Comment: Best place ever! Super fun glamping experience. Great location and so fun.Laundry can be done at their sister resort. While we stayed in a yurt and it was fun! I would probably get a cabin for the next trip. We stayed a week but I could see families coming in for just a few days. It gets cold at night and we saw a starlink takeoff! Super cool! Also loved the beachTook off a star because the price was a bit steep for camping. Loved everything about it but the ritz Carlton is in the same price range!

Comment: I’ve stayed a couple times over the last couple years and the service has always been top notch. Plus every campsite has felt like the best one!The market is helpful for forgotten supplies and has great quality clothing… It’s a bit pricey, but worth it for the convenience and you know it goes to an amazing, hardworking staff.Pro tip- Since it gets extremely dark at night, use string lights to illuminate the path from your fire to the base of your cabin stairs. Can be solar powered or use a portable battery charger… Then place electric tea lights on both sides of the steps as well… you’re welcome.

Comment: Loved this campground. We are normally a family of tent camping and spontaneous adventure . This time we chose to stay in a Yurt. Yet another adventure to add to the bucket list. It was super cool. Staff was amazing. There was multiple things to do that catered to everyone in our family. From hikes to farm animals, to a heated pool, llamas, campfires, music, bikes available to ride, a playground and a beach nearby. 🏕️🌊☀️⛱️we highly recommend! Super peaceful and added some zen and memories to the books.

Comment: El Capitan is an annual weekend event we all look forward to. The rooms are just fine. Not too fancy but appointed enough for easy living. My only commentary is when i went to country store to ask for limes, i was quoted $5 for each lime. While i know supplies are hard to come by and the market can up charge a bit for convenience, i found the $5 price tag insulting. I have no idea how much limes cost at a grocery store but i felt being taken advantage of and that never feels good. I would have gladly paid more for the room. Just not for simple ingredients like a lime which made the upcharging so obvious.

Comment: The most relaxing stay I’ve had in a long time! The sound of the creek is beyond soothing. Property is well kept and rooms were so clean. So many fun trails, the market breakfast delicious, the live music was a surprise bonus. And the farm - oh my god - such a cool experience to feed the llamas, and we got lucky…there were brand new baby sheep and baby goats! Truly amazing! You must go!!!

Comment: We had an amazing time staying in the Adventure Yurt in December! Our room had everything we needed for a true glamping experience - electricity, space heater, hot water maker, microwave, and plenty of warm blankets. The staff very friendly and gave us some tips on how to get our fire started. Although it was a bit damp because it had rained earlier in the week, we were still able to get the campfire going and enjoy smores and a pseudo-camping experience. The communal bath/shower room was relatively clean, though one of the shower stalls was directly under a birds nest and had some bird poop in it. The bathroom/shower was never crowded and we could take a shower comfortably. You can hike up the hill at around 8am and hang out with the animals - they have sheep, goats, a donkey, and llamas, and they usually need help feeding them! This was great for the kids to get some up-close and personal time with the animals. We will definitely be going back and probably booking the bunk or queen cabin, since those have a private bathroom and kitchenette.

Comment: Overall, it was a very nice place. The room was nice and cozy. However, the Creekside Queen was a lot smaller in real life than the pictures. The bed edges stuck out and I kept hitting my legs on the hard wood. The location was immaculate. The trail leading to the animals overlooking the ocean was amazing👌. The food was really good and not very pricey.

Comment: We Love to go to the concert series every year to eat Barbecue and dance, but have missed the last 2 years because of Covid. We were unaware of the new policy that you had now had to reserve the barbecue on line by 2:00 the same day. They now do not let concert goers in until 3:30. We arrived at 4:00 and told that they had stretched the rule until 3:30. But they had extra chicken, which we were happy to have. But they had to asked the chef first. The chef was A TOTAL RUDE JERK TO US! He went on a rant on us. All we asked for was chicken that they had.We were shocked that anyone would speak to us that way. Without responding we just walked away. If he was my employee I would have fired him on the spot for speaking to customers that way. We usually bring 6 to 10 people with us. Thank goodness we were alone Saturday June 3rd. I doubt we will ever go back again. It was such a toxic experience that left us shaken. How sad that one OBNOXIOUS employee with a chip on his shoulder and anger management issues could ruin a summer tradition for us.

