Comment: I rented a car off of Travelocity months ago and realized it was going to be WAY too small of a SUV to transport all of the people and stuff I needed to get to South Lake Tahoe for my wedding. Shamieka was able to upgrade my reservation to a very large and nice Tahoe with all the bells and whistles for not much more. She was GREAT! She helped me while in a conference call to make sure we got out of there in a fast manner after I had to get some other documentation from home. She made the process so smooth and even remembered us enough to congratulate us when we dropped the tahoe off 5 days later. I will DEFINITELY rent from here again!

Comment: I picked up a car(Toyota Corolla) at this location. Arrived at 5.40. An employee issued all the documents, we signed and she left behind the car. Then she came back and since it was 6 o’clock in the evening, we went outside, she closed the office and we went to the car. She took photos of all the scratches and a few more photos of the interior. Then she gave me the keys and drove away in her car. I also took a photo of all the scratches. But when I got into the car, I was in shock. The car was dirty. The panel was in dust and small pieces similar to ashes or something else. It was impossible to touch the steering wheel, it was sticky. The passenger door and seat were flooded with a drink. Between the seats were pieces of food and ketchup. If there they vacuumed then only partially. I rented such a dirty car for the first time, usually rented cars are always clean. But worst of all was the pungent smell of marijuana. Since the employee had already left and I urgently needed a car, I had to ride it. I had to buy several shock absorbers in order not to somehow feel this smell. Especially since I travel with a child. It seems to me that employees need to better monitor this moment, otherwise all customers will soon be lost.

When I asked for a different vehicle I was told none were available but I could wait. I needed the car for work so that wasnt an option. I returned to see if anything else could be done. A few calls were made and then I was told I could head to the airport to exchange the car but the fees may be different. If they had called to tell me the car I prepaid wasnt available I could have made different arrangements in advance.Very unhappy with Hertz Madison.

Comment: Booked and paid in advance for a car to be picked up on Saturday, spoke to someone at corporate (since no one at this office could be bothered with picking up the phone at any point during the day) on Friday to let them know I’d be a little late picking up, and was assured it would be “absolutely no problem”. Well, unfortunately for me, Hertz is apparently not open on weekends at all, which, given the apparent incompetence of every employee of this company, basically left me up a creek. Lucky for me Enterprise was open.In closing, if you need to rent a car, use Enterprise; Hertz isn’t worth your time or money.

Comment: Watch out for the details in your agreement regarding what is defined as a 24 hour period or day. I never seen such tactic before. Dont count on your reservation being there when you arrive. Also, dont let them change your reservation rate to a higher rate the day you arrive because the car your reserved is not there and the car they have is a bigger car at a higher rate.Also, be careful with any corporate rate you have. They wont honor that rate, it will be lower than what was agreed between the two corporations.Ill be going to another rental agency. It is too much of a hassle at this location.

I got a car with expired tags on saturday and they close at noon so i had to drive all the way to Sacramento airport to get replacement. When i complained about it, a week later on return, the lady at the desk just denied that the car had expired tags. So i guess i was just lying for no reason. I said as a customer i am expecting better service and she is like ‘oh i am not even working today. I am just here. We use to be closed on saturdays and now we are open for 3 hours’. If you are in office and helping customers it means u r working. Plain and simple.

After accidently renting from this location 30 min away from the airport (where I actually needed to car), I tried to transfer the reservation to no avail. I hustled in a taxi to the place. I called twice since it was down to the wire before their closing time (6pm). Each time the manager and an employee assured me as long as I got there before 6pm, they would honor my reservation. I got there at 5:56pm and the doors were locked. There I was, in the rain, in a more desolate area and not knowing what to do. I ran to catch a guy near some cars, thinking he worked there. He did. He said all the counter staff left and he was just locking up the cars. I asked him to call his manager. He did (the same person I talked with) and then he says to me, yeah they are gone. The only reason I didnt fully burst into tears was because the lyft driver waited and offered to just house me in her car while she picked up other passengers, as I sorted out what I would do. In the end, she drove me back to the airport and (after 5-7 phone calls to Hertz that kept getting dropped) I got my reservation transferred with minimal extra charges. Apparently this location does this a lot to people. It has a reputation.

Comment: Angel was extremely short and rude, and it felt like she didn’t have the time to answer questions that were asked. Hands down the worst renting experience I have ever had in my life. My fiancé rented a Tesla as an Uber driver for a week because Uber was running a pretty decent discount, but it was a huge mistake. He got a flat tire the second day of having the Tesla, customer service on the 1800 EVehichle service through hertz was amazing and told us that all we had to do was get the Tesla towed out of our driveway and go get a new one from the hertz lot. When we arrived at the hertz lot, no one knew what was going on and told us that we definitely were not getting a different car and that we would have to take care of the tire but unfortunately they couldn’t find anyone who could even change the tire for hours. This whole event took at least 7 hours, so that’s a whole day wasted and of course there was no type of courtesy extension of even a couple of hours. The staff should know how to handle these situations and be prepared for them given it’s a car rental company, and everyone we spoke to that day was extremely rude. Now we’re on our last day of renting the Tesla and we had a friend pass away unexpectedly. We have a burial to be at at 10:30 am, where my fiancé has to carry the casket and put his best friend to rest. We don’t expect anything special from the staff because of this, no one could have expected or planned for this obviously. We called the hertz lot to see if they have a drop box so we can drop the Tesla over night (the hertz website advertises drop boxes and even gives instructions for them) and when Angel answered the phone she was extremely rude. She told us the car had to be back at 11, which is what the contract says of course and we understand that, it was just the way in which she spoke to us which left me feeling absolutely disgusted. She tried getting us to pay for the EV charges so she could extend our contract for an extra day which seemed great, we kind of figured since we lost a day maybe they were just being kind and giving us a courtesy day for everything going on. My fiancé asked multiple times whether or not it would be a courtesy day or not and finally she clarified and said it would not be, so we weren’t interested. She never told us how much the extra day would cost, she was just going to take our money and then not even mention how much an extra day would be. It was a very unprofessional call, and it felt as though she was talking down on us the whole time and had no real interest in helping, just taking our money.
