Room was decent nothing special. location is good and is definitely what you pay for. the lady at the front desk was rude continuously talking under her breath, rolling her eyes, and overall had an attitude in both her tone and words. I expected better customer service from a hotel that was $500 a night.
Girlfriends and I went on a girls weekend. The hotel is older but beautiful. Only issue was she booked with rewards points and they gave us a room facing the alley near the elevator... Due to flooring you could hear noise from people coming and going. REWARDS MEANS YOU FREQUENT HOTELS OFTEN... Penalizing customers for redeeming these points is a bit petty and not good business sense. Theyre called rewards for a reason...
Laura at the front desk completely saved our anniversary weekend. We were originally booked at a hotel around the corner and it was not what we thought we had booked. Upon getting a refund and scrambling to find a separate place to stay that night, Laura was more than accommodating and willing to help us out. The lobby was bright, decorated for the holidays, and extremely clean (which has become a super important quality the last couple of years). Our room had one of the best showers of any hotel that Ive ever stayed in, a full kitchen set up complete with a dishwasher, and an extremely comfortable bed. Not to mention, breakfast the next morning included chef prepared eggs! Luckily, Laura was working again the next day so we were able to give her our thanks.
We arrived at the hotel for our 35th anniversary night out. We were checking in and Laura asked what brought to the Element, we explained we were celebrating our anniversary. She congratulated us with a bottle of Champagne. Check in was a breeze and we were on our way to the 11th floor to see the city views. Once we got into our room the phone immediately rang and it was Laura at the front desk. She notice that our room had two queens and she wanted us to have a nicer King Corner Suite since it was our anniversary. We were really taken back the excellent and thoughtful customer service from Laura. We love staying at Marriots around the world and this is just another reason to stay loyal to the brand. Thanks Laura!
DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOUR ROOM IS GOING TO BE STREETSIDE FACING JOHN R!!! Everything else about the Element is perfectly fine and I would heartily recommend. Staff is very friendly, including the valet, the rooms are very nice and we were upgraded to a suite at no additional charge. The room was very clean and the housekeeping when called very prompt. Our requested check-in at noon was accommodated with no issue whatsoever. The mobile key via the app worked flawlessly. The complimentary breakfast (even though we decided to go out to eat) really looked and smelled great. BUT, the loud deliberate engine revving and loud exhausts and cars with stereos at virtually full volume until almost 3AM on John R made sleep impossible. Plus, the crowds at The Brakeman across the street we’re crazy loud. I’ve stayed at hotels in urban settings / downtowns across the country and around the world many times, including at the Shinola nearby on Woodward Avenue. None have ever approached this level of thoroughly unacceptable noise intrusion. So, if you want to stay at the Element, simply request a room in the back along the alley without a streetside city view.
Horrible customer service both within the hotel as well as the rooftop bar. My wife stayed with a couple friends this past Saturday, and to start, they were presented with a receptionist who simply made them feel unwelcome. Then, I had dropped off a bottle of Moet (chilled) the day prior to have the hotel put in their room as a surprise. Receptionist told me it would be waiting on ice with glasses, a note and some chocolate. on the day of I was told that not only was none of this done but when they went to get the champagne, it was piss warm and had been sitting out the entire 24 hrs prior from when I dropped it off. To make matters worse, the service at the roof top bar was terrible, again making them feel unwelcome to the point where my wife (the birthday girl) had to ask why they were being so rude...she received no explanation. The only reason this has a one star review is because of the decent room. Other than that terrible experience!!!! Find somewhere else to stay...there are plenty of options in the city.
Would have given a five star rating but no where on the website when I booked the room did it say that it was Valet parking ONYL, for $35 a night. It was a nice feature but it would have been nice to have a heads up. When we arrived the front desk apologized and said our room wasnt ready yet and it would still be about an hour. For the inconvenience we were offered complimentary drinks which definitely made up for having to wait around. Maggie at the front desk was wonderful and very accommodating. She was great to work with!! The rooftop bar was beautiful and made our weekend getaway superb! Would definitely stay here again! Clean rooms, great staff, comfy beds and a perfect location!
Beautiful hotel. Our room was wonderful. Great view. EXTREMELY CLEAN & surprisingly quiet! We did a late checkout, and the cleaning staff was extremely mindful of that. They did not bother us once & they were so quiet moving from room to room. Also, I could tell the management was outstanding, because they were even thoughtful in placing us in a room with a view (we are Marriot Platinum Elite) - this does not happen very often. The entire staff was exceptional, right down to the valet, Q. He went above and beyond. He was so great we didn’t even need to go to the front desk. We did mobile check-in prior to arrival, chose the mobile key option, dropped our keys with Q and went straight to the room. It was like we were in an apartment building with a concierge. Just exceptional. (And I am a very tough critic.) This will be our go-to hotel when we are back in town.
It is gorgeously decorated, clean, great breakfast, but the best part is such a great location. Conveniently located within walking distance of all Detroit venues. Would give 5 stars if the rooms had a full length mirror, a make up mirror, complimentary bottle of water, those little extras. We had a city view room and the view was spectacular.
Upon arrival at The Element, our party was welcomed with warmth and kindness. We were given two beautiful rooms for our group and each had breathtaking views of the city. At night, the city was a lit up and the view was magical. Every detail of the room was perfect. They were spacious, clean, and welcoming! The staff made us feel right at home and the morning breakfast was exceptional! The chef prepared us fresh scrambled eggs and his orange-cranberry muffins were out of this world delicious! Can’t wait to head back for a stay!
I reserved a room because I was stranded and desperate but I would 100% return to Element. It was the perfect place for me to rest my weary head after a long and very stressful day and night of travel. The front desk staff is friendly and so helpful. My room was spotless and so welcoming. I appreciated the filtered water and white noise machine next to the bed and the blackout shades. The wonderful pillows were my favorite part! I was looking for a shower cap but it definately wasnt the end of the world. The hotel is gorgeous and quiet and the continental breakfast had plenty available. I would definitely stay there again if wanted to spend a night or 2 in the city. Well done!
It was a pretty good room, it was just a smidge on the small side we got the King Studio room. I wished we would at least have had a couch in our room. But it included breakfast and had very fair priced valet parking we absolutely used. The pros outweighed the cons for sure! My husband and I had our 1 year old with us on our stay there really wasn’t many family friendly dining places in the area but I don’t hold that against the hotel by no means.
Stayed here with our family of 5, had 2 rooms and walked to Little Caesars to see a Red Wings game. Hotel staff was fantastic, friendly, and helpful. The front desk was great and really quick to help us both check in and find our way around for dinner and to the arena. Pantry had great selection for snacks after the game!
The hotel had everything a first timer needs to make the trip enjoyable. The fitness center, rooftop bar, and complimentary breakfast was a nice touch to my stay. Now the location is a little difficult to find parking if you were to drive so any rideshare or taxi service would be advised for this hotel. Only con in my mind but the pros greatly outweigh the negatives because you are right in the middle of every bar that is in detroit. Everything is within walking distance, plus there is a bar right across from the hotel and takes one second to walk over to. The Soft serve near there is also excellent. The trip was so enjoyable that I might have to book a flight down there again.
