experience! The Castle in the Country is a must experience!
We had such a wonderful experience here! The service was exceptional and went above our expectations. We did the elopement package and they did such a wonderful job arranging all the details of the wedding so we could have a stress free marriage. The breakfast served here is incredible and they will go out of their way to accommodate any diet. We will definitively be coming back for our anniversary!
A very quiet and peaceful B&B, my wife enjoyed it very much. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that we extended our stay. The King Arthur room was roomy and comfortable with a spectacular view through a large picture window. We also enjoyed a few deep soakings in the large bathtub. During the days we toured the areas wineries...a relaxing anniversary weekend. The owners are quite friendly and kind as well. I would recommend this B&B, from the well done rooms to the walks around the property to the delightful owners. To see more pictures, please search for _vartsana_ on Instagram.
Loved the grounds, the staff, and the breakfast. The rooms were beautiful (romeo and juliet), loved the fireplace, jacuzzi, and lighting. Very quiet and peaceful all around. Loved talking walks through the wooded trails. Breakfast was relaxing and delicious. I really appreciated how the staff led so well and didnt make us guess where to go, or what to do. Cookies and milk, and snacks were a great touch. We also loved the lights outside and the fireplace on the patio. Truly an experience, and set the tone for our peaceful weekend away from our 4 young boys! Loved it and Im already recommending this place to friends!
This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast, we can’t say enough about how great Ruth and her staff are. The Castle in the Country is beautiful, the breakfasts are delicious, the beds are sooo comfortable. From the fresh baked cookies, coffee, trail mix and help yourself to microwave popcorn available all the time, they really think of all the little extra things to make your stay awesome. We did the Elopement Package and couldn’t be happier, a worry free away to get married. With all the extras to make it even more special. Thank you so very much for making our stay and wedding wonderful! We will be back😁
The chocolate chip scones for breakfast were mouth watering delicious and I could have eaten many more. The fresh squeezed orange juice was a treat. Each morning you experience a new array of breakfast foods. Someone made chocolate chip cookies one day and they were a wonderful treat both mid-day and for dessert in the evening. Each room having a different them makes Castle in the Country unique and a place to stay at again and again. The owners are fantastic and the couple managing are friendly and enthusiastic.
We came here to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary and wanted to go away and be a little pampered. This beautiful home was everything we wanted. The peace, quiet and pampered we wanted. We opted for the Royal Treatment Package (of course because we wanted to experience luxury at its finest.) We were to receive a lovely gift for staying at the grounds, breakfast in bed, couples massage for one hour and a lovely picnic basket filled with goodies. This was very exciting for us and simply could not wait for the pampering to begin! Our room was the Golden Tower and was just beautiful. A sweet little spot just for the two of us to reconnect and enjoy one other, after 11 years, 3 kids, 3 pets and work. We were able to go out and have a great dinner, watch the sunset and just look at the beautiful grounds to witness the amazing things God created. The breakfast that was made for the guest the next day was completely amazing. The food so fresh and served on beautiful dishes and linen. Takes the experience to the next level of feeling like royalty. We then had our couples massage that was out of this world, relaxing and luxurious. After our wonderful one hour massage with skillful hands we received our picnic basket filled with goodies that we were able to take around the enormous 65 acre land. The wine was delicious and the spread of cheese, meats, fruit and veggies was amazing under the twinkling lights of the gazebo. The next day breakfast again, was heaven on earth. It doesnt get any better then what is produced in that kitchen. After breakfast we walked the trail to the lake just to again admire Gods wonderful creation and simply loved every minute we had here.We recommend anyone and everyone to stay at this beautiful place with amazing staff. There was a saying that the Castle Keep building that holds very true, Enter as Strangers, Leave as Friends
Ruth and her staff could not be any more welcoming and accommodating. We were greeted with a smile and a through explanation of the Inn and details of our visit. Every detail of our room was just as expected and perfect, from the great view through the huge window to the relaxing whirlpool tub.
Great hospitality! This was the perfect getaway for us. We came from Chicago and charming bed and breakfast was just what we needed!!! The property is gorgeous, the staff is wonderful, and the hospitality is perfect. I highly recommend this to any couple seeking a romantic getaway!
