This is a big, nice airport that I’ve flown into on several occasions. It is fine if Detroit is your destination. However, this would not be my 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice for a layover. The planes usually taxi on the runway for extended periods upon landing. I once stayed on the runway for 45 minutes and missed my flight. Also, you’ll likely have a long walk if your connecting flight is in a different terminal. Just make sure that you have enough time in between flights. There are plenty of eating and shopping choices that will keep you occupied. BTW, the lighted tunnel is awesome!
Worst airport ever. At 9:15 pm all the restaurants on the airport are closed. They call it a MAJOR INTERNATIONAL airport yet they expect us to be hungry at night? Even the Starbucks closed. Will airport authority respond and take actions against this rule?I saw tens of other hungry passengers and crew member walking like a zombie for some food.Really disgusting DTW.
Simple enough to navigate. Clean all-over and had comfy seats. I really liked the art from the museum throughout the airport. This is the only airport where I have ever seen the left luggage, clothing or personal items we are warned to watch out for... And there were a lot of them, I spotted 5 unattended personal items, 2 of which were backpacks. When I reported a left backpack in the ladies restroom to the janitor cleaning the mens restroom, he didnt seem to care, like its an everyday occurrence. And I sat and waited to see if someone would go on and check on it, it was over 10 minutes before the lady janitor came and I dont think she came for the backpack. Odd.
You must do some assessing of the distance from your exit gate to connecting flight gate. Then you may choose to ride a monorail that’s much faster to transport you with a luggage which runs every 4 minutes either direction.Even though looking at the map of the linear design of McNamara terminal (simpler). One can’t easily assess the actual distance on foot unless you’re a frequent traveler using this particular airport.I’ve been to this airport for only for connecting flights for 4-5 times in the past. Each time, I’m rather surprised to find out how long it takes to walk from one gate to the other on foot. There are 5-7 strategically placed moving walkways at the entire length of the McNamara terminal.Great for physically well fitted passengers to just stride to a next gate. If you’re not in shape, it’s better to study a map to assess which stop to catch the monorail and where to get off. Every 4 minutes the tram will arrive. Many elderly and handicapped passengers are being pushed on a wheelchair by the airport employees during our layover. This is a well designed Delta hub for a connecting flight. MSP & DTW are the best in my experiences. There are 2 sections of McNamara terminal (the newer section is with red Tram and older section seems to have no tram). The both terminals are connected by a long underground tunnel with moving walkways. The tunnel is obviously not visible from the terminal windows, so I could tell passengers are often confused where to approach terminal A to B.I wished there’s a 3D See-Thru representation drawing of the entire airport next to the 2D maps with gate numbers. That will give many folks to understand quickly the layout & connection of two separate terminals.
(CONNECTING/MCNAMARA TERMINAL) - One of the best airports Ive been to in the US. It is very clean and very wide, with more than enough room to walk and seating for everyone. Also super connected with the DTW rail car above shuttling you down the straight concourse to various points.
One of the best airports I have been to. There are so many choices for coffee, snacks and meals. I didn’t have to wander too far before I found something I liked. I’ve been to other airports that have no maps to help you find your flight or directions, but this airport was so much better. They also had so many seats available, no overcrowding or wandering, looking for a seat. I am glad this wonderful airport is local for me!
This is by far our favorite airport, the color tunnel is the best! The food is outstanding at many of the restaurants and there is even a great massage place. I love the staff at the Body Shop and many of the other great little shops. The Delta employees go out of their way to be kind, courteous and caring. I am so glad I get to travel through this airport on a regular basis. I dont have any airport pictures, but here is a classic shot of Michigan.
Detroit was a connection airport for me so I didnt check in or out. And therefore didnt see most of the airport... But I did go through the connection tunnel. And it was great! I nice bit of peace, and relaxing! To bad I cant add the video I took... but suffice it to say, they had relaxing music with an accompanying changing lights.
The Delta terminal is delightful. The moving walks are a necessity and so helpful. Its a long walk from gate to gate and terminal to terminal. The light show in the tunnel is stunning. A great variety of restaurants to choose from. Breakfast time is the best time of day to eat at most of the restaurants. Definitely one of my favorite airports to pass through.
I have flown through DTW two times. The tram system that travels through the terminals are really cool. There’s plenty of moving walkways. The selection of stores and amenities is high quality. Such good airport, such good service. It was packed, but we made it through. It’s my favorite airport to fly through because of how easy it is to walk.
