I really like this airport it’s pretty and clean and security is fast and efficient. Their bathrooms are always clean and they have large stalls in the women’s restrooms which is great if you have a carry on. I like the overall design of the airport too. The drop off and pick up is In the same place so it’s not complicated to navigate in and out of the place.
Main concourse had both men’s restrooms closed for cleaning at the same time. One wasn’t marked, so you had to walk all the way down to find it was blocked off. Nasty employees cannot coordinate.Everything closes for food at 7:00pm or before. Last call at the main bar is 7:00pm.Clearly this is a poorly run cornfield county operation. Dependent on your final destination, DTW may be a better airport with a slightly longer drive.
Waited on picking up my aunt and there were NO food or drink venues. You have to go through airport security check-in to get to the food courts. There are a couple small vending machines, one for snacks and one for drinks. If you want coffee . . . . .good luck. I hope they will bring those food venues back to regular access for those waiting to pick up passengers.
On this particular trip I happened to arrive on location about five hours early. I didn’t plan it that way. Initially the boarding process had been scheduled to start around 1pm. It just so happened that the flight to which I was assigned graduated, by intervals, to ever later departure times. The first three delays weren’t of much concern to me, as I’d reasoned I’d still have time to make my connecting flight(s). However, in the time between delay four and then five, the undulations of the rest of my trip began to take on their true shape. The details I find important follow.First, and to my heart’s joy, the perceivable attitude of the general population of which I was now merely a single member was a special species of patience. There were comments made which could not have been resisted, of course; precious witticisms from one man of business to another. Obviously spending the better half of a beautiful afternoon waiting in a terminal, only to watch it pass irrevocably through the window, will cause most of us thinking, time-bound animals a modicum of grief. But ultimately not a voice of agitation was raised, and we the people sat contentedly with our phones, books, partners, concessions.Second, upon receiving the information that it would no longer be possible to reach my final destination by the end of the day via commercial flight, I was offered a meal voucher, and a night stay at the Hilton Crystal City hotel in Arlington, VA—an apparent boon, at least if you’d asked me at the time.(If I could review the GRR Great American Bagel Bakery separately, I would, and in doing so be tempted to break my personal rule of never using this platform to leave odious remarks about certain types of unfortunately predictable establishments, alas…)Third, and finally, I’d like to note of the persons responsible for directing, interfacing, rebooking, and generally dealing with the public on this front, how practiced they must be to maintain such an amicable presentation. Question after question, delay after delay, to every approaching would-be passenger, the two people were steadfast in their charm, and frankly more helpful than many other persons of equal title whom I’ve encountered at other airports under similar circumstances.Conclusively, travel is travel. And the price payed for such relative luxury and ease corresponds disproportionately when one compares such a multitude of factors. One asks the question, “how else would I get there?” or, “what are my options?” or, “is it even necessary?” or, and with a sense of impersonal menace, “how much longer can it possibly continue?”
GRR: the Gerald R Ford airport is the Best Kept Secret, a great, convenient and manageable place to fly in and out of where I have not had any issues. We have family drive 1.5 hours to fly out of GRR. Definitely give yourself at least 1+ hour to get thru security and to your gate IF you already have your E scan tickets/ boarding pass. If you need to check in, gets tickets and check baggage, then allow yourself 1.5 hours for time. And whether you get dropped off or park on-site, it doesnt take long. Long term parking is a quick walk and convenient. Highly Recommended
We love the viewing area. We have been going there since my son was 5 and he now is 16 and we still go about once a week. It is a great time to hang out and watch planes. His love for planes now has him attending west Michigan aviation. Thank you GRR for the great viewing area.
GRR is a good airport in terms of convenience if you live in the GR area. The prices are usually $150-200 more expensive per person for flights to the same destination compared to if you leave from ORD or DTW. There is a small amount of food choices, which is also why it’s getting a 4-star rating. Security when I fly is usually at a minimum, but I don’t have to deal with it due to having TSA precheck. They don’t have CLEAR at this time and there has only been one incident where I thought we may have needed it to get to our flight on time for my husband. The drop off and pick up is the same location and it’s always fast and easy, 5 stars there for sure.
Such a clean and updated airport. I was able to find a nice waiting area before I went through security. I had time to spare so I wondered around. Upstairs is this nice cozy quiet area overlooking the tarmac. Not many people were there during the Saturday midafternoon I was here.I enjoyed my quiet time here. Great waiting/lounging areas.
