Comment: Worst place to rent a car ever! They did not honor my reservation, crappy service when i checked in, and the car that i got had all service required lights on. Car selection is bare minimum too. Then when i return, they dont even acknowledge that i was there, they just keep me waiting until it was my turn. Dont bother coming here, its a waste of time and money.

Comment: Last year on May 12, 2023 I was leaving this parking lot when a Hertz driver driving a mini van came speeding into the parking lot, I reversed and honked my horn but it was too late and he hit my car. As you can see in the attached photos the driver had MORE THAN ENOUGH room to not hit me, and this dude did not understand what he just did or what was going on. I literally cant make this up he got out of the car and said, Was I really going that fast? And they let him get back in the car and drive away!? Yesterday, I got an email from my insurance saying that this pathetic rental company is giving pushback about their driver hitting my car. All the terrible reviews on here are accurate, including how incompetent the idiot manager is who doesnt have clue what he is doing or how to hire. Avoid this terrible establishment at all costs its a clown show and there are a million other options in this city.

Comment: Terrible experience at El Monte Hertz. My parents always use Hertz and recommended them to me after being involved in an accident. The other driver’s insurance would be paying for it so they recommended Enterprise but because of my parents recommendation, I went with Hertz which was a mistake. My dad and I called this location to check if they had sedans available and they did so we told them we’d be coming in about 10 minutes. When we got there, we were the first customers to come in and when it was time to pay their card reader wasn’t working. After waiting about 20/ 30 minutes they proceeded to help another customer, let them pay on the same card reader that wasn’t working for us and got their car and vacuumed it. At this point we had been here for about 45/50 minutes and were just waiting to pay on the card reader that was now working. A 3rd customer came in requesting a rental and they proceeded to help her and pay. When asking when we’d be helped, the manager was rude and said that we had left. When attempting to tell him that only I went across the street but my dad (who was the one waiting to pay) didn’t leave, he stated “I don’t have time to go back and forth”. Even the second customers they helped were saying it wasn’t fair that they were getting taken care of before us. Therefore, we decided to go with enterprise instead. I do not recommend this hertz. I wasted over an hour to not get a rental car here.

Comment: I rented a vehicle from Hertz. ONE HOUR before my pickup, associate GRAHM calls me to tell me my rental car is unavailable, and that an additional fee of $16 per day was needed for me to rent a car, nearly DOUBLING my reserved price.I expressed to Grahm that the Hertz policy allowed me to get a vehicle at no additional cost even if the reserved vehicle is unavailable. This is Hertz policy, but still, Grahm attempted to bite me for more cash! This smells of a planned defrauding of vulnerable customers, where Hertz gives the consumer an ultimatum one hour before pickup of PAY MORE or LOOSE YOUR RENTAL.As soon as Grahm realized he wasnt going to fool this consumer into paying, he became confrontational over the phone, filled with sarcasm and punches such as, You know what sir? Well make it even cheaper for you! Come on in!. I asked Grahm if he was being sarcastic. He says Yes I am! then proceeds to hang up on me.I then had to face this snarky associate in person during pickup, and his attitude was reserved and shy. A big contrast from the disrespectful snappy attitude he had earlier. Sure enough, I didnt have to pay extra for my rental, and the associate gave me a lousy apology. Sorry about earlier, the holiday season is rough!.Ill speak to corporate about this bait and switch, and rude associate. But Ive had to wait until two months after my rental return to complain so that the associate does not retaliate by claiming I damaged the rental. Boo!

Comment: My recent experience at the Hertz location in El Monte, CA, was nothing short of a nightmare. I was initially handed a defective vehicle that caused numerous inconveniences during my trip. Upon returning to the location, I was greeted with appalling customer service.The staff seemed disinterested and unhelpful, offering no guidance when redirecting me to another location without any clear instructions. Later, when attempting to resolve the issue, I encountered the manager, Chris, whose dismissiveness was astonishing. He claimed to be too busy to address the concerns of a loyal Hertz member.What shocked me most was their treatment of my father, an ADA driver. Their lack of consideration for his needs was unacceptable. With countless rental options available, Im seriously reconsidering my loyalty to Hertz.I strongly advise against using this location. Save yourself the trouble and avoid it at all costs. The dismissive attitude and lack of care for customers, especially those with specific needs, are deeply concerning.

