This is a great gym, and probably the best one Ive found over the years if youre looking to learn crossfit style training but may be intimidated (dont be) - or if youre looking to train in a continuous way that avoids burnout or overuse. The coaches are great, the members are supportive, and youre encouraged to do what works for you within the scope of the workout (this isnt always done so well at some crossfit gyms).I hadnt stepped into a Crossfit gym for about 8 years for a few reasons and it was only this particular gyms approach that got me back in, especially after getting sick of training on my own during the pandemic and before. Glad theyre here.
Absolutely loved going to FIT2LIVE! Friendly people and amazing coaches. You can tell that the coaches care about your health and fitness. Only reason why we left the gym was because we were moving out of state. Learned so much and really wish we could have stayed with the gym longer.
I have been working out at Joust for 4 years. It truly has been the best 4 years of fitness and community I’ve ever experienced. The coaches and fellow Jousters are like my extended family. It truly is a community of excellent people who work hard and have fun! I can’t say enough about how professional, instructional and life changing Joust is. Thank you Ryan, the coaches and my fellow Jousters for creating one of my favorite happy places!!!
Great place to work out, excellent coaching, very in tune to your goals, always assisting in modification and safety first. A wonderful supportive atmosphere and very encouraging and inclusive to all skill levels and fitness. I love coming to class for the variety of workouts, and community encouraged by the leadership of the gym to help each person be healthier, stronger and achieve any personal goals. I can’t say enough good things about Fit2Live, and am so fortunate to be part of this amazing gym and the people that coach here( more than fitness, nutrition counseling too!) and the people who work out here!
The Fit2Live community is so warm and welcoming and they do all they can to make workouts intense, satisfying, and as safe as possible with goal to achieve fitness for life. Not a passing fad or phase, but actual fitness that can help you pick up your kids, get up off the floor with ease, or find success in the sport & lifestyle of your choosing.Fit2Live is a really unique gym in that everyone Ive met there has different goals, but all our goals are well met by staff with a focus on good form & mobility (mobility training at a Crossfit gym? Yeah I was floored too!) I joined as an aerialist & dancer, looking to take my upper body fitness to the next level. Fit2Live has exceeded my expectations regarding arm strength growth! I never thought I could climb a rope as a 35-year-old mom, but here I am, doing it!During my time here I have meet people of all types - busy moms & dads, distance runners, older folks, younger students, and body types of all kinds. We all have different athletic backgrounds (and some NO athletic background when they begin) but everyone has found a place where they can scale workouts and become the very best they can be.Its repeated over and over again - Scaling is not a crime and Leave your ego at the door and these mantras are what makes Fit2Live so welcoming to all, regardless of your body type or where you are coming from in regards to fitness. Im so happy I found this gym - it has allowed me to move forward in my own athletic art form.
I was in Ann Arbor a few days and I had the chance to do a drop-in class at Fit2Live. Both the coaching team and members immediately made me feel welcome and included in the community. The program was well-organized and focuses on achieving personnal goals and PRs.Brandon was our coach for the day. He watched carefully to make sure we were performing each of the movements correctly and offered me tips to improve my hang power clean.I will definitely come again when I am back in Ann Arbor, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in fitness or sport in general, as well as to people who would like to start a physical activity: you will be in good hands! Thanks a lot for the good energy and for your expertise!
Fit2Live is the best gym in Ann Arbor. The best thing about Fit2Live is the Coaches, the Community and the Culture. I have never done CrossFit before this, and it was really intimidating for me when I decided to pursue it. The first session with the Coach Ryan was amazing and he made me believe that I can do this and over the time I will get better at it. 3 months down the line I am more confident, and I love CrossFit. Major shout out to all the Coaches. Coach Ryan, Brandon, Sharon, Rob, EJ and all the other coaches they genuinely care about everyone’s fitness journey here.I have never been this motivated to go to the gym and now Fit2Live has become very crucial part of my life. I am really seeing a lot of change in myself in 3 months, and I am looking forward to achieving much more. This has become possible because of kind of support, push, motivation and care I am getting from all the coaches here. In past, I had several challenges like wrist pain, and I wrote an email to Coach Brandon about it. The next day he came personally to follow up with me and gave me all important advice that really helped me to overcome the wrist pain. Similarly, I have discussed my workout fatigue challenge with Coach Sharon and immediately she gave me a great tips and advice to break that shell. She always follows up with me to check my progress and improvement. During workout session, she makes sure I am doing the workouts with the right techniques. The above is some of the anecdotes from my personal experience to share the attention that I get from the coaches which really motivates me.Another great thing about Fit2Live is the Coach Ryan’s and Coach EJ’s newsletters on fitness and nutrition. Those newsletters and webinar have been helpful to me. As I mentioned, this gym has a great culture and that makes it very different from the other gym that I have been to. And my peers here with whom I work out they are very nice and amazing which makes the daily WOD even more fun. Kudos to Fit2Live!!
Ive been to/been a member of various CrossFit box/gyms across the country over the last 8 years, so I feel confident sharing that Fit2Live (fka Joust) is one of the best - both from a CrossFit perspective but also just for a dang good work out.I came back to CrossFit after my work schedule freed up & I realized I was losing too much strength just going to OTF for the last 3 years.I was very very choosy as previous boxes/gyms that left me physically injured as well as just mentally burn out.Two things that stand out to me about F2L that make me feel like I can make some sustainable gainz & fixing some old bad habits:*the community: everyone is SO welcoming & friendly. Shout out to the 6amers! There are definitely folks that are VERY fit but it never feels hyper competitive.*programming: I appreciate the 6 week strength & skill focus areas. It makes me feel super clear on what Im working on/towards. This is a contrast to things Ive seen like stupid WODs for volumes sake and I absolutely HATE those. Im not saying its not intense or there isnt volume because youll absolutely get in a workout, but youll feel good about it and not be injured! I also appreciate that the coaches ALWAYS review scaling opportunities. Aint no shame in the scaling game.I also like the mix of weightlifting/barbell classes as well as gymnastics and endurance classes if you want to get a good mix of different stimuli!Their class sizes seem pretty consistently large so I liked doing the foundations series first! Can you believe that this was my FIRST time in a foundations class ever?! It was a great time to take a beat, check my form.