Very busy for 4am. Lines were long. People that werent called to board got on anyway. I thought that was very rude as people with challenges had to stand in line far longer than they should have. It was very unorganized at the gate. This was for my Delta flight. Sad. 😬
Im comparing GRR with DTW or ORD. But there is no comparison! No crowds, no waiting, no 3 hour arrival to deal w TSA, no waiting on bags, no hassle w car rentals. Just a stress free procedure going or coming. If it is a little more $$ it is certainly worth it. Marvelous!
Could’ve been stranded or worse. Took a flight to Augusta and the gr flight was so late they even ate up their leeway time. God sent and gladly the attendants in Philadelphia waited for us knowing it’s a dangerous place fir women and children. GR flight attendants didn’t show urgency either. Landing late taking off late no inclement weather. Get it TOGETHER and STOP slacking to stay in business or your income will be eaten in LAWSUITS
Very nice for a smaller airport, however, the business lounge needs some air flow. Every time I fly through the place is stale and hot!Other than that, easy access to parking and rental cars. Good TSA Pre lines and friendly staff all around.9/17/2018 - Thank you for your response. The business lounge I was in is on the B Side Terminal, right next to the kids play area.
Plane was on time until we boarded and waited 1hr for bags to get loaded. What a joke on the busy spring break weekend. This comes every year and you would think they would plan for it. Pick a different airport during busy weeks. Canceled flights and a spring break starting two days later because of airlines and now airport staff shortages.
There are not may places to get food at the gates like there is in ATL. Also, you have to look for people from your flight to figure out which luggage carousel to get your luggage from. Every time I go here they never update the screens that tell you which flight the luggage carousel is servicing, and my app didnt tell me either.
It is small town friendliness with big town services. Extremely clean and spacious. Services are top notch. Parking is convenient. If I could make any changes, I would provide small shuttles from parking to the inner workings of the terminal. There is considerable walking for people who are older or have difficulty with ambulation.
Always a delay and rude security rushing people or making them keep going around until the person we are waiting for. There needs to be a longer drop of and pick up lane and or specific lane. Too much money being spent to still be cheap or cause more issues for passengers or there rides. Simply ignorant process still from the past.
A mess at carousel #2 12/27 flight UA 6059. Landing 8:31pm. The carousel had alot of suitcases from previous flights just setting on it. When our flight suitcases were to arrive it got jammed up. A passenger tried to be helpful and pull off the other suitcases from previous flights was stopped because of security reasons. It was just a mess. The airport didnt have enough personnel. Sorry for everyone. Airport and passengers.
Im wheelchair bound and the Front of the airport when you first walk in (I dont remember the actual name). They were extremely nice and friendly. The pat down at the second stop was careful and did not make me feel uncomfortable. The woman who did the pat down was really nice. Tried really hard to not hurt my leg. And the boarding pass people were also friendly and knowledgeable. Our experience was great! We will definitely fly Allegiant again and tell family/friends.Thank you.
We enjoyed the observation deck at the airport. Its a great quiet place to hangout. The airport was nicely decorated for Christmas. GRR is always great compared to larger places. They could add a reasturante is the main waiting area for guest and families before leaving , like the one they used to have.
TSA GRR today informed me that I did not have to take 2 computers out of carry-on. Then, after I walked through, they decided, without alerting me, that they would enter my bag, take out both computers, without me watching, and go through my bag. They never informed me that they would do this and they did it on the entry side of the Leidos units. Several people went thru before my computers were returned and my bag was given back to me. Usually, when they check a bag, they do it on table in front of me. This is not a proper process. GRR TSA should be up to par with common procedures at other airports.
I think the Ford facilities have greatly improved over time but as the airport has become busier, the support just isn’t there to make the airport reliable or efficient. If you arrive late at night (especially after mid nite) it may take an hour or more to get your bags. Leaving early in the morning during the winter is a disaster if you have to catch a connecting flight. My daughter and husband were supposed to leave early on Feb 26, 2022 on American to Belize on a well deserved vacation but the flight was 2 hrs late departing because there was only one crew to de-ice the planes. They missed their connecting flight in Dallas. They were then flown to Miami where they had to stay overnight and eventually got to Belize the following afternoon. I will not take a flight out of Ford on the early am if I have a connecting flight. We fly the night before to our connecting flight and stay over nite and catch our connecting flight the next morning. It should not have to be this way. Or we’ll fly out of Lansing or other airports if we have to leave early am in the winter. Ford needs to up its game. Until then, I’ll look for every reason NOT to fly out of Ford.