I see a lot of negativity reviews, but thank God, I have had only one bad experience in all the years I have rented here. Maybe because I always reserve at least 3 weeks or 4 months in advance, I never have rented a car from here at the last minute. I always follow up to ensure they will have what Im requesting. I rented Suburbans, Teslas, small commuter vehicles, as well as midsize cars for long trips.

Comment: HORRIBLE Experience; I will never rent a car with Hertz.I reserved a child seat, but the day I picked up the car, the El Monte branch didn’t have it, not to mention I needed to figure out where to get a child seat for my road trip.Hertz charged me $60 for the child seat that was never given to me. The branch manager Amaya told me the $60 would be credited back to me, but it never happened during my 14 days of road trip. Until today, a month after my road trip. I still can’t get my credit back. I’ve been spinning around between Hertz’s lousy system. I’ve called the 800 number five times and three times to the branch.I don’t get it… Why is it so hard to credit your customer back for the service you didn’t provide?

Comment: My insurance connected me with this rental shop because my car was being repaired and I needed transportation for work. I reserved the car for a full week and said that I was going to check in at 8am to pick it up. I arrived to the shop on my pick up date and it was already busy and there was only one person working the desk. It was a lot of waiting and I didnt get checked in until around 9am. The guy then still had to vacuum the car and wipe down the windshields.I finally got to take the car and I went straight home. It was probably around 9:30am by this point. I finally left to run an errand and noticed both the change oil light and the low tire pressure light were on. I immediately called and let them know and a girl said that I didnt need to worry about the oil change light because they have a schedule where they take it. She said that I could put in air myself or bring it back to the shop for them to check.I didnt feel comfortable putting in air myself so I drove back to the shop for them to take a look. The same man who helped me in the morning brought out a portable air machine and began filling the tire that the sensor was pointing out.I turned the car on and the light was still on and he said that I just had to drive it a little for the sensor to go away. I went ahead and listened to that advice and while the sensor did turn off for a little bit (maybe 20 mins) it turned back on as soon as I restarted the car.I called several times but they just kept putting me on hold and never actually picked up the call. I was very stressed at this point that I decided I was going to return the car and cancel the rest of my reservation.When I went to return the car it took them 30 mins to actually attend me. It was so frustrating that when they offered to switch the car for me I declined because it was clear that this shop did not offer quality service.They still charged me a full day. To top it off they were also trying to charge me the gas I used (which it barely went down to 7/8 of a tank). I let them know that I spent more time driving back and forth to their shop than I did anywhere else. The guy who was helping me asked the manager if there was something they could do and the manger was quick to try and say that I still needed to pay for the gas even if I was canceling the reservation. I then reminded him that the only reason I was returning the vehicle early was because they gave a defective vehicle that hadnt been properly serviced before renting it out.He then said that he would do it this one time since they were busy and needed to keep the line moving.I truly never write negative reviews unless Ive experienced unacceptable service and this is one of those cases. I dont recommend booking at this Hertz at all. Do yourself a favor and avoid the stress and frustration by booking elsewhere!!

Comment: I booked a car from this location via Uber on May 24th. When I first walked into the store, I handed over my Canadian drivers license and a Visa credit card. The person who works there said I also needed to provide a passport, but I mentioned that it does not say so in the checklist and car rental requirements. At the same time, I connected to Uber support about it and received the same answer from them as well. I tried to explain and show my conversation with Uber support to the person who works there, but she didnt even listen to me; she just left the room. I said, Anyway, Ill go and get my passport from my hotel, which I did. This time, the same employee looked at my passport and headed right over to the managers room. Later, she came out and said that since it was a Turkish passport, she needed to see a Turkish drivers license as well. But I told her that I dont live in Turkey; I live in Canada, and due to that, I never had a drivers license from my original country. She said, Your passport is not enough to rent a car. I was shocked and wanted to talk to the manager right after I heard that. And guess what? He said it was their policy to have a matching ID with the drivers license. When I asked to see that policy, he said it was recently updated and refused to provide the policy to me. I told him I rented a car from San Francisco two days ago, and they accepted my Canadian drivers license and Visa. He said thats a different state, and they have different policies (lmao :)). I told him its the same state, and he is just trying not to give me a car because Im from the Middle East. My friend, who has Canadian permanent residency and IDs, tried to rent it with his ID, drivers license, and Visa. The same thing happened, and the manager said, Im sorry, we cant rent you a car, and we had to leave the place. In short, I faced racism. You can see that employees of this location arent the best from other reviews as well. I opened a ticket on the Hertz website and will not let this one go.

