Comment: DONT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!! THEIR CARS ARE PIECE OF TRASH!!!If I could put 0 starts I most certainly would!! They rented me a car with absolutely NO OIL and apparently the people that check the cars to see if theyre in good condition dont do their job!We rented the car from Oakland drove to Sacramento, and it drove fine, we wanted to visit Lake Tahoe, yet we didnt even make it there because the car suddenly started over heating to the point everything in the screen was red! I called the department & they told me it would take them at least 13-17 hours to get us a SWAP CAR. Those 13 hours we would be stranded in the middle of the road WITH A BABY! When the tow truck person arrived, he drove our swap car from SFO to Oakland and I had told him that the car wasnt drivable because of the overheating just to find out that he went to go buy coolant & oil! he didnt have a tow truck he came in the car we were going to drive back home because I found the receipt of the things he bought at Orileys & the car only had half a tank of gas, I had to ask him to fill up my tank again since I had already paid my first rental car gas. We called at 1pm & we didnt get help until 2am legit waiting and stranded in the middle of the road where the car left us!They are very irresponsible & it is not a family trusted company when they didnt even care that we had a baby on board in the middle of the road, I regret renting a car with this company knowing it was pretty much the same price with Enterprise or anything but this!!When you call, they legit threaten you that if nothing is wrong with the car that you will have to pay all the expenses from something that they know its their fault!!

Comment: We waited for 1.5 hours and then they gave us a smaller car than we ordered. The car had only a half tank of gas. When we complained they told us the car was the car we ordered and that we should just take a picture of the gas gauge and deal with it when we returned the car. When we called to complain, we were put on hold for nearly an hour. In Chicago, my brother was told he couldn’t go to Michigan even though Michigan is less than a 100 miles from Chicago. Comment: This company is very underrated as they have the best prices overall that I have came across (depending upon the car you’re renting). Companies that offer discounts and codes from third-parties still cant compare to what Fox Rental have in comparison. After a recent accident, I have came across them and rented a Toyota Corolla Black 2022~ and car was clean and no issues when I needed to handle things. Definitely will rent again!My only thing is returning the car, as it should, as one representative explained, be a grace period of 2 hours~ from the initial agreed upon time. Im not sure if it has that within contract but other than that, wonderful company to say the least. Thank you again and have a wonderful day, as we woke up again this morning!

She also provided a safer route, that save time, to get to our destination. We rented a 4 Runner and it was great. The only bad experience was the cleanliness of the interior. That the only complaint. Little thing that were hidden were found. Just need to spend a couple extra minutes checking all the nooks and crannies.

Comment: This review is long overdue. Fox Car Rental came though for me when I was visiting my family for Christmas in December 2023. I originally had a reservation with a competing agency for 12/23/2024; however, even with a reservation, the wait for a car was a minimum of three hours (and this also after waiting in line for almost 45 minutes). I had plans in Santa Rosa that day so I could not wait that long.I stepped out of line and tried to visit a few other desks, but everyone was booked solid. I went online and, by some miracle, I was able to book a reservation with Fox. When I got to the desk, Zhi, the agent who assisted me, said that inventory was also pretty tight, but he would try his best to help me. The cost was a little pricey, but I was in a car and on the road about 30 minutes later. I appreciated the great customer service and would use them again.

Comment: Renting a car sometimes can be a stressful experience but my experience at Fox Oakland was absolutely stellar and that was in part due to Pastor who helped me when I went outside to get my car and Raymond (I think he was a manager, not sure but he was running around just as much as his staff getting cars for people waiting) they were both professional and really helpful. The gentleman who was working at the checkout who finally opened the gate for my exit was also super kind I didnt get his name but definitely want to give him a shout as well. People always like to take time to complain but its also important to give props where they are due. Ill be back for sure!

Patricia was the same lady that checked the car out to me. She was very Professional, Friendly, Cordial, and Informative. She advised me about certain areas to avoid when getting gas, and seemed sincerely concerned about my safety. I really appreciated that she took the time to inform of possible problem areas of the City. When I returned, she checked me back in. Comment: I had a bad experience with Fox Car Rental. Despite their seemingly affordable initial price, they ended up charging us double the stated rental fee. We were tricked into prepaying for a full tank of gas, only to return the car with half a tank and still be charged over $100. The associate assured us they would fill the difference for a mere $4.59, but that turned out to be a blatant lie.On top of that, there were numerous mysterious taxes and service fees that Im not entirely convinced were legitimate.As for the car itself, we rented a 4Runner that felt like a cheap knockoff. It was noisy, had rough shifting, doors that didnt close properly, a manual tailgate, and even had stains on the interior despite supposedly having only 5000 miles on it.I usually try to avoid renting cars whenever possible, but this experience was particularly disheartening. Ive had good experiences with other rental companies before, but this was a new low. I booked through a third-party site, and now I can only assume thats why we were ripped off. My advice: steer clear of Fox Car Rental. They are not worth the hassle or the headache. Avoid at all costs.

So my Retainer fee couldn’t use the same card. Very off! They wouldn’t even run the visa. So they canceled my original reservation after I paid for it and I had to pay three times more than that to rent another vehicle. So basically, I paid four times the original amount, even though I had the right Visa card. I’d say Fox is nothing but a scam. car was dirty inside and was four times too much. Waiting in line for over an hour was bad enough, but the icing on the cake was the outrageous $1000 deposit and a quote that ballooned from $268 to over $400. Cancelling the 24 cars I booked for our company retreat is a no-brainer because I refuse to support such a shady, unreliable operation. I explained to the person at the counter that it was not a good option for me and my 60 year old wife told me that she couldnt give me another car unless I paid a higher rate and I had to pay almost 40 dollars more to be able to change the car. I was later charged $250 and fox claimed that I had a dog in the car which I never did. They sent photos of dog hair in the car. I have no idea if the car they took photos of was mine, but I never had a dog in the car. Will never do business with this place again. Would recommend you stay away.

Comment: When I got to the desk she told me my car wasnt ready but they could get me a mini van or a mustang. I said that i would take the mustang, no problem. When she gave me the itemized bill AFTER i paid, she had charged me an ADDITIONAL 30$ a day for the “upgrade”? Then when I told her i didnt want to pay she told me she typed for a few minutes on the comp and then said she couldnt take it off but would reduce it to 20$ extra per day. I didnt have time for these shenanigans so i agreed.Then she asked me where I was going. She told me with that route I would be paying around 30-40$ worth of tolls and for 12.99/day she would include all tolls and i wouldnt have to go online and pay each one. Since i had it for 4 days, i agreed that the 12.99x4=52 was worth the convenience. Turns out she lied to me because I only incurred 6$ worth of tolls on my trip. I understand good salesmanship but this was just straight up lying to me on the car upgrade and the toll package. Wont be renting from them again.

Comment: Rented a car from this place in July of 2023. Went through three tolls, which totaled $21. I missed the 48 hour window to pay the tolls, and so FOX paid them. Just got a bill from FOX for $66. FOX is charging $45 in their own administrative fees. I understand some kind of charge for being inconvenienced, but $15 per toll in administrative fees? Thats more than twice the cost of the tolls. In my opinion, theres something wrong with that. Rent at your own risk!

Comment: Enterprise literally saved my vacation. We originally prepaid for a rental car with Fox at the Oakland airport. They were impossible to get a hold of and we ended up having to set it up through Expedia because they either wouldn’t answer the phone or the employees barely spoke English. My friend literally couldn’t understand them. The only reason we picked the company is because they claimed to be open until midnight. With our flight delays, and the bus being late, we got to the car rental 15 minutes before it closed. The employee saw us, walked past us, drove off, and left us stranded in California, where we’ve never been before. After traveling all day from Detroit, to Las Vegas, to Oakland, we were exhausted and at a loss as to what to do next. We even asked two other employees what to do, and they didn’t help us. One did try to flag the man down in the parking lot but they both left. They saw us standing in front of the desk with our luggage. They knew we had a reservation for the car, why didn’t they check in on it or call us? They should have been expecting us in their system. It was all prepaid for. It’s not like we could call and tell them we were running late, because they never answer the phone. We ended up having to Uber to get to our hotel an hour away, and we had to quickly figure out accommodations for our plans for the week. It had always been a dream of mine to go to Disneyland and Enterprise made that dream a reality for me. From beginning to end, everyone at Enterprise was kind and extremely accommodating, considering that this was all last minute. Not only were they helpful, but they even text to check in on how things were going and at the very end they called to see how the car rental went. We never heard a single thing from Fox. I can’t recommend Enterprise enough. The car was extremely clean and nice. A very comfortable ride. I’d never recommend Fox. It took several days for Expedia to correct things so we could get our money back. We lost money using Uber and having to figure out how to get around California without a rental car. I’d give no stars if I could.

