Comment: Doubled the rent after three months. One employee/ manager hovers the other is callous. Location is covered in industrial dust from nearby metal recycler, railroad, port, refinery etc. This dust will seep into your unit and get on your stuff as it gets extremely windy at this location. This was my personal experience at this location.

Comment: This is a clean facility with helpful and friendly caretakers, Christine and Andre. Cleanliness is very important to me as I moved here after a traumatic experience with another storage facility company hwhere my things were ruined due to lack of care. At Meeker St. Extra Space,I regularly see Christine or Andre riding around the grounds in their golf cart checking the grounds or sweeping up hallways.Another bonus is a bathroom for customer use during office hours.I docked one star, not because of the storage space, but because I was offered a move-in deal, and after just 3 months, extraspace raised my rent 100 dollars, 2/3 of what I was paying.When I called Andre to explain I was moving to a cheaper facility he wasn’t even aware of the price bump. When I went online extra space was offering a movein price of 84 dollars for the same size unit they now wanted me to pay 257.00.I highly recommend this facility, especially for 3 months or less, or maybe don’t get the special move in price to keep price consistent.Again, I could not be happier with the service and cleanliness of this location. I would definately have stayed had it not been for such a large rent increase.

Comment: Start to finish, I found the process to be easy. With the help of Andre at Meeker Ave, I was able to schedule a delivery for a military move. They call it PSCing and there can be challenges. Andre helped with answering questions about the timing of delivery, was willing to work with our tentative dates, and also discussed best rates. He spent the time to help us sort out the logistics for a smooth delivery day with the movers. The facility is clean, well maintained and is at a good location. Storage can be pricey and we’re happy with rates they were able to offer for the size that we needed. They have an online payment system, which works well for our long-term rental. Glad we found Extra Space Storage!

Comment: I was having a very difficult 2021 as I am sure a lot of people can relate to right now. I had very recently rented a unit at 154$/mo and then I received notice that the price was going up to 233$/mo. I hadn’t been there more than 3 months so this was very disheartening especially at the end of the year. I called the customer service and they gave me the whole it’s in your contract you are on month to month there is nothing we can do line. I decided to call the office to speak with the people at the office. Now I understand that my price would eventually increase but 3 months into my stay to go up 100$ just didn’t seem right. I went into the office and Andre was the such a great help. He made it clear that he couldn’t promise anything but that he would try his best to see if the rate could be reduced even for a few months which seemed fair to me. I wasn’t asking to have the same price forever but I think it’s fair to at least have 6-12months before a rate hike. Andre went above and beyond and really listened and made me feel like a valuable customer and not just a number. Thanks to his effort and his DM’s understanding they were able to help me out. I was in a tough spot and They could’ve easily said no and had me go on my way. But not Andre, he was vouching for me and made sure my point of view was heard. I’ve had other storage units before and their customer service has always been on par with that of the DMV. But not this office! The meeker ave office has a tremendous asset in Andre, I hope they appreciate the effort and work he puts in for his customers. Comment: I came to this location Extra Space Storage on Meeker Richmond California from online servicing. Shortly after the purchase I received the phone call from the manager her name is Chris, she was giving me a welcome call instructions and the layout of the property because there are tracks that runs in between the office and the storage containers. She was very warm and friendly and there was almost like I had met her before. The following day my husband and I arrived only to meet a second manager. Which turned out to be Chriss husband Andre. Immediately there was an aura of comfort inside the office for a lack of a better word. Andre was very handy and helpful when it came to stacking my storage unit to keep the rate that I had from online. Because once I drove up to the unit I purchased I saw that it was three times smaller than what I needed. Andre came to my U-Haul Van looked inside and immediately said yes you can fit these things inside he was more like looking out for my economics my budget and I agreed! Of course I had to run this by my husband so he came inside, met Andre and you might as well say I was not there!! They were like two brothers that hadnt seen each other in years!! It was really nice!! Long story short, my husband was tired, so we opted for a larger unit. I was paying pretty close to double at another storage. I am a winner!! I would advise anyone looking for a storage unit and in the area of Meeker Avenue Richmond California please stop by and meet Mr and Mrs Andre and Chris they are awesome!!! I thank you guys so very much for all your help all your warmth and your welcoming. Thee place is immaculate!! Comment: The whole process was very easy to follow and set up. The online registration was simple and user friendly. But the best thing was the staff at this location. When I arrived on site for the first time to pick up my key and visit my unit Andre called me right away to welcome me and to let me know that he was available if I had any questions or needed any additional assistance. After picking up my key from my unit I went in side to meet him face to face. She was very kind and generous with information. Thank you for making the whole process easy!