Comment: What a beautiful place indeed. Stayed here for the weekend in a little cozy cabin that has everything the family needed. The super bloom this time of year was incredible so I really enjoyed the hikes through the hills where at some point I was surrounded by 7 foot flowers and weeds and felt one with the plants then suddenly spotted two deer. However I did end up getting poison oak so pay attention to whats growing around you.

Comment: Recently stayed. Had a nice weekend until i went to get my car at the end of the weekend which had been vandalized during our stay, ripping the soft top roof, likely by kids who tend to play and throw stones etc in the lower car park. Staff had no interest in helping, there are no cameras and as requested when i spoke to the manager, i sent him details and images etc, but he hasnt bother to reply to my emails. Pretty disappointing service. Had to put in a crime report. Park at your own risk as if something happens, they wash their hands of it.

Comment: Weve been coming here for over 10 years. Without kids and now with kids.Sadly, since Sun Communities has taken over operations and now ownership, the once beloved El Capitan has become just another corporate owned vacation spot and has lost its charm. In the earlier years, the welcome letter would be chalk full of information and what was happening at the canyon, now it is just a form email. They have taken away all the seating from Canyon Market and made it glorified fast food restaurant with only takeout containers. I can remember many trips sitting and meeting families from all over the country while we ate and relaxed by the fire.

Comment: This is NOT a luxury environment. Or, its luxury you will find only in a canyon you get to on foot... I dont even remember if they have electricity! But it is the most beautiful environment you can imagine. And if you get a registration in a small cabin, and you can walk there on day 1 and back out on day 3 or 4 - get some help on both down and up... Why am I telling you this? It was the BEST trip I have ever done...

Comment: SCREAMING.CHILDREN.We came here as a staycation for my husbands birthday. Love glamping ever since our first trip a couple years ago in Mendocino. We got an adventure yurt. The yurt was great. What was unbearable was the fact that we were SURROUNDED by screaming, crying children of all ages. There are quiet hours that are “strictly enforced” OK SURE. We were woken up at 6:00am to kids screaming at the top of the their lungs. Of course their parents are fine with it because they’re not near them, but everyone else has to suffer. What I was hoping would be a relaxing, serene camping experience was an insane day care center. The site when booking doesn’t give off the vibe that it’s a family camp, but be warned as a couple looking to get away in nature, it’s not for you, stay away. I can’t come back, it’s left such a bad taste in my mouth.

Comment: Upon arrival, the yurt they assigned us was occupied and they put us in a different one and assured me everything would be taken care of. This evening at 10:30 while my son and I were sleeping a man uses a key to open our yurt. He said he was given the key but I called the front desk and they said that it sounded creepy and sent security to check it out. He came a second time to try to get in again. I called the front desk again. They then admitted that he was given a key. Very scary experience for a single mother. Disorganized system and disappointing.

Comment: My husband and I stayed 2 days prior to Labor Day weekend. We flew in from Jackson Hole, Wyoming and arrived at LAX to drive 3 hours to get to El Capitan Canyon. We arrived 4 hours early before check in and asked if we could have an early check in. We were first told to go back in 2 hours and then told no we needed to call back in 2 hours to see if our cabin was ready. We drove around for 3 1/2 hours and went back and allowed to check in a half hour early. When we were taken to our cabin it was disappointing to see it was pretty empty with campers there was literally maybe 8 other families there. We couldnt understand why it was such an inconvenience to check in early when it clearly was evident it was not busy. We would have been more than happy to pay the extra money if it would have been an option for us to check in earlier. We were told because of COVID cabins would not be clean, but housekeeping would drop off clean linens and towels daily. This never happened. We were told to use the app to order pre-made BBQ kits, which when we tried to access we were unable to order. When we went down to the store, they told us we could not pick up unless we order 2 hours ahead of time. The cabins were extremely stuffy and hot and we had to open the windows and doors to get air circulating, along with that the bugs and gnats into the cabin. On a positive note, the scenery is very nice. It was an overall disappointment for the price we paid.