No de-icing equipment available for 6:12am flight today, and baggage handlers minimal for a full flight. Missed our connecting flight in Miami as a result. Have extra expenses of probably around $200 and no time to hit the grocery store at Marsh Harbor Bahamas or the regularly scheduled ferry to Green Turtle Cay as a result of late in the day arrival.
Made two trips out of GRR in the last 30 days. Both times departure time was delayed, one time causing a missed flight. Both were due to the planes not being able to be pushed out of the docking area. One time they were not able to get the plane unhooked from the aircraft. The next time they did not have equipment or personnel to run the equipment to get the plane pushed back.
There was no one here for this visit. Staff was awesome. Ill update next visit.Ive lived my whole life in NJ. Minutes from Newark airport. Ive used Newark airport hundreds of times. Everyone who works there is mean and terrifying. Its an awful place with awful staff. This airport is the complete opposite. The staff is so friendly youd think they were old friends. Moving to this state has so many benefits over new Jersey. This airport is definitely one of them
Ive been flying in and out of GRR for the past year and a half for work on an almost-weekly basis, and this is a great regional airport. All the major airlines serve it, as well as Southwest and a couple of budget carriers. There are nonstops to most of the major carriers hubs in the East and Midwest. Compared to Kalamazoo or Lansing, its worlds easier to book a reasonable itinerary from GRR -- youre not tied to a single destination per airline like the smaller airports.AND, the newly renovated terminal is gorgeous! Central TSA area thats built for the volume, as well as new food and shopping choices...its really been nicely done. And I love entering the air travel system through a smaller airport. From pulling into the garage, I can park, walk in, clear security and make it to my gate in 15 minutes, generally.
Its fairly well maintained, for the time I was there, staff that I ran into, were curteous & efficient.Its.. an airport, what else is there to say about it. *shrug*Updated...Same as before, courteous staff, clean... What mores there, to say.Its an airport... Seen 1, seen em all.
Wasnt at airport but the viewing area park is very nice place for watching planes. We take a take out meal to enjoy at a picnic table3/16/22 & 3/23/22 flew America Airlines from GRR to Dallas then to Cozumel. This airport is SO much cleaner than other airports we were at. Even smells clean. Staff & TSA are very helpful and friendly
This small but accompanied Airport in Grand Rapids is just a great place. Not super busy as major airports but very clean, friendly staff and just a beautiful place. All sorts of flights coming and going to multiple places .I always use GRF when possible. Love this atmosphere here and place in general. Give it a try for all your travels needs
Flew in and out using Allegiant and loved this airport. So very clean and efficient. Counter staff were so friendly when we checked in even with the airport being quite busy. TSA security were wonderful, friendly, but also very efficient and making sure they were doing what they need to do. At the gate the staff made everyone know the expectations of the passengers and also their requirements. In a friendly informative way.We are telling everyone that we talk to about this trip how great Grand Rapids- Gerald R. Ford airport is.
Great Airport to get in and out if allows drop off and pick up in front of Airlines ticket counters. Parking ramp so close to terminal. Easy rental pick up and drop off again right next to terminal best rental car pick up and drop off in the country. Has staff inside of parking ramp for fast pick up and return. No charge in and out if rental area👍🇺🇸
We got a call from airline told them I was coming up the ramp I was 2 terminals down and they closed doors on us after saying they would wait got moved to net flight which hade 3 delays for 2 hours sat on tarmac for 1h 50min waiting to taxi out. This is a joke should never happend.
I was stuck at the airport with my one year old for 3 hours because my sisters flight was delayed & it was frustrating it kept getting pushed back later at such short notice when I had to drive over an hour to pick her up. On the bright side though, my phone battery was almost dead & I was able to charge it at the info center. I do feel there shouldve been some sort of accommodations/food/water provided since I had not planned to be there for 3 hours with a toddler.
The Ford Airport is always a great place to start a trip. Everyone is friendly and even when its busy its not that busy. Its clean and there are a few places to grab a snack if needed. I have traveled to many places and can say that Im very happy to have Ford as my hometown airport.
