Here are the pros and cons. Con, the waitress we had a bit of a attitude. She gave us a attitude about our complaints about the restaurant being cold. Con the food is just ok. The restaurant was very short staffed. Pro, the restaurant is clean. The restaurant has very reasonable prices. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
Food is absolutely amazing! The shrimp scampi is phenomenal, and the fillet mignon was the best Ive ever had! Highly recommend. And the pumpkin cheesecake is to die for! Fred the owner is wonderful, great staff, great chefs, and great atmosphere. Will absolutely go back.
This was my first time here, and I must say the experience was amazing!!! I highly recommend dining at this establishment. The wait staff was very friendly, and of course the food was amazing! You cant go wrong with anything you order here. Table side Caesar salad!!!! Cant wait to go back!
Yesterday we came to Golden Eagle for Mothers Day dinner; what a great experience. Ashley was our server and she was very personable, gave great service, and was very prompt in delivering our food. My wife had the prime rib (as did I) and it was delicious! My oldest son had the childrens cheeseburger and it was huge and very well cooked; my two year old had the kids macaroni and cheese and we were very impressed as it wasnt the boxed stuff hastily prepared in the kitchen but real, honest to goodness, made from scratch and tasted wonderful. This is our third time here and every time has been a great experience; you cant ask for much more than great food, great service and a great atmosphere and they delivered. We will be back again.
We have been going here since about 1986. We eat during all these years our most favorite: filet mignon medium, a Cesar salat, freshly prepared from the excellent staff and the best...... dessert banana flambé. The best about the Golden Eagle, every time we eat, the steak was fantastic, outstanding, it is unbelievable hard to be consistently great over 30+ years and not fail once. CongratulationsWe just took friends here that had never been and it was super. Super service, Fred’s team is the greatest. We will be back again. Thank you!
Showing its age, but a perennial favorite! Best choices here, Steaks, Clam Strips, Fried shrimp and sandwiches. Not a fan of the pasta dishes. Some wait staff friendly, one or 2 of the old timer wait staff...not so much. Owner present...will seat you. A decent old school value.
Still a hot spot in the neighborhood for great food, service & drinks.Fun sitting at the bar & watching the efficient cocktails being made.Always multiple specials every night in addition to a full menu. For a treat, have the ceaser salad made for you & a friend at your table, the way it should be made - from scratch!
Excellent food with prompt, proper service. We had the Rack of Lamb and Prime Rib specials and both were high quality and done as requested with nothing added to camouflage the meat. The chefs obviously know their way around the kitchen and the front of the house is well run, nothing seemed phoned in. The vibe is old school but that is meant in the best way possible. Cant wait to come back.
Havent been here in a couple years but wanted a nice place to celebrate my wife Ashlee getting hired into GM and this place before covid was always excellent and to no suprise they still are!! Got the chicken marsala and wife got chicken Alfredo and both were AMAZING!! Only place I know where chicken Alfredo doesnt just taste like normal chicken Alfredo. It has their unique flavor and its amazing! Also their French onion soup is one of the best of many places I get it from (as I order it everywhere) friendly staff, clean and cozy atmosphere. Dont hesitate to stop in and have a bite to eat. Awesome place!!
I have been coming to Golden Eagle for 25 years. This has been my favorite restaurant hands down since I was 21 yrs old! Ive always had the best top notch service, and the food is consistently AMAZING!!!!! Even though its about a 45 min drive for us Its worth the trip. We come out as often as we can. It surprises me that we continually see the same waitstaff over all these years. This to me really speaks volumes about how they take care of their employees and thus their employees take care of their customers. The owner is always there, and hes so friendly and caring. Its refreshing to see a person who truly enjoys his customers and business. Forget the franchise restaurants!! This is the place to go for Great Food, Great Service and a Great Atmosphere!!!!
We hadnt been here for a couple of years and dont know why this fell out of our rotation! A great, casual, fine dining experience.. The food and service were excellent! My wife had the veal and I had the walleye. She also had the clam chowder and I had the French onion soup. Both were great! They have a full bar and a unique ambiance. Highly recommend for a nice evening out!!
Fast and friendly service especially for a large dinner party on Valentines Day. Food was solid as always. The kids love getting a bread basket and we really like having soup or salad with our meal. My son says its the best French Onion soup he ever had although Im still not convinced. Steaks and prime rib were a little dry without getting extra sauce or blue cheese crumbles like we usually do, but the Shrimp Scampi was spot on and the littlest one loved her wings.
