Comment: The Mavericks van was a good size for 3 people for 7 days. The vehicle was kitted out in a way that made sense. I would rent from here again.

Comment: We rented a Maverick Campervan for 10 days to drive from Denver to LA and had the trip of a lifetime! Neither of us are really the “camping type” but the Escape Campervan made it easy to stay overnight inside National Parks and cover huge distances between them on the road so it was the perfect choice for us. The kitchen set up was everything we needed (with the rented kitchen set), the bed was surprisingly comfortable even with the rented bedding, and our van even had Bluetooth for our music needs which was an unexpected bonus. We rented the camping chairs and camping table too (although most of the camping sites we booked had tables) but it certainly was useful to have our own gear for picnics and lunch stops on the road. We also paid for the full insurance and were so grateful for that when we unfortunately had a crash on our final day. Dealing with the Escape team throughout that incident was nothing short of amazing though - they were concerned for us and helped us navigate the next steps with no blame or shame. We literally handed back the keys in LA and walked away with no further action needed despite significant damage to the van! The Denver team went above and beyond for us at pick up too by ensuring we had a good charger in our van and taking extra time with us to make sure we felt comfortable with our van and the set up. We will absolutely hire another Escape Campervan in the future. RIP to our dragon van though. We hope she can get back on the road soon!

Comment: My girlfriend and I took the Maverick from LA through Red rocks, Sequoia, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe then dropped off in SF.The van set up was excellent, very roomy bed space for two people. The stove worked great, as did the fridge and the kitchenette had plenty of space for all your needs. The staff was also great particularly in San Francisco who drove us to the BART station after drop off which we thought was above and beyond.Only issues we had were the van had an issues with the tire pressure sensor which I’m aware can be a malfunction with the sensor not the tire and upon inspection by a third party that’s what it was. I have no issue with the malfunction rather I would’ve appreciated being notified in advance for peace of mind sake. Our other issue is the location of the SF office is actually in San Jose about an hour away from SF where we flew in. This makes a difference when lugging around baggage. Again like the sensor, it was more of a communication issue. Had I been notified of both I would have nothing to complain about! We had an excellent time and we would do it again. Thanks!

Comment: Rented the Maverick Campervan for Coachella. It was such an easy process. Chris helped me when I picked it up and when I dropped off. I received good communication emails on my pricing, I did not encounter “hidden” fees. I knew what it was going in. The bed was super comfortable. And tons of room. It was just me and my kiddo attending but we were super pleased! Will be renting from themNext year! Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures 🤦🏽‍♀️ this was the one on loading up and leaving haha

Comment: We had a fine one-way trip from Seattle to Los Angeles. Our only disappointment is we called in December of 2023 to secure the unlimited mileage promotion at $36/day and the support agent stated we could simply purchase that at the time of pick up. When we attempted to do so we were advised that the purchase needed to be by 1/31/24. We advised local Seattle agent of what we were told back in December but our request was not honored. Our inability to add the unlimited mileage added stress and limited our travel ability on our week long trip.

Comment: We had a really good experience renting the maverick for the first time to go to Coachella. The van is kind of old, but a great deal for the price. I was a little bit hesitant to drive it because the vans are huge and I am a 4’10 girl, but it was easier to drive than I expected. There’s not as many blind spots as I expected, and if you’re not stuck in traffic the drive isn’t bad at all. Having a sink and kitchen in the back for car camping was soooo convenient, they even had a light that was on a separate batter that charged through solar panels for us to use when it was night time. The only issue I had with my van was that the trunk doors were hard to open, I found the trick to it was pulling at a certain spot to get it open, otherwise you’d have to reach over the back seat and open it from inside. The black out curtains worked great so the sun doesn’t wake you up in the morning and you can also crack the windows open and not have to worry about the dust blowing straight at you when you slept. The “bed” was kind of lumpy so I’d definitely recommend bringing a mat or a mattress topper to put over it before you put the sheets on if you’re very particular about that. They also have additional things you can rent or buy for the camper van if you come from out of town like tables and chairs. The staff was great from start to finish, the camper was ready for pick up as soon as we got there on Thursday morning. They were even able to accommodate me for an early pick up time the day of. I forgot her name, but the woman who helped us. She was white and had curly hair, was kind enough to let us know how much more it would be to upgrade from a maverick to a Del Mar even though we ended up just using the maverick. When we brought the camper back, Chris was super quick with getting me in and out of there, he told me not to worry about the window paint we used to decorate our van and that it wasn’t extra to wash it off. They also have a cute communal cubby thing where you can leave things you probably won’t need for future campers to take like books, used propane tanks, lighters, etc. I left a few items inside and then took home some window crayons for next year’s Coachella camping. My group and I will definitely be using them again if we go to future Coachella’s!

Comment: People at office were really nice. (I even forgot my hiking shoes in the van and they held onto them for me for a few days so I could pick them up on my way to the airport.)Checkout and check-in were extremely efficient. Location of LA pickup spot relative to airport is super convenient. Designs on outside of vans are very fun. (We got a van covered in bright fish in the midst of an atmospheric river rain event. Not sure if staff meant to be funny, but we thought it was very humorous to be out on the road in the rain covered in fish! 🤣)Van worked well for our purposes. Fridge held way more than I thought it would when looking online. Kitchen worked really well and basin, sponge, and dish soap provided were very much appreciated. Bed set up was a bit of a pain so we made it once and left it set up.Wish dog cleaning fee was on a sliding scale rather than a flat fee. I would guess few people NOT traveling with pets have turned in a cleaner van than we did traveling with our 16-lb dog!Overall it was great. We’re sorry we never took any pictures of the van itself during our adventures!

Comment: My partner and I had a great experience with escape camper van. The process was smooth- we rented the Del Mar for 4 nights had plenty of room and traveled through out southern CA and had a few add ons coming to about $800 including mileage (700) and the no worries insurance we did book when they were having a special. I would for sure book again and recommend.

Comment: Rent the Jeep, broke down after the 4th day in Palm Springs on an 8-day trip, you guys called a towing co. to jump-start - and then we had to drive back to LA late at night (then it died again in a gas station where no help was provided that we had to ask someone in the gas station to help us jump start again and was told the battery is clearly damaged for some weird reason). Promised to have a new one delivered to our LA campground - and was told the next morning there was no availability over the phone so nothing happened. So we then decided to rent a new car from a general car rental company nearby and returned the Jeep, where the worker in the office claimed they had the Santa Cruz van I wanted and were not willing to offer any refund because they were ready to swap... Blamed me for your miscommunication. Had to argue hard to get my money back and it was not a pleasant thing to do.I camped with your company before for a month-long trip and loved it, but this time 1) not good roadside assistant support, 2) poor car quality, 3) miscommunication on the follow up on the broken car, would hope your company does better~

Comment: We will definitely be doing this again! The rental process was easy - the website had almost all the information I wanted, and the few extra questions were quickly answered with the little chat button.Pick up, a breeze. Everything was ready when we arrived, and we had time to ask any questions not answered by the YouTube video.Drop off, equally easy. We tossed our trash, added non perishables to the donation cabinet, and were checked out in no time. Staff was friendly, and all costs came out as expected. I appreciated that the pre-paid miles cost the same as the miles we did not prepay for - no extra fees! The van was great! We got a Mesa; with how early it gets dark in January we wanted a comfortable interior for playing board games. Switching from the table to the bed set up was pretty quick once we got the hang of it. The mattress left a little to be desired, but there is only so much luxury one can expect while camping. We rented the kitchen kit, and it was more dishes than we needed. But everything fit nicely in the tub so the extras werent cumbersome.Driving a biggish rig for the first time in LA rush hour traffic was a little stressful, but by day 2 it felt quite natural. If you can get out of the city sooner than us, wed recommend it!We drove 1033 miles to visit Joshua Tree and Death Valley National Parks. We loved it. Being able to make lunch out the back whenever we were hungry, pack up and leave in ten minutes, and having spacious front seats was all an ideal way to make this trek. Highly recommend.

Comment: So you want my honest opinion??? Since you asked, I will never use your services again, your rude employee Miguel made sure I remember him, charged me $52 or $55 dollars extra just because I was late about 45 minutes, acting as if you guys were sold out for the day and really needed the van that very moment, pathetic!!! Charged me $33 dollars per day about $99 dollars for the original 3 days then charged me the extra money for the 45 minutes I was late!!! Wow, and after I confronted him about it, he gave me a arrogant attitude as if he could care less about me, I am in a wheelchair, and I was not feeling well, not to mention that in there parking lot they dont have a handicap parking spot, so nowhere to park and it was full of vans, im not trying to get run over specially if I get in to it with one of your employees then mysteriously I get hit or run over by accident, Im good with that, but it is what it is, Happy New Years and take care!!!

Comment: Our three-week adventure with Escape Campervans was an absolute dream. From the moment we picked up our vibrantly painted and well-equipped camper. The vehicle was clean, spacious, and provided us with everything we needed for our journey along the West Coast. For having already done 330.000 miles the vehicle was in absolutely great shape.Exploring six different national parks became an amazing experience thanks to the reliability and comfort of the camper. Whether we were navigating through winding roads or settling in for a night under the stars, the vans functionality was just what we needed. We booked the van along with a bedding set, the kitchen set, a propane bottle, the bugsocs and 2 chairs, which we would absolutely recommend. That way you are ready to hit the road as soon as you get to your rental. The staffs professionalism and helpfulness at the rental location made the whole process seamless, ensuring we were well-prepared for our adventure ahead.Escape Campervans facilitated an experience beyond compare, and we will surely be planning our next adventure with them again. If youre seeking an incredible way to explore the West Coasts, Escape Campervans is undoubtedly the way to go!

Comment: Escape campervan LA did a good service. The van was lovely and had everything you needed for a great roadtrip :) The only thing we have to say is that the 100 miles a day is too low in a country like USA but the price per extra mile is okay so still 5 stars!