Comment: Lets start with the fact I reserved a full size vehicle and was given a small Nissan kick. I would have given them a higher star rating if they werent trying to rip me off at drop off. Not only me but I was literally watching them tell someone there was no other choice then to charge them for picking up their car early. Nevermind the fact they were giving them a dirty car. Because I have been renting from Hertz for so long I had to step in and explain to the customer what they were being charged for & how to avoid it. It was a whole lot of fake smiles with oh well attitudes from the employees. I can see how that would translate to customer service now a days.

Beware, the staff here work on their own terms and don’t know how to communicate with costumers… I made a reservation 24hrs in advance & came from a long way only to arrive and the woman in the front counter tells me I need a credit card next time if I reserve in advance but this time she’ll do it because I didn’t know. She proceeded with running my credit without authorization or knowledge and I needed to now make a $500 deposit for the reservation based on my credit history which I was ok with, but then she tells me I needed another debit card because apparently they don’t accept Debit cards with Bank of America and if I don’t have a different debit or credit card I couldn’t rent a car with them after all. I had no choice then to leave.All this for a basic ol’ Medium size sedan (Mazda) i totally understand if i reserved a premium vehicle but it was for a Mazda!! Really HERTZ????!!! LolAnd the female that’s working the front desk needs a little more education to be able to even communicate what she’s trying to tell her costumers.. she’s lacking a lot of knowledge in costumer service.I won’t be returning to this location, I will rather go to their competition down the street they are a lot more helpful every step of the way.HERTZ- El Monte location gets an “F”

You end up paying more because they don’t keep up the maintenance on the vehicle. I rent one suv and the battery in the alarm was going bad. Comment: I arrived on time for the pick up appointment. Unfortunately they has 2 people handling the rental operations. The folks helping us are nice though. It took more than 1 hour to get the vehicle. I think the Hertz brand is meaningless now. It is in the same group of car rental companies that were in bankruptcy or coming out of bankruptcy or soon to be in bankruptcy. Stick with rental operations that are in large location or airport if you don’t want to spend half the morning waiting for your rental car.

Comment: They did not want to rent a vehicle to me. I’ve tried literally 6 different credit cards with them, even had my cousin and step father try and get one out under their names but no matter what i did. They did not want to release anything to me. On top of that it was like playing a game with them because they would tell me and my family members that if we did something with our cards we would be able to get the rental, that if we went online and changed the rental to a different name. They were basically giving hope every time we were denied of a rental and just prolonged something that could’ve been resolved within minutes if had the proper training for the new policy updates . It took literally 2 and half hours just to be told that i wasn’t able to proceed with any rental and on top of that i was an hour and half late to work because of so. They however did give me a number to process my refund for the un ticketed rental and wow! How Hertz is so adamant on not giving back a refund!. Either that’s the case or just the customer service people in every department just don’t want to deal with the refund. I had to call the same number over 20 times in a single day just to finally get to billing department. Then I was told to that a request was put in for my refund and I had to call back son they could accept the refund, which made no sense what so ever. So when I did call back, it took me 15 tries to finally get to billing once more. I was either being clicked on or transferred back the main menu. Once i was able to get my refund approved, I waited over a week and still did not receive my refund. I then Had to go through the hassle of being clicked on and at least this time i only had to call 7 times to finally get to someone. I then was told that i had to wait another week for the transfer to be complete. Hertz customer service overall wouldn’t even get stars from me because of the hassle that they not only put me through but the stress and time wasted spent through just trying to get me refund.

Its not washed.. took me to car washed drop car and my self off there and the employee left.. from pick up at 330pm I left the car wash at almost 5pm. But getting charge from 330pm.. turn in car Monday. Only one employee is working.. it took me one hour to turn in car.. this place was better when it was down the street in the smart location. it is sad what it has become they just lost a loyal customer.

