Kerbys Koney Island in other cities:
We came in for dine in and waited 10 minutes for a waiter to come over. Then she finally came over took our order and FORGOT!!! We waited 15 more minutes just for drinks which we never got either. Then the manager said to another waitress our table hasnt been helped. Only for that waiter to realize the other girl already took our order but she forgot. Didnt apologize or anything. Needless to say we left. Not worth our time to wait even longer. Would give zero stars if we could.
Our waitress was quite pleasant. The chicken noodle soup had very little flavor when it comes to the broth of the soup. The Cole slaw was also lacking flavor. The fish & fries werent anything to get overly excited about. The coney dog wasnt good at all as it had a metallic taste to it. Didnt say anything to our waitress as theres really nothing that can be corrected with that. The curly fries with chili & cheese were good. For the cost of a meal for two which was just over $25 it wasnt a really great meal.
Used to love this place but it has turned into a walking panic attack. Have been coming here for years . Food was good but waitress didn’t have any silverware at our table didn’t bring drinks until right before food. And is yelling across the restaurant we can’t have any more people in here people are going to get sick and locking the door. There was maybe then tables of 2 people in the whole restaurant.
This place has been steadily going downhill. I live in the neighborhood and used to come here at least once a week for lunch. It used to be so good. But maybe another family member took over management and just doesnt have the same abilities. But every aspect has started to suffer. From my to go orders sitting on the counter getting cold, to going in to sit and eat lunch and waiting 10 minutes for a server and we ended up leaving g before anyone even gave us water to today trying to place place a to go order and being put on hold, with an open line and listening to the employees arguing with each other over who is going to take my order. I ended up hanging up. Bad service and management that just doesnt care.
Let me start by saying the service is next to NONE! As soon as I walked in I was greeted with smiles. I placed a carry out for my mom who is in a nursing home and had some unique requests. One of them was asking them to cut up the chx so my mom didn’t have to struggle with it. They were more than happy to do this. The place was very clean and I am guessing the manager was using the downtime to tracing and teach the employees on how to go above and beyond. This is my new location as my mom LOVED the food.
My husband and I decided to grab a quick bite to eat and to our surprise we saw that this place was open for dine-in so we went in. Ive been to many Coney Islands in my lifetime never have I waited so long and TBH Ive waited half the time at a steakhouse LOL! We walked in it was close to 5 we were seated immediately. After sitting for 15 minutes finally a waitress noticed my nodding for her to come over and she gave us menus. At this time she asked what we wanted to drink and left to get our drinks. After reviewing the menu for not even 3 minutes our waitress was back asking if we were ready to order of course we werent!! After we stopped looking at the menu another 20 minutes went by we had already decided a few minutes after she walked away but I couldnt seem to get her attention away from her phone and the fact that she was sitting down in a booth eating completely ignoring us. After I managed to pull her away from her other priorities my husband and I ordered food reluctantly but we were really hungry. Might I add two other couples came in after us and finished eating before us by this time I was pretty set up almost 45 minutes have gone by still waiting for our food which had been ordered 20 minutes ago at this point. So lets see almost an hour later no food no service other than a glass of water and being seated I will never go here again I even called the manager to complain he didnt seem to care horrible service!
Servers were great, food was great. However I was greatly unimpressed by the manager on duty walking around the restaurant without her mask over Her nose OR mouth, yet she was adamant that the couple who just walked in needed theirs to walk 10 feet to their booth. Mask Nazis need to set the example.
This can be really hit or miss, depending on the server. The food is good and consistent, although it is pricey for what you get. More often than not the service is slow and lacking customer focus, such as refills for empty drinks and even bringing the check. Often feel that is an imposition on the wait staff.
Quality food, a clean restaurant and a sincerely friendly staff. The service beginis just seconds after entering and is prompt throughout by wholesome and clean cut staff. Everyone I encountered were courteous to me throughout my visit. My server politely answered a couple questions I had and after a short time returned and took my order. It wasnt long before the first course arrived and the second and third arrived just as promptly.I ordered chicken noodle soup, spinach pie, and a baby gero sandwich. Everything was hot which was a plus on this cold April day and tasted great.I know its not 5 star dining but this experience was a cut above the average diner, not to mention a fast food place so I wanted to go into some detail. I highly recommend.
My waitress was attentive and made sure she had our order right. Thank you Cathy for such wonderful service. Also a BIG shot out to the cook I think Bob because he got my eggs just right and I usually dont get scrambled because they get over cooked but he hit it right on. So yes I will travel the extra 25 miles whenever Im visiting the Detroit area just to stop at that Kerby. Satisfied picky customer.
Went there for a carry out breakfast my boyfriend and I ordered the Kerry’s grand breakfast with strawberry topping on pancakes. 1The scrambled eggs were over cooked 2 sausage links were burnt 3 the pancakes was a soggy mushy mess 4 bacon was soggy and undercooked.Asked for extra syrup got 1 extra asked for butter couldn’t use on the pancakes . Not our first bad experience but thought we’d try again. Bad mistake . Common sense would tell you put strawberry topping on the side. We won’t be back 2 strikes you out I don’t give 3
Worst experience ever. I placed a order on DoorDash n they messed up my order. I ordered A crispy chicken sandwich and cheese fries. When I got it my chicken sandwich was extra small n burnt n my fries were chilli cheese fries. When I contacted them.... the girl refused to give me another fry n the boss refused to speak on the phone. Very unprofessional!!!!!!