Comment: We stayed over Labor Day weekend in the Meadow suite. For what we spent I was disappointed in something that I have been looking forward to and that was recommended to us. First they sent us a generic email saying we needed to bring all our kitchen gear, even though that specific suite had a full kitchen, which made us pack a lot more than necessary sense we brought all our dishes. It was also a very hot weekend which I understand is out of their hands, but they could of at least given us fans. The loft where the kids slept was 95 degrees and still air at 9:30 pm one night and did not cool off much till 5am so I worried about having them sleep there, and they would have been cooler and safer if we went camping instead. Screen doors would have also been helpful given the amount of bugs to help cool the cabins down. I also thought a fire poker would of been very useful. The location is beautiful, there is a nice beach near by and we did enjoy some of the activities, especially the llama hike. However, I felt given the extreme heat they should of helped especially at 800 dollars a night, maybe even giving everyone a bag of ice. If it was a cooler time it might of been a different experience but I also think minor changes like screen doors, fans and better communication that was specific to the cabin site would have changed the experience as well.

Comment: The place itself is fine but our refrigerator didn’t work. The pull out bed is the most uncomfortable thing I ever tried to sleep on. It actually bruised my hips. The reason for the low stars is the customer service. After leaving something in our cabin I called 5 times and spoke with Mark 3 times but he would not have anyone go look for my item and did not make a list item report for me. I advised him the day after I left that I needed the item resent ASAP, and he said he would do it if I could pay for express fedex shipping, but then never called to tell me someone had or had not found my item and was never helpful when I called him. I don’t think he tried to recover my item at all.

Comment: This is a great glamping experience. It was my first time glamping and as I told my wife I dont do camping now that Im over 40. Love cooking over a wood fire grill. Room was as expected a bed, bathroom and fridge, wasnt excepting anything else. Brought sheets as we werent sure what the status of theirs would be and didnt need them, theirs were good. The pool and playground was perfect for my 4 yr old daughter. We went to the beach which was awesome. Played with the animals and my daughter even got to feed one.We will be doing this again sometime.

Comment: Nice grounds, nice staff, convenient to have the market place. Very kid friendly.Downside, we went in august and despite keeping all the windows open and overhead fans on (which might be the most inefficient overhead fans ever), the cabin turned so hot it was unbearable. Santa Barbara temps in the mid-high 80’s at the time. There is no AC. One issue with this is our young children still need a mid day nap and trying to get them down in such a hot environment was difficult. For the price we paid I would expect some additional ways to cool the cabin down. Also at night time the cabin is still unbearably hot and it’s difficult to fall asleep. We had to take cool off showers before bedtime to make it tolerable. It finally cools down around 2am and then the cycle repeats. You can’t keep the entry doors open bc the porch isn’t screened in and there are a ton of mosquitos/bugs. It would definitely help with airflow if the doors could be left open. And no we didn’t accidentally have the heaters on.We met up with two other families that we booked at the same time with and they also reported their cabins being very hot. Some repairs should be made to the exterior of the cabin. A pesky skunk made his home under our cabin bc several pieces of wood were missing.Unless some upgrades are made to cool the cabins down over summer we likely won’t be making another stay. The earth is only heating up. I’d rather Airbnb a place for the price.

Comment: Made our reservation for July on March, so limited availability. When we finally come, all the cabins around ours were empty. Really doesn’t make sense to be so hard to make reservation especially we were looking for weekdays. Why I’m giving 1 star?:- cabins are OLD, SQUEAKY, AND SMELL BAD- the bed also very squeaky! You sit down it squeaked, when you pull your blanket that bed squeaked! And bed is not comfortable, mattress are old.- Bathroom reminds me of bathroom on cruise ship, tiny and no pressure on the water.- we called the front desk to get additional coffee and towels. 4 hrs later nobody bring them to our cabin! Our overall experience was really BAD. So dissapointed. They are absolutely overprice and overrated! If you have the same amount of money to stay in this junk place, might as well stay at flying flags.