Comment: Rates are cheap compared to the area. The poor service reflects that (you get what you pay for). Only rented from this location twice and both times vehicle was not ready. On my second rental they took awhile to find a vehicle that they could provide me as well. Comment: Came out pist, I called to make reservations they had me waiting for an hour so they can tell me they cant rent it to me because apparently they do a soft credit check, yes my credit is not the greatest but what does that have to do if Im paying for it. In top of that I asked the lady why didnt they tell me this over the phone and her rude response was policies are online and I told her I called and that was something the man over the phone should off mentioned (to not waist my time) then she said I dont know who you talked to I said the mans name was Amir.. her response was no wonder. Definitely not going back... communication and customer service

Comment: Watch out for their lying and cheat deal, coz theyll take your money! heres what happened, rent one of their vehicle (terrible, dirty, unstable Nissan that have lots of tape marks on it) on Jan 31 2019 and rented for a week (7days)which was supposedly until Feb 7 2019, when my Lexus was in the dealer for details works upgrade, but returned the vehicle 2 days earlier, called them around 9:19am on Feb 5 2019, and told them about the policy regarding returning the vehicle early, she said that we will REFUNDED you whatever the days I didnt use the vehicle, I said great, Ill bring it over in 20 minutes, got there and there was just me and another person about to rent a vehicle, then another one came in while I in a process to get my final bill, but then suddenly there was 6 guys came in all in the same time, was a bit crowded so I didnt pay attention with my final bill receipt and get on the uber they ordered for me to take me home, and that was that. So couples day later I noticed when I gather all of my receipts they DID charged menthe full amount of 7 days I rented the vehicle, NOT the 5 days, YES they stabbed/cheated me for those 2 days I didnt use, so I called and complained and told the girl who work that day and let her know that I would like to see those 2 days cost being refund to my card, she said she doesnt know how to do all that and will address it to her manager and have the manager call me back to solve the issue, NEVER until today, receiving ANY CALL from them!! Look, NOT about the money ok? Its about principle!! Imagine they did this to me, 1 person, for the amount of the 2 days which was $58+ tax without my knowledge, Im pretty sure they did this to others, that is NOT a good and honest business! I rented vehicle from Avis, Enterprise and many others, for 1 month or a month and a half during the summer time, every year, NEVER have any problems to get my refunds when I return their vehicle early, really! My AAA membership recommends and referred me to Hertz and after this I WILL NEVER EVER rent from Hertz again! Watch and pay attention to your final bill, because they will do this to you, cheat, lie and take your money away! Be aware! Should report this as a bad business!

Sameer the branch manager assisted me throughout and got me a Wrangler for a rental. There was however, a billing issue that was addressed in a great way. I definitely will be back to rent from this location. Thank you again Sameer for helping me rent the Jeep and help solve the billing related issue.

I was waiting for more than an hour even I reserved two days ago (because they did not have enough cars return at that time)! When they finally started to help me and the representative kept answering phones and wasted more than 20 mins during my process. And then they said since I was not 25 year old, I could not use debit card, and because I prepaid with a debit card so I have to call and cancel the reservation and book another one. I cancelled it through phone and then the price became double for my new reservation. I got so mad and did not rent their car. It totally ruined my plan and schedule! Awful service!!

Upon arrival, she told me that she had given my car away and that there was only a Yaris available. I get it, I was late but she first charged my credit card and then tells me about the car. SHE WOULDNT EVEN OFFER ME A DIFFERENT CAR - Even if I had to pay for it!!! (Which I would have been OK with) NO OPTIONS. These people dont know about customer service!!!! Comment: The customer service aspect of the El Monte office needs a bunch of work. My reservations included that they would pick me up at my home at noon. When no one showed up to pick me up, I started calling shortly after noon on the day designated and when I finally got through (nearly 1:00 PM) the person I spoke to did not speak English as his native language. When I finally got him to understand me (at least he said he did) he said that someone would call me back in fifteen minutes. Well, long story short, I finally had someone take me to the Hertz office on Garvey in El Monte and it was still after 3:00 PM before I got a car and got out of there. Im sure glad I didnt have a plane to catch. The front tires on the Nissan Altima that I rented front tires were nearly bald on the outside third of the tires. I called this to the attention of the agent and he said that, it would be okay. I rented the car for two week and the last week the steering was pulling to one side than the other quite dramatically. I was tempted to look up a Hertz office where I was and take the car back in for either getting another car or getting new tires on the front. Im sorry...I did neither. When I turned the car in I told the agent of what I experienced and he asked, ...what am I, a mechanic? The last I saw the car was when the Lot Attendant got in it to take it to get it washed. One good thing I can say though...Hertz did have the lowest price for the type of car I wanted to rent and for the length of time. Oh, the car I had was a 2015 Black Nissan Altima (at least the registration in the car said it was a 2015). Take a look at the from tires before you drive it off the lot.

