Good place for gifts, dont recommend any lattes. Bought a hot cinnamon toast crunch latte and a frozen smores latte. There was actually cinnamon toast crunch cereal in the drink. Was weird and not good. The smores one also had marshmallow chunks in it. Also not good. Was not expecting food in my drink, just flavor.
Adorable little cafe with organic coffee drinks, homemade meat and vegetarian pies, and lots of yummy maple products. My personal favorites are the chai tea latte, brisket and portobello mushroom pie, and the cinnamon infused syrup. This place is definitely a dont miss.
This place is great! I first came to Harwood Gold because I heard they have good coffee and the word around town was correct. Their coffee and the meat pie that I had was great. I thought it was a nice touch that they seem to use antique plates and cups for the pie and coffee. The pie was gooey and crispy at the same time, perfect for any pie. Really interesting flavor to it since lamb was the meat. The ambiance and style of the cafe was really nice, I liked how they decorated. It felt like I was going to eat in an old barn with friends on the farm. Very warm and welcoming. Too many places dont put enough effort into the atmosphere of their business and they did a great job. Their logos and labels are also pretty cool too which I overheard that they do all of the designing in house. The service was wonderful. The sister owners were very nice and I got to meet both of them. I read up a little on their story and I love how they are sharing their family recipes and history with other people that visit.I highly recommend this place to everyone in Charlevoix!
We received a gift of Harwood Gold products from friends in Michigan for Christmas. One of the items was not sealed properly and it leaked all over the contents of the package. Also we were unsure if it was safe to consume the unsealed product. We called 3 times and left messages twice. After no response, we sent a letter to the Parsons Road location with photos of the product. After a month with no response we sent a letter with photos to the Bridge Street location. Another month or so has passed and no response again. We would rate a NO STAR if that was an option. We would not recommend Harwood Gold and we will definitely not be a customer the next time were in Charlevoix.May 15, 2021Following this review I did hear from the owner who apologized and asked for the order information. The owner indicated that she would start the replacement process That information was supplied on March10 with a followup email to her on April 4. Its now May 15 and no response.I really dont care about the damaged product, but i do resent the attitude and being simply blown off by this business owner.Do not patronize this business. Zero stars!
I have tried giving this place so many chances because it seems like a cool healthy organic coffee shop but there has been too many mishaps. The very last one is the fact that I ordered a bagel and not only did I have to toast it myself but I also had to use a bagel slicer which is very dangerous but the most important part about this is the fact that the girl gave me the display bagel so I did not understand why my bagel was hard as a rock and she asked me if I wanted to refund so then the other girl laughed and said oh no you werent supposed to give her that one it was the display You have to get a bagel from the back. Whoever is the owner or managing this place needs to find a new line of work because clearly they cannot hire the right employees. Not to mention the facts that my coffee is absolutely disgusting! Well never be returning here again!
Excellent coffee, Aussie meat pies, and maple syrup products. Everybody has an espresso machine, but why do the majority of coffee shops not know how to make a great espresso drink with properly done steamed milk? Harwood nails it! Their Flat White is the real deal, just like their Aussie meat pies. Great place! (knowledgeable and friendly owners and staff, as well)
Such a welcoming atmosphere, a great place to catch up with a friend, or pop in for a quick and fresh meal. Their meat pies are a staple in our freezer, and our pantry always stocked with their Maple Syrup (try the bourbon infused!) and sriracha ketchup! Every product is top-notch!
Half shop, half eatery. Menu is limited to coffee, a few other beverages, and meat pies although there are sandwiches and other beverages nearby in displays. Nice ambience. Syrups are tasty. I wasnt as impressed with the meat pie (I got the breakfast pie) as I was hoping to be. The latte was also okay.
Skip Starbucks and Coffee Beans of the world and hit this rustic style gem. Besides having quality coffee drinks the place has dozens of Michigan made products. The maple syrup variety tasting bar is free and fantastic. This isnt just a coffee stop. It is an experience.
The food and coffee is delicious. I would highly recommend. Counter service. Not very baby friendly when busy; solo locals taking up a table with an hour old coffee and their smartphone or computer. Distracted, but still very pleasant staff, got my ordered miscommunicated (asked for lamb, got delicious steak). Simply put, they need more small tables, and maybe a notice of one hour per local, haha.
Not impressed with the place at all. First time there my chai latte was ok and my daughter’s hot chocolate were absolutely awful. The second time the cold brew was colored water. The service was not any better. Both times I have been there the girls seemed to have an attitude. Will not go back. Plenty other places to enjoy a decent cup of joe without overpaying for mediocre coffee and service.
We ordered full meals from the menu. The woman taking our order was not friendly or helpful and just seemed concerned with getting to the next person in line. I had questions about menu items and she didnt want to answer them. Wait was fairly long for simple meals and food was good, but not amazing. We also waited forever just for water and I had to go up about 15 min later to ask for it, at which point the woman asked me if Id be ordering to eat in. She had no idea that she just took my order 15 min. ago. I appreciate the farm to table idea and I like to support local small businesses, but I think this place is best left to coffee and pastries and not full meal service.
Really enjoyed the free tasting bar of all the maple syrups and other goodies, however the barista was rude and while the chai latte was just okay, their latte just tasted like coffee with milk in it. I’ve had plenty of lattes and this one was a particularly disappointing one. Would go back for the syrups, not for the drinks.
My wife and I ordered small caramel lattes with an extra shot of espresso. The milk wasn’t steamed long enough so both were warm to drink, but not hot enough. The barista didn’t build up any foam or froth in the milk so there was nothing to top off the drink. I was the only customer in the store so there really wasn’t a reason not to take her time and make them correctly. There are better options in Charlevoix, I suggest you find one.
Although the woman working was very pleasant she was not competent at her job. Took us 10 minutes to pay with our credit card, and then it was another 15 minutes before our coffees arrived. The prices were what you would expect in a Cafe that takes their coffee seriously, unfortunately the drinks did not live up to the prices. Didnt even finish my latte.
Had they same experience as Ross B in the reviews below. Rude barista, Chai Tea Latte was not good. Waiting for coffee(s) only to walk up and see they just set them at the counter without calling out the order. Felt like they were annoyed I was a paying customer ... LOL.
Came here once to get a matcha latte and it was awful. It was an inch of powder on the bottom of the cup and Luke warm water sitting on top. I mixed it together and tried drinking it but it tasted like I was trying to swallow dirt. No flavor. My husband got a regular black coffee and he said it wasn’t hot and tasted bland.
Gorgeous Pinterest-esque rustic interior unfortunately does not make up for the not unfriendly but not exactly friendly service. The first time I went in I waited patiently in NO line as I watched four young employees behind the counter talk amongst themselves and ignore my existence on the other side of the register. I ordered promptly, as I had to get back to work. The employee who took my order acted like I was taking up great amounts her valuable time, then gave me a nasty look when I did not bother to tip.Long story short, I only decided to go back because the local Lotties bagels that they cant possibly mess up -- aside from the fact they toast them and half hazardly throw them into paper bags and dont bother to give you a knife or tell you where one is for your cream cheese.Three stars only because of Lotties famous bagels. Otherwise, one star is sufficient.
Classic coffee-shop rustic vibe combines with a unique maple-product shopping experience to make HG the perfect place to stop for a quick (or not) pick-me-up during your trip to downtown Charlevoix. I have visited HG several times throughout the summer, and each time I discover something new. The delicious coffee drinks - like the new nitro cold brew - are the stars of the show, but its the supporting cast of maple sweetened confections, aussie meat pies, and adorable rustic environment that make HG such a worthwhile place to stop. It is all brought together by delightful customer service from the crew. Tia, Marnie, Maggie, and Riley are all gems, willing to customize your drink or tell you about some the unique maple-sweetened product line, sourced from a local maple farm. My season in Charlevoix is coming to an end, but I will certainly be back next summer.
Australian meat pies and a delicious assortment of infused Maple syrups! A tasters dream! Looking for that perfect gift for a foodie friend, stop in here. Right in the heart of downtown Charlevoix! Well worth the stop! IG @withlovefrommiche Follow me for Michigan eats!
Ate lunch as part of Restaurant week. Excellent pulled lamb shank BBQ sandwich with Harwoods maple sirracha sauce & feta. Also serving cappucino at late lunch. Locally sourced or Harwood grown ingredients. This is a great additional food spot for both locals & visitors!

