Comment: My lawn care person’s equipment was stolen from this facility. The staff told him it happened at 11am in broad daylight. Same exact thing happened to his cousin a year before. My person said that he lost $7000 worth of equipment and that last year his cousin lost almost $40,000 worth of equipment. Do not store your belongings here this business does not care about your items.

I even saw someone riding around on a cart before I parked that saw me park out front. Im not sure where they went. I waited 5min outside office door. My phone was dead so I went into the front office for help and the guy helping me was so quick, friendly, and efficient! He escorted us all the way to our unit and even let our movers catch a ride on the golf cart. The process could not have been more seamless, very much needed on an otherwise stressful moving day!!!

After following her advice and going to the website to take care of matters myself, I was still just a little confused. I met her in person and she helped, not only transfer my unit to another, but make sure I didn’t waste any money on have 2 units at the same time. Which is what I didn’t want. While tending to my questions and concerns, she took the time to drive me to each unit so I could pick out the available ones that fit my liking and needs. (Didn’t take long at all) About 2 customers called during our encounter (mind you, she was all by herself) and she was very calm and honest with them: she let them know she was taking care of a customer (me) and she would get back to them. One of the issues she was able to solve while I still with her. Debora went above & beyond. Awesome job.

Comment: There was a cockroach in my unit that I noticed when moving out, and now there are cockroaches in my new place that have hitched a ride, so I have to deal with pest control. Kinda a huge deal for a storage place. Also, without any warning, they increased my rate by $90 from $130 to $220. They reduced the increase to $170 after I called about it after 3 months when I noticed the charges, but thats really poor business practice in general. I would NOT recommend this location to ANYONE.

Comment: Very good storage facility that is fairly tech forward and user friendly. A convenient Extra Space Storage app allows you to see your account details online/thru cell phone. And if you have a unit in the newer multi story building way at the back you have convenient in and out one touch access thru gates and the sliding door of the building - if you have a unit inside.Great customer service at Lawrence station.Was recently helped by staff person Jeremy to carry out a transfer from a smaller space to a larger unit. He was very friendly as well as professional. I’ve found this to be the case with all of ESS staff at this location over the years - I’ve had storage here on separate occasions for nearly two decadesIt’s a bit of a drive to get to the newer units at the far end of the facility - a little less than a half mile.If your unit is inside multi story building and you have a lot of stuff that requires multiple in and outs to unload your vehicle you might consider the outside or non blue tooth storage spaces first.Prices on units here have seemed to go up at least every other year. Not too surprisinggiven its Silicon Valley and the cost of living.You’d be surprised how much you can pack in the smaller units if you stack wisely or use cheap shelves

Comment: Extra Space operates on a business model of offering low rates upfront, then raising them as soon as they know it would be inconvenient for you to vacate the storage space. They used to wait 5-6 months before a first increase, but now they wait only a few months - I rented in mid-May and they doubled it in July. Not only did they double the rent, the new cost is higher than any published rate they currently have (including walk-ins) - so its not a market-adjustment its a we know its easier for you to pay double or triple what we promised than to vacate adjustment. By law theyre supposed to notify you in writing 30 days in advance, but Ive never received a notice in the mail for any storage unit Ive rented from them - and I have to ask why they wouldnt email as well? That would be very simple for them to set up in their system; it seems they dont want you to know its increasing - probably especially if youre on auto-pay, and maybe also because its impossible for the customer to prove a notice in the snail mail was never sent...?If you really need a storage unit, dont be mislead by their teaser rates. Take the rate theyre allegedly offering, multiply by 2.5 (at least) to account for the increases, and multiply for the year, because realistically once youve moved your stuff to their unit, you will put off completing the move for so long youll probably forget what you have in storage anyway. So if they offer $100/month, figure $250 x 12 (later increases are typically higher so average 2.5x) and plan for the $100/mo storage unit to cost you about $3000 by the end of the year, *plus* the cost of moving your stuff twice (into and out of the unit), plus the cost of either going to and from your unit, or worse, replacing items that you actually need because theyre too far away to access, the time youll lose, and then decide whether it really makes sense to use a storage unit.If you do absolutely need a storage unit, be sure to get a price commitment - in writing, on your contract - for x number of months from the manager.