Comment: Let me just start by saying we definitely got the oldest campervan on the road with the most boring & chipped paint job possible which was an extreme disappointment compared to the rest of the beautifully painted campervans in the lot & on the road. The lady at pickup said all the vans were pre-booked so she wasn’t able to get us a different one. Ours looked like maybe the drivers side had been repainted at one point but the passenger side of the van looked neglected. We had the Maverick van, pickup in LA and drop off in San Fran (actually Milpitas because the San Fran lot closed?)-the interior media system had clearly been replaced already with an older system that requires an aux cord in order to play your phone on the speakers however, the latest apple iphones do not even have aux ports anymore and the usb port kept reading “N/A usb” whenever we tried to connect our iPhones to it which was another disappointment. We ended up buying a portable bluetooth speaker in order to listen to our own music and be able to use audio tour apps.-The constant manifold sound with acceleration was also terrible to listen to the entire trip.-We paid extra to get the camp chair package; the camp chairs are the smallest, cheapest, most uncomfortable camp chairs I’ve ever seen or sat in, not to mention ours had stains from the previous users. If I didn’t know any better I could of sworn these were children’s chairs.. as my husband & I found these were very very small for us average sized adults.-The side doors to the van could use some latches to hold them open as many of the campsites we stayed at in California did not have any areas with flat terrain so the doors always swung closed on you every time you would try to open them to get in or out of the van.-The bedding package had 2 pillows, a fitting sheet, and comforter which did the trick for sleep; the cushions that fold into a bed were surprisingly quite comfortable.-The kitchen package had everything we needed to cook simple camp meals; although the teetowel they supplied to dry dishes is a material that does not actually dry, it just pushes the water around making an ever bigger mess, so be sure to buy paper towels for your trip! (We also used the papertowels for our coffee filters in the pour-over drip coffee attachment that was included with the kitchen kit.)-The velcros to hold the curtains together need improvement- we found they were either missing, ripped out or didn’t exist; so when we wanted to pull the curtains closed across all windows, we weren’t able to get a solid seal and each window had gaps where light would come through and privacy was not able to be maintained.-The canopy we also purchased extra thinking it would be a nice backdoor covering from rain/sun; we didn’t even bother opening it, as its just a small little magnetic plastic piece.-Gas, we filled up our tank the morning of return then drove 30mins out of our way to return the van at the Milpitas lot. We had unloaded all our belongings and were ready to leave when the worker literally made us put all our belongings back in the van and go fill up the tank to “full” because our tank wasn’t “all the way to the full line” when we tried to return it. The worker said there was a gas station down the road, which we then went to, but it only accepted cards from major fleets? Would not accept either of our Canadian credit cards so then we had to waste more time and gas driving around further just to fill the gas to the brim, meanwhile nowhere on the escapecampervan return papers does it say the van has to be completely full..?-All in all, we made do with what we had for our 10day trip up the California coast. If we ever decide to do the campervan route again for a trip, hopefully we will get a newer, more updated & functional van or maybe go with a different company.

Comment: I wish it gave the option of 0 stars, I would definitely give them a 0! We scheduled for Wed-Sun. But our flight didn’t land until 4 pm, only 2 minutes from LAX. Absolutely NO accommodations to help us. They said you’ll just have to pick it up the next day. So we lost a whole day that we paid for! Then if that wasn’t enough our flight home was at 8:55, they said oh we don’t open until 8:30 so the only thing you could do is drop it off before 4 pm the day before our flight the next day. Which cost us an additional hotel night of more than 200.00. So out of the 4 nights we paid for we only got to use the van 2 nights!!!! The worst customer service imaginable! I will NEVER use this company again! And will tell everyone we know DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Comment: The customer care was nice, all the staff was very helpful. On the other hand the car was not in the best condition, did not react propwrly to steering wheel, wipers did not work much so we had to clean the front window at every gas station. Dortunatelly it didnt rain. Nevertheless during our two weeks the car was without any accident, so if you have strong nerves and catch off-season price I can reccomend renting it.

Comment: I would highly recommend Escape Campervans! We were a party of 2 taking a 10 day trip through California, Nevada, utah and Arizona. The van was comfortable with an easy dining to bedroom conversion, had so much space and was perfect for our needs! Chris at the LA office was wonderful; super friendly and professional and made sure we had everything we needed before we hit the road. Can’t fault anything with the van itself - great on fuel consumption, it drove like a dream and is clearly well maintained by the team and in-house mechanics in LA; making one less thing to worry about on the road! As an added bonus, all the vans have beautiful colourful paintwork and definitely make for great Instagram posts 🤣 We had the most amazing trip and can’t thank Escape Campervans enough!

Comment: Highly recommend Escape Campervans. Myself and my friend picked up a van from LA and drove 2200miles over 10 days. The team of staff were amazing upon arrival, despite miscommunication from our travel agent. Chris who helped us was super friendly and efficient, and the mix up didn’t end up affecting our trip at all, Thanks to the effort of Chris. The van itself, extremely well set up, perfect for camping! The kitchen area, bed and also the storage, plenty of room for all your needs! The van was also very mechanically sound and nice to drive, which made driving over in the US (from Aus) less nerve wracking! The van is also very good on fuel! Can tell the mechanics look after them very well, the van didn’t skip a beat.Between the staff and the van itself, I can’t fault Escape Campervans. 😊

Comment: We had a good experience with Escape Campervans. We exceeded our included miles, but were given 100 extra miles for free, which was very nice! We‘d recommend taking the most expensive insurence as the windscreen is likely to get damaged by stones while driving on the highway. We had two cracks in the windscreen (which doesn‘t seem to happen in Europe that often) and were relieved to have this covered by the insurence. Our van had basic equipment, but had everything we needed on our trip. We brought a pocket shower from home, which we recommend, as a lot of campgrounds in dry areas don‘t have showers.

Comment: Comfy van to drive and sleep in. Note the van paintings draws ALOT of attention. Dont expect a working fridge ours didnt even last the first night. Escape campers fix was to credit us $50 for us to buy a cooler and ice every 2nd day for 3 weeks needless to say the $50 didnt even cover the cooler. Spoke with manager Shelby the best she could compensate us with was to knock $150 off for our spoiled food then extra miles still left us with a $200+ bill which was the end of negotiating even though alot of those miles were to get ice every second day.

Comment: We had a great experience with Escape. Our van was a Maverick model called, “The Dollhouse.” We christened her “Dolly” and drove her all the to Vancouver Island and back without a hitch. We had the van for 6 weeks and drove it over 5500 miles. We picked her up from the Inglewood branch and our main contact was Chris. He was extremely helpful, friendly and and relaxed. The only maintenance the van required over 6 weeks and thousands of miles was an oil change in Vancouver - which Escape reimbursed us for. The mechanic doing the oil change gave the van a quick diagnostic in case there were any unseen problems and told us that he’d never seen a vehicle with so many miles on it in such good condition.I think choosing one of the bigger branches for your pick-up is a good idea. You definitely want to use one that has mechanics on site and not every depot does.Overall, our experience with Escape was pretty close to perfect.

Comment: Great van for Burning Man. Yes, its older, but it has a kitchen and a bed, which is really all you need for this event. It gets decent gas mileage on regular gas. There was a serious weather event that prevented me from leaving Burning Man when I planned, and they did not charge me for the extra day.

Comment: Unfortunately, our experience with the Big Sur van from Escape Campervan was far from satisfactory. We rented the vehicle for 38 days this summer at a cost of approximately $5,500, along with an extra $400 for mileage overages. We also opted for full coverage of $1000. We found the overall cost to be very excessive, especially considering the issues we encountered during our trip. Our troubles began on the first evening when our stove caught fire and melted. Dealing with a leaking gas-propelled stove with the potential for an explosion was a very frightening and unpleasant experience even though we are not easily afraid. We then had to spend an entire day without a stove and dedicated two hours to drive and purchase a replacement. The sink in the van had been leaking since the beginning of our journey and eventually broke down in Yellowstone. We were told to get it fixed in San Francisco, even though our travel plans did not take us there for the next five days. This resulted in five days without a functioning sink.In Yosemite, the vans battery died, forcing us to seek assistance from a police officer. After the vehicle was restarted, the roadside assistance representative instructed us not to turn off the van and drive 101 miles and 2.5 hours out of the park to have the battery replaced. This ordeal consumed an entire day and added 202 miles to our journey as we were initially going to the opposite direction.Additionally, the windshield wipers were broken and emitted a loud, grinding noise, making our long drive in the rain extremely uncomfortable. Our disappointment extended to other aspects of the rental as well. We were provided with only one cutlery of each per person, one sponge for a 38-day rental, one plate per person, and one blanket for two people. We were even asked for extra money for an additional blanket just after paying $5,500 for the van. The washbasin had a manual pump, and we encountered inconsistencies among the roadside assistance personnel. Furthermore, there was no tube provided to facilitate water disposal at dumping stations, and there were no facilities for phone charging or phone holder while driving, which we suspected might also incur additional charges...In comparison to other options, the price of this rental seemed exorbitant. Renting a VW or Mercedes campervan, which are purpose-built and fully equipped, would have likely been more cost-effective. The Big Sur van and similar options from Escape Campervan, which are transformed transport vehicles, did not meet our expectations, especially considering the premium price. As a reference, Escape Campervans sells the Big Sur for $85,000, which is 20% more expensive than a brand-new, fully factory-equipped VW California 6.1 campervan. To summarize, we lost two days addressing issues with the campervan, drove over 300 miles (resulting in a $100 gas expense + $100 for the mileage) to fix these problems, and were deeply disappointed by the overall quality of the vehicle. Our refund of only 300 miles (equivalent to $100) does not adequately compensate for the time, effort, and stress we endured, including five days without a sink and an entire day lost in Yosemite due to the battery issue. We believe this situation reflects poor management and customer service. In our opinion, you can likely find better alternatives for a similar price or even at a lower cost.

Comment: My friend and I had the best time ever in our Escape Van! Booking their Van online from home was super simple and trustful. While arriving at their rental place, we were welcomed by the nicest staff ever and got our van straight away after checking in.We were traveling around California for two weeks and had nothing but a good time in our cool-looking van that brought a true american feeling to us.Camping in their van was comfortable and the van itself was super reliable, knowing that we drove 2000 miles with not a single techn issue. Having their company located in Los Angeles, San Francisco and a couple more places around California gave us an additional feeling of safety.Since we had previous financial surprises with other company, I was happy to have found Escape Campervans as a genuine and transparent company that doesnt surprise you with unforeseen costs.Highly recommend🤟🏼PS: dont forget to check their leftover-lockers if you need equipment or have leftovers yourself.

Comment: The Big Sur campervan is a young Ford Transit. `The drive is great. The setup with the kitchen in the back and cooking outdoors is great, as long as its dry outside. The kitchen would be better if the open cupboards were drawers. Now stuff can fall out when you open the backdoors. And it lacks a cutting/preparing space/table.The extra row of seats is very inflexible. It takes up very much space, and if you are with only two (it is a two sleeper...) it is of no use whatsoever. But it cannot be removed. It would be so much better if that row was taken out, the bed was moved forward against the front seats, so there would be space between the kitchen and the bed to change and to cook if it rains ouside. There would even be space to add a portapotti (Toilet).Furthermore, the bed is kingsize, but it sleeps very uncomfortable and bad because of the thin mattress, and the uneven bed with hard ridges.