The facility is clean and looks good but I had the most horrible experience at the United counter and the TSA.The United kiosks were not working and there were just 4 staff there which just 1.5! was working and the rest were just walking around! The security staff were not helpful, I have a TSA approved backpack and they wanted everything out!!!! No matter you have a toddler or youre just an adult, they wanted to search everything even things which was obviously not a threat.
Pretty decent international Airport. They have a great system when it comes to entering the country. Not like others. Lines get pretty long, so make sure your have atleast a 2 hour layover when entering. Some couple didnt make thier flight cause of bad planning. Just because an airline lets you book a 30 min layover, and you have customs to deal with, doesnt mean its a great idea. Food selection could be a little better placed. Decent amount of choices, they are just grouped at the end of the terminals. Over all, a pretty good experience of 12 hours in this airport.
We missed the bus to downtown Detroit and had to wait 30min, because of misleading signs and wrong directions given by the airport staff. Follow the directions below in order to avoid the same mistake. If you want to take the City Bus (261 to Detroit), do not trust the signage at the airport. The signs to ground transportation including a bus icon are not what you want. There are seperate signs leading to Municipal Transportation, but they end at nowhere. When taking the bus from the Delta / McNamara Terminal go all the way up to Floor 3 / International Check-in. Head north to the last door (door 1) and the city bus stop is right there. Its quite slow (about an hour to downtown), but dirt cheap ($2).
Nice airport. Very well designed airport. Security and check in extremely quick for such a big airport....if you are flying delta then this is the airport to go through. Even during winter months they keep flights moving quickly so the delays are not that long. A lot better than other delta hubs....food is a little lacking but other than that nothing else to complain mmm
Its hard to judge this place. Overall, a very nice place. My time there was terrible. Not, I believe, any fault of anyone there. It seems like most airlines were experiencing very long delays due to weather issues. My family and I ended up having to wait for over 10 hours for our flight. In addition, our original flight was postponed four times and moved from one gate to another.A plus was that they did give us meal vouchers which was appreciated but did not minimize the extreme long wait time.
I want to give 2.5 stars since the staff at the ticket counter and the airline staff offering assistance for boarding and deporting were very helpful. However, TSA security assistance for people with disabilities needs massive improvement.we arrived at the airport 2 hrs or more prior to our departure time and when I reached the security checkpoint assistance took ages. I watched several individuals get pushed around me for assistance while the rest of my party went through without issue. 2 or 3 separate staff members told me I would receive assistance before they actually helped me. There was 0 explanation as to why the process took so long and I will actively do all I can to avoid this airport in the future. Not to mention the restaurants within the airport also need to work on customer service
This airport can be a little dirty depending on when you arrive but overall it is nice because it is big. I have never felt like it was over crowded and the layout is nice. Each airline has its own section. What really makes it standout is the staff. Need help or need to change something? Just ask and you will get helped out. I flew delta last summer and wanted to change to another flight last minute to avoid a long layover and they got me on the flight no extra cost and I got home sooner! I love detroit airport.
Evans Terminal is a nice place with quality stores and restaurants. The construction in the Big Blue Lot has been going on forever and the construction on the roads around it are hard to navigate especially at night and while raining. That said, after flying to visit family and being in multiple airports, I appreciate DIA for its nice terminals.
Here are the pros and cons. Pro, it is a beautiful airport. Pro, you can take the train to the gate. Pro, the staff is friendly and helpful. Con, The restaurant as well as the shops are very expensive. The parking lot is very expensive. So, to save money and time. I would recommend parking off site. Much cheaper and has a shuttle to and from the airport.
Lots of SIGNS not only can you LOOK up to see them but theyre DOWN on the pavement as well! So youre easily pointed in the right direction that you may be going! TSA lines usually are moving pretty fast! Once youre into the airport itself its like a MALL WITH stores & every fast food restaurant you can think of, plus full service sit down restaurants!! Plenty of enjoyment before your flight takes off!!
My Favorite Airport of Many I stop at for connections. Love the Moving Walkers.Love the Layout and Signage. This Airport is Very Well Maintained with updates in the bathroom and Cell outlets. Very Bright and Very Cleaned. Staff is So Friendly, while TSACould be a little more Considerate.