Comment: **Updated- SCAM ALERT - Monthly rate went up from $88 to $168 without any written notice 30 days prior the due date. Only an payment reminder email 5 days before the due date which didnt give me enough time required to terminate the contract (within 10 days upon receiving the notice before the effective day) according to the Agreement. DISHONEST- Contact them to see if this ridiculous 90% raise was a mistake when I was about to pay 2 days prior the due date especially they still have promotion going on with only $68/mo for a better unit. The lady who answered said will let me know the next day after her negotiation attempt but never heard back. Called them back the day after and the same lady said was only able to lower the rate to $149 but I had to pay $168 for this coming month since I didnt contact them before the due date. She refused to listen and admit her mistake when I tried to correct her about the due date which clearly printed on the Agreement. Then I said I will move out and asked her if I could come the next day to clear my storage since it was almost 5:00 pm and I knew they will disable my access. But she again said I have to pay first since it is past due (which is absolutely incorrect) and threatening me they will have to auction my properties if my bill wasnt paid. Very sketchy on how they run the business...BE AWARE!! Also, suspect they lied about the size of my rental 5x10 but found this tag (attach pic) on the unit the first day.

I could tell from the first moment - the office (and entire facility) is immaculately clean, well organized, well stocked, and the staff was extremely professional, helpful, and friendly. Mark is fantastic, and he runs this place so well. I have used other facilities in the past, and I always dreaded having to visit or trying to reach someone in the office. At Extra Space, Ive always been able to reach someone in the office quickly - both on the phone and in person.- and Ive enjoyed visiting because they make it such a nice experience. All of the staff is friendly and helpful, and I love how clean, safe (cameras everywhere), and high-tech it is. We used their online app to enter and leave with the electric gate, and we used it for accessing our storage unit. Its great to not worry about what you did with the keys or what the entry code is - just use the app. I highly recommend Extra Space Storage in Sunnyvale!

Comment: I had posted just a rating of 3 stars (its OK), but the canned response from the owner asking how they could earn 5 stars prompted me to add a review. I expect others have a better experience with this property and that my troubles are relatively isolated. All things considered, I think my experience is worth sharing.After moving in, my rent went up sharply. This seems to be the nature of the business, so I dont know how much I can really complain about it.However, at one point, construction at the property required a new trench to be dug. In front of my unit, they excavated more for an underground vault box. This caused asphalt dust and debris to be blown into my unit with enough pressure that it covered everything, even at the back, 30 feet from the door.All of my stuff was now filthy and sticky (and essentially inaccessible). Because Extra Space was responsible for causing the mess, I wanted it to clean it. The on-site manager told me I was on my own to find a company to clean it, and offered a months rent, which was a fraction of what it would cost to clean this mess. I like the on-site staff, but this showed me that they have limited authority to resolve problems, and not of this magnitude.I got to try to resolve this with a regional manager. At first, he didnt even acknowledge his liability. Extra Space Storage finally got my stuff cleaned by the end of 2020. At this point, I dont even remember how many months or years it took, but my stuff was essentially inaccessible until then; the regional manager really ignored this part.If you want a higher opinion from me, how about refunding my rent for the time my stuff was held hostage under your sticky mess?

I have received excellent customer service from day one.They use some pretty cool technology that allows you to enter your unit with your phone (via their app), or you can opt for a traditional lock.The facility is fenced in which I love. I feel comfortable leaving my vehicle unlocked while I run up and do multiple trips to the unit.