Comment: If Trader Joe’s ran an RV rental, this would be it. Friendly, accommodating, responsive. The van, despite being an older model, was solid and well maintained (they even replaced the stock sound system with a high-end radio that had Bluetooth, USB, and Spotify support.)My only concern in writing this review is that I kinda don’t want to share the secret of how great they are in case it gets harder to rent one.

Comment: Top:Definitely a great van with storage and ok equipped kitchen with all you need. Milage rates are ok as well.Down:Van was handled over at 7/8 of the tank instead of full. Manager refused to fill it up or give a discount. She was like fill it up only to 7/8. But if booked full to full it’s easier to fill up. Definitely a minus here. The second minus is the customer service. The roof tent did not close properly on one side, cause the closing hook is bent and doesn’t hold the latch. We struggled 20 min daily to secure that tent. The managers answer was only: “no that tent is new and functions properly. I don’t believe you. We checked it beforehand” as I said no it’s definitely broken, just look at the hooks. she was like: “no this is a new roof tent. That is all right”I am really disappointed by the poor customer care. Which is really sad, as the van was good and a great camper. But for me that’s a definite no go. I would rather go with the other camper van rentals next time and would recommend that to everyone else. Check out AV rental or others

Bedding kit and kitchen kit fit all our needs.Little bit of an older model so struggled up hills. And no Aux/Bluetooth for the sound system.Overall did the job, was a good trip.

Comment: Excellent campervan rental. It was important for us to be able to rent one-way, L.A. to Seattle; Escape was the only rental agency that I found that does that. Our van was quite old (11 years) with, as I recall, 364k miles, but it was in very good condition - just a few of the interior trim pieces were missing. I did notice that the tire pressure of the two front tires was quite far off; handling improved markedly when I corrected this.

Comment: Using the van was great, but it had 332k miles... I was a little worried about that. It all worked well, but definitely had signs of use - front suspension and steering was very loose, no antenna, no Bluetooth, so no music the whole trip - CD player not super helpful. I would expect more for the price. We rented one 2 years ago that was in much better shape for the same price. All in all a little disappointing this time.

Comment: I’d give this place a 4.5 star review! The van was amazing besides minor damage to the interior like vents missing or stuff like that but besides that it was perfect! It was super clean and didn’t have any issues driving even though we drove a lot of miles over a couple of weeks! Definitely will go back if I ever road trip again! Also their staff is super helpful and always answers the phone if you call!

Comment: We rented a Mavericks Campervan for 2.5 weeks from LA. Pick-up was super fast, smooth, and easy. The rental location is pretty close to LAX and about 10 min Uber/Lyft drive. Even though we were ahead of the booked pick-up time we were able to get our van earlier and the staff was so nice and friendly. The drop-off was also super easy and fast. The van and all the booked equipment (kitchen kit, bedding etc.) were super clean. After a couple of days driving the engine light went on. We called the Escape Campervans Road Assistance. They responded immediately and were very supportive throughout the whole time. We eventually got a new vehicle in Las Vegas. The van exchange was super easy, fast, and smooth so we did not lose any time on our trip.We had such a great and memorable time and a fun adventure with our campervan! The only thing I would wish is that they would include more miles since 100mi per day is not much. But overall, I would definitely recommend renting a vehicle from Escape Campervans and we will definitely do it for our next Road Trip-Camping-Adventure! 5 Stars!

Comment: We had a wonderful time in our Maverick van, Fantasyland! We had so many compliments on the purple and blue mushroom design! The layout was also so convenient and we loved having the kitchen set up. Having a fridge and being able to cook all our food helped us save money and not have to wait to find food. Also, the bed was surprisingly comfy and we slept through the night every night. Customer service was also very friendly and responsive. :) We can’t wait to go on our next road trip in a Maverick van!

Comment: The overall experience is good. The van has a very great looking and the crews are very helpful. However, since it’s a pretty old car(2012) lots of things not working well in the vehicle such as AC stop cooling at low speed; speakers cannot connect via bluetooth or usb; internal lights can’t be turned off; plastic parts making noise, etc. I can’t complain too much about an old vehicle that got 300k mileage on it, but considering the pricey rental fee and everything, they could do better

Comment: Ended up being almost 400 USD a day for a van that had done almost 400k miles, old, slow, barely could drive speed limit. On top of that it was leaking coolant, ringing the roadside phone numbers was useless as no one picked up so had to ring bookings for help. After getting in touch with someone they were helpful and friendly, however the end result was us spending our holiday time getting a very old and abused van looked at by a mechanic. The mechanic said fixing it was out of their scope but that we should be OK just to keep topping up fluids on our way.Dropping off there wasnt any sorry for inconvenience or anything just checked miles asked for more money then transaction done.UPDATE: Escape have given us compensation for the issues.

Comment: The camper van worked well for my trip but the high price tag should render a newer and up to date van. The amenities in the van are circa 2008. The van also wasn’t very clean. It had an odor of smoke. They also advertise that the van I rented could sleep 5 however, due to a lack of storage space there is no way this would be a comfortable situation. The tires were bald and the van drove heavily. It’s also a gas guzzler. I also don’t like all of the hidden fees and the free 100 miles per day then $.30 per mile is ridiculous. I would recommend this for a young group of friends who desire to take a short trip locally. If you’re going a long distance forego the van, drive a car, and rent hotels. You’ll save a lot of money that way.

Comment: The fist one I turned it on, it sounded like a belt was going snap soon and the radio didn’t work so had to turn around and switch it out. The Kids seems like I was bugging them and had no idea about vehicles. The 2nd one was worse because it had no air conditioner so I had to go out of way to switch it out again. The 3rd one engine light went on and they wanted me to drive 200 miles out of way to get it checked, I didn’t go. They then wanted to charge me for the mileage I used to get switch out van. I refused and they didn’t charge me. That was about the only good thing. The windows in back don’t open so if you close it up, your stuck in a sauna. Drive it around block a few times And Check everything before to take vehicle and get the full insurance. Good luck

Comment: Fun but too expensive. I rented the van for 4 days with a max of 400 miles, I will get charged 45 cents or compensated if I return less than 400. I honestly think van should be at least unlimited if rented out for more than 3 days. We had the mavericks which had a sleeper on top of the van. Setup was a little tricky at first but we became pros after the first night. The van came with the fridge and sink, super convenient as we did the dispersed camping along the coast of PCH. Cons: I don’t like they gave us a wobbly table inside. We couldn’t use it at all. Even the cup holder inside was broken we couldn’t eat inside comfortably at all. The associate should have made sure all the items the van came with are functional before renting it out or at least told renters like me they aren’t functional. Also, it costs $150 to fill up gas tank. Hope this review helps.

Comment: The reservation process was super smooth and the staff answered all of my emails ridiculously fast! We booked a van for a 4-day trip to Coachella, so we didnt have to worry about driving a lot of miles. The van we rented was practically brand new and very comfortable to camp in - absolutely no complaints. The van and all the materials were clean, everything worked properly and it was super comfortable even in the desert heat. The rooftop sleeper is such a vibe but keep in mind that if you’re over 6ft tall you might have to stick your feet out the sleeper lol The staff was very friendly and we were in and out to get the van and to return it. Comment: I had an incredible trip going from LA to San Francisco with my two 4 year olds which is why I’m giving it 3 stars. We rented the maverick which was plenty big for the three of us. The van itself was pretty cool but for 1600 dollars for the week plus miles, I would spend a little bit more for a small camper next time. The van had 350k miles on it, I was told they’re out of propane even though that’s supposed to be included, the tire pressure light was intermittently on (not really a big deal but was annoying the first night of driving to verify the tire pressures were good), and the steering wheel had 3-4 inches of play which made for pretty bad driving fighting the roads. The propane also isn’t that big of a deal but they nickel and dime you for everything else. For the kind of money they charge, they could include a cigarette lighter adapter to charge usb instead of giving you a menu of items of simple necessities that you have to pay extra for. I would not rent again but that being said it did serve its purpose and we did have a great trip.

Comment: We had the 24/7 roadside assistance in our package. We got the low air tire light an hour into our drive on our trip. And we went to a Costco Fullerton to add air only to find out that the tire was flat.Called for service at 920 pm for flat and only got the voice service. Left a message and received a text response at 1026 PM. Danielle responded when we called back. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to get any service in Fullerton until the following morning. Additionally, we couldn’t settle into Costco since the security asked us to leave so luckily we were able to park at Walmart just down the street. This will be important to assessing the tired. Side note, Danielle was an awesome assistant. Caring, compassionate and helpful in her following up.We were able to get our tires changed at around at 730 in the morning. Unfortunately, AAA wouldn’t take the business card over the phone with the company road side assistance so we had to front the payment. We were told we would be reimbursed. Once the tire was changed, we noticed it wasn’t a full size tire but an old spare with rusted rims. We knew we couldn’t get to Phoenix on it so we took it back. We asked the AAA mechanic what he thought the issue was and he says it could be just defective since the tire looks new. When we got to the office, we mentioned the situation and Shelby was the least empathetic or helpful person. Given that we didn’t even leave town an hour away, and we know we didn’t hit anything to cause any issue with the tire, we asked if we could work an extra day for our troubles of losing a day. Shelby was super combative at that point and said it doesn’t. After making the case again, she said she’ll ask home office. She came back and said, if there’s no nails, or other issues, then we can get the additional day, otherwise, it would be an additional change. Seems fair since we knew we didn’t hit anything. So when they assessed the tire, she then made the claim that we hit something. I attached the picture of the tire. The claim was we hit something on the left Firestone logo on the left side of the picture. There’s no scuff marks there. We do show ware with a rim but, that’s because we went to a location to fill the tire (to Costco) which we though was just low air (not flat), and we had to move to Walmart. Our next car that we got was great and worked well. It got a two stars because our lady that serviced us was not remotely empathetic but the van worked well. If you get nocturnal van (our first van) I would also check the Bluetooth since it never worked for us. Also note, the insurance coverage is a waste of money. We needed the tire changed and we also had to pay for the AAA out of pocket.

Comment: It was our second van rental from Escape Campervan. The van was fine. The people working in LA were friendly. The 3 stars are for their incredible inflexibility in relation to turning the van in early and picking up early. Our plans changed last minute and they were very much “stick to the contract” people. We picked the van up 2 hours early and we’re charged for a full day rental. We had to turn the van in early due to them not having after hours drop off and they were not flexible at all. It also doesn’t come with the sheet sets you need for 2 places to sleep in the van so we were charged for that too. So, due to them not wanting to work with us as customers, we won’t be renting with Escape Campervan anymore.

