Comment: Worst customer service experience! Rent storage space literally anywhere else. On Saturday, 2/3/24, I called the main line to rent a large 10x20 unit. The gentleman I spoke with was perfectly helpful. He asked when we could come down. I told him between 1:30 and 2:00 that same afternoon. He said he’d schedule our move-in then and to come on down. When we showed up just before 1:30, the office was locked. A couple was knocking on the door to avail despite the woman working being inside. I called in the office number I’d been given to let them know we’d arrived. The woman answered and immediately placed me on hold. After nine minutes on hold, my husband went to knock on the door but the woman ignored him refusing to come to the door. A couple minutes later she existed the building. My husband said hello and tried to ask her if they we were open and to let her know we’d spoken to her colleague on the phone who’d told us we could come check in at this time. She walked past him completely ignoring him. He repeated his question two more times, but she continued to refuse to even acknowledge he existed. She got into her car and sped. Fortunately my husband moved out of her way as it certainly didn’t appear as though she would be concerned if she ran into him. It’s pretty tough to say you work in the customer service industry if you refuse to even acknowledge your customers exist. As a direct result of our encounter with her, Extra Space lost a customer and Public Storage now has our business. Move in there went smoothly. I’d highly recommended using them or any other storage facility you chose over this one.

They are always personable and professional. They return your phone calls in timely fashion and they work with you as far as keeping your rate as low as they can 2henever there is a rate increase. They are friendly and helpful. Thats the reason Ive been here so long.

Comment: I had a small unit in the center of the facility and it was broken into last Oct while I was travelling internationally. No communication at all about the break in which is not great(they claim they have called but my phone was on 24/7, no call/text/email), they did help changing my lock and my original lock was cut in pieces.Staff are helpful and friendly(the lady who helped me throughout is very nice), told me how to process insurance claim and insurance claim was fairly easy with a police report.Would not recommend using this facility unfortunately, they have no CCTV in the middle of the facility... I lost over $3k of stuff but can only claim 3k due to insurance limit. It sounds like break in happens often. If you are just putting away bulk/non valuable items, I think it might be ok.

Comment: Site staff are great and experience with customer service are good but I wouldnt recommend due to my storage being broken into and doubling of rent within ~4 months. Also the site is not 24/7 but has decent hours.Pros:* Good customer service* You can pretty much drive up to your unit* Largish site where I felt privacy when loading and unloading my items.* Had a good promo price but be careful with that price raising rug pull* Look like they at least have a couple of cameras but only on the perimeter (maybe that is good since it isnt recording what you are loading and unloading into your storage)Cons:* Not 24/7* Apparently the latches are easy enough to break into as was demonstrated by thieves breaking into mine and several other lockers. (Although nothing was taken from mine so thats good)* My rent was doubled after about 4 months. This point is the really annoying one they didnt raise it slowly or anything but I just got a letter in the mail that my rent would be doubled past a certain date. I didnt even receive this notice as through an email or text message so I could have easily missed this, it feels really bad like they are trying to trick me into paying at least a month of the high rent.

They are so much better and a lot easier to use than the previous timer dial ones as they were always really hard for me to turn.Second update (06/28/2022): They posted no smoking signs on some of the buildings.Third update: (10/30/2022): Just finished sweeping out my unit and removed the lock in order to move out. Ive revised my original review a bit for clarity.Pros:* Location is clean.* I feel safe visiting my unit alone even at night.* You can use your own padlock style lock even if you are forced to purchase theirs because you reserved the unit online. You can get your money back by giving the lock back to the office staff onsite.Cons:* Rates can change monthly and become an unjustifiable expense fairly quick. I have had my unit for just over a year and right before the 1 year anniversary date, they raised rates again. The cost of my unit has literally almost DOUBLED in 12 months with no additional value provided by Extra Space aside from motion sensing lights.Move in: Unit = $56, Insurance = $14.20, Admin Fee = $253 months at: Unit = $56, Insurance = $14.209 months at: Unit = $88, Insurance = $14.201 month at: Unit = $102, Insurance = $14.20* You have to contact the location directly with questions by phone or in person, there is no help at the corporate level.* Access hours are 6 AM - 10 PM instead of 24/7.* Mobile app is only good for opening the gate, you cannot use it to manage your account or make a payment. It just opens a web browser for you if you do anything aside from open the gate.* Gate code is really long. Using the mobile app comes in handy if you dont visit your unit often enough to memorize the code.