The lady who is out on the lot checking vehicles in and out is very pleasant and welcoming. Comment: The entire experience was seamless, no surprise fees at the counter. Minimal wait in line, about 15min. And then 5 min at the counter to hear about the terms and conditions. Car ran well, was clean inside and out, very good on gas. Drop off was just as easy, just unload the car, give the keys back and be on your way. 5/5 recommend, will use again next time I’m in the Bay Area.

Comment: Awful customer service! I had a reservation that hadnt shown up in their system yet. The lady said if I just reserved it it would take 30 min to show up, I checked and saw I reserved it 75 minutes ago and told her. She said anyway wait 30 min and then come back. I asked if she was sure it would show up after 30 minutes bc what she was saying was not consistent. I said calmly I need to know if I should wait more I go home and I come back after a few hours, but she didnt answer my question and repeated what she said with a louder tone. I asked what if I cancel my reservation and rent a car directly from her, she said it is impossible bc it will cause a duplicate in their system and the car is not ready to give it to me. At this point I was too confused, isnt the reservation in the system? Dont they have the car ready? How long should I wait? etc. The lady started yelling at me while I looked at her unbelievably, and suddenly she stopped talking to me. A guy was there too. I asked him the same question and if he can help me in any way. He repeated what his colleague said and told me they have the right to refuse service to me and if I dont leave they call the cop. I was like really??? Are you serious? I am your customer asking a simple question about my reservation in a calm and polite way and is this how you serve your customer? He said yes there are many other companies where I can rent a car from them. I went to the next counter and took my rental in a few minutes, but the lady at the other company asked me to talk to the fox manager and tell her what just happened. I returned there and talked to the manager. I got the same response from their manager. The manager told me they call the cop for the customers not only for being rude or making trouble, they also call the police if they cant communicate with the customer. This statement from their manager has blown my mind and I saw this is a waste of time to talk with people. It happened on 6/2/2023 at 5pm.

Comment: Horrible rental place. I had a reservation at 11:59 pm. My flight got delayed so I went to pick it up the next day. They canceled it because it had been 6 hours since my reservation pickup. Except they had been closed for those 6 hours so there was no way I could have gotten it. They then tried to offer me a new reservation that cost over 200 dollars extra because in person rentals have mandatory insurance included. Lady behind me had a prepaid reservation for a economy car and they didn’t have any so they charged her an up charge for the next level car they had. Save your time and money and use hertz or National. This is the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had and will never use them again. There is also no direct line to counter and the call line is outsourced. They make it almost impossible to talk to a real person.

Comment: Absolutely an amazing experience with Fox rent a car. The shuttle from the airport was easy to find plus no wait time. There was no line when we arrived at pickup counter and the attendant working was an absolute JOY to chat with. The car checkout attendant (Edwina) was also a JOY to chat with as well. Everyone from Fox was awesome, which is hard to find these days. The car we were assigned was a clean and comfortable ride.When we came back to return the car, that also was an easy, quick, and stress free process. Edwina checked us out and once again was so sweet. We waited about 2 minutes for the shuttle to the airport to arrive, and that was it. Such an easy and nice experience. Thanks Fox!

Then they put on extra insurance on top of the full coverage. So I ended up paying over 1000 dollars for a pre paid cart for initially 450 dollars!Even the women employed by Fox who gave my the the keys to the car said - oh, you paid way to much, you don’t need that!Since I was in a hurry I just took of, but I hope I can worn others from doing the same mistake. Comment: Davonte, at the pick-up desk, was professional and quick to complete our reservation. It felt as if we were only there for 5 minutes. Once we hopped in our car and stopped at the final kiosk, we were greeted by the sweet Patricia. She was all smiles and super friendly. If we werent eager to drive to our hotel, we wouldve loved to continue our conversation with her. At the end of our trip, we returned our car to Pastor. He was also all smiles and such a positive energy! He made returning our car a memorable one with his humor and our short conversation. Everyone involved with renting our car through Fox made our experience stress-free and easy. Comment: Not worth the seemingly less expensive prices (compared to Hertz, Enterprise, etc.) you are shown before booking. My $380 reservation turned into $735. Outrageous prices for any changes, only 3 drop-off locations in Northern CA, SFO pick-up requires a shuttle that takes at least 20 minutes & is outside of the normal rental car pick-up spot (sketch). No remorse or assistance from customer support around issues raised. This is like the Spirit or Frontier of rental cars.. once all said and done, you are paying just as much or more than going with the better quality options. Would NOT recommend Fox rental cars.

Comment: If you’re looking for a rental car company please do yourself a favor and do not I repeat do not rent from this place. I booked my reservation through priceline. A month after my reservation was completed I was charged $133 for tolls, with no receipt provided there is absolutely no way I incurred all these charges I may have crossed a toll at max 5 times with the highest toll being $7 there’s no way I should have been charged this much. When I called the billing department at fox rent a car I was told to call another company American solution about the transaction, 🤦🏽♀️ the representative refused to transfer me to a supervisor, manager or someone in charge instead took my phone number and I more than likely won’t hear from them ever because they got their extra money out of me and that’s all that matters to them. Now I have no problem paying tolls that I’ve accrued but to be charged an obscene amount of money with no receipt or record to confirm that all the tolls they charged me for were mine is absolutely unacceptable. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM, the only way customers will be treated better is if we take our business away, please spend your money elsewhere and save yourself the headache it’s not worth it. Comment: This was my first and last time renting from Fox. They had the best rates on Expedia so I went with them. I would advise people NOT to pick up on a Saturday morning. I got here 35 minutes after my pickup time (after 10am) and I was told that there was an hour wait for compact SUVs but I could pay to upgrade to a Jeep Wrangler or minivan to pick up asap. Neither worked for my group, but I thought it was concerning they weren’t upgrading me automatically when it was their fault. I was also really confused as this has never happened to me with any other rental car company (Enterprise, Hertz, Sixt, Avis, Budget). They said this happens all the time for them because they don’t have time to process returns until the morning so I would have to wait. I was also told that I was holding up the line by asking more questions and should just go over there and sit down and wait. Never again. Unhelpful staff and bad service.

Comment: The absolute hands-down worst rental car company you will ever find. Hidden fees and absolutely rude agents. My flight was delayed and I kept the car 4 extra hours. However, I called them and paid for an extra day and let them know.I also told them I would probably not keep the car a full extra day as I was trying to rebook.When I arrived just 4 hours past original due time and checked out instead of charging me $52 they charged me $92 for keeping the car 4 extra hours. They charged me$20 for making the reservation change and $20 for early return. Complete misrepresentation of what I was told when I called them to let them know I was late. BEWARE OF OF THE HIDDEN FEES. When I called and asked about the extra fees allthey would say was it was in my contract. One agent went as far as to say it wasn’t right but in my contract. Comment: I came from 40 minutes drive away from my house to rent a car, I tried to book online and online it gave me the option to rent and pick up the same day, but I just went to airport and a Philippine women told me that I needed to book for three days minimum, i asked her why online says I can book for one day only and she said even though I do that she won’t be able to give me a car.She said I needed to do it 24 hours before which doesn’t make sense to me why when you go and try to book online will give you one option and when you get to the airport they tell you with not a good attitude that you can’t.Both ladies that were there today were rude.Very rude. I told her that my flight had been delayed three times this morning I was in a rush to get to a meeting that I had 30 minutes. Knowing this she gave me all the options, guided me quickly, told me were to walk and quickly wished me a Happy Birthday knowing my birthday was coming up. Wonderful! Got to the vehicle, btw they upgraded, another amazing surprise! Im feeling good! Checked out the car, it was super clean ready to go. The people who checked me out were fabulous. Comment: Horrible experience, reserved an SUV months in advance, upon arrival I was told no SUV was available and was offered a compact car in exchange for the same price. Of course I refused as I needed a larger vehicle. I was eventually offered a mini van. The van turned out to be fine but I was upset they did not give me any sort of a discount for not having the vehicle I reserved. Then they offer prepaid fuel. They advertise it saying there gas is significantly cheaper than local gas stations. Not being from the area I did not know any better. Turns out they are significantly more expensive. We also were not told until we returned the vehicle you pre pay for an entire tank whether you bring back the car full or completely empty. Please do not go here, save yourself the hassle pay a bit more and go to a reputable rental company.