Sparkling Clean and about empty at 7AM on a Saturday! Everyone is required to wear a mask AT ALL TIMES! There was no line for security! Nothing was open Before Security to the Concourse for visitors! Not many places to sit but there are a few tables spaced nicely apart. As far as food or even Starbucks nothing is opened. There are vending machines for snacks and drinks outside of security. I did not travel beyond this point today.
Nice, clean just a bummer you have to show up so early for flights now. Spent more time waiting to get on the plane than we did at check-in and security. Nice waiting area very convenient set up for using laptop to get some work in. Overall great experience compared to Chicago or Detroit.
Great smaller airport. We basically walked from the gate, picked up our luggage and walked to the car rental counter but it was very easy to do so. It was clean and not too crowded. Our luggage came quickly and the rental facility was onsite in a garage just outside the door.
Very well layed out airport. I mostly drop off and pick up here and it couldnt be easier. The facility is clean and efficient. I have flown out of here as well and the staff is helpful and professional as well. The viewing area is a great place to wait for flights as it has restrooms and security driving through all the time.
The economy lot was closed when we arrived and there was no signs indicating where else to park or parking prices of other lots. We went to the long term parking thinking it would be less expensive. When we pulled in, it was $18/day! No discount or compensation for the fact that economy lot wasnt an option. This is a ridiculous amount to have to pay for parking! We like that normally the GR airport is customer friendly and easy for arrivals and departures, but this started my trip off on a bad note. Very disappointed.
The best part of this airport is that all the personnel (employees) are very friendly and helpful!I have spoken with several today with different questions and EVERYONE has been so as NICE and helpful! Every airport has an energy to it and this one has a REALLY GOOD one!Thank you Grand Rapids Gerald Ford Airport!! Love flying in and out of here!!I
What a great hometown/international airport! Good amenities (shops and restaurants), TSA really had their act together. Security was tight, efficient, yet compassionate. Rental cars are an easy walk from baggage claim. We will fly into GRR whenever we travel to see our west Michigan family and friends.
Very disappointed in the new design. The upper cafe in the A terminal is gone, you can’t even buy a newspaper anymore. There are only two options for food, Founders and Starbucks. The wait due to lack of other options is horrible. I’m very disappointedOn a positive note, parking and TSA are still outstanding.
The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is a well maintained and clean facility with very friendly staff. My husband and I always look forward to flying in and out of this airport for our Michigan family visit trips.Security is usually a breeze, even when it is busy. They have a few restaurants and beverage places, and plenty of seating for longer layovers.Compared to some other international airports (Im looking at you Denver), travel is relatively stress free and easy.
Nice place to stay. World class golf across the street. Quality beds and linens. We were a bit bummed by our handicap accessible room with a wand shower that was frustrating to use. We did not request this room type. The room service iceberg wedge was great. Wi-Fi never worked for our two night stay. Had maintenance drilling and banging for at least an hour. I get it they need to fix their rooms and it was midday, but that was the time I came back to the room for a little snooze.
Always fairly quick getting through security, as expected for a smallish regional airport. I always check-in via the app of whatever airline Im flying with, and never check a bag, both of which may slow down the experience slightly, so I cant speak on that aspect.Once beyond the TSA checkpoint youre greeted with and easily navigable terminal peppered with the usual selection of overpriced and somewhat regionally specific tourist shops and general newsstand type vendors. Nothing to write home about on that front. Theyve probably got something for you if youre hungry or forgot some necessity, but youre gonna pay up big.All in all, for an airport, there are very few Id rather be forced to fly out of than GRR. Its usually a breeze. 5 boarding passes out of 5.
We arrived one hour and 30 minutes before our American Airlines flight to Philadelphia on the way to Amsterdam. Employee named Ellary told us that we required a negative covid test despite being vaccinated. (She then proceeded to show us the screen where it clearly said otherwise) We spent the next 30 minutes sprinting to a rapid test center and paid $330 for a test. When we arrived back at the counter 4 minutes before our check in time ended we were told that we did not need a test after all. We barely made it to our flight, otherwise a 10 day vacation would have been out the window. Ellary needs to be properly trained and reprimanded.
We were so disappointed the parking shuttle never came around again. After a long day of travel, gathering our bags, we just missed the shuttle. We needed to walk to the lot, drive around for our bags. Granted it was a slow night but still......5-10 more minutes of the drivers time couldve saved us unnecessary hassle.