Comment: Horrible customer service, going to rent the van for two months so granted we had a lot of questions. A very not nice lady by the name of Kristy at the reservation center who was very unhelpful and just plain rude. She had no patience for our questions nor was pleasant about anything we asked. Unfriendly and not kind person. If it wasn’t for the guy (which I forgot his name) at the rental location, we would have just gone with a different company. He was pleasant and sweet and answered all our questions and thanks to him we are going though this reservation. I will write a separate review on the car post the trip and hope it will live up to its potential. But overall I am extremely disappointed

Comment: Overall, the campervan experience was pretty good. the reservation process was easy. The campervan wouldnt start on the 2nd day of the trip. The staff replaced the campervan for me, however, I received no discount for my troubles. The folding queen bed is not comfy on its on. Had to add another mattress on top of it which the company didnt supply. Not bad, but could use some improvement.

Comment: We were really pleased with our experience with our van and the staff at this location. They allowed us to pick up earlier than our reservation time as we were in the area. The van itself was awesome - ours was quite old but still worked fine for our trip. It was a great experience to travel in a van, but I do think they should include more miles in the package as the additional miles add up quickly. Overall, we had a great experience but it is quite expensive if you factor in the nightly cost, miles, and super expensive gas prices on the West Coast. Regardless, I would recommend using this company if you are looking for a weekish long van trip.

Comment: This is our second time renting from Escape CamperVans and both times we have had an excellent experience. The vans are equipped with all you could need. If you aren’t local - highly recommend renting a kitchen kit and bedding kit as it is very reasonably priced for what you’ll get for your trip. We have rented a Big Sur model both time and it’s worth the extra money for some extra room and a back up camera. We will certainly use them again!

Comment: Escape Campervans was great! It was exactly what you would expect and there were no surprises or hidden fees. The inside of the vans are well loved but everything seemed clean and everything we needed was there. We are a family of 4 and the kids loved sleeping in the rooftop sleeper. It was perfect and comfortable for them. The sleeper on the inside for the adults wasn’t as comfortable. The cushions don’t line up quite right, making it somewhat uncomfortable but completely doable if you’re not a princess and the pea like me.We loved #vanlife and felt this was a perfect way to give it a try.

Comment: Jamie is the best!! Super chill and professional check out and check in. Silly me left AirPods in the the van and they called next day to let me know they found them and come to find out, my kid had left theirs behind as well. Great integrity and in line with every escape trip we taken. I will come back often to this company and its people. Now I’m free to go about my day 😄! Also found out they have Jeeps! So many options, always clean, always functional, always comfy, always fun. Lots of family memories tied to an escape camper van. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Comment: Loved our adventure with escape campervans. We drove almost 3000 miles over the West Coast in a Maverick. Cars equipment had minor issues like leaking faucet or a stove that kept pulling out on its own while driving but it was all nothing compared to the overall experience. We had no mechanical or other issues with the car despite its considerable mileage. The bed was very comfortable, fridge kept our food and drinks super cold even in hot temperatures outside and we had it turned to only half the full power. Only problem I had was to find the right position behind the steering wheel, never felt really good, but thats rather my personal thing. We loved the service in LA office, everything was done very quickly and kindly. Recommend strongly.

Comment: A great campervan rental company! Booking was very straight forward and I was quickly assisted with any questions or issues that I had prior to picking up the van. Check in/pick was simple and efficient. Unfortunately we forgot to check for our add-ons and drove away without them (so just check before you go!) but the company was understanding and gave us a refund. I would highly recommend this company and would likely use them again!

Comment: It was *almost perfect*, and honestly, I really appreciate Escape putting in the time and effort to have excellent customer service, great communication, and a useful product. We changed our reservation, and they pretty much immediately took care of it. The van worked perfectly for our needs (weekend festival camping). The only things that didnt work out were the extras -- we rented a canopy to go over the van doors instead of a standalone. This was basically useless, especially with the small doors of the Mavericks, and there was no way we couldve used it to provide shade without reparking the van regularly.Secondly, while offering a shower bag is a great idea, the hose is really bad quality, and kinks easily, reducing flow, and rendering it useless. Ill see if we can get a replacement hose for it, because Ive been meaning to get a camping shower. But once again, everything else was great! Id give them a 95/100 :)

Comment: We rented the van for 4 weeks, picked up in LA, dropped off in Denver - pick up and check in were easy. We camped in major cities and in national parks with no problem. Bed was more comfortable than we thought. Van was super reliable and in great shape. There is no roof vent - it can get a little hot at night in summer - we had a re-chargeable fan we hung from the ceiling and that worked great.

Comment: We used our Escape Camper van to drive the Pacific Coast Highway to Napa. Renting, pickup, and drop off went like a breeze. The paint jobs are so unique, and you experience a sense on oneness with the other Escape Vans on the road. Van drive like charm, was very clean. 4/5 traveled very comfortably. I so want to do this again.

Comment: We loved our experience with Escape Campervans! Booking was easy and stress-free. They helped me book the appropriate van for our needs and were great at responding quickly to our questions. The office staff near LAX got us into the van efficiently. Many thanks to all for making it a fun adventure. It was great to see nature so close to LA. Highly recommend Joshua Tree National Park for a very different, and very California experience!

Comment: We rented a Santa Cruz model for 2 people for 4 weeks across the west coast - pickup in San Francisco and drop off in LA. This was possibly the best 4 weeks of my life! Each campervan is hand painted with a unique design and given a name accordingly (ours was called Confetti). This is the smallest model that Escape rent out but it was plenty big enough for 2! Kitchen is equipped with a pump sink, one hob and a fridge (which actually worked incredibly well the entire time). We had 2800 miles included in our 4 weeks but we did go over and had to pay for an extra 548 miles at 30cents per mile on drop off. The van did really well with gas and we had zero issues other than having to pump up one tire (which in the space of 4 weeks is to be expected). It was heartbreaking to part with Confetti at the end of the trip and I would 100% do this again with Escape Campervans. They were so easy to communicate with and prices were much higher when we looked at other companies. Highly recommend!!

Comment: Beautiful artwork for the vehicles, does the job and has what you need however pretty expensive when you factor in mileage fees. Unfortunately we ran into a dead car battery when we didnt overuse the vehicle at all and no partial compensation was provided. 5 stars if not for the dead battery.

Comment: We had such a great experience with our Maverick Campervan “Kona” on our trip from Los Angeles to Bass Lake. We were able to pack gear for the four of us including a large tent, netted shade tent, extra fold-out table, 4 chairs, 2 duffel bags, a suitcase, 3 large food and gear totes, 2 coolers, and other small bags of necessities. The kitchen on the back with water was really convenient and the bed in the van was super comfortable. I was worried about the high mileage but the van didn’t have any problems driving over the grapevine and into the mountains. Definitely recommend and we can’t wait for our next trip!

Comment: Escape provide a brilliant camper for a brilliant experience. We rented the Del Mar Pop Top model for 18 nights and were not disappointed.Sleeping:We never had issues wether we were boondocking or campsite. We had 4 adults in the van with no problems with space. 2 up top and 2 down bottom. I would love if the company could provide sleeping bags in preference over bed sheets and blankets.Driving:The van was really quite a nice van to drive over our 3200 mile trip. We got on average over the whole trip 17.5 mpg but we had it at 18.3 mpg while highway driving in Arizona and Utah before returning to city driving which really dragged the efficiency down. The model was a brand new model and included Android Auto and apple CarPlay. We only used the Android Auto as we dont believe in Apple but we couldnt have done without it, the sound system and directions ease of use was very worth it.Van Equipment:As mentioned we had the Del Mar Pop Top model. This is the largest model offered. It comes with a massive battery, solar panels on the roof to charge the battery, a solar light, small fridge, plenty of storage, indoor table and seating, 20/30 amp camp power connection and optional extras like deck chairs and table and a solar shower. We never had any issue keeping food/drinks cold as it cooled down when we drove and cooled down when connected to camp power. The camper also came with great air conditioning used during driving, we did not use it when parked and sleeping. The 1 star removed was due to the aforementioned sleeping bag and for the price of the rental, it is still an excellent option and when breaking the pricing down between multiple people it becomes viable, otherwise I would consider getting a smaller option.

Comment: I am updating my review to five stars because, while it took contacting the company president to resolve, they did resolve my issue regarding the undocumented gas levels and associated charge and I appreciated the responsiveness, despite the mix up at the location. The van was quite comfortable for sleeping and hanging out. It stays suprisingly cool in the sun (not really sure how, but its great). I do wish they would add curtains or provide a blocker for the windshield because even though curtains go around the entire back, the front windows and windshield let in a lot of heat. SO again, stayed pretty cool but small addition could make it that much better. The fridge is fantastic and if you are going to be parked long it works quite well as an ice box. The battery that charges it seemed to last forever. We didnt have to move the vehicle to charge the back battery for at least three days (didnt have a need to try any longer). But again, works great as a cooler if you worried about parking for 3+ days without moving the vehicle. You can also jump the main battery from the back battery in you were in a pinch, which is nice. Some of the vans are older and we had a brief moment of check engine light, but absolutely no mechanical issues or any problems with the vehicle itself.Again, the fold down bed is *quite comfortable* -- shockingly cozy for van bed and I have a a very expensive sleep number at home so I am picky!Fair warning though, make sure they mark BOTH places where the gas level is recorded. They charge $10 a gallon if you return the van with less than it had when you checked it out.Highly recommend!

Comment: We rented the Maverick and traveled from LA to Salt Lake City Utah! The van did incredible for the full 1700+ mile trip. The van had everything we could have needed with the extra kitchen kit and linen kit.In the future, I’d maybe rent the next van size up. Those models tend to be a little newer and I think you don’t have to undo and remake the bed to have some extra seating. There was a slight issue with the water tank but Escape took care of it and provided me with a rebate. Can’t recommend enough!

Comment: Read this if you thinking to rent the Maverick.Honestly, I’m not really satisfied. I have my own van in Italy that I use regularly for my holidays so, I’m used to do trips by van. For my USA trip I rented a Maverick for 3 weeks. The assistance for the booking is really nice and fast but the van is not really good if you want use in a long trip. For me the problems are:Bed system: Every day you need to pulls out-in the pillows and dissemble the table for sleeping (watch the video!). After the dinner or for breakfast is really frustrating to do that every time. I decided to leave the bed open and to don’t use the table for the whole of vacation.Table. In my opinion totally un-useful. For me is better if you use the pillow wood container behind the seats like a table. In these way you dont need every time to mount the table for eating something or just for chilling and you could leave the bed open and use the pillows like a backrest. That is I done.Miles. The base miles that you have every day are few. If you plan to do a long trip you cant buy extra miles before, I dont understand why.Base kit. If you live for days in a van there are some things that you really need. In my opinion, in the base kit is really useful to have a broom and a basket or space for the waste.Lights. There is only one light powered by solar panel, is in the back over the sink. Inside you need a extra lamp or a headlamp if you dont want to risk draining the vans battery.I dont really appreciated that is mandatory to buy a usb converter for recharge devices. They could set it into the vehicle in the 2022!Last but not the least, when I started my trip after few miles the van had a problem. I had to come back to change the vehicle. In summary, if you plan to rent the Maverick for few days or a weekend it’s probably a good choice but for a long trip, for me, is not a good choice.

