Chubbys in other cities:
Have never had a bad experience here. Always excellent drinks, food and servers. This is our go-to place. We have taken our kids and grands here on numerous occasions. Always no problem getting seated with prompt service. The menu is varied with something for everyone. Highly recommend.
Food was really great!!As far as service and management goes, it was all over the place. A struggle to order a simple mix drink. I did try to drink it and just carry on with dinner, but it was so terrible and bad (asked for a margarita with triple sec, if they had it with house tequila.)Because I couldn’t bare the drink, most places would have taken the time to ask and possibly take it off the bill. No instead it was taken away and dumped.
Very nice place, only stopped for drinks so didnt get the full experience. Waiter was very helpful getting our group drinks in a timely matter and helping our newly 21 year old decide on drinks. It is definitely not a bar more of a restaurant, online made it seem more of a bar setting
Really enjoyed our meal and the service we received here recently. Drinks were poured well, our reservation was ready for a large group on a Saturday night and our server was good. Between our group, all meals were delivered as ordered. They have items on their menu that other places dont offer as well... #hamsteak! Very good!
Bucking the trend of smaller bowls, more rings, the onion rings arrive in a white bowl thats just slightly too big to accommodate the somewhat meager helping of onion rings. Served with a black plastic cup of southwest ranch, that mysterious sauce thats simultaneously proprietary and ubiquitous, the plating isnt wowing, but neither is it jarring. The onion rings themselves are a different story. In my many (or, 2) years of reviewing onion rings, Ive never seen an onion ring with such a pattern on the breading. The rings are characterized by dark brown stripes occurring at regular intervals along the edge, emanating out from the center of the ring. They look vaguely like grill marks, but on further inspection, I think theyre more likely to be some sort of sauce added on near the end of frying. Their breading is fairly consistent, though the size is variate. The only other observation of note is the total fusion of two onion rings within one another, perhaps a meta-commentary on the dual nature of the color due to the stripes.Though the onions are cut a little thin, especially given the quantity of the rings, they were able to provide a sizeable amount of onion flavor. As may be expected at a bar, theyre accompanied by a decent amount of grease, though its not tremendously overwhelming. The most fascinating part of these onion rings is no doubt tied to their unique striped appearance. Throughout the batter, and mixing in with the whole of the onion ring, there is a subtle, but ever present, tang. Its like a particular seasoning was mixed in with the batter, lending credence to my secondary theory of a sauce of some kind added to the batter after frying. The tang leads to a slightly sweet, and unidentified (even to my exclusively-refined-in-the-world-of-onion rings taste buds) taste, but its a fascinating innovation. Additionally, the southwest ranch serves as a creamy complement to the uniquely sweet onion rings. While the rings have a unique taste, the tang isnt always pleasant, and is attractive more for its innovation and mystery than flavor.Much like the humble and invasive zebra mussel, these striped onion rings have a crunchy and hardened exterior. Though Ive never eaten a zebra mussel (indeed, my main interaction with them comes from an unfortunate incident with a bloody toe in Green Lake), I like to imagine they are moist and juicy on the inside, with a strong hint of onion. If that turns out to not be the case, at least these onion rings are. The onions are cooked well, with a slight pliability and moistness without careening towards mush, and they complement the firm crunch of the batter.Unfortunately, much like a zebra mussel, slippage of the interior parts to the outside are a negative. Slippage was all too common in these onion rings, with many a ring dissolving in a pile of onion and batter, which worked oh so well together.Though innovative and well put together (barring the numerous counts of slippage), the price of $2.99 is a little too steep for so few onion rings. That said, they were largely good, if not great, and delivered not only a unique appearance, but a fascinating tang that Ive still yet to unveil.
I went with a group of friends and ended up ordering the rodeo burger. It was a little overcooked but still tasted good and the curly fries were decent too. The music was so loud that we had a hard time hearing each other across the table, but our waitress was great and the food was good enough that Id be back to try more in the future.
