Nice guys and all but they charge you 2-3 times more for parts than what they actually cost. Tried charging me 560 dollars for a fuel pump when it cost just over 200 from auto zone. Do your own research on what parts cost before you let them work on your vehicles. I ended up doing it myself for a third of the price.
Recently took my minivan to Dykstras Auto. They gave me an honest assessment of what repairs were necessary and even went the extra mile ,when the decision was made to donate the vehicle to charity, by helping us with the whole process. Cant say enough good things about Travis and everyone at Dykstras Auto
I am a GVSU student and my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee started overheating out of the blue one Sunday and was towed to Hansen-Dyke. It was about 7pm, so they were closed but I left my key with the envelope and form in the drop box and was called ready with a quote and diagnosis not even an hour after they opened on Monday morning. I was given a reasonable quote for replacing the water pump, serpentine belt, and belt tension pulley bearings and was able to pick up my vehicle that afternoon. Also was charged less than originally quoted which is always great! My Jeep is back on the road no problem and I would highly recommend coming here, especially for students in an emergency! I am so appreciative of their fast service, their reasonable prices, and their friendly, understanding staff.
I have been to Hansen-Dyke several times in the past year. I started going for simple care maintenance like oil changes. I would recommend this shop because I have had positive experiences each time Ive been there. Ive probably had 4 oil changes, a coolant flush, new tires, and a transmission fluid leak repaired. Nothing huge, but the guys are very helpful and professional whenever I go. I think the prices are reasonable and they dont try to rip you off. They are trustworthy and that warrants my returning whenever I have car issues.
After my boyfriend had a bad experience with another mechanic, I wanted to leave a good review for Hansen Dyke, our usual mechanic because this experience made me appreciate this shop so much more. The guys here are so honest with very reasonable prices and quick turnaround times. Hansen Dyke is always my first recommendation for a mechanic
Only place in GR that actually gave me an estimate and they also stick to it to the exact number. They definitely have a formula to get you to repair more then what you ask them to do though. I have gone to them at least 5 times so far, and each time they called me about two hours later to ask me if I wanted them to do something other then what I sent the car in for, but they were more then reasonable when I told them no. Their prices are definitely inflated, but after talking to a mechanic friend of mine, they arent so bad that its not entirely worth it, and their prices beat any other repair place in Allendale by a ton. They were honest about their charges, and from what my friend could tell, they did a decent job.
After I lost my husband, I brought my car into them several times! I do not know anything about cars, however I trusted them to do everything! Big Mistake! Every tine I took my car in they always found many thing they said needed. I didnt know any better! After several times and a many hundreds of dollars I said enough! I took it to Ensings and they solved my problem for $105.00, (this also included an oil change).
Best place to go to for auto repair in Allendale. I have come here a couple times for minor repairs to my 97 Grand Cherokee and they have been great. Gave me a straightforward estimated cost for the repairs beforehand, fixed it quickly (within a few hours) both times, and stuck to the price they gave me initially. Definitely would recommend them.
This place should not be considered a tire repair shop. I called on the morning of 11-22-17 and needed a tire fixed, not a new set of tires, just one tire fixed. Guy says, we can get that done for you on next Monday.Ok, that would be great, but with new cars not coming with spare tires anymore, I needed to get it fixed in order to finish my trip out.I would highly discourage anyone from going there for tire repairs.
While on a short trip into the area, my Alternator went out. These guys got me back on the road quickly and for good price. They guy originally told me it would be several days before they could get to my car, but once I explained i was only in town for a couple of days they got me fixed right way.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE!!!!!!!!I brought my car in because it stalled and was making a weird noise. It took them 3 days to even call me to tell me what was wrong with it. They then told me my timing belt needed to be replaced and it was going to be $800 to fix, (I had just gotten my timing belt replaced less than a year before). So I called my dad and my dad told me to my car back and drive it home. It turned out that I had a blown head gasket, which they did not even tell me about. I am so glad I did not let them replace my timing belt when it wasnt the problem. I will never go here again and I would never recommend this place to anybody!
My daughters car broke down on her way back to Grand Valley. I am not from the area so I took my chances here, I had her car towed there that night. Travis called me back the next morning and quoted me a price that was reasonable, he said he couldnt get the parts in till the next day and would try to get it done if everything goes as planned. To my surprise he called the next morning and said they were done and it turned out to be less money then he quoted.Very honest people! I could not be more pleased! Thank you!
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee with almost 159,000, so when my exhaust system clamps broke, I was just looking to have them replaced and thats exactly what they did. I wasnt looking to replace the entire system, which is what other places would have told me. John Dyke told me what his technician, Dan Dyke, would be looking at. About 30 minutes later, broken clamps were taken off and the new clamps put on. Simple, easy. I love the honesty of this shop. Thank you, John and Dan.
I brought a Toyota Highlander in to get a wiper arm replacement and new wipers. The arm wasnt replaced but was temporarily fixed and only one wiper was replaced. The wiper that was replaced was a very cheap China made wiper and broke off within days of getting it repaired. I wasnt impressed enough to go back and get it fixed from them so I took it to a dealership to get everything fixed. If these guys cant properly get wipers fixed I dont know if Id trust them with anything else.