My husbands and my ideal vacation is to get away from normal life and routine and do nothing, no agenda or busy plans...So this was the perfect escape and super relaxed. Very quiet and calm atmosphere, loved getting away from the city and hearing the birds and being surrounded by nature...did not see many other people around, which was nice, but the ones we did see were friendly. :) We loved our suite and the hot tub and lounging area. The bed was very comfortable, slept great! We sat outside and read a book together for the majority of the time, there are some perfect spots for reading (in the two chairs overlooking the pond, and the dock at the lake)....Went out on the paddleboat and enjoyed the little hike through the woods. Breakfast was wonderful, the Red Lobster biscuits were amazing!! A nice plus was the coffee/tea bars in each building which we could access whenever (my husband especially like this). I would definitely go again....The only downside is the cost...fairly pricey for our budget, but we thought it was worth it for our anniversary weekend!
If you are looking for an intimate wedding atmosphere this is it. Our wedding turned out absolutely perfect. Very beautiful. Rooms and food was wonderful too. The owner Ruth was great to work with. She puts together everything and makes it go so smooth. We will definitely be back to stay for our anniversary. Everything was just so perfect!! What an amazing Bed & Breakfast.
We celebrated our one year anniversary at the castle (we were married at the castle on Valentine’s Day last year) and I couldn’t have been happier. We stayed in the lady gweneviere and it was lovely. We also enjoyed our cake and the delicious breakfasts. I can’t say enough positive and wonderful things about the castle- I highly recommend this bed and breakfast.
Right from the beginning it was a magical experience. The landscape and the facility are breath-taking and the staffs hospitality is off the charts amazing! We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet Suite and it was almost tear worthy on how clean and beautiful it was. The relaxing Jacuzzi tub and ultimate comfy bed helped us unwind from the craziness of our daily routine. In the morning an gourmet 2 course breakfast was prepared with a side of fresh fruit. Going for a walk down to the dock after breakfast and looking over the water with the morning mist still linger as the sun climbs in the sky was the perfect place for the proposal! At night there is hanging lights by the gazebo where we danced under the stars; which is a must do for any romantics out there. All the beverages tea, coffee, and hot coca was absolutely delicious and the added personal touches like the home made chocolate chip cookies made us feel special and unplug from the world. 10 out of 10 on our score, we will tell everyone to come and stay here. The best decision we had to begin our lives together. Thank you all at Castle in the Country for making this trip a memorable experience.
The accommodations were very nice, but it is the people who make this place special. Ruth is the epitome of customer service. She called ahead of the vacation to schedule our activities and reviewed them with us when we arrived. Her husband cooks everything home made. The food was fresh and tasty. We will be back to celebrate a future anniversary.
This is a pleasant if geographically challenged place to stay relative to a wide selection of activities and restaurants nearer Lake Michigan. However, while nice, the room we stayed in did not feel like a $350 room. the bath was tight, the shower tiny and sink small. That is to be expected in an old historic house, however, considering the above the price just seemed too high and would prevent me from returning. In its favor is breakfast that measured up to any high end restaurant
It was a beautiful stay at the Castle in the Country - we spent a lot of time relaxing and enjoying the grounds - everything is beautiful and well maintained, Ruth is absolutely amazing, friendly, and helpful to her guests - the breakfasts were better than any hotel and B&B weve stayed at before. A true retreat on all levels! Travelling to nearby towns, cities, and attractions gave us many options for dining, wine/beer tasting, shopping, entertainment, relaxing, and enjoying all things our beautiful state has to offer in nature! We will definitely be back to the Castle in the Country!
Ruth did such a wonderful job planning our weekend getaway for our one year anniversary. The food was phenomenal, the grounds are absolutely beautiful and she has rooms to accommodate a variety of preferences. We were pampered all weekend and will never forget this trip. Highly recommend and worth every penny.
Brian was very accommodating. I would say 4.5 out of 5 overall. Everything was clean and nice. The high thread count sheets were a plus, and the camelot room being on the third floor, went undisturbed by other guests. Breakfast could be improved, maybe a quiche instead of pancakes or whipped butter to accompany the scones. But overall i liked it and my wife and I really enjoyed our one night stay. PS the recommendation for Salt of the Earth restaurant, was excellent. Food had unique flavorings/pairings that i hadnt before sampled. Thanks Brian! I wouldnt mind coming back in the spring :)
For the last several years, Castle in the country has been our favorite getaway place to celebrate our anniversary. The owners pay meticulous attention to detail where it matters. The comfortable rooms, delicious breakfasts, friendliness of staff and gorgeous setting in the Michigan countryside helps the stress to fall off. Highly recommend!