Comment: The best part about this place is Teresa! She is the primary reason for the generous rating. She is very kind, friendly, makes all guests feel welcomed and always has a positive attitude. Even over the phone you can hear her positivity shinning through. When I asked her about the recent break ins she was very honest with me and answered all my questions and patiently showed me multiple units as I was indecisive about the size to get.The lot itself is very clean. Its kinda expensive but given recent inflation it is understandable. Just know that your rent will increase within a few months (3months). It can and has doubled in the past but you wont know the exact amount because its based on the demand of the future. I do find that a little annoying because I cannot properly plan and prepare so just take this as your warning if you cannot afford to pay double then opt for a smaller size to play it safe. Speaking of safety there have been recent changes made to help deter thieves and keep units safe including hiring security and installing live surveillance.

I am from Boston but my stuff is at their unit for when I move back out there. I received a voicemail yesterday that my ENTIRE unit except for my car was robbed and cleaned out. Obviously this is a devastating hit both financially, emotionally, and everything else in between. The front desk woman, Teresa, and the manager, Neal, could not have been less helpful or caring. Teresa led me in the wrong direction all day, would not pick up my calls or respond to my texts and hung up the phone because I swore regarding my $20,000+ worth of things being gone from my life. IT GETS WORSE. I called Santa Clara PD and this exact storage facility has been broken into 20 plus times in the last month!!!!! They never warned any of the tenants, no email, no text, just waiting until the next one gets robbed. The Officer I talked to said management expressed they were waiting for new cameras and nothing has changed. The people who broke in came through the back fence and robbed 9 units on Monday, July 19th. They have ONE...ONE camera at the front gate so there is no surveillance. When I asked for information regarding the renters insurance, Teresa told me I had to fly out to Santa Clara, go to the police station in person and then bring paperwork to them. The officer said that was blatantly false and I am working on a police report through email and phone with police right now. The lack of concern, disgusting showcase of humanity, and incompetence from this extra space team is foul and I strongly believe this was an inside job. It has been a month and not a single new camera has been installed. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT STORE YOUR STUFF AT THIS LOCATION. For whoever thinks this might be a false review, please respond and I will contact you with more information because they are responsible for completely ruining the next few months of my life and losing sentimental items like funeral cards, old pictures with family, cards, and so much more. No one deserves to go through this. For anyone else who sees this who also had there unit robbed, please emphasize my review and be in touch because a lawsuit is pending. DO NOT GO HERE, YOUR STUFF WILL NOT BE SAFE.This facility is responsible for severe malpractice and the fact that they falsely advertise their security when in reality they’ve been telling Santa Clara PD for 9 months that they were waiting on cameras. Comment: DO NOT STORE YOUR THINGS AT THIS FACILITY, chances are you will never see them again. My grandson recently had his storage unit robbed by thieves. Everything in the unit was meant to be moved into his new apartment in a new city he is moving to. After hearing about his experience yesterday, I am left so angry and sad that I had to write this review. It was clear the employees at this location do not care about the situation at hand. We just gifted him his grandfathers watch which was left in the unit and this is a true dagger for our family and our hearts. Apparently there have been countless break ins at this unit and they haven’t done anything to resolve the issue. Just awful. Do not go here, this location deserves to go out of business.

