Great company, love their jeans. The jeans are very well made - very happy to give business to a company that assembles jeans in the US with US made raw materials.

I came to Detroit Denim Co to get a pair of jeans hemmed. I dropped the jeans off early August and was quoted a two week turnaround time. Most places quote two weeks but get it finished sooner (I get it, Underpromise, overdeliver). 2 weeks come, I hear nothing from them. Week 3, I sent a message on Facebook and emailed them and said they were out of the office and would reply the next day (Sep 2). No reply back on Facebook and only an email saying the jeans were finished (Sep 3). Got an invoice and paid on Sep 4. Got notified my jeans were shipped Sep 10 nearly a week later from payment to shipment which makes no sense. Received jeans Sep 14. Nearly 5 weeks later from start to finish. I could have shipped these jeans out to another store on either coast and have them returned sooner than the actual 5 weeks to go get a pair of jeans hemmed only 30 mins from home. Also, no apologies ever from anyone at anytime. This is a joke and poor customer service.

These are the best jeans that Ive ever owned - they are comfortable and fit like theyre custom made. I get complements on them all the time, I wear them regularly (and I dont usually wear jeans).Ive begun to learn that investing in good, handmade clothing that fits well is worth every penny over spending less on clothes that dont. The staff here are incredibly friendly, hardworking, and helpful, and I would tenfold recommend their products to everyone!

I had a great experience at the Detroit Denim Company! It was so much fun trying on their various fits in jean styles. All of the jeans are custom hemmed within minutes right in the store. So if you’ve ever had issues finding the perfect length, this is the place for you! They can also bring the taper of the legs in, etc. so you’ll essentially get a custom fit that’s perfect for you! I love the look of their jeans and the dark blue denim can be dressed up for any occasion. Sure, the jeans are more expensive than your average Levi - but its totally worth it for the customization and the “Made in America” design. The materials are also sourced in America. I’ve gone through several $50 pairs of jeans without finding the perfect fit. Even though these are more expensive, I know they’ll last a lifetime. They are truly quality jeans! So happy I stopped in, definitely give their jeans a try!

I ordered a pair of the womens Cone Mill in the slim cut. The pluses first - nice weight fabric, beautiful stitching. The cut really isnt particularly slim in the legs, and theres really no stretch even though they are marked as such. Also, they were hemmed an inch longer than I requested. Might I suggest you add petite cuts and rises to your jean line? And downsize the back pockets on the smaller sizes - they were an inch bigger than pockets on other jeans I own and extend to an unflattering length.Keep in mind I purchased these on clearance without ever trying on so no fault on Detroit Denim. Id like to think an in-store experience would have different results.

Update: It is understandable that a business may choose to close for a holiday. How about a good old fashioned sign on the door next time?I heard of this company during my stay at Mission Point, Mackinac Island. They made very high quality pillow covers for the resort, so I thought it would be a good stop to check out their apparel. So do the jeans live up to the hype?I suppose well never know. I waited over 10 minutes past their opening time on Saturday, July 6th. Doors were locked. Phone went unanswered. Its not every day someone goes out of their way to buy a $200 pair of jeans, so I guess they dont need my money (or yours).

Wonderful Jean buying experience. They had just moved to their new location when I visited, much of the shop was still a construction site for their new showroom but the part where they make the jeans is back up and running. Tried on a few different sizes and cuts and quickly found one that I loved. They tailored the length while I wondered around and the workshop. Very cool local shop, would highly recommend a visit!