Comment: *UPDATE TO MY REVIEW: I JUST GOT SLAPPED WITH A 660+ TOTAL HOSPITAL BILL.I am also not lying about the leak. It ruined two of my bags. I do not know what to say when they said they cannot find the leak because I specifically told them where it was. The 400 dollar refund doesnt even cover the whole costs. Do not recommend.I really loved the idea of Escape Campervans and I was super excited to go pick up my van! When I first got the vehicle, I noticed that it was kind of old/kind of dirty. After the first night of sleeping on the vehicle, my face started to have this horrible pain/itch near my eyes. Day 3 was even worse when I had to go to the ER to treat the contact allergy that had spread to my face and caused my face to swell so bad, I could not open my eyes. They did switch out the van for me, but it did not account for the amount of time I wasted going to the ER/booking a hotel. They did give me a 400 dollar refund, but I feel like I just wanted a clean van for a great trip. It was pretty fun after I switched vans, but I just wished the first part didnt happen.Oh, I forgot to mention that my first van also had a leaking sink! D:Anyways, if you get a van from them, just make sure its clean!

Comment: I really like the Escape Camper Van. Picking it up in one location and dropping in another is great. The Vans are basic but very adequate. I really like the outdoor kitchen. Some of the equipment did not work well. The interior lights, the utility plugs for charging, one of the wind screens for the stove were missing. THese were all minor, but should be attended to.Overall, we love the vans, the business model and the affordability. The major draw back isthe limited hours which caused us to rent an extra day on either side. Perhaps there can be an after hours additional fee for later pick ups and drop offs to cover costs.

Comment: We rented a Mavericks van for a father, son, grandson overnight camping trip at the beach. It was great and the van easily fit the three of us and our stuff. The issue I have is that this trip was originally scheduled for a year ago, but was upended by the pandemic. Unfortunately, we were unable to get our money back and the company held onto it as a credit for a future trip. Doing this sort of made this into a chore, as it required us to arrange transportation to pick up the van, drive down to pick it up in rush hour traffic by the airport and then drive it back. The arrangement, not necessarily the companys fault, did add extra stress to the trip. I hope in the future, the company offers more variety of choices to arrange a trip, including easier options to pick up the van (no parking allowed on site). If youre looking to try out the #VanLife, this is a great way to do it. Just make sure you understand the pick up and drop off process as it might be easier to find a local person renting out camper vans.

Comment: Had a great time renting one of the Mavericks for four days and going out to Death Valley for Thanksgiving. The camper van made traveling around and staying in different spots very easy. Especially having a sink, refrigerator, and the kitchen accessories. I also really enjoyed the ease of being able to add or takeoff any last minute items that they offer as add ons with the van. All in all it was well worth the cost and experience! Mileage isn’t too expensive if you go over but do factor that in if your trip will exceed the daily mileage limits. I would definitely rent a camper van again! My 70lb dog traveled well in the camper as well! He even fit snug with me and my partner at night when we slept. All in all it was an fantastic time! Thank you!

Comment: Loved out trip! Having this camper-van made our trip so much easier than old school camping with a tent, specially during the late fall. We rented he Maverick and it was great for space, handling & amenities. It was a bit loved, but I believe its their oldest model, so we werent too shocked there. If you have a mattress topper you can put on the bed that will help a lot! We had one and slept like a dream! Also have a little funnel helps with filling up the water tank... A LOT!

Comment: My experience with Escape Campervans was really nice. Placing my reservation and my pick-up process went smoothly. I was surprised at how easy everything was! What attracted me to Escape Campervans were the colorful paintings and designs on the vans. I was initially assigned a van named Bayou. Although very artistic and interesting, it didnt really appeal to me so the representative allowed me to choose another one name Squiggles. The van itself was very colorful but had a few dings and, as the rep stated, Squiggles has had a rough life. The van ran reasonably well, all things considered. I luckily reserved during the time where the kitchen kit, electrical kit, and chairs were being offered for free-WHAT A DEAL! Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I will re-visit for sure. My only suggestion: having 1-2 vans for customers to choose from would be a great option and would add to the awesomeness of Escape Campervans!

Comment: We rented the Lucky Lady for a week in Southern CA. This van was the ugliest and maybe the oldest on the lot. 12 years old and 300k miles. Suspension was shot and steering was not far from that. There were several times i didnt think we would make it back alive in CA traffic and mountains. On the plus side, the staff at Escape was always courteous, responsive and helpful. The vans are well equipped and the bed was very comfortable. Escape has great specials and half the price of a car rental for tent camping.

We went on a road trip with my boyfriend and rented the Santa Cruz van, it is very beautiful and comfortable as well as very well equipped. Everything you need is there; confortable bed, fridge, sink, just everything. We are from Argentina and had to approve the payment when we picked it up, the employee waited for us 45 minutes till our bank send the authorization! And he made us fill that even it was happy to hang out with us. We made 3800 miles in 28 days and we didn’t have a single problem. Comment: First of all, I would like to thank you for safely finishing my journey of 5550 miles in 30 days. In fact, as a foreigner, I was worried because it was my first time traveling by car for as long as a month. However, the United States had a good driving culture that gave way and waited for each other in automobile culture, and I chose it without any hesitation because there was a reliable company like Escape Camper Van, and I was right. I deeply appreciate the service spirit you have shown me, but I give you some advice as a customer. Customers who travel long distances trust the company and rent a car. The belief is that the company faithfully adheres to the basic safety inspection requirements. In our case, the vehicle was repaired on the way because the wheel alignment and body balance did not match. It was a little more anxious than the time we wasted. Id like to ask you to inspect the safety of the vehicle in advance. I pray for the development of the company.

Comment: Escape Campervans was wonderful from start to finish. Any time I needed help or made changes to my reservation, the customer service team was totally excellent. They were warm, prompt, and accommodating. The van itself was totally user friendly for someone traveling alone who had never done this before. I had such a fantastic trip in it and found myself thinking crazy thoughts by the end like, “why don’t I live in a campervan?” The size was just big enough to give me enough room and wasn’t so big that it was cumbersome to drive around. The maximum speed of 65mph (or it starts shaking, the vans are a bit old, but clearly well maintained), made the trip a bit slower, but I set it on cruise control and watched people pass me, silently judging them for being in such a rush. The propane stove was easy to use and the fridge had more than enough space for two weeks. Highly recommend getting the window screens for sleeping and the chairs. Never once used the gps, so should have skipped that. I will definitely get an Escape Campervan again and highly recommend them to everyone I meet.

She made me feel like we were old friends and went way above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied :) the check in and out process was super seamless thanks to her.I’m not sure if I would rent again, only because I found the mileage caps so stressful. Comment: The idea of Escape Campervans is great but sadly they lack in their execution. We hired a van for a month to drive from NYC to SF. The van was a 2012 model and had done around 270k miles when we got it. We expected that the van would have a few bumps and bruises, but we had a number of issues right from pickup in NYC and throughout our trip, many of which could have been prevented if they had done the proper servicing and checks before sending the van out on the road. We ended up having to bring the van in for issues 3 times on our trip. I contacted customer service and roadside assistance numerous times (Danielle was great!) and they offered us a number of refunds for the hassle which we appreciated. But then on drop off in SF none of the refunds had been added and I had to go through line by line with the staff there, and am still missing some refunds today. While originally I thought we had just been unlucky, it seemed that most other people we chatted to at the LV and SF Escape depots also had various issues with their vans. The whole experience and the lack of communication between the different teams has put me off using Escape again.

Comment: Absolutely loved working with Escape Campervans and was a highlight to my trip! Although we didnt get to stay in the campervan for most of our nights (because 100+ weather in arches national park even at 11pm) we still loved the van and used it everyday to cook our meals and to travel between the parks we visited. Definitely pay attention to the weather and time of year you plan on traveling, but the van was clean, comfortable, and the kitchen set up is very convenient! The small fridge was a game changer to storing food so we only had to shop on day 1 for our 10 day trip! Would definitely use again!

Comment: Had a great trip with our Maverick van. Easy to drive, good mileage and a comfortable bed. The kitchen area was great! Our only issue was the previous renters smoked in it. The staff at pickup and return were very pleasant and competent.

Comment: I would definitely use again and recommend to others. Jaime helped check us out and back in when we returned; was thorough, helpful and friendly. The van itself was easy to drive and made our long trip so much more comfortable. The only downside is there is no rear camera and as someone that’s not used to driving a huge van, it’s a real challenge to back up. We got lots of compliments on the unique paint job and it made it easy to find among other campers.

Comment: It was a good experience, I may try it again, but Id try another brand next time.Pro: It was surprisingly easy to drive, the mirrors and window are large providing a good view. The driver and passenger seats were comfortable enough. Plenty of leg room for my short legs. Tip, use a small ice chest in between the seats for snacks, and elevation for things you want in arms reach.I was comfortable sleeping(most of the time see cons.), however, my friend had a really hard time sleeping on the lumpy surface and ended the trip with a sore back. The first thing that bothered me was in the pre trip check, we didnt check the oil/fluids. When I realized I went back to ask for help to check it. It was obvious to me that this was not a normal request to make. After seeing that everything looked good I feel comfortable saying that they probably keep up on it, I would think a van meant to drive long distances would be double checked before it left the lot.The radio.... I just dont know what I was doing wrong, I couldnt turn it off, change the station, or even turn it down. I turned the volume knob and it kept changing the illumination settings. When we were trying to check out and mentioned it the employee dropped everything to check it right then. I appreciate the enthusiasm but I really didnt want her to confirm /deny that it was functional at that moment. our trip was over and we wanted to leave. The shocks seemed... like the needed work. I dont know how these vans should feel, but we were bouncing around quite a bit.The vans should come with some way to level them, these are made to sleep out in the world, the world is not flat.More often than not the sink wouldnt pump. It seemed like it works As Expected which for us was... maybe 20% of the time. I wonder how much of the was related to the van being at different levels/angles. I put in so much more water than we got out of it... I really wonder where it was all going! We were not stationary long, we were campsite hopping, so the fridge should have been able to live off a combination of the car battery and the solar panels, however, after the first day out it often felt like its probably cold enough... right?.