I have been a Fit2Live (formerly known as Joust) member since 2008 and cannot speak highly enough of this fitness community. I began at Fit2Live as an 8th grader with the intention of becoming a college athlete and was looking for training that could elevate my game. Through versatile and functional programming, the coaches at Joust/Fit2Live helped me improve my athleticism and attain my goal of playing Division I softball. Since hanging up my cleats, Joust/Fit2Live has provided me with a space to create new goals dedicated to my fitness amid a supportive community that celebrates all members health journeys. I am beyond grateful to be a part of this fitness family and encourage you to join in the fun, camaraderie, and dedication to overall healthy living! 5/5 stars always!
This place is awesome! Super welcoming and adaptable to your needs. I started off here as someone with zero experience and a knee injury, and it was a completely judgement free / modification rich environment. Cannot recommend this gym enough :) P.S. two months later and my knee injury doesnt exist anymore after working the right muscles. Woohoo!
Joust is awesome! I started attending in Fall 2020. This is my first experience with Crossfit, so I had a lot to learn. The coaches and community are all so welcoming and supportive! I was pretty active before joining Joust, but I have gotten much stronger and increased my endurance. I feel safe coming to Joust indoors because the health & cleaning protocols are practiced consistently and communicated clearly.
Coming out of the pandemic I was out of shape physically and mentally. Im also hard of hearing and noisy environments with masks? I was not excited, but knew I needed to get back and take care of myself. Started out with PT with Ryan who was AMAZING, flexible with programming, knowledgable and responsive. The real magic was moving into class and having every single trainer also help me adjust with the hearing, and patience and encouragement finding my way back to regular workouts. Ive been places where I loved one, maybe two trainers, but Ive never experienced a place where every single person is on point. The trainers and regulars have all been there some number of years, which speaks to the great, consistent environment. And all that caring does not mean they wont totally kick your butt. The programming is awesome. Already hit a PR. High recommend!
I love Joust! I moved from out of state and finally found a gym I liked that has a great price and great coaches. Worth every penny and then some. They have worked really hard to make sure covid precautions have been followed for the community, and we still manage to have a lot of laughs. The coaches are excellent at helping all kinds of skill sets and abilities. This gym has helped me keep my head on straight these last few crazy months! Highly recommend
As someone who has been to many different gyms in the state, the country, and outside of the country, theres no place like Joust! The coaches are professional, have an excellent eye for good form (which is important in the sport of Crossfit), and personable. They really make you feel like youre at home! No matter where I go, the workouts arent the same as Joust and they program them with goals in place to prevent you from getting hurt and to help you become the best version of yourself! If youre going to invest your time and money into yourself, this is the place to go! Whether youre a beginner or a seasoned athlete, they will help you get to your goals and youll even find random goals for yourself you didnt think you needed to develop.
There are community gyms but this gym is a community.I joined Joust in 2009 and its been a staple in my life and my families life ever since. The coaching team wants a great experience for you in every class and will help you reach your goals. The gym gives you opportunities to improve in any fitness domain (strength, power, stamina, flexibility/mobility, you name it!) And whatever your goals are, youre sure to find a friend at Joust.
I have been a member of joust for a couple of years. Previous to Joust I attended a big box gym and after a few months there I lost motivation to keep working out as it was monotonous....I felt that I needed something more engaging. Enter Joust and I was hooked from the very first workout. Joust offers everything I need....amazing workouts, great atmosphere, excellent coaches, and an extraordinary community that I can call family. I can confidently say that without Joust my life would not be as good and enjoyable as it is now. The conditioning Ive received through Joust paved the way for me to enjoy other activities such as backpacking and biking, and hopefully more! Whenever I have a bad day at work, or in general, I know that going to Joust at the end of the day will make me feel better. I am in the best shape of my life not only physically, but mentally as well. Thank you Joust!
I was uncertain about the time and financial commitment of belonging to a gym, and being an older woman, I was hesitant, to say the least, about gym atmosphere. So, it was a big hurdle for me to try a gym. My son recommended Fit 2 Live, and because his kindness meter is unfailing, I ventured in. The first thing I noticed as I crossed the threshold was the welcome mat, which reads, Check Your Ego at the Door. This and my initial conversation with owner Ryan, was very encouraging, and put me at ease immediately. My first workout class was not intimidating, because there are people of many skill levels, and the coaches are attentive, and scale any move you cant do ( yet!) to something challenging but doable. It felt great. A friend advised me to go three times a week for a month before deciding if I like it. This was very good advice, which I commend to anyone beginning a fitness regimen. I was hooked, especially because the whole community of members is so supportive, which makes it one of the most motivating aspects of Fit 2 Live. For example, there is an icebreaker at the beginning of each workout, where everyone says their name, and answers the same question, such as, what was your favorite vacation?, which created a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. There are special events several times a year which are well attended and fun. And I am constantly seeing progress in my fitness, and ability to scale up movements, amount of weight, etc. Last year because of the pandemic, Fit 2 Live adapted, posting home workouts, holding classes in the parking lot, and re opening with ten foot distances between gym goers. Some of my friends set up home gyms and did not return to the gyms they were formerly members of. I think this is a huge mistake, because they are missing the key advantages of belonging to a gym, and the critical components of fitness - expert coaching that makes sure that, first - you dont get hurt, but are challenged, and especially the design of each workout that varies from day to day with overall fitness goals in mind, and as importantly, the fellowship and support of fellow gym goers. Lastly, I respect Fit 2 Live for not letting members confuse gym attendance with weight loss. There is a great nutrition program for overall health and weight loss that is an optional companion piece to the fitness program.
The coaches at Joust are amazing and accommodating for every level of fitness when you start out. They kick your butt, but make sure you stay safe doing it. Joining Joust was easily the best decision Ive made compared to various gyms Ive been a part of. It is a really great community, and everyone is so supportive and happy to be there. There are so many times for classes available and with the people you get to work with it is well worth the membership.
Joust is more than a gym. Its an amazing supportive community. After 2 years at joust (more than Ive ever lasted in any other gym), Im in the best shape of my life. We love the coaches and all the members who make you come back day after day. We have also visited other crossfit boxes and none have been as welcoming as Joust. Best gym ever!