Not too busy on a late Friday afternoon. Easy layout with one main concourse and a second for smaller planes. The concourses are connected by an underground tunnel with disco lights. Moving sidewalks help reduce steps between gates. Also an indoor train to connect each ends of the main concourse to the center. In concourse A Delta has a centrally located large Sky Club, a second smaller one in the central area, then a small one at each end of the concourse. Also a club as you enter Concourse B. Taxi times are fairly short as the runways are close to the terminal. Parking garage is $26/day. Overall very clean and modern.
This airport is terrible. Im disabled and they took away my cane and wouldnt assist me with getting through the metal detectors in any way. They then decided that they were going to search me without explain the need for it. The woman started giving me a very thorough and uncomfortable pat down before she even asked if it was okay. She swabbed to test my hand for something and didnt even explain why. The woman was super rude, making commentary to me the entire time. Then they confiscated my bag to do a search. They opened my bag and the woman said you have to be kidding me. And proceeded to explain to her coworker that they had flagged my bag as having a dangerous weapon over my lint roller! What a miserable and humiliating experience. It is clear as day that this airport is not very handicap friendly and needs to learn how to be better with people.
This is the fourth time I have travelled through this airport recently. Sadly, my experiences here have gone from bad to, well, terrible. From the TSA to the Delta gate personnel, almost everyone is uncaring to hostile. When travellers visit an airport, it would seem obvious that they might have questions or need assistance. The closest response to helpful that I received today was go look at a directory to find what youre looking for. When I asked where I could find a directory, I was told he was too busy, and just look for one! (Note: he and I were the only two people at the desk). One bright exception: The ladies at PF Changs restaurant were exceptional! Friendly, helpful, efficient, and overall WONDERFUL!Detroit: PLEASE find more service oriented people to staff your airport!!!
Food options are great and not sure why all airports dont have the dump your liquid out but proceed with your empty bottle thru security policy, but its very practical. Why its almost 80 degrees in the airport is a problem along with no arrival signs specifically for Delta. Come on D, lets get it together!
Very inefficient set up for departures. Something as simple as baggage drop off takes 15 minutes or more. There were a dozen agents at drop off, but only half of them were working. One group of 4 was standing at their station laughing and joking around with one another. The other 2 were just standing at their station like zombies. Delta should seriously consider bringing in a Lean Six Sigma person to alleviate the problem. If youre flying out of DTW on Delta, schedule your time accordingly. Budget in an extra 30 minutes to your travel time to account for this ridiculousness.
I loved this airport. I had a fabulous steak dinner at the Longhorn restaurant. I believe Pamela was my waitress she is awesome. There are plenty of places to relax and enjoy yourself while youre waiting for your flight. I am grateful for the massage chair 💺 money well spent.
Traveled during COVID19 as a connection from FL to Toronto and was pleased with safety and sanitization steps taken. Straightforward terminal, but had to walk because the trains are not operating. This was only terminal A which I believe could be mostly international travel, but Im not sure. Very few travelers. Hand sanitizers everywhere and almost everyone was in masks. Most stores are closed, but a few convenience stores and restaurants are open. Mc Donalds and Popeyes are also open, but not the seating. Bathrooms are staffed with dedicated cleaning staff who were constantly cleaning. Before boarding, per Canadian rules, COVID screening was done including temperatures before boarding. Non Canadians, including Americans or other passport holders had to show documentation etc. for reason for travel.
They say when going through a major international airport like this one to come early because the lines will take forever and move slow. However, for all the times I have flown in and out of DTW I have always been met with short lines to airline desk and TSA. It is also a very simplistic and clean airport. Much to eat and drink and prices can be reasonable depending on the store. Not overcrowded during major holidays too. Laid back and chill international airport.
One of the worst big airports i have ever visitted, not even close to Paris, Vienna, Chicago or Shanghai...even Kenyan airports are better. Messy, confusing, full of unnecessary passages and stairs. Rude and untrained staff at both security and private airport services. Half of the facilities are closed. Severely outdated equipment like luggage belts and scanners or escalators. No invention in regards of design (artwork, flowers, sculptures). Really nothing to be rated positively besides that it (so far) works.