Im a fan. Its one of the only places around here to get Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat Ale, which is so good. They put those little bar cherries in it and its so freaking good. Their selection of other beers is a bit sparse but I only ever drink one thing when I go there. Also, get the Olive Burger and the Fried Pickles. The tuna melt is good too. I really enjoyed my experience the other day and the waitresses are always very friendly. Plus the clientele at Chubbys is a bit older and so its less noisy and obnoxious.
The kind of place where everyone get to know your Name & Taste;-) The food & menu is well thought out & prepared perfectly! I would have to say the burgers are their go-to, but try the chubbys signature sauce on the wings or bites if you get a chance. It’s a must! The service/staff management & the owner are fantastic people making me excited for my next visit!!!!
Went there for a b-day for a friend. We were a large group they were very accommodating. The server was great. Food great. I had a salad and a patty melt. A lot of the friends ordered the hot and topless sandwich. Its made with roast beef. My husband wanted his with Turkey and they did his that way no problem. We would go back again
Long time customer, just attempted to place an order to go. Have been informed cannot get take out on Friday or Saturday due to being shorthanded. During this pandemic, this is an extremely poor business choice. Lost my business. Sad as we have enjoyed this restaurant for several years.
We got a great take out dinners yesterday-the food was great -very easy curb site pick-safe & healthy -a great local restaurant-we NEED to support-we stop again! Thanks Mark Nelson. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes American food such as burgers, steaks, etc.
Started out nice. Drinks came in a timely fashion. The southwest egg rolls are awesome. Unfortunately took forever to get. Meals took even longer! Great flavor but barely warm. Great atmosphere, nice staff. Dont go unless you have lots of time to have dinner. Service just to slow.
Loved Chubbys it was amazing. Not only were the staff perfect, the atmosphere was great and the regulars were a bunch of fun. For food think of classy pub food but better. And if you like a bit more spice there is a spicy ranch that was good. If you are there for drinks, everyday has some kind of special and happy hour deal, so check it out at different times of the day. Great place, will be back.
My wife and I had great time, the food and staff were excellent. Update 1/19/2021.Can believe its been so long since Ive reposted, wish I could give them more stars. Can not wait until we can have a sit down meal with them again, until then dash board dining has to do. We make sure to stop in once a week. Please remember to take care of our local business. Being a regular doesnt mean being a good customer, it means your are family, there is no better feeling.
Dined for a Friday lunch. It was very busy. Parking is limited and it was a challenge to find a spot. Upscale bar food with burgers, wraps and a good selection of salads, not that I eat salads at a place like this. Food took a long time to get but it was hot, fresh and delicious. My husband had the Philly Steak and I had the Chicken Philly wrap. The fries, which are potato wedges, were awesome with the ranch! We really liked our sandwhiches! We will dine here again!
Decent food, an okay selection of beer, and a friendly wait staff. I thought the ambiance was fine and the place itself was a bit noisy. Not a bad bar at all, but just nothing particularly special about it either. I would come back if someone wanted to meet up though, just not by myself.
Every time we go here we enjoy the food. That said I am not happy that they changed the way Cesar salad is prepared. They used to have smaller chopped lettuce now they just have the whole lettuce leaves. Yeah I am a bit picky but this was one of the things that made this salad Great as opposed to just decent. The drinks are decent and the waitstaff seems on top of things and nice. There are Cajun chicken bites that are pretty good as an appetizer.
First time ever trying Chubbys this afternoon, met a friend for a late lunch and was really impressed with it. The food was hot and delicious I had the french dip and fries ( I love french dips and dont find to many good ones anymore.) The fries were amazing nice and thick cooked all the way through and came out hot. The server did a great job and was sweet. Thank you Lauren W. And Chubbys I will be back.
I was craving a burger today, so i ordered a rodeo burger to go from chubbys. I got back to the office fully expecting a soggy burger, but to my delight found this! They separated the buns, the meat, and the toppings so everything was fresh. It made for the MOST DELICIOUS BURGER! Also, their fries might be the best Ive ever had. highly recommend!!