Comment: El Capitan Canyon and Ocean Mesa are resorts located in Goleta, California near El Capitan State Park. We stayed at Ocean Mesa. This is the part of the resort that has RV campsites and tent sites. The amenities consist of heated pool, laundromat, shower, restrooms, and store. The facilities are immaculate and extremely well maintained.Adjoining Ocean Mesa is El Capitan Canyon resort which consists of rental cabins, picnic grounds, store, restaurant, and one of the largest firepits I have ever seen. From both of the resorts you can access hiking trails which are part of a Preserve. The hikes all provide beautiful vistas and views of the Pacific Ocean. We hiked the upper paradise trail. Pack a lunch because there is a picnic table at the summit. From the summit you can enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands. Do not forget to take your binoculars. The hike can get steep and a walking stick is helpful. Our group covered ages from 4 years to seventy years old. We had to take some rest stops along the way but everyone made it to the summit. Also, another trail leads you to the Llama farm, which is part of the Preserve. The trail to the Llama farm is an easy walk.We highly recommend El Capitan Canyon and Ocean Mesa when visiting the Santa Barbara area.

Comment: The staff here is super responsive and friendly. I asked at the camp store if they carried bottles of propane. They did not, but 20 minutes later one of the employees brought a spare bottle to our campsite! He said he had an extra. The grounds were clean and well maintained. We loved our stay here

Comment: We brought a group of families here for a long weekend visit with young kids and had a great time. We got 4 cabins close to each other, near the play structure and pool. Cabins were great for us to be close to the kids when napping and have a nice bed to sleep in. Amenities on site were great, although the Petting zoo farm was a little further (and steeper with strollers) than we thought it would be, still a great time. There were plenty of skunks and raccoons that came out at night as well, which took some keeping our eyes out and putting food away when not in use. Cant wait to come back!

Comment: Awesome place - drove hours to get some place peaceful and quiet - but lawn mower and weedwacker have been going for 3 hours straight - front office could not tell me if this only happened on Monday days so I could avoid booking when normal landscaping happens ( understanding fire safety and all, but my headache is screaming)

Comment: Im not much of a camping person so I thought might give glamping a try. The grounds are nice and the people that work here are really friendly. Unfortunately, the cabins do not have AC, I guess that might not be considered glamping anymore. Everything is grilled on a fire pit. I highly recommend bringing charcoal and a chimney. Put the chimney directly underneath the grate int he fire pit instead of dumping the heated charcoal into the pit itself.

Comment: Great glamping location close to Santa Barbara. We checked in late and front desk offered us a late check-in, so we could spend more time exploring the grounds the next morning. The grounds are large and there are a lot of different types of accommodation on offer depending on how much you want to glamp. Definitely recommend!

Comment: I love the ambiance. We stayed cc means creek queen. The space is good for t people for sleeping. If u have 6 feet height in your group, the shower might be too small or big people but the outside public shower room and big enough. They supply for grilling in the canyon store. One thing i dont like would outside chair or patio chair its not sturdy and if big people sitdown it will break for sure bring your chair if u r group of 5 people. They service are one of the best, very accomdating specially the man(handsome) who guide to our cabin. Mostly like recommend this place for my friends and family.

Something so simple to remedy makes one wonder what else is slipping. I wonder how clean is the kitchen if spiders are allowed to nesting among the wine bottles in the shop? Comment: I would have given this place a 4, had I not been expecting to see water. They say their rv campground has water views, and youre really looking forward to it. So when we arrived and saw that it was a sliver of water, from a certain angle, if you tilt your head, etc. we were disappointed. I also felt, that management could do something to help with the smell of foul sewer caps not properly closed. I had to call three times to complain about this. They sent someone out each time, but they just closed one or another, yet they were a lot still left open. I couldnt sit outside because of the smell and had to personally walk around and figure which ones were open to tell them exactly which ones to close. I felt that for the money we paid, we shouldnt have to tell them how to do their jobs, plus mislead people with boasting water views. The rv sites are private from each other, and the people who were staying were considerate. They do implement a lot of rules, and regulations to make sure it stays like that, and at 10:00 its quiet time. So, you cannot be outside with electronics. Therefore, no tvs, radios, iPads etc. are allowed on. Its seems a bit ludicrous that adults need to be told this, but I guess its been an issue before. I was outside with my tv on, and had security come and tell me, its lights out, and although no one has complained, and I cant even hear your tv, Ill allow you to keep it on. I think this is a bit extreme, that youre being told what you can and cant do when youre not being inconsiderate. I felt like I had to hide every night to sit outside, enjoy a drink while watching tv, and enjoying the mild weather. They have a nice pool, and a cute store equipped with lots of essentials, should you be stuck in the park without another means of transportation. You can walk to the beach across the street, but when I say across the street, you have to go through a state park, so its like a mile and a half walk. They have an adjoining campground that has cabins, and youre free to roam around those ground. Every Friday night they have events for guests, that guest from either parks can join. They had a fabulous band one week that sang for 2 hours straight. It was lovely to see everyone dancing and enjoying themselves. They had a lovely fire-pit for guest to keep warm too. The following week they had a wine tasting, which was great and informative. They had other daily activities, hikes, yoga etc.I think theres something for everyone in this campground, but one thing you can definitely expect, is lots of kids on their skateboards, bikes, etc. So, be warned, if you want quiet all the time this is NOT the place for you.