Comment: Excellent Customer service all-around. Clean and well maintained, looks like a new storage facility, but is actually well-established. My only problem is the train that rumbles by at 5mph, makes you wait to get into your storage space.An update (7/6/2022): I just moved out of my Extra Space Storage unit to move to the mid-west. The process was clean and simple, and Christine and Andre were there when I had questions. This is a high quality storage facility and I would highly recommend it.

Comment: In re the Meeker Avenue facility in Richmond, the two managers, Christine and Andre are fantastic. They are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. In addition, they keep their facility clean as a whistle. I would give them five stars.In re the company, specifically pricing, my rating would be zero stars. My initial stage rate was $279 (1/21), which increased to $335 in April 21(+20%), then to $388 in January 22 (+16%). That is a $109 increase in twelve months, a whopping 39%. Im a free market guy, but that is unconscionable if the firm is desirous of long term business relationships.

Comment: I’ve stored my property at Extra Space for many years and it’s been a very positive experience. It’s clean, safe, and open at all hours you’ll need. Christine and her husband manage it and they have always been wonderful and helpful. My only complaint is the annual price increases. They are way too much. My 10X10 space went from $139 a month to $420 a month. That’s way too high for storage space. I moved 40 miles away, got a new 10x10 storage unit for $209 a month. I hope Extra Storage will stop raising their their prices so much. Otherwise, this is a great place and run really well.

Comment: Both Andre and Christine are professional, friendly, and communicate in a timely manner. Initially there were no storage spaces available in the sizes I was looking for but Andre took down my info and both he and Christine followed up in the days after and let me know right away when a space became available. Christine walked me through the sign up process over the phone and we completed the contract via email while on the phone. Auto-pay and text alerts were set up at that time. There were 2 rental rate options and Christine explained to me which one would be better for shorter term rental (2-3 months) versus longer term (3+ months). An initial service fee ($25) and a monthly insurance fee based on estimated value of goods that will be stored are added to the monthly rental rate.The facility is easy to access off of the freeway. Parking spaces are available at the front office. The entire facility and property look well-maintained. The unit I signed up for had been cleaned and serviced already when I arrived to inspect it and pick up the lock provided. You are given an option for keyed lock or combination lock to secure the entry door to the unit.A couple of things to note: Make sure to look both ways when entering the property where you enter the gate code. There is an active railway line there (trains have 7mph speed limit there) and also be careful when opening your storage unit as the sliding latch mechanism might be a bit stuck and need to be jostled to move to the unlocked position as my unit’s was. I cut my finger while moving the metal latch.Photos are of a 10’ x 10’ unit.