By far and away the best fitness experience you can find!! Joust breaks the mold and some of the stigmas out there regarding CrossFit. Anyone, any age, any ability level can come to Joust and feel welcome in their efforts to achieve their fitness goals. The coaches challenge you but also give options for modifications to each workout and specific exercise if necessary. This allows everyone to experience their own level of success and gives you the confidence that you can indeed do it. Give the Joust team a try if you have a chance, you wont regret your decision!!
Best Cross Fit gym for ALL fitness levels. Ive been obese all of my life and I really enjoy the programming and coaching at Joust. The programming is effective. It not only helps building muscles (hence improve body shapes) but also improves immune systems and cognitive ability. I really do feel the drop in my daily energy level after I stopped consistent working-out at Joust due to the pandemic (another piece of evidence for causal relationship). I hope I can get back to the gym soon.
Came in from out of town and just popped in. Ryan was Awesome! He greeted me promptly let me know the lay of the land was very instrumental to make sure I went Along with the class (Since I had never been there before) When I come back to Ann Arbor Joust will definitely be on the list of stops!
Joust is a great gym with coaches who want you to succeed. Ryan, Rob, EJ, and the rest of the coaches are all great at breaking apart technical movements in a way that is easy to understand. I would recommend Joust if you are looking for a gym to increase your fitness and have fun while doing so.
Been a member of the Joust family for almost 2 years. Felt welcome since day 1. Great staff, the best equipment, awesome facilities. The coaches always make sure youre challenging yourself while maintaining good form/technique. LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR and come join the Joust family!
I’ve been a member for a little more than a year and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. It’s amazing going in and seeing people in all different levels of fitness challenging themselves. The staff is excellent. They are extremely helpful and kind. They know a ton about CrossFit, general fitness, healthy living, injury prevention, sports injury treatment, and much more.My shoulder (previously injured) has never felt stronger thanks to Ryan and his team assisting with strength and mobility work. I overall feel much more agile, strong and fit. Go in and you won’t be let down, just a little sore!
Joust is an amazing Gym and a great value! Everyone who works out at Joust is supportive and fun to be around. As someone who has never been big into weight lifting, I enjoyed the mental challenge of learning the correct way to perform Olympic movements. The coaches are top tier and take the time to teach all levels of athletes from very beginner to elite. The workouts are well balanced and challenging ranging from strength training to aerobic fitness. I have never left Joust feeling that I did not get something out of the workout in terms of both personal coaching and increased fitness level. Thanks to Ryan and all the coaches at Joust!
I did a couple of drop-in classes here while I was in town visiting friends. The coach was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. All of the athletes were very friendly and welcoming. There was plenty of equipment, which was in great condition. I highly recommend this gym!
I started at Joust at a time in my life where I felt really unhappy, unfit and was really nervous about going to any kind of gym. Immediately the coaches made me feel really comfortable and I learned so much and never felt more motivated! Along with great coaches the members of Joust are so welcoming, supportive and fun to be around! Working out use to feel like a chore but with Joust I always looked forward to going and once there you’re surrounded by people who motivate you and push you to do you best.
Being a software engineer by profession my lifestyle was very sedentary. This ruined my digestion over time badly and made me go on a very restricted diet. Any carelessness in my diet would lead to severe inflammation which wouldn’t go away for days even with medication. Thanks to fit2live that I’m back to normal, Within a month I felt healthy. No restrictions! No medication! :) CrossFit has been a life changing experience for me. Thanks to all the coaches at fit2live.
I found 3 great things here,Great communityGreat commitmentGreat coaches.Jousters are by definition head on about getting better and stronger and joust fitness makes sure that It happens in the safest and most scientific way.Changed my view of exercising,Now its more about being functionally efficient and strong, and not just lifting and torturing myself.I feel part of a community that is very compassionate, competitive, enduring and positive.Cheers to the coaches for making the workouts safely available in the pandemic.
If you had told me I was going to join a gym and make it a daily part of my routine for the last five years, I would have thought you were nuts. But thats the place I am at. I have been in the best shape of my life consistently throughout that entire period thanks to Joust.Joust is a safe place; its a supportive community where we are all helping each other do better at fitness and health. The environment is not competitive. We, as a community, are focused on bettering ourselves instead of beating everyone else. Its that community and sense of belonging that keeps me attending every day.I doubt you will find a more experienced coaching staff around town. Many of the coaching staff at Joust have 5 to 10 years of experience coaching or more, without moving around from gym to gym. The longevity of the coaching staff speaks volumes to the sense of community and belonging that Joust provides.I cannot recommend the place strongly enough. It has become a core of my sense of belonging and happiness.
Joust is an amazing gym and an excellent community. Participants have diverse ages, backgrounds, and ability levels. The Joust staff is committed to making sure every participant gets something out of the workout, and tailors the workouts to each persons individual needs. Their dedication to good technique is amazing. Highly recommend!
I am a long time member of the amazing Joust community and I love it. It is a great environment for all levels of CrossFitters, form beginner to well seasoned, I have been both! The coaches are knowledgeable and make sure movements are done properly and make an obvious effort to see that everyone is working to their skill level. The atmosphere is encouraging and everyone is super friendly, there is a great community feel.Joust is a very nice, well maintained facility, with ample equipment to support all classes. Bathrooms and showers (yes showers) are clean and well maintained. If you live in or ever visit Ann Arbor, you should definitely stop by Joust for a great workout.
From the moment I walked in the door, Joust has been an amazing place to workout. Ill admit, I was a bit nervous at first, but the trainers and community there helped me ease into and feel comfortable with the tough workouts. Everyone is very encouraging and pushes each other to be the best athletes. The trainers do an amazing job aiding in the process, focusing on areas to improve, and overall are a great staff to work with. Three years later, 40 pounds less, and amazing friends gained, I couldnt ask for a better place for fitness in Ann Arbor.
I started Crossfit at Joust about a year ago after hearing glowing recommendations from a couple of other members of the gym. I was looking for challenging programming, fun new athletic challenges and a community of dedicated but goofy folks to work out with. Joust has all of the above in spades. I cant imagine finding another gym quite like it. The staff and member community has somehow perfectly struck the balance between intentionally pushing each other to improve every workout, while also keeping a down to earth integrity. Im sad to be moving out of Ann Arbor, thus leaving the gym and if I come back to visit, I will certainly stop by to say hello to this wonderful group of people.
