Comment: We rented a car from dollar at the Sacramento airport on 6/19. We were sent a text to check in early so we go straight to our car, however that did not work. Other people standing line said the same thing. We had to wait in line for over an hour to get to the counter. once there he found the reservation which stated we did not want insurance. Instead of processing the reservation and giving us the key he said do you want standard or premium, he never mentioned the word insurance. My husband just said we want the car we reserved. The guy wouldnt let it go and kept saying standard or premium. My husband realized that he must be talking about insurance and when my husband said are referring to insurance he said yes you have to have insurance. My husband explained to the representative that we do not have to buy insurance through Dollar as we insurance on our primary cars and through our credit cards. He finally gave us the key. I am guessing he get commission for insurance sales. If i was his manager he would be fired for trying to trick customers into buying something they do not need. I hope this is how Dollar trains there staff and I hope customers do not fall for it.

Comment: If you want to get in contact with someone over the phone DON’T rent here. I’ve gone through every prompt and it’s all automated. How is it not possible to get a hold of them for a simple question. “Customer service” isn’t even an option! I will not be using them.

Comment: If I could give negative stars, I would. They charged me over $1,000 after I returned my rental. I was told a receipt would be emailed to me, and I have still yet to receive it over a month later. I also never received a copy of the agreement.I called their customer service to inquire about these charges and they wouldnt tell me what they were for. On top of that, the customer service rep hung up on me. I was told where I can download a copy of my receipt online, but they dont recognize any of the information I input such as my drivers license and even the CREDIT CARD NUMBER THEY CHARGED this over $1,000 fee too. It makes no sense.They are very unprofessional. I will NEVER rent a car from them again and I suggest choosing another company when you need a vehicle.

Comment: What a joke. Customers beware! I’ve had a car reserved for three months. I get up to the rental car desk and they have NO cars! Zero! NONE! They won’t have any for several hours, if then. No guarantees. You could be spending the if that the airport. (It’s only 3:30pm) Never use Dollar rental car! Pass it on!!!

Comment: Went to pick up my car at the reserved time and was told there were no cars and wouldnt be available for 2 hours. They took my number and never even called back! Luckily the gentleman next to Dollar at Avis promptly gave me a car at an even better rate. If youre looking to rent a car at the Santa Barbara airport, go to Avis!

Comment: Worst rental experience I’ve had. Set up through Expedia, I requested a specific return time and no information was given to us at the desk other than handing me keys and telling me where the car was. Nothing about payment or return time. I read the paperwork later since we didn’t receive any info and they had the incorrect return time. Worked with their online help chat and called the desk I picked up from and was told it would be an additional hourly charge to get the return time I had originally requested because they had that as an hourly extension. We did it because it is not worth our time to return the car and go with a different rental company but the cost for 5 hours of extension is more than I paid per day. I’ve rented cars in so many places for work and vacation but this is my first experience with Dollar. And will be my last for sure. Very frustrated with the service and lack of communication. The woman I spoke to in the phone was friendly but that’s all the positive I have to say about this company.

Comment: I set a car reservation for 9am the other day. I called the number provided at 7am the morning of the ask if there was a car available to pick up sooner. First of all, it’s strange that it’s impossible to get in contact with the physical SB Airport Dollar instead of a call center in another country. The lady obviously had no idea whether they had the car or not and suggested showing up 15 mins early, which didn’t help me. I showed up at 11 to pick up the car and was told it wasn’t ready and to wait about 45mins for a call. I have never in my life had to wait for a rental car I reserved. I wish he would have told me this before swiping my credit card so I could have gone to any number of the other car rental places that were getting people in and out. I mean, Dollar is seriously the car rental version of Spirit Airlines, it’s trash. Needless to say, the rude customer service guy never called me so I went back up to the counter an hour later. He had no clue who I was. He ended up giving me a car that was just returned, not cleaned or checked out, and “the lady said the tank was full.” Well that lady lucked out because the tank was half full but I’d rather eat that than continue sitting and waiting to get my day started. Dollar is extremely unprofessional in their actions and in their customer service. I won’t make the mistake of choosing them again.

Comment: We rented a car recently, filled it up 1/4 mile from the return, and we charged $33 for fuel we only found out later, and wont credit us without going through a stupid process. Seeing as there is a dedicated press 2 for fuel charges on their customer service line, this is obviously a scam. Also, the mirror controls on the car were broken.

Comment: Staff were friendly. Unfortunately their policy requires the last name on the credit card to match the last name of the major driver. My problem was that my drivers license expired halfway through my rental so I couldnt rent. But my wife whose last name is different didnt have her credit card with her. Fortunately after 30 or 40 miles of extra driving we got something figured out.

Comment: I have been a repeat customer with Dollar for two years for travel purposes between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Unbelievable! I returned from a trip to the East Coast to discover Dollar charged me $300 for a cleaning fee for smoke damage. The car smelled of smoke when I rented it. I am a non-smoker!!! Nobody in the car smoked. I attempted to dispute it through Dollar and they refused to reverse the charge. Unbelievable, just unbelievable! Time to switch rental agencies, for sure. Id hight discourage renting from this organization.

Comment: I rented a car at SBA Airport from Dollar rental. I declined and did not want additional insurance but they still charged my credit card $66 insurance fee. My agreement shows that I declined it. I was very displeased with Dollar rental. Stay away..
