Absolute horrible business. The epitome of a company monopolizing and preying on a community. They hike prices tremendously, charge prep fees and send customers out with bad products, are ridiculous with turn around time etc. I understand business but this business should be shut down. If anyone has the money to enter this market your competition is trash. Even the employees know they trash. It’s absolutely insane. Check the records I’ve spent $5k with them in 2 months. 2021 bikes are not adequately put together or properly connected and they just don’t care. This is a dangerous business to do this type of business with. No wonder the Internet is taking over. You can get these same parts online for a fraction of the cost and even overnight. I will never spend my money with a company who doesn’t respect it again.
Bought a little dirt bike. Sales guy was great. Got a few dollars off. They had it prepped in 45 minutes. There were a couple little glitches that should have been taken care of during prep. Nothing serious. I’ve had it 3 months no problems. These bikes need to be maintained and gone through frequently. Tighten all the bolts regularly, change oil. Chinese models are known for weak substandard steel. It is very easy to strip threads.
Any other day I would’ve given this store 5 stars because I like the place and the guys that work there! But today was something different. I enter the establishment and there is a young girl behind the counter that didn’t greet me. No words to me whatsoever! I proceed to look at 2 particular items! I FaceTime my husband to assure I was getting the right items! It wasn’t until one of the older guys (employee) walked back in before I was greeted! (No fault of his) I find my items and get in line behind one customer who was being serviced already. She sat there the whole time at THE REGISTER as if I wasn’t in the store. The older guy had to say, “ She can take you right here!” While she’s ringing up my 2 items, her whole mood/ attitude was just UGLY. Different over a bag for my items, I had to ask! Long story short, she needs a class in Customer Service 101!!!
They had the Max Torque clutch I needed at a pretty competitive rate. It was $3 cheaper than online but I was also able to get it now lol. I was paying $25 for these when I was a kid... so $35 was a decent price. Put it like this... I didnt get a smacking deal but it was definitely worth it guarenteed.
Had them order me a 11 pole stator they ended up charging me upfront and ordered an 8 pole stator, also called to have a tire thrown on a rim they say yeah. Take it to em they say pick it up tomorrow. Cool. Next day I get there say they couldnt do it and give me attitude. Ended up doing it myself
Shady people. I sent them so many people I know to get a scooter pit bike 4 wheeler or go kart. And all of the folks I sent there have the same complaint. The bikes are out together poorly. And some of them have problems as soon as they are sold. But the shady business from this store is 4 people including me have seen them purposely loosen or take apart or actually break things on the bikes to get people to come back. The pit bike I bought I brought back the very next day because the rim had a dent the all the bolts where loose but the long screw that holds the motor in place was broke. Sad part is. It looked like it was sawed off. If you buy from this store inspect whatever you buy from them
I really wanted this facility to live up to how my referrals talked it up, but unfortunately they did not. Firstly, I showed up with my mini bike (3/6/21) to get work done to it and the guy at the counter typed in their computer the necessary notes and told me someone was going to call me I’m a few days. A full week and a half goes by with zero calls or voicemails. I waited one more day until I was curious enough to call this facility and ask what was up (3/16/21) and I spoke to a girl and she told me my bike was ready to be picked up. There was zero phone calls made to me about the work that had to get done so I could properly set aside some money because I didn’t know if it was a $100 job or a $300 job. I show up and I paid off my balance I owed and went home and checked the paper work they gave me and it showed my bike was finished on 3/12/21, which means to tell me they had my bike finished on a Friday and gave me ZERO courtesy calls telling me it was done. A couple weeks go by and my chain has fallen off a accumulative 5+ times so I go ahead and call this facility and a gentleman picked up the phone and I politely stated my name and the work I had done and the issues I was facing and mid conversation he rudely told me to wait one minute and put me on hold. He picks up the phone again and asked me something about my chain tensioner and if I had tightened it and I responded with “I believe so yes” and he replies rudely with “oh you believe you did okay” and mind you I have zero experience with mini bikes so I’m asking for help and he asks the question again with a raised voice “have you tightened the chain and the tensioner” and I stood in silence because I didn’t know how to respond and very angrily he continued with “you know what just drop it off here and that’s where we will start with this.” All I wanted was proper phone calls and great customer service for a returning customer but all I got was zero phone calls and rude employees with a inexperienced customer.
They are okay in terms of knowledge but I shouldnt be able to tell that someone is irritated simply by talking to them. It seems like everytime I come in there I experience someone with an attitude or who really doesnt like to answer the simplest of questions without being smart or sarcastic. My last visit made me not want to come back here period.