Fit2Live is the bright spot of my day that gives me an afterglow, which lasts just long enough to make me crave the next workout. :)I feel as though I can push myself in a safe and structurally sound way here. I’m new here, but ever since joining I’ve felt happier, stronger, and more mobile. The coaches are high-caliber people who empower and foster an incredible community. The atmosphere is fun, friendly, and welcoming. There’s a wealth of knowledge that feeds into the programming, which is thoughtfully designed. This is more than an exceptional gym with clean, modern facilities; it’s a safe place for people to test their limits, meet incredible people, and have a blast!
I have been a member at Joust for the past two years while attending UM. The coaching staff and community are absolutely wonderful and welcoming. The gym is bright and clean and the effort they put into maintaining the excellent equipment they have is outstanding. The programming is very balanced- members focus on 6 week strength/skill goals and weeks are designed to encourage sustainable fitness. Thank you to everyone for helping me maintain my fitness while in school. Im going to miss everyone here tremendously.
Ive never enjoyed a gym or a community more than I enjoyed Joust. The owner, Ryan, is one of the most genuinely friendly people Ive ever met with a knack for building a great culture. The coaches do an incredible job making sure every workout is both appropriate and challenging for you. Their goal is to make Joust the best hour of your day. Unless you go 2 or more times in a day, like me.
Great box! I recently attended a couple of the morning classes while dropping in from out of town. The coaching was excellent and the gym did a great job of being COVID-19 friendly. I particularly enjoyed the barbell focused class - as someone who has been Olympic Weightlifting for quite a while, its rare to hear a coach give a new, and useful, cue. Rob was very knowledgeable and able to pick out small tweaks to help me.
Great gym to drop in at or join. I was passing through on a road trip and reached out to see about dropping in on a class one morning. They responded to my email very quickly and then the reservation process for my drop-in was extremely easy. At the class the coach was very knowledgeable about the movements we did and the other members were incredibly friendly and made me feel very welcome.
I started out at Joust in September 2015 after 4 years of mostly dormant lifestyle looking to get fitter. In this time, I have gotten into the best shape and fitness of my life. Joust has great coaches with well rounded background in Crossfit (duh!), Gymnastics, Olympic Weightlifting and general nutrition. The best part of this gym is the community. Collectively known as the Jousters, they come from all kinds of diverse backgrounds, bring great vibes and support each other regardless of where they are in their fitness journey.I highly recommend it!
I decided to drop-in to a free class at Joust and instantly loved this place. The trainers are kind, friendly, and know their stuff. They look at each person in a group workout individually - scaling the workout if necessary and pushing you so that you are almost always sore but never done so at the expense of form. Further, the fellow gym members at Joust are phenomenal, smart, people at all different fitness levels who are beyond supportive. As a woman who is almost always trying to lose just more 5 lbs, it was so nice joining a place where my focus was completely redirected to learning new skills and getting stronger. I have only been a member for 6 months and am bummed that I am moving states (i.e., leaving Joust), but if you are thinking about joining, I cant recommend this place enough!
Joust Strength + Fitness Ann Arbor undoubtedly the best CrosstFit place in town. I have been with Joust for nearly 5 years now. In these years, Joust has helped me maintain a healthy life style making me stronger mentally and physically. A special shout out to the coaches who contribute to a strong community along with providing exceptionally good personal care by catering to every physicality. Its a great place to begin the cross fit training and continue the journey towards a fit lifestyle!
I originally joined the Joust community while in Graduate school from 2014-2015. I was the healthiest, fittest, strongest, and happiest I’d ever been. Life happened after I graduated and I stepped away from Joust. Since then I became the most unhealthy, heaviest, and unhappiest I’d ever been. I tried multiple fitness activities and gyms but nothing ever compared to Joust. I knew what I needed to do but had a tough time finding the motivation and courage to make the lifestyle change until one day I said “enough talking, I’m ready for change”. Joust provides me with the motivation, accountability, knowledge, and community to live a healthier life. Since rejoining Joust 5 months ago I’ve seen/felt tremendous results. I’ve lost 30 pounds, 5 inches in my waistline, and watched my strength increase in multiple areas of fitness (most proud: I went from being able to do 0 to 10 push-ups). I couldn’t have reached this success without the Joust community.
I have been training at Joust Strength and Fitness for over a year and half, and since my first day, I have always been impressed with the quality of training and the apparent results. The coaches are friendly, outgoing, and knowledgeable and always put safety first. I would recommend Joust to anyone looking to not only build a better better version themselves, but also to immerse themselves within a community of like-minded, wonderful and supportive people. The Joust group is made up of incredible athletes of all skill levels working towards very similar fitness goals. The accomplishments you experience in Crossfit will give you confidence you need to excel out of the gym, and Joust is the perfect vehicle to help you accomplish (and CRUSH) your goals.
During my brief time in Ann Arbor over the past couple of months, I was working out with the folks at Joust and all I can say is: Awesome! The coaches, the clients, the workouts, all of it. I was super pleased. Ive been crossfiting for a long time and been a part of many boxes along the way- so I feel comfortable to critique what I experienced. If you are looking to find a great community, look no further than Joust.
I was very skeptical about CrossFit but after trying it for a few days I loved it. The coaches are very good and they really care about your safety and fitness. I took my classes in the evenings with Ryan or Susy - they are great and I bet the other coaches are too! I made very good friends there and felt stronger than ever! Joust not only provides a space for exercising but its filled with great vibes and the opportunity to grow in many different ways. I absolutely recommend it!
In Michigan for business and dropped in at Joust for early crossfit class/ training and it was awesome!! Coach Sharon was awesome, even as a drop in she provided great tips in helping to improve and tweak my moves for maximum performance. The sign up process was easy and the owner Ryan was very responsive to email communication. I will mos definitely be back.
The trainers and community at Joust are top notch! When I was feeling stagnant with my workouts, Joust met me right where I was and took my fitness to the next level. Ryan and the other trainers are very good about encouraging to push yourself to meet your goals while being realistic and not overdoing it as I have heard can be the norm at other crossfit gyms. Form is demonstrated and emphasized every day. I saw major personal progress in a short time period and will definitely miss the Joust family now that I am no longer in Ann Arbor!