The room and amenities were awesome. The room was spacious and the beds were comfy. The breakfast buffet was also included and had a variety of options. There was a gentleman at the breakfast buffet that was so kind to my 4 year old daughter. He helped her get a lid and a straw for her apple juice. The only thing that could use cleaning in the room was the actual door to the bathroom. It was little grimy with fingerprints. The negative was the front desk staff was not helpful. They could not recommend decent restaurants and didnt know if any could deliver. There was also a option on our room phone to check out, but after calling it the front desk staff said to come down to the desk anyway.
From the valet, to the front desk, to the guy making eggs at breakfast, everyone was extremely outgoing, helpful and professional. Made for a nice overnight in great location in Detroit. Beautiful building with nicely refurbished rooms and very quiet as well. Look forward to staying here again
The first time I stayed at this hotel wasin 2019, and it was a good experience then. This stay in 2021 was even better as downtown Detroit continues to add shops and restaurants that elevate your experience. The rooms are cozy and the hotel is clean, but for me the location is what sets apart from some other downtown choices.
We stayed that this beautiful hotel for my friends wedding. I can see why from the minute she entered that she wanted to be married there. Such a classy feel and kind staff. They did everything they could to make our stay wonderful. Hope to make it a yearly event to go back to their roof top.
An excellent location with large rooms nicely appointed with a kitchen and large sitting areas. Hot breakfast with nice options. Best of all: Wonderful and welcoming staff up and down: from the front seat through housekeepers, maintenance and breakfast. This place should be on your short list when looking to stay in Detroit. Especially extended stays or stays with family.
The Element at the Metropolitan is a special place. Like much of this area of Downtown Detroit, it has been lovingly renovated and repuposed into an amazing place to stay. The location is good as you can get - easy walks to Ford Field, Comerica Park, Fox...and maybe even LCA. So many restaurants, bars and stores close by. Valet was smooth friendly and easy. Not cheap ($34 dollars), but the convenience is worth it.Everyone that we encountered was friendly and knew their stuff. Very informative. We shared the elevator with a someone (security?) who briefly told us about the renovations and pointed us to the before/after pictures on the 2nd floor (must check those out).Everywhere we went was clean and obviously well taken care of. The room, of course, was spotless. We were on the 4th floor, on the front side of the hotel and you could here noise from the street. It wasnt terrible, and it is an active area, so its not unexpected. Id stay in that same room despite the noise, it wasnt that bad. This isnt a suburban cookie cutter hotel. It is definitely pricier than that category, and Ive seen those reviews. However, its priced fairly compared to the area and the other hotels nearby. For the location, quality of staff, and the elegant renovation you cant go wrong. And that doesnt even get into the Monarch Room rooftop bar - special place.
Very nice hotel. Great, walkable location for all three sports venues. Tons of bars and restaurants close by. Modern room, with kitchenette. Small, single cup Mr. Coffee. Very clean, extremely comfortable bed (which I’ve found true across the Element brand). One significant negative, though. May be the single, noisiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Street noise….but hallway noise, as well. Not sure if it’s a design flaw, or something to do with placing a hotel in an older building. You not only hear every noise, but it also sounds amplified. We’ll definitely consider staying here again, but if you’re the slightest bit of a light sleeper, take this into consideration.
We were visiting Detroit as a couple for our first trip away from our newborn and loved the element as our “home base.” The room was spacious and clean and I appreciated the kitchenette as a nursing mom. We used the hotel bikes one morning and the hotel gym which had great options. Our only suggestion is to provide door stoppers/covers for overnight noise since there is a sizable gap between the bottom of the room door and the floor, plus lots of concrete walls and floors for noise to echo.
This hotel was great! Location was perfect for easy traffic arrival/departure, and close to many restaurants, bars & shops. Walking distance to ballpark. The hotel interior is decorated beautifully, and has several table/chair areas for work or relaxing. The staff was friendly & helpful. The guest room has a lot of space, comfortable bed, table area for work, large bathroom with great shower & well-lit mirror for doing hair & makeup. There was a kitchenette area with sink, fridge, coffee maker & counter space. I was very impressed with this hotel & will stay here again!
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Element Detroit for a long weekend and had a wonderful experience. The room was clean and simple and had everything we needed. The city view we opted for was well worth it too. Staff was very pleasant and organized. Check in/out was seem less. We appreciated the environmentally conscious decisions the hotel made. Would definitely stay here again and commend it to others!
Our stay here unfortunately did not meet our expectations for the price-point and location. We were greeted unenthusiastically at check-in, and we were not offered our Marriott rewards gift. Our room was comfortable; however, the concrete floors in the hallway create an awe fully loud echo chamber for shutting doors — which you hear all day and night long (I even felt the shutting doors shake the headboard). The windows offer a wonderful view of the city, but there is no black-out curtain. You can also hear a pin drop in your neighbor’s room, and no fan in the bathroom. There were absolutely no COVID precautions visibly in effect at the hotel — staff and guests galavanted around and crowded inside of elevators with no masks. Breakfast was sub-par and mostly cold pastries. The location was wonderful, though for the price-point, I will definitely stay at a competitor when visiting again.
I lived in downtown Detroit and chose to stay here for my first trip back to visit. The location for wandering the area is perfect. Ice cream right out the front door. It is clean and unique. I loved the noise machine as I know the city can be noisy. We had everything we needed at our fingertips and the staff was very pleasant.
I would highly recommend the Element in Detroit! I have stayed in many nice hotels around the US and outside and the Element beats them all. The rooms are beautifully decorated and filled with light and I loved having the little kitchenette. The beds are super comfortable and everything is spotless! The hotel itself is beautiful and I highly recommend making a reservation at the bar - it is well worth it! I cant wait to come back. If you do come make sure to ask for Laura DiRita - she is outstanding and will make your stay perfection!
The rooms are on the spartan side but they are big and clean. The absolute best part of this hotel is the rooftop bar (A++) and the amazing front desk person who gave me a great, casual local restaurant recommendation and places to walk. I wish I knew her name for a shout out. I’d stay again just for the bar!
We loved this hotel for our family reunion. Art Deco lobby, extra large rooms, and a rooftop bar with a view of CoAmerica Park. Best of all: location, location, location. It is in the center of all of the trendy bars and restaurants, and walkable to the waterfront and Greektown. Would not stay anywhere else in the future.
The hotel is amazing. Its unique, modern, and has a great location. However, the walls seemed thin to the point that outside, and inside noises, became disruptive. We had a room next to the ally and the machinery would turn on and off, making it hard to hear in our room. The neighbors also seemed like they were in the room at times given how the sound would travel. The neighbors had a late night party and it sounded like they were in our bedroom. Overall, the stay was fantastic but be prepared to hear everything around you.