Always great service and great food. Tryed something different last visit. Boneless chicken wings. Was not impressed at all. There was only just a little chicken inside and three fourths was a hard crunchy crust. Should of sent it back. Friend ordered same thing and she agreed it was bad.
Went in to get a gift card for my dad because we usually frequent here (and did carry out during the shutdown). No one on staff had a mask, no distancing whatsoever, and was even smirked at when I wore my mask. I was very sad to see them not abiding by ANY of the guidelines from the state. It may be a year until I come back, I do not feel comfortable eating in a place that does not respect their customers enough to try and be safe.
Decent selection of hard liquor, basic bottled beer selection. Regular bar food and appetizers. The have a decent selection of what you would expect going to any bar. The thing that sets then apart is their customer service. They played rock the whole time, which was awesome.
The beer batter cook was small for $13.99 and the quality of it was bad. For a side I asked for curly fries and I kid you not I had half the amount as my whole table. Tried to say something to the server, but she was too busy to do anything. This is the third time I have visited Cubbys and I have yet to have a good meal.
Very easy to find location. Really great food selection too. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Was moderately busy when we were there it does get a bit noisy but was just the nature of the place. Apparently ALOT of people like to go there. They are open late which was great for us as we have been visiting at the hospital across the street.
Nice atmosphere and location. Probably a good place to drink. Drinks were good and service was fine. Would definitely not recommend eating here. Our table had a good mix of food. It was all bad. Burrito, burger, queso, rueben. Typical food service delivered bulk frozen slop at premium prices. Stop across the street at Wing Doozy if youre coming here to drink.
This place is the best. The servers and food are super great. Our server Haylee was a super star!!!!!Would recommend this place to everyone that’s in the area.Hannah J. is a very courteous and attentive manager. its great coming in on Tuesdays with her and her staff. Would recommend stopping in.
Love Chubbys. My wife have been here several times over many years now. Never once have we had bad service or food. The burgers are killer and arguably my favorite in all of west Michigan. Try the sampler platter... the haystack onions are soooooo spicy and awesome. We order them on their own as an app sometimes. Wash it down with a big mug of something from Founders brewing.
Master Spas of West Mi-stop by for two great2-Shrimp Dinners yesterday-easy curb side service-safe & Healthy! Warm wonderful food -we stop by often -we MUST -get take out during these hard times help local businesses-they buy from us! Thanks Mark Nelson -business owner
I have been going here for the last 6 years.Lately we have been doing a lot ofTake out for the office and I must say service has been a+ since day one. Owners are always there and care greatly for the customers thanks for the love over the years and the great food-Jasmin
I always take a California wrap which is very good and available to share with a friend. Affordable appetizers, draft beers, and a small selection of bottled beers. Friendly staff. Always busy when we get there at 7ish on a week night. Giving four stars only because the interior is not my favorite, there are many TVs with sports channels on but it is a sports bar so its all good.
Our server, Anna, was not wearing her mask almost the entire time we were there. It was on her chin. Guests without masks, and no one said anything to them. As a healthcare worker, this was really disappointing to see and I will not be back until Covid is over or they follow the proper guidelines.
Seat yourself. As soon as We did waitress came over and said this table is reserved at 4:30. 1.5 hours from that point. So paying customers in hand. No reserved sign. Half the tables empty and the waitress says that. Surprised to say the least. Especially with 50% occupancy. Food is food not impressed with the waitress.
To many items, of which they do practically none of them particularly well. The burgers are pretty weird, every single one Ive had was flattened out so much its edges protruded an inch from the bun. I had this cajun pasta with chicken which in of itself was cooked fine, but the chicken was entirely bland and the pasta tasted like a taco, as if it had cilantro or something in it. Long story short is this is bar food and it only tastes good drunk.
We like this neighborhood hole in the wall. Sandwich, salad options are fresh, big, sort of old school in a good way. Not many places that still offer open faced roast beef with gravy and mashed potatoes...Chubbys does and they do it well. Some dinner options, full bar. Only downside is the noise level on occasion.