Comment: First of all it’s super easy to find your unit as the letters of the columns are all very visible. All the units are in numerical order (sounds obvious but sometimes it’s not). I paid online and drove literally straight to my unit and it was all ready! They give you a code to get in the gate and a brand new lock was provided in the unit. I was unsure how to open the door (lol) but there was staff there to show me the easiest way to do it. Five stars all around.

Comment: I rented here for a long time since 2019 and moved out in January. I just have to say that they made my life so much harder. Brian who I spoke to on the phone didnt give me the full information I needed for ending my use of the space from a long distance which I was for more then a year. Most importantly I think is when I got there they had a lock put in that they never gave me the keys too. After breaking the lock with their tools i realized they had mixed up my door number with someone else, they said since legally it was my space I had to empty it out to close my account. I was so close to taking someone elses stuff but I insisted that we check the next door which was in fact mine. Just saying the other guy had much more valuable things and it would have been unfortunate if he lost them because extra space storage made an unacceptable mistake. I hope that other man gets compensation because they had me there moving all his things.

Comment: Great location for storage and professional staff. What i don’t like is that the storage facility is not secure. Too many thefts in this storage areas where the thieves cut the lock or cut the entire bracket where the lock goes. Hence no storage unit is safe . Ask the Santa Clara police station for a report of break-ins in the storage and you will be surprised. Staff is nice, friendly and helpful but it seems the management doesnt care about its customers . For the high rent they are charging customers, they should take extra measures to prevent break ins. Our unit got robbed and the thieves cut the bracket where the lock goes and took away most of our belongings. It was a nightmarish situation for our family.

Comment: Well, the only reason for -1 star is because the web page for this storage facility leads you to believe that you need a special lock so that you will purchase theirs when in fact you really can use just about any lock you want. Other than that, the facility is rather large and even though its not 24hr access, the hours of operation are pretty reasonable. The staff was somewhat friendly and accommodating. Dont trust Google maps to be accurate when it says where it is when you arrive otherwise you will pass it.

Elena who works at the desk is absolutely amazing and was extremely helpful when I was moving out my daughter from Santa Clara University. When we arrived my daughter was hesitant about the size of the storage unit and was afraid everything wouldn’t fit, but Elena assured us that we would be able to make it work and even offered to assist us to stack the furniture. At the end of the day everything did fit, so thank you so much Elena for encouraging us! Not to mention this storage space is super close to campus so all students from SCU should definitely use this storage space when moving out and storing all of their furniture when moving back home for Summer! Comment: In the year and a half Ive had storage here, theyve raised the rate three times. First one was only after a couple months so dont believe the web rate because it doesnt last long. It went from $99 to $140 in a year and its only a 7x10. After loading my Uhaul to move to Colorado, I didnt have enough room in the truck to take a couple empty cardboard boxes, a broken tv, and a broken printer to a dumpster so I figured they would just throw those away for me. Theres a dumpster on premise that could totally fit those tiny items, but after trying to close my account, the manager claims they needed to hire a moving company to dispose of those items. Five items of which three were empty boxes?!?! Really?? To sum things up, Im in Colorado now so I have to get a friend in San Jose to go out of their way and drive over there. They also charged me another $140 for an extra month. Ive also tried calling them over the last month and nobody has picked up the phone. I know its post COVID, but your hours online say youre open. Thanks for the headache Extra Storage.

The property looked clean and well kept and the unit was perfect for what I needed, thanks Neil!Im editing my review of Extra Space Corp and is not a negative reflection on the employees, this is about there policies.Rate increase came in the mail today.  So as millions of Americans are trying to catch back up from being out of work, trying to pay their rent, pay their bills, get groceries, pay their utilities, work from home and homeschool all while trying to keep their sanity you guys feel it necessary to increase rates during a pandemic, not to mention the fires and hurricanes that continue to impact so many people.  Its unbelievable that you would take this approach, especially how much you taught us to be customer service orientated customer-focused, and customer advocates.  But it always came back to the numbers, how do we get more out of the customer, and the Year Over Year gain. Doesnt feel very customer friendly to me, especially during these trying times.  I will pay my increase in storage fees because I was fortunate enough to continue working during the shelter in place orders first started.  I will also continue to store my items there because the majority of the employees there are wonderful people and I dont blame them for your corporate policies. I say this so people know where  stand when it comes down to how you really care for customers.