Made a long weekend out of a wedding stay and we enjoyed everything about the Element Detroit from the great people at check-in, efficient parking and the rooms and service everything was well done and easy. The location is the place to be for walking to everything and taking in Detroits renaissance. Well DoneWill stay again.
This is the 3rd or 4th time I have stayed here and just love the place. Laura at the front desk is out of this world and goes above and beyond to help everyone. I also got to experience the rooftop bar, WOW!!! Highly recommend this place. My only suggestion would be to care for the flooring in some of the rooms. Part of it was coming up in small places, but not a big dea.
My hotel of choice is Marriott when traveling for both work and leisure... This stay was in my hometown to facilitate my daughters 21st birthday celebration in downtown Detroit. I had not tried The Element brand yet, and since higher floors on the RenCen were not open, we decided to try the John R location for this stay - we liked the configurations of the rooms (2) and the location, but the real highlight is The Monarch rooftop bar...the view is stunning, the drinks interesting and delicious, the workers were VERY nice and accommodating, and we REALLY appreciated being able to have access without a reservation. Kudos, Marriott!!
The Element Detroit was perfect for a quick getaway for our 25th anniversary. The receptionist gave us small bottles of champagne when she heard it was our anniversary which was very sweet. The hotel was clean, nicely decorated, spacious, and was in a great location. On Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 1 pm the coffee shop across the street has live music. We will be back!
If you are looking for a great place where it is clean, comfortable and has a great location, this is the place. Additionally, it is housed in a gorgeous Detroit building and has an incredible rooftop bar. The staff is friendly and helpful. This place became my new favorite and will definitely be back.
My wife and I stayed here with our toddler. The staff was professional and courteous (Front desk staff and housekeeping manager made our stay exceptional, thank you!). The rooms were probably the cleanest we’ve ever stayed in. The beds were comfy. The area was safe. The view was great. The Opera House garage parking was convenient. We considered all the local Marriott hotels and settled on this one. We were not disappointed. Wish we could have stayed longer.
We needed a little get away due to the Pandemic so we visited Detroit and stayed at this hotel. The room was beautiful and the view was everything. The staff was warm and welcoming and very prompt when we had a small issue with a glass breaking in our room. We will definitely stay here again. Next time we will try the roof-top lounge.
Breakfast and valet parking people are very nice although the front desk is the rudest group of people Ive ever come across. Hanging up on me when I call for a request. Cant give me a mobile key they said their system isnt working right now so Im sol very rudely. Will never stay here again. There was blood on a washcloth as well as a string that looked like there was blood on it. Very disgusting
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. I checked in and the dishes weren’t put away, my coworker checked in and his dishes were dirty in his room. They advertise free access to the YMCA across the street. I spoke to the manager twice about it and he never was able to get me access. They advertise a pent house lounge on the top floor however it’s not even open to hotel guests majority of the time, it’s rented out to the public for events.I had an issue with my bill after check out and I’ve called twice and left two voice mails with no call back.Hotel staff seems very understaffed. I’m a big fan of Marriott hotels however this was a let down.
Thats what my wife said as soon as we arrived. Always a good sign! We found this hotel to be super convenient, super clean and super friendly. Staff was great. Its close to restaurants, Little Ceasars, the ballpark, etc. Rooms and amenities were modern and spotless. Great feel to the entire hotel and our stay. Good recommendations on dining.
Husband and I were delighted with The Element downtown Detroit. Able to valet our car and walk everywhere during our stay. Right in the middle of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and Detroit Riverfront. Spotlessly clean rooms, very new and modern, friendly helpful staff and quite spacious 2-queen room. Stayed in February and cant wait to return in summer to enjoy Detroit in the warmth! Front desk Parker was excellent as was valet. Thank you!
I dont even know where to begin. The staff at the check in counter was great upon arrival but when I got to my room and there was no towels and it appeared the bathroom wasnt clean, when I buzzed the front desk it took FOREVER to get someone on the phone and I was promised that someone be right up.Fast forward to an hour later I had to leave for dinner with clients. Still no sign of house keeping at my room so I walked down the hallway and snagged a fresh set of towels and some lotion off a nearby housekeeping cart. When I returned from dinner nearly 7 hours later (yes 7) they had STILL not come. Shameful. The next morning I went and took a look at that sad spread of breakfast on the second level. Wanting something with eggs I wait for the two people in front of me to get theirs cooked and then its my turn. The guy says Im going to go to the restroom real quick. I wait nearly ten minutes and finally just leave and find a nearby diner. This hotel is a shameful disgrace of the Marriott brand.
This was one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in! I enjoyed the location, view, and layout of the room, plus the staff were super helpful. I appreciated the concierge and parking staff, they answered all of my questions. Highly walkable area with tons of food and drink too.
I always wanted to stay at this beautiful hotel and a piece of history in Detroit. I was overwhelmed by the friendly staff and could not have been happier with my stay. They went above and beyond. The rooms are also spacious and modern, and the location is perfect. Thank you
I absolutely love this hotel!!! I have stayed here a few times just for a staycation in the city of Detroit each time my rooms where clean well stocked with kitchenware the views are beautiful on a high floor you get a very nice look at the city the staff is absolutely warm welcoming they are so friendly and meet all my needs the monarch club on the roof top is strictly beautiful!! The drinks food perfect so if you are every vacationing in the Detroit downtown area I must say stay here..
Absolutely beautiful hotel. Centrally located to all things we needed to do and see. Across the road from the PeopleMover which was very convenient so we could easily get to different locations of Detroit quickly.Room was clean and beautifully decorated. Especially liked the kitchenette type area with its own sink, dishes, refrigerator, and microwave.Rooms were well insulated, did not hear any noise, thought we were the only ones in the hotel. Totally enjoyed our stay.
Hotel has an incredible location downtown, and has valet or parking garages nearby. For the price I would expect a more comfortable bed and sheets. The rooms were redone recently and were clean which is nice, and having the Monarch Club upstairs with priority seating for hotel guests was a nice perk.
Livingroom was chilly and room could have been stocked with extra blankets and sheets for pull out couch, but overall the room was very nice. The bathroom needed more lighting as it was hard to see in there unless the big shade was open. I cant wait to stay again as it was an awesome experience with a beautiful view of the city and a nice rooftop environment. Close walking distance to Ford Field, friendly staff especially the valet employees. Breakfast could have been improved as the food was cold and it was an awkward setup, but thankful that it existed. The bed was very comfortable and the whole hotel was very clean and inviting.
To start off, we were promised check in at 3pm- We did not get our room until 4pm. To top it off, the hotel staff made us seem like we were the inconvenience for THEM not having our room ready. Once we were finally situated, we tried to go to the rooftop patio and were denied for them not having availability. Overall, we did not feel welcome or comfortable for what we paid.