2022-03-31Very good people here and they do great work. Very informative when it come to the work that needs to be done. They tell you what is wrong with your car honestly and efficiently. Their hourly labor rate is a little on the higher end but it is 100 percent worth it for the quality of work they do. I take both of my cars to them and they know me by name. That’s just the type of customer service you can expect from these fellas. They also offer deals if you sign up for their email alerts. there was a review on here that said they overcharged for parts, I would disagree and say that they offer quality parts and services and also do need to make a profit to be able to continue to offer such a high quality work. If you want dirt cheap work done that isn’t quality then take your car to a muffler man.

2022-06-21This is an extraordinary business that projects that they want you to feel confident in your transportation whatever the make or model. They treat my 220000 mile 2005 Toyota minivan as though it was a Ferrari. Whatever the cost of repairs they carefully help you understand what repairs are critical and what can be put off. They are as good on major steering engine and transmission work as they are taking time to fix those annoying problems that make you hate an old car. Friendly, reliable, transparent, convenient, first name basis attitude, these folks are the BEST!

2022-02-21My truck would not start, had it towed to Dykstras Auto on such short notice. The next day they diagnosed and worked on it, replacing the starter. The service advisor thoroughly explained what the technician did to my truck, as well as advised me of upcoming maintenance needed to be done to the truck, as well as quotes for each service. Thoroughly great work, and amazing communication, would highly recommend!!

2022-01-24Completely satisfied with the service they have performed on both of my vehicles. From oil changes, maintenance and making sure my vehicles are in top running condition. Also, Brad my mechanic is very pleasant and knowledgeable. Prices are fair, service is excellent. Highly recommended.....

2022-02-28Great people! They are normally booked out but I understand why. They fixed my tire in the time they said they would and explained to me what was wrong. Price overall was cheap to me and I will go back in the future!

2022-07-16Totally missed an important diagnosis. I took my car in to get my brakes inspected because I noticed some squeaking and a spongy break pedal. They insisted that my car was fine even after I asked if they could check again. I got a second opinion from different reputable mechanic who found that my rear brakes were not even functional because the caliper pins were rusted and seized up. Two stars because at least they didnt charge me for the inspection.

2022-05-21At this time I do not recommend getting your vehicle repaired at Dykstra’s Auto. I brought my fiancés car in for a noise coming from the rear wheels. They did not fix the problem, but instead charged her roughly $850 to replace all of the break equipment on the front side of the vehicle (break pads, caliper, and rotors). They were told to test drive vehicle for 15 minutes for the noise to start in the rear to help diagnose the issue and correct it. After bringing the car in a second time, they were able to diagnose the issue after doing what was asked in the first place. They did not comp the repair (having to replace another caliper in the rear). Though instead initially saying that the new second repair would cost an additional $350, until I was able to share my frustration and having them go down to $200, which is still too expensive in my experience between all the issues that were had at this place. Break jobs aren’t that difficult, but finding the time for myself to do it is. Therefore, I decided it was more competent and reliable to find the time and just do the job myself, as these certified mechanics can’t seem to take notes from an initial phone call and follow simple instruction. I hope this review helps another; find a different place for your auto repairs, especially brake services. They may be able to do the work, but not at a fair price, or with better customer service skills.

2022-02-22My son is a Gvsu student and was having car trouble‘s. We are 200 miles away and wasn’t sure what to do. Called a few families from the Grand Rapids Allendale area and they referred us to the shop. The car wouldn’t run and it was over the weekend they took us right in on Monday morning got us fixed and by Tuesday the car was running and my son was able to get to class and to hockey practice. With three children going to GV with our cars it is comforting to know there’s somebody I can trust to get the cars Repaired without having to try to bring them home.