This was by far one of our favorite B&B experiences! The minute we drove up the drive we began to relax. The person who checked us in had excellent suggestions for what to do during our stay. We stayed in Lady Guinevere and enjoyed the unique decor--especially the room with the Jacuzzi! We grabbed a delicious cookie on our way before walking one of the pathways, then sat in the gazebo, soaking in Nature around us. In the morning, we headed off in the kayaks, just after the fog rolled off the little lake. It was gorgeous! We spied on 2 sand hill cranes, and made it around the lake just in time for walking up to breakfast! Our hostess was completely gracious, and the food was perfect! A yummy scone, OJ, coffee, an egg dish, sausage, and fruit. Wow! We did LOVE our stay there!!
We stayed in the Camelot suite. The property and room were beautiful. It was a great place to stay in terms of the facilities. Breakfast was good each morning. The lake was clean and quiet and made for a nice afternoon of casual kayaking. However, I was disappointed in the lack of options and flexibility for the price that I paid. I booked an additional package that included a couples Chocolate Bliss Massage. First, Im not sure why they named it this because chocolate is not involved at all. More importantly, there was no flexibility to schedule a massage time. I was told 10am-11am on one given day was the only time I could get the massage. There was only one other couple staying at the resort with us, so even though they contract hire massage therapists, I would think they could provide at least a little flexibility. I also asked what the cost of having a picnic basket put together for us to take out one day would be and was told they only did that for one particular package. I just paid $1,200 to book two nights and a massage and asking to pay a little extra for a picnic basket wasnt an accommodation they could step up for? I booked the trip to propose so I asked that the welcome gift of wine and chocolates not be delivered until our 2nd night and asked that they be left later in the evening after I knew we would be gone from the room for the proposal. They could only drop it off shortly after 6pm, so when we had to stop back in the room between dinner and the proposal the gift was already waiting. Lastly, and incredibly disappointing, was that I paid a good amount of money for a package that included a Secluded space indoor or outdoor decorated and reserved specifically for your engagement. I spoke with them in advance about proposing in the evening at the screen house by the lake. I expected it to be nicely decorated. Taylor, whom I spoke with at booking, said theyd be sure the screen house would be lit up and look nice when we arrived. Imagine my disappointment to walk down the evening ready to propose to see a typical screen house you might find in the woods at any campground NOT decorated, NOT lit up, and didnt even have lights! Luckily, sitting on the dock itself and watching the sunset was quite a nice view and the proposal went great anyways, despite being let down by the resort. Its really a shame. They have everything there to make it an over the top romantic getaway, but fall short on the amazing service and ability to customize your romantic getaway as the website describes. Especially to pay for a proposal package and not even have them come through on the most critical part of it. Again, the place is absolutely beautiful but I will not be back. I paid a premium price, for average service.
We stayed in the Sir Lancelot room. It had such a beautiful view and the room was perfect, just like the pictures! It was really enjoyable to walk through the woods and take the paddle boat on the lake. Breakfast was delicious both day that we stayed. It is a quiet and romantic atmosphere. We loved it!
We will definitely be back as this was a much needed break from our everyday life. The small towns are like walking through a hallmark movie. The property and rooms are beautiful as well as comforting like were in our own home. Beds and pillows are amazing which you rarely see when leaving home in my opinion. Everything was wonderful and we had a fantastic time. Staff was so kind and helpful and you can tell they truly care.
My husband and I stayed in the Camelot room. The whirlpool and shower are heavenly. The food is scrumptious, the grounds are lovely (walking around is a pleasure) and Ruth made sure we were satisfied with everything. Would recommend this place for anyone who wants to get away from it all.
Me and my wife get there and noticed our room is at 75° I call talk to Ruth and she told me to open my window I just cant believe for how much I paid to stay in the King Arthur room that the air wasnt even on for us when We got there knowing it was going to be 75° weekend The first day was nice because I turned the air on but the second day they took the thermostat off of the wall and turned the air off ! what is 68° troublesome I dont think so on a 75° day I dont think so I like to sleep comfortable and be comfortable so the place too expensive to not be comfortable. Had a great time dont get me wrong perfect weekend everything went great except for the air the breakfast was great ! The views were nice really nice I loved it the place is really reallly nice very beautifully grounds
We enjoyed staying away from the hustle and bustle at the Castles rural setting. The accommodations (King Arthur Room), staff and food were excellent! We enjoyed taking walks through the propertys wooded trails down to the ponds. During the day we enjoyed a couples massage, nearby wineries, Holland, Saugatuck and South Haven. Dinner at Salt of the Earth was great too! We expect to come back for another celebration.