I try to get a space at the location in Berkeley and was less than pleased, I had setup a reserve space on the weekend and told them I’m be there in a few. Got to the site in less than an hour and they told me they had rented it. Not happy.I left and later ended up reserving another space on-line but it was a bit smaller now for the same price. Went to check it out and it was in a corner with no light and a bit hard to get into. So I ask to switch to another space and got charged a transfer fee, went to check out the new space and one of the walls (drywall) was broken, pushing into my space and you could see the contents of the other space, it would be easy for them to just push on the drywall and come into my space. Talked to the front desk and the guy wasn’t very accommodating or pleasant, I told him I can’t move in there until it gets repaired and said I didn’t want to be charged for the days I can’t use it, but the guy at the front desk said he couldn’t do anything but he can refund my money or I can wait till it gets fix. Not happy…I decided to check out a different location and found one that is 6 miles from my house instead of just a 1 ½ miles. The guy at 1900 Meeker ave was very nice and helpful and the space was a drive up 5x10 for less then in the Berkeley location and built way better, why didn’t I just come here in the first place. So I took it and end up canceling the space at the Berkeley location but lost out on some money in doing so, again not happy.The first guy I had talk with at the Berkeley site was ok and seen willing to work with me some but he left and the other guys was just not making me feel good at all.SO yeah, not all sites are created equal, I think I’ll be happy at the Richmond site even though it’s a 6 mile drive, they seem very nice there and the space is way better.5 stars for the Richmond location but only 3 stars or less for the Berkeley site.

Initially, I was connected to the corporate office that answered most of my questions about availability and price but wasn’t able to answer a few specific questions about this property. They committed to having the property manager call me and Andre did within 30 minutes. He candidly answered questions about security, locks, best unit size, and was very pleasant. He took the time to address every question and never seemed in a rush to get off the phone which I appreciated. After securing a unit over the phone, I went to pick up my packet/keys and check out the unit in person. Christine helped me get settled in, took time out of her day to make sure and answer any questions, and cared that I had everything I needed.As for the units, most are drive up accessible, are clean, secure, and the location is safe. It also made me feel better that both property managers live onsite. They are also splendid people that love their job and do it to their very best.

Comment: Its always a breath of the freshest air to when graced by people who are genuinely good people. When you can feel the golden heart that beats when in their presence. Today I had a lot to do in a little bit of time... Chris and Andre were truly the ease and comfort to the agenda set before me. I was able to speak freely, laugh, smile, become more knowledgeable, and see the ramifications of the decisions made. I emptied an older unit into a larger unit. I also viewed a unit that I thought to be a worthy size but decided on another path. Through it all these two were full of spirit, positivity and lent tools to make the work easier. Having been with extra space for around 10yrs my times spent with these two are by far the most memorable and indeed the reason why I stay! Thank you both for your services, support, and friendship. Comment: As soon as we walked in a lady was yelling and arguing with a costumer. They left outside and we came in to ask for a price, the lady that was there to help us was not helpful at all making things really awkward and not professional at all. Then the First Lady that was yelling and arguing came back in and started but in the conversations and only to find out she’s the manager. My fiancé pointed out that he and his grandma worked with storage unites and know how things work, he only brought that up just because since the lady helping us didn’t seem to know what she was doing. We just wanted a price. So the “manager” that was yelling and acting all crazy started saying stuff like “oh she has to ask all these questions because we need to know all of this information I live here I’m the manager things can change “ and she said that with a loud tone and sarcastically we just then decided to leave. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! They are rude and unprofessional.

Comment: I needed a to store my truck/camper somewhere safe and reasonably nearby while our driveway at home was being replaced, and I chose this place on the strength of all the positive reviews it got online. Im very glad I did. All the reviewers were right: this is a great business, run really well by REALLY nice people, and I feel totally comfortable leaving my camper stored there. Andre was super helpful in every way--on top of being just a great guy--and all aspects of the operation went smoothly. I highly recommend this Extra Space Storage facility on Meeker Avenue.

Comment: I never experienced such great customer service in my life!! I cannot begin to thank Andre for all he did for me and my father. We got to Extra Space Storage, and Andre aside from us showing up last minute (5:50pm) he was more than willing to show us the two storage sizes he recommended for us. Not only that but he did everything in his power to get us a unit the same day. I do not know any other places where the people in charge are extremely helpful and will do anything in their power to help their customers. I highly recommend this place; you will never find anyone like more helpful, kind, friendly or thoughtful than Andre.

Unfortunately this is rarely the case with most storage locations. No one looks forward to moving and storing. But when you are greeted by two warm, happy, and educated individuals; such is the case with A & C it changes the entire experience to something a lot closer to pleasurable.