I enjoyed my stay at the Element Detroit at the Metropolitan. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was the suspension of the breakfast program. Something as simple as a continental breakfast or a voucher to resturant close in proximity would have been a nice touch.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful, the staff was very friendly and the blueberry pancakes at breakfast stacked on cinnamon were delicious. All that the hotel has to offer Im shocked at no mirrors in the living area of the rooms or hallways. Our room seemed to never get warm even with the heat turned up to 86. Plus getting towels delivered to the room was a little slower than normal. But overall a great experience.
From check in to check out, our one night stay at the Element was a pleasure. The valet staff were prompt and helpful both when dropping off and retrieving our car. The front desk staff are warm and friendly with great recommendations for dining. I felt as if they truly cared about our short time in Detroit. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We didn’t use the kitchenette much but the fridge was great for storing our leftovers from the great meals we couldn’t finish nearby. The location is great for exploring some of the local dining and bar scene and the hotel is close to a QLINE stop, which we used to cheaply and efficiently explore other parts of the city. Would recommend this hotel to friends and family!
Great hotel. In the middle of it all in Detroit. Clean, room worth every penny, and very comfortable. Getting in and out can be tough because parking is off site and valet staff, at times, is limited. Plan more time than they say to get your vehicle...but thats life in a city. Great place, staff, and location, location, location.
The hotel is beautiful, super clean, friendly, and in a great location. Our family was so impressed with the renovation and the display of the before and after photos. The view from our room was spectacular. Also, traveling during Covid is different but we were so pleased with the staff safety and efforts to sanitize everything. Thanks for a perfect stay!
Just got married here and everything and everyone was AMAZING!! From the moment we discovered the venue to the time we left the entire staff exceeded the standard and kept the bar high! Thank for making our entire stay and wedding a dream come true. We will be back again and often.
I was allowed to book a room staff knew was not up to par when I told them about the shower leaking in the bathroom all the way into the kitchen area they already knew! And proceeded to tell me the maintenance can’t fix it until a day later. It was never fixed after constantly complaining room was never changed .I will never come back
Hotel is in a great location. Its clean with friendly staff especially the kitchen staff. I like that the room doesnt have the traditional carpet because of the kitchen so theres less dust to breathe in. Kitchenette area was stocked with pots and pans and the kitchen staff was kind enough to give me some spice to add to my cooking. I would recommend this hotel especially if you have kids and want to make your own food for them.
This hotel exceeded my expectation of Marriott brands. My 12 year old daughters mini vacation during a pandemic was one of the happiest moments in a months and Im glad that I got to experience it at this hotel.Thank you to the all the Staff members for making this trip wonderful!
When youre in Downtown Detroit stay at the Metropolitan. The building is a refurbished classic that is maintained immaculately, right on the heart of Downtown and has a rooftop bar that is easily the hottest spot in Town. The rooms are large (by city hotel standards), beds and sheets are comfortable and the service is top-notch. I believe we saw either cleaning or maintenance staff everytime we were in the the elevator or public area. The gym is well-appointed and best-of-all, they have to complimentary bicycles (check at the Front Desk) for guests to use. The Elemental brand is really neat and has a true boutique feel. Great job Marriott!
Girls Staycation, we were close to everything, and able to walk, very safe and clean , hi thread content in the sheets ,they cooked fresh eggs for us at the complimentary breakfast , we had drinks at the monarch on the rooftop of building and gazed the grand view of downtown.. unexpectedly upscale amenities
My cousin was able to snag this hotel at a great price for our mini trip home. The room was cleaned, the beds were comfortable, plenty of space and staff attentive. The gym is nicely fitted and you get to access the YMCA across the street. It was never noisy especially for the location. Walking distance to the heart of Downtown. Breakfast was least desirable and valet can become busy because of the location of the hotel/rooftop bar. The staff was so friendly and it made our stay worth it.
Stayed there on the weekend between Christmas and New Years for a little getaway. Friendly and attentive service from the minute we pulled up valet until we checked out. Everyone was especially kind to my 95 year old Mother who uses a walker. Theyve done a lovely job of renovating an old building, providing modern rooms while keeping its lovely art deco features. Our room was spacious and quiet and the kitchen facilities meant we could order in dinner and eat in a relaxed manner. I agree the breakfast are was a bit small but everyone seemed friendly and cooperative, even the Packers and Lions fans were getting along on game day.
This is the first time I have stayed at this property or any Element property. The renovation to the old building was fabulous and the accommodations were great. I loved the loft like feel of the hotel room. The staff could not have been nicer. From the front desk associates to the kitchen staff, everyone was wonderful. The espresso machine in the kitchen was a nice touch as was the welcome champagne. The complimentary breakfast was great.Hotel was convenient to Oprah House, Ford Field, people mover, Campus Martius, Comerica Park, and many other theaters and attractions The only negative about the hotel was that the hallways were loud and the noise carried through the doors into the room. It did not affect sleeping nor does it change my high opinion of the property. I would definitely stay here again.
We highly recommend the hotel. Staff were helpful with directions, suggestions. Rooms were large, very clean and beds were amazingly comfortable. The breakfast is served in a very cool space and the food options were healthy and satisfying. The location is excellent. It was convenient to have the car valet parked. The rooftop bar is a unique and wonderful amenity.
This is my second time staying at the Element Hotel. We previously stayed in the first month that it was open, before all of the floors were completed. Both times were only for one night, though this hotel is clearly designed for long-term stays, with kitchenettes in every room. Now its all done and there is even a new rooftop bar (the only one in Detroit), the Monarch Club. The club was very busy, but hotel guests get priority on the wait list. Our room was clean, modern, and comfortable, and included access to Netflix and HBO GO. Our room had amazing views of the city on two walls; it was filled with great natural light. The common areas were all very stylish and well decorated; it felt more like someones expensively decorated home than a hotel in the middle of a city. The breakfast is above and beyond. Its in a kitchen-like area, where staff cook eggs, potatoes, pastries, and more while youre there and leave it out family-style. There were also healthy options like fruit, granola, and yogurt. There was even an espresso machine in addition to coffee. During the week, there is draft beer and wine for free in the common areas as a courtesy to guests. We were there on a weekend, so we didnt get to take advantage. Valet service was convenient because you can text a number to request your car. Overall, I would highly recommend staying here. Much better bang for your buck than other downtown hotels. We will be returning!
Great property! Clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a little limited, eggs primarily, but overall ok. This hotel is a Westin Hotel and consistent with the brand. Wonderfully located. In the heart of downtown. In addition to the hotel gym guests have access to the YMCA just steps across the street. The Y is a full service Y with a full five lane 50 meter pool, rock climbing wall etc. I really appreciated this. Great property and will definitely chose the Element again.