Comment: Nice place but not worth the $335 per night for a tiny cabin. We rented the Creekside cabin with a queen bed and tiny loft. The loft is at most 4’ tall in the very middle. The kitchen doesn’t have a stove but only a tiny microwave and small fridge. The cabin is about 12’ x 20’. The furniture and cabinets are terrible quality like a cheap RV. They don’t let you get anywhere near the creek it’s closed off and it’s full of poison ivy. For the price we expected a lot more.

Comment: This campground is very pretty situated by the beach and the hills. It is a good alternative to camping since it has more amenities (market is great). We booked a safari tent originally but when we arrived, the tent smelled and had mold spots on the tent. We thought the tents would be better maintained for $155/night. We decided to switch to a cabin and Vicki at the front desk was very accommodating and helpful. The cabin was a lot better but could be a bit updated I think for $205/night (newer bathroom). But it was a nice experience with our kids and we had fun.

Comment: We enjoyed a wonderful family vacation. We rented one of the small cabins with the queen bed and the Loft, it also had an interior bathroom and shower which I feel is an absolute must in this area as you come back from the beach and outside Pretty Dirty and sweaty after a long day. Its also nice to have the shower and bathroom right there because depending on where your cabin is located it could be quite a walk. The one thing we were not prepared for is that you literally need to bring everything from chairs to utensils. We were there for two days which I feel was plenty of time to enjoy the camp as well as the beach. There is an on-site Market which is very reasonable with regards to supplies as well as prices, in fact it was a lot less expensive than I thought it would be and the staff is super friendly. Will definitely be going back

Comment: We stayed there from Sunday until Tuesday and it was an amazing experience. We went in the beginning of August and the weather was so good. It was cooling in the evenings (around low 60s - bring a jacket and pants) and during the day it was in the mid 80s perfect for shorts and a t-shirt. There is a swimming pool there, but because of the cold nights it does get pretty cold for the kids. We went on a trail that was pretty easy mostly flat and then it led to the Llama farm. The person that tended to the farm (oh my gosh I feel so bad I forgot his name) was very informative and spent time and jokes with us, it was a great time. You can see all the amenities in the pictures but there are electrical plugs and so many activities to try join. I guarentee that if you want to experience glamping this is a great way to do it. There is so much more to talk about, but a lot of it thier website does give you info about. The staff there is great and you can order anything brought to your tent or yurt.

Comment: Stayed in cabin 147. Had 6 twin beds, two are in the loft. Small kitchenette comes with a standard size microwave and small refrigerator. Bring your own plates, utensils, drinking cups and whatever else you need for cooking and dining. Keurig-like coffee maker that takes Keurig cups. Had an encounter with a mouse. Chewed through a bag of pretzels. My in-laws stayed in cabin 146. A mouse (maybe the same one) paid them a visit as well. No ac. Gets warm during the dayso it’s better to sit outside during that time. Bring your own camping chairs.Walking distance to the beach. Be careful of the tar at the beach. I was a victim. Thank goodness the Canyon Market had a one-time use tar remover wipe. Worked like a charm!Pretty peaceful at night. Kids loved having s’mores for dessert after dinner. We brought our own mini stove top and mini grill . Ate at the Canyon Market everyday for lunch. Their food was pretty good. If you forget something, most likely the market will have you covered.Swimming pool was “okay”. Nothing fancy. Bring your own towels.