We purchased the priority pass so we would not have to wait in long lines. We ended up not needing it because there was only one other person in line.It was 19.99. We were offered a minivan upgrade instead of waiting an estimated 1 hour for our midsized car to be cleaned and ready. The lady behind the counter was friendly, professional, and was working hard to try and get us in and out in a timely manner. The Chrysler Pacifica was new and clean and had less the 1500 miles on it. We are aware of the low ratings and reviews and decided to try for ourselves and were rewarded with a great rental and great customer service that we would expect from any other Rental Agency at the airport. I THOUROUGHLY explained that I didnt want the extra insurance because I have it already through my VISA. The clerk said no problem and went about finishing up. When I went to return the car the bill was several HUNDREDS more because they added it in. I remained calm thinking this is a mistake and it should just be removed due to a mix up and I clearly had not been in any accident. Comment: I enjoy fox rental car. My issue was the person at the counter was a kinda pushy with buying the ez-pass but couldn’t properly explain the local toll costs / structure. In order to sellsomething like that you should be able to explain when I would get charged an administrative fee if I don’t self-pay the toll or atleast refer me to the material right at the counter. He keeps saying it was over $20 a day, when it wasn’t - if you don’t pay your SF tolls online within 48 hrs, it would then defer to FOX and the renter would have to pay FOX the base toll rate + the administrative fee. Also when I got to the counter, they said they didn’t have my car class size and offered me a smaller class. I asked if they would adjust the price of my rental to reflect the lower class and he just said no, bc I had paid online. I said I didn’t want that class bc I bought full size and asked why can be done and then they magically had a clean car in my class less than 5 mins later? I felt those things were a little deceptive.It was an easy after hours drop off. Had to wait almost 30 minutes for the shuttle from rental location to airport and I missed my flight because of it!!! Aheads up that the shuttle is slow pre-opening hours would have been appreciated. I even called the night before they told me the shuttle runs every 10-15mins even at 4/5 am and that wasn’t true.

My credit card limit was 300. Would fox let me do deposit on that and rental on debit card? No. Would the man helping me at counter add some kind of 1.25 disc so i could rent the car? No. The ramifications from this are so damaging. Becauss this place couldnt bend a rule just a tad i had to go back to airport where i sat from midnite to 2am waiting for someone to pick me up. Comment: I was helped by Patricia and Davonte, at first I was nervous about driving off with a car because of all of the reviews on here from other people complaining about changes to their initial quote. But it wasnt a bad experience for me. The only thing is that you may be quoted a price per day online, but theres also taxes, and tourism fees that hike up your price which your informed about when you check in on day one at the desk.Id probably say make sure you document any damage you see on the car on the paper that is usually placed on the dashboard of the drivers side before you drive off the lot so you dont get charged for the damage when you return it.The rental process was otherwise smooth, I got into the shuttle bus from the Oakland airport from Reno, NV and got in line(Fox car rentals, which wasnt too busy. There was one other person in front of me cashing out to rent a car, and one behind me when I was being helped). I walked out to the fox 🦊 rental car parking lot section since there are also a couple other rental car companies in the same parking lot. The cars are parked by parking spot number, so I walked up to the number I was given by Davonte and started documenting the small scratches that were in and on the car from previous drivers before I drove off to Petaluma CA.When you return your car 🚗 you drive into the parking area where the car was picked up, and they come out to you to inspect any changes or damages and send you a receipt based on the sheet that you fill out before you drive off with the rental car on day one. Then your all set after handing back the keys. No other paperwork to do from there.I will say going from an SUV to a compact car is an adjustment. But that was the cheaper route to go. At least the cars are newer models.

The car rental company I had pre paid had already left their jobs and shut down leaving me abandoned without a rental car I HAD PRE PAID! Other businesses were open, so I was forced to rent from another company, to get out the the dark, dingy airport region in Oakland.FOX RENT A CAR was still open and they arranged a great deal to rescue me out of my situation. The real problem was driving it, the brakes vibrated the whole car at low speed and braking at higher speed it felt unsafe. I’m definitely not going to use Fox again. Comment: This was my first experience with Fox Rent A Car. I rented a car during off-peak hours. No line at the counter. The staff was professional/civil enough, albeit without any additional pleasantries.Unfortunately, everyone is masked up now, so that makes the old smile-heavy way of doing Customer Service nigh-impossible.The compact car they gave me was clean, with only superficial scuffs on the exterior. The checkout process was basically self-serve, probably due to a combination of Pandemic Safety Protocols and Intentional Low Staffing. So they dont walk around the car with the customer anymore - the customer has to do that, take pics if necessary, and mark any damage on a pre-printed diagram. Thats what I did.The return process was similar... There was someone outside with a tablet, doing customer returns. Also with minimal contact. No issues there.If I dont get my deposit back, I will update this review. Else, consider this a good review for this budget car-rental company.

Comment: I booked through a third party website and my rental actually went flawlessly. No line at 11:30 pm, counter attendants were very helpful and friendly. Car performed fine over the course of a 10 day trip with lots of driving, and I paid about a third of the price hertz and enterprise were asking.FYI, I did later receive a ticket for a toll that I thought I had prepaid, so if you aren’t purchasing the toll package make sure you’re familiar with the Bay Area online tolling system prior to picking up your rental.

Comment: I booked a car for a certain price ($455) and ended up paying $1078!!! I was blown away by the increase. I wanted a car in a certain budget range to keep my spending under control and I ended up with a total rip off. The car was not even thoroughly clean. I found used tissues in one of the compartment and hair on the dashboard. The representative was nice and welcoming but the big reason I am not satisfied with this rental is the price difference between the booking and what I actually ended up paying.

Comment: I was a little worried about renting from Fox after reading some reviews. but then again, all the rental companies have some bad reviews. I am not discounting anyones experience, but our was near perfect. We arrived about 7 hours after our original pick up time(flight snafu). Agent said that our reservation had expired after 4 hours. They said they just needed to add a charge to reopen the reservation. They charged us for a half tank of prepaid gas, and told us to bring it back half full (so didnt cost us anything extra in the end). Vehicle was a 2021 toyota 4runner. Was in great shape and clean. (we booked a full size SUV) We were a little confused by the toll road situation, but just paid on-line after crossing the golden gate and also the oakland bridges. (I think all is well, havent gotten any demands for other payments) Price was excellent compared to competitors. Drop off was simple. They did preauthorize an extra $150 or something for a deposit. Wasnt a big deal for me personally (they were giving me a $40,000 car), but could see if you were tight on budget how it could be a problem if you didnt know. Final charge was exactly what was quoted when booked through expedia. Would use again.

Comment: Rented a car from Fox had it reserved for a certain amount of time now Im sitting in the parking lot waiting for the car. I rented a car and should have told them that I needed the car back because I already had a reservation extension. Theres absolutely perhaps four cars in the entire lot. If I was in a hurry or if I had a meeting or if I had some business matters to attend to immediately I would be in trouble! I think they rented more cars than they actually have. Went to go and look to see to rent another car from another company but unfortunately it was double the price at this time of day. The people that work at Fox are nice and efficient but they have a shortfall of vehicles. Would I rent from them again? Yes if I didnt have to wait! No if I had to wait!

Comment: Cheap prices = bad customer service and overall experience.I was given a hard time when I arrived 2 hours after my scheduled pick up time after waiting an hour or more for the shuttle from the airport and after spending more time waiting in line at the office.Then I was given a different vehicle than was promised which had plenty of scratches and dings. The vehicle performed well however, no complaints there.Upon returning the vehicle to the airport, I was then asked to leave and only return once the car was washed because they aim to provide clean cars to new customers. Im not sure how that is my job! This nearly made me late for my flight, just so some minimal dirt on the tires and fenders could be rinsed off.Will never use Fox Rent A Car again.

Comment: I recently rented at Fox Rent a Car in Oakland, CA. Although my experience renting was fine, the wait was short, the employees friendly, the return of my vehicle was easy. My problem is that my deposit was not fully refunded. The car was full of gas and I pre-paid online for the full rental price, so that I could receive a discount for paying in full in advance. However, when you rent the car they charge a $150 deposit, which is suppose to be returned in full... Mine was not. My return paperwork shows the car was returned on time and full of gas and that I paid in full at the time of booking my reservation. I called the 800 number to dispute this and waited on hold for over an hour, my place on the call queue never changed. For these reasons, I wouldnt book with this company again. Its stealing from the customer, when the deposit isnt returned. If this is how they compensate for the lower prices, then its dishonest and not right by me.