Our visit was great! Front desk staff and manager were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and great size for 4 people. Great location with plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance.Only complaint is the staff/service on the rooftop bar, Monarch Club. This rooftop bar is NOT affiliated with the hotel, but guests do get priority access to it. We ordered a bottle of wine from our server and then within 5 minutes of receiving it, the security guard told us we had 5 minutes to leave the bar. If the server knew they were closing shortly, she shouldnt have taken our $. When we asked to take our wine downstairs, the server said we could, however when trying to leave the bar, the security guard and manager said we werent allowed to take it downstairs. Waste of $60!Would definitely stay at this hotel again, but not give my business to the unaffiliated Monarch Club.
Beautifully renovated, kind staff, comfortable bed. Having said that, my night was ruined and I got little rest because we could hear the couple next door, being intimate. I was appalled. The walls are so paper thin, we may as well have been in the same room with them. I could hear EVERYTHING. I had to call the front desk and complain about the noise. I came to this hotel expecting an awesome night in Detroit with Marriott quality and instead was so disgusted. I will never stay here again. I know this was a renovated building but they absolutely failed to add proper acoustic insulation between rooms, between floors and also in the hallway. All hard walls and floors and no acoustic control make it very echoey and loud. Very disappointed because I ready so many good reviews.
The staff (especially Erica) was SO kind and helpful when I sent flowers to my fiancé while he stayed here on a work trip. She remembered my call and had someone deliver the flowers directly to his room to surprise him, and called me afterwards to let me know they’d been delivered. Super impressed with the customer service!
Location, location, location. What a beautiful hotel. Stayed there for my wives bday. You can walk to everything. Went to multiple bars, and a great dinner, all on the same block. We actually just walked around after dinner. All 3 stadiums are right out the window. Will differently be back.
We came downtown in the late afternoon to enjoy a leisurely time before the concert. Walked around stopped in bars/pubs and had dinner at Cliff Bells which was delicious. The hotel is in a great location. Went to Lafayette Coney Island in the wee morning hours, took a Pedicab ride, driver was wonderful and full of information about the new Alleys which we did visit. Overall its so nice to see the city come alive again. We enjoyed our stay and we will do this again.
Impressed by room size and cleanliness . Gives the impression of loft living. Kitchenette nicely equipped. Bed,pillows are wonderful. Closet space a little limited. No one place for coats or suit bags . Unsure if unfinished look to common floor areas is part of design or to be finished later. This may actually be one of the Elements. Storage space may be issue for extended stays.Overall would stay again. Overall rating 4-5
We came with adult daughter to cheer her in in the Detroit Free Press Marathon. Beautiful studio room with kitchenette and large walk-in shower. Terrific staff. Good food. However, the two queen beds were spaced only about 10 inches or so from each wall, which made entry and exit from the bed very difficult for the person who slept closest to the walk. Plus, even with AAA discount, the overnight cost was exorbitant, and a Marriott points offset was not allowed due to special event pricing and rules. Marriott has built an attractive renovation with the hotel, but we will not stay there again under the same circumstances.
I can’t say enough about the wonderful, friendly staff. Everyone was so accommodating and welcoming from the minute we walked through the doors. The girls at the front desk, the evening Manager, housekeeping, the breakfast staff and valet all bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. The happy hour and breakfast were great! The atmosphere here was safe and cozy and super comfy beds. We stayed the night before Thanksgiving and it was pricey but so was everywhere else... and it was worth every penny. We’ve never been so impressed by a staff as we were at The Element. Many of them went above and beyond! One girl at the front desk even asked if she could help carry our bags!! Thank you for making us Feel so welcome and comfortable. Definitely will make this our first choice in Detroit!
Beautiful restoration, awesome staff, well appointed and clean rooms. Having the kitchenette was great because we were travelling with our kids. Morning breakfast, especially the yogurt station was nice although staying in that area of Detroit there are countless fantastic breakfast and brunch options which explains why it was a bit empty. Still nice to have a coffee and chat with staff, all of whom were very friendly and helpful. Would love to stay here again.
The Element Detroit was the perfect location for our recent visit. It was close to the DPM and riding it also help us see more of downtown and what we might want to visit at another time. The hotel itself was amazing. Being in an older building with so much character was a real bonus to me. Our room was very accommodating and we enjoyed a restful sleep each night. The hotel staff, food and beverage staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. Ashley and Ian, at the front desk, were very knowledgeable and able to answer all our concerns. They made traveling to and from destinations so easy and stress free. Anything from restaurant choices, to the best way to get to the airport were answered with ease and made it very easy to make our decisions. We will definitely stay here the next time in Detroit.
Excellent experience at The Element in Detroit. The hotel was clean. The beds were great and comfortable. Linens and pillows were comfy! There are refrigerators and microwaves in the room. Breakfast is wonderful!! Fresh fruit, yogurt bar, real eggs, bagels, fresh hot coffee! Great location! My only complaint is that I lost the back to my watch and girl at the front desk offered no help. She didnt call house keeping or offer any help what so ever.
My son and I had a chance to stay in this refreshed historic building steps away from Comerica Park, Greektown and Woodward Avenue. Staff was accommodating, professional and friendly. The suite was amazingly spacious and the views of downtown were great! We loved the access we had to the YMCA and it was easy to get around via the People Mover Station across the street from the hotel. We would have liked to have more elevators in operation.
I moved away from Detroit a couple of years ago and after bouncing around the country since, I just wanted to see home. I was amazed at the energy of downtown. The hotel was clean and had all the amenities to cook in your room if you’d like, which is a great option to have for long stays. I saw the rooftop bar a little before it opened and it looks fantastic as well. Room was comfortable in every aspect.
Stayed only one night for a fun night out in Detroit. Location is perfect, easy access to people mover stop and plenty of bars/restaurants within walking distance. Each room has a kitchen/kitchenette so for longer stays, this would be perfect having the stove, fridge/freezer, microwave. Only complaint was that housekeeping was knocking on our door at 9:45am and check out is supposed to be noon but that mix up could just be due to the hotel only opening within the last couple months. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, it was way better than what other hotels have offered. Freshly prepared eggs, bacon and really good potatoes! They also had a yogurt bar, bagels, muffins, and cereal as well as coffee and juices. Would suggest management put carpets in the hallways as they echo a lot. Overall, great place and we will be back again.
If you want to stay in a great hotel,,, then stay here at the Element!! The service was outstanding from the time we checked in all the way until we left the next day. The room was clean, cool and quiet.. The bed was so comfortable and the pillows! My wife is going to order these pillows for our home!! The complimentary breakfast was a great start. This is a great location to see the sites around Detroit. Took the Qline to Little Caesars Arena for Queen concert.. Again stay here and you wont be disappointed! Thanks Don
The room was very light and clean, the windows gave an excellent view and provided a ton of natural light which we enjoyed, could’ve used another set of towels but the shower was great.Giving 4 stars because the parking that we received at a discounted rate was either at the opera house, a block away or 4 blocks down somewhere else. We parked at the opera house but for most of our trip the garage was closed due to “maintenance” or something else that prevented non-monthly parker’s access to the garage. Hotel staff was very pleasant, overall we enjoyed our stay and would book again, close proximity to good food for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Super from start to finish. Beautiful room. Great view from the higher floors. Happy hour beer, wine, cheese, and bread. Yummy full and hot breakfast with chef prepared plate of the day (our day was english muffin avo toast with a sunny side up egg). Service was friend and professional across the board. Laura was the star of the stay. She was working at night and road the elevator with us and then was the chef for breakfast. Great conversation. Intelligent, caring, and interesting. A bit pricey but phenomenal location in a city that is Da Place to be! Attached pic is from roof top stylish bar with epic view
We were first greeted by our Valet, Roy. He was so positive and cheerful, it was a great start to the stay. We then were helped by Molly and the front desk, who was able to unexpectedly accommodate us with a King Suite. (Talk about an amazing girls weekend!)The room was so clean, spacious and beautiful. The bed was very comfortable. We slept great!