Comment: This is the only place I’ve ever had to store any of my belongings so I didn’t have any expectations but everyone I interacted with was so friendly! They are super helpful in answering questions over the phone, and when I came to get checked in, Liz was so friendly and cheerful and made the whole process so easy. Comment: When booking my unit, I assumed reserving online meant that it would lock in my rate (not that it was my unit or that I owned it) and that when I came in the next day to view the unit that price would stand. Well the next day (less than 24 hrs from reserving it) I went in and the price for the unit jumped almost $20 for each month and I was not having it!However the associates they helped me come to resolution and was able to get my unit to the price I saw before. I do appreciate their help and understanding my situation, Im already moving because of covid and a simple transaction almost went left because the system decided to raise the rate.I do not blame the associates for this nor the store, but Extra space storage tried to pull a wool over me and I didnt like that. Luckily the store was able to rectify the situation.All in all, go to the store and book the unit after seeing at a certain price:) . Everything else was smooth after that.

Comment: Extra Space Storage is exactly what I would want from a storage unit in the bay. Spacious units with low prices and a friendly team. It took me less than a half hour to get the unit, lock, code, and be ready to move my stuff in. The hours are reasonable and coverage is straightforward. Only bummer is its right behind Costco but I wont be visiting the unit often so I wont have to deal with that traffic.

Comment: I moved here from San Diego this month and came across Extra Space Storage. When I called to check prices I spoke with Liz. She went into detail about size and pricing to ensure I got the right one. Upon arrival at Extra Space in Sunnyvale Liz greeted me and gave me the tour and showed me the unit I requested. The unit I originally wanted was smaller than what I needed (as she suspected). We then proceeded to another unit on (the golf cart). I was very happy and impressed with her navigation and safe driving skills of the golf cart. Liz then showed me the unit that I needed and it was a PERFECT match. We proceeded back to the office to fill out paperwork. Liz explained the details of each document to ensure that I understood what I was signing. The whole process went smoothly thanks to Liz. I have no idea who this Mark guy is that everyone keeps talking about. But Liz made made time to make sure that I was 100% informed,my business was valued, and that all of my concerns were answered. JOSH made whole experience a walk in the park!!!My husband and I are moving while I am 35-36 weeks pregnant (woof..). All the (cheaper) mom and pop self storage facilities we had visited last week were in bad neighborhoods.. and I was worried going with a bigger company like extra space. After I put stubbornness aside, I made a visit to extra space on Lawrence thinking I wasn’t going to get what we were looking for, or it would be too expensive.I didn’t want to feel pressured into renting like oh there’s only ONE more.. but it was a good experience off the bat! Josh welcomed me outside the door and opened it for my big pregnant self. He explained to me the differences in unit size, brand new Bluetooth capabilities, and pricing options, without making me feel overwhelmed, but instead, very taken care of. It’s hard to find good customer service these days!I figure he had worked there for years because of his knowledge of the facility but no!!! He was only a month in!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Would make the drive over here to store again!!!

The units are kept clean & in good condition & the manager(Mark) is one of the friendliest, helpful, attentive & best facility managers I have seen in my many years of renting storage units! The prices at this location are pretty reasonable & the property is pretty big with enough room to move around in.The only negative I can list here is the train tracks are right behind it & them damn trains are freaking loud when they zip past there! & the restroom is a quarter of a mile away if your storage space is all the way to the back of the facility!

I made a call to the manager; he knew about my case; invited me to the storage site. Today, when I walked into the office and introduced myself, I was greeted very nicely. Comment: The staff is always friendly and the facility is very well maintained. They even cut the locks for free for me when i lost the keys. I took a star off because my rent was raised twice in less than a year by a total of about 25%. I dont know if that has to do with the market rates but its certainly not ideal as it makes it hard to plan financially. If they want to raise the rent they should at least do it once a year otherwise its just going to annoy customers. I also suspect theres storage price fixing going on in Silicon Valley. Also their advertised web rate was lower than mine..

Mark helped to locate that unit and cleared out their boxes of supplies for me to move in in time. Their truck for a one time move in usage was free and it saved my time moving in an efficient manner as it was a good size truck, not a van. Storage unit was clean and tidy. Security on premise is great, with entry and exit passcode requirements. Excellent overall!