Flew with Delta Airlines so of course they drop you off at one gate and you have to walk to the end of earth for your connecting fight. Fortunately this airport does have a tram that gets you to one end to the other in no time. You have to go up the escalator to get to the tram located on the upper floor. Do so immediately if you have a long walk between gates. Unfortunately all the fast foods spots are closed in the delta A gates area, so you’re forced to eat at Gordon Biersch if you dare!! See my GB review cuz that’s a whole different story. Bathrooms looked clean, but didn’t pass the sniff test. I just didn’t touch anything that looked wet. Other then that, the airport is just okay. Nothing fantastic that’s for sure. Side note, the guy playing the piano was really good!! He passed the time very quickly by ringing up some oldies and new music on those keys.
I realize it is a business decision, nevertheless, restaurants in the airport terminal should accommodate late and low traffic; after all, it is our last chance to get a decent meal before getting on the plane. This is especially important for the novelty restaurants that highlight the citys authentic taste. We flew out on a Sunday evening and had to settle for a bags of chips and slim Jims.
I came only for a two-hour layover and I was impressed with the quality of the airport. Everything seems brand new. There wasn’t a lot of traffic when we arrived and we saw plenty of seats close to our gate. The management is doing a great job at handling traffic during a pandemic.
A huge international Airport where everything is extravagant and even the prices of everything is too costly. A little water bottle will cost you $5. A little burger will cost you $15. The place is over charging people. I know all airports over charge but this one is exceptional. I like the service though. The people and staff of the airport are friendly. I was traveling to the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a cool city. They speak both English and Dutch. Lower the price Detroit airport.
Detroit Metro airport has has been a part of everyones life who lives here and we have all watched it grow, change and progress throughout the years. We all know that the old terminal is still old and the new terminal is brand new and fantastic, so I guess you could say Detroit Metro airport offers up a little bit of everything for you well traveling! I hope everybody has a safe flight ❤️❤️
June 2021 update - COVID season in the US. The center-court water fountain is still off. Many restaurants are open, but not all. No Starbucks, but Plum Market has ZINGERMANS -this is an excellent substitute in regards to the bakery options. There are other options, take your time and look. Some construction in the main concourse. The intra-gate train is finally running. Airport is not as busy as in the past, but this is expected. Workers seem less stressed and helpful. Only sit down restaurants require you to scan a bar code and fill out personal information for contact tracing - yea, really.
TSA made a family trip as easy as can be this time around. Still have to mask up while in the airport as well as on the plane. Flying delta makes for drop off and pickup a breeze. If getting picked up ask to be picked up at the Westin or gate 5 so you dont have to fight the arrivals madness. Paying for parking is still a pain, between the decks and off-site lots you are still going to be gambling. Having a Chick-fil-A in the delta terminal makes for an easy meal as they sell 12 packs and bigger of the nuggets.
RUDE. Dont expect ANY services if you have a night layover...dont even expect vending machines to work. I overheard more profanity between TSA agents than in bar. Power and Control is the name of the game... I will find another airport...dont care if I have to pay more or drive hours more...wont do it again. Can you believe...NO COFFEE AVAILABLE BETWEEN 1 and 5:15am.
Fly any airline except delta if you’re coming to this airport. The “help” desk was entirely unhelpful and left me stranded in Detroit late at night with multiple other passengers over a delay due to plane cleaning (aka the airlines fault). The man I spoke to was beyond rude, unhelpful, and must’ve finished his job training the same day or something as he continually raised his voice and spoke over me because I didn’t find a coupon for $5 off a $300 room to be helpful and wasn’t interested in his explanation as to why the airline wasn’t responsible for helping me (but they actually were responsible as I called HQ this morning and they agreed with me). He tried telling me it was due to air control so they didn’t have to help me, but we were told on our previous flight that we were delayed for cleaning for an hour. Absolutely vile behavior and has no place working in customer service. Now I’m stuck waiting a month on a $200 reimbursement for my room because the delta staff was inept. Save yourself the trouble, I’ve never had a worse interaction with somebody that confidently wrong. Traveling is hard enough, there’s no reason to berate your customers over your own inability to do your job correctly.
Went to the airport to pick up a friend, it was total chaos! Parking issues people blocking other individuals arriving, I am so happy that I dont fly and never had the desire to get on an airplane to go anywhere. If I cant travel by my own means of ways to reach the desired destination I planned on going to then Im just not going!
Airport was fine. But be careful where you park your car. I wouldnt recommend parking at the Baymont hotel. They cant accommodate safe parking without getting a parking ticket. We got back a week later to find tickets on our car and at least 5 others bcuz they were forced to park in the fire lane.