This is my second time staying here. The first time was 5 days in the beautiful King Arthur suite for our honeymoon. We are staying in the spacious Camelot suite this time. The breakfast is amazing! The service is outstanding! The rooms are so cozy and absolutely gorgeous with many amenities! I LOVE staying here! We are already talking about coming back for future vacations!
In the Golden Tower, it was difficult to regulate a comfortable temperature, and the heaters fan was noisy and constant, making it difficult to hear the TV, and sleep. An added bonus to any room would be a full length mirror. Other than that, the place is beautiful and cozy, the breakfast is phenomenal, and the innkeepers so kind and friendly. They really care that you enjoy your stay. This was our 2nd stay and would definitely go back!
We stayed at The Castle in the Country July 13-16 and we could have stayed another week we enjoyed it so much... so many good things about this place... the staff were all great - Ruth is the owner and is very welcoming and engaging; Taylor is assistant inn keeper and is very attentive and accommodating... Ruths husband prepared the breakfasts each morning and they are superb! We stayed in one of the smaller rooms in the main building - The Jewel Box. Its small but has a very comfortable bed and nice furnishings. The main floor of the house has a common area stocked with soft drinks, lite snacks and way-to-good homemade chocolate chip cookies! We booked two different room add-ons while we were there... a couples massage and a wine tasting tour. The couples massage is done on site in a dedicated massage room and our massage therapists were great! The wine tasting tour included a packed picnic lunch, local bottle of wine, two wine glasses to keep, and a $60 voucher for dinner at a local restaurant. Ruth met with us to determine our preferred wine likes... she then recommended wineries that she thought would be a good match and helped map out our visits for the day... it was perfect... and the dinner that evening at Salt of the Earth was amazing! We enjoyed the property the castle sits on - lots of areas to meander around through the woods, or sit in the screened in gazebo and just chill... they also have a private lake with free use of kayaks and a paddle boat which was a lot of fun...Another great thing about The Castle in the Country is their location... there is so much to do and see in a 30 minute circle around them... wineries abound; breweries in Kalamazoo; the beach at Michigan Lake in Saugatuck... we got to all of those and would have loved to spend a few more days seeing even more... there are also a lot of great restaurants in just a few minutes drive from them - Salt of the Earth, Redtail 412, The Grill House were the three best we had while there... we also ate lunch at Bells Brewery one afternoon which was also very good with a great tour of the brewery. We travel a lot and can guarantee if we make it back up to Allegan we will stay at Castle in the Country again! Thank you for putting so much thought and attention to details that make your B&B one of the best we have stayed in!
Amazing, cozy stay. A much needed respite from the cold and snowy weather outside! Im quite particular about accommodation and Ruths home ticked all my boxes. I will definitely be back if I ever have to be in the area again. Tip - I was meant to work in Kalamazoo during the week, Castle in the Country is only a 20 min drive away and well worth it if youre looking for something nicer than whats available in the city.
My wife and I went here for a get away weekend. This place did not disappoint. The innkeepers were extremely helpful and courtous. Our room was incredible with a jazzuci tub and wood burning fireplace. The food was decent, lacked some flavor, but was overall tasty. The grounds are beautiful and worth walking. The only down side is you are in the middle of nowhere, so be prepared to drive to do anything.
Me and my husband were celebrating our 2nd anniversary. It was our first time at a B&B .and it exceeded my expectation by far. The room was awesome! The staff was very nice and helpful. We stayed for two nights and breakfast was included which was really good. We definitely will be back.
Rip off. Staff are disrespectful and dishonest. Rooms are not very clean and amenities are lacking. It is outdated could not watch any streaming due to poor wifi and they do not even have digital cable or on-demand just outdated dvd players -who even uses dvd anymore. Not very comfortable. Overall would not recommend at all. There are other B&Bs around for better rate and way better service. Do Not stay you will regret it!!
Very intimate setting with peaceful grounds. This truly is a gem in southwest Michigan. Close to dining, shopping, exploring, vineyards & craft beer, hiking, biking or just watching the birds. Your day will start with a sumptuous breakfast in a decadent dining room overlooking a pond and gentle rolling countryside. How you fill your day is up to you with so many choices. You end the day in a comfortable room, a soak in your private spa, maybe a yummy cookie from the kitchen. I have no suggestions Ruth & Herb have thought of everything, such a wonderful B&B. My husband and I hope to visit again.