Comment: I rented a van from the LA location for 8 weeks. The van (Raven) was great as were all of the staff I dealt with both via phone and email with the booking center and in person at the LA depot. We had a minor mechanical issue and I dealt with the roadside assistance department who were incredibly helpful and had me back underway really quickly without any delay in my journey. The vans are well put together and set up. The bed is comfortable and the kitchen set up is good for cooking meals. I had an incredible holiday and travelling in Raven was part of the fun.

Comment: Check in and return super easy. Crystal in the Phoenix location was excellent in explaining everything about the camper van and about locations to camp; “Super helpful!” We had a comfortable stay in the van and enjoyed the simple yet useful amenities. Definitely a do over and I cannot stop exclaiming to my friends and family of the wonderful experience. All in all we loved it.

Comment: We rented a van for 7 days out of the Inglewood location and it was such an amazing experience. The Escape team was so helpful for every step of the way when our original plan did not work out they helped us make a new itinerary and made sure it was cost effective. Upon picking up the van we were helped by Krissy & she was so nice and encouraging! Same thing when we returned Krissy was there to make sure everything went well! Would recommend to anyone to rent out an escape van & go on an adventure!

Comment: My family of three rented a Big Sur van and had so much fun! We started in Los Angeles and made our way to Portland. Having the van made the trip so memorable as we were able to explore all day, camp almost anywhere and wake up early to start exploring again in the morning. It was definitely one of the best trips we have been on so far, thanks to Escape Campervans! We will be renting from them again soon!

Comment: The van was great! The refrigerator drawer was a very useful feature. The heater helped ward off the chill at night before we went to bed and in the morning while getting dressed. It got decent mileage. We would recommend this mode of travel for those looking for an adventure. Everywhere we went, people commented about the paint job. It was very cool!

Comment: The Inglewood crew is great. Very friendly, upfront and honest. We rented a Maverick, “surf trip,” for 9 days. Most everything was great. We had 4 (2adults + 2kids) and had plenty of space even without the roof top sleeper. The kitchen set up was perfect for us. Fuel economy we averaged about 17 mpg. Without the rooftop tent it fit in most parking garages and the size of the van fits in a normal parking spot. It does have backup sensors. The van itself was tired; at almost 300,000 miles you could feel lots of play in the steering, a lot of the pop out cup holders were broken, the screws that hold the table to the van floor kept popping out, the front console covers latches were broken causing a lot of the engine heat to come into the van which was rough considering it was 95° almost everyday and the vans AC didn’t work. *No, we didn’t call them right when we realized our AC was not working because we were on a pretty strict itinerary and didn’t want to miss anything so we toughed it out.Yes, we will absolutely rent from them again. If you go into this with an open mind, you’ll love it. If you go into it with a luxurious mind, you’ll be let down.

Comment: We had a great experience with our Escape van. The pickup was easy, the staff at the office was super friendly and helpful, the drop off was easy.We ended up having to switch from the Big Sur to the Maverick to extend our trip which I think wasn’t quite as nice. Everything in the van worked which was great but the interior and ride quality I think are better on the Big Sur, worth the upgrade in my opinion. But regardless it worked well for us and the freedom to stop and stay anywhere including free dispersed camping sites was great.Definitely recommend!

Comment: Good to start out camping. The camper vans are pretty bares bones. They have a pump sink in the back and a shelf for a camp stove. There’s a bed in the middle that uses the bench and some platforms. Not anything extensive. Was a nice way to get your camping feet wet but isn’t much more luxurious than a tent with only slightly less set up.

Comment: Great set up. Not flashy. Very straightforward to select what you need from their menu. Easy pickup and so close to LAX and the freeway. Nice people. At first we weren’t sure about the set up in the van but it turned out to be ideal. Loved the fact we could leave the bed made instead of daily repacking. Overall good news if you want a taste of van life

Comment: Rented the smallest of the camper options and it was perfect size for the two of us. The van was really easy to drive and very comfy to sleep in. We got lots of complements on the road for the fun design :)They do charge extra for the little things (bedding, kitchen stuff, additional miles at the end of the trip... more than 100 miles a day) so I would be sure to take this into account while you budget your trip. We didn’t go very far each day but still went over the 100/day in the end but it was worth it :) I definitely recommend

Comment: Great place to rent a campervan and go explore the USA. Their prices are great and their customer service is amazing. They replied to all my e-mails very quickly and were very easy to work with. I highly recommend them.I rented a Maverick to travel in south California and the van was just what I needed. It was small enough to park where all other cars do, making it possible to park on the road or any parking spots I desired. It was also big enough to fit a comfortable bed and have a small kitchen in the back. Perfect for city or country travel.

Comment: I am a big camper and this was my first time camping with a caravan like this. We were headed to the desert for complete isolation (to keep both us and others safe during the pandemic) and it was great for the colder weather. There was plenty of storage and the bed was more comfortable than an air mattress in a tent. The kitchen area was great for preparing meals but washing dishes was a bit difficult. I ended up using my typical setup and didnt use much of the sink. My only reason this isnt a 5 star rating is because the van itself was over 10 years old. When I realized the van had almost 300k miles I was nervous we would break down. It did run out of coolant but the roadside service was quick and we were back on the road within an hour. (The essentially ordered the coolant at a nearby store and I picked it up and put it into the car. Luckily this happened near civilization) They did give me some money off the total price which was a nice gesture. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We would rent from here again.

Comment: Rented a Mavericks camper van from Escape Los Angeles for a road trip to Arizona and back. Our van was “Carhenge”. Overall we were happy with the experience and would rent again but there are some things to know going in.The Mavericks van is a full-size Ford van with a convertible table to queen bed, propane camp stove, sink (fill with your own water), and refrigerated drawer. The bed is comfortable and easy enough to put up and down but we kept it made the whole time as we didn’t need the table. Fridge drawer was really cold and held more than it looked. The van was tough to drive in strong wind on the freeway and snow/ice, be cautious if you’re going to encounter this weather. Otherwise easy enough to drive.Bring your own:-Bedding and pillows, or rent from them-Propane, or buy from them-Lighter for the stove-Car charger for your phone and Aux cord + relevant adapter to play your phone through the stereo-Cooking/eating supplies, or rent from themThere were some quirks/issues, like the passenger blind spot mirror wouldn’t stay in place and one of the power ports in the dash didn’t work. Also the air would quit whenever we accelerated uphill. Gas mileage was not as advertised but luckily Arizona has cheap gas! Not dealbreakers but could have been in better shape.GET THE INSURANCE! Our van got a flat tire. Luckily we were in a populated area and had bought the “no worries on the van” insurance so Escape roadside team arranged for a tow and new tire at no cost to us, but it was a 3 hour time sink. These are old vans with 200k+ miles and are driven constantly, so expect possible issues.Last thing to note is that they only offer 100 miles/day. Over that you’ll pay 30c per mile so be prepared for that at the end.

Comment: We rented a maverick camper van for 6 days. Went to Joshua Tree National Park, Red Rock Canyon, Zion National Park, and Valley of Fire.Truly one of the best adventures/trips I’ve ever taken. You get the opportunity to see so much more when you’re camping/on a road trip! Our van was a 2014 Model i believe and the seats were soooo comfortable for the long days of driving! We also got the kitchen set and bedding set which pretty much gave us everything we needed for our road trip.I definitely will be booking with this company again for my next road trip. Ended up being very affordable for what we were able to do and memories we were able to make!

Comment: The van and value for money was great - everything worked and was incredibly functional, efficient, and well designed. It was easy to drive and the rental process was smooth. I would definitely use this company again and I recommend the bedding and kitchen packs as extras. My only (small) complaint is that their San Francisco office is actually in Hayward, which is not that convenient, but also not a deal breaker.

Comment: The van was a great way to explore a few national parks in California. I’m giving it 4 stars for a few reasons like the storage system being difficult to open and a one burner stove that doesn’t have a way to protect from the wind. The one thing to watch out for is the daily mileage average of 100 miles that doesn’t get you very far during a 2 week road trip.

Comment: We drove Riva, who we nicknamed the desert dream machine. The van was great! Pickup and drop-off was very easy and quick, and prices were very transparent. Three of us drove around through Death Valley and Joshua Tree national parks and it was wonderful having everything we needed at all times in the van, which also fit into every parking space, while also being very spacious. Unfolding the bed each night and folding back up to drive was pretty easy. The little fridge fit everything we needed, but Id recommend packing your own sleeping bags and cooking utensils if you can, just to save money. We ended up only using the pan out of the kitchen kit. Cant wait until the next vacation and road trip!

Comment: I had an excellent experience renting from Escape Campervans. I rented the vehicle for a job which required me to be in New York City during the pandemic, so my business partner and I decided to drive there rather than fly. This was both for the experience and our safety. This was a pretty last minute decision and we were able to secure a vehicle that met our needs just 3 days before we departed. Jenna, a salesperson based in Denver, helped coordinate everything and get us a great deal for our rental, which was over 30 days.We rented the Big Sur and it was very easy to drive. This is why we put over 7400 miles on it! I would definitely recommend getting the additional insurance for any long trip, since we were surprised to find our vehicle had been hit while it was parked in NY. Reporting the accident was easy and we werent liable for any additional costs for what occurred. The bed inside is very comfortable and quite large! We also really enjoyed the rooftop camper, though it was hard to use once I was driving solo for the last part of the trip, so I opted to sleep inside. The fridge was great and stayed super cold and the sink came in handy for washing dishes and brushing our teeth. Some of the issues that I had with the van were with the construction of the a few things. The latches to hold the bed in place while driving werent exactly aligned, so it kept coming loose and sliding open while we were on the road. The smaller bench cushion wouldnt stay in place while driving either, so eventually we used some of our own velcro to secure it. Otherwise, it was sliding all around the back. Our table was kind of wobbly and the propane stove didnt stay exactly in place when we hit any bumps. Also, it would have been nice if the curtains were installed just a bit higher above the windows for keeping the light out. We used some velcro for those as well. Finally, while we would always get electricity on campsites, I would have loved the option for some kind of portable generator or inverter in the van for powering the space heater and other items. If we decided to pull off to sleep in a discreet location, we were out of luck as far as running power to anything, unless the van was on.Chrissy, based in LA, made it really easy to check in and out the vehicle and I was even reimbursed for an oil change that I had to get while on the road. I think I would rent from Escape again in the future, but I would probably get a smaller more affordable vehicle next time around. I was sad to turn back in the Lotus!