Flight delayed by a total of 6 hours due to lack of available pilots, for obvious reasons... Paid for seats, yet ended up getting split up and sat next to random people anyways as a family of 5 with 3 kids under the age of 5.... Spirit ticked our strollers and ended up losing them. Filed a claim, but I doubt either the airport or Spirit are going to take responsibility of their negligence. Im in my 20s and my first ever flight from Detroit Metro to Orlando was a JOKE and I will HAPPILY be driving the 15 - 18 hours next time and spending my ticket money on gas. Better to have a vehicle with you anyways!!!
DTW is a very nice airport. Most of the staff are friendly which is refreshing during the pandemic. You should know there are no restaurants or coffee shops before you go through security- just vending machines on the lowest level. If you’re traveling first thing in the morning you’ll find there aren’t many shops are open before 8am. Getting through TSA security was a breeze - much easier than other airports we’ve been through.
What a really cool tunnel you can walk through that has interactive music with a light show. The Airport is filled with very friendly employees, lots to eat, drink and shop. First time at this location for a long layover. Stopped in a Chili to have some food during a long layover and a bit sticker shock on cost of drinks, other than that it was a spectacular stop here in Detroit. Looking forward to future travels through here.
Unfortunately for my husband and I we were stuck for the night in the airport on February 18th 2022. We were flying Delta and our flight came up with changes seven times between 10:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. . It was bad enough to have to spend the night uncomfortable and awake in this airport but the fact that I swear this airport had absolutely no heat!! I was dressed in a sweater long pants and a winter coat and there was no way that I could take that coat off I shook literally the entire night! When we finally flew out of Detroit into Syracuse that was the first time I felt any warmth! I have never spent such a miserable night in my life!
Worst airport got told my carry on bag is fine went through security then right before I got on the plane I had to pay and extra $60 because my bag was too big. So I pay the extra $60 then they don’t even take my bag and I have to ride with it on my lap. Spirt and dte is the biggest joke for airlines and a airport
Nice Airport! Its huge but well maintained airport. Infrastructure is good and looked modern. The shuttle train is running from one end to other end terminal. Its very helpful, no need to walk long distances, saves people time. The fountain after security check is beautiful...The process of arrival and departure is well organized. Security checks are well managed... Securities are friendly...Multiple language sign boards are helpful.. There are many stores, Restaurants, shopping centers, duty free shops available here. Resting area need bit improvement, no reclining seats, sleeping areas found... Metal seats are not so comfortable for longer time...Overall good airport with modern facilities...
I just flew into DTW for the first time ever. All I have to say is OMG. I am blown away by how well the facilities are. 1.) Super Clean 2.) Bright and open 3.) So many options food wise. 4.) Digital signs to get you to where you need to go. 5.) NO HOMELESS 6.) NO HOMELSS HARASSMENT.This place made a huge positive impression on me…
I’m flying out of a delayed Spirit Airlines flight this evening on 04/14/2022 that was supposed to leave Detroit at 10:45pm to Atlanta and I just want to complain about the fat dark-skinned Hispanic airport security/TSA dude (white collared shirt, black tie and black slacks) between gate D17 and D19. Apparently he thinks it’s okay to be rude just because he’s mad about his life situation, which has nothing to do with me. I know it was just him because literally everyone’s else I encounter at the gate, even when they had to pull me off to the side to pat me down and double check my purse. ALL were pleasant except for this guy. My boyfriend (who is traveling with me) and I came to the conclusion that this guy must not get any pu**y. Again, has both to do with me and he certainly won’t get any with the attitude he showed.
Connecting here often for the service from Upstate NY (Ithaca, Elmira, Albany, Syracuse) to get to my homestate of California and Detroit is by far the easiest place to connect versus Chicago and other alternatives. The airport is manageable in size and the on time record is better than alternatives that I felt comfortable with tight connections.
If you have ordered a car through a travel agent in Israel, please note that one of the questions asked by the car service, how much did you pay for the rental of the car, is not applicable, you will need to have the manager override the question.Due to this issue, often you might get stuck for 15 minutes or more until they realize the question needs to be overridden.
