Comment: I had this unit with the intent of just being there for a month or two. Well, life gone the way and it ended up being a lot more than that! And throughout that time I have been treated very well with the staff and management. I recommend whether it’s a long-term or short term that extra space storage is a great place to do that. When I was finalizing my storage unit and leaving, Apollo and Milton were there to ensure everything was in order when I moved out. Thanks again guys!

Comment: Apollo manages the office well, however I started renting a 5x10 unit for about $90 in 2017, and there were price increases over and over and over again. I understand the first one. Because the price originally was a very good deal, and I understand you had to come up to market price. However, the price increases kept exhilarating. So now that same space is $ 254. Price increases kept coming too rapidly in my opinion.And I think its dishonorable. I think its greed and Im very unhappy with the way your company runs.Ive gone to an extraordinary amount of effort to move from a 5x10 unit into a 5x6 unit that is now $80. I will be very upset if you raise the price immediately after 3 months. I will just plan on getting my stuff out of storage and not use your services anymore. There is a huge homeless problem in LA because rent is SO high.And your company charging exorbitant rates is part of the problem. Its unacceptable.

JJ was fantastic in looking at available units close to my original unit to make the transition as easy as possible and was great at explaining the process. Keith was there when I actually moved units and was very helpful even with it being his first and second day on site and city electricity issues!Since I was swapping units, there were some additional backend work that needed to be done, both JJ and Keith were very responsive, communicative, and great at following through to the end to get everything in order for me!ORIGINAL POST (2022)Just got a large unit recently and did the entire process of renting online, which was easy enough.Wasn’t 100% sure how things worked/ how I would get access to the unit, but upon my arrival, I met Stephen who was doing his on-foot patrol of the grounds. He was super helpful, showed me how the unit worked and how to access things. He even gave me a better lightbulb for nighttime. I have yet to use it, but appreciate the swap.4 stars bc of the price - but chose it since I like the location.Wish there was access 24/7 but so far the experience has been positive.

Each time I called, I felt as though I was talking with a friend who genuinely cared that my needs were met, and that my experience was painless. I actually got off the phone wanting to be more like JJ. Honestly if you are feeling down, swing by and ask for JJ. I’m fairly certain an interaction with him would brighten your day.Im a little annoyed at the steep, monthly rate-hiking at Extra Space. That’s what brings this over-all score down to a 3 star review.Pro tip: if you can manage to pay several months up front, you won’t be subject to the frequent, large rate increases.Pro tip #2: Aspire to be more like JJ.

Comment: Don’t trust this storage facility. The onsite manager was nice, but company raised the rent to $380 per month. A $100 increase per month for an upstairs, indoor unit, at the back of the property was unacceptable. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. I agreed to pay $280 per month and so it should have stayed at that rate for at least a few more months before increasing it a fraction of that amount.I didn’t mind paying $280/ month to keep my snowboarding gear, camping gear, holiday decor, off season wardrobe & a couple pieces of small furniture (which I was deciding to sell or use in my new space). I moved out based on principle when the storage company opted to increase the rent +$100 per month (to $380/month). Their action shows that they don’t value me as a customer. I rented the storage units for five months.The storage facility was clean. I would have kept the unit for convenience had the rate not increased so much so quickly. What an inconvenience and a waste of my time.___________________________________To add insult, Extra Space’s reply to my post about to raising the rent +$100 in the first couple of months. They addressed it with template language, not addressing the ridiculous amount of the increase, nor the short amount of time in which the increase occurred. Instead, stated that the rental rate is not guaranteed for the life of my rental. Making it seem as if I had noted the renal increase of an insignificant percentage over a long period of time. Corporate office needs to have some accountability. Especially since the onsite staff is great - their hands are tied from negotiating with the corporate office. What a shame.

Comment: Staff was great, getting things upstairs was awful. The elevator is very small so if you have something bigger than a trash can you will have to carry things up the stairs. Also the elevator will lock your things inside exactly at nine so if you don’t want to come back the next morning at 6am, make sure your done by 9pm.

Comment: I just moved from my previous Extra Space Storage in the Atwater area. The manager there, Ken, was incredible. The new South Pasadena location is more convenient for me now. Apparently Extra Space has recently taken over management of this property. It is as clean and secure as their other properties I have rented at. Stephen the manager was so helpful and informative, and JJ his assistant made the rental process quick and easy, as I didn’t have a lot of time. I know I’ll be well taken care of at my new storage location. Plus it’s located right next to the Gold Line, lots of good restaurants, and the Thursday afternoon/evening farmers market that I always go to! They’re also adding more spaces. I need a bigger one!

Extra Space Storage changed everything to be more user friendly as doors and gated were automated, payments could be made online and hours were more flexible. I can never get to my storage because of the odd hours and lunch breaks. Its unfortunate that Extra Space Storage is buying up all the good storage facilities .DECEMBER 2018I’ve only been a customer of this storage location for about 1.25 months, about 3 weeks ago, ownership changed. I was worried, luckily JJ and Michael have been helpful and courteous. The only thing that worries me now is the anticipated price hike. Hopefully the owners are as nice as these guys and don’t gouge our wallets .

Everything is clean and “in-tact” (Other storage buildings in the area have holes in walls and floors in units are dirty- not this place!).

Comment: Why only 5 stars? If I could, it would be double that. I have rented from this facility for some time, since it was owned by someone else. So when Extra Space took over, I was very concerned about the change. I shouldnt have been. Steve, the manager, has been just outstanding, very professional, but in a comfortable way! He has quelled all my initial concerns and in fact now I am more comfortable than I was with the previous owners. It is very refreshing to see a business run with integrity and respect for fellow-man. Because of Steve, I will be with very Extra Space for a long time. Thanks!

Comment: THE NICEST PEOPLE EVER MANAGE THIS LOCATION. Seriously.If you’re looking for a storage unit, I highly recommend Extra Space Storage on Mission Street. Management is awesome!! They are so super friendly and make you feel so right at home. I’m confident we made the right decision by choosing this storage spot. It’s super safe, all the units are behind a coded gate and everyone building has locked doors, and they have convenient lifts to move stuff upstairs. They’re the best!!

Comment: Yesterday the power was out for maintenance and the storage units were closed. I was in a panic since Im hosting an event today and need my party supplies. JJ Spielmann, the assistant manager who was on the site, went out of his way to insure that Id be able to get into my unit regardless of if the power was restored or not. He even notified me once everything was up and running and double checked my unit as well. While everything would have worked out fine anyway, he really went above and beyond making sure that I didnt have a nervous breakdown in the process. JJ rates a huge thumbs up!

Comment: I was very pleased to be helped by JJ, the manager at this location. Despite my frantically arriving there only 15 minutes before closing time, he took the time to thoroughly answer all my questions, cleaned my storage unit, and he stayed way past closing time so that I could load all my stuff in to the unit. He was super nice and I felt the building was very safe and clean. Also I’m glad the hours available to customers will be extended to include 6am to 10pm.

Comment: We rented a unit when it was called Southmark, and Extra Space Storage took over in late 18. With the change, Extra Space announced we may no longer access our property on Sundays, at least until new keypads are installed on doors to buildings. It has made my unit almost completely inaccessible to me, since Im generally busy the other 6 days. JJ and the other mgr in the office have been great, but this place needs to get its act together in regards to operating hours.