We had the intimate wedding of our dreams at Castle in the Country. Ruth, Herb and their team did a wonderful job of ensuring our wedding was everything we wanted it to be. It was very difficult to find a location that embraces intimate weddings like they do. If you are looking for a beautiful scenic place to have your intimate wedding then this is the place for you. Their attention to detail was superb in all they do. My husband and I are looking forward to going back for years to come.
One of the best places to be whether you are on honeymoon, family trip or even just a weekend getaway. Very nice rooms with all the amenities and large Whirlpool tubs in almost every room. Staff makes you feel special at every step of the way. They have delicious breakfast and also consider your special requests for the same. Surrounding is amazing with lots of natural beauty.
My wife and I drove from Minnesota to spend 2 days at the Castle in the Country Bed and Breakfast. It was a long drive, but totally worth it. First off all the rooms were exactly as shown on the website and were just as beautiful. The bed was comfortable along with the bedding being very soft. My suite included a whirlpool that came with complimentary bath beads and not to mention they had soft water(If you never had soft water it is very nice, it makes your skin feel really clean and soft; hotels have hard water and it always irritates my skin after a shower). So I though that was another great touch. With your stay they give you breakfast between 8AM and 10 AM at what ever time you choose. When you go down to get your breakfast there are serval tables but one is just set up waiting for you to eat at. It was really inviting and felt as though you were just visiting family and they were waiting for you to come down. The food was also very delicious and served in a very elegant manner, with great presentation and amazing flavor. While you are down to eating breakfast someone sneaks up to your room and puts it back in order without you knowing, so when youre done with your food and go back to your room everything is just as beautiful as it was as when you first got there!Besides the room we went to a nearby town called Holland that was cool to visit and we ate at the 8th Street Grille. My wife and I shared a burger and each enjoyed one of their micro brews together. Then we went and saw Lake Michigan after that at Castle Park. We wanted to go horse back riding, but we couldnt get ahold of the owner to make a time to do it. My suggestion would be if you decide to you want to go horse back riding call a day in advance. We didnt think about that until later. So we continued on to what we were going to do next, Skiing! If you order passes through the B & B then you get a better deal on the lift pass so we did that. Then we went skiing for about 4-5 hours at the Bitter Sweat Ski Resort. It was great! There were not too many people as it was a Tuesday. After that we went to The Grill House just north of the B & B. We had a great meal there as well. All in all, we had a great time! There was quite a bit of stuff to do and we wish had more time do it.Ruth was very kind. Check in was between 4-6 EST and we werent going to make it by that time so she made accommodations so that we could stop at Brewsters in Paw Paw on the way up. She knew we were hungry and were going to probably head back out after checking in so she said just go eat first then come up and check in that way you dont have to back track. I thought that was a very nice gesture.I booked my stay in January and the price per night was $240. While we were there we noticed a promo on Facebook that they just posted 3 days before our actual stay. We asked if they would honor that promo. They said normally it would have to be referenced while booking, but they said that they would honor it for us.This kind gesture saved me $200.It is obvious to me that the Castle In The Country is not only a business to make make money, but they also want to make sure that they take great care of their guests even at their expense, which I find to be rare and a great business trait. We had a wonderful time and I will recommend Castle in the Country to others. This is my first B&B experience and I now plan on visiting many more because of my experience at Castle in the Country, but I have a strong feeling that maybe Castle In The Country may have set the bar so high that I may have too high of expectations when I visit others. :)Thank you Castle In The Country for the great time.Steve and Megan
Over priced and poor quality cleaning. Wifi is poor and unreliable. Cable TV service is outdated not even HD. Jets in the tub didnt work. Terrible breakfast. Do not follow CDC guidelines for covid disinfecting. Would not recommend as there are better places for less expense. Staff is rude. Not a nice place at all
Sept. 2106 - Enjoyed everything (except the road noise) immensely. Very detail oriented and we felt like house guests. A sign up sheet for the kayaks and paddle boat might be helpful. Well be back.We returned in Jan. 2017 and enjoyed another luxurious stay. Accommodations and food were again tremendous. Were fans for life!