Will waited on me today after a long ride into town that was made longer by the rainstorms we have this evening, he was super friendly and accommodating, being sure that we had everything we needed without knowing how exhausted I truly was, it made all the difference in my day and as someone who has worked in food service myself for 15+ years it was very welcoming to have such amazing customer service! Thank you so much!
Seriously don’t think I will ever go back to this location. Food was hot but not very tasty. Service was rude and very abrupt. No personality whatsoever and the new manager never sanitized his hands or washed them after dealing with paperwork. I don’t think I’ll order from there again. Very poor all around
Made the mistake of coming here later at night when no one was there. Waited about 2 minutes to be seated. Served cold food. The staff seemed as if theyd rather chit chat and be on their phones than to serve the 2 groups of people in the entire restaurant. Oh, and I also waited 3 minutes to pay the bill. I dont recommend coming here.
Rudest wait staff and managers I have ever encountered. They tried to serve me a nasty almost raw frozen .50 cent burger patty. When I pointed it out to them both the waiter and manager acted like it was my fault they didnt cook the burger. Im sorry but Ill pass on getting a food related illness from eating a undercooked burger because they are concerned about losing .50 cents on their frozen burger patty. After they brought the next extremely overcooked burger they kept making rude comments about sending their raw rotten burger back. Dont come here... Obviously the owner doesnt care about what happens here. I will be contacting the main office about this franchise...
Been coming here for years and finally realized how infrequently the place is cleaned. The seating area is absolutely disgusting and makes me wonder how they pass inspection. From the grease stained walls with peeling wallpaper, bits of food smeared on the picture frames hanging on the wall, to cobwebs and dust hanging from the light fixtures. Commonplace to see tables wiped down with dry rags, knocking whatever food bits were on the table to the unwashed floors. If the dining area is this bad, I wonder how bad the kitchen is.
The Absolute worst! I call in a phone order at noon, No one answers. I walk in at 5 after noon, no ones there. I finally yell in the back and the cook has the audacity to say didnt you read the sign?! We dont open until noon! Not realizing it was Afternoon!!! I left and wont be back. Treating regular customers this way is how you lose business.
Ive eaten here a few times and have never been all that impressed with the experience. There is something strange tasting about their hash browns, as though they are using some cheap, preshredded potatoes or some sort of fake butter replacement. I cant quite put my finger on what the cause of this is but, having been there at least 3 times now, the awful taste of the hash browns is enough to keep me from going back! Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for breakfast!
Looking at the past bad reviews i have to think that they either had a fluke experience or this Kerbys has improved since then. All my experiences here (and i have a few) have been great. the staff is fast, the food has always been nice and hot. The manager is also quite kind. If you like Coneys this is a good place to go, also, on tuesdays they have a good deal of 2 for 3 bucks.
I went to this restaurant on a Sunday morning with my family and we walked in before a white lady and her family. I was very disturbed that she was served before me and my family. The waitress saw that we came in before her and her family and continued to her while we were still waiting on are food to be brought to us. This restaurant is horrible regarding customer service.
Every time we go they are trying to close 1 to 1 1/2 hours before their posted closing time. They will tell you they cant make a food item because the grill is closed or no one is 18(sagacki). We felt rushed to eat tonight because the waitress stood by our table multiple times. There is always something flying around. The bathrooms are clean. Food is just so so. Tonight will be the last time we go there.
During our visit to this Coney Island, we ordered quite a bit of food. One of the items was onion rings, which cost $3.00. When the order came to our table, there were literally 7-8 small onion rings on the small bowl, for $3.00! We advised the waitress, only expecting to get a few more onion rings. She talked to the supervisor LIZA, who came over to tell us that they weigh the onion rings and basically that’s it. We were shocked. She didn’t even offer an apology or a smile. She stated the owner is one of the cooks and they can’t do anything and that she gets the same amount when she orders. We Love Coney Island (our favorite is Berkeley Coney Island, great food & AWESOME customer service) but we have never experienced a Coney Island like this Kerbys that didn’t put they’re customers first. This incident may seem small to some, but when we’re spending $30 (for 2 people) for Coney Island food, we expect to at least get our moneys worth. Our waitress Carrie was really nice, however the behavior and lack of customer service skills from LIZA has caused them to lose customers. We won’t be back!
The staff is rude. I use to order from here, I would always add a rice pudding. This time around it was watery and very runny. When saying something about it, it was rudely explained that they dont make this in house and its sent to them this way. Im sure it did, and I am also pretty sure that if they pulled the container back out, stirred the rice pudding around a bit I wouldnt be stuck with all the running stuff up on top and actually get some rice. But thats probably to hard of a concept for some to understand.Anyways, you lost a customer over some pudding that costs kerbys like 15 cents. Good job.
The prices for my meal was $2.99 for what they called a smootie which was really a slushie, and way too sweet to drink.I tossed that out. I know the difference between both a smoothie has REAL fresh fruit in it, it wasnt. The burger had a cheap bun on it and kept falling apart and cost $4.99. So they are trying to sell you cheap food for a way too high of cost. I was only going to give them a 1/2 star but, they dont let you. Even that is generous.Save yourself time and money.Burger King or McDonalds is even better than them.
Weird experience the waitress walked out after she took my order and it took them probably about 10 minutes to realize that she had done that and they didnt get my order after they figured it out the waitress that helped me was good but apparently there had been a big fight amongst the employees and the one waitress just walk up
The food was raw chicken strips disgusting service was really bad nobody was watching the new server they didnt make it right when I ask for my check to try to make me a milkshake because its what I thought I wanted very disappointing I will never come back there and I will tell everybody not to come