This place was very busy, helpful, very information about the equipment and they also put your equipment together or you can buy it already together I bought a dirt bike for my grandbaby and maybe Ill send you a picture of it later I didnt see a bathroom and it is wheelchair accessible but parking lot has a lot of rocks in it
The young counter associates not very friendly the girl didnt even look up at me as she asked questions. Dropped off snow blower 4 days later they called with findings I think aggressive in status of various repairs needed. I just did a bit of my own diagnosis of unit and had unit repaired elsewhere last year but wasnt happy with was work on engine. The repairs were completed to what I approved. Went to pickup young counter guy on phone helping another customer. Stood at the counter for my turn after 10 min or so a voice says any questions. Didnt even know she was behind the counter the whole time. I said I didnt see her and she abruptly said well I have been here the whole time. WTH Again unimpressed with the counter performance. The repair gentleman was through though started the unit on one pull honestly it never did so I am impressed so far with the service performed. The price was reasonable for a new arborator and defective unit was attached to handle. IMPRESSIVE SERVICE
Never in my entire life have I ever had anything repaired where the shop didnt call me with a diagnosis of what needs to be repaired BEFORE the work is done. After dropping my snowblower off at Howards, 10 days had past so I called. Oh, the repairs done..., I was told. When I got there, I asked about not being called. The associate apologized and basically said something about it being his fault. However, as I was waiting for them to bring my snowblower out, I learned from 2 other customers that they were not called either! So its safe to say that this is their operational procedure. Dont call the customer, make the repair, and thereby securing the balance of the repair cost with extras thrown in. Besides replacing the carburetor, they performed a tune-up and oil change with oil disposal. If they had called, I would have declined the tune-up since I did 1/3 of that work by changing the spark plug myself. The oil disposal charge is ridiculous because disposal is free at the local auto parts store. Although my snowblower starts, the motor is chugging so I cant even say that they did a good job.
Took my snowblower here for the advertised Carburetor Tuneup in Warren weekly for $35. Few weeks later they told me the carburetor needed replacing, but that it is discontinued and no longer available. I picked my snowblower up and once home. Within 10 minutes I Found online a replacement carburetor for $17!!! Took me an hour n half to replace the carburetor and used the snowblower this past winter. Not sure what is going on here honestly. One part of me wondered, if people leave there snowblower here after being told similar expert repair information?? My snowblower was at least 30 years old. But very disappointed and really questioning this entire procedure. Honestly i felt totally scammed. It might be completely on the level. Good luck everyone
Very very bad customer service. Spent $1600 on a 4-Wheeler that was built BY THEM only for it to start falling apart. The screws came loose and the panel heated up on the exhaust pipe causing it to melt. The battery was faulty and wouldn’t stay charged and they didn’t want to fix the issue. Very very poor people skills
Long time customer of Howards.... I have purchased a mower, snow blower and a Generac power washer. I believe in small, local business. Brand new power washer 10 months old 10-12hours on the machine - property stored. Machine started acting up with the electric start and there was small leaking from pump. Drop it off April 20th at Howards May 20th started calling each morning staying on hold for 4-6 hours a day (not joking). Finally I went up there on June 5th taking the morning off of work. They state the machine wasnt property storage for winter(hilarious) and needs tune up maybe a new battery, and that it wasnt worth fixing and that it wont fall under warranty. As I followed them to a outside storage yard to get my brand new powerwasher that has been sitting outside since April 20th that is completely rusted.(properly stored?) I have many tools,I pay a lot of money for and go to great means to keep in excellent condition. When I challenged them if it was covered under warranty or not they told me they would have a manager call me it is now June 11th. Still no call from Jeff the manager that Ive purchased over $1,000 worth of equipment from over the last 7 years customer service customer service customer service. Do yourself a favor do not do not take any of your equipment there to get fixed or any of your business, money, or time to Howards. Should be called mini bike Howards or mopeds from China Howards. **Update** took the unit to atomic wash in Farmington hills and after their evaluation they found that the circuit board was failing for electric start causing the unit to start up on its own therefore it rrunninh without water over heating seals causing pump to leak, they submitted the paperwork to Generac -approved and my unit was fixed within a couple weeks later. - Thanks for nothing Howards
Howard’s!!!!! I have a commercial mower with a Suzuki engine. I had to tell another mechanics at a different repair facility to button it up because they weren’t sure they could fix it. In a day where everything and everyone is going to big box retailers we need to frequent places like Howard’s. They have knowledge and retail lawn and garden equipment here new and used. For my repair they were more than knowledgeable and helped me out for sure. I highly recommend Howard’s.
If it was possible to give no stars that would have been my rating. My Grandfather introduced me to this shop after bringing his equipment here for years. Needless to say from the service I received I would have never been such a loyal consumer as he was. My cousin and I run a very small lawn service in the urban Detroit area on the weekends while we are visiting from our perspective colleges University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University. As you can tell that doesnt leave us much time to stay on a companys head while they work on our equipment which is exactly what may need to be done when working with this company. We brought them our equipment last spring around the beginning of March to have everything tuned up and by the time we received the equipment back which happened to be well over a month of them having our equipment, it came back worst than when we dropped it off. The mower was rusted especially around the nails where the handle bar was being held in place which later caused me to lose a set of two screws doing the summer. The month it took them to do simple tune-ups set us back with some of our customers and we had a new backpack blower that they could not fix and the only problem it had was a hard start up. Then if this wasnt bad enough during the summer my lawn mower took a huge blow when I ran over a tree stomp that caused my mower to start vibrating dangerously. When I took it in to have it fixed they had the audacity to say they fixed it by replacing a wire so we tested the mower in their yard and of course it was still shaking so they said they thought we didnt want to fix that because we would need a whole new engine. I firmly believe a new engine may have been needed but instead of telling me that they changed wires for 100 dollars and thought that the shaking would be okay even though when I came to them thats the problem I said I wanted fixed. They were also very rude with my Grandfather at times and never showed me the degree of professionalism in which I like to conduct business. It also took them to around July for them to get a part for our weed-wacker. I think this business is more concerned with profiting from the sale of bikes and motor repairs then lawn equipment anymore which isnt a bad thing if they just tell you that and stop damaging customers lawn equipment. I hope that this review helps you if you are thinking of a place to take your lawn equipment.