Everything about Joust is great! I was brand new to Crossfit when I joined Joust and it was a wonderful experience. Since I was brand new I started out with the Foundations Starter Program which consists of 3 private 60 minute sessions. These are well worth it as you get a lot of 1 on 1 attention to perfect your form as well as your first month of your membership is free after paying for the 3 lessons. The community is very welcoming and the coaches are incredible at accommodating everyone’s needs. One of my favorite things about Joust was the workout scheduling. Every 6 weeks the focus shifts to a new skill as well as each week has 2-3 strength focused workouts to start the week out and an active recovery workout on Thursdays after all the heavy lifting. I cannot say enough good things about Joust and I highly recommend it to anyone considering a Crossfit gym in Ann Arbor.
Great gym no matter your fitness level. I had been a member of a crossfit gym before but I found that Jousts relatively small class sizes, different class options, and personal attention were great. Also the programming is intelligently focused in 6 week cycles, which strikes the right balance between variation and progression. I would recommend to anyone in Ann Arbor.
How describe Joust? Simply AWESOME. I had the best month ever. If you want a crossfit place Joust is the one. Nice atmosphere, nice people and great trainings. The coaches are great, very professionals giving you the best training experience. I just have to say thank you for everyone and in special for Ryan. Besides being an excellent coach he is an excellent person. So, if someone is looking a crossfit, Joust is the one.
F-U-N! Best word to describe this amazing gym.I have been a member here for a year. The coaches are smart, educated, and kind people - patient as well, which is key. They will take the time to work with you and provide you with the best routine that works for you. Then there are the fellow Joust members - let me tell you, never a dull moment. Easy-going, lovable bunch that likes to work hard but make the time in the gym just fly by. Always a good laugh and stress reliever when I hang with this crowd. Good people.
Great Crossfit Affiliate! I often Visit Ann Arbor, and Joust has been my go-to drop in location for the past few years. Its great because the coaches are friendly and provide solid advice, the workouts are always challenging, and the members are welcoming. Additionally, there is a great deal of open gym time which is AWESOME. This has allowed me to keep consistent with my own gyms programming while Im in Ann Arbor for a day or two. Highly recommended!
Joust has helped me maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle over the last 2 years. All of the coaches are STELLAR and help you to scale movements to your ability if needed. What I really like about Joust is that they always emphasize safety and performing the movements correctly to avoid injury. I’ve never had a class where they didn’t go through all the movements first before starting the WOD. They are always really accommodating for those with injuries and finding an alternative movement that won’t exacerbate said injury. The community at Joust has always been very warm, friendly, and encouraging. I also really love the 1 hour format of WODs, but they have other types of classes to choose from like gymnastics and Olympic weightlifting.
I really dont have enough good things to say about Joust. If you are looking for a supportive environment in which to improve your fitness, look no further than Joust. Ryan and the rest of the coaching staff truly care about each person who walks in the door of their facility. I was continually impressed by how they would go out of their way to ensure that I was progressing toward my fitness goals in a safe and fun environment. I have become a more fit and confident person as a result of my time there. As I move to a new state, I can truly say that one of the things I will miss most about Ann Arbor is the Joust community.
I started at Joust after doing P90x and was looking for the next step. It certainly takes things to the next level.Joust is an incredible place. It is encouraging, positive, and challenging. The coaches patiently help new members achieve fitness goals and the community is great. They offer many class times so its always easy to find a time to go to the gym. (Its nice to be able to get a workout in during my lunch break.)
Joust is a truly amazing Crossfit box with some of the best coaches Ive had and a remarkable community. Ryan (owner) and his staff go above and beyond to make sure everyone is achieving their own personal fitness goals, which I found incredibly helpful while I was there. In the 18 months I was a member I saw improvements in every facet of my fitness - including nutrition, endurance, strength, and mobility. Its a gem in Ann Arbor and if youve ever thought about trying Crossfit or just want to get in better shape, Joust is the place to do it.
I dropped in at Joust on a whim one day. It was my first introduction to Crossfit and I was immediately hooked. The atmosphere is amazing. The coaches are top notch and awesome. The other athletes are welcoming and friendly. Its truly a place where you feel like youre part of a family.Sadly, I moved and had to quit. Ive tried a number of other Crossfit gyms and none even come close to what Joust offers. You will not be disappointed if you give Joust a shot. Its by far the best Ive found.
Joust has a great community and a team of dedicated and knowledgeable coaches that are focused on your fitness goals. They do an amazing job working with both advanced and beginner athletes. I highly recommend the endurance and gymnastics classes as great add-ons for athletes looking for a challenge.
Check out Joust If you want to get stronger and join a great community at the best CrossFit box in Ann Arbor. I have known Coach Ryan and the rest of the coaches since I started in 2014 when I was fairly new to CrossFit. During my four years they have helped me develop into a physically and mentally strong athlete. You can see the quality of the instruction with their coaching, movement standards, quality of WODs. When I first started I didn’t have much experience in a gym or weight lifting. Over my four years at Joust I have doubled all of my personal lifting records and learned all kinds of new skills like muscle ups, double unders, and handstand pushups. Additionally, I have had various injuries over the years, and the coaches will take their time to choose alternative movements to modify a work out for you!But the physical training is only half of the reason that I love Joust. You will find a great community of diverse CrossFitters who will quickly welcome you as part of the family from your first class. Joust has cool events where members hang out together, and sometimes will just go out for a beer after a WOD.Joust has been a second home for me during my four years of medical school in Ann Arbor. I am going to miss the amazing coaching and incredible people. I am very sad to be leaving, but I will stop by every time that I am back in Ann Arbor!
I joined Joust after participating in their “6 Week New You Challenge” over a year ago and I can easily say it was the best decision of my life. My daughter has even commented that I am much happier now that I’ve found Joust. I didn’t know what CrossFit was before I started and I was terribly out of shape, but I soon realized this was exactly what I needed to keep me motivated and help me improve my fitness and my life. The coaches are AMAZING, very knowledgeable, supportive, caring and they always add a little of their personality to class, which makes it more fun. They demonstrate proper technique, offer scaling options for every fitness level and walk around during class, correcting your form if needed, answering questions and offering encouragement. The WOD’s are challenging, no matter what level you are at, and the 6-week goal cycles add variety and allow you to improve your fitness in every aspect. I can honestly say that I don’t hate burpees anymore!!!The owner, Ryan McStockard, has created an incredible community environment and I’ve blessed to have befriended so many wonderful fellow Jousters. Everyone is very supportive, and we encourage and celebrate each other’s “wins.” In addition to daily classes, Ryan organizes different events for us to come together as a community (5k runs, pool parties, BBQ’s, etc.). This allows us to meet other Jousters and helps to solidify our community.Whether you’re in town for a short time or searching for a new place to workout, come to Joust and see for yourself. You won’t regret your decision.