2022-07-16Horrible. Could not order online. Dry and broken bun. Hardly any mustard. Koney fries has hardly any chili on them. Hotdogs are OLD.

2022-07-04Nobody was in the restaurant. Staff was very friendly. I didnt like that the owner ( Im guessing) was on his phone the whole time we were there from walking in... until checking out. He went to ring us up. Set his phone down and picked it right back up. It felt awkward and rude. However food was good and Kerby melt combos were made perfect.

2022-06-26I would love to eat at Kerbys on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I cannot because their menu does not include hearty vegan options.Vegan protein dishes would be appreciated by customers who are concerned about animal welfare, who have dietary restrictions, and/or who need to reduce their cholesterol intake.Plant-based hot dogs and chili exist and would make vegan Coney dogs an easy addition to the menu. Vegan chili fries would also be a great Detroit treat!

2022-06-20They are always short staffed. The employees are all super nice, and really working hard, but sometimes it is hard to get the attention of someone if you need anything. We were unable to flag someone for refills on our drinks this time.Food is good for a Coney. I just wish they would hire more / pay employees more.

2022-07-29First of all would not have given this place any stars. Came for breakfast early evening. Prompt service. Made fresh coffee and took order. Plates came, looked very good. French toast had an odd flavor. Eggs and bacon, good. Ate part of 1 out of 2 eggs. Ate 1 out of 2 bacon. 1/2 out of 2 sausage sausage was hard in texture. Supervisor said I could reorder, but have to pay for what I ate. Wanted hash brown instead of french toast. Any other restaurant would have made everything, over and fresh. He asked if cold ehen received...I said no. But, standing there quibbling, now all was cold. I would like to enjoy whole meal hot. He did everything, but pluck the chix to work out monetary cost for them.I walked out. I said, you lost money on your food and just gave me complimentary coffee. Left.Didnt pay attention much coming in. Sign said they were open till 8:30. Inside, at end he was locking doors at 8:10. Sup said, store mngr and leasing company said out at 8.First time at a Kerbys in yrs., not many.Do not come here. *********

2020-01-13Our first question to the server after we sat down was, “How is the coffee?” We were told that the restaurant had good coffee. That was not our opinion. The coffee was terrible. We ordered a breakfast special for $4.99 and an English muffin with two coffees. The total came to $11.49. The breakfast was good but nothing to write home about. The best part of the service was Francis and the only reason Kerry’s Coney Island got a 3. I would have given the restaurant a 2. Francis made the meal and made it entertaining. I don’t think we will be returning to the restaurant.
