Chengs Restaurant in other cities:
This place never disappoints food wise. Although if you are placing a pickup order, probably add another 10-20 minutes if its the weekend, they get very busy and their estimates are often behind by that much or more. Weekdays they are normally on time. My go to dim sum place, always fresh, made to order, served all day. Prefer this restaurant over any place in the area for dim sum.
The portions of take out order are so small that it doesnt match the picture at all. I am so speechless. Also, the Shanghainese Bun tastes like pepper. My son says it is spicy. Other dishes are so so. I called the restaurant but the ladys attitude is awful. Very disappointed!
I ordered two course duck and some dim sum for my family today, it was totally disappointed. They only served one small box of rice for so many food I ordered today, how could my whole family share with such little rice? The two course duck, one of the course was just half of the plate full, and the duck meat was little as well. The squid I ordered were tiny pieces as well. I called back to ask the owner why all of the food were less than normal ( I ordered several times before the pandemic) and she was extremely impatient and kept finding excuses. The most terrible thing was the packing boxes they use were easily unsealed, I really wondered during this special time, how come the owner didn’t take customer’s health into account??? I really feel the only thing she cared was her money, neither the quality of the food nor the cleanness of the food. Not worthy at all! Don’t order from this restaurant!!!
DThe decorations are nice but that was about it. What they serve was not the same thing as what they put on the menu. whether you have one person ordering or five people ordering it, they bring out the exact same amount of rice. This is despite the fact that you pay the full price for each order. The menu said fried rice but they bought out white rice and when I asked about it, they said thats what they always served so why did the menu disagree? Our server had absolutely no idea what she was doing. when I got my tea, I had to wait another 15 minutes for a cup to actually drink with it despite continually trying to get their attention. the prices were extremely high it for the portions given compared to many other Chinese restaurants I have been to. the staff also found it quite necessary to stand in the eating area and talk so loud that it sounded like a high school cafeteria. I couldnt even hear who I was with despite the fact that she was right across the booth because the staff assume that since they were speaking in Chinese and only half the customers could understand the language, it gave them free range to practically scream at each other for over half the time that we were sitting there. I would not recommend this place at all.
This was my first visit to this restaurant and the first dim sum experience for me and most of our party. We all gave this restaurant a big thumbs up.The food was very tasty. Theres a wide variety of dishes and everything we tried most of the table liked. The prices are very reasonable. We ordered 14 dishes off the dim sum menu for less than $60.Staff was decent and polite. It is a small place and can be a bit loud at times. All said it was a great experience.
This is a truly authentic Chinese experience from hospitality to cuisine. My wife and I have lived in China and were pleasantly surprised with the restaurant. If you are looking for typical American style Chinese food this may not be the place for you, but if you like authentic Chinese then you have found it. The Dim Sum was awesome with reasonable portions and prices.
Dim sum is available any time of the day. They cook it to order. We have tried the Peking duck and it was very good. Since Dim sum is serve to order, it might take 10 minutes before the next dish comes out which is not good especially when you come with a group of friends and only one dish have been serve but I will still come back. The food taste pretty good.
Ordered Dim Sum carryout (because of Covid-19) for my sons 1st birthday and we were so impressed! Not only did we order a big variety, everything was fresh! The shumai had full pieces of shrimp in it and the baos are springy and fluffy. Thank you for going above and beyond to help our family celebrate a big occasion. We will definitely be coming back!
1 star is generous. After frequenting this restaurant for over 20 years I am done. This restaurant was sold a few years back. Since the new owners have taken over both the service and food has gone down hill.Today on Mothers day my family went and had the worst meal ever. We gave them to attempts at cooking the food. After waiting over two hours for the meal we gave up. Both times it came back raw. Not even the vegetables were cooked completely. We paid for the food and on the way out they ran after us into the parking lot to demand a better tip. So I told them cook the food. Thats the best tip you can get.
It used to be 3 start, but it had gotten worse in quality, quantity, and service. The taste of dim sum isnt as good as before and now its only 2/3 of the original size. We walked in during lunch time and not a single waitress or worker come out to guide us or ask us if we are dining in or carry out for straight 10 minutes.