Nice staff very friendly and room was spacious and quiet. However breakfast needs more option like cook to order for eggs and another meat selection. also valet even though they was nice riding around the block a few times before they could take my car was annoying. The desk and management was nice and friendly. I enjoyed my stay and will return soon
I forgot my wallet in my suite, they were kind enough to email me about it after I called. I never got a call back, not a replying email about sending it because I dont live in the area. Its been 2 weeks and my wallet still hasnt arrived, neither a phone call or email.
Our first stay at The Element was perfect. Chosen for the location but it was right on target for so much more. We enjoyed the well appointed hotel atmosphere with its somewhat unique simplicity. From the moment we drove up we were greeted by friendly staff. Looking forward to getting back very soon.
This hotel was absolutely gorgeous, in a great location, and was affordable when compared to other hotels in the area. The staff was friendly and courteous, the complimentary breakfast was incredible, and our city view room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and comfortable. I would definitely recommend the Element for your next stay in Detroit.
Excellent location and amenities especially for long term stay, or if you just prefer to prepare your own meals. Well supplied kitchenette, and clean and modern rooms. As always expected from a Westin/Marriott property, the staff is friendly and welcoming. Pet friendly.
The hotel is really nice. The decor is great and modern. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food at breakfast is not your typical continental breakfast but made fresh. There is a happy hour with light appetizer and beer/wine. The internet is fast and reliable. The only downside to the internet is that you have to accept the terms every day. The only thing that I do not like about the hotel is the noise. But it is in the middle of a vibrant downtown.
The building was cool and new. The room is fairly interesting and urban but noise isolation is bad. Even though the hotel is new but I already found things not maintained properly such as the rubber door surrounding. My main problem is that my room was not cleaned up even after I specifically told the front desk before I left for the day to inform the housekeeping to clean up my room.
A beautiful building near Tiger Stadium in a vibrant area. However, the hotel staff were lacking. A few examples:Early Check In – We requested early check in however our room was not ready when we got there. Not a problem. The front desk promised to call us as soon as it was ready. They called at 3:45 or 45 minutes after our regular check in. I believe they forgot all about us.Breakfast – I stopped down for coffee and fruit in the morning. Not once was I greeted by hotel staff when I entered, and no one discussed what was available.Coffee service – The hotel had coffee service setup near the front desk like every other hotel. When I tried the coffee (9:30 on one morning and 10:30 the following day) the coffee was ice cold. Who knows how long it was there but it certainly wasn’t that day’s coffee. Come on, if your going to have a coffee service set up, make sure put out fresh coffee each day.
This new spot is perfect for someone who really likes to have their own space - i.e. having a kitchen with a full sized refrigerator, a nice large shower, a sectional sofa, etc. As a gym rat, I really enjoyed that they hook you up with access to the YMCA across the street. The YMC has a great gym, pool, and climbing wall, b-ball cts, etc. And the complimentary breakfast was perfect - not to heavy, good options, friendly staff. Also - if youre doing a long term stay - this would be where I would go,It lacks some of the formalities of a standard hotel (fancy hotel bar, restaurant, opulent lobby, etc.) but Im kind of over that stuff. Ive stayed at the Westin and Aloft nearby several times and theyre both great properties. The Element offers something a little different: a hotel that offers the personality of being your home. They have a nice beer and wine happy hour and a polished no-nonsense lobby in a cool old building. Ill be coming back.
Marriott continues to be our brand of choice, and the Element never disappoints. This hotel is our favorite “staycation” hotel. The decor is modern with wonderful tributes to the buildings origin. The rooms are well appointed with thoughtful touches and the breakfast is fantastic. Don’t forget to enjoy a cocktail at the Monarch for one of a kind views.
The beds are amazing. Very comfortable. The Monarch Club (not affiliated with the Westin) has an incredible view of the city, however, the service leaves a lot to be desired. Despite that, the service at the hotel including the GM, was extremely friendly and they went above and beyond.
Great location for our needs: Wright & Co., The Candy Bar, and Greek Town Casino. We were disappointed we could not get into the Monarch Club. The breakfast area left a lot to be desired but the chef went the extra mile and me made delicious gluten free muffins. We had some water seeping in from the next unit, I would have like to see a discount for the issue. The elevator is slow and the stairwells still need a lot of renovation. The towels were great and we did enjoy the coffee and tea in real mugs in the room in the morning. Pricey!
Right outside the room was a building with a camera staring right in our window. elevators right next to room had to listen to that all night. took over 20 mins to valet car at check in, over an HOUR to retrieve car upon checkout. was told breakfast on all confirmations of booking and none was offered. restaurant in hotel too fancy to eat at, too expensive so we had to walk 5 blocks for food.
Its all in the details: no breakfast, no shower soap,no place to put your foot while shaving, no water cup in the bathroom. Asked 3 times for housekeeping (currently not a thing during covid) and still hadnt received at 5pm. There are many other hotels in the area striving for business during this time- Id suggest going to another one
What a great addition to Detroit. The location is ideal, the design elegant and modern, and the staff excellently trained and professional. I made my reservation before the hotel was actually open, so there were a few minor challenges with getting questions answered. However, once the hotel was open, every member of the staff was extremely helpful. My only minor complaint is with the valet parking. I circled the block multiple times trying to find the valet parking. A simple sign would have been much appreciated. I would definitely recommend this hotel when visiting Detroit.
Cool Hotel. This hotel seems to have renovated a former apartment complex of some sort. It seems as though they kept the original flooring throughout the hallways. This hotel provides a unique feel, as if youre staying at an apartment, a home away from home feel. The hotel is located in a great spot downtown thats in walking distance of everything Downtown Detroit has to offer. Cool hotel with a unique feel and experience.
The folks working the Front Desk were tremendous, even though it was a bit busy. They were professional, smooth and answered all questions. The building is gorgeous, our room was immaculate and the views of Detroit are nothing short of amazing. Whether for business or pleasure, be sure to stay here your next time in Town. As an added bonus, the Hotel has two complimentary bicycles that you can use to explore more of Detroit
Staff was great, atmosphere was great, room was super clean and comfy.Room was noisy. I had 802 and the street (car) noise was a bit much. I put ear plugs in and slept like a baby though. There was also an occasional loud noise from the mechanical room. While the valets were all very nice and helpful (as with all of the staff), it was very slow getting our car.I really want to give 5 stars, but honestly cant.