A hidden gem.The restaurant is tucked away in a shopping plaza. This place is fantastic. Ive been coming here since my childhood. It has an old school feel with a bar where servers still call for service and write all the checks out by hand. The food is delicious. They usually have a great selection of specials, but dont overlook the hamburger sandwich if youre a fan of those. Also recommend the Bananas Foster for dessert. The crowd is generally older, but I see families in here often as well. If you come on a Friday or Saturday around 6-7pm expect to wait, but it clears out around 9 when the older folks head out.
Nice quiet atmosphere and good food. There are a few menu items that really stand out like the shrimp scampi but for the most part its your typical dimly lit steakhouse with exactly the menu youd expect. I cant say Ive ever been blown away but Ive never been let down either.
This place is wonderful! The food is truly amazing always cooked to perfection. The only thing better then the food is the fabulous wait staff. We were so well taken care of, they were attentive and prompt. I would recommend this place to anyone. The filet medallions were wonderful!
Excellent experience! Kori was our server and very professional. He made some wonderful suggestions from the specials list that certainly delighted us. Even on our 2nd bottle of wine he was still very charming and attentive to us. The food was terrific and we wanted to try the dessert selections but were stuffed to no end! There is always next time though! Highly recommended.
Place was pretty empty, yet they sat us in a booth that had the server station overlooking it. So we spent the whole meal with the servers looking over our table and chatting - we felt like we had an audience the whole meal.Portions were small, the server only came back once after bringing our meals. The barley soup was so salty I couldnt eat it, and the server just took away the full bowl without a question. Yes, I could have said something, but for the money I expect more attentive service. My wife said her salad was good and the home-made dressing was excellent. My tenderloin with portabella was very good, but the portion was minimal - three little chunks of meat.Terrible value, bad service, decent food (except the horrible soup). My wife remembered this place from many years ago as very nice, but apparently its gone downhill in the ensuing decades.
My daughter and I stopped in for lunch over the weekend. First, the hostess was less then friendly. We asked for a booth instead of a small table and she seemed annoyed and treated us like we were a burden. We sat for while before a waitress came over. We placed our orders off the main menu because we were not given a list of daily specials. During the meal, I waived down the waitress and asked for ketchup.....she never returned and I ended up taking it off another table. Then later, I asked for more water for my daughter.....she never returned. When we were ready to leave and got the bill, I brought these issues up......she just walked away with no apology. With all this being said, we will not return. Also, we will not refer Golden Eagle to family, friends or co-workers.
Salmon dinner was good, it is always good. My husband and I always go in there to share salmon dinner and tonight was the first time we were charged an extra $2 for sharing. We are 76 and 80 years old, dont eat that much and also I am on weight watchers so have to watch portion control. We will not go back!
I wish I had known about the place earlier. Its great, they have a big menu and everything I have ever order has been very good. From Burgers to salads to pasta dishes to steak and ribs. Its perfect for whatever mood you are in.The Chicken Caesar salad is excellent and really really BIG.
Went for a memorial luncheon. Due to dietary factors we were not able to eat much of the offerings at this event, however, the food we were able to enjoy was wonderful. We have been on another occasion where we could choose our meal based on dietary needs and we were thrilled about the taste and portion sizes.
Continued favorite in Rochester. Great specials, great food, great service. A little difficult to see from the road but worth the effort. Its in a shopping center so if you go at peak time parking can be annoying but is always available. Peak time with have a wait but very reasonable. Recommend
While the waitress was ok the food was terrible. We had the baked mostacholli. It had a strange taste. Nothing like a tomato sauce. We left almost everything on our plate. The waitress asked if we wanted boxes and we said no. We expected her to ask why we didnt eat but she didnt seem to care. Sorry,we wont be back.
In one word...amazing! We came for the first time last month to try it out, sinice we had a coupon. My husband and i each had the filet and twice baked at the recommendation of our waitress. So juicy and tender. We decided to come back tonight hoping luck would struck twice, and it did. Not only were our meals to die for, our waitress, who was so sweet to remember us, brought a dessert on the house! If you are in the Rochester area and are needing good food and service, do yourself a favor and stop at the golden eagle!