Will not return. Never wrote a review for restaurant before but meal was so......un-appealing....that I thought I had to. My sister and I both ordered the meat burrito. When waitress set it down in front of me, I was a little taken back with the visual look of the meal. Very little cheese (maybe there was some on the inside? Nope.), and very very dry looking. My sister had cut into hers and thought it tasted funny, at this point I had not cut into mine.Sister told the waitress she felt her burrito had tasted funny and she reordered a hamburger (which was good). My burrito meat was unseasoned, dry (very dry), and lukewarm at best. I ate about 1/4 of it. When waitress came back and asked how things were, I told her my burrito was not good either AND told her aside from the meat being very bland, it was very dry and lukewarm. She said she was sorry, and then ackwardly walked away. She did not offer to replace it, nor did she take the burrito off the bill. My guess is any other waitress or restaurant manager would have wanted to make it right so was not impressed with her response. She was a nice enough young lady, just didnt know what to do with a customer who was less than happy with her meal. Yikes!!
It was alright at best. Long wait for lame brats that came plain and with poor presentation. Not too busy but full enough to be entertained by the patrons that were drinking at lunch. ( jealous much, of course). Service was slow and poor. I would not recommend it and will not be returning.
Went there to eat and ordered a veggie wrap. The menu said the wrap came with lettuce, tomato, onion, jalapeno pepper, guacamole, cheese and a black bean burger. The order came out with no guacamole or cheese and filled with mostly lettuce. Waitress didnt come to check on order until food was almost gone. Very marginal food, wont be back
Very nice helpful waitress, very fresh good food, I have heard from, it seems like every restaurant lately that they have the best burgers, but this place actually does have very good burgers. All of the food we tried had great flavor and you could tell it was all fresh and natural good quality food.
Nachos way overcooked (crunchy cheese). Management redid the dish and gave 15% off (yet never came to table). Server screwed up another dish by forgetting to exclude mushrooms. Server personally deducted $5. Mistakes happen, but the generosity of the server (out of pocket $5) was in stark contrast to the stingyness of the owners/management (15% discount on nachos, most likely still made money on the dish and no communication). I hope this is taken as a learning point for the management and not a bash on the responsive server.
Apparently having kids and going here on a Friday afternoon is unacceptable... well that exactly how the hostess treated us, she immediatley said we would have to wait to sit down even though there were half the tables available.. then once she decided that we could finally sit down she was appalled that we needed a high chair for our 15 month old. She was so judgmental and rude, that we decided that we were clearly not welcome there, and if thats how we were treated then we were not going there and will never be coming back, how disappointing... I will make sure that everyone with kids not to go there as they are not welcome..

2021-12-23I visited this place on Halloween night after trick or treating. The owner of the establishment was amazing, she dressed them both up in funny costumes and walked them around the restaurant, showing them off to the other patrons, and gave them both a large to go container of candy, the girls really enjoyed that. The owner talked with all of us at the table and welcomed us to her restaurant. The server was also amazing, she made us feel as if we were one of her regulars. And last but not least, the food was amazing, with three adults and two children, we all got something different, and we were all very satisfied with our food, everything was great. I cant remember what everyone ordered, I got the Reuben and it was perfect, even the fries were great.

2022-03-23My family and I we’re looking for something quick to eat but did not want fast food. We found a Chubbys and I am happy we did. The server was friendly and we received our food very timely. The burgers were so fresh, juicy and tender. So happy we stopped here.

2022-05-02Stopped in on a Friday for lunch with my pastor and had a bacon cheeseburger and a draft TSM (One of my favorites, plus I was off the rest of the day). Top-notch service and the burger was cooked to a perfect medium, nice and juicy. I will definitely be coming back for a lunch break in the future, but no beer if going back to work.

2019-03-12I have to admit, lived here over 3 years and have seen this place a few times, though never made the stop. If your on this side of town, you must stop and give this place a shot. One of the best customer service experiences I have had here, though I only ordered a chef salad, the wife ordered chicken and fries. Has that down home feel, but with food and service you would expect to pay more for.