Stayed at the hotel for a very recent staycation and had an excellent time. The location is very convenient, the service was fantastic, the room was spacious and had a great view, there was a crib in the room as requested, The Monarch Club is a great place to grab a cocktail, and they offer the best continental breakfast that Ive had in recent memory.
The marble floors are beautiful and the building has been nicely renovated. Very spacious corner room with a lot of windows and space. Love the location. A few blocks (15-20 min) from the Little Ceasars Arena, Ford and Comerica stadiums. Nice restaurants within walking distance.
The hotel and room was clean and well cared for. The bathroom was very nice and spacious with a great shower. I also enjoyed the breakfast with fresh made items right in front of you that were on the healthier side.A big issue is that there is virtually no soundproofing in the rooms. When the person next door turned on their tv we could hear everything. So make sure to use earplugs.Overall it seems like the Element is trying to convey/provide luxury accommodations that compete with the Shinola Hotel just up the street, but at a lower price. Some of the ways they are trying to cut back on costs show, and they are slightly missing that mark. This wasnt a bad place to stay and I would stay there again, but still felt they should have delivered a little more considering the cost.
Our first trip to Detroit and we all decided to come back every year! The Element Detroit is in a prime location. We didnt need our vehicle all weekend because we walked everywhere and it was very safe and clean. My Family are Detroit Lions fans and we came up for the December 15th game. Ford Field is awesome and is in walking distance from hotel. Great food, great people in Detroit. I walked 27 miles during my stay and felt completely safe. Hotel is clean, charming and has great views from the rooftop. Walk to the waterfront before the sun rises and look back at City Skyline. It is refreshing. You feel the life in Detroit and Im so happy it is thriving. Thank you Element Detroit for a wonderful stay. See you in 2020
This hotel was amazing! The front desk staff, the valet, the breakfast staff...everyone was so helpful and friendly. Ashley at the front desk was so kind in checking me in and our room was a studio king that was beautiful and comfortable. Would highly recommend this hotel! Close to many great restaurants and easy to walk to events and concerts.
I had a great stay at the Element. It was located right in the heart of downtown Detroit near excellent restaurants and shops. Walk to riverfront to enjoy live music, park areas and beautiful architecture or to Comerica Park for a Tigers game. The hotel is beautifully restored and the Metropolitan Club on the top floor has the most amazing views in every directions. I wish I could have stayed longer and plan on a return visit, soon!
Every detail from the valet, checking in, the rooms, and service was awesome. This will b a 5 star hotel when everything is done and completed. They even poured my wife a glass of champagne when they realized it was her birthday. The kitchenette in the would make an extended stay feel more like home and you cant much better access to all the amenities that downtown Detroit has to offer. Every stadium is within 1/2 mile and and a block from Woodward! Just perfect.
A favorite for the girlfriend and myself. Great central location and clean rooms with an awesome view. Staff treats us like family, but you know, not like close family thats super annoying; more like that respectful distant cousin. Close to a lot of activities and restaurants within walking distance, even in the winter.
The Element in the Metropolitan building is a beautiful hotel in a great location a block from Woodward. The hotel was just renovated and has a wonderful complimentary breakfast. On top of the Metropolitan building is the Monarch club. It has great views of the city from three different outdoor terraces. I highly recommend both places!
Loved the hotel and the room. Roof deck was awesome (having to explain you were a guest and not in the waitlist for public access to roof was slightly annoying, but there are worse things in life, right?). Location was the highlight. Close to everything from Sports, food, drinks and art, it’s all there. Friendly staff and will certainly be back. GO TO THE SKIP AND THE DIME STORE!
We had a large room on a higher floor with a beautiful view of the Opera House. Everything was new and clean. The breakfast was exceptional and included a cook to make eggs to order. There is also an espresso/cappuccino machine in the breakfast room that made a delicious drink.
Rather unimpressed with this property. Started when I tried several times to check in via the app and get a digital key - failed every time. Upon physical check in, I was advised that my upgrade request appeared to be granted (though the room didn’t seem to be upgraded at all). We were facing a 24-hour elevated train station that you could hear all night. The room darkening shades let plenty of sunrise light in. Room was clean and modern, just not conducive to a good sleep.Breakfast looked plentiful, but hot foods were overcooked/dried out (we were there early on in the service, so quite surprising). Odd that the egg cooking took place in the open right where people congregated. The coffee machine was broken and hand fruit was mouldy! The overpriced valet (no self park alternatives offered) told us our car was ready, so we rushed downstairs to check out only to be told that it was a mistake and the car would be another 10 minutes (turned into 20+ minutes).Overall mediocre experience in an area with other options.
Great service overall; there have been a few small new hotel kinks to get over such as interrupted internet service and loss of cable TV connection during my stays but overall I really like the hotel space. I like the eco-friendly theme. Molly at the front desk has a customer centric attitude and great welcoming demeanor. The hotel staff downstairs is much more pleasant than the rooftop (TMC) staff - night and day difference.
The new Element Hotel is less than 30 minutes from our home but we really enjoyed our holiday weekend stay in the D. This property isnt necessarily luxurious but it is very stylish crisp clean comfortable modern and intriguing with the history of the Metropolitan Building and its trendy rooftop Monarch Club with lively bar, outdoor fire-pits and amazing views. Our vehicle didnt budge all weekend as we walked everywhere including major league sporting events, amazing restaurants, Woodward Ave shopping, Opera House and much more from this ideal central location. Downtown Detroit has made an amazing comeback. It is clean, festive and sparkling for the holidays with tremendous urban energy. And no worries--it is very safe!
Element is very lovely. They do have a few kinks to work out, especially with breakfast. The area is nice but service was a bit spotty. Also, the windows overlook the dumpsters. Overall, the room and the staff and the hotel itself are really beautiful. Love the kitchenette!
The Element was a beautiful new building with obvious expense put into it. We LOVE being in downtown Detroit and appreciated the easy walking distances to many places of interest. Timing and staffing for breakfast and valet were not ready for the amount of people at the hotel.
My wife and I attended an event at the FOX theater and decided to stay overnight. The hotels location is GREAT for downtown Detroit exploring, as its withing close proximity of all there is to offer. the hotel gives you a unique apartment- Style, feel at home experience.
If youre doing an evening in Detroit Id highly recommend this hotel. The Element is well staffed, has fine amenities and is really well located for an evening out. We did a dinner/evening downtown for my wifes 60th birthday and the Element was a great place for us to spend the night.
For an upscale hotel, it has no mirrors. There is only a mirror in the bathroom. This is a big deal when your companion is using the bathroom or you just need a mirror to look at before you walk out the door. Not even a mirror in the hallways by the elevators. We wont be staying here again especially after paying $1300 for 3 days.