Ive been doing CrossFit at Joust for 5 years. In those five years, I’ve never been bored with the workouts. The coaching staff makes the workouts both fun and challenging. They take ownership in my personnel development goals and help me to achieve those goals. Ive seen myself improve in strength, endurance and form. The atmosphere at Joust is very team oriented. My fellow classmates have always given me encouragement when I’m about to “give up” on a workout. That extra encouragement has helped me complete many workouts. When I joined Joust five years ago, I didn’t just join a CrossFit gym, I joined an extended family.
I have been at Joust Strength and Fitness since 2008 and can honestly say that is has always been made up of a diverse community that constantly challenges, supports, and motivates each other to reach new heights. The coaches are well versed and dedicated to helping all people, no matter the fitness/skill level, accomplish their goals in a way that maximizes their potential. This gym has exposed me to many wonderful people, and has pushed me to achieve a level of fitness I didnt know I could obtain beyond my previous experiences as an athlete- it has changed my life for the better!
Ive been at joust for two years and the coaches, members, and WODs always continue to impress and motivate me! My partner started at joust a month after I did and were both still happily satisfied and challenged with the thoughtful strength progressions and fantastic environment.Joust is a place where you truly leave your ego at the door--there are no cliques, no attitudes, and I love the diversity of this place--students, professionals, great balance of men and women--you wont feel outnumbered or like a rare species in any class. Whether youre just beginning Crossfit or a veteran of the sport, Joust coaches instill technique while pushing you to advance. If youre like me, you had some notions about what CF entailed prior to every stepping into a gym--and Joust obliterated those notions in every way possible.
Dropped in while in town for a college graduation. Coach Ryan was friendly, thorough in explaining the workout movements and attentive to all of the athletes working out. He made sure everybody modified the workout to their needs and abilities and truly was a caring & engaged coach! The other athletes were so friendly & welcoming too. I would highly recommend joining this great community no matter your level of fitness!
Ive been exercising at Joust for over a year now and the entire experience has been incredible. The coaches are all very supportive and really take time to work with those new to Joust, and in my case, new to CrossFit. Ryan will talk with you about your specific goals and concerns before youll lift a single kettlebell. I think my favorite thing about Joust is the amount of laughter that occurs before, after, and sometimes even during class. Overall, theres a ton of camaraderie and support.
Joust is a fantastic fitness community. The classes are well designed to give you a different workout every day. There is a variety of classes (Crossfit, Endurance, Gymnastics, Olympic Lifting, Yoga) which all add to a stronger, healthier body. The coaches work with each person that comes in to cater the workout toward that individuals level of fitness and accommodate any injuries the person may have. It is a great place to workout.
The best coaching and training Ive received in my life. Now that Im away from Ann Arbor for a year, I miss this place so much it hurts. The community is wonderful, the workouts are wonderfully designed, the training precise and scaleable. Joust is just such a special and wonderful place.
I have trained at joust for almost two years and enjoyed every single minute I worked out here. All the couches are very knowledgeable for crossfit movements, gymnastic skills, weight lifting, and nutrition; they also always encouraged me to accept challenges and achieve fitness goals. One of the best things I loved about Joust was its positive vibe and supportive spirit, cheering up each other until the last person ends the WOD. If you are looking for crossfit box in Ann Arbor, Joust is the right place to come and sweat.
My partner and I dropped in while visiting Ann Arbor. The coaching staff is knowledgeable and professional, the community extremely welcoming, and we were very impressed with the attention and energy being given to safety regarding COVID protocols. We will be planning on dropping in here whenever we’re in town.
Joust fitness where should I start. First and foremost if anyone is in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area and are looking for a Crossfit gym, Joust is the place to be. The coaching staff is top notch and very talented and knowledgeable. They work with each and everyone at their own skill level. They help and improve all aspects of an athlete from Olympic lifts to cardio driven WODs (workout of the day). Their daily programmed WODs are fantastic. They push you to great physical limits while also having fun. Joust includes great 6 weeks goal sessions that allows you to see your progress on a weekly basis. Ryan the owner (and coach) and the entire coaching staff treat you like family as do the members themselves. I was very lucky to be part of the Joust family while I worked at the University of Michigan. I will deeply miss the Joust family.Jason Viens9/5/17
After months of wavering, I finally decided to take the plunge into CrossFit at Joust, and I couldnt be happier with my experience. To second many of the other reviewers, Joust has a wonderfully supportive, non-judgmental culture that people of all experience levels and ages can feel welcome in. Ive been a member for 3 months, and not only have I begun seeing tremendous results but Ive also been amazed by the many friendships Ive developed. The coaches find the right balance of pushing you without over-doing it, and stress the importance of technique over maximizing weights, ensuring that new members are learning and improving at a safe and healthy pace. If youre at all considering CrossFit in the Ann Arbor area, you cant go wrong with Joust!
Dropped in today during Open GymCoaches very friendly, gave a tour, offered any input if wanted and otherwise cut me loose to go. Members were also very friendly and asked if I wanted to jump in on their WOD. Overall exactly the type of place you want to drop in - inviting, friendly, well-equipped etc. Definitely recommend!
Joust has been my home away from home ever since I moved to Ann Arbor for school. I’ve seen more progress in my strength and overall fitness level in these last few years than I did in the decade of my being a faithful member of the typical commercial gym scene (i.e., endless hours on an elliptical, lifting light weights, working out solely to get skinny). The coaches are personable and have an incredible eye for detail when it comes to form. Not only that, but somehow the coolest people in the area workout here and have come together to form a welcoming, supportive, and—to put it simply—AWESOME community. I look forward to my time at the gym now instead of dreading it!In addition to all that stuff, another thing I love about Joust is variety. The workouts vary in every way imaginable. Some days we’ll work on lifting the heaviest weight we can, while other days the focus will be mainly cardio. Sometimes the workout will last the whole hour, and other times it’s an explosive 10-minute drill. But the different formats of the daily CrossFit workouts aren’t the only thing that makes it obvious that Joust values variety as crucial to overall fitness level; the array of classes offered also shows it. While CrossFit workouts are the main thing here, they also offer weightlifting, kettle bell, kid’s class, and yoga, not to mention nutritional consulting by a certified dietician. Joust seriously has you covered when it comes to anything health and fitness related. You definitely wont regret checking it out.