Comment: If you are not a camper, this is a great alternative. You are outdoors and moving in nature, and the cabins are a place to shower and sleep. The cabins need maintenance. Screens have holes, moldings are missing around windows, little things, but for the price the cabins should be well maintained. Its a great concept. The canyon store and market are well stocked. We found most of the staff to be cheerful and helpful. They cheerfully replaced one of our screens that had holes in it so that we could open the windows during the day. The llama hike is super fun, especially for the kids. I think I would like to give it 4 or even 5 stars, its just that for the price, it seems like the cabins should be in excellent condition. We were with a large group and there was a big range of what condition each cabin was in. Still, I recommend it!

The only sad part is that I bought a magnet at their gifts shop. I dropped it on the floor and it crumbled immediately. My fault for sure but I would have hoped it survived the fall. Comment: Location was good. First night, mouse was found in the toilet. Cabin very hot inside and only a fan to help cool. Very expensive for what you get. In hindsight, we probably should have gotten a room in nearby Solvang at a hotel. More things to see and do and less cash outlay.

Comment: Really lovely. Glad I got a chance to visit before it burns down. (Note: everything in California will burn down, theres nothing special about this place, though it may burn down sooner rather than later because of the way the fire pits sit right under the trees at so many camp sites.

Comment: My first ever glamping experience was at El Capitan Canyon was eye-opening. I never knew people could experience camping in this form before. The venue had all the amenities for those that need to be on the grid to check thier email or social media (electrical outlets + wifi). Like a hotel, beds were clean and there were complimentary soap and shampoo. Id recommend staying here for those that need a quick outdoors fix while still being able to shower and sleep in a bed.

Comment: El Capitan is the ideal “camping” vacation spot in central California. There are accommodations to suit everyone. Cabins for glampers as well as yurts and canvas cabins for the more adventurous types. All have regular beds. The cabins have kitchenettes and full bathrooms with showers. The public showers were clean. We had the creekside queen cabin. Not the largest of the cabins offered but perfectly suited to our little family. (Two adults and two kids) there is a sleeping loft suitable for children. Our neighbors had two teens and the teens were not happy with the loft size. You can’t stand in the loft at all but for two little girls the experience was magical. The loft is too small for teens and adults. They had a little window up there and a ladder to get up, they loved it.Because we drove from Southern California I was able to pack EVERYTHING we needed. Turns out I really didn’t need to pack so much. The canyon market has everything, fire wood, charcoal, lighter fluid, all of the food you need and their barbecue kits are a pretty good value. Pack barbecue cookware of you plan on cooking a lot. The market prices aren’t inflated like one would expect. They sell toiletries, diapers, toys, clothing all at prices you’d expect to see in a regular grocery store. They also have a restaurant with coffee bar and lots of breakfast and lunch items. My kids loved the cinnamon rolls and cocoa. I suggest getting a free bike rental and using that to trek back and forth from cabin to store if you’re high up the hill as you’re not able to drive cars in the cabin area except to unload and load. For disabled or elderly I’d suggest getting a cabin closer to the market. The walk to the beach is a trek, with toddlers or very elderly just drive over. Otherwise it’s a nice healthy walk and the kids loved seeing the wooden train tracks. Look out for poison oak. Expect a fifteen to twenty minute walk, not five as the front desk suggested. Also expect tar on your feet from the beach. This is a natural occurrence on the California Coast. No big deal, the canyon store sells tar remover (they were out at the time) but we were able to purchase baby oil at their store which worked. Our cabin seemed equipped with a heater which wasn’t needed and a small table fan. No ceiling fan which surprised me as there looks like their used to be one, but our cabin remained comfortable mid July as we were in a very shaded area. Most of ElCap Canyon is quite shaded. Our neighbors down the hill weren’t so lucky and complained that their cabin was pretty warm. The pool was nice, no towels at the pool though which was disappointing. Bring your own beach towels. No washer/drier on site but there is one at their sister RV camp ground next door. You can also go there for family movie night and to use their other pool which has a jacuzzi. All in all we loved our stay.Pros:Everything in one spotClean cabinsComfy bedsVery kid friendlyGood WiFiSpaYogaLlama farmFree bike rentalsFriendly staffGood food at restaurantWell stocked marketClose to beachPoolCons:No ceiling fans in cabins

Comment: Great place if you want to be outdoors but with all of the optional luxuries. They have many different accommodation options depending on what options you want while glamping. The cabins are great and many of them have lofts that sleep an additional 2 people. Each site has its own fire pit and picnic table. Staff were very accommodating and friendly. The facilities were generally well maintained and clean.