This is one of the few reviews I have written but I have felt compelled by my experience at this store to put one down. The store is beautiful - it is very rustic and modern at the same time. But the issue I have is with the service. I went there for my first time 2 months ago and was received with in a very nonchalant manner, but that did not really bother me - as long as I got my pants tailored well and in a timely manner I would be happy. I tell him what I want done and he estimates 3 weeks, possibly sooner, and that I would get a call when I should come in. That was long for my liking, but as long as it was good, I was not pressed about 3 weeks. But I asked him, at the most 3 weeks? And he said yes. 4 weeks later I have not received a call. 5 weeks, I decide to walk in and just pick them up because I needed to wear them for an event. I ask the worker if my pants were ready and he tells me that the tailor just started them 2 days ago, but hadnt finished them. Mind you, I just wanted the legs tapered an inch and a half. So the worker takes my pants to the back for the tailor to finish it and I wait 15 minuted or so until they are ready. He brings out my pants and apologizes and then takes $8 off of the total for my time waiting. At this point I just wanted my pants and get to a lunch meeting that I had. I appreciate the fact that he took some money off, but the timeliness of this store is not good if you need a product done. You can pay extra for a rush order, but if you just want something altered without a direct timeline, I would suggest going somewhere else. They take on a lot of alteration projects, visible from the back of the store, and I dont know if they push regulars to the front or if thats just the way their system works, but it should not take that long. The store is nice, but the timeliness and service need improvement.

*****UPDATE: I went back to the store to pick up our jeans yesterday. I had a really nice, friendly conversation with Brenna (curly hair). Chelsea (the cashier referenced below) came up, shook my hand, and apologized for letting me down during the visit referenced below. She brought up all the points I made in the review and I could tell she was sincerely sorry for how she came off to us that day. I left Detroit Denim feeling like the issue was resolved and that I was a valued customer. This is the kind of service I expect from an expensive clothing store :) Thank you to Brenna and Chelsea!*****Ive got mixed feelings about Detroit Denim. On one hand, they undoubtedly have amazing, high-quality handmade products with U.S.-sourced denim - which I LOVE! I try to support local businesses, and Detroit Denim is no exception. I was able to find a perfect pair of jeans and a jacket during their recent sample sale. I felt like I got a great deal and was provided excellent one-on-one attention from the female staff member with dark curly hair (she even went in the back and put buttons on the jean jacket for me!)However, Im disappointed in one staff member in particular - she has been running the cash register the last few weekends. The day of the sample sale, my husband dropped off his APCs for repair, knowing it would be 2-3 weeks (he had gotten them repaired a year or two ago here too). My brand new jeans had to be hemmed and since we live about 45 minutes away, we asked if we could just have my jeans shipped with his after both were done. Then, this past weekend, my in-laws were in town visiting from out of state and we decided to take a day trip to Detroit. We were in the neighborhood heading to a bar around the corner so we decided to just stop in Detroit Denim and show them the store (we had been raving about it), and just see if my jeans happened to be hemmed yet. We walked in and I explained to the staff member working the register that we were in the area and just thought wed see if my jeans were hemmed yet. As she began walking to the back to check, she snapped Well did you get a call that they were done? No, as I said, we were just in the area and thought Id check. And she continued to be quite snippy, saying We tell people it will be 2-3 weeks. Right, I was asking about the jeans requiring a hem, not the APC repair.Without detailing the rest of the conversation with her, she overall made me feel like asking her was a complete waste of her time and that I should never have stopped in. Again, I brought in my in-laws (AKA, potential customers), who were actually interested in a sweatshirt but decided against buying it after my experience with this particular staff member. The only thing that saved the visit was the woman with dark curly hair. She recognized us from the weekend before, said hi and that it was great to see us again. We told her we just stopped in to look around and see if my jeans were hemmed yet. She very politely told us they were working through all the jeans purchased in the sale as quickly as they could and that theyd be done soon. This was all the other woman had to say - that they had a long list of jeans to hem and were working through them.I just found this trip to be quite off-putting. In a high-end clothing store, I expect amazing service, and the cashier doesnt provide that. She unfortunately reminded us of a male worker that used to work there a year or two ago when my husband brought in his APCs for their first repair. He had a similar snooty attitude and was quite unhelpful. The repair actually took around 6 weeks I believe, which was insanely too long. He was not polite throughout the process of emailing/calling to check on the jeans. In the end, they did refund the shipping charge, part of the repair, and apologized - so we felt okay coming back for the 2nd repair.I hope this is helpful to potential customers out there. Great products and very cool store, but avoid the worker at the register!