And since I booked through a travel site, like 99% of travelers, they wouldnt refund my money or try to make other accommodations. The operations manager Michael wouldnt even look up my reservation - he just said he had nothing and shrugged it off. Clearly this happens all the time because if it were rare, he would have at least shown some feeling for our now being stranded at the airport over an hour from our destination. Comment: Renting from Fox was my biggest regret of 2019. It was awful while it was happening over the 2019 holidays and the repurcussions lasted through the first several months of 2020. If I had known how much this would end up costing me in terms of time and stress, I would have gone for any one of the reputable alternatives. I would have ended up paying as much, but with normal service.I waited 90 minutes for a car to be available for a reservation I had made weeks in advance. Other angry customers who said they had been waiting for over 3 hours were canceling their reservations, otherwise my wait might have been longer. One customer waiting in line was complaining about receiving a damaged car with its check engine light on. On its own, my wait would have been acceptable, if it were not for the following:-My cars rearest passenger window was vandalized and the administrator assigned to my case was shockingly unprofessional and rude at every opportunity. She was suspiciously combative about submitting an invoice to insurance and was insistant that I pay the damage with my credit card. I asked her to email the invoice they had to my insurance (I provided all their info) and she emailed an incomplete invoice to me instead and told me to do it. She was slow to act and when there were delays, went straight to threatening to send my bill straight to collections. My insurance was very accommodating, happy to pay, and confused as to why the rental company was acting this way.-When I spoke with customer service immediately after my window was vandalised, they offered for me to swap my car in San Bruno (convenient, since thats where I was staying) instead of Oakland (I was in SF at the time) but when I got there, they said there was a $100-$200 (they couldnt give me a solid number?) fee to swap there, that nobody had spoken with them about anything otherwise. I drove from SF to San Bruno to Oakland, back to San Bruno unnecessarily, only to get home well after midnight, when I could have gone straight to Oakland from SF.-Customer service wait times are always over twenty minutes and when I opted for the call-back option, nobody ever called me back.

Comment: I would leave 0 stars, if that was possible. I made a Pay-Now Reservation, which you cannot change or be refunded for (that part is conveniently not explained until post checkout). Due to COVID 19 our flights were cancelled and when I tried to refund the reservation, the customer service rep was really awful. Store credit was my only option. I agreed to store credit that could be used within one year and was told that the security deposit would be refunded ($150.00). 1 month goes by and the customer service rep is no longer responding to my emails. I received no instructions on how to redeem my store credit and the refund of the security deposit has not occurred. I called both customer service numbers. One number (the 929 number) is a voicemail box. Nobody answers it and of course it is full, so you cant leave a voicemail. The 1-800 number is also completely automated and has no customer service agents available. It appears that my rental amount (~$190) and the security deposit (~$150) is gone and I have no recourse. This agency is a scam from start to finish.

Comment: The car was clean and better than I expected. The desk service was good. The call center is terrible. I had to change my reservation to return the car a day early. When picking up the car, the attendant said there was an after hours drop off. When I called to change my reservation, the person said I had to drop off the car within business hours, which was not possible due to my flight take off time. I asked her to confirm with the desk staff at the airport since they told me they had an after hours drop off. She did not contact them and said they do not take calls and that I had to go there in person. I went there in person and they told me they had an after hours drop off. The person on the phone threatened me that if I drop the car off after hours it would abandonment of the vehicle and I would be liable. Then why would the desk staff have an after hours drop off. They were unfriendly, unsympathetic, and threatening. The call center were a waste of time.

Comment: We drove cross country in the rented SUV and it performed well the entire trip. We were able to rent the car for 3 1/2 weeks which worked out well for us. We needed to extend for one day and the process was very easy, over the phone, with customer service.The young lady that assisted us at the rental counter was very friendly and made the process enjoyable. The young lady that assisted us with the return was also friendly and professional, it was also an easy and enjoyable experience to return the car. Altogether we are very pleased with the experience and we would rent from Fox again.

Comment: My car broke down in the middle of Nevada desert around 5pm ( 32 degrees Fahrenheit) called road side assistance also costumer service none responded called several times and finally roadside call back after 6 hours. I had to hire a Mobil mechanic in order to get the car back on the road. I talked to Fix rent a car manager when I returned the car and she said she will send me an email with a discount on my next rental and She never did. When we arrived we were told yeah everyone has a reservation and it will take 30- 45 minutes to get a car over here and we will call you when its ready.Update: After waiting 35 minutes I returned to the desk and asked for an update. After getting on the computer the attendant informed me that he didnt see any minivans that were supposed to come in at all that night. Comment: Jason from Fox Rent a Car at the Oakland International Airport was fantastic. We had some confusion from the onset over who could pick up the rental and drive it away if an absent person reserved it in his/her name. He patiently and clearly explained everything to us, we made some changes to our reservation, we had to wait a bit outside of the line, but it was ok—we got the car make and model that we had originally had our hearts set on renting (Wrangler). He Actually saved us money too by offering us the toll package (I didn’t know there were tolls driving from Oakland to San Diego) and some other ad ons. He was an expert at his job, great at explaining everything and very respectful, kind and just genuine even in a pandemic (I noticed that they were short staffed), so 5 stars to Fox and Jason!

I’ve used Fox Rental multiple times out of the Oakland airport location and have had a good experience.I understand unforeseen circumstances come up like when I waited for my rental for 4 hours because their detail shop was having issues. I waited and never made a complaint.But this last time took the cake. I was given a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander with only 8700 miles and it broke down 3 exits from the rental place on the freeway on my way home.I called roadside assistance and the rep begins to ask how many miles does the vehicle have, did you hear any noise prior to taking the car off the lot, what is it doing and so on and so on. I’m not a mechanic nor do I believe these questions are important. I told them where I was at but he kept insisting I provide him with my cordance. No dice.I leave the rental on the side of the freeway because I was more concern for my safety. Go back to the rental office and everything went smoothly till it was time to check out with the replacement. I was informed that I could not take the replacement BUT in fact they would have to drop me off and leave me there with their broken down vehicle in (80 plus degree weather and no a/c) and wait abandoned on the side of the extremely busy freeway till the tow truck arrived. I told them no way and said one of the Fox employees would have to wait with me till the tow truck arrived.Here is the icing on the cake I was then told that if the vehicle was hit I would be held responsible for leaving it on the side of the freeway. So my question to you Fox, if I was in the piece of junk you rented out to me and it got hit while I’m waiting for the tow truck would you have paid my medical bills for any injuries sustained?Appointment was at 10:30 and it is now 2:30 and it looks like I’ll still be here for another hour or two.The sorry thing is after I post this Fox will respond with a generic automated reply. And to email customer support if I still need anything and they’ll get back to me in 48 hours.

Comment: I booked and paid for a SUV with Fox, two weeks prior pick up date (09/14/20). When I got to Oakland Airport for my 12noon pick up, there were 4 people in front of me and a few others sitting on the side. Each of these people were waiting on their vehicles that had not been cleaned yet. When my turn came, the lady at the desk said, my SUV would be ready in 30mins. One hour later, I was still waiting as the others in front of me. I ask to speak to the manager, who showed up 20mins later. He was not only rude to me, he was rude to his co worker behind the desk, who was doing everything in her ability to help all of the waiting customers.By the time it came back to me to get the SUV I paid for two weeks in advance, I was told there was no vehicle for me, but they could give me a small compact! Two hours later, I left with no car. I missed an important interview and I missed the outing that had been planned with family members. It ended up that I had to get a uber to my destination as I had no other means of transport.Later that evening (4.45pm), I get a call from Fox, saying they had found me a SUV!! By this stage I had long left Oakland and certainly would not be returning to Fox Car Rental for anything.This place is beyond the worst I have ever experienced, and I will never give them service again. Avoid Fox Car Rental and believe all the previous 1* reviews that come before me.