My friend and I dropped in while visiting Ann Arbor. We felt incredibly welcomed and supported while at Joust. My friend is recovering from an injury and Ryan gave her modifications and really watched to make sure she was comfortable during the metcon. The WOD was no joke - great workout! We also really appreciated how Ryan walked around the whole time, making sure to check on each and every athlete. Overall we had such a great experience at Joust!! Thanks for having us!
What a warm, welcoming crew! Joust was my first step to a new, more athletic life. Despite not understanding virtually anything they were asking me to do at first, they patiently showed me the ropes. I always felt safe (theyre great with beginner modifications), I gained skills I never could never have imagined (me, doing Olympic style weight lifts?!) and in the process, I made some new friends. If youve been curious about CrossFit, and unsure how to get started, this is THE place to go!
I never expected that I was going to enjoy CrossFit as much as I do and that is all thanks to Joust. Initially the idea of CrossFit seemed really intimidating, but after the first month I was hooked. The people, the coaching, and the workouts are all FANTASTIC! I highly recommend Joust to anyone who is looking to change up thier fitness routine in the most positive matter and join a really encouraging and friendly community of people.
Great gym. Very welcoming community. Instructor (Ryan) was great; gave really clear direction and broke down the complex movements in sequence for us. Really enjoyed it. Came back and took advantage of open gym hours as well and experienced the same welcoming atmosphere.
Recently completed Jousts New You 6 week Challenge. It was excellent! Coaching was spectacular, facility created a great fitness environment, and the people give Joust an encouraging atmosphere. I will definitely be continuing with a membership here. - Highly recommended.
This is one of the best Crossfit (a.k.a. boxes) there is around town. The staff is patient and knowledgeable in all things fitness & health related. From nutrition programs to fundamental classes to kids Crossfit, Joust offers a well rounded program for people of all levels of fitness. From the beginner to the advanced athlete. Everyone at the gym is friendly and supportive of one another.
I started with joust in March 2018 and continued for more than an year before we had to move to a different location. Initially I was very shy and calm , hesitant to ask questions as always thought I was under performing compared to other jousters. But that was just for couple of weeks before I started challenging myself to become stronger day-day and not to compare with anyone but myself. My fellow jousters are very friendly like family and I used to get inspired by almost everyone over there.I love all my couches but my favorites are Ryan and Sharon as they always knew what works best for me and the way they trained was unbelievable.I started getting stronger everyday and build confidence that I could do more.Had a laparoscopic surgery couple of days back and believe or not , I am not needing any pain killers since when I got discharged. Thanks to the core strength I have developed at joust. When doctors compliment my pain tolerance, I had a big smile on my face and wanted to convey its all about the great workout I did at joust.I could lift myself up with arms and using body strength to move myself so that my abdominal incisions are stress free.Ryan , cant thank you guys enough. My word : Nothing is more important than keeping ourselves fit and healthy
The first time I stepped into Joust Strength + Fitness I had never picked up a weight in my life and felt like I didnt need to. A friend had asked me to come try out a class and after a year of telling him that weights werent for me and I was a cardio girl, I finally agreed to go. The minute I walked through the door I was immediately greeted and sat down with Ryan, the head trainer, and asked to fill out a waiver. I was so nervous for class but the whole group helped me through the warm up and Ryan thoroughly explained the movements and how I could modify them if necessary. The next day I needed help putting on my sports bra but I came back and bought a punch card and as soon as that ran out I became a member.Joust has been one of the best decisions of my life. I have been there for a little over a year now and couldnt imagine working out at another gym. Ive done things that I used to think were impossible and Ive grown in so many ways as an athlete. The coaches and other athletes arent just people I work out with, theyre my friends. Im so proud and privileged to be a part the Joust community.
Stopped in with my friend while in town from Florida . I have no previous crossfit experience, but coach Ryan was able to help me work my way through the filthy fifty. Coach Ryan was able to almost predict the exercise stations I would have trouble with and helped me with my technique. Great group of athletes were very supportive at the 9am Friday class! Would love to stop in again next time Im in town!
Great gym to drop into. My sister in law goes to this gym so I decided to check it out on my most recent trip to town. The coaching staff does a great job of helping individuals focus on good form, even though I’d just dropped in. They regularly checked in with folks to make sure they were okay during the class.
This gym couples great friendly (genuine) atmosphere with fantastic coaching. I came in as an experienced Crossfitter (5 years and a former coach in Colorado) and found this gym challenging without the rude intimidation and exorbitant membership fees that other gyms in town might offer. When I say challenging I mean that I get a great workout every time and am absolutely never bored with the programming! Great for people with kids! My 3 and 5 year old sit in a room off to the side and watch movies while I workout and my 7 month old sits in the carrier content to watch all the goings-on in the big room from a safe vantage point. Highly recommend this for families, unexperienced crossfitters AND experienced crossfitters.
Being new to the area, we were in search for a box that was both friendly and community oriented, with the right amount of rigor in the programming. We were happy to find all of that at Joust! Ryan, has been so great in letting us drop in a few times to make sure the fit was right for us, appreciating that finding the right box is like establishing a relationship. The programming is straightforward and challenging but, even better is the community; everyone has been so friendly and welcoming which isnt always easy to find. Were grateful to have found this place!
Really enjoyed my time at Joust - although it was short-lived because I had to leave town, Ryan and the team approached the classes with good energy and were very conscious of each members level of cross fit experience. Ill be stopping by whenever Im back in Ann Arbor for a workout!
