Comment: We had trouble figuring out the map and trails and really wish they were easier to follow. We were not able to enjoy the trails as much as we could have if we had been able to figure out which way to go. We were warned of this by those who told us about the lake, so we dont think its just us. Otherwise, its an absolutely beautiful place to spend the day exploring, hiking, picnicking, fishing, birdwatching and so on! Be sure to wear very sturdy shoes in case you end up on the bumpy trails like we did (tried to avoid them but werent successful). The birds, fauna (wildlife) and flora here were amazing. Plenty of porta-jons and rest rooms.

Comment: One of my favorite places to hike in the San Diego area. Mostly a local haunt, so it’s not too crowded. Porta potty at parking lot. Dog friendly. Nice variety of trails. Definitely a good workout with a lot of steep ups and downs, but beautiful views of the lake and city in the distance.

A little confusing if its your first time, I asked someone that goes there regularly how to get to the lake and stuff because the map was confusing for me, other than that nice drive, nice place, it does get super hot in the summer and when I went there was a bunch of dog poops along the trail so yes flies, hopefully its not like that next time I go and people are more careful and pick up their trash. Places like this are a privilege to have lets help keep nature clean 🌱🙏❤

Comment: Large park with rangers post and many facilities. Free parking lot. Only if you drive to Lake Dixon and pass rangers post, you need to pay entrance. In weekends only I believe. Check their siteDaley Ranch itself has trails connecting to the lake (southeast) but mostly leading north direction.The times Ive been here, it was hot, sunny and dry. Last time I went was a few weeks after a very rainy Winter and the trails had been heavily impacted.Normally the trail in the center leading to the ranch house and restrooms is wide and spacious Stroller friendly. Now (March 2023) it was blocked off after being deluged by mud. Lots of creeks to cross. Normally just barely 1.There are multiple ponds, routes and view points.Altho it looks to be busy, once you venture more northeast, youll be mostly by yourself. There are coyotes and rattlesnakes here, so be cautious.Pack plenty of water and sunscreen.Definitely challenging trails and at times more mountain bike friendly than for hikers.

Comment: This place is beautiful and the hiking is great. You need to bring water and good shoes to hike in. You can go as far as you want . You could do 20 miles if you wanted. There is a bathroom in the parking lot and it’s very popular so come early. It’s cold in the winter and hot in the summer time. It’s beautiful and totally worth the drive.

Comment: This is a awesome place to hike,bike or ride a horse. You can pick and choose how long your hike will be 1/2 hour to most of the day. The views are awesome there are 3 or 4 lakes old barns, houses and the ranch house. Great place to bring the family and your dog as it is dog friendly area there are a few places with water and a bowl for them make a day of it there are picnic tables and rest rooms. There even a black top road to get to ranch house and picnic tables to walk on and push your stroller it is up hill most of the way.

Comment: Nature is always great and this lake is very cool. You gotta pay to park and there’s lots of shore fishing and parties in the park. A little trail that runs around per of the lake. Sometimes the water looks turquoise but didn’t look that way when I was there. It could use a little restoration and trail development but still a nice place to find yourself out of all the other options on earth.

Comment: A paved road can lead you up and over a few hills to help get your heart rate up. For the more adventurous there are dirt trails that can be a relatively short walk or a much longer 10+ mile hike. I love this trail system because even on the busiest days, you can find areas of the park that are full of solitude and beautiful views. I’ve seen deer, coyotes and rabbits. It’s a local gem.

Dogs permitted on leash but not near lake or docks where there are water fowl. Several secluded areas make it great for groups! Love this lake! Across street you can park and mountain bike up to Dailey Ranch which has trails for novice thru advanced.

Comment: Lots of trails, about 20 miles worth but make sure you get a map. Which are available. Good mountain biking with polite riders. Three entry places. Parking can be problematic. I dont consider that being all that bad as it keeps down over use. Water stations in the park. It can be hot and exposed in the summer. If you bring you dog make sure the pupper is in shape and has LOTS of water.

Comment: This place is a wonderful place to get out and recreate on the trails. My one issue is not with the park itself, but the lack of courtesy of many dog owners who use the area to exercise with their four-legged companions. Though there are many doggy poop bag stations scattered throughout the park, loads of inconsiderate people just leave their dogs excrement in the middle of the trail for bikers to ride through or hikers/runners to step on. In 7 miles of walking, I came across more than 20 piles of dog poop on the trail. So, if there were a way to correct the actions of those few folks, Id really love and enjoy this place much more often. Pro-tip: if youre using the La Honda entrance, get there early or parking will be a nightmare.

Trails are... if you enjoy staying in touch with nature, but dont like nature to touch you i would recommend you to stay away from the tails along the lake. There are several trails that are cleaned and well maintained. Others not so much. Its a beginers/intermedium park. Overall, its an ejoyable place to take a walk for the whole family.

Sage trail turns shady hear the Ranch House just when you need the shade. Benches line the trail at nice places with little lakes and great views. We use this beautiful preserve as our training grounds for our hikes.As you can see in the photos and video, this place is packed with animal life. there are a lot of blacktop trails for the entire family to walk as well as singletrack trails for the more adventurous hikers and mountain bikers. Comment: It was wonderful. Clear blue sunny sky. Streams with bubbling water? Ruts a bit rough and deeper in places on trail. Gorgeous lilacs throughout. All ages afoot with children, their pets or on bikes enjoying nature and fresh air. So fortunate to have.Love it!!

Comment: I love Lake Dixon. Its a staple family get away for Escondido locals and a fun campground for both visitors and San Diego resodents. Excellent fishing, a great park with large playgrounds next to the lake, tons of scenic trails for all levels...from a casual after dinner walk to steep trails with some rock manuvering. My mom spent 4 weeks here while she was doing extensive traveling in her RV. Very pleased with the RV spots, which almost all having beautiful sunset or sunrise views. During the summer they provide family nights like movies under the stars, games and fishing competitions. Fun place in the mountains, 15 minutes from the convenience of Escondido.

Comment: Look at the map when coming to see what trails are which difficultu3 if you are not accustomed to harder hikes. It was fun and had lovely views... The short loop we did was a combination of hard and medium with amazing views, but not the most comfortable with a baby in a baby backpack. Not really good for strollers given some of the steaper hills.

Comment: Nice area for just about every activity! Theres areas for fishing, BBQ, hiking trails, parks for kids to play, and quiet areas to sit and relax. The weekends are usually packed with people. The weedays are the best time to go. Also, the park rangers usually charge $5 to get into the main Park area. During the weekdays Ive been able to drive on for free multiple times.

Comment: Love hiking here! So many different trails to choose from, and it is easy to get to. Trail maps available at the trail head. Has actual bathrooms available at Lake Dixon adjacent to the parking lot. Dog friendly, with dog waste stations available throughout the ranch.