Comment: This company only uses the few cars they have as a front to draw in victims. Renting cars is only a side hustle. They rent far more cars than they have. Their policy is written such that even though they knew they had no cars, you must wait 3.5 hours after your reservation time ( even if it was booked weeks in advance) for a car they do not have to maybe show. If one does not show after 3.5 hours you become eligible for a refund.After the woman at the counter told me no cars would be returned the day of my rental and because of this I would be eligible for a refund, I asked for this in writing with a signature. She refused and proceeded to cancel my booking. She refunded my deposit, but not my rental fee. She then told me that she made a note associated with my rental that no cars would be available so I should be eligible for a full refund. She told me to call customer service for the rest of the refund. I did. An hour later customer service answered (mind you, I am sitting at the Fox rent a car counter) and told me the woman actually made a note that I was not willing to wait. This causes a forfeit of my refund. I told the customer service rep I said to only cancel if a full refund was possible. He told me a manager would call by 9 and to continue to wait at the counter till then. I did. No call. I proceeded to find the original woman that wrote the note and caused the loss of my money (she had immediately left the counter and hid about 10 minutes into our interaction). I asked her why she wrote what she did. All I wanted was to pick up a rental car. I never said I would not wait. She told me she did not want to talk to me anymore and ignored me. I then went to Alamo and rented a car. Fox is not a real company. They will do what they want with your money. They will not abide by any legal interactions with you. Guy with glasses confirmed, “yes the car will be available tomorrow at 7 am or any similar vehicle with seven seater” and we left. The following morning at 7 am, girl named Ashley she said, we don’t have a car, and I said we have reservations and even confirmed about it twice. Comment: There was an extremely long line at Fox and 2 employees walked by. However, neither one assisted the 1 person at the counter. Although I had prepaid for a Dodge Charger, I was informed that there would be a hour wait! So I patiently waited for the vehicle. When the vehicle became available, I could clearly see that the level of sanitation needed for this pandemic had not been met! Then I was told to walk around the car and mark it myself on their paperwork. Upon returning the car, I did not receive my receipt. I initially went to the internet chat, which is not a chat. You provide you issues and basically email your thoughts to Fox. And then I called and held for 30 minutes to not reach anyone! So I woke up to call FOX rental car and been holding 25 minutes at 8 am 07/20/20, because returning my rental car has not provided me a receipt all while having charged me a $500 deposit! My issue is to be returned my $500 completely! This is not a good rental car company! If you have to use Fox rental car, you will learn patience from all of the terrible service without assistance!

Comment: I read the reviews of Fox Rent-a-car in Oakland, so I planned accordingly.I prepaid for a 4 door Jeep wrangler or similar Specialty Full SUV. I booked on Foxs website and prepaid because I wanted a particular vehicle and I wanted a smooth process.It wasnt smooth at all.The counter clerk juggled customers as they came in while simultaneously training the employee next to him. As he did this, a man in a blue shirt came in through the front door of the car rental terminal, walked up to the clerk and stuck a temperature device to his forehead and said all good before he disappeared into the office in the back.Is that the new manager? The clerk asked. The trainee shrugged. It was his third day. Turns out, he is the new manager.I was told my car wasnt available and was offered a Chevy Equinox instead. I had booked and paid for a full size SUV, so I declined.Its okay, the clerk said, if you can wait 20 minutes, well have one ready.20 minutes went by and he called me over, I got word from the yard, he said, and we wont have a Jeep Wrangler ready for 4 hours, so you can wait, or I can upgrade you to an Outlander. 2020 all black.I nodded. An upgrade sounded alright. I thought an Outlander would be a Highlander, but if you know cars at all, there is a big difference between a Mitsubishi Outlander and a Toyota Highlander.Paperwork in hand, I exited the car rental terminal. I walked along a long line of parked Wranglers, big hulking machines on the cusp of being ready to rent out. Then, I arrived at the parking-lot with available vehicles and I saw 3 SUVs, all Mitsubishi Outlanders. What an ugly vehicle. All the other vehicles were sedans and economy cars except for one red Toyota Highlander with someone inside it.I knew I was stuck. Accept the Outlander, take a sedan, or wait 4 hours for one of the Wranglers coming down the line.Inside the Mitsubishi, I reached down to move the seat forward and my fingers clutched a piece of plastic. I pulled it out and looked around the car. I couldnt tell where the piece of trim belonged.The rest of the SUV looked like it been the site of a frat party. Strange fluids, spilled on the cheap plastic interior by the previous inhabitants, had coagulated into a sticky mess. The backseat had a suspicious looking brown smear on it.I opened the cup holder in the front and it popped up askew, obviously broken. It had sand in it. There were over 30,000 miles on the 2019 vehicle. Definitely not the brand new 2020 upgrade I was promised.When I turned it on, the engine ran roughly. I drove to the kiosk to check the Mitsubishi out of the lot and handed the woman my papers. She walked around the vehicle and circled marks here and there. She was going to speed me through, hold on I said, theres a piece of plastic. I reached under the seat and pulled out the large chunk of trim and handed it to her. She shrugged, circled something on the paper and took the plastic away. I pointed out the center consul, demonstrated how it was broken and showed her the sand, its okay, she said.Are you sure? I said.Im positive she said.I drove through the gate disgruntled and defeated in that swerving rattle-box death trap of a Mitsubishi. There was so much play in the steering wheel, I felt like I was driving a 1987 Plymouth Fury. I checked the rear-view mirror and saw the new Manager had exited the lot behind me in that shiny red Toyota Highlander.The reviews that I read of Fox rent -a -car in Oakland prior to booking are 100% accurate. Though I tried to make the process easy and smooth by booking directly with Fox and prepaying, I still had a bad experience and my vehicle was downgraded. This branch is a joke and renting a car there feels like a roll of the dice, especially during this pandemic. Given the poor state of my vehicle and the hasty manner in which it was cleaned, if it was cleaned at all, I doubt proper sanitation methods were used to sanitize it. Not only is it a mechanical death trap. It could be a virus death trap as well.

Let me cover the number of issues that I have encountered since renting their vehicle.First I went to the Oakland Airport location to pick up the mid size SUV I prepaid for. When I got there the agent informed me that there were no SUVs available and she would call me when one becomes available. Instead of waiting at the counter I went home to get my belonging together for my trip and informed the agent I was doing so. Almost 2 hours past and I didn’t hear from her and couldn’t get in contact with customer service because the office was closed. Because of this I made my way back to the location and she informed me they they still didn’t have any SUVs. At this point I was very frustrated and already 2+ hours behind schedule so I agreed to taking an available Toyota Camry. My partner and I got in the car and immediately realized that the car was way too small for us.In the lot there were a few SUVs (most needed an oil change and one just needed to be clean). At the time I was so bothered by the whole situation that I decided to take the trashed (cups, bottles, cookies, and other debris all over the back seat. It also smelled of cigarette smoke.) outlander. After driving it home to Oakland I realized that I couldn’t bare the smell of the cigarettes so I decided to exchange it at the SFO location. They gave me a different SUV that was clean BUT also reeked of cigarette smoke. The smell was so unbelievably overwhelming that I had to return it and get ANOTHER vehicle. Upon receiving the THIRD SUV, that was finally cleaned properly, I was able to begin the trip I reserved the vehicle for.As I’m traveling to my destination there are numerous maintenance lights on the dash board that come on and go off automatically signaling the vehicle may need to be serviced. At this point I am incredibly disgusted and inconvenienced totally by this rental car experience. To add insult to injury I called the customer service phone number provided on my rental contract and after being told that there are 10 callers ahead of me and sitting on the phone for TWO HOURS, the automated operator came onto the line and said that your offices were closed for the day and ended the call. Getting in contact with customer service was TRASH. Due to the many issues I spent at LEAST 5 hours in total waiting to speak to a representative.I have never had such awful experience renting a vehicle in my life. If I were you I would rent from any other rental company and just pay the the extra amount of money for a piece of mind.

Not only was my reserved car not available, but they had one car available, which was a two seat sports car that basically had no back seat. I had to leave the car in the road entering the lot with the keys in it. It was a complete money-making scheme to force people to return cars early a day before. If you rent with Fox, you will not do it more than once.

Comment: I reserved a full sized car because my wife has painful neck and back issues and we needed the softer suspension/ride of a larger sedan. Upon arrival at the rental center we were told they were out of stock of full sized cars and upgraded us to a small SUV with a very stiff suspension and very uncomfortable seats. I asked what other choices were available and was told we would have to pay for a larger SUV as the only other option. The clerk at the rental counter was completely indifferent to situation and seemed reluctant to even engage in conversation, much less accommodate our requests. The small SUV we ended up with had numerous dents and scratches which the friendly woman at the checkout/inspection station was very helpful in documenting and insuring we would not be responsible for, hence the two stars instead of one. All told, Fox did not provide the vehicle we reserved or expected and the condition of the car we rented was poor, to say the least. Fox seems to be the least expensive of the larger rental companies at Oakland and judging from this experience, I can see why.