Comment: The good: Great friendly accommodating service. They allowed us to schedule an earlier pick-up time which was a big help since our flight came in early and we had a big day of driving ahead of us. Also, the on board battery was able and solar was able to keep the surprisingly spacious small fridge very cool. It was great to forgo the ice chest and finding ice, draining the cooler and all that hassle. And I have to say, I love the art work on all the vans. Very original and fun. The price was also very fair and the most affordable option I could find. The not so good: The van was had 200K miles and had some issues. The biggest was the bed didnt go completely flat until we figured out how to fix it the second day of our trip. That first night was not pleasant. Even after fixing it, the table top/secondary platform that support the foot of the bed would collapse in if you put your weight in the wrong place. We figured out a hack for that the 3rd night. Also the mileage was lower than expected at around 16mpg. Not horrible, but they advertise 20 mpg on their website. We also had the van stall when decelerating rapidly. A bit scary when on the freeway when hitting traffic. Oh, and the check engine light came on during our trip which I believe was a failing gas cap since it would go off when I adjusted the cap. They also require the renter to be responsible for engine problems due to low oil, tire damage, etc. This seems unreasonable. They shouldnt rent out vans that burn or leak oil and would require additional oil after 2 gas changes.Overall I think I would recommend Escape if you are on a tight budget and are okay with the risk an older van brings (or if you can get a newer van). I dont think we will use them again. I wanted to enjoy the trip, not worry about whether the van would make it. They did give us a $50 credit for the hassle we had with the bed which I appreciate, but it still didnt make up for the increased anxiety.

Comment: Great first time van rental, but would like to see these vehicles get a little more TLC. My wife and I rented a Maverick and had a great eight day trip through Grand Teton & Yellowstone. It was super convenient to travel with all our belongings and cook/sleep on the go.The vehicle held out for our trip with no serious problems, which was a huge plus, but there were a couple of minor things that I wish were addressed beforehand. One of the blinkers didnt work (this wasnt noticed until 10 hrs into our drive because it looked and sounded like it worked from the inside), and there was a small leak in the windshield that dripped on the steering wheel and dash. We also noticed on our trip back to LA that our vehicle was 1000 miles overdue for an oil change. We really liked how easy it was to switch back from the bed to the bench/table each morning and there was more storage space than we expected.I highly recommend renting from Escape Campervans as the vehicle met expectations in terms of functionality. It made camping much easier and I will certainly be renting again.

Comment: My wife and I rented the day of to escape the bad air in LA. The whole process was seamless; we reserved online, received a call in a few moments, and picked it up just a couple hour later and we were on our way.Escape Caravans is a fantastic and relatively inexpensive way to road trip. We covered ~2,000 miles. The van cost (rental, full insurance, gas, mileage) came out just over $1,600. Add national parks, and food on top and the total just came in under $2,000. So, 2k miles, 6 national parks, 11 nights, no shortage of food or beer at under $200 a day. Add on the great customer service, the epic experience, and countless memories and you have what can only be considered a great deal.We highly recommend this experience and we will absolutely use Escape Campervans again!

We typically cart our camping equipment but due to space limitations we decided to rent the van. It was clean and ran perfectly. We enjoyed the luxury of having our kitchen easily accessible without having to assemble it each time we changed campgrounds. Comment: We rented a Mavericks camper van with rooftop tent for 10 days for a trip from the Los Angeles area to Sunriver, Oregon and to the Oregon coast. This was perfect for us for the few nights that we would actually be camping out at 3 different sites between staying in homes. The size of our camper van allowed us to easily park in some of the smaller RV spots that were not reserved. We really appreciated having the small kitchen, sink and refrigerator drawer. Once we figured out the bedding and kitchen arrangement, we were able to get settled and cook pretty efficiently. The sink was ok - you have to keep pumping the handle to get water out so it’s nice to have someone else pumping while you’re washing hands or brushing your teeth. We did not rent any of the extras besides the rooftop tent. The ride was smooth. Everything worked well except for a small vent in the rear passenger area that we could not close. Overall we were very happy given that we drove almost 2,500 miles without any major issues. Customer service was good. We would definitely rent from this company again!

Comment: The van and trip was really cool, but DO NOT RENT THE BIKE RACKS. They improperly installed the racks and they are very old/falling apart. I put on my $5k full-suspension mountain bike and it fell off on the freeway! It cause a collision behind us and completely destroyed my brand new bike. Im now dealing with people insurances calling me, all because of this broken bike rack they gave us with confidence and their word. I still havent heard anything back from Escape about reimbursing me or taking liability for the accident and their faulty equipment. If they do not do so, I will have to take legal action against them.

Comment: We loved our 2 weeks in the Santa Cruz called Dreamland. Additionally, Escape was wonderful to work with planning the trip months in advance, and was always quick to respond to my questions via email. The van was extremely clean, and had plenty of storage space for two people and gear. We traveled about 2,200 miles and we were extremely comfortable the whole time. We were also grateful for the good fuel economy on the Santa Cruz. We were sad when we had to return the van, and we took so many pictures of it because it was so unique. Everyone loved seeing the van, and we would get lots of waves and smiles. It helped make for such a fun adventure. It fit in easily at tent sites in campgrounds, and it also did great outside of campgrounds. We would absolutely rent from Escape again, and we would recommend it to anyone. Comment: We rented the Mavericks camper van and were as happy as could be with our new home for a week. Our journey took us from the Escape location in Los Angeles to Leo Carrillo campground for our first evening; then we made our way to Sequoia National Park, saw General Sherman, and camped out at Potwisha campground. From there, we headed over to Death Valley, then to Joshua Tree, and then back to LA.For the course of a week, this van was our home. On the airplane, my girlfriend and I discussed renting a hotel on our last night because maybe wed be tired of living in the van: wed play it by ear. We completely kiboshed the hotel plan during our trip, because we were so happy living in, and waking up in, our van. Were from the east coast, so we were used to waking up earlier; this was perfect, because wed toss the curtains aside, snuggle, and watch the sun begin to rise. Id get out of the van in the morning to begin cooking, and at the end of the day, Id be so wiped that my girlfriend would handle cooking dinner. We had the perfect thing going. This beauty of a campervan got us where we needed to be, and was very manageable to drive on some of the crazier mountain roads; it did very well in Sequoia National Park en route to see General Sherman, where there are hairpin turns and switchbacks, left-right-and-center.The kitchen (complete with a pump-sink, stove, and, if you add the kitchen kit, plates, bowls, cutlery, spatula, spoon, 2 pots, a frying pan, and a scrubber) was everything we needed it to be. During a dust storm in Death Valley, we visited a restaurant for the first time during our visit because standing outside for 2 seconds was enough to fill your eyes and mouth with desert dust. That was a rough night, but it was only one night, so there was no damage to our wonderful camper van.We miss our van-home, and would absolutely recommend & rent from Escape, again. 5-stars well deserved for a fantastic automobile and wonderful service from the folks at the Escape location in Los Angeles.

Comment: Rented a maverick van for the weekend, super clean van, easy booking and I found a really affordable parking lot on the Way app for my car while I traveled. It’s at the Century Inn across the street from escape campervans. Overall a great experience and I will use them again!

Comment: This was my second year in Cali, so naturally a second ride with Escape. I spent the first week at Wasteland Weekend and got a lot of positive reactions despite it being more Burning Man than Mad Max but all in all, people recognized me as the guy with the fancy van.We went fully boondock except one night where we camper at Fire Valley (Nevada) because we needed showers, and the van treated us well.We also visited San Bernardino National forest and it was a bit cold (a heater would be recommended) but SO beautiful, also to hike there in the morning.Next year Ill definitely hire at Escape again.

Comment: My 5 year old son and I did a 9 day trip around California and we have nothing but nice things to say about our experience with Escape Campervans. The guys at the counter near LAX was very helpful and friendly. The van was great!!! The fact that the indoor light and fridge are connected to the solar panel and not the car battery is huge. They clearly know what they are doing from that to the velcro for the curtains to make sure they shut, the maps, the drawers that stay shut when driving, etc. Would definitely use them again.

Comment: My wife and I rented a campervan from Escape Campervans to drive from Los Angeles, CA to Portland, OR. We rented the Maverick, named Tug, and had an absolute blast. The van was a bit older, but it was clean, dependable, and a pleasure to drive. It was certainly a talking point with people we met along the way. Also, it was fun seeing all the other Escape Vans on the road as we waved at each other passing by.

Comment: Out trip went to Yosemite and down Highway 1 in California. Despite that we had some illness and our car broke down, it was a great trip! Stuff happens, and Escape Campervans was helpful and we got everything settled so we could enjoy our last part of the trip. Renting through Campervan is quick and easy, and they have a lot of suggestions on their website on where you could travel and etc. The van we rented is small enough to not be a hassle to deal with, but big enough so you can fit all your necessary gear and still that you have a good amount of space. The good part about renting a campervan is that you can go anywhere, and you can find spots that you would never find if you stayed at hotels and etc. It is not clamping, but way better. It is refreshing to camp on the campgrounds, wash dishes and make fires in the woods.

Comment: Escape Campervans was a great experience from start to finish. Kerry was extremely helpful and patient when we were having troubles with international payments for the deposit and they were flexible with our pickup and drop off needs. All facilities were as described. Would definitely use again in the future.

Comment: Overall we had a great road trip with our Mavericks van.Positives: The vans are VERY cool. You get a lot of attention and they look awesome on photos. The driver’s seat was comfortable and the van is easy to handle. The van’s kitchen was well equipped and saved us a ton on restaurants. We are a family of 4 and we made breakfast and dinner daily. The roof sleeper was pretty comfortable. I am 6’3 and slept well although my toes stuck out of the back at times.Negatives: the interior bed is not even and very uncomfortable for adults. It breaks your back. The van is VERY thirsty so you spend a ton on gas.

Comment: We absolutely LOVED our van (Maverick) and experience with Escape Campervans. Everyone was very friendly and helpful! This was our first real road trip and the van made it so easy, and crazy fun! We loved being able to hang out in the van, cook, have a sink, and being able to drive it in the city. We will definitely be using Escape Campervans again and I would recommend this company to anyone. Hoping they get a San Diego location soon :)

Comment: We had a fantastic time with our Regatta. Despite having stated a later pickup time we were able to get our van earlier without hassle. The service was super friendly, we got good tips for travelling and getting around.I loved the guide book in the van, it was filled with extremely useful tips. Im not one to read manuals or guide books of that sort but this one I read cover to cover. We had a new maverick which was perfectly equipped to get in and go. Coming from Europe, it meant we could leave sleeping bags and camping gear at home and just pack the things we really needed. What we didnt expect was how much gas the van burns. Even though gas prices are so low in the states, with the maverick we wound up spending more per mile than back home in Europe where the gallon costs over $5.Returning was also amazingly uncomplicated. We were out of there in less than 10 minutes. Thanks for making our trip unforgettable.