A very pleasant getaway for us, the castle checked all of our boxes !, we relaxed with a beautiful room, with state of the art tech amenities, to a dvd player, yet it was all behind the scenes so we could just enjoy the beautiful home-like feel of the inn, but get stuff done if we needed to.in addition the fantastic grounds were what we also came for, we hiked with the provided snowshoes around the well marked trails, ran the trails as well, and relaxed in the common ares just staring at the pure michigan winter landscapes!the location is well situated so that we took 30 min or less day trips to holland, saugatuck, south haven (where there is a very nice covered outdoor ice skating rink where we skated ), and recs for nice restaurants were provided.lastly was the very kind and welcoming owners/staff, ruth, eric and herb were very nice and helpful, making sure we were happy and well taken care the entire 6 day stay !we would rec this getaway in a heartbeat !, and plan on returning to see the spring/summer/fall side of things !dan and pat
Everything was 5 stars except the hospitality, which wasnt horrible, but was definitely not on a par with the rest of the experience. No one actually introduced themselves, addressed us by name, asked if this was a special occasion (it was - our 33rd anniversary). No one was rude, but the innkeeper was definitely a bit standoffish. I have seen this noted in a couple of other reviews as well. The King Arthur Room is amazing. Beautiful place.
Calling it Castle is no understatement. I stayed in the Lady Guinevere room for two nights and felt like a princess. Breakfast in the morning was always delicious, and the whole Castle Keep is lay out and decorated beautifully. The grounds well kept and peaceful to just sit in.
Both my Husband and I prior to marriage experienced life and were very fortunate and traveled all over the world to amazing places, adventures and met many people . Interestingly enough , Our time shared at Castle in the Country and the places they referred us to like the Grill house and Butches Dry Dock as well will remain in the fondest of our memories the People , Service, and Excellence is truly the finest.
This is definitely a place you want to go to to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This should definitely be on everyones to do list! The room was clean, the common areas were clean and fully stocked. The staff was extremely professional and friendly. It was a home away from home.
Surpised my better half with a weekend get away for her 50th birthday. Arrived on Friday night to a beautiful facility and great Inn Keeper to greet us. Great suggestion for a local dinner the first night. Amazing breakfast on Saturday followed by a walk to the Gazebo where i once again surpised the love of my life by asking her to marry me. The staff was in all of this planning and could not have been easier to work with. Culminated on Sunday with yet another fantastic breakfast. We hope to get back next year!!
Words cant describe how everyone treated us . My husband surprised me with a stay at your beautiful bed and breakfast !! We loved everything about the place and people . The staff were marvelous ! The food was amazing ! Not once were we ever made to feel unimportant ! Im at loss for words on we everything was . Every detail was thought of anyone needs to be fully relaxed with no worries .
I cant say enough great things about this magical place. We spent our 5 year anniversary here and came back for our 10th. We had a rough couple of weeks before our tip due to some unforseen issus and this place helped relax us and was just perfect. Ruth and Herb treat you as family and will do anything they can to make your stay what you want. Herb is a wouderful gourmet cook and I havent had anything that was not good. Ruth will make sure you know all the places to go (if you want to leave the room). The couples massage was worth every penny!! If you want a relaxing place to go to forgot about everyday life for awhile this is it! :)
There are two main issues, and one little suggestion. First, when checking in we were told rarely is there difficulty with availability of kayaks. When we went to use them, both the kayak and paddle boat were in use. The ppl using them were in no rush to return. When CintheC is at full capacity, there should be more kayaks available. Also, the more romantic locales within the grounds were always occupied. I guess we could have wandered around on the trails, but we were looking for romance in an outdoor setting. Next, we stayed in the Lady Guinevere suite. And when we entered there were about 5 stinkbugs crawling around. So I got rid of them. On Sat afternoon, after returning to our room, there were more stinkbugs, plus another couple of beetles, plus a wasp flying around. I got rid of them. IDK if the air condtioners rigging was the cause of this, as it was taped together, and didnt create a tight seal in the window. I plugged up the seal as best I could. And there was also a piece of foam in the window, presumably to plug up more holes. We didnt bother getting anyone because I figured Id get rid of them just as quickly, and at full capacity there werent any rooms to transfer us to. Also, less irritating, at beakfast, it would be nice to have a choice of options each day. Overall the stay was OK, but those two big problems really killed the romantic vibe we wanted. Unless changes are made I would not recommend this place to friends and family.