Comment: El Capitan Canyon is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and much of the fun of camping without having to set up your tent and bring all the gear. We always stay in one of the beautiful cabins, tho there are other types of accommodations. Beach is a short walk away, great as it can get warm in the canyon. Lovely swimming pool with shade, big trees, plenty of open warm sunny areas as well. And green grass, a welcome sight! The camp store/grill/deli has many offerings. Staff helpful and accommodating. Check out the website and other reviews. Worth the price if its in your budget. Plenty for outdoor children to do and places for adults to have quiet as well. I imagine in the height of the summer its fairly busy. Areas to roam and opportunities for privacy. Highly recommend!

Comment: Great camping resort, with amenities that let you choose how much you are either camping, or glamping. Our family of four stayed in a double bed tent cabin that was perfect for us. Its close to the beach, and has a great pool. There were a lot of activities like a barbecue and wine tasting, both with live music. The food that is available at the canyon store is great and reasonably priced. The staff at the resort are amazing and helpful at all times. Thank you El Capitan Canyon, we will see you again!

The staff were all super friendly but we had to call twice to have our cabin serviced/cleaned and then it didnt happen until after 4pm. We were there in the off season (early January), so there werent a lot of people or activities scheduled/happening. We took a walk on our own to the goat farm and were happy we did. The Saturday morning schedule hike to farm was FILLED with screaming kids....We rented the creekside queen cabin. There was no water in the creek... that was a bummer but on the upside, it was quiet and away from the families area.

Comment: This is by far my favorite place to camp from now on. We stayed in the yurts, which were so convenient. The yurt had a mini fridge, hard wood floors, lights, a ceiling fan, and a really comfortable bed. They even provide toiletries for your shower. You step outside of the yurt and have a picnic table and fire pit ready for you. It is so easy, no need to set up a tent, but you still feel like you are camping. The showers were clean and had nice hot water for free...no coins needed!! There is a restaurant and small store on the premises that has everything you need. We ate at the restaurant the first night since we arrived in the evening and didnt want to break out the cooking gear. Also, the camp has really cute events like a wine night, movie nights, star gazing, etc. The amenities here are great and they have hiking trails at the back of their property for the guests.

In the evening we watched a kids movie on the giant projector in the woods and meandered down the most lovely lit pathway as it grew dark, hearing the crashing waves of the ocean nearby. The amenities are endless - you have access to firewood, smores kits, food, beverages, etc. at their on-site market. The cabin came with a huge full bath, a kitchenette, a very comfortable bed, an arm chair...the list goes on! Comment: Overall, I really enjoyed El Capitan Canyon. I went there last July 4th weekend, &stayed in the middle section in a Yert. It was right near the pool restrooms, showers, so conveniently placed. It got hot during the day, & cold at night, so have a staff member open &close the windows for you. Theyre happy to help!! The round, wood beamed room, had a very comfy queen bed, a twin bed, plus a trundle twin bed underneath. The linens are good quality, & the pillows were great!Theres a small fridge, pegs to hang clothes, & a kitchen like module.Theres lots to do & see, or you can read, relax or vege out in front of your very own firepit. They offer free bicycles, walking tours of the farm nearby, & a really nice BBQ, with a great country, blues band, dancing, very family oriented, with babysitting services at night. They also have an evening astronomy expert, who is very knowledgeable, &ntertaining. Bring a flashlight everywhere you go at night! Its dark!! Its very safe, but still, youre in the woods, & there are mt Lions around, its a good idea to have a buddy system for younger kids. Bring bikes, scooters, kites, frisbees, volleyball, soccer balls, outdoor games you enjoy. Theres lots of open space to play no cars are allowed to drive thru unless checking in or out. Again, the staff is very accommodating, & go out of their way to help you with anything you need. If youre prone to frequently needing a restroom, esp at night, stay in a cabin or unit that has one, its dark & cold at night, just convenient.Theres a general store with Lots of fun stuff, but with practical things like clothes, bathing suits, sweatshirts, hats, sandals, etc, but a bit pricey. I bought nice books for my grandkids, plus fun little games, a cool walking stick carved from wood, & a nice coffee cup. They have another shop, but its more artsy, with nice gifts like crystals, wood objects, wind chimes, candles, more. Again, pricey, but unique. The canyon is located across the street, down the road from Refugio State Beach. Its not an easy walk, esp with Lots of Beach gear, etc, take your car pay the parking, its not worth shlepping the kids, grandma, gear, food, mom, etc, its not very safe either(cars)...be a sport and pay the $10 fee, youll be glad you did! The beach is beautiful, windy, very short from shore to sand, more ruggedly situated, but really relaxing once settled in. There a restroom, & cement path thats on an incline down to the beach. You can settle in close by, or venture left or right, away from the crowds. Its a beach frequented by locals, & visitors like yourself, & foreigners. The next day we took the bikes & rode over along the service road to the farm nearby. There were donkeys, goats, lots of hawks flying around looking for roadkill...theres a fence that separates the animals, but theyre friendly, & fun to watch. Bring apples, carrots, let your kids feed them thru the fence, its a lot of fun, & great photo opps! There are several different kinds of structures to stay in, I recommend that mom N dad stay in a Yert, or cabin, the kids stay in a tent. This way you have some privacy, & the kids have an adventure! They have tents that are right next to cabins, & its really very safe. Only for kids that are at least 12-16 years old, who are responsible, & will watch their younger sibs! Its more affordable, & lots of fun.The pool area in the first section gets very busy, the kids were wild & theres no life guard. If you want more peace & quiet, ask if the upper section has less kids booked, worth questioning...we didnt get up their, but would venture to guess more people with kiddies stay near the pool & closer to the restaurant/gen store areas, near the entrance. The larger cabins are in the section further from the Check in desk. I believe theres a pool area, but all amenities, & a map of the canyon are on the web site. Overall, a great place to stay!!! The call it Glamping, glamorous camping...You still need to bring everything you would camping, but its definitely worth the experience!