As a woman, entering a power machine shop can be very intimidating. This place manages to address every stereotype that a woman may anticipate. Rude, condescending, discriminatory pricing (prices higher for me than my husband). So $450 later, we got our lawn mower back. :( You would be better off going to a backyard mechanic, better customer service and more trust worthy. I will be taking all future repairs to guys that work out of their garage.
Save your money, I bought a pink moped and since day 1 the stupid thing has had problems running from cold start and had issues turning over. I brought it in to have them fix it under the 90days warranty 3 times and still have issues with it. I decided Im fed up with the scooter and wanted to return it. The man told me that because I registered it under myself that I could not return it. How the hell do you know if something is working if you dont register it so you can drive it on the streets? I contacted BBB, so they can get me my 953.99 and the almost $200 I spent in Uber just so I could get too and from work! Waste of money to come to this place, they dont have a clue what they are doing! I have it in the shop for the 4th attempt to fix it and I got to work, then it was dead that morning that I tried to leave. I had to get a co-workers help to haul it back to these idiots for the 5th time and I just called today(a week later) and they have not even looked at it! They will be hearing from the BBB and State of Michigan about the Lemon Law! I should get pick of the lot, since this thing has been in 5 times and it still doesnt work(thats the Lemon Law!). They clearly dont stand behind their products! I contacted the BBB today so its only a matter of time before they have to pay back every penny to me, including the cost of Uber, hope it was worth it for them to try and scam me. Now the world will know about the Lemon Law with this place!
Wanted my snowblower maintenanced and bent auger replaced or bent back to working condition with new bottom skids....3 days later go back to pick it up with auger bent worse and more out of shape with no bottom skids they did absolutely nothing to it for 50 dollars looked online and not only did I find a new auger that would fit it the bottom skids where 10-20 dollars the cheap skates could have least put that on. Thanks for nothing and for wasting my time.

2022-05-16I had to take in my brand new lawnmower to get it looked at since it wouldn’t start. Jeff the owner took a quick look at it and was able to start it right up. He saved me a lot of time, money, and headaches. He didn’t even charge me to take a quick look at it. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone and will go back for any future needs. Thanks Jeff!

2022-05-09My husband visited for the first time on Wednesday, all were helpful and sold him what was said to be the needed parts (belt and other parts just under $200). Upon getting home and trying to install the belt, my husband sees that the belt is way too short (4 inches) he returns to Howards in wanting to exchange the belt that does not fit. They refuse to exchange the belt because they said it was already on the machine running and had a small mark on the belt, now mind you if the belt could fit on the machine and run why would we need to come back for 4 inches bigger, it could not possibly allow the machine to run with a belt thats four inches too small it does not fit! Not also to mention the kid just grabbed the belt from the shelf not looking at it to even see if perhaps the belt had the white mark on it to begin with and sold it to him that way but furthermore they refuse to exchange the belt and was persistent to say the belt was ran on a machine but obviously the motor could not possibly run if the belt is 4 inches too small, they would not do anything about it and said they would sell my husband another belt for an additional $37 I find this totally absurd and appalling how Howards wants to treat a paying customer, people always begging to help the small businesses, with a business like this we definitely will not be back! I hope that $37 of a simple exchange of a belt was worth my poor review. Just be cautious and buy what you need because they may not exchange it for you as well! But also to add my husband was able to find what he needed at a business about a mile away (Bids) with no problems with exchanging to find what you need.

2020-12-15The management and staff always go above and beyond for every customer! They always treat me like part of the family. Its individually owned little Mom & Pop shops like this, that made America Great! And customer service, its a lost art now a days! But, Howards service / sales / staff always make you feel welcome. Honestly giving of themselves for their customers. Im proud to have been a loyal customer for years. And smaller stores like Howards give American people what America needs most, especially now... local jobs, spend you money in the communities where you live & work. You deserve great customer service, not like you get at those big box stores. (You can never get anyone to help you.)Trickle down economics! And when you find a shop, where there honest, helpful, experienced and know what their doing, support them!Howards cares about their customers, and we as customers should care about Howards and support each other during these tough times.Id just like to send everyone at Howards a Great Big Thank you!

2022-06-29The prices are expensive. I paid $15 for a gas cap, and they refuse to work on my scooter. They said it did not meet there criteria for scooters.