This is easily one of the most beautiful places Ive ever stayed at, the views, the room ( I stayed in the King Arthur Suite), the trails, the peddle boating experience, the gourmet breakfast, everything so very visually appealing. Melina is one of the innkeepers and her customer service is above and beyond, she was very sweet and had a very gentle spirit about her. Our initial arrival and being greeted by Melina made me feel reassured that I had picked the perfect place to treat my love for her birthday. The reason I subtracted 2 stars was not the grounds, they deserve 5 stars. It was Ruth, she seemed very uncomfortable when speaking to me. Maybe theyve never had a Lesbian couple stay at this property, maybe she was offended by my sexuality or by me for some reason but she appeared to be very uncomfortable when she addressed me and my partner. She also kind of hovered over me while I was making a cup of tea and figuring out how to use one of the brewing machines and even butted in and suggested I use another machine that just let out hot water like I was some idiot or something, that really ticked my partner off. Another thing is EVERYTIME I called the front desk with a question, most of the time a general question...I was asked what room I was staying in which I thought was odd. One time I called simply because I could not locate a large trash can so I could properly clean the room before we vacated as we had some large boxes and leftover food containers to throw away, she seemed agitated that I was even asking. I called with a question about the peddle boat and she again asked me what room I was staying in, it was just weird because it had nothing to do with my question. Its almost as if they determined how they would service your inquiries based on the room you stay in. Also I inquired about buying a bottle of wine I saw, and they didnt sell it and I nicely said okay and that Melina had pointed me to some wineries that I would go to and she suggested that I could go to rite aid around the corner. Lol!! I mean sheesh, Ruth! I understand you may not be used to what you saw, or maybe just not accepting or open to it, but we are highly educated professional women aside from what meets the eye. We wanted to indulge in the real deal too! Thats why we traveled and paid as much as we did! Because we could! I can figure out how to use a brewing machine and I can damned well afford an expensive bottle of wine! Shame, because initially I was ready to make this a regular place on our lists. But maybe minds are a tad to small and closed for me!!! Beautiful Beautiful property!!! Aside from those things that rubbed me and my partner the wrong way, we still made the best of it and had a beautiful memory filled time!!! But we will take our hard earned money somewhere more accepting!!! However thank you for our stay, if it werent for Melina and the the guy that works around the castle keep, geeze I probably wouldve given 1 star. How someone makes me feel when Im spending my hard earned money on their business is so important to me!! Thank you Melina, We still had a great time!
Looks nothing like the pictures, dont be fooled. its directly next to the road in basically the poorest county in all of the state of MI. (google it) surrounded by collapsing and decrepit buildings, it smelled horribly of cow manure, so bad that we could not enjoy being outside, not even for a minute. the main house looked as though it hadnt been painted in years, the paint was peeling off the building and the ugliest color blue ive seen in my life. so if you can imagine the exterior, dont get me started on the dated and horridly colored interior. The food was awful, and i guarantee frozen. Zero fresh ingredients. Im sure Chef Ramsey would have a field day there, i cant imagine what the walk in cooler must look like or how horribly dirty the kitchen is. over all i feel ripped off. it was overpriced and left me with a sour taste in my mouth. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME
If peace and quite is what you seek then this is your place. The staff is just great, even when we panicked and couldnt find the Inn they were right on point in getting us to them. The breakfast was superb. (coffee is great this is important to coffee drinkers lol). Even thought there was a hick-up , the staff was most professional ni addressing the situation. We will return
Very relaxing and beautiful scenery. Room was fabulous. Staff very helpful and attentive. Food was great. Not alot of other places real close to their location so going anywhere for food or things to do are bit of a drive was the only drawback. Staff was helpful woth suggestions for food though. All around, great experience.

2022-06-16My husband and I visited the Inn for a romantic getaway for our 1 year wedding anniversary. We were very pleased with the staff and the property. Everyone was friendly, but respected our privacy. The grounds had various little romantic spots to enjoy each other’s company. We enjoyed the paddle boats on the private lake and the hiking trails. We stayed in the Camelot Suite and it was amazing! The spacious jacuzzi tub and fireplace in the bathroom were perfect! The breakfast was delicious and the staff provided some snacks, including homemade cookies for us to enjoy. We highly recommend this B&B and will absolutely be returning!

2022-05-25Castle in the Country B&B is such an incredible place to unwind, celebrate, and enjoy any special occasion! My wife and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary here and we cant believe that we picked such an exquisite place. The staff is caring, knowledgeable and very accommodating to every one of our needs. The food and drinks are absolutely mouthwatering and delicious, and the scenery is second to none. Plus each room is unique in their own right. I dont give them out easily... but this Bed and Breakfast gets a SOLID 5 ⭐️s from us!