The one they gave us was smelling badly marijuana and smoker car, and Booster seats were not going down. we couldn’t stand the smell and had to return it right there. They helped very quickly. In that same survey I also checked off that I allow them to contact me regarding my experience and still havent heard anything. Also I still do not have the $25 refund come up on my credit card statement. Its been well pass the 5-7 business days usually these things take for processing. This company definitely doesnt care to reply or correct any wrong doings.TLDR: get everything in writing or youll get screwed over and charged extra when youre expecting a return.Didnt think that my experience would end so badly. I went in on Friday to pick up my SUV rental that I booked for 530pm. When I showed up not only did they not have the car available as stated during the time of booking, they only had a lower mpg dodge caravan available. They only had caravans. I really didnt want to wait the hour+ to see IF a SUV will be available so I chose to take the readily available caravan. The agent that checked us out at the counter was very personable and friendly so I felt really taken care of even with the mishap. He promised a brand new 2019 caravan with outrageously low odo. After going over the terms (ever heard of a $1k deposit thats immediately taken out of your bank card?) and agreement he noticed that we were supposed to return the car Sunday at 10pm. He asked if we could return it earlier say 630 or 7pm because if we did then he can get us refunded for a day rental since we checked out our car so late Friday evening - essentially wed get charged only for 2 days instead of the 3 we paid for. I thanked him for the info and told him well definitely try to do that! We get our car, odo definitely not as low as he stated but whatever, we left with the mindset to change our plans Sunday to make the 630pm deal.Come Sunday we ended up clearing our schedule and being able to bring the car back with the full tank of gas by 4pm. I get to the return lane and its packed up to beginning of the entrance with parked cars. I squeeze the car in the last spot right up after the blades at the entrance. I get out and theres no attendant. An agent pulls up right behind and quickly checks me out. Receipt is emailed to me and its hassle free. I ask her if the day refund will be made and if I need to do anything and she says she doesnt know anything about a refund but theres an early charge. She quickly directs me inside to the counter and tells me to speak with her manager. Confused, I check the receipt I just received in my email and noticed I was only refunded $975 of the $1k deposit. In my mind Im remembering how at checkout the dude was saying how in his years of working there no one has ever not had their full 1k refunded so Im thinking thats weird. I get to the counter and 2 agents are there. I explain my recollection of my conversation with the agent on Friday and they both looked apprehensive and confused. They said theyve never heard of a customer being refunded if they turned in the rental early and that the agent must have been confused with something else that day. I emphasized I remember clearly what I was promised and they told me I shouldve gotten that agreement of the refund in writing. Apparently customers just shouldnt trust their employees words. Fine, then its my fault for trusting them now Im stuck with an early return fee because I was trying to make the deadline some other employee promised me at the beginning. I asked for the refund on that fee and they thankfully obliged. Some bad math later and a couple minutes of keyboard punching I was given the $25 refund and the receipt reflecting that. Essentially a problem was created from no where that spiraled into a bigger mess.I wouldnt recommend this company to anyone nor will I use their services again.

They didnt have the sort of car wed initially reserved, but asked us what our primary concern was about a car (it was gas efficiency) and they got us into a great little Jetta that was a lot of fun to drive. We rented a car from them in Nov 2018 and returned it appropriately to their kiosk before they were open and placed the keys in the appropriate box. Come to find out 3 weeks later (via a text message) that they accused us of stealing the car! By Feb 2018 they would no longer update us on the situation and told us we could only get more information from the police (who also would not return my calls). I called today (August 2019) to get an updated police report and turns out in April 2019 Fox told the police that the car was reported stolen in error! Fox never told us the car was found and has yet to apologize for reporting us as thieves to the police. Comment: I had booked a rental car for 10am and I arrived at the rental desk at 1015am. Fox Rent A Car had the longest line up compared to the other companies. As I waited I watched others that came on the same shuttle bus as me pick their cars from other companies and leave. I waited in the line and watched the staff call up people that were sitting to one side. First clue I should have called an Uber right then. I waited until 1130am when it was my turn. The staff asked for my ID and credit card. As I handed them my ID, I said I have a reservation for 10am. As she rolled her eyes she said so do all these other people, there isnt any cars. I asked how long I would have to wait because some people had been waiting 45mins. I was told it could be 2mins, 20mins, or longer. I used Flight Hub to book my car rental and they said I need to speak with them regarding a refund on the insurance I prepaid, I bet that will be a fight to get back. Comment: Horrible service (mostly just slow, staff are okay but have zero empathy for how inefficient their reservation system is,) and definitely not the most impressive cars in the industry, but you get what you pay for and Fox will almost certainly be the cheapest option in Oakland. Be ready to wait a while at the counter (they have minimal staff and process customers very slowly), and dont expect to have the same impressive vehicle options of the major companies, but if you play your cards right youll get what you need for an excellent price. They probably make most of their money on fees and add-ons, so just be careful to make sure you only pay as much as your original quote (theyll try to tack on extras or charge for something stupid, but if you complain theyll usually reverse the charge. It looks like the CA departments of insurance is now forcing them to display a clear disclosure that customers DO NOT have to purchase their extra insurance and that their sales staff ARE NOT qualified to evaluate/recommend -- got a huge laugh reading the sign after years of resisting their aggressive sales tactics...

After i called the customer service and they sent someone to gave me a jumpstart of the van, but it doesnt working at all because the car starter(I dont know the specific name of that part) is broken, and that is 2016 van. So they made me call the customer service again, and they said someone will exchange the car for me as where i located. Then after 2 hours, there still no one come by for exchanging the car for me and i call them again that i want to cancel the car because it took them forever to come by; the place i located at only 6 miles away. When i try to cancel the car, they told me the company already sent someone for exchange the car and i will be end up be charging if i try to cancel the car. That is the worst car rental company i ever had. This is my first time renting a car from Fox and also my last time ever doing business with them. Yes they are cheap, but thats what you get with 10 dollar differences from other car rental company. Comment: I have rented Vehicle at Oakland Airport on Oct 5th 11:00 pm and had issues with the left front tire as it was wobbly and making noise while driving but could not return back immediately as it was pretty late for me .Hence called the next day around the airport and your customer service was not working had to call the Fox Rental at airport and was on call for 35 mins but it did not connect at all. They gave no explanation of what the prepaid addons were and didn’t let me read the full agreement until after I’d already signed. Essentially prepaid tolls turned out to be an extra $9 per day charge for the entire rental. When I asked the rep what it was she simply said I could go through the fast lanes on toll bridges. I asked which bridges had tolls. “All of them” she replied. We only went over one toll bridge and ended up paying $170 for it. The process of picking up the car was efficient and the customer service was great! Everything was explained to me thoroughly, including the fees and add-on options. The only potential snag was that I was initially given a mini-van. When I explained it was just me and I most definitely was not going to drive a minivan by myself down the PCH, I was given the only other option, which was a Kia Soul. Since I was pretty open in my preferences, it was fine. But for someone who might not be as flexible in their vehicular needs, it could have been an issue.

Comment: If I could rate this a zero I would!!!! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! We travel all of the time for our business and rent vehicles on an almost weekly basis. We have rented from Fox before without an issue. This was our first experience renting from the Oakland Airport Location as we usually fly into San Jose. Not only will we NEVER rent a vehicle from there again, we will not be using FOX in the future. Upon arrival at the location (it was late at night) the rental car we received was in poor condition. It appeared to have been in a fender bender and was still be rented. There were multiple scrapes and dings. The bumper was falling off and even taped in one section. My business partner picked up the car and was told it was the only option and wanting to get home took the vehicle. He was careful to point out all damage and marked it on the corresponding form. The next morning when he got into the car in the daylight he noticed a faint smell of cigarette smoke in the vehicle. Found cigarette burns on the seat and cigarette butts in the car. He then called customer service to let them know so that it could be noted on the record and he would not be charged. The 3rd rental day Friday after driving on the freeway and fear of the bumper falling off we contacted Customer Service who apologized for the state of the vehicle and instructed us to simply return it to the nearest location and exchange it for a new vehicle. We had an appointment in the city on Saturday and decided to do the exchange that day. Upon arrival at the location we were accused of the damage to the vehicle and told that we would never send a vehicle out looking like that Despite the fact we had the original damage form completely marked up and signed by the employee we were instructed to wait for the employee to get into work to solve the matter. Even went as far as accusing us of taping the bumper in an attempt to hide the damage. I have never been treated so poorly in my life. We also learned while at the location that the same employee had sent out another vehicle that night with a loose hood and that upon driving home that customers hood flew open and shattered the windshield. The manager was involved and we received the same disrespect from him. We attempted to contact Customer Service and unfortunately it was closed for the day. My business partner was belittled and accused of all of the damage. The employee was 45 minutes late for work and caused us to miss our appointment downtown and reschedule. After waiting almost 3 hours at the location the management came out and exchanged the car. No explanation. Not only was it ridiculous to rent a car out that was in that condition, but then to accuse us of the damage and waste our time and money and then be treated so poorly was the worst example of customer service I have ever seen!!! Upon contacting customer service today they agreed to refund 2 days of our rental a whopping $30 for a 10 day rental. Never will we EVER rent from FOX again.

