Went with a group of 8 we all had salad bar and all seemed to enjoy, the steaks we ordered were all over cooked from what we ordered. 4 of us got the prime rib and none of us was impressed.
Just stopped in for carry out order of French fries.Extremely large portion. Great taste. Excellent value.Thumbs up Hanks !
Delicious food, friendly service. we went earlier in the day and it was peaceful and quiet. a little on the pricey side bit not REAL bad.

Couldnt eat ANY of my steak sandwich..it was all sinew, the waitress really couldnt give two rips so I didnt eat.. didnt want to chance it..Must be new management. Used to be a really good place to eat...

Service service was terrible the smothered chicken soup or whatever it was they called it made me sick first time there last time there I dont recommend it to anyone passing through the locals can keep it Im sure there are a lot better restaurants with better food and better service in the area look for them we were there on a Sunday around 4:35 and white waitress was a heavy set with long hair chewing gum I dont think she knew how to waitress she had her hands around the rim of the cup and the glasses my food was still sitting on the counter waiting for it to be served to me I had to go up and get it and then when I did get it to eat it it was cold because it was sitting there too long terrible service terrible thats my review of this place
Went to hanks at midnight on a Friday night to find the bar locked and closed with a few guests inside. When I got the waitresss attention, she stated that they were closed and would not let me in although theyre business hours show 2am. Beware of unfriendly service.

Served my son raw (completely frozen in the middle) chicken and didnt seem to think it was a big deal. Never going back.
Great people, food was less than desirable is I am allergic to fish and seafood, the f fries tasted like fish, and perhaps most like that, I prefer f fries to taste like f fries, and not have repercussions, shame on me ...perhaps the cook should follow the Michigan food code of no cross contamination....I give the food a ZERO, the people a high five...

Just got there at 1:15 on a Friday night and they had the doors locked even though they are open until 2AM. People were inside too. Wont be returning.

2018-09-02We had great appetizers and then ordered more food to go. Our server was very friendly and constantly checking on our drinks and needs. The Michigan football game was going later than the kitchen was open, but they let us stay until the game ended with no pressure to leave. They are great for families and sports.

2019-07-06Stopped to grab a bite on our way to Mackinac City. Car show was happening in parking lot. Got inside just in time before everyone else motored in. Ordered pizza and it was really good. (Crust was really dark on bottom but gave it a nice crunch and the cheese was AWESOME!!

2017-08-11Great food and service! We had never visited before, and I am on a severely limited diet so cant have just anything. They still had great options! It was a little more on the pricey side for a bar and restaurant; but that was definitely balanced out by the fact that everything was homemade and not from a box or chain supplier. We will definitely be back on our trips through Alger!!!!!

2019-07-14EDIT: Service is great, but the food has really gone downhill with the new ownershipBeen going to Hanks for over twenty years. We own property down the road, so whenever the guys are Up North, dinner and beers at Hanks is always a sure bet. Great food, salad bar and beer prices.....plus the nicest waitresses!!! Also, the night before the firearms opener is a deer camp tradition.

2019-03-10As a long time customer this review is specifically to the new owners. You are blessed with a great wait staff, Amanda and Amber, listen to them on what there customers are saying, that is your most important feedback. My understanding is that you are new the food business.March 2 we were there for prime rib, quality was terrible, very stringy, is not a 20.00 prime rib, for like 12.00, your supplier is taking advantage of you. Many quality prime ribs through Sysco or Vaneerden food service.March 9 we were there for walleye and Hanks steak standwich, fish cooked to a crisp and steak was ordered medium rare and was well done. Plus you were out of French fries.You better get on top of this or hire someone for quality control or you will find your loyal customers will be gone.Will give you another try in a month, hopefully you have it corrected.

2017-07-11Expensive place to eat. Its close to where we live so we go often over the last 22 years. On the weekends you might wait for a table. Food comes out about 15 minutes after you order. I have sent food back to the kitchen a few times. The buffet on the weekends is good, but was disappointed that you just cant eat from the buffet. You need to order a dinner entre which starts at $12.99 and the buffet is included. That must be on the new side because you use to be able to just order from the buffet for $7-8.99. I also hate that the wont make a pizza for you Friday-Sunday, but understand why because they are busier then. Its a nice size restaurant/bar. Waitresses are good. Alcoholic drinks are in the expensive side.

2018-10-21Very good food.excellent service.real mashed potatoes. Steak off the grill and alcohol. Hard to beat. You have to go there on purpose its out of the way but not disappointing.

2016-11-18Great food choices, and very affordable- a unique out of the way place, in Alger. Very clean!Stopped in for lunch and had a Mushroom Swiss 1/2 pound burger- very good & they had FRESH mushrooms- which made a huge flavor difference- TASTY :)

2019-07-04Our food sat in the kitchen window for over 4 minutes, then never got napkins or silverware and could not get servers attention. We were sitting at the bar so grabbed some bar napkins, but still no silverware. This was our 2nd visit since the new owners came in and both times were disappointed. Dont think we will be back.

2019-05-22Stopped by for lunch on the way home from up North. Friendly staff, good pizza, prompt service. Would go back for sure. More of a bar than a restaurant but the food was still good.