I arrived at Detroit yesterday after a long cancelled flight and hours at layover with my husband and two small children. As I approached the host stand I asked for a table for 4 and a look at the kids menu The host was extremely rude she literally threw the menu at me and said now you “gotta” wait because I was standing in the wrong place on the line. She then walked away and snapped her long fingernails at me and my family saying she does t hace time for this. When she came back me and my husband told her their is no need for the rude behavior and she began cussing even calling me a B**** in front of my children. This place was horrible. I’m so glad I never have to go back here again. But it’s completely unacceptable. Terrible customer service and very ghetto
Have a 3 hour layover and have had time to explore Terminal A which is the Delta Terminal. This is a major hub for Delta and the terminal is LARGE. They 60+ gates and even an AirTrain that takes you from end to end. Since I had time, I walked the entire length of the terminal. There are several moving sidewalks to make the walk easier. There are several restaurants and shops. There is a mini-mall right past security. There seems to be plenty of seating and gate areas dont feel so cramped like other airports. Lots of windows to let light in. Need to charge your phone/laptop? Plenty of areas to do that and do work as well. Thumbs up. Now need to decide where to eat.
Overall the airport is nice and clean. Up until the COVID, The airport had a huge problem with the number of people in line to get to their flights even over 2 hours before the flight actually takes off. This may be just a problem with the spirit flight logistics and division but overall, the airport is relatively clean and the service staff are informative. The TSA crew here are actually really quite nice and efficient at moving people along as fast as possible.
I went through delta airlines and my flight to San Francisco was boarding at 905am and went to use the restrooms at 825am and waited in line for restroom and was literally 30ft from entrance of plane and It was 840am when I got to gate and they said it was to late and never called any last call or anything and was very rude to me even though I was early when it states on the registry that you have 15 Minutes prior to boarding . Anna can William badge number 731685 was very rude amdnun professional and was derogatory towards me even though im a paying customer. Never fly delta go united.
DTW McNamara Terminal, where Delta is housed, has a good indoor tram to carry you from one end of the terminal to the other and los of moving walkways. Stores and restaurants are plentiful. The airport is logically laid out. Its easy to get where you are going and to get food. North Terminal is not as easy. Its less straightforward and you dont always find a restaurant sheets you might want one.
Don’t miss the rental car return exit!!If you do, you’ll regret it. This airport has an endless loop running the entire length down the middle. It must be several miles. It added 14 minutes to my trip. So better not be in a hurry!!Other than that, the airport is well structured and organized. It’s not the most beautiful airport but what do you care?! Hopefully your not staying long!!This is a larger airport so there are plenty options for food, rentals, etc.
Modern, efficient, and enjoyable airport to fly through. The light tunnel is pretty fun to walk through. There are many stores of all shapes and sizes including souvenir shops. There are lots of restaurants. Security is pretty quick despite the high volume of travelers. The only issue I have with DTW is how difficult it was to find the public transit bus station, but follow the marker for the station on Google Maps (It is the SMARTs FAST bus station called Route 261) and ask around - I got lost multiple times along the way but the workers here are friendly and will happily direct you to the station. The bus doesnt come often, but is is quite comfortable and magnitudes cheaper than taking a cab or Uber into the city.
Its an airport!Decently laid out and open so not terribly crowded, however the food / shop selection is very poor for its size and many are closed way too early (6-8pm) even pre covid and now there sometimes two to four places to get food / snacks / books in the entire B & C concorse while A isnt fairing much better.smh D
This was my first time here in this airport. Overall, an organized airport. When I was here tram did not work so you had to walk 8-10 minutes to your gate. I traveled from overseas and custom process was very smooth and fast! There were several places to eat and have drinks as I walked to my gate.
DTW is literally one of my favorite airports to have a layover when flying Delta. The Delta Terminal (Concourse A) is a fantastic terminal and has a ton of great options for dining. Not to mention the most awesome feature: an indoor tram! Somehow having the tram indoors and being able to see the tiny people below makes my inner child ridiculously happy. Just a well-designed terminal overall, with assisted walkways connecting between terminals. Really wish Delta can make other terminals as great as the one they have in DTW.
As a frequent flyer who has flown repeatedly thru every large international airport in the U.S., Detroit Metro is my favorite airport of this size. No other airport comes close. It is the most efficiently operated airport in the country. It is the cleanest. The airport employees are friendly, professional and patient. The Macnamara Terminal offers a wide variety of shops and restaurants. The indoor train is easy to access and can transport you from one end of the terminal to the other quickly (and comfortably in the warmth of the terminal). There is a Westin hotel inside the terminal that I have lodged at many times. You cant go wrong connecting thru Detroit no matter the destination or the weather. They are always prepared.
