Comment: I was humiliated and racially profiled today. ALFREDO the short doorman accused me of stealing when in fact I had my receipt. Then some girl named ASHLEY came up and agreed with him! Mind you I did not even go to self check out! All my items were rang up and accounted for by a Costco employee. And again my receipt was there in my hand saying all items were paid for. Then the manager GREG was also not helpful and said he would check the cameras .. even after he saw my receipt which said all items were paid for. This was unexpected, unethical and I am extremely dissatisfied with my visit at this location . This is unacceptable.

Comment: I am not a member but my parents are. They bought me a suitcase from Costco for Christmas, but one of the zippers just exploded. Costco said they would honor the warranty, but when I drove down and waited in line, I was told they won’t honor the warranty unless I physically bring my mother with me, as I do not personally hold a Costco membership. Even with a picture of her member card, and even with her on the phone. Even though she bought it with her Costco credit card, and we would have accepted a refund to that card. This is a stupid loophole for Costco to get out of honoring the warranty they say they will. Beware.

Comment: I live in Oakland and there are a few Costcos in the East Bay but I prefer to go to the Richmond one which is off the 580 or 80.This Costco is decent sized and most of them organized pretty well. They have a big parking lot which sometimes is almost fully packed, I usually try to go at off peak times.I dont have a gas car anymore but I used to get gas there, recommend doing early in the morning to avoid a line.I do get prescriptions from their Pharmacy and have always had good experiences with their pharmacies, no problems getting prescriptions filled.I also have dogs, so my wife and I like this Costco because right down the street from Point Isabel.

Comment: The only Costco I go to and I try to make it in at opening time, which is 9am. During its initial open time, the place is not yet as crowded as it gets during lunch hour and the rest of its business hours. Theres plenty of space to park, so you might think, but the place will turn into a chaotic lawless free for all hell parking lot. Then they have a gas station that can get as chaotic as the parking lot. With all this chaos in the Richmond Costco, I still enjoy this place than any other costco.

Comment: Dealing with the manager at the tire department Daniel he is not a good manager. I was here due to have some tires that were ordered from the member installed made an appointment a week and a half earlier for the installation got here for the appointment. The manager told me there’s nothing he can do. He needs the member present for the insulation, I find it quite Stupid whatever policies in place for that I mean I’m working for a senior citizen where I should be able to get the tires installed if they already paid for them and I don’t see what the big deal is it’s not like I’m stealing tires and I’m going to have them installed for somebody else . He didn’t advised me that he would honor the member to come in on a walk-in to get the tires installed. Let’s see if he honors his statement. I’ll update when installation takes place.

We visited this location specifically to fill up in the area, $4.99 a gallon Vs nearly every station around them from .30 cents to over a $1.00 MORE a gallon. They helped us get in and out with a trailer in tow, with their fuel truck coming behind us and a PACKED ton of cars across the entire station. The attendant also assisted me with my brand new membership, making it work for us immediately. Well Done!

Comment: Today I had my worst Costco experience. I’ve been coming to this Costco for a few years now but I’ve never felt so small and targeted. My boyfriend and I bought $72 worth of merchandise and went through a self-checkout. He was excited to buy himself a new raiders hat because he’s a big fan and we also got some food. On the way out, the lady at the exit checked our receipt and marked it with a marker and we were free to go. That is until we were stopped the moment we put our foot outside. The people from loss prevention stopped us and asked to see our receipt. We complied because we were confused but it turned out we forgot to pay for the raiders hat. We were careless and forgot to scan a small item (~$14) and wanted to go back and pay for it. But instead the loss prevention people treated us like criminals. They admitted to watching us the entire time yet no one told us that we forgot to scan the item. Even the lady at the exit didn’t notice. They took us to the office and made him sign trespassing warning banning him from Costco and taking away his Costco membership. Mind you, he has paid for the entire year already and he doesn’t get any refund. We asked them about it specifically, and one of them made a remark saying “they’ll steal it from us”. Extremely unprofessional behavior. Kept interrupting us while we were trying to explain that it was an honest mistake. Both of us are full time students and part time workers. We work hard to buy the things we want and this was an honest mistake. We also wanted to get gas on the way out but his membership was confiscated so we couldn’t. Extremely disappointed by this unprofessional behavior.