Hotel is located very close to Grand Circus Park, stadiums and Opera House, as well as area restaurants and bars. Suites are clean and have a kitchen and living room which would be convenient for multi-day travelers. Limited breakfast options (no protein) leave a little to be desired on that front but that’s the only “criticism.” Staff was charismatic and helpful.
Everything would have been fine except 1) the hallways echoed into the room, 2) the staff at the rooftop bar were the rudest people I have ever interacted with at a marriott property. Our friends had just gone up for a drink with no issue and were waiting for us when they stopped us and said 50 people were waiting downstairs, and continued to be rude and condensing. We said forget it, and they said well ok, come in. I then passed and said I would never be getting a drink there. We headed to the lobby where there were exactly zero people in line. I am not sure if the hotel owns this place but it doesnt reflect well on the property.
Great location for access to shopping, dining, sports facilities. Across the street from the People Mover station. Rooms are clean, decent sized; staff is very professional, friendly, cordial and responsive. That said, the window design of the building allows an enormous amount of street noise to pour through from dusk to dawn. If anyone is a light sleeper, this could be a problem. Loud car music, motorcycles, people outside bars/restaurants, People Mover rail noise, sirens, construction site noise at 6 AM, etc. It made for some miserable sleeping. Im still recovering. The street noise prevents me from giving excellent ratings about our stay. If I stayed here again, I would not stay facing the street, even though city view is nicer than staring at a brick building wall.
Only reason for not giving 5 stars is the door. It is a wooden door but very thin for what is more of an upscale hotel. As it is, it was quite loud as people were coming in after a night of adventure in the D.Very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and shower, plenty of room to get last minute work done.
The building was very clean and modern. However, still under construction. Loved the location, easy to walk everywhere. The hallways and bedrooms have tile throughout which allows every noise to carry. At times found it hard to sleep in the morning, could hear every noise in the hallway. There are nicer hotels to stay at in Detroit for equal or less money.

2022-06-16I try to be fair and I dont rate a business one star unless its truly deserved. However I would not recommend the Element hotel Detroit.Lets start with the positives,1. The Monarch club is nice and has a few food choices which makes service fast.2. Most of the Staff are polite3. The breakfast is okay as well, when its not left over eggs from the previous day. The fresh muffins are good.Serious negatives1.VERY UNSAFE2. I had over $1,500 in parking fees charged to my account when I did not valet park or park period with the element hotel at all during my stay.3.Some of the housekeeping staff are very dishonest and steal from guest rooms and are very dishonest to guest.4. The hotel is very out of control at times, people are so drunk and high off drugs that they are fighting, arguing and banging on stuff in the hall ways at 2am, makes you feel very unsafe. I was afraid to go out into the hallway.5.Rooms are literally falling apart from domestic violence and people fighting in the rooms. If I had to choose a hotel to reside at in downtown Detroit I would choose Shinola hotel for my safety and peace of mind. I have stayed there and never had any problems always very pleasant.

2021-10-28Beautiful new property. Love the flooring in the rooms and the simple but elegant appointments. The building itself is beautiful and they did a great job maintaining a feel for the original history of the space in the lobby area. Didnt get a chance to see the rooftop bar area but hoping to make that happen on a future trip. Great views from our room - recommend the higher floors with the room number ending in 10 - corner room gave us beautiful views of downtown. Was centrally located and within walking distance of a ton of attractions. The downtown area was lively and fun. Staff was helpful, pleasant and provided great customer service. Great stay!

2022-01-03I love that they renovated this building and kept most of the original architecture, which might I add is breath takingly beautiful!. The staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast offered was more than I expected. Its location is perfectly placed for someone visiting as there are many shops and wonderful landmarks within walking distance. The room was cute and gave this home away from home feel, just wish the beds were a little more comfortable. All in all this is my first go to next time I am in town!!!!

2021-12-30Great location and restoration of a historic landmark. Plenty of dining venues in walking distance as well as winter ice skating.Staff was accommodating of special requests. Enjoyed breakfast which was standard mix of hot and cold foods.Debated on parking but went with the $35 valet provided by the hotel which gave best convenience and piece of mind.

2022-03-06Really can’t say enough great things about this hotel! It’s well-priced, and accordingly sort of a no-frills experience, but it does all the important things right. Gives you the feel of staying in a boutique hotel, without the boutique price tag. It’s in a gorgeous historic building, perfectly located very central to Detroit’s entertainment district. Modern, updated rooms that feel clean and fresh, with very comfortable bedding. Free wifi, free breakfast, and reasonably priced valet parking. This is my go-to Detroit hotel!

2022-05-20This might be the best business hotel Ive ever stayed in! So much to highlight in a stay I thoroughly enjoyed: fabulous service from everyone; very comfortable, quiet, big, modern rooms with awesome beds and white noise machines; perfectly silent air conditioning; fantastic desks, ergo chairs(!) and WiFi for work; a full kitchen with stove and dishwasher that I could have had my meals in; decent hotel gym; access to the fantastic YMCA Detroit next door if you really want to stay fit; nice, healthy breakfasts and cooked omelettes in what is supposed to be a 3-star hotel(?); perfect location; great restaurants nearby; cool restoration of a beautiful old building. Cant wait to come back. I hope all element hotels are like this.

2022-07-06Location, location, location, easy walking distance to the stadium, campus Marsh, restaurants, pubs and so much more. Clean cool rooms. For those who need white noise there is a sound canceling machine in the room. Pleasant friendly staff.

2022-01-18Beautiful hotel but hard to find parking if youre driving into the city since its right downtown. Front desk staff was friendly, but parking was such a struggle. Had to forfeit and pay the $30+ for valet which was a little steep for one night. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay.

2022-04-25Lovely hotel. Terrible restaurant. Pretty views of the city, with an even better view of racism on display in the Penthouse restaurant. This sleek cocktail lounge is graced with the GM, Karen, what a fitting name. She goes out of her way, to make you feel as uncomfortable as possible, if your skin ranges from a certain hue. Karen has told a black staff member ,”you’re one of the good ones,” made a staff member fill out invites for her daughter’s birthday party while on the clock, and ensuring that guests of color have no desire to come back. It is no coincidence, that majority of the complaint range from Blacks, Chaldeans, Arabs, and Asians. The management team makes a true effort, to keep the restaurant as white as possible. Has no one noticed the lack of representation in The Monarch Club, that is situated in the blackest city in America? Make no mistake, this is very intentional. If you love racism served with an overpriced pretty cocktail, please make a reservation and ask for the queen of the Karen’s, Mrs. Karen Patten.

2022-02-03Sleep like a baby. No regrets. Had a city view although its more of a city scene, the floors arent high enough to actually see the city as it is in the GM building a few miles away. But had a great experience for a little impromptu staycation. Tip: booking online saves you a few dollars.