Comment: HORRIBLE service- extremely unprofessional! I made an advanced reservation to rent a vehicle, and I specifically stated that I needed to be picked up to go rent the vehicle. The person I spoke to on the phone from Hertzs call center assured me that the location where the reservation was made offered a pick up service and told me to call the location directly after making the reservation to arrange the pick up. I called the location, but since the rental was for the following day, they told me to call the next morning to work out the details.I called at 8AM the next morning (my reservation was for 9AM) and was told that they couldnt pick me up because they were busy and I was outside of their pick-up range. I asked why I wasnt told that when I made the reservation and supplied my address. They gave me the run around and said they didnt know, and told me that if I was able to get to the office they would still rent me the car. I told them that if I had a way to get there I wouldnt have asked for a pick up service. Then they said, well, we can still pick you up but it wont be for a while. I told them I made a 9AM reservation for a reason- I had to get to work and couldnt wait all day for them. I spoke to the manager, who gave me some lame excuse about how they were short-staffed and had five customers waiting in the lobby. I told them that wasnt an excuse because I am a customer too and they were not honoring my reservation. He continued offering lame excuses so I told him that was unacceptable and canceled the reservation. I will NEVER use Hertz again.

The employee that helped me was named Wesley R. and he made sure everything went smoothly. I returned my car a few days later, and was not charged for anything extra.Will definitely be returning.NOTE: This is a customer service position, they do the best that they can with the cars that they have. Anyone complaining and having an attitude with the employees, give them a break. It is not always easy dealing with impatient customers.

Comment: When I received the car I didnt notice the smell because the windows were down, as soon as I got in the car I started the cars AC. When I had to put in gas about 30 minutes later I noticed the most potent marijuana smell I have ever smelled. I called Hertz and told them and they told me they had no other cars that they can give me, so all they can do is give me my money back or wait till later in the day so more cars are returned. I still needed a car so I told them I will buy a car freshener and see if that helps. As the day went on the smell got so bad that it was getting in to my clothes. so I called Hertz again and they had a car for me. When I arrived there the employs thought it was funny that the car smelled so bad and were laughing about it. They gave me a free upgrade for my trouble and apologized for the smell. (Its truly unprofessional that the Hertz employs thought it was funny that the car smelled so bad, and were making jokes) I rent a car from Hertz at least once a month since January of this year my experience has been getting worse and worse I am at the point that I will no longer be using Hertz for my car rental needs ever.

There thieves and they charge your credit card without permission/authorization they charged me 1,680.00 without my consent or knowledge there car was 2014 Malibu Chevy that was all beat up and dirty empty on gas since it was an insurance claim they let me keep it and then convinced me that as long as my car was at shop I was fine but they still had my debt car on file so when they felt the bill was up enough the called me and said that I only had permission to keep the car for 2 days . After i had It for a month which My Car is still not ready And still in shop . Mind you My Car is still in The shop And Affirmative Insurance Made The reservation not I . But They tricked me into giving My credit card so They can have My information on file And litterally be able to access my account. And have access to my money to take what I didnt even have almost 1700.00 hundred dollars.... Now we are at the point that my bank the insurance and the rent a car hertz have ruined my life in a matter of minutes please do not use this particular one on Garvey in El Monte because they seem to have a plan to steal peoples money ..... And get away with it society is getting worse by the minute! Im a single parént on a fixed income who ever this has happened to please contact me by email i have Made a report to the BBB. I made a police report because now they say that they have never picked up the car so where is it ? When I was contacted by there recovery department on the 9th of March and the next day on the 10 th they picked up in front of my house where it had been parked since I picked it up this company is awful please be aware!!!! godbless

When calling on Monday to make arrangements for the car to be picked up at a car dealership, the Hertz employee did not want to take my name, info about the car, where it was parked at the dealership, and which salesman was in possession of the keys. The employee did not give his name. I also inquired about adding my airline miles number to the rental and he did not answer repeatedly. ~click~Calling back, Jose was a professional on the phone and took all the relevant information and closed out the rental on Saturday, as I had arranged between calling the Lakewood Office (initially rented there) and consulting the El Monte Office. As this related to an insurance claim, I was told it could not be associated with my miles. I am fine with that answer. Thank you, Jose...