Comment: Today I went to this Costco that I have been going to for the few years Ive been in college. I purchased 72 dollars worth of merchandise and accidentally forgot to scan a hat. The lady at the exit didnt even notice it and marked our receipt. As we were exiting, we were stopped by 5 men accusing us of stealing and trying to hide it. They took my gf and I into the office and threatened to call police FOR A FOURTEEN DOLLAR HAT THAT WE FORGOT TO PAY FOR. There were about 8-9 staff members in the office, 4 of them were speaking to us in an extremely unprofessional and demeaning way, laughing at our faces and making fun of our honest mistake. We tried to explain that this was a mistake and we were willing to pay, however, they kept interrupting us and accusing us of lying. We were so intimated and overwhelmed by the staff that I felt forced to sign a trespassing warning and now I am forever banned from any Costco premises. They took my membership card and when we asked whether we could get a refund for the remainder of the executive membership, they made a remark saying no, were going to steal that from you and laughed. This is extremely disrespectful, inappropriate and unprofessional behavior from staff and even though we are the young college students, we acted more mature in this situation than the staff members. Extremely disappointed and insulted with this interaction and the way this situation was handled.If you are a young student, be cautious of the potential of being targeted when doing self-checkout, they target us and are very rude and disrespectful.

Comment: I (usually) love Costco. I’ve been to locations all over the country, and this is the worst one. One example: I just brought home a pizza and there was zero sauce on it. Not one drop. And because it was missing the sauce, it cooked all wrong and was hard and chewy like leather.I don’t see how it’s possible to do that by accident. You would notice that there’s no red at all on the dough. So they must have done it on purpose. They must be purposefully messing with their customers for fun. Either that, or they’re so drugged out they don’t notice they only put cheese on dough? My three year old literally does a better job making pizza out of Play Doh.I called the store and nobody cared. Because this is typical. This is how they run their store. I went back to Costco to fix this problem. Costco employees at the Hearing Aid Center refused to do anything about this problem. They were rude too.I should have bought the hearing aid online as a Over the Counter product for a much better price and a better quality.Stay away from Costco Hearing Aid Centers and Phillips products at a price close to $2000. Comment: TLDR: Checkout is efficient, store is organized and clean and so are the bathrooms. Find a place to park, get in, get stuff, checkout, get pizza and go home.This is a Costco. There are many like it, but this one is...not mine...its in Berkley CA. Like other well established consumer brands with longstanding commitments to providing a consistent and quality experience, it would need to try hard to screw up the formula and this one is very much on-par with my expectations. 4 star is because this is a big brand store and while there was no bad experience, there was nothing to make it stand out either. If we visit more CA Costco locations I may update this as u will have a better comparison.

The most convenient aspects of this location is for those of dog owners as it’s right next to Point Isabel dog park - which allows you to knock off multiple items on your list such as dog walking and picking up your pets medicine at the Costco Pharmacy.The only gripe I have about this location is that they have a separate door for merchandise returns that for some odd reason is always locked when I visit, forcing you to maneuver through the many shoppers exiting the store.

Comment: I rented a car through Costco and I’ve called several times to share my frustration with the rental process and their wait times have been terribly long. I’ve spoken with Budget 4 separate times about my rental extension, and each time I’ve been given a different answer and different instructions on how to proceed. I finally learned today that Budget did not send an email, which they are supposed to do several days in advance, to initiate the extension. Because of their mistake, I’m now responsible for finding a location and doing what should have been done virtually. I find that to be negligent of Budget and I’m also not interested in renting with them or with Costco in the future nor will I let anyone I care for rent with them. I will be making a formal complaint and I will also be sharing my experience on several other platforms.