Never again. Found this place 2 years ago and the food was decent. Back in town this year, so decided to go back. Hostess (owner?) took one look at us as she seated us and promptly removed the traditional place settings which included the chopsticks. Guess she thought we didnt look like we would use chopsticks? Had to ask her to bring the chopsticks back, which she did with an attitude, slapping them on the table. Also, was not given/offered the dim sum menu, only the standard menu. Didnt feel like making a big deal out of it, so ordered off the standard menu. The food was so bland. Almond Boneless Chicken was not fried long enough, so the thick batter on it was half cooked and gravy/sauce was bland and tasted like cornstarch. Beef dish was also not flavorful. We figured we could do better taking home and doctoring up, so asked for containers. Hostess practically argued with us when we asked for one extra carryout container so that we didnt have to combine the 2 entrees and rice. She was disrespectful and rude the entire time we were there. Ended up throwing everything out the next day, as the chicken had an odd, greyish white color after we pulled off the undercooked batter and beef was too tough to reheat. Terrible experience in every way.
I asked my phone,Good Egg Foo Young, near me..... we had a pretty good one there 3 large patties good flavor served hot, should have ordered extra gravy(sauce) split 1 entree... good Wonton soup, ordered an extra bowl, hot flavorful. We were very happy to find that they have Dim Sum 🍤have to go back soon
The general tsos chicken had just 2 teeny tiny pieces of broccoli when the menu clearly describes that it is made with vegetables. Carrots, broccoli and onions are the norm. Rice does not come with it. The egg rolls were soft and squishy, not crispy. The pork lomein was very good
Didnt realize this place existed after 5 years living in the area! Was looking for a last minute place for dinner on a late Sunday night and was pleasantly surprised to see that they were open until 10pm.Place was moderately busy and we ordered shortly after getting drinks. We ordered the standard almond boneless chicken and gai kow entrees. Our waitress at a table nearby and didnt check on us for refills or to see if everything was good after we received our meals. The wonton dumplings tasted OK but the egg roll and entrée were delicious. The waiting staff was loud with children running around but that was a part of the ambiance I felt. Clearly close Chinese family with a family restaurant. I would say for 4-5 stars they would need to work on the attention to service and more professional restaurant environment. We will try this place again for dim sum.
Can you say Dim Sum! Lol yum my coworker took me here and Ive been back multiple times. We love coming for the Dim Sum menu (basically think small plates for you Americans) we love the sharing style and trying new things. My wifes favorite is the pan fried turnip cake with a little bit of soy sauce and let me tell you lol probably one of my favorites too.The prices here are reasonable, service is good, and we always enjoy the food. Its a good restaurant to try out if youre looking for chinese one night.
The food was bland not seasoned well, the charged an extra $3 for any variations of a dish.My hot and sour soup was cold. I asked for it to be replaced with wonton in addition I asked for more noodles for my soup. I never got those. The service was poor.I felt tricked into desert. A lady walked the isle carrying a tray of tarts asking if anyone wanted a tart. We said sure we would try them and once the bill came the had charged for the tarts. I felt tricked. The tart was an egg tart. It was not something I would have ever ordered. We only tasted them and did not like them.I have frequented other Chinese restaurants where deserts are complementary that is what we thought this was.It took an extended amount of time for them to check us out. While waiting at the cash register with other guest we could screaming from the back and arguing. It was unnerving.I just paid for the tarts in order to leave quickly. I would not recommend or return.
Good foodUpdate 12/2017 So I used to come to Chengs quite often for lunch with my friendsfrom work. I even recommended many people to this restaurant however, a few days after Christmas me and my wife decided to go here to dine in and there were a few people already seated (about 4 groups) one person in front of us waiting and me and my wife. It was moderately busy but nothing out of the normal for a restaurant during dinner time. The staff literally ignored us for about 5 minutes and when I say literally ignored us they acted as if we werent there and even bumped into me a few times as they cleaned off a table I was standing near for another party that wasnt even there yet. We left and gave our money to someone else and I will never go here again because of how rude they were. I mean how hard is it to say hello be with you in a moment.....something!
It becomes our favorite dim sum place since we try once. Their price is very decent, so as the size of the dishes. However the place is very small. They only have 2 big table (for w10 ppl), other than that, they have couple more round tables in the middle which can fit in 6-8 ppl. The rest (on both side along the wall) are the booth that can fit in 4 ppl.