Im a grad student with a limited budget. I decided to start doing crossfit purely as a way to get in shape for my wedding thinking it would be like a more expensive gym membership for a few months. Its not like that at all. Ive done spinning class memberships, yoga memberships (including hot), and now I feel like I was approaching exercise all wrong. Crossfit is totally different and works your entire body, and cardio. It actually works to get you in shape-- its fun, so you dont get bored, its only an hour, its a great community, and its set up in a way that makes you want to go back. Now I wish I would have started sooner (and I probably would have saved money from having to buy new clothes!).Im just going to highlight some of the things that make this gym great: 1) the instructors know and remember EVERYONES names, which is pretty impressive considering how many people go there ; 2) the instructors really know what they are doing, and demonstrate each activity before you begin and actively work to prevent injury; they walk around during class correcting form and keeping you motivated 3) all classes have all levels of people. Ive been to 6am, 9am, 6:30pm, kettlebell, etc. Worried you are out of shape and cant keep up? No worries, they show you multiple modifications for each exercise. The point is to be better than YOU were yesterday; each class is hard for all people because youre going at your own level and working on your own goals. 4) There are 6 week cycles and so workouts vary quite a bit, but theres always a common theme. You can see measurable improvements over just about a month. 5) All members are positive and often you work with a partner, so its easy to make friends. There are also social activities that they put on every couple of months or so.Go see for yourself!
I dropped in for a workout during a business trip in Ann Arbor. Rob was my coach and gave me some great cues for my cleans. He also showed me how to stabilize my left shoulder to help with my dumbbell thrusters. It’s rare to get that type of coaching during a drop in.
Probably the best Crossfit gym in Ann-Arbor. Look no further. For me, it was the first time I was trying Crossfit so I was both scared and excited. Ryan was very helpful, attentive and made sure I was doing the exercises correctly.I had amazing results doing the Joust WODs. I lost weight, I built muscles and I felt amazing.
I was a member here for 2 years while I was in grad school at UofM. I thoroughly enjoyed the programming and appreciated the flexibility of the types and scheduling of the classes. However, more than anything, I enjoyed the community of Jousters who got involved in everything from community service, to holiday WODs, to happy hours!

2022-02-10I love this gym! Ryan and staff are great. My wife is a member and I walked in to check out the place and the vibe hit me. I want to work out here. Welcoming what ever you bring. Its not about others expectations, its about what you want and living better. The other members are fun and encouraging and create a supportive vibrant community you want to be part of. Its all about being a better you.

2022-01-24I’ve been to a lot of different CrossFit gyms- each with their own focus- but what I love about F2L is the emphasis on functional fitness and the great variety of programming they have. In a week of classes I feel like I get a little bit of everything between upper/lower body, core, strength training, and good ol fashioned cardio. I truly feel anyone who shows up consistently, challenges themselves to do things that might be uncomfortable, and tries again the next day, will see great progress at this gym.

2022-07-20Coach Ryan was awesome. As a drop-in, he was really interested in learning about my physical condition, but he was also interested in getting to know me personally. This isn’t always the norm when you’re an “out of towner”. The structure of his programming was methodical and he made sure all the athletes were prepared for the WOD. I’ve had the chance to drop-in at a number of gyms and Fit2Live is at the top. Thanks for such a warm welcome. I’ll be back soon!

2022-06-02I enjoyed working out here! From the first day to the last day, I was always welcomed, and all the coaches were very friendly and professional. They have lots of class schedules, making it easier to make it there.I ended my membership in May since I graduated from grad school and left Ann Arbor, but I will miss working out here. Thanks for keeping me fit and healthy - physically and mentally - while finishing my degree, Fit2Live!!

2022-05-20I joined this gym just for a few months as I finished up my last semester of grad school. The other members are so friendly and the coaches take care to make sure you are comfortable and safe with the workout. I loved how CrossFit classes went until 7:30pm, which worked out great with my busy student schedule. I’ve been to other gyms that had a pretty strong competitive atmosphere between members (which is great for some) but I loved how supportive everyone was of people’s different skill levels.

2021-12-03Fit2Live is the absolute best gym in Ann Arbor! I joined Fit2Live relatively inexperienced with Crossfit and with fitness goals I wanted to smash. The coaches here were absolutely amazing at helping me at every step along the way. The coaches here help me nail my form and my lifts and they always challenge me.What I love most about Fit2Live is the community. There are people from all fitness levels at this gym. There are tons of new people and tons of seasoned pros. Being relatively new to fitness, I have never felt out of place at this gym. I always feel encouraged and supported by the people I workout with.As a busy law student, this is the one place I can go that helps me to escape from the stresses of exams and to not think about school. This gym has been indispensable to maintaining my mental and physical health this semester. As a student this is definitely an investment, but this is an investment that pays off, and Im glad Fit2Live has helped me prioritize fitness this year. I cant wait to see where I am in another six months.

2022-07-13Before starting at Fit2Live I thought that CrossFit was something that already super fit people did with other already super fit people to make fitness extra challenging. I didn’t think of it as something that an uncoordinated and out-of-shape person like me could do. I’m still not sure what possessed me to give it a try but I’m so glad I did! From day 1 the coaches and other members made we feel welcome. The coaches do a wonderful job of meeting each member where they are and helping each person adjust the workout to make it challenging but manageable. Because the community has a wide range of fitness levels, I have never felt judged or out of place for adjusting a workout to my abilities. I see no reason why ANYONE wouldn’t see results at Fit2Live with consistency and effort. I certainly have.I couldn’t recommend Fit2Live more highly. I’m sad to be moving away and only wish I had found them sooner!

2022-06-21Loved our time at Fit2Live! The coaches are great and friendly, same with all the member. Unlike many CrossFit gyms, they practice what they preach when it comes to good form. I never realized the bad lifting habits I had picked up from other gyms until I came to Fit2Live. We will miss Fit2Live! If youre on the fence about trying it out - DO IT!

2022-08-11This is an amazing gym with a great community to keep you motivated and wanting to go to class! The coaches are all very helpful and encouraging. I also love the tips and tricks emails that come along with membership to help get you on track with general health and nutrition.

2022-08-10I have been coming here since May with a new resolve to improve my health. I have been so thankful for my time here. What I needed was accountability and Fit2Live has been that for me. Coach Brandon led me through the Foundations of CrossFit and after that I started participating in classes daily so long as I was in town. I see the same ladies in the morning and they have since become the people the people I look forward to seeing in the morning to spur me on. I have felt a huge improvement in my health and excited to come to class each day and attempt things I have never done before!