After we finished shopping we found our way to a cashier line which had only one person ahead of us. He chose to ignore us and walked away.After we paid, we went to the front desk asking to speak to a person and file a complaint. Then a person came and introduced himself as (Greg) and said that he’s the manager. He apologized and offered us $25 gift card!!!!! How inconsiderate that was!!We explained to him that we don’t need the money, and that we’d like to file an official complain about this person. We didn’t want anyone to go through this unpleasant situation. Especially when the individual who attacked my partner was carrying on his job normally as if he didn’t just attack a customer.Finally Greg claimed that he’ll look into it and there’s nothing more we can do, and he’d call my partner back to inform him of what’s been done.After a few hours, we get a call from Greg saying that when they looked at the camera they couldn’t see that the worker pushed the cart on my partner. And the only mistake committed was that he touched the cart without permission. And they’ll train the worker to use his words in the future.The follow up call was more disturbing than the act itself. It left us so confused.This is a warning to all people who go into that warehouse. I forgot my card in the card to which he immediately began giving me an attitude. The guy who had originally boxed my stuff tried putting my things back in the boxes for me, to which Hector stopped him and tried whispering “he can do it himself.” That type of nasty energy ruined my entire Sunday morning. Not a pleasant employee at all. If one minor inconvenience causes you to produce an attitude like that, than you should not be working in customer service. Comment: I’ve been going to this Costco since the prior building was constructed. I have also visited several Costcos in other areas (Utah, rural CA, Oregon, San Ramon CA—when I simply could not bear going to Richmond Costco), and this persists as the worst Costco I have gone to. The big problem is that the shoppers exceed the capacity of the space. And the best solution would be to open another Costco, say near the Highway 80/4 junction or Pinole. A temporary solution could be to keep it open to 11pm—I would go at 8 or 9pm to evade the nasty crush. There’s no parking half the time (I refuse to circle the lots multiple times), long lines inside, difficulty maneuvering g shopping carts, and, worst of all, people often become frustrated and it’s all too stressful. Add Costco’s practice of moving things around and an absence of staff to ask where things are (they often run out of stock too), and you can quickly lose your mind. The staff who work there are exceptionally kind and patient—more so than I (and I’m considered a patient, kind person). I hate seeing them working in such awful and stressful conditions. It’s way overdue for Costco’s management to open another Costco, and make even more money, but without torturing customers and staff alike!

Comment: Costco often has the lowest price for gasoline in the area. It also has low prices for the items in the store but not always the lowest anywhere. Recently I discovered their self-service checkout which can save a lot of time if the cashiers lines are long. If you dont spend above a certain threshold you might not save enough to cover the $60 annual membership fee, and often items for sale are bundled, so that if you live alone or dont have space for storing extra food items you might not benefit as much as a large family might. Two of the most loved items at the store are their frequent free food samples and their $5.00 roasted chickens!

Especially Saturday at 9am (when they open).The good:- The store has on-site gas which is great during this time of increased prices.- There is a dedicated vegetable cooler room as well as a dairy room, not sure if this is a real benefit or not but other Costcos dont always have this.- The location is right off the highwayThe bad:- Traffic, which I know its Costco but there is a lot of traffic getting in and out and around. I can tell you the parking lot on a Saturday morning at opening is 80% full, just crazy.- Doesnt carry what other Costcos in the area have...namely the Kirkland brand Italian Sparkling water. This point might not apply to everyone, but it felt personal to me.- The food court doesnt have a self serve option for paying.- The food court also has the cashier window facing the regular paying cashiers which means the line ends up long and in the way of getting out.All in all might not be worth coming if you hate crowds.

The employees were kind, but the self serve food pay station definitely needs a dedicated attendant to keep traffic flowing and folks from cutting, intentionally and unintentionally. Comment: I dont know what the deal is with this place I dont even understand where the attraction is I used to be a member about 20 years ago but quit then because it was so crowded every time you went not to mention the fact that you have to pay and use all this extra plastic packaging which ends up in our environment and secondly if you go to a regular grocery store and buy things on sale its about the same price and you dont have to pay an annual fee to shop you there! Comment: Worst experience ever! The employee named Margie at the entrance was so rude, and made a huge scene against our mini poodle that we had placed in the cart basked on top of our jackets, since Costco employees doesnt clean the carts. This woman shouldve simply said that they didnt allow dogs, and that wouldve been it but instead she said that she was allergic and our doggie was scratching her fur all over the place! When I tried to read her name tag she was hiding behind other two employees, so I tried to take a picture and she started yelling call the police ... So, I approached them and showed them that I was deleting the pictures and just wanted her name, to which she screamed once again, M-A-R-G-I-E. Mind you my daughter and our puppy were waiting outside when I went into the store and talked to the supervisor, Ricardo, who apologized for no having a straight forward answer of why sometimes they bend the rules and allowed dogs. I would like to thank Ricardo for listening and his apologize for this incident.