2021-06-04We came in for a drink and a snack this afternoon. We tried the Braised brisket and portobello meat pie and were delightfully pleased. It was flavorful, filling, and served warm.My husband had the cinnamon toast crunch iced latte, it was even served with cinnamon toast crunch cereal too! I had the golden milk iced latte and it was really good too! The store had a great gift shop with unique items. They also had a grab and go fridge with salads and meat and cheeses. We will definitely come back!

2021-11-29The customer service is great and they have a wide variety of items to buy. Their maple granola is some of the best that I have ever had and definitely recommend giving it a try. They also have excellent cookies and cold brew coffee as well as tea lattes. They have indoor seating which is a nice addition during these colder months. I highly recommend stopping by and buying some of their delicious granola and a coffee.

2019-05-25The savory pies and maple treats are amazing. Harwood Gold Cafe has become a frequent stop for breakfast or lunch for me when I visit Charlevoix. The leak, bacon breakfast pie I had this morning had a flavorful rich gravy and a wonderfully egg that had poached in the gravy as the pie baked. The staff was very friendly and were kind enough to let me use my travel mug for coffee, even washing it out for me.

2021-10-18Their chocolate hazelnut spread is so delicious and doesnt taste like concentrated white sugar like Nutella does. It makes Nutella taste fake.

2021-10-08Cute store but the iced coffee was the worst Ive ever had. Cant tell there was any milk or syrup. The employee at the counter was rather short when I asked for a napkin. Just smile and be helpful.