I like that GRR is small, quick and logically laid out. There is, as others have said, lots of construction. But thats to be expected for an airport in a growing city.Ive been flying out of GRR for years and have yet to find a destination that I cant get to from GRR. Of course there are connections, but that happens on almost every flight unless youre going to a hub city.Staff is always friendly and quick to help.New on this trip is the Kent District Library bookshelf where you can take a book or leave a book. Its a really cool idea for travelers, you pick a book off the shelf and youre on your way - no checkout necessary!
I love this airport!. I generally fly into Michigan a few times a year to visit family, and Ill pay extra just to fly in/out of here. Its always impeccably clean and all of the airport staff is super nice, lines for anything are never too long. Its come a long way in the 18 or so years Ive been using this airport and Im so very impressed with all the improvements theyve made and continue to make. Bonus- the car rental places are just outside of the airport connected to the parking garage, no stinky car rental shuttles for me.
A bad experience, I was completely frisked down.My carry on was turned inside out. I must have looked like a drug dealer. The TSA did not return my $50 leather belt. They could have brought it (my belt) to my departure gate where I was, they did not. After all the trouble, TSA expected me to run back and get my belt. When exhausted, it is difficult to travel at my age.
Quick small airport close to the city. Mostly always clean with friendly staff & an efficient process in place. Recently many establishments within the airport have been closed because of the minimal traffic coming through but hopefully will be back to fully open again soon
Love this airport! It is small and cozy. Security has not been long and the remodel is really nice. Whenever I get a chance, I choose the convenience of flying out of GR. One downside of a small and cozy airport is the amount of flights or times. Not as much as a variety compared to larger airports. I have noticed some more direct flights recently and hopefully that continues :)
Our flight on Allegiant Airlines was late leaving by over and hour (due to not having enough ground crew). Then on our return trip- we sat on the ramp for an hour and a half due to....... yup, not enough ground crew. Absolutely abysmal service and quality. Never again will I utilize this airport.

2022-02-20A great regional airport in terms of ease of access and flight options. Plenty of parking and the terminal is clean and well maintained. Easy to get in and out, although sometimes people take liberties by parking their cars too long in the arrival area, clogging up the pickup area for passengers.

2022-05-27This airport is organized, clean and comfortable. The TSA security was the kindest and most polite we have ever experienced. They totally make this a number one choice for airports in Michigan! Its an easy location and easy parking. The airport is well laid out and easy to find where we needed to go. Highly recommend using this airport! You will not be disappointed.

2021-11-02Small lil airport but had a good set of spots to wait for the plane. Enjoyed some Founders beer while we waited. Nice and easy to get through security, seemed they had more TSA than larger airports to get through the gate.

2022-01-01Its an airport, and to be honest Im not sure how much control they have over my air travel experience. Staff was stern yet sympathetic in enforcement of safety policies toward my young toddler. I enjoyed a discount on parking due to the closure of the economy lot. The north lot is a great place to park. Unlike in other airports, all my luggage arrived seemingly intact to baggage claim. Really a great little airport if you are willing to have a lay over flying in or out of west Michigan.

2021-11-28National always treats me like a king, willing to upgrade me at the drop of a hate for no additional cost to me.The parent company, Enterprise, does not recognize me as an Emerald Club member since 2010. The Enterprise counter staff is not receptive to what I need in a rental as a handicap.person, and tries to put me into a car that is way too small for a high premium cost; making it cost prohibited for me to upgrade.WITH NATIONAL, everyone that works there has me in mind from the reservation, including any changes I make in their user friendly app, to my dropping off the vehicle when I am finished with the rental. There are never any extra or surprise charges. I feel like a king as an Emerald member. Thank you so much for your exceptional customer service National!

2021-08-24Absolutely love going to the look out point and watch the planes take off and land. They have done a lot. I hadnt been there fir years. They added on the parking lot. Have picnic tables. One of our favorite places to go especially when we have the grandson.

2022-04-26Plane landed at 11:42, now 12:24all Allegiant passengers still waiting for bags (or just an announcement - intel on status). Two other airlines landed and bags delivered. Many scratching their heads?Must be break time for the baggage crew?Is this Allegiant or GRR dragging their feet?Nonetheless if this keeps up the flight from Florida will have been quicker than transferring bags from a plane to a conveyor belt 100 feet away.

2022-02-28The flight attendants here do their best and while I have had issues with flights, that has nothing to do with the airport. This airport is very clean, has a kids play area, and I have never had a bad experience at this airport. Keep it up flight attendants! Thank you much for making our vacations safer!