When we arrived, Josh explained to us that due to the state health order he could only have one person inside the office at a time. He provided a condition that in order to rent a warehouse I had to pay insurance that was not required by law. I told him I would pay if needed. In any case, he canceled my arrival and rented the Unit for unexplained reasonable reasons. I dont know if its legal, but its wrong. I was never acknowledged by Neil, nor was he ever welcoming or courteous, I let it go, and strictly dealt with Josh. This was a very difficult time in my life. However I continued to forge ahead doing everything in my power to be positive, courteous, and not give up considering many insurmountable obstacles. I paid my storage rent on time, I was respectful of the facility. As a single woman alone moving with very limited resources, the process was difficult, trying to move out of the unit. Neil was very rude, in ways Ive never experiences, in a business, he gave me judmental and disgusted glares never smiling, or speaking to me,. I let it go never making an issue, because maybe i was just being sensitive or misreading him. I had spent over 8 hours at my storage pulling everything out trying to downsize. I was told by Neil first time ever speaking to me(rude and condesending) you cant dump your garbage here referring to a tiny side table that I could not fit but would return the next day, to complete move out, Neil drives up on his golf cart with his disgusted look on his face, telling me you know we close at 10 you need to hurry and get this done to be out on time it was only 6 pm, I replied Im doing the best I can, being I kept having to repack my storage, i wasnt able to put 2 very nice white leather bar stools in to heavy Im exhausted physically and mentally, again not trash, i just simply could not lift the chairs into my space, they Neil and Josh were very aware of my circumstance, I doing all I can to vacate. I come back the next day arranging a truck finally to remove big stuff and finally be able to completely move out, to come to a locked gate. Neil denied me access to get in to complete my move out, saying you dumped trash allover left a huge mess. Absolute LIE AND COMPLETE EXAGGERATION! two nice chairs are not dumping trash. He not only locked me out, but he charged me $100.00 dumping penalty. I asked him kindly please consider Im doing best I can, its very difficult to arrange for people who are helping me, and this is causing me an extreme hardship, Neil proceeded to tell me he didnt care, calling me a liar and telling me he did not trust me, so I would have to suffer his outlandish control issues. I only needed 20 minutes and would be completley vacated. Neil continued to be very cold and uncompromising causing more hardship, while treating me inhumane, which is a violation of my civil rights. I took it to corporate and Todd was siding with Neil and giving me a no win situation. This delayed me 4 days of moving time. It wasnt until I called Josh asking him to assist me in this horrific process being he was who I was working with. He was understanding and knew I was simply trying to move out. Neil continued to place obstacles, setting me up for failure. And Todd hung up on me denying me any sort of solution. After all said and done Josh with his kind heart allowed me back in and in 10 min I was totally vacated, after all the delay from Neil blocking me all i had was 10 min of work. Josh waived all fees, and apologized for the incompetent judgmental irrational behaviour Neil and Todd. Ive put this complaint to the BBB, in Hopes they learn a lesson in humanity. I will never conduct business with this company, due to their poor choice in employees. Thanks to Josh they didnt have a lawsuit on their hands for defamation of character, and violating my civil rights. Acknowledge josh as your saving grace and being the reason you get 1 star. Fire Neil and Todd for their poor customer service, spiteful ways, outdated control issues instead of having compassion and seeing reality. They discrimnated at its gross highest level. Im still appaulled at his behaviour. Josh should be their boss, they would do well to learn a lesson in humility and kindness from him.