My wifes family insists on returning here for birthday gatherings, despite the repeated complaints about the food. Yesterday was no exception. The soup of the day, clam chowder, seemed to be intentionally over-seasoned to hide an off taste, that we now have identified as bad clams! Each person who tried this soup, now, suffers from mild to moderate gastric distress. Considering the high prices, it was unreasonably greedy of them to serve a soup they should have known to throw out.Since past history shows that this will not stop our family from returning, I really wish I could find something good to say about the Golden Eagle, so I will try.... Well, its not White Castle.
1st timer. Wife & I & 2 other couples enjoyed the Christmas lights on Main in Rochester. Because of the huge turn out, most bars/restaurents were jammed. We ended up at Golden Eagle and what a pleasure it was. The owner was very friendly, the bar staff were on there game. Definitely going back.
A hidden gem. Best steak - the filet Mario is fantastic. Better than any of the expensive steak houses that Ive been to in the area, at half (or sometimes a quarter) of the price. Service is always pretty friendly.Ive had several other dishes as well, and all were good. This is the restaurant I insist that everyone go to.
Let me start by saying I’m glad this restaurant usually receives great reviews. Hopefully my experience was one in a million. We came for the Arts and Apple Festival last weekend and after checking into the Park Royal we took our party to the Golden Eagle like we always do. Its our tradition. Our evening was off to a great start, enjoying various drinks while awaiting our Filet Mignon, Shrimp Scampi, Escargot, Mussels, etc. when an untimely nose bleed set in just as our food was being served. We had to ask our waitress to give me more napkins as I had quickly soaked the 3 we had been given for our meal. She did return with about 5 or 6 so I immediately dashed off to lady’s room as I was bleeding profusely. At one-point a few customers popped back in to check on me and thought I needed to go to emergency room. Frankly I was scared. We asked for more napkins and were told no because they were too pricey. To add insult to injury we were given a used brown paper towel roll from behind the bar. Don’t know why as it’s the same hard paper found in the lady’s room that absorbs very little. Silly me, as I was trying to keep their bathroom from looking like a crime scene. My husband asked our waitress to check on me 3 times as he was worried and couldn’t come back to help me, she said she would, and never did. But again, many of Golden Eagles customers returned to the restroom to check on me which was extremely sweet and all gave me great advise as to what and what not to do. When I finally returned to our table (about a half hour later) we asked to reheat my meal just a tad. Our waitress said it couldnt be done so I told her to take it away because I was very unhappy with the whole situation and I left it at that. The waitress and I never spoke again. My party and I (still in total disbelief) were discussing the situation at our table over a glass of red wine when a very tall, attractive, ponytailed brunette waitress said, Maybe this is none of my business but I heard what you were saying and I think your way out of line because of I would have done the same thing. She was very flip and told me that our waitress was very upset because of the way I had treated her. She went on to tell us that the owner was very cheap and gets on them for wasting supplies on a regular basis so she was just doing her job and again, she would have done the same. Have to admit we got quite the kick out of someone being so dense as to say such a thing to a customer about their boss but not only did we go out for dinner, we were now having a show. She banged on telling us that our waitress even went back to ask the kitchen to warm up my meal and the head cook refused, so it wasnt her fault. We smiled and told her that was a very good try but our waitress never left our table after we asked to have it warmed. It was then a moment of recognition washed over her face when she realized she had been caught in a lie and walked away. We had to assume she and our waitress were buddies and attempted to put me in my place. God knows the customer is not always right but WOW.I find the whole thing unfortunate as we had intended to wrap up our evening at the Golden Eagle but after the night we had had we agreed to take our party back to the Park 600 where we had a great laugh with the staff. Everyone there was in shock, as were those at the Art N Apple Festival and everywhere else we went. When people found out we were visitors and asked where we had been and were we having a good time, we told them. These two waitresses need to be clued in on the old saying......And they tell 2 friends…. and so on…. and so on.
LOVE THE FOOD!!! This family-run restaurant has a real chef and awesome food! I love the Spaghetti Bolognese with baked cheese. Another favorite is their Tenderloin Medallions Portabella with zip sauce. If you dine here, dont get a sandwich or a burger...for a few extra bucks you could feast on a delicious meal prepared by a chef! The ambiance is great for a date or for families. Most people who eat here are regulars because the food is THAT good. Ive been eating here for 15 years!
Golden Eagle has always been our fancy night out , great food and old time charm that reminds me of Carls chop house in the 70s. This place has class! If you have not gone here, you are missing out. We have been going there since the early 80s. We have had several parties there too, from first communions to Christmas parties.