Comment: If I could give 0 stars I would. I reserved a nice charger 2 months ago, was super pumped. Got there no charger so I went with a convertible mustang. After reviewing car I found the front passenger tire had a nail in it and the tires were bald as a babies butt. So we settled for a Chevy Malibu! The lady was very nice gave me $60 off. The story gets better!!! We are driving 4 hrs to our location. Keep in mind we left Baltimore almost 12 hours ago. We get 45 min into drive and all of a sudden the check engine light comes on. Wouldnt you know! Car dies I pop hood and oil is everywhere. This rental car place can kiss my ass I have been on hold now for 40:11 waiting to hear when someone can pick us up and drive us back to only have to rent another car. Will post more as I know more. This place can go to hell.

Comment: The worst experience we have EVER had with a rental car company. We had reservations to pick up a car around 11:30 PM. When we arrived (on time at 11:15) there were tons of people waiting both inside and outside the office and the woman at the desk had blocked the door with a chair and said she wasnt going to help anyone else because they close at midnight. A lot of people gave up and left to find another rental company. Since we needed a larger vehicle though, we couldnt find any other companies that would give us a similar rate so last minute. Most companies didnt even have any cars left. We decided to wait it out and see if the woman would decide to help us. Apparently she was new to the job and had been left alone by the other more experienced workers. It was taking her extra long to get through all the reservations. She had decided that she would only help the people inside the building and the only reason she decided to help us was because a nice man who worked at the exit booth convinced her to help us. We ended up waiting there until 1:30 AM but were finally able to get a car. We were the last people to leave. As we were leaving the woman was trying to hurry and turn off the lights and lock up before the next airport shuttle arrived! We do not understand why Fox Rental would leave one worker there who wasnt experienced. Also, why on earth do they close their office at midnight when all the other rental companies at the airport stay open until 2 AM? There were people with reservations to pick up a car after midnight that were being turned away. We will NEVER rent from Fox again. We tried calling them both during this incident and later when we needed to return the car but they either didnt help us at all or there was a language barrier and they couldnt help us. TERRIBLE, unprofessional company with very poor customer service!!

Comment: I had a great experience using Fox Rent a Car when renting a vehicle for 4th of July weekend.We reserved our car online and it was a smooth process and the person at the counter was very nice. He was friendly and polite, but not intrusive about our business. We were early so the car we originally agreed to was not available, but our car got upgraded for no cost. The car was nice and fairly clean, just a little messy and a few scratches here and there but they were marked down so no trouble at all.The prices at this location were fairly cheap especially compared to the rental prices near where we lived. The insurance cost was a little pricey, but it is better to be safe then sorry. They have a full to full policy for gas but to not worry about the trouble of refilling we used their prepaid gas program. The gas here was cheaper than near where we lived, but I recommend doing your research to see if this option was right for you.Once we went to get the car, they told us where to go, however there was just a mix up with the parking spot number so we went to the wrong car initially, but they were nice and showed us to the correct vehicle. Dropping of the car was also very easy and though we did not use it, they have a box for after hours drop off available as well.There is a shuttle running from the airport to the car rentals, however we drove and did not use the shuttle for this location. As a heads up, finding a parking spot in front of the rental was a little difficult so we just got dropped off by or ride.Overall, or experience was fairly pleasant. The staff were helpful And the process was quick and smooth for us. Although there were only minor hiccups, everything turned out fine. The car was good and drove well, although there were some blemishes and it wasnt one hundred percent tidy, I believe the price for the rental made up for it.

Comment: Have rented from Fox before with no issues. Arrived in Oakland last night, got a nice car. No problems. Drove less than 5 miles to hotel, parked it then got up this morning to leave and the car is dead. Husband called Fox and had been on hold for over 30 minutes! Finally someone came on the line. When my husband started explaining the situation she put him on hold again!!! Weve called AAA and will be returning the car. What happens then will determine if I change my rating but will probably never use them again.

Comment: I ALWAYS rent my cars from Hertz, but they (and pretty much everyone else) were booked. So I ended up with Fox.First, I had to wait an hour to get the car because they had no cars available to rent. Told me 15 minutes at check in. Why allow a car to be reserved for rental if you dont even have one to give?Car was not cleaned. There was trash in it and it had an overwhelming smell of smoke. They said I could wait to have it cleaned, but that it would be quite a while and suggested I just take the car. The girl at the counter told me that I could talk to someone tomorrow about it when I got back (she was the only one working again the next day!), but that I did get an upgrade. LOL. The car was terrible. If that was an upgrade, I would have been scared to see what the other would have looked like. Im assuming she was meaning in class, but it definitely wasnt that either. I reserved an intermediate car and got a Jetta.Huge dents and scratches all over the car. Looked like it had been in a major accident.I also didnt like how you do the walk through of the car yourself. I had to go through and mark everything down. Definitely mark every single thing you see. I would recommend taking video and pictures as well.They tried to say that if I didnt have the car back by 6am that they would charge me an extra $42. I didnt get the car until 10am. Thats not even 24 hours. Told me I could go back inside and ask someone, but there is no where to park at the rental center, so I had to call to fix the issue.Car sounded not so hot. I was a little nervous something would happen. Especially after having seen the guys in front of me get in their rental to leave only to stop immediately because there were emergency lights on regarding the brakes and the tire pressure!I mean this was a super cheap rental. $30. So in this case, its true that you get what you pay for. If you have to be somewhere by a certain time and are expecting a certain quality, I would say definitely go somewhere else. If youre just looking for a cheap car, pretty lousy service (which is understandable because if I was working at this super poorly run place, I wouldnt be too happy either!) and you dont have a schedule. This place will do.

Comment: I rented a Chrysler 300 and it was a beautiful car, quite fast and smooth to drive and less than 4,000 miles on this 2017 model. I had a different drop off location and the rental fee was much cheaper than others. Example: 11 day rental was $350 including drop off fee, Enterprise wanted $800+ for compact car, Dollar was $1,700+ for compact car. Anyway I was about to go buy a car for those prices! But Fox Rent-A-Car was easy to book a premium car at reasonable rates.Staff were very friendly, when I left the parking lot when the staff checked my paperwork he was super nice and said thank you for renting with them and it was very genuine, never really had that anywhere else so Im impressed.Customers were very demanding and some even shouting whilst I was there. So yes if you must have that Toyota Corolla definitely go with another rental company. Some of the more popular models did appear a bit more used and yes they do not have a huge selection at the Oakland CA location. For a premium model, great prices and those cars appear in good shape. Be flexible on the car you get. After all you are saving good money over the others. And it happens to all rental car agencies. I booked at Hertz once a SUV and ended up with some mini-Opel with a small engine. I was definitely not happy.Some cars are clean, some are not. Some cars meet your expectations while others dont. Ask what car choices you have and if you can go see them first. Make a strategy, have a few different bookings with different rental agencies and different classes then when its time to rent go see what car they have then go ahead with the best option for you. Most car rental bookings online have free cancellation or no credit card required so spend the extra time in advance to avoid the problems.I will gladly rent again and I recommend.

Comment: We reserved a car from Fox at the Oakland airport for midnight, but with the time change (NY - CA) it felt like 3 a.m. to us. The rental car lot is far from the airport - about 15 min. away. Fox wasnt even open for us to pick up the car when we got to the rental place! Why even allow a reservation outside of business hours???Luckily the helpful woman at National Car Rental was at work! She gave us a great deal ($4.00 more for a better car, excellent customer service, and oh yeah - being open! Not to mention no hidden fees - which I gather are part of Foxs routine). She got us on the road in minutes - we would have had to call an expensive cab and come back the next morning. She also subtly indicated that this kind of thing happens all the time with Fox Rental car. We were happy to give National our business instead and will not rent from Fox in the future. That was our first and last Fox rental.