No one was there to inspect and they charged because they require an inspection then when someone used my space without my knowledge they claimed i left furniture in here even though i moved across country and only ever had my motorcycle in the unit. No furniture. They attempted to charge me whatever they sold it auction for. Not to mention there was a man living in his unit across from mine everytime i went there and no one did anything about it. Poor communication between office personel. Never in the office when i went there. Billing system not convenient.

Comment: Weve been there for 4+ years now. Have changed lockers (downsizing to smaller locker) 3 times now. Every time they found a locker close by which made the move easier. Theyre always available and have been helpful when we had a question or needed something. Have dealt with Alicia who is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They are convenient for us and the gate hours are fine. The only negative is that on Sunday the office is closed, which is OK, but the bathroom is locked. It would be nice to have that available instead of having to run to the nearest fast food restaurant if we are spending a lot of time there on a Sunday. But overall 5 stars!

Comment: I want to put 5 stars, because my family has been using this storage for many years now. My moms had her same one since forever now. My grandma opened a garage size one for a few months, not too long ago. Had no issue with leaving when she wanted to. Which made me want to get one, but a smaller size. They have a few basic different unit sizes and the prices seem fair. The people that work here are super nice and try their best to meet all expectations and requests (for example; if you want one right in front vs one all they way in the back or a corner vs the middle. Drive ups vs hallways.) And now to my point.. the ONLY reason Im putting 4 is because its an outdoor storage, and a great amount of them are, but this one has NO shade. Im lucky if I dont get a burnt shade darker after coming here. I dont expect this to change. Theres not many things they can do, that I can think of anyway. Overall summery rating = 4.5 😁

Comment: We just closed out our storage unit here that we had since 2009. What a great experience, its conveniently near our home so I was able to go over and back in 15 minutes when needed. The staff was great throughout the process and repeatedly thanked us for our business once we informed them we no longer needed the space.I also wanted to mention Chip, who was working in the office today when I checked out. He appeared to be working the office alone even though Saturdays can be busy. He was helping a young couple rent their unit but he acknowledged me very politely and apologized for the wait as he helped them do their paperwork. I had plenty to do on my phone but I watched his amazing customer service skills as he made what can be a dull process actually enjoyable for them! When it was my turn he gave me 100% of his focus and we had an enjoyable conversation as I closed the account. He genuinely took interest in how our move was going and wished us a safe journey when we move. His politeness and the energy he puts into his customer service is amazing!This facility is convenient, reasonable and very clean. In 8 years weve never had any issues or trouble. I highly recommend this facility and probably other Extra Space Storage centers, but if youre lucky youll get Chip as your sales associate and youll thoroughly enjoy the process!

I did not know what size I would need but the manager on duty was kind enough to help me out. He started by asking me questions about what I was going to store here. I told him everything that I had and he had an idea but instead of just telling me what storage to get, he took me to them on his lot. He showed me a 5 X 10 which was a little to small then he took me to a 10 X 10. He even showed me a great way to store my stuff once I got it here.After that we went back and he started talking to me about pricing and safety of the lot. Then offered me some boxes and packaging supplies. After all was said and done, he got me in and out of there within 35 minutes. I got to say it is much better storage facilities then my last place. It is friendlier service, cleaner and safer.

The moment I called I was treated with a friendly helpful lady, accessing my storage needs and find space for me that is close convenient and affordable. Ill have to say with as much as I move around and have things from multiple states, my associate Amber Thompson went over and beyond to help me have everything I needed to store a motorcycle, the best part is that I didnt even have to ask, its as if she is one step ahead in the game and helping you down a wonderful head ache free path to carefree storage. The security is great, the service is extraordinary, and FYI this is the first review I have ever left. I was simply blown away with my experience. Upon coming in to the actual storage office location Robert again was my front counter help and was greeted immediately. The site to book the storage needs some work but everything else was professional and easy to work through. Manager onsite was at his professional best.