Comment: We have stayed at El Capitan Canyon more times than I can count. All of my children have come here each and every year with their schools. My 7 year old, who has lately been having pretty intense anxiety attacks, has a small terrier mix who is a trained service animal. My husband booked the cabin (with a very expensive price to boot) at least 3 months in advance. He was told multiple times, by multiple service members, that we would be able to bring our dog along for emotional support for our daughter. The night before her trip, I called one final time to confirm that our 7 pound, friendly, quiet, non destructive service animal would be able to accompany us. I was told by a snooty woman, who seemed to have much better things to do, that they didnt consider emotional aid a service (despite the fact that our dog is a registered service animal.) Are you kidding me?? Not only did they assure us multiple times that our dog was more than welcome to stay the weekend, they actually encouraged it, with one employee telling us how he thought it was great that we were bringing her, adding that he was excited to see the little guy You mean to tell me that emotional support doesnt count as a service? Try living with a 7 year old that suffers from severe anxiety, and see the difference our little puppy makes for her. She had to miss her trip because of these close minded, ridiculous assumptions of what a true service is Beyond pissed off. The worst part is that I will no doubt be back for future school trips. Lucky me. El Capitan, PLEASE change this ridiculous policy.

Comment: My son and I had a very pleasant and enjoyable stay on our way from Santa Monica to San Francisco. We travelled from Australia to the united states of America to spend 5 weeks riding Harley-Davidson motorbikes on an expedition around and through a lovely country. Staying in your facility was so tranquil and relaxing and your staff so friendly and helpful that we made a point of returning for a 2nd visit. We will most certainly recommend your facility to our friends in Australia and look forward to staying with you again next year when we return to do some more bike riding.I wish that your accounts department was as helpful as your front of house staff. We paid cash for both of our stays but as is customary you put a hold on a credit card at the commencement of each visit. Unfortunately one of those holds, $171.30 US, was processed even though we paid cash for the visit on our departure. After many repeated attempts via the telephone to resolve the issue, and many assurances that the debit on our card would be reversed, this has still not happened. I have most certainly learnt my lesson and in future when I am paying cash I will refuse to give you my credit card. A lesson learnt at the cost of $171.30 US.My rating is for the facility and front of house staff, not the accounting staff and ethics displayed so far by management.

Within walking distance or a shrot bike ride on one of the free campground bicycles to the waterfront. Lots of open space and more than enough things to keep you interested. Would definitely stay here next time in the area.