Comment: ***DO NOT BE FOOLED. THEIR PRICES ARE FAKE*** They will lure you into booking with them by advertising prices just below what their competitors are listing. Once you arrive at the counter your car will not be available. They will offer to rebook you at a MUCH higher prices. When I got upset that my reservation was cancelled the rep said, Dont make me call the Sheriff again. Turns out she had already had to call the police earlier that day. 15 minutes later as I was easily renting a car from Payless, the Sheriff arrived. I thought that perhaps it was for me, but no, it was for the unfortunate people in line just behind me, their reservation was cancelled without explanation as well. Fox will book your lowball price knowing that they dont have a car for you. Then they will threaten (and actually) call the cops on you when you demand your car. Shameful business. Save yourself a headache and go with ANY other company.

Get outside to discover they didnt have ANY cars available(strange since I had a reservation...). Had to wait another 30 minutes for a car to be returned and cleaned(I am pretty sure they drove through a puddle on the road and called it good). Staff overall was extremely rude. I would never rent here again...

Comment: I reserved a midsized car a month ahead of time and paid in full except for $29+ fuel charge which I was to pay at the Oakland airport. When I got to the airport I had several things happen: 1. They did not have my car available. 2. They had no record of my payment. 3. They tried to charge me twice what I had already paid. After 2 hours of dealing with a rude salesperson, a slick talking manager and the third party that booked my car I finally got out of the Oakland Airport. 4 days later I returned the car and they tried to refund only $66 of the $150 deposit. After an hour I was given a receipt for the full $150 which took 5 days to credit to my account. Every person that came to the counter both times that I was there both coming and going had problems and were given the run-around. This is not a reputable company. I could see how people would get frustrated and just pay it because they had deadlines to meet and they really needed the car. If the price is too good to be true then its not. I would never rent from this company again or recommend it to anyone.

Comment: Ive now been on hold for 15 minutes waiting to find out what happened to my $150 deposit that should have been returned to me in 3-5 business days. It has now been 5 days and no refund. I hope I dont have as bad an issue with this as I did renting the car. The lady at the counter was nice but thats where the service stopped.When I got to the car lot, I couldnt find the car (the 13 in pink highlighter was not visible early in the morning). There was no one at the kiosk so I started wandering around looking for the car. A young girl got out of a car and asked if she could help me. When we found the car, she simply gave me the keys - no explanation of what was next or how to get out of the lot, etc.When I asked how to get out of the lot of another person, she said in a very snotty tone - well I need your paperwork. She walked around the car and said no damage - sign here. When I got to my destination and looked at the car, there were two big scratches and a small dent! - what do you mean no damage?Not very professional and except for the counter girl, not very friendly. Who knows how long before I get my deposit back - I am still on hold.Would NEVER recommend. Yes Enterprise is more expensive - because they actually hire people with personalities and brains.

Comment: If I could give this company zero starts, I would. We made a reservation weeks in advance, but when we got here they had no car for us. There were people waiting there for 2+ hours trying to get a car, and when they finally offered us one it was an SUV when we requested a compact economy car. Finally Enterprise traded a car so we could get one we originally wanted. The customer service was disappointing and they did not try to help resolve this issue. They also apparently cannot contact customers via the phone, so a toll was placed on our car and Fox did not contact us to pay it. Instead they paid it automatically and now are charging us a $15 processing fee. DO NOT rent here!!!!! Pay the extra money and go with any other company. I was highly disappointed.

The reps at the desk lied to us and told us that the cars were coming when they really had no cars in stock. This was ridiculous because how do you reserve a car if there is no car to reserve? Very bad customer service. Would not recommend renting from them unless you have all day to wait for a car you didnt reserve. This has happened to me 2X now. In Oakland, CA and Orlando, FL. Will never reserve again.

Comment: I would give them a -26 if I could. This place is ridiculous!!!! We waited for over an hour in line while the staff dealt with one frustrated customer. They could not locate 3 out of 4 customer reservations.That should have been a sign... but we needed a car and all other rental companies were sold out. I was asked to prove that I flew in that day in order to use a debit card OR I would need a credit check. Never again. Run, dont walk...run away from this company!

After waiting over an hour in line with dozens of other people, the guy behind the counter finally had the presence of mind to tell everyone that they only had two cars left to rent and would not be honoring reservations. Most people there that night needlessly wasted well over an hour, but they were the lucky ones. The car we got was too small to fit our suitcases because they didnt have the size we reserved in stock, the windshield wipers didnt work which is a terrifying safety issue in the Bay Area, and the battery died the first time we parked the car.

Comment: One star is not even low enough for this experience. First I had to wait in line 45 minutes to even speak to an agent. Then, its finally my turn...I get up to the counter and immediately the woman behind the counter starts turns away and starts talking to someone else literally right in the middle of my transaction. Her counterpart proceeds to invite the next customer up behind me. I finally get helped and Im told there are no cars available, ***despite making a reservation***. Had to cancel my reservation, pay through the nose for a last-minute booking next door, and nearly missed an important meeting. Will NEVER use Fox again and suggest you dont either if you consider your time and customer service valuable.

Comment: I read all bad reviews AFTER getting a car with Fox. I was waiting for trouble before having to return the car. Fortunately, none came. The car we got had 3 miles on it. Literally, brand new! No complaints there! Great gas mileage. We drove from Cupertino to Petaluma and back and forth between SF and Sausalito a handful of times. Never bought gas. The staff was friendly. I did NOT like the $150 deposit hold. I cant remember that happening with any other car rental in the past. It was returned to my card within a few days. Hopefully theyve gotten their act together.

Comment: Fox Rental Car was a HUGE disappointment! Even before booking our flight we called to make sure they would wait in case our flight was late. We were assured there would be no problem. We called again the DAY OF our trip to remind them our flight landed 35 minutes before they closed, again we were assured there would be no problem. Our flight landed a few minutes early and we wasted no time getting out to the shuttle pick up. The sign said shuttles run every 10 minutes so we were relieved! Indeed the shuttle did NOT come for 20 minutes. Add that to a 10 minute shuttle ride to the car rental building, and we arrived at the counter at THREE minutes past midnight! The counter was closed. An agent at the rental counter next door said to go behind the counter and knock on the door because he was still there. Upon knocking, the light quickly switched off and the back door slammed shut. Now on the phone with customer service, who informed me that location closes at midnight. I told her we called TWICE to confirm that they would wait, and that the shuttle was the reason we arrived three minutes late. She quickly informed me the shuttle was operated by the airport and they had no control over that. I asked her what I should do, sleep in the rental building? Her response was the counter reopens at 6:00am! Are you kidding me??? We still had an hour drive to our location and we live in the eastern time zone so we were already tired, and we had no car!! A car that was supposed to cost us $100 for five days. Now forced to use a rental company that was still open, because we didnt have a prior reservation, they wanted to charge us over $1000 for the week. FOX RENTAL CAR will never get my business...EVER! If its the last car on earth, I will walk before I rent from them!

Comment: Long wait for a car, when one was finally offered, it reeked of smoke. Rather than prolong the agony, we accepted it. When we returned it the night before it was due in order to avoid the hassle of turn-in with an early flight, we were charged an extra day. When we read the fine print, it was in there but it was actually 24 hours early and we were less than 12. A friend of ours had a similarly bad experience at the same site so rather than fight it, I decided to just spread the word. Almost all the workers seemed stressed and unhappy, and I think I know why. I have had reasonable service at other sites but when I return to Oakland, I will pay a little more for a reputable company.

Comment: Yes, I did give this company five stars. We rented a car from Oakland airport for 3 days with full coverage insurance. It cost us about $430. We drove from San Francisco to Las Vegas where we dropped it off. We did not have to wait either to pick it up or to drop it off. There were a couple of scratches on the car and it wasnt very clean but it did save me about $300 dollars comparing to a couple of other rental companies we were looking at. I am pleased and didnt encounter rude service whatsoever. Reading all the comments I was expecting much worse but turned out to be a great experience overall. They delivered on all the basics: a car that drove and was reliable, fast check in and check out and our $100 safety deposit which was refunded right back to our credit card.

Comment: Just another terrible experience with Fox. Yet again I arrive for a 6pm reservation and no cars are available! The manager had to run around the airport and negotiate with other companies to match my rate. I waited another hour for this to be resolved. Fox is a terrible run company and customer service is very poor with zero sympathy for your inconvenience. Do yourself a favor and dont take the bait for the cheap rate like i did and let this company crumble to the ground like it should. Car companies in a 3rd world countries are of better quality than FOX.