Very nice airport with very nice staff, one of my friend had the below mentioned experience which is self explanatory: I was delayed for hours because my flight was having mechanical issues, and the staff were very generous to give me and my family a different flight that would be departing sooner. I would definitely recommend going to this airport
Amazing airport! Terminal M (the Delta Airlines terminal) is great! It is spacious, modern and clean. The service is great, with friendly check in agents and great staff. There are lots of shopping options and dining options. It is a very clean airport with lots of amenities!
Organized and clean ,modern, wide and spacious airport for sure. That, alone, helps with airline travel stress. The train helps if you are in a rush on those gates they serve, and if you are not on the train route, you go underground in the funky moving floors and still make good travel time. Out of all the big hubs I have been to, I really like this one the best. Many restaurants and little shops everywhere if you have that time.Cant judge distance on the sloppy airlines, so I wont bring that in to this review here, except about the train and moving floor. I will say that Embers Lounge is new and way at the end of wing (not sure which one) and its a relaxing place for a food entree and drink, yet you are not cooped up in a packed restaurant bar area. This is pretty new, I was told. Ive traveled many times through this hub and I never remember it being that area.
Very straightforward airport, literally.2 concourses A | - | BC. Some of the staff can be friendly. Many of them are short and not very great with customer service. Its a big airport and offers a lot of options for food, breweries, and a few clothing and shoe stores. Sky Spa massage is available too. Both ends of the A concourse are closed and many of the stores are as well with the reduced flying of Covid Era. I especially like the Plum Market and the big Sky Club just after security in the middle of the A concourse. There is a Westin hotel attached as well for easy access (high costs of course) with no rental car agencies in sight and little to no public transit, there are definitely some missed benefits that other airports have. Also, youll be 24 miles outside of downtown Detroit when you land here.
Love this airport! I have always had great customer service from the Delta agents, the TSA staff, and the many businesses inside security. The airport design is easily understood and navigated. The lively fountain and Rotunda make for a few distractions while you are navigating to your gate. There is a Detroit Coney Island in Concourse A for your coney dog and cheese fries fix. Baggage claim has been speedy, and rental car buses are seldom more than 10 minutes away.
A modern international airport with wide concourses, overhead shuttles and artistic touches. The airport hanger design to the ceiling is a nice retro integration. Comes with all amenities to make your airport experience enjoyable. Security and Customs were efficient and friendly.
Really nice airport. I fly through here a lot. This is one of my favorite airports. There are plenty of places to eat at and a couple of really nice Sky clubs if you are a member. The tram gets you from the end to the center of the A gates fast, the lighted tunnel to c and b gates is pretty cool, you can get to from one gate to any other in 5 minutes.
Hands-down the best airport Ive ever had a layover in. Wish I took pics. Beautiful, massive walkways, doesnt feel too crowded even on holidays, a surprisingly quiet express tram going from one end to the other, quick & reasonably-priced food for an airport, friendly professional staff, easy to find your terminal, very clean, interesting decor, I could go on. Its impressive, especially for an airport this big.
One of the biggest airports that I have ever visited. Delta is the best airways of youre flying from or to here. The customer service was exquisite.Really enjoyed my time here.Be prepared to walk alot because this airport is huuge. They even have airport trams to get you around terminals.
Last time I passed through DTW, I was lucky enough to hear jazz pianist & singer Keith Ferguson perform near gate A38. Mr. Ferguson plays a wide variety of songs and offers travelers a wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy live music between flights, which is a unique airport experience! Apart from this, I would note that DTW is airy and well-organized, with an efficient shuttle service. Its an attractive, modern airport, and a great place to spend a few hours!
Huge airport, but they make it easy to get through, they have tram system, escalators, and sliding floors. They even have a huge tunnel that you have to pass through between concourses thats set up as a light and sound show. In the name of safety theres even a way to disable it for the folks who cant endure that.
Honestly cannot find an airport in the US better than this one. Have flown both North and McNamara terminals. Both are clean, new and efficent. I personally think the McNamara is the best terminal in the country! FYI! January to April 2019 the McNamara Express Tram will be closed for maintenance, prepare extra walking time.