Comment: Generally well-managed. Crowds and lines are usually not too bad, and most shoppers are courteous. Everything tends to be kept neat and clean. Checkout is usually quick. The location is convenient if driving but parking and particularly pedestrian access tends to be a hassle. With AC Transit cutbacks, the neatest bus stop is more than a mile away, so for many this would require a car trip.

Some signs will tell you if you can only grab 1 (eggs), some say no returns of purchased (rice, sanitation supplies, paper products). Went at 2 PM on Monday, there was no line and a few things out of stock (bulk eggs, paper products, etc.). Staff was very attentive and ensuring great sanitary practice. Comment: Arrived at Richmond CA Costco at 7:55 today for first day of Senior Shopping Hour between 8 & 9. Longer line than I expected! Employees had line under control and got us inside pretty quickly. Given a wipe at the door to clean the cart handle and my hands. Once inside about the same crowd as a regular Costco day. Even scored some toilet paper, but they were all out of it by 8:55 when I left. Limited to one package per person. Well stocked with most items. All registers open and most had no line behind the person being checked out. Thanked every employee I passed by and each was appreciative of the acknowledgement that they were all working hard. All in all, a smooth shopping experience, considering the circumstances and the line to get in.

The workers working on the floor can rude and will ignore you if you need help and if you happen to ask ‘where can i find (something)?’they will say anything like there’s none. Lines were moving pretty quickly, and they had all the registers working. Prices seemed pretty good, but you have to do some checking on the better values. I sometimes go to the San Leandro Costco for a bigger selection but it’s much more crowded there. So we mostly go this Richmond Costco which is conveniently close to our house.Parking us crowded especially on weekends but if you go when they open or near closing time, it’s very easy to park and shop time wise.We also come here for the less expensive gas and the lines move pretty fast.

Theyre $4.99 rotisserie chickens and dollar fifty for hot dog and Coke cant be beat. Checkout lines are often very long and impossible during the holiday season. Parking is tight also. Store is clean. As typical with Costco there is little or no customer service. Their pharmacy and optical pricing are very competitive. Lots of free food samples at the end of each isle. The annual membership fee is worth it if you use the store more than occasionally or share the card with a friend or are a small businesses. Super friendly return policy. televisions and electronics are very competitively priced. Not worth your time if youre only picking up one or two items. Good prices on both national brands and Costcos in House Kirkland brand. Best gasoline prices in the area.

Services are acceptable most of the time and good some of the time. I have purchased 5 pairs of glasses and sun glasses here and all of them were good quality. The selection here is decent. Comment: Beside the general awesomeness that Costco has going for itself consistently, I will just review this location specifically. The staff here are almost always wonderful to work with (of course youll eventually run into someone whos having a bad day), but always very polite.The concession food area is generally clean, but considering the foot traffic of that area, its hard to maintain every single minute, so bring a few napkins to wipe the table if you plan on sitting down to eat. The staff at the concessions are also very efficient and quick, so waiting in a long line shouldnt deter you from getting any food because youll be up there quicker than you may think.The bathrooms are clean and well maintained for such a high traffic location.The selection here is amazing, with special seasonal items offered too, so look out for those because they may be hidden in between the larger always in-stock items.The only downside to this location is the fact that there arent many sample stands as the San Leandro location. Unfortunately, there are only a few samples going on and even at its max, its not as many as the SL locations usual offer. As a vegetarian, it doesnt even matter because its usually something I cannot eat, but for those omnivores, its not as fun as trying out all the samples at the SL location.Regardless, I highly recommend this location for food, gasoline, groceries, and basically everything offered by Costco. Keep a lookout for special seasonal items!