2022-01-16We had an incredible stay! We typically steer away from bed and breakfast type lodging because we like privacy but Castle In The Country has perfected the perfect balance of acute customer service and privacy! The grounds are gorgeous, every employee is professional and friendly, and the food is incredible! Our massage therapists were AMAZING! We loved that they offer a text option for any request, service, or question pretty much 24/7 as wellHighly recommend! We will definitely be making this a traditional trip!

2022-03-16My husband and I had our first mini getaway here after the birth of our first baby. We had never done a bed and breakfast before, so Castle in the Country will always hold a special place in our hearts. It was a fantastic stay all around. We stayed in the Lady Guinevere suite and it was so cozy. We were very pleased with its cleanliness and complimentary amenities. It was such a serene environment and our on-site massage was heavenly! We also liked the relatively clsoe proximity to Holland, as we made 2 day trips there. We will keep coming back until we have enjoyed every single room, and then make our rounds again. 10/10 highly recommend.

2022-04-07My husband and I had a wonderful time in the Lady Guenivere Suite! Everything was SO clean and all the little touches are so nice. We loved having access to the common area with the lovely view of the pond and the great selection of hot tea and coffee. Check in was great…everyone is so friendly and being given an area map of things to do was very helpful. The food is incredible!! We had breakfast delivered to our room each morning and got the picnic lunch which was a wonderful treat! We will definitely be back!

Property has all sorts of thoughtful extras that really added to the stay. Also loved all of the recommendations on the adventure map. 2022-01-02Our stay at castle in the country was amazing to say the least. We came up for the weekend for a birthday/New Years celebration and the home and hospitality here is unmatched. We felt so at home and so taken care of. So many personal touches for your stay and they are there for anything you need. All of our phone calls and emails answered very promptly to make our visit easy. We haven’t experienced a bed and breakfast before and the price for experience here was completely worth it. We will be back!!

2022-01-30My wife and I visited Castle in the country to celebrate her 45th birthday. We were in the Camelot suite, which was absolutely beautiful. The customer service was excellent. They gave top notch service that just made us feel like royalty ...They went above and beyond...it had started to snow one of the nights we were there, and the owners knew we were out. They gave us a call to warn us about the traveling conditions and the bad roads. Overall stay was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place and will be back.

2022-07-03My wife and I stayed at Castle in the Country for our honeymoon. We stayed six nights, and loved every one.Upon arrival, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and informative. They explained the easy check-in and check-out process, the grounds, and provided recommendations for places to eat during our stay.We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet room, and it was beautiful. Very romantic with a jacuzzi tub right across from our bed and a beautiful, high midnight blue ceiling.Breakfast was served at 9am (which can be adjusted if you would prefer to receive it earlier or later) to our door. Each breakfast was delicious and unique, but always came with fresh fruit, orange juice, and a different flavored pastry. Fresh coffee was available between 9am-12pm, and then there are coffee machines everywhere in case you want/need more after that time frame for you to make a cup.The grounds were beautiful with a firepit area, enclosed netted igloo area to escape bugs but still enjoy outside, a sitting area by the water, and a deck area with string lights perfect for dancing. There are also paddleboats and kayaks at a pond after walking a short path (that is admittedly buggy, but the time on the water is worth it and there are cans of bug spray available in multiple outdoor areas). We purchased the royalty package which included a 60 minute couples massage, picnic with your choice of wine, two Castle in the Country keepsake wine glasses, and a $60.00 dinner voucher to one of four restaurants for you to choose from.We loved our stay at the Castle in the Country.

2022-04-30Beautiful property! This was our first time staying in a B&B. We stayed in the Kingdom Suite during our mini-moon and had the Royal Treatment package. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable, with breakfast brought to our room.Breakfast each day was outstanding. We had a delicious spinach feta quiche with sweet potato crust, cherry-maple sausage with a fresh salad and a blueberry muffin one day; savory scones, & stuffed French toast (I think made from their delicious bread loaf mentioned later). This was all served with fresh fruit and OJ. Everything was beyond expectation with food and service.Kaylin (I hope I’m spelling that right) and Spencer were both extremely accommodating and we were really pleased to have such great service / hospitality. Our picnic basket was awesome, packed with a charcuteries, fresh fruit, etc. and an AMAZING bread loaf that we could chow every day for the rest of our lives. Yum.Our couples massage was great and we had really personable therapists that even gave us a couple tips to use - really helpful and much appreciated! We also loved our cute little woodchuck friend on our walks to the lake each day :)Will definitely be returning again many times in the future. Thank you all for such an amazing experience.