Everything was going fine until our first encounter with check in. The Delta agent literally pulled her mask down to scream at us to get out of line and get a tag on our bag before we got back in line. Then when we didnt move fast enough she decided to scream louder (now everyone is looking) and told us to get out if line NOW and we better not go under the rope? Like, WTH?? TSA was incredibly ride as well and one agent got so nasty with Mt daughter she strayer crying just because she put her shoes in a bin instead of the table. WTH?? Even the janitor ran her cart into my leg and when u said excuse me, she said yeah right. Thats unfortunately just the beginning. Ill avoid this airport at all cost in the future. I can handle some attitude but this was off the charts with everyone we encountered.
Im absolutely appalled that my family was harassed by a security guard in a vehicle while trying to get my mother and her bags out of the car and say goodbye at the departure gates. She stayed honking and flashing behind us with no direction or instruction given as to why, but it was disgusting behavior considering we were following the flow of traffic. Happy Holidays, everyone.
Being from Detroit, my first impressions of this airport was to find it rather large, however, after traveling by plane to San Franciscos or LAX, it seems downright adorable. The layout is fairly convenient and you can get to it by a people moverish train or by car. I took the people moverish train a couple times because I didnt want to leave my car in the airports lot for the duration of my extended getaway. Course a little bro, boyfriend, bff, or even mom can come in handy at those times, and thats an option Ive availed myself of a few times.Airport security is pretty much the same unnecessary nuisance Ive experienced at any other airport. I guess it depends upon whos the TSA agent. The most important factor to consider when traveling to or from Detroit is the weather, but mostly during the Winter. Snow, ice, and extreme cold can put the brakes on time sensitive travel plans, so its probably a good idea to have some kind of plan B for when Ol man Winter stymies your movement.Speaking of movement, Detroits geographical position makes plane travel rather limited; I needed two connecting flights to get to Rio, and two, different, airlines just to get to Florida, and many flights have connections even to LA. Plus, the airport services only a couple airlines.Making sure youve got everything you need before starting to travel is a good idea since Detroits airport isnt an exception to the over priced airport store rule. Problem is, airport security works in almost conspiratorial concert with some stores to keep some stuff you want outside the gate and force you to be gouged by high prices inside the gates.
Plane delayed 5 times. Missed connecting flight and stuck in Dallas overnight didnt get to hotel until after 1am after we arrived too late for shuttle service and had to pay to get to hotel. Only had 3 hours to rest before had to leave 5 am for 7 am flight. Flight was extremely crowded and I was seated in between two people.

2022-04-05For a larger airport its pretty easy to get around. The united ticket counter was awesome. Of you checked in on their app, all you had to do was step up to an empty counter spot, scan your boarding pass and they put the tag on the bag and you were off for security.

2022-05-27Surprisingly nice airport. Sushi, fresh fruit market were a nice touch. After 10pm not much open. Bathrooms were clean and had doors almost to the floor, which was nice. Tram is useful for getting to the other end of the terminal quickly.

2022-01-15I love the airport because its always a smooth navigation through the concourses, and gates. The floor and plan are friendly for long walks. Always a good exercise when not in a hurry to connect. You also have the Express Tram to your rescue when in a hurry. Then lots of shops, Lounges for luxury travelers.

2022-02-02Flew into Detroit because I had a layover flight from New York to go to Florida. I had to stop here and switch planes. It seems like its a more industrial themed airport.. well it is Detroit so makes sense. But anyway they have a shuttle train inside the terminals kind of like the skytrain at JFK which is interesting. And they also have these cool light up tunnels between each terminal. And the airport seemed fairly clean and not too overcrowded.

2022-05-26Really nice airport, lots of shops and restaurants for the layover. Multiple spots had live music (on a rainy Thursday afternoon, not just prime time!). Free fast Wi-Fi without annoying sign-ups or time limits. And the automated second-floor interior tram system is something to see (or ride on multiple times during a 4-hour layover...)

2021-12-03I had to transfer from Concourse B to Concourse A and it took me around 10 minutes to do that. Make sure you have sufficient time in hand for your transfer between your previous flight and your next one, in case you are transferring. If you are traveling via Delta Airlines, they have a monorail which runs between Gates A15 and A78. It can make your commute between gates even faster!Happy journey!

2021-09-03Large airport with open and airy feeling. Security is fast, lots of room and space. Delta clubs are large and well appointed. Tram is cool to see but admittedly I haven’t had the need to use it. Sadly the fountain in the A terminal isn’t working but I think that a covid thing.