2022-06-13Food was delicious! Great service! I never even realized the place was there and I have lived in Rochester a few miles away for 5 years. I dont know why but I always assumed it was a Chinese restaurant and it always looked dark from the outside. But my dad recently took myself , my fiance and my daughter there for our birthday dinners... it was fabulous!!!! Food was amazing, great selection, got a choice of almost any dessert for my birthday. I am so glad we found this place because we live just a mile and a half away so we will be going back!

2022-04-19Honestly I really love this place and it surprised me. I drove by it frequently when visiting other stores in the strip. I was never very impressed with the presentation of the outside. Then I had attended two funerals nearby and the luncheon was held at Golden Eagle. I was amazed at how absolutely delicious everything was each time! The staff was quick and the food was hot and tasty. Everyone was raving about it, even my picky husband. We decided to try it as a date night the other night and again were very impressed. Its the older style restaurant that still gives you a soup or salad plus a starch with your entree. Plus you get really yummy breadsticks at the table. I feel almost at home when Im here because it feels that everyone knows each other and has such a nostalgic atmosphere.I really recommend you try this place out if you havent already. You will leave full and smiling.

2022-04-05I was in a large group of people this past Saturday evening. Service was great which was complicated for the wonderful waitress we had because many of the party came in at different times. Food was outstanding with the menu having a great selection of items. We will definitely be going back!!

2022-05-11This place hasn’t changed in more than 30 years. The specials were written in a beautiful cursive handwriting, the furnishings were born in the sixties, just call it cute. Food was good, had the Veal Parmesan, recipe courtesy of the old country.

2022-04-16We celebrated my wifes 38th birthday at the Golden eagle recently and it was a great experience! We chose to celebrate this occasion here based on feedback we have received from my sister in law whom is a regular at this establishment. At first Im not gonna lie I was skeptical but now Im a true believer! My wife got the filet with Mario sauce which was out of this world and cooked just as she likes and requested. We also had the shrimp scampi and calamari as apps and I would definitely recommend both of those! Overall the food, drinks and service were excellent- hats off to the kitchen and the restaurant staff for all their hardwork! Im looking forward to coming back again and I would highly recommend this resturant. Thank you again.

2022-05-12Sure this place is old school...but old school can be good and this place is good. No...its actually great. Im in town for a few months and growing up in Rochester in the 80s wanted to visit some of the old places. My first time walking through the door I could see the interior had been updated since the last time I was there but I recognized Fred(the owner) and even our waitress I recognized from way back. Bottom line the food is very good and well priced. The Shrimp Scampi is just amazing. The Clam Chowder is home made and probably the best Ive ever had. The Chicken Parm is massive and the spaghetti with Bolognese is home made and delicious. My Dad had the Fettuccini Alfredo and, unlike every restaurant Ive been to, this is actually made with cream, butter, and parm not some canned tasteless sauce. I could go on and on. Service was great and the food ALWAYS comes out hot. Its no wonder this place has survived so long as Rochester grew from the sleepy town to what it is today. Ive never had an issue and wish I had a place like this close to where I live. The clientele trends towards seniors. I just dont understand why the younger people in the area arent swarming this place. Id much rather go to the Eagle and have a great meal at a great price than some chain place like Olive Garden, etc . So if youre in the area forget about all those other places and give the Eagle a shot for some great home made food cooked up just right.

2022-06-20This used to be a great restaurant but has significantly gone down over the past couple of years. The owner, Fred, can’t seem to right the ship and has become cranky like he has given up. Maybe it’s time to hang up the spatula and sell to a new owner that cares.