Still my very favorite go to restaurant!Easy. Fun Staff. Best Almond boneless chicken around.Best Wonton soup broth!Dim sum all day. Great Chinese menu. We love the Spiced Salted Squid & the string Beans.I like their eggplant hotpot. I substitute peapods for the green pepper + I ask for added Ginger.Just a laid back little restaurant that you can curl up with some goid stuff to eat and some warm tea & feel better. Like home
Ordered Almond Chicken from them and the chicken was so hard I had to use a steak knife to cut it. Took one bit and ended up giving it to my dogs. I had ordered a combo plate from them before and it was ok, but not great. Place is hit or miss and the hits are so so. Cant really recommend them.
A chinese restaurant that has sizzling rice soup is always good in my book, so lets start with that foundation. The crab rangoons were good, but the egg rolls were lacking in taste. The Mongolian Beef was not good at all. As a stand alone dish, I would give it 1 star. It was a huge pile of vegetables and no beef, maybe 10% of the dish. We also tried Chicken Lo-mein and Orange Chicken . The Lo-mein was ok, it too was lacking in flavor. The Orange Chicken was good. Portion sizes were large and the service was quick.
We ordered 4 dishes, and one of the dishes came out very late, and we found out a steel wire about 2 inches in the dish, and we called waitress and she didnt allow me to take the picture, and took the steel wire back to kitchen and the owner or manager didnt come out and pretend nothing happened. The dish was also charged, no discount.
If I could leave a zero stars I would. The women argued with me about my order. First she couldnt find it. I asked for lo mein noodles, I recieved chow mean fried noodle. Nothing was done about it. Very DISRESPECTFUL! Will never ever go again. Trash, trash, trash!!!!!
My favorite Chinese restaurant in metro Detroit because its so authentic! I grew up in Toronto eating authentic Chinese food all the time and go to Chengs whenever Im craving some Chinese food. High quality dim sum and a good dinner menu with authentic Chinese dishes.
Food is pretty good. But service is probably the worst. I came as the third, then 3 new groups of people just walked in and checked in in front of me. The waiter doesnt even care who comes first because they dont even care. Whoever asks the waiter to check in first got in the front of the line. I winded up waiting 30 mins standing. After I finally find a place to sit. The exact people cutting in front of me started kicking the booth sitting box behind me. It never ended before they left.Appointment is not accepted. be careful to wait 25 mins each time. And dont forget to check in. Because people will just cut in front of you and ignore you. If you want to pick up a fight then proably you can get in earlier.
Love Chinese food but this foos is for the birds not even a good sweet and sour chicken . Chicken very tuff and no pineapples in thw sauce pertty cheap if you ask me and the sweet rolls were not good neirhwr. Over all find another resteraunt if not I hate to tell you I told you so.
Terrible service. Terrible food. No taste to either of the 3 dishes, just blah.Avoid this place! 1st timer and last timer customer.Complained food was terrible after 2 bites and all they did was bring the check. I was a waitress for many years so I NEVER COMPLAIN but this place was the worst 🤢No one ate the food or took it home.
Ive eaten Chinese food around the globe from here in the US in NYC, Philly, and San Francisco to Italy, the UAE, and Port-Au-Prince, Haiti (The PLA spooks make great food, just dont ask about the meat. Really. Dont ask - ever. )I have to say that this is the *worst* Chinese place Ive ever eaten at; they used some really odd spices that left me ill and then left the car smelling like Id run over a skunk. Id stay away. Seriously. Dont go.
OMG!! We just heard about this place and being Avid dim sum lovers we decided to try itAfter traveling from Hong Kong California Chicago and various places here in Michigan having dim sum this is by far one of the best weve ever had the food is ordered and comes out ultra fresh piping hot and deliciousA TRUE Find!

2020-10-16I think this is one of the better Chinese restaurants in my area. I consistently order from them. I love their double meat combo. Sometimes I just want a little bit of this & that. I usually get the shrimp egg foo young & pepper steak with shrimp fried rice. Today I added a bowl of wonton soup with chicken and veggies. Good broth not to salty filled up to the top. On a cold rainy day like today it was very enjoyable.

2022-01-25It’s the American Chinese food we all love. 16 days worth of sodium packed into a 3000 calorie lunch combo. Delicious.

2022-01-02Love that they have the option of two-combination plates. I always go for the stir-fry veggies and the Brocc. Beef. The veggies here are better than the typical Chinese restaurants around.

2021-10-06The food was amazing when I first moved to Rochester in Aug of 2020. I ordered probably five times and thought I found THE best Chinese food place ever. But I think the owner was cooking during the shutdown and now that things opened back up, the food unfortunately is sub-par. I ordered in May and was vastly disappointed. The chicken was overcooked with no spice AT ALL when I ordered General Tsos Chicken. I ordered again just a couple of days ago and its the same disappointment. I am sad to say I wont be back.

2018-07-08Dim Sum was quite good. Definitely be back to try more variety. Winter melon soup and chineese broccoli were top notch.
