“The workers were competent, prompt and very friendly.”​“​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We had a screened-in three season porch that we wanted to convert to a four season porch.We contacted Roger at Custom Upgrades for a quote to replace the screen with glass, insulate above and below the porch, add electrical outlets, paint the interior of the room, install carpeting and add a heat source.We couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The workers were competent, prompt and very friendly.We already have another project to do and we will not hesitate to contract with Custom Upgrades to do the work.”

They ruin as much as they fix. Not 1 employee has worked for them over 1 year. They quoted 5 weeks to finish (I bent over backwards to allow them to work anytime they wanted) after additional repairs came up but it took several months past quoted date. I had to go do some work to help catch up. Doors falling off the tracks (4 of them) and one fell onto my daughter!They installed part of my flooring before realize it wasnt even the same flooring boxes. Had to completely remove and redo.Did a vanity on the top floor and didnt do it correctly, water filled my ceiling on the main floor and it doesnt look right to this day.Installed my dishwasher wrong and ruined my new floor for the second time. None of the employees have good things to say.I used them because home advisor gave good reviews but Rogers employees all have told me he pays people for the reviews. You cant pay me enough to lie.Carpet is coming apart (replaced entire flooring in house). Cant reach him. Tried text, cell, email. They ruined my lawn and said they would fix it but 7 months later Im paying another company to fix it.Theres more but I think this is enough to warn whoever reads this to be careful. Employees are nice but ask their opinion and theyll confirm what I am typing.Roger is nice to talk to, I want to like him but I cant leave a good review. Its just been a horrible experience and its ongoing.

Custom Upgrades and its owner have been a pleasure to work with. The team has done several renovations for us on time and in budget. They are currently adding a wrap around covered porch and will be doing a large addition in the spring. The whole team has been great to work with!

The owner of this company has no scruples or morals. He is very charming and talks a great game but then again, that is what charlatans do.I paid in full Roger Kingma to remodel a property that I own at 923 Fulton NW, GR. He never installed the air conditioning that was on the contracxt.He started the remodel project in December 2016 and was told that the project would be completed by July 1, 2016 (6 months). He did not complete until April, 2017. We met in late April to review what had finally been completed and I paid him the balance due. After my son moved in on June 1st we thought the workmanship was below par but every thing was working okay.In early June my son called to ask how to turn on the air conditioning. It wasnt working so I had him call the HVAC contractor whose sticker was on the furnace. The HVAC guy said that there was no air conditioning unit install in the house. He said that he had a payment issue with Mr. Kingma (general contractor) and was told by him to not put in the air conditioner now but later when he had more money. Mr Kingma never had him put it in and ended up owing the HVAC guy money for other work. He HVAC contractor told my son that he was going to take Mr Kingma to court to get paid for other jobs that he had not been paid for.I spoke with Mr Kingma via text on June 11 and he said it was an over sight and that he would get it taken care of right away. I texted him again on June 14 and his response was working on it. I texted again on June 19, 22 with no response. On July 7 I texted again using very strong language and he responded that the guy had not gotten back to him because of the holiday and that her will contact him right away.July 17 no response to my text. I then went on vacation for the last week of July and first week of August. Called today and got voice mail that said texting would be faster way to reach him. Texted him, no response.

Roger and his team did a great job updating my house in East Grand Rapids. I will definitely recommend Custom Upgrades to my friends and family!

Worse experience, they walked off the job with a 2x3 hole in the wall and leaking plumbing and refuse to fix it. Dont get taken advantage of by the will beat anyone elses quote by 10% because youll be paying for the job to be redone.