Comment: My kids and I had such a cool time. We loved our van (The Spectrum). It was easy to drive and comfortable for all our passengers. We had the optional roof top sleeper which added a whole new level of awesome. The main bed inside the camper was easy to assemble and when made into a bed, it provided a comfortable and spacious sleeping area. The kitchen proved to be easy to use and it it was stocked with all the cookware and utensils we needed. All the bedding was provided as well. People couldn’t get enough of the paint job. Such a fun adventure in style.

Comment: Renting an escape campervan was kinda mixed (but mostly positive) experience: The staff at the pickup point in LA was nice and helpful. Our van already had far more than 187000 miles on its back and right after we left LA the warning light for the engine came up. The so called „road assistance“ was a bummer first time we called. After a couple of phone calls one guy at least helped us finding a service station without painful detours. There was a Problem with the indicator for the fuel... could have been worse! We decided to go on and beside this incident „bonfire“ (the name of the car!) was pretty reliable. Well, also keep in mind that the battery for the fridge might die while driving through hot regions in summer... no one told us and some food went bad. Anyway, we had great trip and escape really tried to make it up for us in the end. Overall: Thumbs up!

Comment: As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to test from time to time - this weekend I was incredibly BLESSED with the opportunity to test out the Maverick Camper by Escape Campervans. This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time since my cat recently just passed away, and I do not take a second of this for granted. So where did we decide to go? First on the list, Morro Bay! My (now) husband and I fell in love in Morro Bay 6 years ago, and then he proposed to me at the Morro Bay Rock 2 years later. We figured we would bring our cat’s ashes to “The Rock” as a final resting place so we can make an effort to return as often as possible. After our day in Morro Bay, we continued on along the majestic Pacific Coast Highway until we reached Big Sur on Hwy 1.I’ve done this road trip many times since childhood, but it felt like an entirely new experience doing the trip in a campervan. I am, now, totally convinced that the #vanlife is for me. Here are my thoughts on the Maverick #JetsonVan.TRAVELING IN STYLE - I just LOVE LOVE LOVED the custom painted design on our campervan. Just seeing the beautiful colors and design put a smile on my face and made me happy. It brought out my inner-child and a reignited a new sense of adventure and curiosity that I haven’t felt since I was in grade-school. We need more of this in our everyday lives. Thank you Escape Campervans for reminding me of this.ROAD TRIP READY - I’ve done road trips, but never like THIS! The Maverick has everything you need to have the most relaxing, easy, and hassle-free experience ever. The campervan is so well-designed and packed with handy and useful features that really make your trip a breeze. I was able to spend less time packing and setting up, and more time to play. Escape Campervans also came with everything you can think of -- chairs, bedding, pots/pans, bowls/cups/utensils, you name it! There was very little that we needed to pack from home. Below are a few of our favorite featuresRooftop sleeper - This is a MUST! It was so fun sleeping on the roof of the van. It’s a little tricky at first to get up and down, but we were able to get the hang of it in no time.Solar powered refrigerator - I don’t know how I lived without this. It was so nice having our food and drinks chilled without having to worry about a cooler of melting ice sloshing around.Storage - there is so much storage for all your gear so it’s so easy to stay organized.Trunk Kitchen - The kitchen is so convenient and it facilitates spur-of-the-moment cooking with very little set up or clean up required. The counter space was really nice for prepping and easy to clean.THE ROAD TO FREEDOM - Our Maverick became our home away from home, and the best part? We were able to bring it with us everywhere. It’s super easy and smooth to drive, and we had the freedom of the open road ahead of us. I loved being able to just pull over during lunch time and enjoy a meal wherever we decided to park. While we did our day trip to Big Sur, we picked a quiet, shady spot to park with an EPIC VIEW of the Pacific Ocean. And if you’ve ever driven along the PCH past Hearst Castle to Big Sur, you’ll know there are so many lookout points to stop for sightseeing.

Comment: We loved our Escape Van experience. The van was spacious, well equipped & the bed surprisingly comfortable. The handle on the solar shower did break the first time we used it but still made it work. We picked up in LA and dropped off in San Fran - the drop off location was pretty inconvenient as not near the airport at all but doesn’t change the awesome experience we had! Would recommend.

Comment: Our family had a fantastic experience with escape camper vans. They were very attentive at pick up and all processes went smoothly. We covered over 1600 miles in our van ‘Foxy’ and everything was provided as described. The van was perfect for the four of us and we discovered many amazingly beautiful places in California on our travels.I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend escape camper vans to anyone looking to experience their very own US road trip.

Comment: We had an unforgettable experience and great adventures in Bernie, our Big Sur camper van, as we explored the central coast of California. My husband and I love tent camping, but the simplicity and ease of camper van life is hard to beat! We quickly hit the road each morning (after a cup of coffee, of course) and there wasnt much to set up each night. This really maximized our time for exploring.Bernie was very comfy for sleeping -- good support, blackout curtains, roomy and extremely quiet inside. We got plenty of quality sleep so we were always ready for the next days adventures. I wish I slept that well at home!I had never used a camp stove before but it was simple and efficient. We did a combo of camp fire and camp stove meals which worked perfectly for us.The staff at Escape Campervans is helpful, knowledgeable and quick to respond to questions. I HIGHLY recommend renting from Escape. You wont regret it!

Comment: We took a maverick van for 2 weeks, and had a great time. Escape provides everything you need for the trip (we had to buy a second blanket for the chilliest nights around Bryce and Zion at -6°C), the kitchen allows you to do pretty much everything you want (except if it rains and you dont have a roofed area, in this case youre screwed), and the van behaves really smoothly.Overall awesome experience with friendly people at every agency we went to (LA and SF)!

Comment: Yes! I has a great time with escape and I found the customer service to be pleasing. I had an issue on the road which was dealt with by the service team. The rates were fair compared to many other rentals that I looked at.For sleeping room there was A LOT of room for myself and my girlfriend. This would easily sleep 3, could do 4 and it would be cosy (which is a polite way of saying slightly cramped.)The bedding and kitchen equipment came in handy. Plus the gas stove worked well and there was so much gas provided. We supplied with 3 little canisters for our 3 week trip and used just over 1.5 canisters.I found the vehicle easy each enough to drive once I got used to it (it was massive!).Overall a good experience and I will consider them for my next visit for a road trip in the States!

Comment: Awesome Maverick campervan and even more awesome service. The van was equipped with everything and was in perfect running order! From reserving the van from the site to the pickup location (we went to LA) to showing us some of the features of the van - seamless, easy, and no surprises other then what we experienced in our adventures. We drove to Joshua Tree, Crystal Cove, and Leo Carrillo state park. I couldnt believe how easy it was to drive for me (Im 52 woman). This was also an unexpected trip sorta of a last minute thing, so having this van was perfect. It had folding chairs, a hand towel, pots, stove, sink, blankets, curtains, and space for us to load lots of firewood and our clothes. All we did was buy some groceries and firewood! We would definitely recommend this kind of experience to our friends and actually have started talking about our next campervan trip!We really appreciated how great our experience was and the memories we got from seeing parts of California in the Maverick campervan!!

Comment: I have just finished a three week solo trip around the west coast of the US. This van was more than enough to cater for everything I needed. There was plenty of space, the bed was easy to convert and comfortable, the kitchen area was great, and the vehicle itself drove great and didnt miss a beat.I did over 3000 miles and the van life was definitely the best way I could imagine to see the sights. The freedom of transport was a must and the money I saved never paying accommodation or limiting meals bought was enormous. 5 stars and will be doing this again.

Comment: 3 girls, 1 boy, 3 weeks, 1 van, 4 states. We all had a great and unforgettable time together. The staff working at Escape Campervans is super chill, friendly and very helpful. The booking process was very easy, questions were answered quickly. When we picked up the van, we were given a nice tour with all the infos we needed about the van. The guy explained everything very well, like how we build up the bed and the roof tent. Once youve done it, its all super easy. :)What we didnt expect was this cabinet full of stuff people left after their trips. People who are starting their trip can use it. So we didnt have to buy salt/pepper, lamp fuel, olive oil, other cooking stuff etc. All the things youd buy and never use them to end. Nothing gets waisted and its very helpful! We can highly recommend Escape Campervans for your trip. Our van Dotty became our best friend. She made us food and coffee, washed the dishes, she took us miles and miles, she had a good taste of music ;) But most importantly she protected us from the worst stormy night you can ever imagine. That was exciting!Everyone on the campgrounds and streets talked to us because of the van, they all took pictures and they just loved the design and were questioning us about it. We just loved the feeling and everything about the whole trip. Escape made our trip super easy and fun, cant wait for the next adventure!

Comment: The Escape Campervan was one of the best vacations we ever had! My wife, me, and three kids (10, 8, and 6) had it for a week and drove from LA to Seattle. We also got the extra rooftop sleeper, and had plenty of room for the 5 of us. The pick up took about 1 hour because there were some other groups there just before us, but the kids walked around and watched the spray painting of a couple new vans. Once we got to picking up the van, the contract, and going through the van was super easy. folding out the bed, using the topper, and the stove are super easy. We did not have a regulator on the stove, so it always was on high, just had to adjust the cooking method slighty (ended up making the best pancakes i have ever made though when we were in the redwoods).Van was super easy to drive and got surprisingly good gas mileage. Didnt calculate, but we spent under $300 on gas for the full 1500 trip, which was less than i was expecting. after we left LA, we realized that we forgot to pick up the table we rented. we called the SF location and stopped there to pick one up. All people were very helpful and super excited to hear about our trip.Spots on the trip, highly recommend Samuel Taylor campground, right in the redwoods, and nice flat parking in the campground for even sleeping. The best spot was Gold Bluffs Beach Campground. 6 miles of dirt road to get there, first come-first serve camping, but we got a spot right on the beach. we would not be able to go to this site with an RV, too big. Elk wander through the campground as well. we didnt want to leave there. As a Goonies fan i highly recommend going through Astoria! even though you cant go up to the Walshs house, other spots are fun.Dropping off the van was also easy, quick review of car and contract, then receipt came right away after i left. Best thing to say about them, is that our kids have already started planning the next trip with Escape, Las Vegas and going to the Grand Canyon. Best way to travel. Thanks Escape Campervans, bring a location to MN for awesome trips up the north shore or superior!

Comment: Really decent camper, was perfect for our California adventure. Everything an adventurous couple needs to explore the deserts and mountains of the West Coast. Comment: This is a great camper van. I first saw these vans in New Zealand painted with album art-work and quotes and thought it was a great idea. Flash forward to now the American version, it is spacious, well maintained and very ergonomic. We brought our three year old along. His car seat had no issues connecting to the DOT rear bench in the Econoline. The extra battery for the heater at night was a plus and we never got chill. In the mornings we opened up the doors and relaxed in our warm van with the gorgeous California view.-Three by the Sea
